Review Rubiki - Ringwood

Christopher O'Donnell
Big and delicious servings, especially bacon! Treat yourself with sourdough toast, scrambled eggs and bacon with a mocha. Really friendly staff with a hands on operator. A must visit if in the area!

What a coffee. I didn't get any food on this occasion, but the food being served to other customers looks, fresh, appetising and plentiful. I will be heading there for brunch sometime soon.

Food was terrible especially the hollandaise sauce. We couldn’t eat our meals or drink the coffees. Also way overpriced the only good thing was the friendly female staff member.

Was searching for a local cafe and decided on Rubiki based on reviews. The foods and warm beverages were really great. It was nice to sit outside in the sun. I was surprised at how relatively quiet the area was, especially around school time. Will definitely be back.

Had Mother's Day lunch with the family. Great food, Great service, excellent communication in regards to last min booking. Highly recommend. Thank you for a great experience. Will definitely be back to take advantage of such a great local eatery.

I don't like to complain, but today we came in for breakfast and never received our drinks. We asked for them upon arrival, when we ordered our food, as we were eating, after we were eating and as we were leaving. A complimentary drink to take away would have been nice, but it wasn't offered. We ended up buying one around the corner.

Delicious coffee, amazing food, always here with my friends. Cannot recommend a place enough :)

This place is the bloody tits, haven't been in for a while but I bloody miss it - mostly the staff and the coffee, and when they have vegan snacks, actually everything. Love you guys.
Steve Burden
Fantastic coffee - great food - great service from lovely people - I bloody love this place and come here as often as I'm able. Thanks for consistent and exceptional experiences guys. Much appreciated.

My go to place when I need strong coffee and a place to chill. Mind you their version of a Rueben is something else!

Great foods with great service. Highly recommended (love the chilli infused scrambled with herb garlic bread ). Will be back for sure

I walk up to rubiki nearly every week with my baby and dog and the last few times have been disappointed but yesterday was the worst. I waited 15-20 mins before I was served ( the girl was very nice and apologetic) and then waited a further 25 mins for my zuchinni fritters which were still cold and raw on the inside, inedible. I told the girl I was in a hurry as I had to get home to feed the baby so I didn’t have time to wait around to tell them and I’d already paid. I normally don’t complain but the time before that I had hot water spilt on my lap because the girl wasn’t watching when she put the tea pot down. I have a baby that is usually sitting on my lap which could of scolded her. This place was great when it first opened but it’s really gone downhill. I’ve since edited my review rating to a 5 Star since this issues above the service has been amazing!

The staff were amazing. They constantly refilled our water which was great. They were also very friendly. Our drinks were scrumptious. I love ordering something and it comes out above expectations. Great service, great drinks. I can't wait to try their food.

Sriracha hollandaise, need I say more? Thank goodness there's finally somewhere worth ordering breaky in Ringwood North.

Regular visitor to this fine establishment. Great coffee and very friendly staff! Highly recommend!

My favourite local ... best poached eggs in melb. Thanks guys for your prompt service and welcoming ways!
TimInMelb
Brought my own small mug for a take away coffee..charged for large coffee instead of a small, plus cup wasn't even filled! (See picture of cup). So much for me being environmentally friendly and looking out for local business. I'll find a different local business to support thanks!
Must be they're way of saying Happy Fathers Day (2020).

Had an awesome almond flat white today. Good size, tasted bang on, the cup was extremely comfortable to hold and great to drink out of.

A nice, family friendly cafe in Ringwood, Rubiki is a busy cafe in a small shopping area. It has a great corner location, and has a comfortable atmosphere. The staff were pleasant even though it was quite busy when we visited.

We only stopped for coffee and cake, and both were delicious. There was a good selection in the display cabinet, but the menu also looked pretty good too. It seemed to be quite popular so I'm assuming that the food must be pretty good too. For that reason, we will be back to try something more substantial for brunch.
Thought For Food
I used to go here a few years ago, found that the menu lacked anything that appealed to me and the serving sizes were small for the price. Fast forward to last week, it appears there is new management and with that comes an exciting new menu. Really enjoyed the vegie bowl with black rice (forgot what it's called) and the portion was more than generous. Would have got 5 stars had the service been more friendly and welcoming. Will be back.

Just had a sensational breaky at Rubiki. Eggs on pulled pork and house made hash browns with aioli and pickled cabbage equals delishious! They have a great milk selection also including coconut and macadamia. Highly recommend.

Stopped in here for a quick lunch earlier this week after going shopping with my Mum for Christmas lunch at the nearby IGA.

I ordered the eggs benedict with pulled pork gluten free and my Mum order the smashed avocado. The sauce was perfect, hash browns nice and crispy and the pulled pork was excellent.

Both dishes were lovely and we've been raving about them ever since. My Mum was inspired to base Christmas breakfast off the smashed avocado it was that good. Coffee was nice as well. Will definitely be coming back here!

Friendly, helpful staff, unique and tasty dishes and calm ambiance. In particular the coffee, shakshuka and Korean chicken waffles are items I want to keep coming back for.

