Review The Younger Brother Cafe - Ringwood

A B
My partner and I went to this cafe for brunch after seeing all the great reviews. Unfortunately the food nor the service met the expectations. It was a long wait for food. Although the setting was nice inside, it was filled with cooking oil fumes. I ordered the steak sandwich which came 10 mins after they served my partners. The steak was overcooked, and the sandwich was soaked in mayonnaise. Posting a photo of the food I ordered from the menu and what I got! My partner had the chilli scrambled eggs, which was quite tasty. So was the orange juice! Overall, not a great experience.

Pleasant service and quick to get a table - even on Mothers Day. Food (breakfast) was a little slow to come out, but when it did we really enjoyed it. Large coffees can be hit and miss in some places, and here was a hit. It's a local for us, so will definitely be back.

A quiet little cafe with polite staff. Great coffee. However, the service was unexpectedly slow. I was disappointed with the poached egg on the Eggs Benedict especially after all that wait...the eggs were overcooked, not runny at all.

Service was good but the milkshake size was very small and the Lemon tart not as fresh as it could have been. Second visit Food was good, serving sizes small but adequate, waffles was pretty rich could have used more cream/ice cream. Menu is a limited breakfast all day type range, the meals we ordered were tasty.

Covid check in experience was very easy and efficient with the QR code. You also order from the QR code, allowing for contactless ordering. Coffee was great. Big breakfast was quite generous with the portion size. Although on the salmon benedict, not enough salmon was provided. Customer service was good.

Fantastic little cafe located in the Far East. Serving up scrumptious food and bold coffee. Worth stopping by on a weekend ride through.

Love at first sip! So glad to find good quality coffee within the locality of my neighborhood. Perfect coffee to start the day. Highly recommended. Grab a coffee from here before you board the train at Ringwood East Station.

The food is average at most. They looked great, tasted all right but in my opinion, they weren't worth the price. I ordered The Younger Brother Bowl which contains coconut yoghurt and nuts and berries with granola and soy milk to drizzle on top. It's rather basic, nothing too special. It also took a while to come. I gave the review an extra star because of the waitress that served us. She was friendly and helpful!

This place is worth the drive! Staff were friendly. Food was yummilicious, had the best and fanciest avo smash! Coffee was great! Love the decor. And they sell cronuts. Those things are the bomb! Oh and baby and kid friendly too!

Yummm! Came in for Mother's Day, service was great, my mum was greeted with a flower from staff which was a lovely touch. The 3 of us ordered the Harrisa Eggs Benedict, which was probably the most delicious, fresh, tasty thing I've ever eaten. Food was warm, came out quickly. And my chai latte was beautiful! Will definitely be back to try everything else on the menu :D

My Family and I were at the younger brother for breakfast. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. Thnx.

Refreshing positive change for Ringwood East. Not the best of locations, but made up for by good coffe and friendly staff. I'll be back (not said in an Austrian accent!).

Excellent coffee, great food friendly staff what more do you need #myregular

Great coffee, amazing bacon and egg brioche and fancy donuts. It really is an inner city quality cafe in ringwood. Love this place.

Best breakfast burger I've had in years! YUM!! Definitely reccommened thank you!
Peter Tawfeek
Waited for almost an hour to get my order, shit service over all. How hard to get jam and toast.
Victoria Holmes
Coffee with insurance!!! Replaced my coffee that was dropped as I got into my car - free of charge!!

Love their coffee and the staff are so friendly. Great service.

Fantastic coffee, good service and atmosphere. I had the burger which was full of flavour with crispy potatoes. Will def be back Hard to find good coffee in Ringwood

Service is always amazing. Very accommodating for people with kids. Coffeefoodlove our local!
Janet Micallef
Poor service, was there for 35mins before I was offered the menu to order. My friend and I left ...

I got the breakfast burger here, whilst my fiance got poached eggs and other additions. Everything here was ok, but nothing memorable, and overall a bit average. They gotta get better bacon too or cut it thinner, we didn't like that part at all.
Daniel Jones
If I could rate less than 1 star I would, they charged me for extras I didn’t order and the food was up there with the worst I’ve had. The days are numbered on this business.

