Another great family dinner at the best Japanese in the East.
Food good as ever, and staff friendly and accommodating.
Just at great place to eat.
It is absolutely brilliant! We've been coming here for over ten years. The food is amazing as are the wonderful staff- highly recommended oh and the pancakes are the best!
I have been eating here for 22 years and never had a bad meal; the place does need an update but food is devine
Also been eating at the Suishaya Inn for a lot of years, close to 30. Love the food, it never disappoints. Staff are lovely.
We love Suishaya Inn. 5 stars! Service is always exceptional and the food is delicious. A very warm atmosphere, great place to catch up with friends
Our favourite restaurant, love the Sushi & Sashimi House Special.
Amazing service, amazing food! One of the best Japanese places I've been to in Australia :D
Yummy! Service and food is best!
I will visit again!
We have been coming to this wonderful restaurant from when our children were young
Without fail they have never ever altered in the quality value and great service
We love this restaurant
FYI 16 years !!!!
Paul & Elvira Moodie
Delicious food, attentive staff - favourite local restaurny
Love this place! Service & food always brilliant.
Been going since the early 90s... love so much on the menu and the sushi and sashimi is top quality! Too many favourites to mention! Everyone there is so friendly and always happy to see us again, have lost count of how many birthdays the family have shared with these guys.
It was just bang on....we got delivery. It would be bang on! if we went to the restaurant in person.. Give the miso eggplant ago.
Only downer was Gyoza was a tad soft....understandably because of takeaway containers.
Will definitely order/eat here again
A coupla decades ago, this was the location I took my soon-to-be forever partner. He'd never had Japanese food, whereas, it was my favourite cuisine. I had no idea how frightened he was all those years ago, considering he thought the best food came out of a place with a big yellow 'M'. I was on a mission to educate his palate. It's fair to say, it didn't happen overnight, but he did realise that Japanese food is nothing to be afraid of, and now he adores tuna sushi. Now we both love it, as do all of our kids.
I am really not sure why we stayed away so long, but we have since revisited and do not plan to make it a one-off.
There is a little amuse-bouche of vegetables to get you in the mood. While I was only moderately keen on the house-cocktail, every other drink I have tried has been delicious, including the sake - I am a novice, but the staff will help advise. The prices for drinks are very reasonable.
Three banquette options are available, and look good value, but we only gone our own way.
I think the sashimi entree is great value, in my two recent visits I haven't managed to go past it. Soups too, are worthwhile
Tempura main here is generous and well cooked. Okonomiyaki too, is a delightful version, with chunks of the octopus obvious within the crisp little balls. Tatsuta Age gives you big chunks of crispy chicken, with good flavour.
I quite enjoy hearing the clicking of the chef at the teppanyaki grill, he always seems to be enjoying himself. Some of the staff are very knowledgeable, though you may encounter a newbie, they're happy to find the answer to your question.
A disappointment was that, on a recent visit, although we made a booking, our table was right in front of the door, rather than slightly further into the restaurant away from the rather cold breeze every time someone entered - on a Melbourne winter even a partition wont stop that chill. I felt we sat at the table you'd expect as a walk-in, rather than book for, pity.
went here for my birthday and was pleasantly surprised. every dish had been really nice, and especially the miso soup was the best miso I have ever had. staff were really nice and there wasn't a wait between dishes. the potato on the tempura dish was undercooked so we didn't eat it, staff had asked us if everything was ok and they were happy to get us a new batch. :)
had a really good experience here with tasty food.
19/06/2016 - Best Japanese ever! Top quality food, attentive servers and menu has both hot and cold dishes so there is something for everyone. Everything was perfect.
Started visiting this place again after being disappointed after new management and am pleased to say that it is amazing again! Have been going here about once a fortnight its that good! the banquet with the miso steak is a personal favourite as is the bento box. Really friendly and lovely from the first impression till leaving
Not the most attractive restaurant.
