Review Kyoto Cafe - Ringwood

Joyce K
Great place for a gathering with friends, lots of seatings available and upstairs. The food is ok, could be improved. The chefs seemed very young, so not well experienced but good job for cooking all the food! We had the tempura udon ($20). If you’re wanting quantity over quality, then you’ve come to the right place. There was a huge serving of tempura for one person (2 prawns + 13 vegetables including okra, zucchini, broccoli, sweet potato, beans etc). The deep fried batter was inconsistent, some were crunchy but the majority was not. The batter is not like the high end Japanese restaurants where they use a white coloured batter. This batter was more like a yellow coloured batter and easily become soggy. The udon was nice though, not too salty and complimented the tempura flavour well. Overall a great place for your typical Japanese cravings but if you’re expecting high quality Japanese food, then you won’t get that here. Service was great and friendly.

Food is excellent, authentic from japan which is operate by mostly all Japanese. Service is so friendly with a big smile and polite. The food taste so good and price is reasonable. Due to covid, the choice of menu lesser than usual. But that not bother us to enjoy our lunch. Keep it up ❤️

Kyoto Cafe provides Japanese spirit of hospitality as serving authentic Japanese cuisine and various Matcha drinks and desserts. 🇯🇵. It has been a while since I last visited Kyoto Cafe and I remember they use to do bento sets pre covid ☹️ Featured: 🥗 Salmon Sushi Poke Bowl 🍣 Grilled Salmon Nigiri Rolls 🥤Matcha & Mango Booster 🥤Matcha Ginger Beer Booster Friendly staff and very nice atmosphere.

Kyoto cafe is an authentic Japanese experience that reminds me of Kyoto in Japan. There’s such a wide variety of Japanese deserts, food and beverages to choose from. Even though the prices of the food on the menu are a little on the expensive side, they are very delicious and will definitely leave you satisfied and a taste of Japan. I especially like the desserts here because it’s hard to find authentic Japanese desserts that uses real matcha. Highly recommend!

Delicious food and very nice ambience. The waitress who served us was amazingly friendly and professional. Highly recommend this place! I've been here a few times already and will keep coming back.
Lina
Nice Japanese restaurant with great selection of food, drinks, and dessert!! 😍 Friendly service too. Definitely going back.

The food is fantastic, all the flavours are there with both meat and fish style dishes. And this is probably where I have found the best matcha latte so far in Melbourne. The attention to detail is amazing. This restaurant did remind me a little of being back in Japan with it’s menu, flavours and atmosphere inside. Beautiful restaurant. The atmosphere in the air is very minimal, and straight to the point with no clutter. Been here a few times now, for lunches and dinners. This place is definitely worth a try at Eastland, you can’t miss it.

Food here is excellent, and reasonably priced. However eat in much better then takeaway. I wish they would split hot and cold items when packing take away.

Excellent service and great authentic Japanese cuisine beautifully presented. We've been here three times and they've always been consistent and never failed to impress. Highly recommended.

The food here completely blew me away. I was sooo impressed! Worth the 40 minute drive from the north :) Arigato gozaimasu!

Amazing and authentic food! Friendly staff and a diverse menu.

Nice environment, great service and the food is to die for! Very authentic Japanese Restaurant

Such a lovely place to enjoy really excellent Japanese food. Great service as well!

What a delightful restaurant. The staff are welcoming and so good at what they do, and the food is simply delicious. Great value for money, a lovely experience all round each time I’ve dined there, thank you.

