Review The Coach - Ringwood

Russell Griffiths
We ordered on a Sunday evening via Uber eats. Delivery was quick and on time. But the food was poor. The Mexican Parma was not cooked properly, had blood in it. The egg on the Nasi Goreng was black on the bottom and like rubber. Will not be eating there again!!

Very pleasantly surprised with the Coach. We haven’t been there for years. It’s certainly had a “makeover” since then. Very bright open areas ( lounge/bistro Etc) Good menu, with plenty of variety on offer. We had the Atlantic Salmon and “roast of the day”. Both very enjoyable. Will definitely be returning soon.

Visited to find a venue suitable for our family function. Looks great with good seating but not overcrowded. A variety of beers on tap and a good wine list. Haven't had a meal yet so 4 stars.
Cally
Six people dined in our group tonight and 2 ordered the Gnocchi, both commented the gnocchi was like rubber bullets. My husband said it was one of the worst meals he had eaten while dining out. All other meals were fine. Usually the meals here are above average, but for some..not tonight

Only giving a 5 for 2 reasons. 1 to hopefully get a response, 2 owning a business I understand how important ratings are but seriously? In 2022 we had to get a Uber from Your pub to another for the simple fact you don’t have fox footy? What kind of pub doesn’t have fox footy It’s actually a elite establishment now. Staff were great But how in gods name don’t you have fox sports Seriously … work it out

Modern venue and nice environment to be in, well lit and the food was fantastic! The kids loved the play area also and staff were friendly - highly recommended..
Gareth Dennis
Really nice looking venue with friendly staff. Food was OK for the price. Had a Swiss Parma. The Parma was good but there was a lack of cheese and mushroom sauce.on it. The chips where good.
RS Sazegar
The food is reasonably priced, lots of space to spread out, kids love the playground though some parents need to be told theyre 12 yos are too old to use it. Stàff were quite rude at our last visit as we had some little kids that were just learning to walk ( may be an isolated issue) most of the meals came of on time, 1 meal was forgotten about. Maybe they were busy and understaffed that night. When we go out as a family of 20, it can be hard to find restaraunts that can comfortably cater to big groups

I went there with Mandy for Lunch this afternoon and we both had the Chicken Parmigiana but I had a Lemonade with Raspberry Lemonade to drink and she had and a water to drink. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. Maria thought the cheese was off on the Chicken Parmigiana because it made me sick.

Enjoyed a Parma with added aioli - my first since COVID changed our lives. It was quite nice with a really strong garlic aioli that I loved.<br/><br/>Due to COVID, there was ample spacing between tables, which were cleared quickly and sanitised once patrons departed. Hand sanitiser stations were available throughout the bistro area. <br/><br/>Ordering was touch-free through QR code ordering/paying through your phone, with menu items being easily customisable. Wait staff were also available to assist those having trouble ordering and the option to order normally through them was there for those who chose to do so. Service was quick and start friendly.

We decided to try the Coach after recent refurbishments. This us definetly our new local! Food and staff were amazing - kids play area (although small) was great and you easily accessible.<br/>I had the Scotch fillet with mash, coleslaw and mushroom sauce - cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth. Hubby had the Coach Burger and could not fault it. Kids had the usual, nuggets & chips.<br/>Even the coffee was great! <br/>We will be back soon A++++

Lovely dinner and starters began with great customer service and friendly staff who served us quickly and were on time with the meals!<br/><br/>The Lemon Pepper Calimari starter was great, followed by the Honey Beef and Cashew Stirfry, with thick and tasty steak, lovely sauce and noodles. <br/><br/>And the Nasi Goreng that I chose was full of flavor, and well balanced. I really enjoyed the tender Chicken with Prawns, it was a certainly a great meal in a comfortable setting.

Me and some boys came her for some parmas. Few Pepsi’s went down that’s for sure. Carl got a dessert after dinner and also ordered garlic bread for the table before dinner.
Kylie Mc
All the parmas that my group ordered went down a treat, fantastic crumb & the toppings were to die for.<br/><br/>The staff were very attentive to our needs, very polite. <br/><br/>Nothing to complain about. We will definitely be back again.