Took Mum for breakfast here today and the food was wonderful, I had scrambled eggs with bacon and goats cheese and Mum had the big breakfast, my eggs were creamy and weren’t dry which a lot of scrambled eggs can be, goats cheese was so good! all staff are very friendly and welcoming, also attentive too. Easy to park and access cafe the cafe, would highly recommend if in the area (also went on weekend at lunchtime and no wait so that was also a plus)

Loved going here for breakfast when I used to work in the area.
The eggs Benedict is always a winner and the coffee is always on point.
The staff and owner always have a smile and that’s the customer service you want at every place you eat at.

In a previous review, I might have understated how good the eggs are here.

They are indescribably good.

No. They're actually better than that.
> Forest Mushrooms- enoki, portabella, field & oyster mushrooms sautéed with fresh thyme on seeded sourdough with a sweetened red wine reduction monte au buere AND Smashed Thai Pumpkin with goats cheese & sage on dark rye AND Berry Hotcake with mixed berry compote & vanilla mascarpone <

Another location where I wouldn’t normally think of to try for breakfast is Ringwood North. There aren’t too many café options in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, so to find a decent one that stands out is a real bonus. Hidden behind a small group of shops, Rubiki is a welcoming café with friendly staff and a really nice spacious atmosphere. They focus on high quality, fresh, and organic goods. Everything is made with love and is presented beautifully. The menu is quite extensive and there is a large focus on both breakfast and lunch options.

Mushrooms on toast has always been a favourite of mine. Usually there is not much flavour, or the flavour comes from the toast. This mushroom dish, however, was an overall win for me. The mushrooms were really soft and cooked to perfection. They were also quite sweet and had a really strong and delicious flavour. The red wine reduction added almost a sweet smoky flavour to the meal, which made the mushrooms pop even more. The quantity of mushrooms on the dish was crazy but I felt like I was in heaven; you can never have too many mushrooms on a plate! Being such a large dish, it was quite filling but very satisfying. I would definitely recommend trying this!!

So we have seen the classic smashed pumpkin, but Rubiki have decided to put their own twist on it. With a Thai flavour infused in the pumpkin, it is a bit sweet and spicy, which intrigues you as to what you are actually eating, but the overall sense is it tastes like a genuine Thai meal. The pumpkin chunks are a perfect size for each bite, or you could even spread it over the lightly toasted rye bread. Rye was a good choice to combine with the pumpkin as the flavour combination balances each other out. The sage was a great touch to add a complementing flavour, whilst also enhancing the presentation. The feta on this dish, OMG, as soon as I tasted it I felt like I was in heaven! The feta is super creamy and just melts as soon as it touches your tongue. This kind of feta was perfect to balance out the spices of the pumpkin. With the lime squeezed over the top, the dish was complete.

As the hotcake arrived at our table, I could already smell the sweet and creamy aromas that were about to melt in our mouths. The hotcake is a perfect size compared to most others around Melbourne which have become excessive just for the presentation. The plating of this dish was actually quite cute, with the jam and cream in a small jar, next to the maple syrup in a pourer. The hotcake itself was really fluffy and had a strong buttery flavour. The berries added a nice sweet/sour flavour to each bite, which I really enjoyed. The syrup poured over the top added a lot of moisture to the hotcake, which soaked in really nicely to enhance the sweet flavours. The cream and jam combination was such a cute idea. Spread across the hotcake, the fluffiness of the cream complemented the cake really well, while making each bite more filling. Usually sweet dishes are overdone, but this meal was probably my favourite out of the three we tried! Everything about it was amazing, so if you’re craving something sweet and hearty, I would highly suggest trying this meal.

The vibes I got from this café were really positive, from the moment we walked through the door to the moment we left. We really enjoyed our feast and would definitely come back if we are in the area.

The breakfastpiggy team
Piggies out, Oink oink 🐷🐷

Great Cafe, great owners! Went with the good old Eggs Bene which was hearty and flavoursome. The coffee was also really good! going back here for sure!

Finished my eye test next door and walked in for lunch. It’s busy but not overly busy on Saturday late morning. Super friendly service and VERY delicious and pretty brunch!!! My hashbrown tastes so great and special as it has stuffing inside! My hubby and I couldn’t stop praising this place while eating our food lol!
The Critical Barista
Honestly cannot fault the experience me and my fam had at Rubiki. Had sussed it out prior and came in with high expectations- this is usually a recipe for letdown however Rubiki delivered. The menu was incredibly interesting with ingredients I rarely see in suburban cafes. I ordered the Sticky Benedict; although very different to a regular eggs Benedict; damn it WORKED! The perfect balance of sweet, salty and savoury. The pineapple salsa- or was it the sweet potato?? Gave it this kickass sweetness which unexpectedly accentuated exisiting flavours. The whole dish was faultless. Iced latte was also spot on. Family highly enjoyed their meals also. We will definitely be returning 💯
Eatmeef
Sticky Benedict was good. Pork was crispy and salty 😋. Forgot there was sriracha in the hollandaise, and pineapple relish was meh. Hollandaise didn't wreck me like it usually does. Was more full than I thought I would be. Wait staff were nice and attentive.