One of my favourite places to go for lunch and dinner. Staff are always extremely friendly with great service and nothing is ever to much trouble. Food is amazing and always fresh. Absolutely love it

Food here is generally great. We have been here a few times and did not disappoint. Service is very friendly and genuine. Do not recommend the sugar free matcha latte (smells fishy 😅)
Kimmythefoodlover
Don’t really think it deserves the 4.1 rating on here. The food was definitely not the quality I expected, and service was just average. The spicy wagyu don tasted nothing like wagyu and was mediocre at best, also gyozas were oily. Definitely overpriced for what it is, and when we went they didn’t even allow us to use the 15% Gold discount, without giving a valid reason.
Annie
Lovely food and drink and also the staff, been here lots of time and always want to come back. Love the bento, pork yakisoba and their matcha drink
Scottt
Matcha Latte, Hojicha Latte and Matcha cheesecake were all disappointing, very mild in flavour and small for the price. Service was friendly.
Foodformoneyworth
Very cute and tasty bentos! Kids bento for $6.8 with ice cream is very worth it!

Just a great place to have some consistently high quality food. Love the authenticity of this cafe.

Enjoyed dining here. The friendly staff accommodated our baby in his pram. Service was good as were the food. Prices are slightly on the steep side. Ambiance is great.

An interesting menu here - from Japanese curry and sashimi to a crepe (??) and cake. We had the fried chicken, which was a new addition to the menu, the chicken katsu curry, aburi salmon, and had to try the crepe!! <br/><br/>The food was average, nothing spectacular. Karaage chicken had an interesting coating, perhaps double dipped in corn starch? <br/><br/>Would come back to try the dessert/coffees.
David
Impeccable customer service and amazing food. I have had bad experiences with the other places I have tried in Eastland's outdoor section (especially Hunky Dory), but Kyoto Cafe was simply wonderful in every respect and the staff should be commended for providing the best restaurant experience I have had in several years. I will definitely be back.
Jen
Very polite and courteous waitress. We had spicy fried chicken Bento, unagi on rice with salad and tonkatsu ramen. The Bento was beautifully presented and the fried chicken was crispy. We found the ramen and unagi rice were tastier dishes. Ramen came with nice charsu and broth. We had the matcha cake too which was just nice - not too sweet and layered. The venue is clean and calm.

Tried their bento box before, not so great, sushi balls inside are very disappointing. & The macha latte just seemed not bitter enough. Came back again with zomato gold, tried chicken katsu curry, that was delicious. The small salad comes with the meal can be improved, soggy lotus cracker, canned pineapple ? Is there no other fresh fruit and vege ?
LiliAngGo
Amazing food as always eventhough a bit overpriced. Matcha latte is one of the best in Melbourne. Bento varieties is amazing. Feels like transported back to Japan. However, okonomiyaki not up to par. Must be improved in terms of quality and size. I havent found a decent okonomiyaki in Melbourne since Daimaru back in 1995. ZG benefit was the sushi platter, doesnt apply on bentos. As always happy tummy for us all 😄😄 Will definitely be back next time.

This cafe is amazing, for a japanese food restaurant i think, one of the best that i ever know. The price also worth for the food.

Ordered the Unagi bento box and got food poisoning. Looking back, the Chawanmushi was undercooked and the sashimi slices on sushi were a little slimy and fishy. Hopefully management sees this review and be careful in the future.
Emaleth1
Went on Zomato gold. Bento boxes and sashimi box not included in deal. Allegedly sold out of Unagi and Sashimi salmon, but table next door received the salmon who ordered after us. Ordered the Wagyu steak and spicy miso chicken fillet. 5 pathetic morsels of “Wagyu” for $35 arrived. This was definitely not Wagyu, less than 100g of tough rump meat served instead. Spicy miso chicken fillet was dry and bland. The matcha latte was the best part however for $6 a pop for a tiny glass not value for monet. Wish I could take my hard earned $60 back and have better japanese food elsewhere. Highly disappointing, totally ruined my night!

We used Zomato gold, 1+1 food purely to check out the place. there are some limitations as to the meal we can order for 1+1, no free meals for box, sashimi sushi set...presentation was colourful and nice but the curry beef was a bit overcooked. The restaurant is busy with lots of patrons but we probably will not come back for meals because it is slightly overpriced once the deals is over (sorry just my personal opinion) but the cakes look awesome and it is something worth trying next time.