First time I have dined at The Coach usually just go their to play the machines. The food was terrible. The roast I managed to get through the hard potatoes which were boiled I am sure and not roasted. The greens I couldnt cut let a lone chew. I wont be eating their again.
Emma Juniper
Reading these reviews I was super sceptical to be honest, but we've just had a delightful night at The coach. Staff were super attentive and helpful, food was pretty awesome, kids ate all their food, and given it was steak night (yum!) price was totally reasonable. We will be back!

After the renovations, I would have thought the place would have served some good (nothing fancy) pub grub.<br/><br/>All 3 dishes we ordered were terrible, unfortunately!!! Which is a shame as I was hoping my local I could take people back to. Really average food, sorry to say.
Andrew
Didn't have anything to eat but that was the first time I have ever paid $15 for a pint of beer.. If you don't make the drinks reasonable it won't work
LoveEatLoveCook
Recently completed renovation, place was very bright and clean. Food were excellent, we ordered steaks and they came out really well executed medium rare. Service were nice and prompt. Great place with kids as the kids play area was right next to meals area.

Thank you for a great dinner experience! The food was absolutely delicious (literally the best chicken parmigiana I have ever had), servings were incredibly generous, and very affordable prices. The service was friendly and quick. Good vibes, lovely for date night. Would recommend!

Came here last night with a group of friends, central for everyone. The food was absolutely terrible! I ordered for the table a garlic cheese pizza, it had so much tasty cheese on it you could gag on it, the garlic was raw because it was drowned in cheese it couldn't cook! The wedges, such a simple dish were not even cooked to a crisp, soggy and half cold. The arancini were so gross! No flavour, no cheese inside just a slab literally on top, the sauce is supposed to be inside the balls. The Greek salad, full of water, soggy lettuce, some of lettuce was brown on the ends, that's acceptable at home but not when your out paying money for someone to chop it, wash it and serve it to you! Will never return, it used to be so much better.

Had lunch on a Monday. <br/><br/>Staff were friendly and attentive. <br/><br/>Was impressed with food. Looked great, tasted great too. My filo chicken could have been a bit hotter. <br/><br/>Will definitely go back.

Made the mistake of booking last night for Fathers Day. I forgot to check the place out here first before I booked and now deeply regret it. We arrived, signed ourselves in as there wasn't anyone around. Waited to be seated for 5 minutes before we sat ourselves at one of the only tables cleaned with a view of the kids play area. (Still haven't noticed a staff member yet) I went and got menus and then went to order the food, didn't have the kids burger or Asparagus which came with the Salmon my partner ordered and my beans as a side for my Ribeye - rare. It came out in reasonable time. <br/>I have already invested too much time in this review for a place which clearly had no investment in staff, quality produce, or staff who can properly cook. I am in pain with Stomach cramps as I write this, my partner who I called is also crook and my boy isn't good either. <br/>STAY AWAY! Forget shopper docket rubbish I have read people have for this place. Save your money unless you want to bump off your inlaws. Ouch
Roger Wrightly
Stunning 500g Parma, really really enjoyed it and all the better if you buy it with the shopper docket that gives you a free main meal when 1 main meal is purchased, can't say anything bad about this place other than the annoyingly long wait to order and pay for your food, but that's about it
Jen
Came here for a midweek dinner and had a Parma and schnitzel with gravy. The Parma was ok and the schnitzel was good however the gravy was off tasting and ruined the meal.
Jules ☺
Havent been here for a long time & this visit was well worth . There weren't many people today at lunch as it wasnt kids eat free but our table was very pleased with all meals provided.<br/>My mini pulled pork burgers where fantastic, the kids meals where great & all our meals came out at once.<br/>Staff where friendly & attentive. <br/>

