Review Hitoshi Sushi - Ringwood

Joyce K
Lovely family owned Japanese restaurant and takeaway sushi. Very fresh and delicious sashimi and sushi. Love the big variety of bento boxes to choose from. My favourite is the tempura, sashimi and unagi rice box. Friendly staff and fast service! They also sell some Japanese grocery!

Absolutely delicious sushi rolls! Way better flavour than chain store sushi. Not the cheapest in town but I think it is definitely worth the value for fresh ingredients and the extra care that goes into the process

We used to order here every week, but the prices have just gone up and up and up in such rapid succession. This is unfortunately no longer a viable sushi joint for my friends and myself. It's easy enough to find decent sushi now, but I definitely miss what Hitoshi Sushi once was.

We ordered ubereats from Hitoshi Sushi as I was craving for ramen and my two friends ordered separate bentos. This is my first experience with their store. First of all, we were very impressed with the variety of choices on the menu! But next, we were astounded by the portions! I definitely wasn’t expecting that many chicken strips on my ramen. I was also very happy to see lots of vegetables in my ramen (I know it’s not common) but I wanted a balanced meal so it was perfect! Needless to say, there were lots of leftovers for the next day. We are also very grateful for the 2 free Softdrinks they gave us. Thank you very much Hitoshi Sushi! You made our takeaway dinner (and next day’s lunch) very special and we will definitely come back for more! Review by @walksofliv

The place is another not fussed asian restaurant, designed to simply feed you. Well they succeeded, the food was better than expected while being good value for money, place was clean, service was efficient.

I stumbled across this place a few weeks ago and I'm hooked. Firstly, they serve the most generous size sushi I've ever seen. It's sooooo fresh because the turnover of food is fast and furious. You can dine in or takeaway. If they don't have what you want - just wait because they'll make it - quickly! All tables have chopsticks, soy sauce and napkins + newspapers so you can have a read while you eat. Centrallly located in Ringwood away from the hustle and bustle of Eastland, this is a must visit place. I even bought extras to take to work the following day. Toilets are available inside the shopping complex. Lots of parking available.

Despite their sushi rolls looking not as tight and "perfect" like the other competitors, the reason is because they are very generous with their ingredients. Salmon sushi roll always has big slices of fresh salmon, big pieces of teriyaki chicken and crunchy outside too. This place would have to be the best for what you pay for. If you're looking for variety then expect to pay more at the other stores located in shopping centres etc..

Went there for dinner last night. Great bento boxes, LOTS of take away flying out the door, good fresh turnover. We’ve been visiting this place for like 15 years and it is always exactly the same quality. Good prices too. Owners are nice and friendly too. Support local businesses!

We have been eating here for quite a few years and have always found the staff helpful and happy. The tasty food is always served at the correct temperature. The restaurant/ Cafe is BYO at a small charge. Bento Boxes range from $ 11.00 - $14.00.

Visited for an early lunch & shall never return. Staff were beyond rude. Food very average, but it was the attitude of 2 staff members that was so disappointing. Will not return & I could of become a "regular" client.

Beautiful food and beautiful people. Absolutely love this place. Will travel across Victoria to enjoy the atmosphere. Highly recommended

If I could give NO stars I would. Have tried 3 times now as everyone recommended this place. Yesterday was the 3rd & final strike out. APPALLING SERVICE. Abrupt & rude staff. Being in customer service for over 30 years I was totally shocked Food nothing special:( DO. NOT. BOTHER.

Has great food, good service and value for money.

I ordered a chirashi rice bowl, deluxe sushi A and deluxe sushi B (takeaway). I was hoping to support my local Japanese restaurant however I was left disappointed as the raw fish (salmon and tuna) in the chirashi bowl was mushy. Felt like it was left out for all day. I did not feel very good after eating the half the bowl and I ended up throwing the rest in the bin.

I am leaving this review not to tarnish the business name but I am hoping that the business owner are aware of the quality of their food.