Most of the food was just alright. Much better around. One item we ordered requesting sauce on the side and was delivered covered in sauce. Another we requested to have vegetarian sushi alternatives which for staff said could be accommodated, however we received non-vegetarian sushi a total of 3 times, each time being taken away and promised to be replaced. After being served this sushi 3 times, we were finally served their version of vegetarian sushi - the exact same nigiri with the sashimi simply peeled off. Massive, plain rice balls with a dollop of wasabi. After pointing this out, the rice balls were taken away, rolled up inside of soybean skins and served again. We then gave up on asking again. Will not be coming back.

Lovely Japanese curry on rice. Comes with salad for an extra $2. Nice service and ambience. Plenty of space. Zomato members enjoy one for one! 👍🏼
Emily
One of our favourite Japanese places in Melbourne. Our regular orders are the chicken katsu curry rice and the aburi salmon. Try their desserts too!
Rachel
Been here a few times and the food tasted worsen everytime. Ordered wagyu bento, unagi with rice plus salad and fried chicken. Wagyu was overcooked, tempura was soggy obviously not cooked by order, cawanmushi was a total fail very eggy taste, unagi was fishy, fried lotus and crackers on the salad were soggy and I can still go on... only the fried chicken and the sushi rice were up to expectation. Comparing the first visit (few years back) to this one, food quality dropped tremendously. With the price we are paying to get this quality of food, we would not go back again even with zamato gold 1+1.
I_Love_To_Dine_Out
Best place for unagi.

Very popular place even on weekdays. Unfortunately didn't live up to its hype. Food was extremely average, especially at the price point. All serving sizes were really small. Okonomoyaki was mostly dough without cabbage and other fillings :( only plus was the nice interiors and the lovely service.

First time trying out Kyoto Cafe and overall I really enjoyed it! <br/>I had the Wagyu Beef Yakiniku Bento and added on the additional sashimi. Delicious. <br/>Beef was perfectly cooked, Sashimi fresh, and Tempura nicely fried. <br/>Staff were very friendly and available. <br/>I got to sit at the sushi bar opposite the chefs where sometimes you get to watch them working. Unfortunately there were a few items blocking the view. <br/>Overall great experience and would come back to try their other dishes.

For $35 this Wagyu Beef Steak didn’t deliver. It didn’t taste at all like Wagyu and lacked flavour. For $35 you’re better off going elsewhere for an actual steak meal. Will still come back but won’t be ordering this again.

First time here and we have to say this place is spectacular, from friendly service to a delicious meal. Highly recommend!
Michtu143
You can buy a Bento and get something else free but you can't get a Bento Box free as part of zomato gold, but overall the food is great :) we love the grilled salmon
Jepps
Came here for lunch and they were perhaps under staffed. We ordered the spicy salmon poke bowl (1.5/5) $15 and the prawn and scallop sushi $20. The poke bowl had minimal ingredients and about 3/4 of the bowl was just rice. Super bland and actually not worth it at all. The sushi was good, although still lacked flavour, they could have seared the scallops for extra taste as they tasted really raw. <br/>The food took about 40 minutes to come out so was kind of annoying if your starving or in a rush wanting a quick meal. The staff were friendly but not attentive. Overall not the best dining experience considering this place has pretty high ratings