I have never written a review before but felt like I needed to after visiting this cafe. My husband and I were highly disappointed with the food. I had waffles that tasted like they came from a packet and were ready in very little to no time at all like they came straight out of a microwave. The staff were kind enough but seemed very unorganised. The coffee was ok but nothing special. Sadly I don’t think this place deserves the rating it has. The food is the most important part for me

My wife and I used to be regulars here when we first moved into the area 3 years ago. We loved the food, coffee and the service. Our most recent visit (this morning) however has left us quite disappointed. My wife loved their chai latte and ordered it again this morning only to be given a chai tea with no offer to make her what she wanted. The lady who served us says if she wanted a latte she should have ordered from the coffee menu (even though my wife actually ordered a chai latte). Upon inspection of the menu there wasn't even a chai latte option in the coffee menu anymore.<br/><br/>I ordered the Cilbir Eggs which I've loved since first coming to this cafe. It was usually served in a small ceramic bowl with the poached eggs smothered in a lovely tomato and capsicum relish and yoghurt with Turkish bread on the side. This time it came in a plate with the eggs in the middle of the plate, yoghurt already across the plate and the sauce/relish served in separate side sauce bowls. It didn't resemble what I ordered whatsoever.<br/><br/>Both my wife and I were left the unimpressed that we've both decided that we wouldn't be back which is a real shame. I don't know what's happened to this place...all I can guess is there's been a change in management. In any case, if the menu hasn't changed then the food should be the same and unfortunately did my wife and I that wasn't the case.

food quality was below average. The potato gems were especially really greasy. Coffee was okay. The waiter was a bit rude and quite inexperienced. The atmosphere was alright.
Adrienne Kher
Had the Cibur eggs, which was probably one of the worst dishes I’ve ever had. Service was also incredibly slow despite no customers in the cafe. Will not be back.

Delicious food and friendly service. Not super quick so had to wait a bit to get our food even though they were really quiet so not sure how it would be at busy times. But otherwise really good, love the lebanese sausage in the chilli eggs but bread is never enough (larger pieces would be better) and the waffles are amazing.
Thought For Food
Food is okay, a little overpriced. I had the muesli, which was dry and desperately needed more yoghurt to make it easier to get through. Service here isn't great, our waitress responded sarcastically when asked whether the breakfast burger had any nuts (my husband it allergic). We also arrived one day at 2.30 where we were told the kitchen was no longer doing food despite it closing at 3.30pm (we definitely wouldn't have stayed longer than 45 mins). Coffee is good however and a nice vibe inside.

The staff are so amiable and friendly. My poached egg was cooked perfectly. There are good options for vegetarians and the coffee is great. I took my dog and they were fine with us being outside; the waitress even recounted a funny story about another dog swooshing off orders another day. Overall, its a gem of a place and really worthwhile.
Broken Remedy
The service was terrible. Staff were chatting so intently that if I didn't take the initiative myself to go up to them to get my order taken, I would have waited ANOTHER 10 minutes for sure. The chef saw me waving my hand in the air TWICE and didn't bother to inform any staff member. I ordered the mushroom benedict, the harissa benedict and the avocado. Both the benedicts were tiny and not that great. However, the avocado was a generous portion and quite flavourful. The sides are very expensive, with bacon at $7 and 1/2 avocado at $5.50. Also, it felt like the lady who took my order was pressuring us to order coffee. Due to the poor service, I will not be returning.

I Love Food
Dined here on a cudo voucher, great value deal for breakfast for 2 with a drink. I ordered the chilli & cemen (chemen) scrambled eggs with a fresh OJ. Eggs were tasty & loved the flavour of the sucuk sausage. Very large serving, couldn't finish it. Service was friendly.

Waited 20 minutes for water, waited 45 mins for food, staff very unresponsive, extremely disappointing! Avoid this place if you are hungry and you value time!!!

Lovely place, staff friendly and fresh, modern look to the place. Had the Cilbir eggs with Turkish bread & sausage, was full of flavour and very filling. Would definitely return :) <br/><br/>- follow @abbeyexplores on IG for more foodie experiences & more! -

Definitely an underrated café in the outer East. They have some great coffee options from Veneziano, and single origin beans from Guest Roasters. I had the Burundi as an espresso, which tasted like a black forest cake. I love that they have Kombuchi on tap! Definitely a blessing after a few coffees.