Great food, I had Sticky Benedict and it is lovely. Coffee by Padre, but I am not a big fan of it.
Good service and baby friendly.
Will come back next time.
The Fo0die
Fo0die dined as a guest of Rubiki and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.

Located within the North Ringwood shopping village, a large 2P car parking is conveniently available. Arriving at 11:30am on a Saturday, the cafe was bustling with people dining and with people ordering coffee to go.

>> Interior
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The interior has an industrial feel with an exposed grey roofing and dangling cable lights off the ceiling. This is paired with wooden tables and chairs. A counter and kitchen is to the back of the restaurant with a nice rectangular shaped seating area with a nice spacious layout that welcomes prams and trolleys.
At the front of the restaurant are small tables, some undercover while others are out in the open and are very popular during the warmer weather. Inside, a mix of varying table sizes and a large communal table at the centre is available.
At the front of the kitchen window is a small section for 'retail to home' goods that the cafe sells. From the bread that is used at the cafe to the coffee to the matcha powder to the jams etc.
>> Food/Drinks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The spring menu has an interesting mix of influences from all over the world which we've been told is seasonal and changes every couple of months. The mix of influences incorporates the chefs experience from fine dining and the dinner trade; bringing in that dimension into breakfast/brunch and lunch menu which equates to 'not your average brunch'. But don't worry, the menu also contains the classics to cater for those who enjoy a good old eggs benedict.

The mocha at the cafe is a little more on the chocolate side with an after aroma of the coffee coming through (they use padre coffee). While the matcha latte had a a good flavour of matcha and was not overly sweet (they use matcha maiden).

All the dishes we tried on the day was executed very well with flavours that played on the different taste senses which complemented well with the main. Our favourite dish was no doubt the sticky pork. A stand out and a welcomed take on the classic eggs benedict which was perfectly paired with a pineapple salsa which helped to lighten the sticky pork belly.

The lamb ribs was not super chilli and with the skin packed with flavour, the fatty lamb ribs, a little too fatty for our preference but that aside, went very well with the pear salad which brought freshness to the meaty dish. While the boudin noir, was more of a dense hash brown which had a small pork blood sausage at the centre and again paired really well with the piccalilli, sweetness of the fresh pear and sourness of the cherry gel which helped to cut through the dense hash brown.

Who would have thought a cafe like this existed that far east in the suburbs (they're usually all in the north!), Rubiki brings a bit of a twist to the cafe norm with well executed and complementing dishes where I can definitely see the chefs experience in fine dining and dinner trade peeking through.