Was highly recommended by our friends so went to try. Great service and pretty good food. As it was a rainy day so I went for something warm and crowd pleasing Japanese dish, fried chicken curry rice. It was sumptuous and I enjoyed the beautifully bread crumb coated chicken katsu.
Jared Rawlins
The Pork Yakisoba was very average, very cheewy and not very nice at all. The sushi was great and the bento box pork was great too.
Ranna Zheng
Went for a Friday lunch, and the restaurant was extremely understaffed. Many people were waiting to be seated while the restaurant was still half empty.<br/>Zomato gold was not applicable on all Bentos which was disappointing. Ordered Ramen, port cutlet curry, and unagi rice. All just fast food standard, no flavour. Unagi tasted like packaged unagi from Asian supermarket, and tonkatsu ramen tasted like packaged Ajisen Ramen cooked at home.<br/>The decor is nice and cakes looks nice. May try the dessert instead of any mains dishes from the menu if I ever come back here again.<br/>
Good Food Lookout
Good atmosphere but when we engaged the waitress before ordering and asked whether the Bento sets were included in the Zomato Gold deal, she said yes. When we paid for the bill, they could only discount the cheapest (of 4 items) meal of $14.50 and charged for the other 3 bento boxes. Also, instead of a Terriyaki Tofu bento, they charged for a Salmon Bento box (higher priced) & none of the 3 bento boxes came with chawan mushi even though the menu described that as an accompaniment. They “ran out” of chawan mushi was what I was told when paying and there was no deduction in the bill whatsoever. Poor experience, overcharged and will not return.

Love dining at kyoto cafe for their wide range of options available. There is definitely something for everyone. If you are visiting, & stuck for what to order definitely go for the bentos which offer a bit of everything! I love the bentos because they make the most adorable bite sized temari sushi balls which you don't really see at other Japanese places. Flavour wise, everything is above average and so worth for the price point (their portions are massive). The most amazing thing? They are one of the zomato gold partners so you get one for one on food if you subscribe (subject to terms). The service is splendid and one of the better dining spots in Eastland!
Angelo Pinnaduwa
This was my spot to utilize a zomato gold option. A really nice spot with a good ambience and it does set you in a good mood.<br/><br/>We got the spicy wagyu beef don and the 8 grilled salmon sushi. The wagyu beef was definitely not wagyu beef as they went for a well done level of cooking which wouldn't happen for a wagyu beef grade. However i liked the sauce flavor which was close to Teriyaki.<br/>The grilled salmon sushi seemed alittle bland which was a big disappointment as the salmon wasn't fresh. The other big let off was thr quality of the wasabi, an almost powdery texture which wasnt spicy at all. So the sushi was a disappointment for sure.<br/><br/>Very worth for the offer, but don't think I'd go for sushi.

There was a lot to appreciate about this establishment. You get a warm inviting feel as you step in and while it wasnt consistent to all staff, service was attentive. Little details like providing water and having a plastic instead of glass cup for little ones without customers having to ask was appreciated. As we ordered some of the more expensive items of the menu, we were a little disappointed that we did not feel like we got our money's worth- like with the Bento box- but we would like to come back one day and try out other individual items as it was such a memorable dining experience here
Kylie
Tldr: Decent food but only the Bento is worth it. Friendly staff but long wait time. Value for money with Zomato Gold.<br/><br/>We came at 1pm today and waited around 20 minutes to be seated, even though the restaurant wasn't that busy. There were empty tables here and there, but each were not cleared of the dirty dishes from previous customers. We don't blame the wait staff however - there were only two girls who were running around trying to serve everyone, even making the desserts. They were severely understaffed.<br/><br/>The food was alright. We ordered the Wagyu beef Bento Box which was delicious and impeccably made, and we were very satisfied after. However the unagi jyubako was lacking in the actual unagi. As shown in the photos it was 80% rice and only three small pieces of unagi - previously there was five or six. Takoyaki was excellent, as in most restaurants.
Peggy
Poor service, we had 3 ppl on the table and 2 of us are members, but they only allow us to use 1 Zomato gold. Will never come back again👎🏻👎🏻