Well it’s been literally three years since my initial visit and times have certainly changed. I don’t believe the all you can eat delight has run for some time and corona inflation has well and truly hit. I paid $4.20 per sushi roll which frankly I found extortionate. I understand the pressures on small business (hence why we were trying to support by spontaneously picking up takeaway as we walked past) but you can’t really raise your prices that significantly without isolating customers.

Original review
What a place. I'd been once before and it's just your standard sushi place but recently I went to the all you can eat which is Friday to Sunday 6-8pm and my mind was blown. For $34.90 I easily ate that much worth of just sashimi alone. The variety was exceptional as it includes lots of hot food items as well as varies sushi options. You finish with your choice of delicious sorbet. Just some of the things you can order on one side of the menu below. Absolutely fantastically fresh and delicious and they are accommodating to menu tweaks. I've already told all my friends to get down there

I couldn’t believe the customer service that this place offered. It was my first time here and i received the BEST service to date. Was nicely greeted by the lovely lady at the front, who was very patient as my partner and I decided what we wanted.
After purchasing some takeaway sushi packs, i had accidentally dropped one on the ground and it went everywhere. The lady was so nice. She told
me not to worry and didn’t let me assist her in cleaning up. I wanted to purchase another pack but she told the chef to make me a brand new one without any charge. Who does that ? 😭 The food was decent for the price and i enjoyed it. The serving portion was good and filling.

Got uber eats sushi from here delivered. Sushi here was ok but not amazing, I wouldn't go out of my way to get it but ok if in the area or if delivered.
Eating With Ebony
This sushi place sells a variety of things. But as soon as I walked into the shop I saw the biggest sushi rolls I have ever seen in my life & they are pretty cheap as well.

I got Bento Box C for lunch which Bento had beef on rice, spring rolls, tempura vegetable, sushi & teriyaki chicken.
First of all this only cost me $14. The portion sizes were enormous! The beef on the rice & tempura vegetables were my favourite.

The service was really friendly & the food came out really fast as well.

The most innocuous places can sometimes be the most amazing. That’s the case with Hitoshi Sushi. I’ve been coming here for a while and today had to snap a few pics while I ordered my teriyaki chicken plus a tuna sushi. $2.90 each and they are enormous.
I’ve also eaten in and tried the beef yaki udon which was excellent - lots of good flavours.
Located between the Aldi and the main entrance to this small shopping complex.
They also sell refreshments plus coffee.
Staff are great. The aromas from the kitchen are mouth watering.
Note: wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good carparking.
I will return.
🍲🍴 d e b i 🥤🍱

I use to have nori roll often while ago and nori roll was ok but I recently went back and had nori roll. The filling was still generous amount but rice was very bad. It was very dry and broken. I think it need to be improve.

Went there and had a gyu don. The appearance is really great, i was so excited when the dish came. However when i tasted it, it was bland. It has a lot of sauce yet it was bland. I guess the portion was generous. Place was dark and looked a bit unkempt. Staff is pretty friendly.
Priscilla
Quick service and large portions for a good price. Ordered the kara age don, Bento Box J which came with teriyaki beef, teriyaki chicken, yakitori, and spring rolls. We also ordered gyoza and tatsuta age.

The style of cooking was more similar to Chinese food as the gyoza skin was quite thick and the teriyaki sauce was quite oily. Taste-wise the tatsuta age was quite bland, although mayo is provided. The teriyaki sauce was quite nice. Overall, a good place to visit if you're hungry and in a hurry,

The good:
+ Large portion sizes
+ Cheap for the size
+ Gyoza
+ Teriyaki sauce

The bad;
- Oily food
- Tatsuta age

My local go to for decent Japanese food that isn’t too pricey! Quick service with food and takeaway/Ubereats is just as good!! Food portion for what you pay is good value for money!!
MF
The bento in this place was huge, taste wise was just okay, but sadly the rice was very small portion and it was under the beef teriyaki with loads of sauce so it soaked all the sauce and became more like a gravy rice and wayy to sweet for my liking.
I guess people come to this place for quantity not quality.
Service by the young waitress was rude and arrogant, had a bit altercation with my sis as my sis said she was ignorant and rude, which i didnt know about until my sis came back after ordering, but when she came and give me my bento, she didnt smile or say the type of bento that shes delivering (as we ordered two of dif one), i think its childish as im not the one who had altercation with her, the older lady was more friendly but a bit annoyed when i asked for 2 take away container.
Overall nothing special with their food, and bad service, we wont go back.