>> Dishes that make up this review
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Szechuan lamb ribs with black sesame and pear slaw and homemade sweet chilli ($22)
Sticky benedict; sticky pork belly, hash brown, sweet potato puree, pineapple salsa, poached eggs and sriracha hollandaise ($19)
Pommes hash et boudin noir; potato hash brown stuffed with pork and oat sausage accompanied by maple glazed bacon shards, fresh pear, piccalilli and sour cherry gel ($19)
Mocha ($6.50)
Matcha latte ($4.50)
Follow me on Instagram for more photos: @fo0die (with a zero)
DO: The baked eggs, Cuban sanga and chips.
DON'T: Forget to order the coffees from the very friendly baristas and staff.
TIP: Don't sit outside. Bees!!!!! Only sometimes :) But seriously, this place is pretty good and a great addition to the area. Yummy food with a very friendly owner. Repeat customer here
A favourite local cafe of mine. Fantastic service along with fabulous food and coffee. The spanish eggs are to die for. Coffee is made perfectly and you will definitely require a second cup!
And all the staff are wonderful.
The worst scrambled eggs I have ever been served. The coffee was passable. Staff were very friendly and apologetic about the eggs. BUT our meal was.constantly interrupted by the flies. Yes flies. And we were seated inside.
Staff attentive, breakfasts delicious, burgers are ok but not amazing, cakes always a winner and coffee is always well done a great eastern suburbs fixture
Rubiki is a nice little spot, nestled in a bit of an unassuming location. It's also away from the busy Ringwood area. The customer service is the biggest thing that stands out here to me. The wait staff are very friendly, and the owner even more so. He has an excitable and upbeat demeanour. The kitchen staff were also very nice, as they let us choose from the breakfast menu even thought it was almost 3pm (breakfast was meant to end at 2). The food in terms of quality was mostly great. We ordered the breakfast board for $38 which serves two people, and comes with a serve of the breakfast bruschetta, Spanish baked eggs (comes with two pieces of toasted focaccia), and the honey and rosewater tapioca. I don't normally enjoy Spanish baked eggs because in my experience it's very rich and comes with a lot of tanginess for my liking. This one was milder on the tang, still rich but sweeter so to speak. Just well-rounded and very tasty. The bruschetta was very nice. Great bread and top ingredients. On its own it's ridiculously expensive though, $17! But, this also means that the breakfast board isn't quite worth it, because it just isn't quite enough in quantity. The bruschetta goes down pretty damn quick and you only get two pieces for $17. Don't think I've seen bruschetta this expensive, even with buffalo mozzarella. We were still hungry after the savoury dishes and hoped that the tapioca would complete our stomachs. Sadly, it was terrible. It had been kept refrigerated for an unknown amount of time after being made, so the tapioca (sago balls) mixture layer was really gluggy. There was something else off about the texture too (as if this wasn't enough). The rosewater flavour came out a bit funny, and the raspberry coulis lacked any power against the rest. If there was more, the dish would have been a bit more tolerable. It was a shame to end what started as a terrific experience with an unsatisfied palate and stomach. It may sound like I'm being generous in giving a 3.5, but these guys deserve it. What's good is indeed very enjoyable, and I haven't experienced customer service this good in a while. There's a few things to reconsider about the menu, but I would definitely return.
Has great potential, agreed it was busy but... coffee took 25 minutes and the baby chino took 30 with the little one asking for marsh mellow after we had been there for 5 minutes, the remaining 25 was hard to manage.. nothing like peppa pig. Eaten there other times its been better.. Spanish eggs was very shallow with food, and with just the 1 egg? Left in a huff.
A wonderful little find in North Ringwood. This cafe has fantastic service along with fabulous food and coffee. We ordered the Spanish Baked eggs and the Baked Peach with almond mascarpone. The baked eggs were very yummy and were full of flavours. It was great dipping the focaccia into it. The baked Peach was a wonderful dish to eat, such a light and delightful breakfast. Coffee is made perfectly and you will definitely require a second cup!
We have visited Rubiki a few times and always enjoy going back.
Great coffee. Perfect temperature and good flavour. Had a carrot an cranberry cake that was cooked into a little loaf. Very tasty and moist.
Great food and appealing menu. Friendly staff with good quick service. Lovely spot for a Sunday morning breakfast. I haven't been here for lunch yet but breakfast was great.
Mia
Our family local favourite. Friendly staff, warm and comfortable atmosphere. Delectable breakfasts and take away sweets with a good variety. Have tried most items on the menu and found little fault. The only complaint one of us has it that their latte isn't hot enough. Other than that an absolute gem in the eastern suburbs.
I'd heard so much about Rubiki Cafe that when I was looking for a lunch spot in Ringwood last week to take my mum and kids to, I knew where we were going. I wasn't exactly sure where it was until I realised I'd parked right out the front. Rubiki Cafe is located in the Ringwood North shopping strip facing out onto the back car park. It may not be much to look at from the outside, but it is a completely different story once you walk through the door.
Sinead
Great little busy spot in Ringwood north. Always packed. They have an extensive menu with all the normal brunch items. Coffee is a little weak but nice all the same. Yummy food and their thick slabs of bacon are memorable. All the staff are fabulous
I came to Rubiki for breakfast a few weekends ago with a girlfriend and it turned out to be quite a strange experience. The venue is quite a nice space and is airy, light and open with a view of the kitchen from the dining space. We got seated at a corner table and I looked into the kitchen to see the two chefs hard at work, no doubt. Both chefs had quite full beards – one ginger, one black. I didn’t see any hair nets on either of them so, I was a bit concerned about runaway beard hairs but not concerned enough to leave. Bad move!
