Review Phoolwari Tandoori - Ringwood

The waitress was really kind and patient with us since it was the first time we ordered Indian food. We eat the butter chicken with rice and it was fabulous! Note: Phoolwari means flower garden ❤️ I really recommend to eat in this restaurant

Lovedeep was a warm and welcoming host. Taking the time to talk & explain how the restaurant started, its recent change in ownership & major renovations. Phoolwari is a well presented restaurant. With classy, fresh decor suitable for a special occasion. Overall the food was delicious, well cooked, generously portioned and of high quality ingredients. Abundance of spices and yummy North Indian flavours. The samosa's were fantastic. The pastry was light, thin and crispy and the filling was packed with spices and flavour. Papadams served with a delightful tamarind sauce and mint sauce. Naan bread was cooked perfectly, slight springiness and the garlic naan was unique in that the garlic was roasted before crushing, heightening the flavours. The lamb Rogan Josh and beef korma were balanced, creamy, but felt that they would have tasted better if more tender. The mango and pistachio kulfi's (ice-cream) were a nice end to the meal. The dinner for 2 meal will leave you full and satisfied. We'll done and all the best to this fresh start for Phoolwari! If you're allergic to MSG, might be good to double check if they use MSG as I'm feeling really thirsty afterwards. Do Phoolwari use MSG?

Took AN HOUR AND 35 MINUTES to arrive!!! Cold. And the containers are only half filled. What a rip off. Never again. PS the chicken isn’t even cooked. It’s pink!!

What an amazing experience eating at Phoolwari. Excellent and very friendly staff. Food was very tasty with amazing aromas of spices. Just delicious!!! You could tell that all the food was made fresh as the chicken was so tender and juicy, and all the meals were hot. If you love flavour, I highly recommend Phoolwari!! The decor is very warm and welcoming with a classy set up. We will definitely be back very soon!!

Dined at Phoolwari and was a fabulous experience. The ambience was amazing and new interiors were classy. Food was scrumptious and cooked with great flavours, we asked for mild and it was just perfect. Totally recommend this place to locals as the new owners are friendly and very welcoming. Will definitely be coming back soon. Thanks for your lovely service :)

A quiet Sunday night experience in very comfortable surroundings. The service was perfectly timed, friendly and efficient. The food was perfectly spiced and expertly cooked. I was especially intrigued with the huge, family heirloom stitchery on the wall. Days later my friend and I are still talking happily about our experience. We would go again.

Ordered the Family Pack for 4 last night using Menulog. Had never eaten here before. Overall, very impressed. Price was very reasonable, and it actually fed 5 of us comfortably. Well done for offering the Family Pack, it makes ordering very quick & easy, especially if you don't have any fussy eaters in your party 👍🏼

The food was absolutely delicious! Best Indian food I've had in ages. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I've already been there twice since the renovations and I will definitely go again.

The worst service I have ever had in my life. As the closing time is 10 o’clock, we called by 9:15 to book a table for us so they were like try to come early as we want to close at 10 and we were like okay! We totally understood and we reach there in within 10 minuets and they were like getting so much impatient for an order as we were the only customers at that time or may be we were first and last of the day!!!! Anyway, they just really didn’t treat us well and the food wasn’t even too good as they prepared it so quickly as they wanted to just close the kitchen. We had ordered chicken biryani and we even found a stone in biryani. And rice was even not well cooked as they were just in rush to close the shop. Such a ridiculous approach and even when we were leaving the boy on the counter treated us like we had free food at a lodge. No gestures no apology for their bad stoned food. Well won’t ever recommend any one to visit this place especially when it’s CLOSING TIME because it’s just waste of money and even you can’t feed your self in such way.

This has been our go to Indian place for at least 10 years and we eat here semi regularly. Well nothing prepared me for the shamozzle that was tonight. We arrived at 5.45 and tried to place a drinks order. The waitress was new and did not know what a Lemon, Lime and Bitters was. After a comedic back and forth exchange hubby ended up pointing to the menu and hoping. 5 minutes later we got our drinks. We then placed our order - or again attempted to. At this time we specifically requested a plate of rice and some naan to come out ASAP for the kids (the usual tray of poppadoms and dips not being delivered for some reason this evening.) 50 minutes (and nothing bar two entree pieces of tandoor chicken later) there's still no food. No poppadoms, no rice. By this stage the kids are about to eat the table leg! Husband ended up leaving and taking our son to get Hungry Jacks before dropping him to a school event. Usually we're in and out in 45 minutes but tonight it was 55 mins before the first of the mains arrived. The food itself was good, even though some of the order had been missed (but I wasn't charged for it, so that's something.) My daughter was really wanting the poppodoms, and after several failed attempts at trying to request these, my husband stopped at home 3 suburbs away and nuked her some, bringing them back to the restaurant for her to eat. Yes. You read that right. We had to bring our own poppodoms to an Indian restaurant!!!!! The food itself is always good there, but with a one hour and fifty minute turnaround for a simple meal (entree, main and desert) and NO ONE else in the restaurant, I don't dare ever go again. Could you imagine it on a packed night?!?! Thanks for the good times, Phoolwari - it's been a fun 10+ years, but I think it's time we find a new Indian restaurant...