The Coach and Horses Hotel quite often appears on the back of supermarket dockets in my area, advertising their 'Buy One Meal and Get a 2nd Meal Free'. My partner and I love a good deal so last week we decided to try Coach and Horses for the very first time.<br/><br/>We started with an entree of the Garlic and Cheese Pizza. The pizza was the perfect size for a starter meal, however it could have benefited by adding a tad more garlic which would have improved the overall flavour. For mains I ordered the cider battered Barramundi Fillets and my partner ordered the Saganaki Chicken with potato rosti, cherry tomato and walnut salad. The portion sizes were quite generous despite having paid very little for the two meals using the docket deal, however the dishes could be improved by again adding more flavour. My chips were very basic and lacking in saltiness, as was the garden salad which was very straight-forward with little to no dressing. Thankfully my partner could not fault his dish, so if we were to return I would more likely than not order the Saganaki Chicken.<br/><br/>The Coach and Horses does not have a dessert menu, but they do have a dessert/cake cabinet from which you can choose what you want. My partner sneakily ordered two Oreo Cheesecakes, which were actually the highlights of the evening.<br/><br/>Overall, Coach and Horses delivered a very affordable dining experience but could make some small changes to their menu to encourage diners to return when there is no docket deal available.

The Coach and Horses has gone through many face lifts and many levels of service an quality.  We went there recently and it seemed pretty good.   The staff were friendly and helpful and we sat in a comfortable booth.  We ordered 2 of the 500gram paras, one barrumundi fillets and one ribeye steak, plus a bottle of red wine and a couple of beers.  it should be noted there are also usually lots of delicious options on the specials board so be sure to check it out.<br/>There was some good variety on the winelist, but it needs a review.  The wine we purchased was advertised as a "Mclaren Vale" but was actually a "Coonawarra"!  <br/>The two parmas were huge and very tasty, but that much cheese made them a little oily, perhaps they need to be cut back a bit?  The barramundi was delicious and we were happy they were willing to grill the fillets rather than deep fry them - this also indicates they aren't buying them in already battered!  The steak was great and cooked to perfection.<br/><br/>The coach offers good quality pub food at a very reasonable price and i think it stacks up favorably against the other pubs in the area.

Don't get your hopes up. Broken chairs, RUDE teenage staff. Good was pub style and large for an OK price. Large group meal at reasonable prices but the staff need a wake up call.
Bazz
It used to be one of the best pub meals in the east. But, not tonight. It was a cold Monday night but the place was full. Lots possibly using a shop a docket on its last valid day<br/>The tired and unenthusiastic way one of the staff dragged a chair across the room reflected our cold meat & veggies on our neglected plates that finally arrived. But we had waited too long to complain. The next shop-a docket will tempt us but we will stay away.
Linda
If anyone knows what a bruschetta looks like - it is not the attached. Shame, shame, shame. <br/>Coach and horses recently changed a lot of their kitchen to amateur untrained chefs. It's a pity. They used to be phenomenal.
Joe Maddog
disgusting customer service. This is the second Time we specifically made a booking months in advance for mothers day, we were told that we definitely had a table next to the kids playground, we even checked two days prior only to be put at a table the was the furthest away. When we complained, we were met with the most indifferent response from the management, "nothing we can do".<br/>Thanks for making my wife's mothers day fantastic.

Ordered honey and beef stirfry with cashews.<br/>No Cashews. 3 bits tough beef. No taste.<br/>Had a plate full of noodles. Not worth the money. Last week had pork stirfry. This was a lovely meal. Wont go hack to be ripped off for bad cooking.<br/>Came back again WHY. Ordered roast pork. Got big plate with enough to go on a bread plate. Dry no gravy no apple sauce. Uncooked veggies. ARE they going BROKE<br/>SHIT MEAL

We went for a night out with a group of friends.  My friends ordered at the same time as me and I was still waiting for our meals 45 minutes later.  My sons (kids meal) still hadn't arrived by 8pm. My daughter and I got our meals at 8:20pm.  When we asked a staff member she said she would check.  20 minutes later no meal.  I went and asked at the desk and they said they were cooking it.  TEN minutes later it arrived (nearly 9:15pm) it arrived.  It was a snitzel and one side was burnt.  He couldn't eat it.  We didn't get given the drinks vouchers until the cashier gave it to a friend who ordered next but I had already bought all the drinks.  What a waste of money. NEVER going back again.