This morning I had a meeting and decided afterwards to pop into Rubiki in Ringwood North. I had never been there before although it is only up the road from me and was really excited to try their coffee and food. I was greeted by a lovely young lady who also appeared to me the floor manager. She was super nice and asked me about my morning before handing me the menu and taking my drink order (my usual weak latte) As I was looking over the menu I could not help but notice the lovely decor and the interaction between staff and customers. The staff really looked after their customers well and knew the locals by name. I felt so warm and happy as I listened.
Stopped by Rubiki today for lunch. Great coffee and the pork belly was nice. Really friendly service. Probably the best coffee I've had in the eastern suburbs area cafes so far and I'm a coffee snob.
Gastrology
Rubiki excites with a menu that features nourishing, healthy food that is packed with flavour, and great coffee, all housed within a bright, relaxing environment. . We adored the sustainable approach to dining which focuses on high quality seasonal goods, mindfully sourced from a choice selection of local producers. The result is delicious, creative dishes cooked with lots of love and passion.
My wife and I come here regularly for coffee. We enjoy the friendly service and modern decor. We're yet to try the food, but the nice thing is we've never felt pressured to either. Consistently good coffee and bottomless water; a place where we can while away a weekend hour reading the paper. Always busy with a nice vibe.
My first visit to Rubiki, and I think I have just found my new favourite cafe in the area..
Great atmosphere, the staff were fantastic..they were all quick to say hello and smile , water was brought to me within a minute of me sitting down, and the offer of a menu or to take my order ..very professional, friendly and welcoming, and excellent customer service.
The coffee was lovely, full of flavour, might be a tiny bit strong for some people ( but was just right for me). I ordered fruit toast and it was fresh and delicious.
I will definitely be going back regularly.
Zoe
Had the activated charcoal burger. Nice enough but would have been better with a side of fries.
Coffee was pretty good. The service staff were pleasant to deal with and always smiling.
Breakfast menu seemed limited.
Arty
Nicely decorated cafe, friendly staff. Sadly that's where our positive experience ended. We orderd 2 beef burgers with charcoal buns. Our first burgers came out raw, the second time around they were cooked well but SO salty!! I love salty food but these burgers were too salty. I was also suprised that the rather small burgers were not accompanied by anything, no chips, no salad. Overall very disappointed.
BGfood
Love this place. They have the best coffee in the Ringwood area and a nice quiet atmosphere to work or catch up with a friend. The service is always friendly and the food is delicious. Burger nights are great too. There is no table service but it is a great take out option. Quality burgers too!
I live and work in the Eastern suburbs, and I've always been jealous of everyone working in the CBD or in the Fitzroy and Collingwood area, who have not just a few, but an abundance of great coffee and lunch places to visit. That's why I'm extra thankful for Rubiki, which is a wonderful find in the leafy part of Ringwood and a stone's throw away from my work.
Loulou
Staff were very accommodating as we brought along the new puppy for a morning outing. We sat outside and a water bowl was brought to her which was nice. Meals are tasty and averagely priced, with a large variety of meals from salmon to muesli or Vietnamese broth. Coffee was also good. Will be back to further try the menu
Bel
Pretty pricy, lovely service and good atmosphere. The greens salad was very overpriced and I was disappointed at it. My boyfriend has the slider trio which he enjoyed a lot. We split the polenta chips which I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall a decent Saturday lunch in the beautiful Ringwood.
A hidden gem out in the suburbs! I visited on a weekday for lunch and had a really enjoyable meal here. It was a lovely sunny day so we opted to sit outside. We were given water and menus right after being seated and the waitress came out to take our order shortly after.
I ordered the House-Made Hummus with spiced duke bread and a white chocolate and raspberry muffin. The hummus was fantastic, but it was the spiced duke bread that I fell in love with. It had the best crunchy texture from being perfectly toasted, and the dukkah on top made it so lovely and fragrant. I really, really enjoyed the dish. My raspberry muffin was also delicious. It was so fluffy and generously studded with fresh raspberries. The outside was wonderfully crisp, just the way I like my muffins. I also appreciated how it wasn't overly sweet.
My friend had the Crispy Skinned Atlantic Salmon with watercress and toasted walnut salad, rosemary polenta chips and horseradish. I only sampled a bit of the polenta chips, which I loved. The salmon and salad received good feedback from my friend.
I was satisfied with the service, although here seemed to be a bit of confusion in the kitchen. A few of the waitresses kept on coming over to our table and asking whether we ordered this and that. Otherwise, I had no problems with the service. The waitresses were attentive and refilled our glasses with water frequently.
Overall I loved my meal here. The food was incredibly tasty. I can't wait to sample the other dishes!
i was privileged to be invited to the summer menu launch for ringwood north café/restaurant ‘rubiki’ last week. whilst its not an area i would regularly frequent, the north-east/east outskirts of melbourne are really a hotspot at the moment as people look for close proximity and accessibility to the city whilst still being able to enjoy the quietness of the larger suburban blocks and ‘green space’. it doesn’t hurt that its also the gateway to the dandenongs and yarra valley!
Good Food = Happy Mood
Great menu well put together and nice presentation to accompany the goodness of the meals...good service and coffee...love this place and will definitely be back
Address: 204 Warrandyte Road, Ringwood NorthPhone: 03 9879 0869Website: hereInstagram: here. Yay! Summer is finally here! I’m sure across Melbourne most cafes have updated their menu to reflect the weather and our appetite – we’re all after lighter dishes to keep our body in shape. Rubiki Cafe, my local cafe, have also launched their summer menu, and I was lucky to be invited to preview their brand new summer menu! So if you’re in Ringwood area and looking for a cafe with great coffee and food, you should definitely check out Rubiki! They use locally sourced produce, with only free range eggs, small goods, chicken and pork and grass-fed beef and lamb. You can be sure of being nourished by Chef Ben Duncan.
