Review Nikos Tavern - Ringwood

We dined for lunch and had the banquet for 2. Amazing value and such great variety. Banquet included dips and bread, saganaki, chicken, pork, lamb, fish, prawns and dessert with tea or coffee. Great friendly service with a dance floor for Greek dancing.

Our family celebrated a birthday here last night. Everything was perfect. Our waiter was so courteous and NOTHING was too much trouble. All staff were wonderful. Everyone loved their generous sized meal. Something for everyone on the menu and good prices. Very happy

I used to frequent this restaurant many years ago and loved it. Returned for a birthday booking today and was very disappointed. The food was average, the calamari very rubbery. We had a family member experience a severe choking episode and while they came good in 30s, there seemed to be no concern from staff. The waitress we had, while attentive left a lot to be desired with her attitude. A smile and a bit of friendliness would go a long way. The greatest disappointment was hygiene. Someone had vomited in the mens bathroom the night before and was still there at 1pm the next day until we notified staff. Shocked bathrooms not inspected before next days trade.

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. On one hand, it's amazing, my kids love it. I've had a few orders over the past few years that have made me rethink about coming back, their dinner packs seemed to keep changing, sometimes everything just thrown in, sometimes meats in containers. One order arrived with salad instead of chips, another took hours. Most recent order was spot on though, I'm hoping they have turned the corner. I'd probably give them 3-4 star review based on 5+ years of ordering, however they probably get an unfair amount of 1 star reviews, and the fact it's still top 3 on the list of take away options for us has to push it to a 5. Online order, pick up if you can to give yourself the best chance at the 5 star experience.

Don’t bother wasting your time or money. We booked for Easter Sunday with Nick. He said he was opening just for our family and needed a minimum booking of 30 adults on a $50 banquet to cover his costs ($1500). We agreed to pay the difference of anyone that cancelled. I called to confirm numbers a couple of days before and spoke to another staff member. They said they had taken other bookings for the day so they were NOT just opening for us anymore and we just had to pay for the number of guests on a banquet and no more. Ended up with 25 adults and 7 kids ($1425). There was also additional spent on bottles of wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks. That wasn’t enough for Nick. He took to confronting us about paying for an extra 5 adults ($250) even after he confirmed he’d taken additional bookings and walk ins for the day. Meat was dry and served without any sides. Tables we’re left dirty even after staff were asked to clear plates and desserts were stale. Some of our guests witnessed the kitchen staff scraping left overs on to platters, covering and refrigerating. Disgusting 🤮 Nick had the audacity to text me the next day asking for another $300 to be transferred to their bank account with bank details. Needless to say we won’t ever be back. There are so many other small business to support. This one does not appreciate or respect their clientele.

I went there once and it seemed to be okay, I went there with my family for my birthday and it was very disappointing. It wasn’t like a Greek restaurant, the food was tasteless the chips were frozen, you pay good money you expect every thing fresh. Meat was dry the Greek salad wasn’t very nice either, everything tasted cheap. This restaurant has great potential and it’s in a beautiful location!

Ordered appetiser platter for $35 - grilled octopus, calamari & prawns, chicken in a wrap & saganki. We were given pickled octopus instead with olives, caramelised onions etc, 3 burnt chicken skewers instead of wrap, saganki did not resemble any saganki we have eaten it was undercooked and a blob like mess and 3 calamari rings were soggy with an overcooked prawn inside the rings. The best part of the platter was a small amount of salad mix, the chips were not cooked in hot oil and were soaked with oil! MAINS: we ordered pasticchio and moussaka. The pasticchio was tasteless and unappetising with lots of soggy chips and the moussaka came with vegetables soaked in oil. The moussaka was frozen!!!! The centre of the square was very very cold to touch, part of the bechemel on top was burnt, the other half was undercooked with no colour at all. We had ordered a tarama dip with pita- the pita was soggy and very thin and could not hold the tarama. The young waitress asked us whether we wanted more pita- we told her we didn’t like the pita and did not want anymore, then 20 min later she came and asked us again if we wanted pita! The manager who took our order at the start got our order wrong even though she repeated our request for the 4 items allowed on the appetiser platter. She also allowed a group of 20 or more pp to stand around their table to talk for over 1.5 hrs- we had 2 very tall men with their backs to us and close to our table chatting making us uncomfortable hovering over us the whole time. The music finally started and it was pre- recorded very loud music. After half an hr or so one of the elderly men on stage began to sing - it was uninspiring. The worst experience ever in a Greek restaurant! The food below standard - the service was poor - the entertainment was disappointing! Overheard other customers questioning why they come to this venue - they were very disappointed too and were there before us and still hadn’t been served. The kitchen staff were fighting whilst we reluctantly paid for the platter, tarama & pasticchio. I refused to pay for a frozen piece of moussaka which I had only tasted a mouthful till I found the frozen centre! Never going back again.

Food was good. Staff very nice. FYI If you visit on Groupon, they have 10 dollars corkage per bottle. Also on that day no beer on tap - run out

Went in to get a lamb pack for two this evening and waited for five minutes for service. Not even a hello. Decided pizza from Mooroolbark would be better option. From a regular customer to a never customer in one foul swoop. You don't even rate 3.1 stars.

Shocking food - dry cold meat served with frozen mashed potatoe in a plastic cup (straight out of the freezer). Chips and salad were also soggy and cold. Was unbearable even for poor uni students.. Will never be back.