Not to get confused with My Other Brother in Camberwell, The Younger brother is a small Cafe located South East Melbourne near Doncaster Shopping Centre. It has been around for about 2 years. Its a lovely cafe that is well decorated and has great menu options. I decided to have the Breakfast burger as it had everything i love, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Potato cake and BBQ Sauce and it was delicious. It was all cooked perfectly. Kim had the Black Rice Porridge and it was not too sweet and not too gluggy. Kim and Iris enjoyed the meals.

Had lunch here with my colleagues. Catered for a group of us, and allowed us to split the bill. Enjoyed the younger brother bowl consisting of coconut yoghurt, berries, and nuts which was yummy. They had the mushroom sandwich and chilli scrambled eggs which were good.

Younger brother is my local, good selection of food which actually changes more than once in a million years but it's crowning jewel is their outstanding coffee! they have a wide variety of origins and styles just don't ask for caramel in ur latté they might get offended lol
BubblePebble
Very convenient location, nice decor and friendly staff. The barista know his coffee quite well. This cafe cater for a small eater like me as well. Order mini Benedict and request poach egg to be replace with scramble egg, the staff just take the order with no fuss about it at all. Quite happy with service and the food will come back again with my fur baby next time

All three times I’ve been here, the owner (I’m assuming) has spent more time chatting to his staff and texting on his phone than actually attending to customers. Even when two ladies walked in the door he didn’t even bother to look up from his phone to great them. Food was ok, nothing special. Coffee is actually great here and the barista is friendly, but I’m just so put off by the service from the “owner”. Not sure I’ll be back in a hurry.
Melbrunchin
The younger brother is my cafe of choice when in Ringwood. Not a large menu but offers a good savoury/sweet ratio. I had the mushroom dish, I enjoyed it, including the brioche. I would have liked more of a halloumi presence. Good coffee and friendly staff also.
Gina
This place has amazing coffee and very good food.<br/>Staff are friendly and welcoming.<br/>It's a small little gem of a place.<br/>We have been back twice in the last two weeks.<br/>

Great food! Better than any other place I’ve been to in the area. Good for vegetarians. I went twice in the one week, lunch and then breakfast and wasn’t disappointed.

was really excited to try a new cafe for my birthday celebrations but was extremely disappointed when they could not accomodate for a nut allergy. The chef yelled out across the cafe from the kitchen "there are nuts everywhere back here". I hadnt ordered something with nuts so this laziness was a bit of a shock when i'm used to cafes being able to always accommodate. I ended up having to leave with out eating, I would seriously question there food handling if they can't avoid cross contamination for such a common allergy.
Jerome
Food is always great, service continues to get worse. Maybe if were more attentive to customers in general and not just your mates or busy chatting to other staff you would get a much better rating. Have been many times before but won't be back again.
Simon
Coffee is good, but food is just on average. Customers service is sth to be improve. I am guessing the cafe is newly open, waiters still learning how to corporate with each others as a team. Barista is good, he is on spot!
Crumbs Of A Foodie
A few weeks back we enjoyed our Saturday breakfast at The Younger Brother. Great service and a lovely atmosphere inside. We had the Breakfast burger and the Harissa Benedict. We thoroughly enjoyed both of the dishes. The Brioche bun on the breakfast burger was nice and soft. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly and went well with the house made BBQ sauce. The poached eggs were nice and runny with the Benedict. The Harissa Hollandaise and the apple sticks was a lovely combination. <br/>A great place to head into for a good coffee and a delicious meal.
Em
I came here for a quick brekkie and hot chocolate. The service is lovely, the baristas take time to have a quick chat with you if they're free.  Overall, it was a positive experience.

Family friendly cafe with great staff, delicious food with a changing seasonal menu. Coffee is always as requested and hits the spot! Evening event recently included wine, cheese tapas and charcuterie boards - keep it up guys! <br/>P.S. My son rates the bubbacinos 10/10 here too <br/>P.P.S. This waffle w berries & chocolate sauce was the bomb!