Cosy local cafe which serves a large array of dishes. Would love to come back to try their lunch menu next time! Food was simple but hearty :)
Ordered the Vietnamese chicken broth. Honestly was one of the most tasteless meals I've ever had. The bowl was less than half full & had maybe 5 tiny slithers of chicken in it. Was really dissatisfied with the meal I received.
Herb Crusted Tuna, Nicoise Salad.
Striking Presentation.
So well balanced.
Sushi grade Yellow Fin Tuna.
Three types of mayo, all compliment the dish in a different way (Saffron, Wasabi and Beetroot).
Absolutely perfect.
This place is a true understated suburban Gem.
Thank you.
I booked ahead a table for two for breakfast requesting a table by the window. When I arrived the table was in a dark area and not near a window. As there were only about 10 other patrons, I chose a vacant table (for four) by the window and the waiter brought me water and said she would be back to take my order. Thinking I was doing the right thing, when she returned I mentioned that I'd booked over the phone only 10 minutes before and the table still had a reserved sign on it. This was a major problem as they were "likely to get busy" (no other tables were reserved) and suddenly I was not allowed to sit at my table, and must only sit at my booked table. I was really not happy about that as she was quite ok with me sitting there until I told her this, and requested more than once that I just stay where I was, but no, that was not possible because of the potential crowd of people that were about to invade. When I said it was too much trouble, I'll leave, the waiter said "ok". All of this had been very polite, but I was absolutely shocked that they were prepared to let a local client walk out of their cafe, not spend the $50 on breakfast for two, in case there were others that walked in and they got busy. There were other couples sitting at tables for four, so I couldn't work it out. I eat out at least once a day, and have never been treated like this, and sadly, for them, I'll take my $'s to Leaf and Vine cafe which is just down the road which is what we did, where they are always so welcoming and professional. I won't be back Rubiki. And I'll make sure all my friends know so they can make their own decision whether they want to pay for such a ridiculously poor experience.
What an incredible surprise! I had no idea there was a place so close to work that is so well presented in their food, device and in the physical. Coffee was good and the people I was with loved their meals as much as I! Baked gnocchi, sweet potato soup and Moroccan chicken were the days meals.
The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Grave
Oh hello there Rubiki. A quaint, yet warm cafe in an area outerwise not known for its dining? Don't mind if I check you out.
Ringwood North might be a bit of a hike for some, but if you ever find yourselves at the otherwise nondescript strip of shops there you would most likely find yourself at Rubiki. Fronted by head chef Ben Duncan, Rubiki aims to go back to basics and create innovative brunch dishes with locally sourced produce. And for the most part, they do.
The warm fit out of the wood helps tie it all together. Padre is running in the machine, a variety which I've never seen this far from the city. The coffee is definitely made well, as are the carious brunch dishes. The Rubiki Benedict definitely doesn't skimp out on the ham (no shaved-to-the-nanometre supermarket deli stuff here), and the blood orange hollandaise was a very pleasant surprise. The flavours of the blood orange gave a nice tangy sweetness to the dish, but didn't overpower it.
Whilst the food was very pleasant (and on the last few occasions I've dined), unfortunately the service at time has been a bit slack. There has been times where there has been quite a few things forgotten by the waitress, and this in a way has stopped me from thinking more positively. If this could be improved, Rubiki would definitely be in my top cafes.
Hello my new favourite place! The cafe is so beautiful, the interior is unreal. The wooden tables contrasted with the green plants argh fabulous! The staff were so attentive, both young girls were so friendly and engaged in conversation wishing me a 'happy birthday' and so on. The food was beautiful, cooked to perfection. The lamb just melted in my mouth! Great spot :-)
A local gem!. I've been living in the area for the past 15 years and not until now has there been a cool breakfast place that I'd recommend to my friends. Rubiki has an awesome atmosphere and even better breakfast :)
Delicious and about time. I've been a local for the past 15 years and it's an absolute relief to finally have a good local breakfast joint. I've recommended all my friends but I thought it might be easier to just write them a review.
My fave spot!. Friendly staff, great coffee, on trend industrial styling and a convenient location with plenty of parking... But what I love most about Rubuki is the menu, it's not the same as every other cafe around. The food is great and has something everyone will love, I try to get something different every time and I'm yet to be disappointed! An all round great cafe, I always recommend it to friends, family and work colleagues :) enjoy!
Service appalling. Served cold coffee. Food ordered didn't arrive at all. Water not topped up. All with about 6 other patrons in attendance. Why would we come back??
Awful. Awful service, rude staff especially the male owner, annoying chef that 'doesnt like to change the menu' when you ask for a tiny thing different in your meal.
Great every time!. Have been here a number of times and never disappointed. Great coffee and great service. Love the smashed avocado on toast - the best version of this I have ever had - and I have eaten a lot of avocado on toast. Hubby had the chicken skewers and raved about the flavour combination and the quality of cooking. Very good portion sizes. Been their many times and will be going there many more times in the future,
It's got potential. - The menu is interesting but not enough food on the plate for the cost, twice had very small serves for $16 and the second time was little more than a sandwich without garnishing of any description.
- The staff are very nice, attentive, ask about the meal, etc.
- The coffee and ambience is good, a good space and chilled out feel, lots of tables for groups - excellent
- Food comes out shortly after ordering, excellent (not 30 mins later, not 40 mins later, which I find tends to be a Maroondah thing ...)