Ordered takeaway bento boxes at this place and they were not fresh and unauthentic.. whole family fell sick after eating the food from here...won't be going to this place ever again.

Went for lunch on Saturday, and felt very full as the portion of the vendor box is quite big. The food tastes alright but can add more vegetables into it.
Vicky Cheung
I came with my husband. Quite good food quality. It is much higher than my expectation. Sushi and sashimi are very fresh. The sashimi are sliced in large and thick pieces, this is very impressive because for most of the all you can eat buffet they just cut in small pieces. Comparing other all you can eat, it has less variety, but the food quality are really good. I definitely will come back next time. Overall, we are very satisfy with the meal.

Went for dinner with the mrs last couple weeks ago. We had ordered Bento Box B, Yakitori Chicken Skewers and Kaisen No Salada which was a scallop and prawns in garlic with a small amount of salad. The Bento Box B was ok, portion size was good, flavourwise didn't taste very fresh, chicken skewers were delicious, really nice sauce and the Kaisen No Salada was ok, scallop and prawns were ok, just too much garlic. Overall average food, when paying they got the order wrong however they rectified in the end.
CherryT
All you can eat, sushi, Japanese food, fried vegetables, ect. Food is fresh, sushi is fine. Ice cream is nice, the price is affordable. I think I will come again.

The raw sashimi was terrible. Left a horrible taste in my mouth. And the food in general wasn't great. Wouldn't return any time soon........

If you're looking for great sushi, this is your place! It's the best sushi place in Ringwood in my opinion and I'd go out of my way just to get sushi from here. I'd definitely recommend!

Went to Hitoshi sushi last Sunday with my wife for lunch. Haven't been here before but the rating and review looks good.

We ordered 2 bentos, H and K. It might be just our luck, but right after the meal, my wife had Diarrhea, and went to toilet in the shopping cente next to Bunnings. I thought it was the changing weather that caused it. But soon after we get home, I had it too. It's been 2 days and I'm still under the weather.

We are extremely disappointed about this place and our experiences. This also tells us that Zomato ratings can be unreliable.

Recommend if you like to have nigiri and hot food at the same time. Went for the buffet here and was impressed with the quality and portion.

The variety of sushi is good, including my all time favourite shell fish and fish roe. Most importantly the filling and the sushi was made with good quality. The sashimi platter was also well presented, with a variety of tuna, salmon and white fish.

Hot food we had sukiyaki, vegetable tempura, takoyaki, yakitori chicken, gyoza, spring rolls, agedashi tofu and teriyaki steak.

All were made to order and served hot and taste good.

Service was very good as well, water was constantly refilled and although made to order, the food came relatively quickly.

All in all, recommend this place for its buffet!

Just have the all you can eat with my parents. The sushi is not as good as sushi chained stores, but the sashimi was superbly fresh. For around $35 per head (senior $20), you could have crispy fried scallops, shrimp, tender teriyaki beef steak and varieties of sushi, to be honest, it was slightly underpriced. Not bad for casual dinner.
Andrew
Super friendly customer service. Triple checked orders and made sure that certain ingredients we didn't want in the food were 100% not there. When they found out otherwise, the cook came to talk to us and reconcile other options for one of the components of the Bento box.

I personally tried a vegetarian curry don which was amazing. I really liked it, and for $11 it was probably the best money I spent on food for a while.