Had an absolutely delicious lunch here! I am a big food lover and the pulled beef brisket burger I can say was almost the best burger I've ever had although it was a touch on the oily side the taste definitely made up for that!<br/>My partner had the falafel burger and I don't even like falafels and enjoyed the bite I had.<br/>Lovely freshly squeezed orange juice too! Only given 4.5 as I cannot comment on the coffee as we didn't have one.
Lily
The food here was absolutely delicious, would definitely eat here again. On the coffee side of things, 👌 perfect! Loved it! Next time I'd love to try the panna cotta. The only I reason I didn't give it a 5 is because I found some of the crowd to be very hipster and inconsiderate or maybe just aloof and gave no f*** about others. But the staff were lovely!<br/><br/>Had to edit, got a large take away cap for $4.50 and it’s the size of a small and the barista didn’t even fill it to the top. Not cool guys... I have tiny little hands so I hope you can tell how small the cup is... Coffee is still top notch though 👌
Natalie
Had a lovely Mother's Day breakfast here this morning. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive, and the food was delicious! They even gave mum a rose .

Really lovely atmosphere and great food! We came here on Mother's Day so were not expecting and table at all. We were quickly seated and attended to by wait staff with water and menus. I ordered the menemen eggs with sucuk on the side... it was soooo exciting to find a nice cafe in the eastern suburbs that served sucuk and not bacon all over everything! The coffee was also amazing and well worth the trip down the road. Will definitely be back to sample the rest of the menu.
Gina
Great coffee and good staff. Our food was a bit cold but they reheated for us.<br/>Will come back even if it's just for the excellent coffee. <br/>Tried to call them a week later to make a booking but the phone just rang out which was s shame.

It was overall an utterly flawless and scrumptious meal. From the simple espresso to the interesting food that carries a slight Mediterranean twist, incredible care was taken to deliver simply the best in taste. This was undoubtedly the most well-executed and tasty brunch experience I’ve had yet.<br/>In opening The Younger Brother, owner Akin aimed to educate Melbourne’s East side to develop a more cultured, refined and diverse coffee experience. However, he has achieved so much more, and I’d argue he has done what many city cafes have failed to, in delivering interesting, unique and quality food and drinks.
Hungry Panda
Decided to try out this place close to home. It was very interesting with all the spices used in middle eastern cooking - not your typical brunch place. I ordered the scrambled eggs and was quite confused when it came out. The eggs looked like minced meat as they had been scrambled to the point of almost mush. Although the flavour was nice, it became very hard to eat as I felt like I was eating baby food. I loved the Turkish bread though, very fresh, crispy and flavoursome, although it was not quite good enough to redeem the whole meal. Prices are also a little bit higher than what you'd expect for a suburban cafe.
Rachael Hunt
Went there instead of the usual favourite cafe for a coffee and some brunch. Both coffees were burnt & the food proportions weren't generous unless you eat minimally.
Un Caffe Latte
We've had our ups and downs here but they certainly seem to be finding their feet quite well. Love having so many good places opening locally and will continue encouraging them with our support for as long as they keep producing good food and good coffee.

We've been here a few times now. This place finally brings the inner city cafe quality to the Eastern Suburbs (and it's notoriously bad food). I'd definately recommend this place to everyone.
Nical1979
Been to this place several times now. Always impressed with the coffee, food was excellent two out of three times (the third time it just wasn't my kind of meal). Not huge place, but a pleasant modern cafe to hang out on your own or meet someone for brunch.

A fairly trendy little café in the main street of East Ringwood. Upon arrival I was welcomed and attended to immediately, and provided a carafe of water. The décor features a faux distressed concrete wall, and modern table settings in timber with moulded plastic chairs. Suspended downlights from the exposed ceiling batts add to the atmosphere. There are a few kerbside tables for outside dining. The menu included a limited number of vegetarian options, such as smashed avo and pea, and falafels. I opted for the fruit toast, which comprised a generous 3 slices, although it wasn’t the best fruit toast I have had. The coffee was quite good though. A few more vegetarian/vegan menu options would have earned some extra points.<br/> <br/>......  June 2018   .......<br/>I am compelled to increase my rating after my most recent visit. Since last time they have added vegan items to the menu, including house-made vegan pizza slices, which I enjoyed. The coffee was also very good.