[Overall Rating: 5/10]<br/>Very average food, nothing spectacular. I would not recommend coming here given the quality of food and value is nothing to shout about. Maybe their drinks and dessert might be better? Will try that next time.. when I feel game enough.<br/><br/>[Recommended]<br/>✔️Nil. Nothing I ate was exceptional or tasty enough to recommend.<br/>⭕The grilled scallop and prawn roll was the best of three dishes we ordered. However it was so over priced $20 for just 5 or 6 pieces.<br/>⭕Tuna sashimi fry was unique as I have not come across this in other Melbourne Japanese restaurants. I'd suggest trying it for fun but not because its mind blowingly delicious.<br/><br/>[Not Recommended]<br/>❌Chicken cutlets with spicy miso was dry and bland.<br/><br/>[Service/Restaurant]<br/>Service was okay, not super friendly but not cold either. However I am annoyed that this is one of those restaurants that like to be petty and charge for every little thing. I was given a small miserable dab of wasabi and wanted a little more to accompany my very bland and average meal… but was told it's an extra 50cents. Cost is not the main issue here, it's the good service and feeling you get when a restaurant tends to your needs and makes you feel valued as a customer. I will not return nor recommend anyone to dine here.

Service and food was fantastic. Would recommend the Double Salmon Roll - delicious! Always have this each time I visit Kyoto Cafe. Will be back again soon!

My go to place for Japanese cuisine around this area. Good delicious food, clean environment and good service. The cakes and matcha latte are a must try!
Millie
Good food good service! We ordered one get one free by using Zomato gold member. The food are fresh and the tastes are just what we like! Although it’s a bit pricey but worth to try.

the food is ok, service is ok everything is average, I think bento is good value but actually the price is not cheap so the quantity is not equal, soso

Kyoto Cafe is located on the outside food court at Eastland Shopping Centre. The interior of the place gives a very warm and welcoming feeling. I love how they play japanese cafe jazz kind of music. <br/><br/>The cafe is open during lunch and dinner. Both have different menus. The lunch menu is obviously a lot more limited. We came for dinner. The dinner menu had more sushi dishes, meat dishes, savoury crepes etc. We ordered the double salmon roll, kaarage, grilled salmon and grilled salmon crepe. <br/><br/>I really enjoyed the double salmon roll and the grilled salmon. The grill salmon was delicious! The salmon melted in my mouth and was coated with a teriyaki sauce and dollop of mayonnaise on top. Worth ordering when coming here! The double salmon roll was great as well. There wasn’t much salmon inside the roll other than that, the salmon was fresh and delicious.<br/><br/>I wasn’t the biggest fan of the kaarage. It was pretty average. The chicken wasn’t the juiciest and the batter was medicore. <br/><br/>My least favourite dish had to be the grilled salmon crepe which was grilled salmon, poached egg, rice, salad, avacado, red relish, ginger and soymayonaise on a crepe. The crepe was slightly rubbery. I don’t think it went well with the dish tbh, It was more a egg roll kind of thing instead of a crepe. Everything on the crepe didn’t go well together, especially the salad. You end up finishing the grilled salmon and it becomes a salad and crepe dish. I’ll have to give this one a miss.<br/><br/>Overall, I would come back here for the salmon stuff and maybe try out their bento boxes or meat dishes. The service was quick and I really liked the atmosphere of the place.
Rachel
very tasty! staffs are friendly! we will come again:)<br/>we ordered port curry and chicken curry, they are quite nice and better than average.<br/><br/>I strongly recommend today's ramen , my daughter so love it and we don't feel thirsty after eating noodles and curry.<br/><br/>
Jonnevie And Jolene
Very friendly and polite staff. Lovely setting, and surroundings.<br/><br/>We ordered the wagyu beef curry, spicy chicken karage, takoyaki, and unagi.<br/><br/>Very fresh veg in the curry, though I haven't seen a Japanese curry with cruciferous veg and pumpkin in it before.<br/><br/>Takoyaki was a bit dark and over fried for my liking, compared to the ones in Japan which were more of a golden colour with liquidy interior and octopus chunks.<br/><br/>Unagi was filling, but had many tiny bones in it in one section which detracted from the overall experience.<br/><br/>The spicy chicken karage was very crispy and had a sweet spicy sauce. Probably the highlight of the meal.<br/><br/>Overall okay, since they are on Zomato gold, would give them another go with their other dishes.<br/>