Nice place, good service and reasonably priced. Give it a go!
Hunger Pains
Decided to give this joint a crack tonight. And all I can say is I wish we didn't waste our time and money. Very cheap and nasty looking place with a ridiculous price tag for what is served. When you walk in it feels like a take away sushi shop, which it is. But they have tried to turn it into a restaurant and charging top dollar for take away quality food. There are stains all over the walls. The dishes they gave us were dirty and one still had an old piece of ginger stuck to it. The waitress was extremely loud and explained the process to us like we were kids about to get on a roller coaster at dreamworld. The all you can eat is ridiculous and most of the food was atrocious. Edamame came out refrigerated in a tiny bowl, asked for salt and apparently they don't have any. Miso soup was easily the worst tasting soup I've ever eaten. The "fried" rice was more of a gluggy risotto, so not sure what part of it was fried. Only one option for gyoza which was not mentioned on the menu and they turned out to be vegetarian, and not very nice at all. Clam, kingfish and tuna sashimi were definitely not fresh and horrible texture. You are given disposable chopsticks and the dessert is pre packaged sorbet and a disposable wooden stick to eat it with, another example of the take away feel, at least give me a spoon. But it wasn't all bad, the salmon sashimi was good and the beef teriyaki was delicious, however we will never return.
Amy
Going into this restaurant I was expecting good things because of the reviews. I left a bit disappointed because the food was pretty average. Sushi and sashimi was ok... not very fresh. The Unagi fried rice was nice but nothing you can't whip up yourself at home. Staff was not very attentive but nice enough. Very average joint

I'll start this review to say I have eaten takeaway here a few times, as it is a convenient stop if your shopping around there. The food is not terrible or amazing, just average. It is the service that has motivated me to write a review (which I don't do often) Every time I have ordered here, the staff are borderline rude, no smiles, and treat you like an inconvenience to them. Today I struggled into their store with my 2 small daughters in a trolley, ordered, and my total came to $22.60. I only had $20, so asked if I can use my card. The guy looks right at me and says sorry it's a $25 minimum, while my kids are starting to whinge (the poor things just want to eat!) Really??! I'm $2.40 short of the eftpos minimum and no one in there looks like they want to help me in any way. So I struggle back out leaving the sushi, and vowing never, ever to go back to that place again. The service has always been poor, but that was enough for me! If your looking for great sushi, go for a drive up to Great Ryrie St in Heathmont, stop at 'Simple Life' sushi cafe. The owner there makes sushi fresh, and always has a smile for you.

Used to come every week when I lived close by. I returned when we were passing by and its still really good. You can byo and have a great meal for 2 for under $30. Great bento boxes.

Salty and overly oily meal, making almost inedible. Felt disgusting for hours afterwards. Service was below average. Very disappointing. Will definitely NOT be back.

Consistently great sushi and sashimi at a good price. This is my go to local place to grab a quick lunch or dinner and I've never been disappointed in my many visits.

Chicken teriyarki ($2.40) – look at all that chicken overhang!! Delicious. And if you ask them to cut it into pieces it’s like you’re in a fancy restaurant...

Good food and great value. I had takeaway there on the weekend, a sashimi and sushi bento box and some handrolls. My daughter loved it! The food was fresh and tasty and the serving size was very generous compared to some Japanese places I know. It was great value for money. I find the staff helpful and friendly, my daughter have allergies and they gladly told me what is in the handrolls. Good suburban Japanese food. It is not the best Japanese food I have had, and not the worst. It is good to have a reasonably priced and good tasting Japanese restaurant in Ringwood. I feel it is good value and good food.