But serves deliciously fresh and tasty Japanese food.
Great for large groups, book the banquet room upstairs!
Great food, friendly staff, reasonably priced, long history in the area, that says it all. Eaten here numerous times, always fabulous standard
Looks can be deceiving! Tucked away, but restaurant was jamming and lively. Gyozas a must try and sashimi is fresh. Very reasonably priced. Wine list could do with some updating, terrible list. Customer service excellent and would return!
perfect night, delicious dishes, good service and places, love the atmosphere, also the price is reasonable ! Highly recommended !!! Had a blast !
Good quick service and a decent Japanese menu.
We'd booked in for a birthday and they surprised us with a birthday pancake for desert - nice touch.
A little smokey inside because of the grill .. Will go back.
On the weekend I went to the much anticipated Suishaya Inn located in Ringwood. I tried the Saturday before without a booking but was told at 7pm that the whole night had been booked and there was no room at the inn (Pun intended) So all week I had been dreaming and envisioning this amazing Japanese restaurant that was so popular I could not get in. That has to be a good sign right?
Booked for one Friday dinner. Service was good though staff could have been a bit more attentive. The restaurant is a little crowded, or maybe it was the seating lay out which made it difficult to move through the place. The more important thing is the food. We had tempura and pumpkin spring rolls for entree. The tempura vegetables were well cooked though the batter was a little thick and quickly became soggy in the dipping sauce The pumpkin spring rolls were quite nice, and their dipping sauce just made the flavour better.
For main there was tuna sushi which was soft and delicious! The tuna was so soft that when you bit into it, you almost didn't realise it. Very tasty! My guest had teriyaki beef with rice and vegetables. The serve was large, especially with the entree but it was tasty. We didn't have room for dessert!
Overall I'd recommend it, and it has been there for a while. Takeaway is available so if you are after a night in, that's a good option.
Fantastic service, delicious food and served swiftly. My boyfriend and I used to frequent a restaurant named Kizuna and were heart broken when it shut down. We then found Sushiya Inn and we were blown away by the excellent service, beautiful decor and friendly staff. The food was delicious and the entrees were served one by one which meant that the table was never over crowded. We had Takoyaki and it is easily the best takoyaki I have ever tried. In most I have tried in the past, they really skimp out on the squid. Sushiya Inn had the perfect amount of squid. We had tempura mushrooms and both my partner and I believe it is the best we have ever had. They were crispy and soft inside without being at all greasy despite being deep fried. The yaki udon (which is a personal favourite of mine) was very delicious and the meat was tender.
Overall a very positive experience and my partner and I will both happily dine there again.
I always enjoy having dinner here. The food is lovely and affordable. I only wish they would open a little earlier.
Unusually Good. We had gone in, didn't have a booking but were able to accommodate. As soon as you walk in, beautiful entrance, nothing i've ever seen before at any other Japanese restaurants in Melbourne.
We had ordered some entrees, gyoza, ika salad, sashimi entree and one main of chicken teriyaki with vegetables. Gyozas were delicious and flavoursome, the ika salad was ok, needed a bit more flavour kick, sashimi was fresh and fantastic and the chicken teriyaki was quite nice as well, probably needed some rice to go with the dish. Overall food was great, felt like a homecooked meal style, service was fantastic, they're very attentive, we asked for water as we were seated, they literally brought it out in a matter of 10 seconds. I'd come back, what a hidden gem
Love it!. This has been my favourite restaurant for over 8 years! My family and I always attend here for family dinners and birthdays. The staff are so welcoming and especially the owner Cindy who knows all of her customers by their names.
We have never had a bad meal and we go every month at least (sometimes two or three times!). The only bummer is there isn't much new things on the menu but other than that always a pleasure :)
Amazing! Loved every part of our suishaya banquet. Fresh delicious food. The best Japanese restaurant I've ever been to! Recommended to all my family and friends
Been here lots over the years with friends and always enjoyed myself. Birthdays we would book out the private room upstairs ( worth doing with a group). Came back last night and still the same great place. Always recommend it.