The food are gorgeous and delicious! <br/>

The food here was very pretty and the atmosphere was Nice due to the decoration of the place and the kitchen being partially visible thus allowing you to see the chefs preparing the sushi. The customer service was ok, the waitresses were adequately friendly but nothing memorable. The food itself came pretty quickly, about 15 minutes and the restaurant was approximately 1/2 full at the time. The udon soup was good, the noodles were a nice size and had a good texture and the soup was flavourful but not too salty. The bentos were also good, especially the sushi which had high quality raw fish however aside from this the bento did not come with rice. Also, since it was a mixture of multiple smaller things it wasn’t as satisfying as a single main meal. Overall the quality of the food was good and tasty but potentially a little overpriced as each dish cost about $25-30 except for the udon. If I could rate half stars I would have given a 3.5. Would return, but not my first choice

Great experience for my first visit! We ordered one bento set and one unagi with rice which arrived fairly quickly and in generous portions. Food was yummy and the service was excellent. Will be back!

Been here a few times before & have enjoyed it for some nice Japanese food. We were in the area & wanted something a little lighter, so decided to have some sushi. Realised they join Zomato Gold, so it was a no brainer!<br/><br/>We were seated upstairs in a really nice decorated area, the staff there were attentive & were not pushy to get you to order straight away. So for the 3 of us, we decided on 2 plates of sushi & 2 plates of rice. <br/><br/>The grilled salmon inari & the grilled scallop, prawn roll was very nicely made (the scallop was very fresh & grilled to perfection), the unagi (eel) rice & chicken katsu curry rice was also very tasty (great for a winter's night).<br/><br/>After the meals we really wanted to try the desserts, but was too full this time. So next time we will come for less mains & more dessert.<br/><br/>Overall a 4.2/5, good Japanese style restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere, family friendly and great desserts👍

Why can't order Bento if using Zomato ?<br/>Not much things to order as the Bento set has opt out if using Zomato.<br/>Well, restaurant is nice and clean.
Lil’MissNyonya
Love the food here. They were very busy today so service was a little slow....but food was excellently cooked as always. Portions wise, they seem to be slightly lesser than our last visit. Nevertheless, we do enjoy our meals here.

I was hoping to use my Zomato gold but there’s too<br/>many exclusions, that it’s almost not worth it.
Desmond Lee
Overall, items on the menu are generally more pricy than any average Japanese restaurants. Curry wagyu don is $25 by itself, but it taste no different than normal beef. I really wouldn’t recommend it based on the price. It still taste good as a curry don but just not worth it. Matcha items are all fantastic, highly recommend to hav deserts or matcha latte here if you are a matcha fan.
Kelvin Ong
The Zomato Gold offer experience was not very pleasant. We were left confused and as there were so many exclusions, the staff were not very sure themselves. We were left to feel as though we were bargain shoppers after more than 30 min of to-and-fro queries. Lastly, at payment checkout, the Zomato gold offer was calculated different to what was explained, we had to spend another 15 min for the staff to recalculate the bill and that we were charged 70 cents more than the bill. I did not make any fuss, I just hope that it was just a human error and not to penalise us for being a Zomato gold member or just another bargain hunter. My tip for Kyoto cafe is that if you make the experience so complicated, please do not go on board Zomato Gold! Thanks
James B
Went here for 1st time with Zomato gold and it was a pleasant experience overall. With 1+1 offer, you just cannot order both bento boxes/sushi sashimi. We ended up ordered salmon bento box and wagyu beef curry. The diced beef were tender and the curry sauce is just right.
Bob Siow
Friendly staff, nice environment with a good variety. The katsu don is delicious . The portion on Salmon is slightly small but overall a nice restaurant to visit. Revisited the place for lunch. The bento was good and the Karaage. The Yakisoba is cooked slightly different from the authentic one; a bit wet and the noodles without the charred taste.