Appalling food. Was driving through Ringwood and decided to stop for some food. Ordered a teriyaki chicken Don and one bento box. The food was disgusting. I couldn't eat the teriyaki chicken at all. The meat was fatty and obviously marinated with bicarb soda to soften the meat. The chicken appeared deep fried with some sauce poured on top. Small amount of chicken on top of a mountain of rice. Oily as hell. Worst dish, I couldn't get past two spoons. My partners bento box was Similar. The yakitori skewer appeared deep fried and then placed on the stick. He got through half the beef teriyaki which he said they must have confused with black bean sauce.
I complained about the food providing feedback which was received with a "oh I'm sorry, that's $27.50". I should have refused to pay. I've not been so disgusted on a while.
Barry
Same same but good food and lots of. Been coming here for over 15yrs and hasn't changed

Floor needs cleaning. Unfortunately the floor looked like it hadn't been swept/cleaned in a long time which was offputting. the sushi itself was not bad but when the floors are so dirty it makes you wonder what the standards of cleanliness are in the kitchen

Bryan. Found a piece of glass in the curry chicken don. Luckily I felt it before swallowing it. The most lucky thing is I didn't feed this to my son.
I showed this to the staff the other day to let them know. The short lady with a pony tail, who is probably one of the owner, turned into rage and yelled at me. She's saying I was not following the standard procedure. How would I know the standard procedure when you find a piece of glass in your food. I'm not anticipating such a thing in my food. And she's asking for receipt, but they have never ever given me a receipt at all since we started to buy takeaway from them 2 years ago.
I don't trust them anymore, especially the ridiculous attitude. If you have to buy something from them make sure you got the receipt.

Consistently great. Have been coming here for years always consistently good. Their sushi always amazing and a great size....their California roll uses real crab meat too...not crappy seafood extender. Love their friend rice and chicken yakitori....but get the sauce on the side. Bento boxes great value too. Thoroughly recommend cheap eats and good service!
Corina
Best place to get sushi from they twice as big sushi sushi and always fresh and they cheaper, we love this place and the staff is always friendly! Great place to go with the family.
Vincenzo
Just went got food from here first time. Looked good, open it up threw everything in the bin absolutely disgusting

Not Japanese. Rice meals like katsudon, gyudon lack that "Japanese" flavour. Sushi rolls are great though and the staff are friendly.
Elaura
Really nice food. Generous portion, great price and nice staff with quick service. Restaurant was a little dark but overall a nice experience for lunch :)
Alissa Andrea
Never had a bad meal here. Fantastic portion sizes and value for money. Absolutely love Hitoshi!
Aaron
Great value. Best value sushi rolls around. Bento boxes are great as well - HUGE amount of food.
There are a couple of not so great items on the menu, but do yourself a favour and try the chicken curry don.

I eat here 2-3 times a week for lunch and it rarely disappoints.
Sokleng Eang
I love the Bento Boxes! With 10 different bento boxes to choose from & all under $15, it's a winner. I'm a regular now
Noris Palmer
Really good. Went there today, got a huge bento box with a wide assortment of sushi and sashimi for $12. It's high quality, high quantity, fast and inexpensive. I don't know of value like this ANYWHERE else in Melbourne. Nice people too.

Their sushi rolls that you take away, whilst still good, are nothing special compared to their sit down menu items which are unreasonably good value.
Xiong_rose
Food's good and cheap. Happy about it. Service's nice too.