Great Coffee & Friendly Staff. Had the most amazing coffee and muffin this morning - delish ! Even had to have a second coffee to go with the Chocolate Brownie the owner suggested to try. Great way to start the day. Lovely industrial feel and not over crowded. Will definitely be going back from more Brownies !!
Rubiki. Friendly efficient staff, good coffee.!!! The menu was a little confusing though. I was with an older friend who found it hard to understand, mainly breakfast orientated. Ended up having the chicken and avocado Bagettes for lunch. It was ok , a bit oily, had better. The thing is the menu is limited and they don't have the prices written on the menu, which is strange. 2 Bagettes and 2 skinny latte$, 27.00. I don't know if I would come back, it didnt grab me, very overpriced. maybe I ordered the wrong thing!!!
Must visit!!!!!!!!!!!. Had lunch here today! We started with the honeycomb milkshake, tasted exactly like a crunchy and a watermelon, strawberry and mint juice which was beautiful, light and so fresh. The food was outstanding. We ordered a variety of food, the ginger and garlic chicken skewers were 11/10, the lamb burger, the burger was so tender and melt in your mouth, the pork belly, as my brother said he just wanted it to go on forever and ever! Outstanding!!!! The salmon tart was cooked to perfection. If you're looking for something lighter and on the go, they have amazing baguettes and sandwiches made daily, which can be had fresh or toasted, I recommended the chicken and avocado baguette!!!! We finished with sweets and coffee, best coffee I've had in a long time and you can't go past the double choc lamington or the carrot cake. Both so moist and couldn't of tasted fresher. If you've ever doubted going there, experience it for yourself, this place is the go to place on the eastern side of town. Fresh, delicious and very well priced.
Cafe looks good, has a lot going for it - but too many stuff ups now.. Was excited with the opening of Rubiki, but let down too many times now.
I am yet to get a takeaway coffee that hasn't been messed up... crack in the cup - spills everywhere; I ordered weak skinny latte - walked out with strong large; sugar in latte - I didn't ask for sugar... the smallest of things they're just not getting right. These things are often noticed once you have left the cafe, so it's very disappointing when you're back in the car and your coffee is not what you ordered. Simply things guys.
Have had breakfast there a couple of times, again a series of coffee mistakes - ordered iced coffee - it literally had no coffee in it, asked to have it taken back and coffee added to it, and the barista adds 3 shots of coffee... was that to make a point? Sorry buddy it was your fault, own it.
Unfortunately it's one too many times - consistency is the key, and proper training for baristas and wait staff. I must say though, some of the staff are lovely... but some are very incompetent.
Oh and one more thing - the treats on the front counter look delicious and I'd love to buy them, but they are out in the open right where people are ordering... is no one else thinking that those muffins and treats are covered in germs from all the talking that happens right above the counter food...??? Rookie mistakes.
Lychee Congee with Crispy Pork. Delicious and filling
Not bad...... The service was friendly, the theme of the place is streamlined modern industrial and the food options are sufficient. We arrived around 8am and the place was very over staffed for servers. If they are going to stay around, they need to cut down on the wait staff. We ordered the shashouka, the fruit salad and the smashed avocado with an egg and a side of smoked salmon. The fruit salad was delicious, and even though the honey dew and rockmelon was tasty, there was a little too much of it in there for me. The shashouka was nice, but nothing to rave about. The smashed avocado was good, but the knife I had to use to cut through the sourdough was not serious enough to get through it. It was also a very large serving and I could not finish. My hubby said his latte was only average and my daughter had an apple, mint and strawberry fresh juice and she loved it. My chai was nice.
The prices were a little too high and I think for those prices, you would expect perfection and a view. (I have eaten at an amazing cafe on Bondi beach in Sydney and the prices were the same but the food and view was better.) Maybe if they cut down on service staff, they could cut the prices and attract more people.
Overall, it was good, not great and I am in no rush to return.
Not impressed. I had oily and undercooked scrambled eggs, i was sitting right beside the coffee machine and it was extremely loud, staff were rude and overall, did not enjoy my morning. definitely would not go back again.
No. No. No!!!. It is so difficult to write a review that has not a single positive factor. We were not greeted, we sat ourselves (3) on a table of 2 as the tables for 4 were being taken up by 2 people! A waitress then came over, put water glasses down and filled them. No smile, no hello...nothing. The owner then asked if we needed menus, but we found some sitting next to us already. Still nobody asked if we wanted coffee. We finally called over another waitress and ordered coffee with her. She took our order and then 5 minutes later moved us to a bigger table. We continued to wait for our coffees and ordered our food. 30 minutes had passed and still no coffee had arrived, yet others who ordered after us had received there coffees. I went up and asked one of the 4 people behind the counter and was informed because we moved table our coffee docket got lost...not sure how moving table affected a coffee docket but anywho, I repeated our order. Our food arrived and now 40 minutes had passed and still no coffee, even after repeating the order. Finally a coffee came to our table, but it was incorrect and had to be sent back. Then another coffee came to our table and we were told it was a soy fw...great that's what I ordered..except it came in a mug and was full cream. We asked the waitress 3 times if it was soy and she kept saying yes...I was lucky that I had mum try it first as I could tell it was not soy. I then went over to the counter again and repeated my order to the owner... soy fw and st sk fw... really this should not be a difficult order to remember! 50 minutes later and our meals finished, we received our very average coffee and was confronted by the "cold" waitress that it was not her fault, but the baristas fault who told her it was soy. Either way staff need to realise that some people who order soy are anaphylactic to milk and this could have had serious consequences if I had drunk the full cream milk. The owner (who couldn't even be bothered to come over to our table, but instead sent his manager) said everything would be okay because he was covering the bill. Just by covering the bill does not make this experience a positive one, however, training your staff could help future customers from feeling so negative. I really wanted to like this new cafe but after now going twice and coffees been forgotten both times, rude staff and owner who does not seem to care I will get back in my car and travel towards a good cafe. Don't bother with this one.