Went to Kyoto Cafe with my son at 3PM. Unfortunately, bento meals only serve during lunch time and after 5pm. :-(<br/><br/>I had spicy wagyu don $15.80 and my son had chicken katsu curry $15. We also ordered the matcha tea set. We love the food and friendly service.<br/>

I’ve always been a fan of Kyoto Cafe when it came to desserts! <br/><br/>But today I decided to try out its lunch menu and unfortunately I was hugely disappointed. <br/><br/>Spicy Teriyaki Fried Chicken Bento $27 (1.5/5)<br/>- presentation was adorable but the taste of the food was less than mediocre. <br/>- Fried chicken is not spicy, instead it was very sweet.<br/>- Sushi was basically 98% rice and 2% fish. <br/>* weird sauce combination was on one of sushi (distasteful)<br/>- Chawan mushi was very bland, I used soy sauce from the sushi to add more flavor. <br/>- Tempura was not bad but it still wasn’t good enough to excite my tastebuds. <br/><br/>Unagi Jyubako with salad $25.30 (2/5)<br/>- cute presentation <br/>- didn’t taste grilled and crispy <br/>- tasted mushy and reheated <br/>- salad had a nice dressing <br/><br/><br/>Service (+1) was good and dessert is always a pleasure but I will never come back for the mains.

Cosy Japanese restaurant, great for catch up on a weekday. Great selection of affordable bento set to choose from. I got the pork katsu set which came with a variety of crumbled pork, sushi, chawan mushi, tempura, and salad. It was well worth it and tasted great! We all enjoyed our meals and would definitely be back

First time dinning here. Friendly staffs and great food. Unagi jyubako is very delicious. Suitable for dating and family dinner. Recommended

Bit disappointed when the waiter told us that bento box, sashimi and specials does not apply to Zomato gold. <br/>Otherwise service was good but portion was small on mains

While I used to be a fan of this place, things have since changed resulting in a lower score. Service was almost non existent when we visited at lunchtime on a Saturday. Granted it was the weekend but the place was clearly under staffed. The poor workers were rushing around looking overwhelmed. And it looked like a miniaturisation ray had hit the food as the serving sizes seemed smaller than previously. It's a shame our previous visit could not be replicated today. <br/><br/>Previously:<br/><br/>We were looking for something different for lunch at Eastland and stumbled upon this little restaurant that produces works of art! The bento boxes look, smell and taste amazing.....they may be a little pricey but I think they are worth every cent. The service was good and our meals came out quickly. Here's to Kyoto cafe!

Service was great, we had a great lunch experience as the staffs were quite friendly. The Octopus deep fry was amazing, but Mapo Tofu was a little bit too sweet and not spicy.

Delighted that Kyoto Cafe is a participant of inaugural Zomato Gold.Headed there immediately for lunch. Was initially worried that staff may not be familiar since Zomato Gold just started this afternoon. What a great experience as we were warmly welcomed by the friendly and knowledgeable lady manager. I was their 1st Zomato Gold customer too.Food taste and presentation is fabulous. Generous servings to fill our satisfied tummies. Will be back very soon.Thank you.

The Japanese food at Kyoto Cafe is not bad, with many different Japanese dishes to choose from. I always stick with the sushi options but the other dishes do look good as well.<br/><br/>They have a display of the sweets at the front, but I don’t think they taste as good as the food on the menu.
Laphang
Unagi Don was fresh and yummy and the Ramen was deliciously done. Don't forget their cakes to round off a good Japanese dining experience. Prices are reasonable and this restaurant is run by Japanese!