Great time !. Great food, great service and great sized meals. No way of going hungry I came home with lots of leftovers ! The staff were all really nice and helpful and meals were served fairly quickly. Cant really say a bad thing about this place. I will defiantly be going back
Alex Coath
Great Value and Food, REALLY. From the size of the sushi rolls and Inari in the shop front to the huge bento boxes at only $12, there is certainly no way you will go away hungry, like after some Asian style restauraunts. Yet despite this, the quality is not dimished, with plenty of meat and flavour in all the dishes and not cooked badly at all, except for the Honey soy pork, which was a little crumby and low quality. I would recommend anyone who avoids japanese on a 'its too expensive for what you get' grounds or any Bento Box enthusiast, as for 11-15 dollars you can get something that rivals 22-25 dollar bento boxes, available for takeaway and prepared in 10 minutes. Decor was a bit weird, they were playing nova but the staff were nice and I would come back here often, 90/100.
Stephanie Cheong
Terrible service. Rude and angry waitress. Unlike most people me and my friends had the unfortunate experience of being served by a really rude waitress and after 4 strikes I'm out. First was when I asked her if they had a dessert menu and she gave me a weird look and rolled her eyes at me and after attempting to explain a few times I gave up. Second was when she was handing our food to us, my friend reached out as she was passing her meal to her and the waitress immediately said "JUST WAIT" and shot my friend a dirty look. The last strike was when we were paying she said we had been charged a corkage fee for bringing outside drinks in which is fair enough if she told us in the beginning and not springing it on us when we asked for the bill. Fourth strike was she calculated our bill wrong and overcharged us which we didn't realise until we checked the bill. Overall she was rude and her attitude throughout the whole time she was serving us was bad- she was angry, annoyed and moody and gave us dirty looks especially when I questioned her about the total of our bill. We were considering coming back but after the terrible customer service, or lack thereof, it is safe to say that NONE of us will ever come back again. Cannot believe what people can pass off as customer service these days...
Melanie
Go for the Bento Box. The handrolls in the window are huge and taste great! (much bigger than Sushi-Sushi), and the Bento boxes are literally overflowing with goodies. The sashimi is fresh and delicious, I would recommend! Great prices as well.
Jrgnsn_tjf
Friendly staff, dirty table, and a tasteless katsu don featuring a pork chop you could throw straight through a brick wall made this meal both uninspiring yet practical, should a mallet be required at short notice. I don't know if the staff were friendly or not. It didn't matter because it simply didn't matter at all.
Roo
Loved it !. Staff were friendly, service was lightning fast.
All our meals arrived together, which is hard to do when 5 people order different things.

Bento boxes for 5 people, plus 3 serves Gyoza, (18 pieces), Drinks all around.
All for $100 !!!!.
Food was superb and BIG serves!!!!!!!!!
The guy on the register was surprised when I tipped them $20.

It is places like these that we need to help stay in business.
Foodlover12
Best bento boxes, we are here weekly, so cheap and so much food! The staff are so friendly and are happy to change things on the menu for you. Eat in or take away it's always the same quality!
Tim
Way better than anything else around. Staff are friendly, food is fresh, and service is fast. They use high quality trays for their Bento boxes & the serving sizes are generous. That's why I keep going back,
Peri Edmonds
Really Love getting the Bento Boxes at this place.
My favourite place to eat at the moment, the staff are really friendly and they will tailor, any food to your requests.
Good sized portions, I love japanese food and its really yummy and fresh.
Have not tried any of the hot dishes besides what is in the Bento Boxes because they are so good I have not wanted to deviate yet.
I can get dinner and a drink for under $15. I am a little MSG sensitive and have not had any probems yet.

Filling One of the most enjoyable meals in a long time

Fantastic. I have been eating there for year & love it, they cannot do enough for you & cook everything exactly as you request, the food is so yummy & fresh.
Maybel
Won't go back again!. The worst Japanese food that I ever had! It's not an authentic Japanese restaurant; it's a Cantonese + Japanese takeaway.
The bento sets are half Cantonese stir-fry and half Sashimi/Sushi. Food are too sweet and low quality. Poor presentation; a humiliation to Japanese cuisine.
Emmeline
Excellent bento, best I've found, great sushi handrolls, fresh, kid friendly but no HIGHCHAIRs, would be 100%perfect otherwise, byo
Nichole Murray
Good cheap Japanese food. Bento boxes under ten bucks. We can't believe how good this place is for the price. Sushi rolls fresh and yum!
Meals88
Awesome sushi rolls. Twice as big as the the ones you buy at sushi sushi or similar. They will even make to your request. I used to work close by and the only thing i miss about the atea is hitoshi sushi!

Easy eating, bento boxes are just right, nice staff as well. Great alternative for a quick meal with kids than fast food