Hip cafe in Ringwood North, great food but very noisy!. This little café opened recently at the back of the North Ringwood shops at the corner of Oban & Warrandyte Rds. For the area, it is pretty hip and groovy, and it's proving very popular! The décor is very streamlined, neutral and modern - concrete floors, a long wooden table for communal mingling in the centre, some smaller wooden tables that are very close to each other (but it's so noisy you don't have to worry about anyone hearing your conversation) and wooden benches with stools along the big windows (with views of the carpark, LOL!).
Coffee here is good and I was very impressed with the food (breakfast/lunch menu) - lots of innovative dishes, often involving eggs & bacon, and presented imaginatively. Servings are generous. I had their home-made granola with poached pear & yoghurt, it was really nice and very filling, I could not eat it all. Accompanying milk came in a small glass milk bottle, cute! My friend had fried eggs & bacon (on the menu they're called 'slabs' and that's what they are, they are quite thick) on toast (looked like sourdough), it was a big serving and looked delicious. There are also a nice selection of sweets (cake, muffins) at the counter, they look really nice, not mass-market stuff. Service is quick friendly and helpful, top marks. So overall, this café is really good, but the noise levels!!! On Sunday at 10am, the café was very busy, music was playing in the background and the chatter volume was loud! They need to do something about the acoustics, too many hard surfaces. I had trouble hearing my friend speak and by 11am I'd had enough. We escaped to another café nearby and it was an oasis of calm and tranquillity - bliss!
Rubiki - something different FINALLY!. I have been to Rubiki's now four times since it's opened. It has fabulous food which is different from other nearby cafes. They have really put a lot of thought into the food which is wholesome and very flavourful. The coffee is excellent and the service very friendly.
This is my new local café.
Awesome Chai!. Stopped in for a Chai Latte and Babychino. I was not disappointed. The service was very welcoming and friendly and the staff were all friendly to my little toddler who keenly touched the plants along the window sil. The Chai was made from leaf and it was divine! It was hot and perfectly brewed! Very happy and can't wait to go back for a meal!
Very pricey. Good service, food was not bad either but being charged $10 for a piece of cheese and two slices of tomato in a bread stick is taking the piss. $14 for poached eggs and bacon is very steep too.
Beware the prices
Popped in for a quick coffee and was so happy with the service. The people were delightful and friendly, the coffee was great and the place looks fantastic! Definately recommend it!
10 out of 10!. My partner and I stopped by for brunch today and were not left disappointed! We had the scrambled eggs with bacon and the pork roll followed by coffees and muffins. The food was fantastic - coffees were the best we've had in a long time. Friendly and attentive staff. Rubiki has brought the city dining and atmosphere to Ringwood. I highly recommend stopping by, you won't be disappointed!
Finally somewhere in the suburbs with good coffee. We live around the corner in North Ringwood and have been waiting for a place like this. We were there for breakfast on Sunday, the cafe's only third day trading and it was marvelous. The food was amazing, we had smashed avocado and my husband had scrambled eggs on toast. The staff are lovely and helpful and it was nice to talk with one of the waitresses who knew not only about the food and coffee but also about art.
We shall be back, just call us regulars.
Rubiki! Where have you been all my life?. Finally real coffee and very real food have arrived in North Ringwood and not a moment too soon. Greeted happily by friendly staff was a great start and instantly felt welcomed by the warmth of the space and loved the funky yet relaxed fit out. What a change from the daggy frozen yoghurt joint it used to be! Served quickly and my coffee was spot on and presented beautifully quickly followed by the best and freshest fruit salad and organic natural yoghurt. My brother had the house made granola with poached pear and I managed to pry away a mouthful and it was outstanding. Menu reads like a dream and is full of locally sourced produce, organic and free range goods which is very impressive and I look forward to trying several dishes in the near future. Took my husband home one of the house made muffins and he said it was the best he’d ever had – being one tough muffin critic this is serious praise! Keep up the great work Rubiki!
Rebecculous
You had me at Padre coffee. Great food. Awesome fit out. About time there was an excellent cafe in the area. No more driving into Melbourne for a Sunday breakfast. Outdoor tables and alcohol coming soon will tick all my boxes.
North Ringwood’s first “real” cafe. Finally, we have a great cafe in North Ringwood. We’d had high hopes for Rubiki and it certainly exceeded our expectations! Great coffee, amazing granola, excellent atmosphere and awesome staff. What a welcome relief. Great job, Rubiki
Rubiki. Like Rafiki. But not a monkey from the Lion King. It’s a café. Ok so now we have that sorted out, moving on. I like eating. Fact. Ok. Fine. I love eating. So when new cafés open in my local ‘burbs. Well, it’s a very exciting moment.
The World Loves Melbourne
Rubiki has caused a stir in the outer eastern suburbs after it recently opened, with its attractive menu choices and modern fit out. It seems the outer east is benefitting from a spate of new cafe openings and there's none finer than Rubiki.
Peach-Water
A decent cafe in my area! I’m so glad I came across the lovely Jess’s instagram, that I was able to visit this cute little cafe – Rubiki Cafe in the Eastern side. If you live out in the outer eastern suburbs, you will know how hard it is to find a cafe with decent coffee and food.