Monday-Friday Lunch Special .... Pub Meal, more about selling drinks.<br/><br/>$10 for Chicken Parma and a pot of beer .... Not a bad price for a quick lunch and surely you are not expecting too much.<br/><br/>Great spot for Sport Live telecast, pick the right day.

Not going back ever. Waste of money. Bruschetta was tasteless, and bread burnt. Steak was so tough and tasteless. Chicken was also tough and rice had no salt ,tasteless again . Apple crumble was the last straw, just hopeless . If you go make sure you add salt as I don't think the kitchen no how to season anything..
ReadySteadyEat
Pretty standard pub. Too many waitresses, not enough people taking orders. Food was tasty, large, but nothing overly exciting. I ordered the lamb shank and my partner ordered the Parma. The shank was lovely, but had a random side of corn (not sure who thought those flavours went together) and the broccoli was undercooked. The Parma bragged it's 500g size, but tasted like a pre crumbed and frozen chicken breast.<br/>Food came out in good time, and the wine and beer was great.

I don't know about other times of the week, but Saturday lunchtime was not a great experience. Of the five meals we ordered, one came out at least twenty minutes before any of the others, the next two were stone cold and had to be sent back and the last one came out about twenty minutes later than the rest. Don't even ask how long we waited for coffee and cakes! The meals themselves were enjoyable but not really worth the slow service.
Mrmaestro
A bit hit and miss. Some very nice dishes and some not-so-nice ones. Nothing is outright bad, but there are some underwhelming dishes. The chicken parma for example - perfectly reasonable schnitzel but the ham on it looks like the cook made a trip to Coles and bought one of those little packs of sandwich ham.<br/><br/>On the other hand the steaks are very nice. The rib eye is money. And the chef has gone full-Heston Blumenthal with the hamburger; American cheese, jalepenos, brioche bun. It's a bit special as far as pub food goes. Very nice hot chips on the side too.<br/><br/>The only thing really lacking at this place is atmosphere, thanks to the pub/bistro feel. It's like the opposite of Balsamic at Eastland, which has a very nice ambience but pretty rubbish food.
Steph
Absolute rip-off, disgusting!. Food here is disgusting...You get better food at McDonald's and pay a quarter of the price! <br/>$30 bucks for garlic prawns... I don't know where their recipe was inspired from but no where have I seen garlic prawns served with beans and random bean shoots on top... gross! And could not even taste garlic! Salmon was also served half-cooked. Save your money!

Ate here on a shopadocket. So was great value. Meals were nice vegetable under cooked and only warm. <br/>But the chicken & pork were both cooked well and still moist. <br/>7/10

Good servings and good food. We have been to the Bistro twice and each time the food was excellent. The servings were also reasonable.<br/>We have had the parma, fish and chips, spaghetti marinara and lamb shanks. All were delicious.

A Joke. Tricked into visiting this place with a free 2nd meal voucher<br/><br/>Ordered the $33 porterhouse. <br/><br/>Nearly laughed(cried) when it was brought to the table. A few millimeters thin, extremely burnt (ordered medium) and a slab of parsnips as the vegetable side. Ive never left a steak uneaten & i couldn't get through half. <br/><br/>Awful.
Denno
Cool building..... That's about it.. Interesting old country pub. The food is kinda bizarre, I seems to me that the menu hasn't changed since perhaps the 70's, (they have deep fried Camembert on the menu, no joke). It's like a trip back in time to a bistro where they don't care.