Another great meal.. We have been eating here for years and have never had a bad meal. The owner Cindy and her staff have always been friendly and helpful. Would recommend it to all...
My favourite place to eat in the Southeastern Suburbs. My Best buddy shouted me to my 21st dinner here and I have been a loyal customer ever since. With Fantastic, eager, polite staff, a wonderful range of well prepared /decently priced foods and a relaxing and inviting environment I can honestly say I have Loved every meal I have had here! Recently a staff member even chased me half way down the street to return my jacket when my silly self forgot it :P Always worth a visit, I cannot even count the amount of times I have been, and I am a very hard customer to win over, but with these guys, the service and food is always above and beyond and a cut above the rest. Kudos Suishaya!
I think the food ok, not particularly special, a little bit salty, and serve portions can be more generous, price a bit on the slight high side. Had tempura tonight, quite oily but...
My family and I have been eating here for years and years, the food is always amazing, the staff very helpful and friendly with food being served very quickly even when they're busy!
Great Food. We dined there many times and never had any problem. I must comment that on a busy Saturday night, we sat near a couple who were rude especially the lady who I think must have a rough day at home. She was rude and fussy, she complaint about every meal or drinks that were served to her. OMG we feel so sorry for the waitresses and the owner who tried so hard to please her. They were so busy but they still have to put up with all these nonsense.
I think it's very unfair. We had a great night. We eat out a lot and we must say that not many restaurants would bother to put up with these nonsense but they did, so we give them a thumb up for a good service, food & patience
Easts #1 Japanese. Took a real shining to Japanese food many years ago. Have tried all the Japanese east and south-east and have found this to clearly be the best in consistency of food, taste, quality and service.
It was my first time going here with my friends and I wasn't sure what to expect! To my greatest surprise, the food was absolutely fresh, original, authentic and amazing! The service was also perfect! They cleaned our tables instantly when there was a mess and always asked if there was any helped needed. I'll be definitely coming back again! I recommend this to everyone! Make sure you order the California Roll too!!
Awesome Japanese-style experience. I had the 2-person Nishkiri (not sure on spelling) banquet for $39 and was very impressed. The miso soup was full, flavoursome and not salty, the salmon nigiri and prawn spring rolls were equally lovely tasting. The best part of it though was the Tempura battered vegetables and prawn, the pumpkin in paticular was a great mix of textures and flavours. The Tatsuta Age chicken was beautiful with the mayonnaise and felt much smoother than any crumbed chicken due to the marinade; soy but not overpowering. Another main with noodles later and the green tea ice cream was a VERY large portion, especially as a 8th meal in a banquet, with Japanese Green tea that was full of flavour, yet not too strong. All in all it was all the food you need, price easily reasonable, staff were attentive and patient as we wanted to wait. Only possible downside is the Decor, with some flashing lights at the back breaking the mood, though the bamboo at the entrance was lovely, and the table breakers seemed very traditional and subtle. Would come back again, 95/100.
Very good food and great service. delicious grilled eggplant and prawn springrolls. Bit pricey but 10% off for paying with cash helped.
Best Kept Secret in Melbourne. This has to be the best Japanese Restaurant in Melbourne, well Ringwood. We have been dining here for years now. We have tried other Japanese restaurants and continue to do so but nothing compairs to the food here. And the staff are the most lovely attentive people you will come across.
Try the Kobe Steak or the Tatsuka Age (Chicken) actually I have never had a dish I didnt love.
Good food, fresh sashimi and fast service. Plus, there's a 10% discount for cash in hand (wink.. Wink)
Nice relaxed feel, service is good, good is very nice a nd it's reasonably priced
Go here regulary and absolutely love the food !!!!
Enjoyed the meal but nothing to write home about. Sake cocktail was pretty good though.