Must have caught these guys on a busy night as the wait on food was longer than expected (Home delivery was longer than the given time.) however the food was amazing safe to say this will be our new local. Thanks to the team for being so polite given the long wait.

Never say spicy in this restaurant!! Guy at reception puts a sack of chilli powder in the curry and give you. Feels like the same guy has personal vengeance towards customers who say spicy!
Otherwise awesome food.

We came to Phoolwari based on a recommendation of someone who used to come here years and years ago. I’m always up for Indian and boneless chicken tikka pieces and butter chicken are essential on any occasion.

Being a Monday night the restaurant was almost empty which continued for the duration of our time there although there were a number of phone calls for takeaway orders. The inside was quite dated and there was loud but catchy Bollywood music playing.

It was byo and we were able to BYO beer & wine which was really a good option.

Possibly a little too soon after our menus were handed out then the waiting staff member came to take our orders. There was some clunkiness in service due to some level of language barrier. We order was taken and we did find at least a couple of mix up with items order. We received extra samosas and we never received our plain Naan (only garlic).

The food was just ok. The garlic naan had a serious amount of garlic. The chicken tikka was only just cooked and I probably would have liked it cooked a little more so. The lamb curry was inconsistent in terms of meat tenderness with some pieces being incredibly tender while others quite average.

I did love the samosa, cauliflower pakora, and the Aloo Palak. The butter chicken was less tomatoey than some which is my preference so I also enjoyed this dish.

Overall there were a number of good and bad things we experienced on the menu and in the service so rating reflects the room for improvement.
Good Food Good Mood
Walked into a completely empty restaurant at around 7pm on a Friday which didn't bode well. Another family joined later and they were doing quite a bit of uber eats traffic so I figured this restaurants been in existence for like two decades they must be doing something right to have survived so long, particularly when I know there's quite a delicious Indian place just across the road.
Unfortunately while I liked the decor and the service was fantastic the food left a little to be desired. Gigantic portions though which is always good.
They were out of tandoori prawns so we swapped to tandoori fish which I was a bit dubious about but was actually the stand out dish. Huge pieces of delicate flesh well marinated and full of flavour. In stark contrast the chicken tikka entree was quite dry and rather bland.
We also got tandoori chicken which wasn't boneless as I was hoping. That was quite lacklustre also.
The coconut rice was a bit of a surprise and not the usual coconut rice I was expecting. It was a vibrant yellow in colour and covered with coconut on top rather than being coconut flavoured itself. The butter chicken was just okay for me. I didn't try the goat curry because goat but it was well received at the table.
I'm glad we checked it out but I personally much prefer the nearby Taj Agra

Horrible! Do not go here!!!! I have no idea how people rated this highly....Food was all disgusting!
Dry chicken with no flavour! Samosas so salty they were inedible, nann was chewy and tasteless, papadams were burnt and undercooked...The curries were horrible too. Watery and dry butter chicken and the beef on the korma was so dry I thought it would turn to powder in my mouth. I hate wasting food but unfortunately all of the food tonight was so disgusting I had to throw a lot of it away.

I chose the ‘Palak Paneer – fried homemade cottage cheese in a smooth saffron flavoured spinach puree, delicately finished with fresh herbs ($12.00)’.
My dining companion went for the ‘Kofta Curry – potato and cheese balls, mixed with dried fruits and nuts, simmered in a light, almond-flavoured sauce ($12.00)’.

Not hugely impressed by this place. Everything we got tasted bland and lacked seasoning. Service was prompt (by virtue of us being the only ones there),but otherwise seemed a bit unfirendly. Wouldnt recommend.

Phoolwari (actually in Ringwood) remains in my top 3 Indian restaurants in Melbourne. Authentic and delicious food at very reasonable prices (one of the cheapest I've come across), always served with a smile. The garlic naan and lamb pasanda are personal favourites. Highly recommended!

Phoolwari has been a favourite Indian restaurant of mine. The food was delicious as always, and the service outstanding. The staff here are always really friendly and attentive. Would recommend Phoolwari if you're after some tasty Indian vegetarian ☺

Despite miscommunication and a longggg wait, Phoolwari Tandoori delivered on delicious Indian food. Not to mention honouring customer service by providing adequate compensation, I will return!

Consistent, good quality and great price. Take away or dine in, these guys are great value for money. Excellent food. Could not recommend more.