Kyoto Cafe is one of my favourite restaurants to go to in Eastland. I had the chicken katsu curry and it did not disappoint at all. The curry was flavourful without it being too spicy. The breaded chicken katsu was tender and crispy! ✨ the salad was very refreshing. For $17 it’s a very filling meal and value for money ☺️ <br/>

We decided to head to Kyoto Cafe for lunch the other day. It’s a cute shop conveniently located in Eastland.<br/><br/>We had the Unagi Don and the Chicken Katsu Curry, as well as the Vegetable Croquettes. The unagi itself was delicious - very soft, fatty and melt-in-your-mouth. However we would’ve liked if there was more sauce on the rice. The curry was flavourful and had a variety of vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and capsicum which you don’t usually see in Japanese curries. The croquettes were great - crispy and soft - you can’t go wrong with it.<br/><br/>Would recommend giving this place a go if you’re at Eastland!

Loved having lunch here. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Interior was nice, clean and modern. <br/>Food was delicious and I would recommend this place!

got the salmon sushi poke bowl! i’ve gotten this twice, and i got them to cook the salmon for me the second time round- they were very accommodating! lovely atmosphere, would recommend.

Wife and I had lunch at this establishment on a Saturday. Was busy without being a crush. Was given a place at the bar looking into the open kitchen and thought this would be great, except we were right in front of the washing up sink and every now and then there was a really bad smell which washed over us which was very unpleasant and spoiled the meal. I think the cleanliness of the kitchen was very subpar for a Japanese restaurant which are traditionally known for their spotless, well ordered kitchens. This is especially true if the customers can see right inside.<br/><br/>The food was ok. I had the salmon bento and my wife had a plate of salmon nigiri and a plate of fried chicken. Not the best Japanese food I’ve ever had, but better than some of the faux Japanese you can find around.<br/><br/>Maybe the dinner menu is better, not sure. Can’t say if I’ll be back or not.... maybe.

Came in about 7:45 on a Wednesday night. It was quiet and lots of empty tables so my friend and I found a table and sat down. No one told us where to sit so we assumed it was okay. After we’d settled, a waitress comes up to us and tells us we can’t sit there and we have to move. She shows us to a table that’s still dirty and tells us to stand by the door and wait for her to clean it. <br/><br/>Service throughout the night was borderline rude. The waitresses were inattentive and looked unhappy. <br/><br/>Food was average, nothing special but not bad but slightly overpriced in my opinion. <br/><br/>Probably wouldn’t come back.

This place is always so busy and hard to get in! That’s because this place does amazing food! I really enjoyed the ramen I had, the flavours were very subtle in the broth but had the right amount of noodles to meat ratio. I also got to enjoy the baos but felt that the mustard that was in it was overpowering. The presentation of the food was beautiful and the staff are so lovely and attentive to your needs! Overall one of the better restaurants in the town square in Eastland.

We came here for lunch on a beautiful autumn day and the outdoor eating area was very nice. However, other than the nice outdoor setting, the food was mediocre at best, not authentic Japanese food. The Karaage was clearly frozen before it was cooked, the sushi was not fresh and the service was very lacking as they were under staffed. For the fine dining pricing of the dishes on the menu, there are much better Japanese restaurants in Melbourne. Don't waste your time or your money.

Food can be hit & miss so lacking consistency, service also hit & miss can be clumsy, I have had quite a few mistakes or misses in my orders......bit expensive for what they offer so we don’t visit as much as we would have otherwise. Also we love our sushi & sashimi so menu lacks variety in this area, very limited in fact....nice bento though but would be nice to have more variation in the bento options or changing menu can be more inspiring!

Poor customer service, wait for at least 20 mins nobody picks up us, nobody even shows us the menu, they are not lacking of waitress but it seems that they are not all working, most tables that customers left were not cleaned immediately.

Very polite waitress and good table service. Food is high standard. I used to order dragon sushi which is delicious but no longer in menu. The new grilled salmon sushi is a thumbs up! Their Japanese crepe version is great too.