You get what you pay for, but this is worse. This is not the most expensive food around. However I would not go back, it is not anything to write a favorable review about, or eat for that matter. Hey if it is filling your guts for a cheap amount, and that is all you want, you might find McDonalds next door a bit cheaper.<br/><br/><br/>-----13 Dec, 2014-----<br/><br/>Food was bad, not worth the cheapest price. The food was not good at all. I would bin it. If I made it myself, I would not be happy. It was cheap, but worthless, as it was not a nice meal at all. Even the beer was bad.
Hungry Kath
Won't be going back. I ordered fish and chips - the piece of fish was very small and the chips were cold. My husband ordered chicken parmigiana - very large piece of meat (not really identifiable as breast - not sure really) which was probably more crumbs than meat. And pretty tasteless. His chips were cold also.<br/>Husband had chocolate mousse, which was OK apart from the canned cream. <br/>Won't go back. Very disappointing.
Anne
Horrible food . No flavour. The wait staff didn't even converse with us at all. Won't be back appalling service and food.
Book.worm
Absolutely terrible .... It took much longer than an hour from joining the queue to order our meals until their arrival at the table. Three of ate and we all left more on the plates than we consumed. Hubby left more than 2/3 of his Parma behind; he was lucky that his was edible - it was just far too much for any ordinary person to eat. A platter sized Parma which could have fed the 3 of us for 2 meals each. My land shank was flavourless and too well cooked. Nice mash though - I should have just ordered the veg. Daughter's chicken burger was smothered in a chees that was too brightly coloured to be natural and did not taste good.<br/>Overall, a waste of $70 as most of it ended up in the bin.

Children and Gluten Free. We have been to the Coach & Horses a number of times in the last year since our granddaughter was diagnosed as a Coeliac and have been extremely happy with both the service and the meals. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the meals were both tasty and plentiful. The children love the play area and it gives the adults time to enjoy their meals
Rdcreeves
Meals Ok - Service too slow. Meals were ok, but took way too long to get served and for meals to come out. <br/>If you're going to promote your business on shopper dockets and entertainment book, make sure you have sufficient resources to service people who come to the hotel
Karina Laird
Wasn't very good at all. Can't even make a good Parma. Waste of time
Deathevocation
Should have known better. Should have seen the warning signs when I walked in. Deserved what I got.<br/><br/>$14.50 for a pint of Asahi. Terrible processed parma. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Great bistro and sports bar awesome. <br/>Parmas in both - great value and delicious in both bistro and sports bar. <br/>Service in sports bar excellent.
...
Dining chairs all wonky and need replacing. Table was stabilised using a serviette. Staff were very efficient and quick to help. A bit average in price and was dead in atmosphere. Barely anyone there.
Bianca
Last week I had dinner at the coach and horses, the staff were very friendly and helpful.<br/>Both the loverly young man who seated us and the lady who served us seemed very competent in their role.<br/>Would eat again.
Lj
Unhappy. Waited over an hour for 2 adults fish and chips, and a further 15 minutes for a children's spaghetti. Fish and chips served with microwaved chips, and no tartare sauce, as listed. Waited another 5 minutes for the sauce. Simply terrible service and horrible food quality. Will not be back, and recommend others not to bother.
Mcay1
Very disappointed with Xmas dinner. A piece of tough turkey wrapped in a slice of supermarket ham. A golf ball sized mashed potato croquette. Very unappetising vegetables. For the price paid you would have expected at least ham off the bone and decent roast veggies. Never again. No wonder the place was half empty.
Michelle Carbis
Had worst meal tonight! Garlic Prawns with NO GARLIC!!!
Jdcraig53
Tuff tuff meat. Ordered lamb back straps, they were so tuff you couldn't cut them. Vegetables were cold and raw. Worse meal every had there. Maybe the chef was not on night night. Brought the extremely meat home to the dog,who also had trouble eating it
Mark Higgins
Horrible meal. My partner and I have eaten here before and had good meals but I was keen on having something a little less fattening. I decided upon the greek lamb salad, this was a grave mistake. The lamb cutlets were raw on one side and lightly cooked on the other and the salad was iceberg lettuce with 3-4 strands of red onion, 2 slices of tomato and 3 slices of cucumber, I didn't feel hungry on seeing it. The staff were polite but no one checked if our meals were fine and even afterwards we had to clear our own table of plates. Probably the last time I eat there.
Katie
Won't honour deals and rude staff. Went with my family on Sunday night and ordered a seniors meal for my mum, only to be told they don't have seniors meals on weekends. No mention of this on the menu. The manager was extremely rude, throwing change back at my sister. Food was average. Will never go back. Don't have offers in your menu if you are not going to honour them. (A small printed note sticky taped on the register is not good enough, especially when you still have seniors meals with no conditions in your menu.)
Ratty
Been coming here for a while now. Always love the service and steaks here. Highly recommend for a nice family outing. Playground for kids is great makes it an all round great night out.
Kitty
Appalling service, rude manager on duty Sunday night. Hardly suprised it rates so low. Clearly we shan't return and we advise others to follow suit.