Really worth a visit great food. We have not been for many year the last time the place was in a major shopping centre now a street site by itself. The food was really good very generous size in fact we ordered far to much . We arrived at 7.30 on New Years Eve planning to be home to see all the fireworks. The only thing was some of the patrons constantly going outside for a smoke and drinking beer from their car BAD FORM plus rubber thongs on the feet come on. The young girls serving very good indeed came over a number of times to see all was OK as it was just get some Tonic for gin in. The place runs a delivery service which we will use but we like going out to eat. One idea is part of going too a Indian Restaurant is the look of the place the feel , the food and last the theatre of the presentation of the team (GUYS get the men out of jeans and polo into some good looking gear) I will admit the two men going out on deliveries a lot which would explain the dress I suppose but really it was really a very good night prices very good with a good selection for me the food size very generous so one main good do two people but as my wife can eat chilli hot food made with Scotch Bonnet chills we have to have separate meals.
To all who read this give the place a go its really worth it as out in the area we live not many good places to eat well this is one .
Many thanks to all of the Phoolwari team

Would you like to wait 2 hours for your food?. If so then this is the place for you.
Pay a delivery free, wait 2 hours and then be rewarded with cold food.

No thank you.

Phoolwari Tandoori Indian Restaurant. RINGWOOD.... G'day - [Anybody that's Interested]. This is my 1st Review on urbanspoon, so I thought I'd share some thoughts about the Restaurant we frequent the most!
I just don't understand some of the earlier reviews I've just read.
We moved into this area 12 Years ago and Phoolwari soon became our favorite Indian Restaurant.
We Dine out Weekly and 25% of the time it's Indian. So we've been to Phoolwari about 120/150 times.
Not once, were we disappointed with the Food or the Service and we've made a point of taking Friends and Interstate & O/S Visitors there, they have all commented on the Quality of the Food and were amazed when they found out how inexpensive it had been.
My favorite dishes here, are :
Entree : Tandoori Mushrooms, ask for "HOT" or "EXTRA HOT" and they'll happily comply.
Main Course: The HOUSE special. "Chicken Phoolwari" and you can order this as Medium, Hot, or Very Hot.
Rice: All the Rice dishes are nice and with generous servings.
Breads: Try the Garlic Naan Bread but ask for extra Garlic, If you're a Garlic Lover, you'll be Rapt with it!.
All things considered. I'd rate Phoolwari the best Indian Restaurant in the Eastern Suburbs, some others might be better, but they'll be more expensive.
My Wife and I, when we dine here.. Share an Entree, a Main Course, a serve of Rice and a Garlic Naan {with extra Garlic} and the Bill is always below $30.00
It's worth a try, especially, if you like Northern Indian or Tandoori Food.

Ordinary food, lackluster service. I and several friends had the "Maharajah Banquet" here recently, and were treated to perhaps the worst Indian food that I have ever eaten. We would have been better off getting our curries from the food court at Eastland!

The wait staff were slow, and seemed ill at ease with the business of running an Indian restaurant. The entrees took over 40 minutes to arrive. The bhaji were doughy, and the rest of the starters tasted of the Dead Sea - salty.

Every single curry was extremely bland - with no taste of chilli whatsoever. Upon tasting the "Madras" I was worried that perhaps I had finally killed all of my tastebuds, so lacking in flavour was this "hot" curry. We asked for a hot condiment to be provided in order to counteract the monotony of the curries. After 30 minutes of waiting, we were treated with a sauce that was clearly the pappadum plum dipping sauce heated through with Master Foods chilli flakes in it. I imagine that, considering this impromptu chutney and the lack of chilli in the curries, the kitchen had failed to replenish its green chilli (or chilli powder) stores.

The dessert (mango kulfi) was the sort that can be bought from Indian grocers - no preparation required.

I have eaten at Phoolwari before, and it has never been this bad! I can only assume that the regular cooking staff and wait staff had been replaced with people who had no experience in the hospitality or culinary industries.

I will not be patronising this restaurant again.

Average. We ordered take away from this place and the food tasted ok however the butter chicken was mainly all gravy (not much chicken in there) and the goat curry was mostly all bones. The best part of the whole meal was the naan bread, yum. Unfortunately I would probably try somewhere else next time.
Mojohee
Johee. What a rip off, don't go here if you are in a hurry, I waited 1hr 4mins the other night (7/5/2012) for take away, when I got it home it was quite ordinary and expnsive for what I got: entree sized mushrooms, plain vege curry and a garlic naan $21.50 and as I say the food was nothing much. They won't see me again
Tom
Absolute rubbish! After having eaten in amazing restaurants abroad, it's easy to make comparisons and I would have to say this is some of the worst Indian food I've eaten. You'll do better at a food court and that's saying something! Apparat from the appalling food, the service wasn't great and the restaurant has zero atmosphere.
Lyn
Tasty Indian. Good full flavored Indian food at a reasonable price and great service
Yehbutnobut
Good service and good food. Nothing spectacular. Just good basic Indian.

Moved to ringwood from craigieburn, checked urbanspoon on my iPhone and found this restaurent, $50 enough for 4 people takeaway . Sounds very good. One curry smells like soap, rest taste ok. Trouble started after awhile, burping all the night. Stomach upset. Can't say more than this.