The Younger Brother is the new kid on the block in Ringwood. This cute little café has plenty of charm, an exciting menu, and an inner-city buzz to it. As an eastern suburbian, I am pretty happy to see this new addition stepping up the café game. I stopped by on the AFL Grand Final public holiday to grab some coffee and brunch, with my partner in tow. For those of you out of towners, YES – Victorians get a day off to celebrate the football. For a football non-enthusiast like me, it’s the best time to try a new restaurant or café.

Went here for the first time today, and came away very impressed! My cappucino was devine, and we tried the veggie burger and the avo & pea smash. Like many items on the menu, these had a middle eastern influence with labna, ajvar and za'atar. The flavours were outstanding. Service was excellent too. Another cafe makes my list of 'regulars'!

Excellent coffee, warm and welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, great location. Only ordered the ham and cheese croissant and the almond croissant. We also loved the cutlery as a bonus.

I opted for the ‘Poppyseed and Ricotta Hot Cakes – double cream, pistachio crumb, berry compote with an orange, mint, and rosewater syrup ($17.50)’. This dish was just too pretty to eat but of course I did… The hotcake was fluffy and the combination of toppings with the exotic syrup tasted divine.

So excited about this little gem popping up in the area. The coffee☕️ is Amazzzzzing ......so creamy , smooth like violet. Consistently beautiful every visit. Food yet to be tasted 😋 and to top it off, happy and friendly staff😀
Charlie Bean
Love it! Coffee is good. Menu is short and a little adventurous, which I love, but very clever and I think there's something for everyone. I had the Ricotta and Poppy Seed Hot Cake which was so pretty on the plate and yum!! Husband had the Birds Nest which was very tasty and so much better than it looked. Portions were a little on the small side but that's the only negative'ish thing I can say. The shop fit out is modern and cool and staff were friendly too. Great experience, will be back!
BH
Great little modern cafe, staff are very friendly. Breakfast range is a bit limited however is really unique, well presented and not to mention very tasty! <br/>Fantastic coffee too!

Attentive staff, great coffee and delicious food. Staff were really good with the kids. I had the Lamb Kadayif. Would definitely have it again. The kids had the waffles which they gobbled up. We will be back.

Great middle eastern twist on modern favourites. Food and coffee above average. Attentive staff without going over board. Comfortable decor make this a relaxing cafe for breakfast or lunch.
Lena
This is a really lovely little Cafe! <br/>Coffee was well made, pulled lamb burger was amazing. <br/>My only complaint is the music! The music didn't match the ambience and aesthetic of this cafe at all! <br/>But putting that aside, will be back :)
Zoe
Been here a few times now. Nice to have a local that's inner city cafe style. Service was attentive, food was great. The owner knows his coffee that's for sure.

I chose this cafe as its recently opened, and had not been previously reviewed, so my experience would be completely free from any preconceived notions.<br/>The interior design wasn't overcrowded, despite it only being a small cafe so in fact most likely looked bigger than it was from the well planned spacing of the tables. It didn't seem quite finished though as a portion had white panelling and the remaining ceiling / walls were the industrial grey with exposed cabling. Loved the lighting fixtures though.<br/>My friend and I arrived for breakfast around 7:30am on a Tuesday morning and initially we had the place to ourselves being t<br/>he only patrons at that point. By the time we left there were three additional single patrons.<br/>There were three staff on at that time and another began at 8am which seemed a bit much as they appeared to be standing around looking for something to tidy or straighten but everything was already nicely organised.<br/>The staff were friendly, and quite energetic for that time of morning which I liked.<br/>The menu was quite limited in my opinion, and the first thing I noticed missing which I've always assumed is a staple side to any breakfast menu was mushrooms. I love my mushrooms!!<br/>Having said that, there was a side I have never heard of before and actually had to google being unsure of even its pronunciation - Ajvar - so I gave it a go and forgot about my missing mushies.<br/>I actually enjoyed it, spreading it on my toast with my poached egg on top. I would go back again just for that as it was very tasty and would recommend anyone considering eating here to try it.<br/><br/><br/>