Great meal great for ur money can't beat parm night , service was a bit poor

New menu New chef freindly staff great service. We went for dinner to the Coach and Horses which we now understand to be under new management along with new chefs the menu is outstanding with a specials board that is amazing, the food that came out is impecable.<br/>i believe if youve tried before, and were not completely happy you must do yourself a favour and try again.
Carly
Pub Meals. Awesome cheap pub meals to sit back and eat and have a beer with the lads, average service but definitely a returning customer.
Katrinatim
Not good!. We have visited a few times as the kids play area is great, but the service and food is terrible! If it was a cheapo pub it would be understandable but it isn't exceptionally cheap. The food is bland, overcooked, cakes and kid's jelly are stale...not a fan at all.
Cruiser
Recently tried the Specials Board Swordfish with Mango Salsa , it was perfectly cooked and well presented. The Paracombe Riesling was a fitting companion . Service was friendly and efficient.<br/>Cruiser

Disappointing. We chose to go here as it has an indoor play area and we thought it would be good for our 2 year daughter, something to keep her busy and not so whingy. It was a very disappointing night. <br/>When we sat down, my chair was very wobbly, and when I checked it the legs were leaning on an angle.<br/>I stood in line to order the food and was standing in the same spot for 10 mins before it moved. It took me about 20 mins to get to the counter to order my food.<br/>Whilst waiting we took our daughter to the play area. This was ok. It was small but she liked it. There were heaps of other kids, so we had to be careful about them knocking her about. <br/>When our food arrived, it looked ok. My husband got the porterhouse steak with chips and veggies, my daughter got the kids menu sausages and chips, and I got the seafood platter. Now, for the price we payed, you would expect that the food should be reasonably good. It wasn't. <br/>For my husbands' meal, the steak was ok, but that was it. The veggies and chips were undercooked. Even tomato sauce couldn't fix the chips. The steak was suppose to be medium rare but came out medium well.<br/>For my daughters' meal, the sausages looked questionable. I've never seen sausages that colour, and it didn't taste well too. I was glad though that she thought the chips were alright, because that's all she ate. With the kids meal she got a free drink, which I chose orange juice. The OJ wasn't good. To repeat my husbands' description "it tastes like $1 OJ should".<br/>For my meal, it was a platter of a good variety of seafood. Pity it didn't taste good. The salmon just didn't taste nice. The fresh prawns and fish in batter was ok and edible. The calamari was horrible. It was so soft and not how it should taste. The prawns in wonton wrapper was in a fried springroll wrapper, and it was soft and soggy. The salad with dressing tasted weird, I think the sauce just made it worst, and my chips were also undercooked.<br/>For the price we payed for the whole night, it was a waste of money.
Cams290 Vermont
We were loyal patrons of the Coach until recently, the food has been hit and miss as far as quality is concerned, and the timing of meals has been terrible.<br/>Some mains were being brought out to the table while others had to wait for half an hour or more. It's a shame as our kids love the play area, and it's close to our home.
Jenni Wilson
Continuosly let down. About the only thing good about this place is the kids play area. We have been here several times and the meals really are below standard especially for the prices they charge. Tonight was the worst so far with burnt chicken nuggets, medium rare steaks coming out well done and medium-well steaks coming out medium rare (they were different cuts of steak with different sauces as well), the seafood platter was almost inedible and the meals all came out at seperate times. The manager was of no use either when his attention was brought to the problem. There is nothing on the menu I could recomend as I have tried something different everytime and even the parmas are just ok.
The Parmassieur
The salad was tasty but the chips were slightly undercooked. The crumb on the parma was cooked well, being nice and crisp but not burnt. As for the chicken, it was juicy but a little tough. I'm being picky because it was nicer than a hell of a lot of parma's I've eaten but hey, it's my blog and that's how it goes. I definitely think that it's a problem with the quality of the chicken breast as opposed to how well it was cooked though.