Some of the best food I have ever had! I went in last Wednesday for takeaway and was greeted my the best service I have reviewed by (who I'm assuming) was one of the female owners! I was 5 dollars short for my order and the woman was more than happy to wave it as I have been there many times. Would recommend 10 out of 10 and there saganaki is to die for! Will be back :)

Greek restaurants are the biggest joke serourisly shit service and shit food We ordered a banquet the dips and saganaki were really yummy but when it came to our seafood it wasnt good at all it was cold like it had been sitting there and they seemed to have forgotten about our order so probably zapped it in the microwave or put in the fryer for a few mins We were told we were the next order and 45 mins later we received 3 plates of salad and waiting for our seafood to come and eat it all together Staff were horrible and the food was disgusting Doesn't even deserve a star

You guys are a joke. Rude as FK service which is at a snails pace. Don't expect a smile. Sat at the table for 30 mins and had to call the business to request a waiter to come to our table. Poor form guys. Your food is great which is why I come back, never again. Arrogance.

12 people on our table tonight. We ordered entree and mains and waited approx 45 mins. Our mains came out before entree. We told the waitress that we hadn't got our entrees yet and she said "well these mains are ready now". We asked her to take them back and we would like entree first. Entree came - it was ok at best. Mains came out a few at a time so some diners started to eat as theirs was getting cold waiting for the others. Two mains came out completely wrong, got sent back and still came out wrong the second time. Got attitude from the waitress when we showed her chicken in the lamb souvlaki, she replied "well at least there was some lamb in there". We weren't brave or patient enough to order dessert. We had to ask for the bill - they stuffed that up as well so even that had to get redone!! Terrible service. Will never go back. Heaps of better places around.

Just had Takeaway from here. The dinner for two is enough for four and the Spanakopita was delicious. Fantastic value for a very delightful meal!

Good food delivered is not always easy to find and I discovered by chance a few months ago, that Nikos delivers. I have had a few orders and last night I decided to order a fillet steak and salad. I asked for the steak to be cooked as almost well done and it was absolutely perfect. On a side note, their chips are super yummy and I've often gone there just to order a serve.

The feta in the salad was the cheap feta. Hardrly a greek salad. Who puts celery in a greek salad. Hardly any vinegar or dressing in the salad. And thats just the salad. The saganaki didnt have any zing to it. My thought is cheap cheese. Hardly any dips. Had to ask for extra bowl. And hardly any garlic in tzatziki. No seasoning on the lamb. The seafood was a joke! Had to ask for missing items that were advertised on the menu. The sweets were hardly sweet. The the ones that needed sugar syrup had hardly any sugar syrup. And the watermelon just tasted wrong. How do you get cut fruit wrong?

Ordered food from Nikos for the first and was given two stone cold souvlaki!! Didn't realize until I got home to eat my dinner and I only live 5 min away. Who sells cold souvlaki's!! And aswell as the meat being cold it was also fatty and chewy! The service was blunt and won't be coming back. Don't waste your money here

They have never been able to get an order correct! Once my souvlaki came without lettuce... Who can forget lettuce!

Terrible customer service, terrible food under cooked soggy chips I ordered thru the eat now app it said it would be ready in 20mins when I arrived I asked for chicken salt on my chips 30 mins later I over hear the chef say oh he can wait he changed his order when he got hear anyway I didn't know asking for chicken salt on chips was changing an order will never go here again I highly reccomened nobody else does either

I ordered food through an app and it was confirmed. But when I arrived to pickup they did not have my order and to order my food would be a fifty minute wait. Later the app staff confirmed Nikkos rejected the order.

Very expensive, we where hoping for live music, was told there is, but wasn't, they lied to us on the phone, we came from the other side of town. we got banquet. some food was defrosted, deserts where very dry, broken sign,<br/>will not return.

We had lunch yesterday at Nikos and ordered the vegetarian mezza and the vegan mezza. One of the best meals I have ever enjoyed and great value for money. I loved the grilled cheese and fabulous selection of dips and other vegetarian selections. I would highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner 😋

The family & kids loved the dancing with semi-live music plus the "smashing plates experience"; kids also loved checking out the fish pond. Been here twice now .. food serving size was good (really good value with Groupon); decor is a bit tired looking but staff were generally friendly. I would have given 4 stars, except staff seemed to now charge $10 a bottle corkage which seems to have changed a lot from no corkage charge last time..$10 is a little on the pricey side.<br/>Overall, I'd recommend going here at least once, especially for the plate smashing and dancing, and especially using Groupon, just dont drink wine here .. coffee and tea is a better option here.

I had been a loyal customer of their's for many years and ordered takeaway quite regularly even though the food was hit and miss. My friend and I decided to dine in one night and the service was absolutely appalling, as was the food. The biggest issue was the attitude of the owner/manager. He did not want to listen to a word we said, talked over us, and flat out told us we were talking crap. So arrogant and rude. I will never return!

I haven’t been for a while now and I ordered one for my wife and I <br/>WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED since I bought the last one Niko ?...the lamb has shrunk tucked away in the corner and the space that WAS filled with meat is now more vegetables with a bigger plastic dish of dips The round pita bread was dry and tasted like old cardboard and the price gone up $3 to $27. Sorry mate you have lost me and my wife as a regular customer There is a saying ...if it ain’t broke don’t fix it

great good, great service. We were a bit apprehensive after reading the reviews, but found the staff to be lovely and attentive and the food to be fresh, quick and authentic. The dolmades are fantastic! Not sure how the reviews are so bad as we couldn’t fault it at all. Will definitely be back!

To be fair I’ve never been particularly fussed on Greek food which is often over priced for relatively simple fare. Well let me say Nikos did nothing to improve my view of things. The venue itself was quite dated and in need of a face lift, the food was poorly presented and clearly without any love which overall made for a forgettable evening. In summary I’m sure there are many fine ‘genuine’ Greek establishments in Melbourne but sadly Nikos isn’t one of them :-(

Wow, where do I start. If only Gordon Ramsay had a Australian version of Kitchen Nightmare's. This would be he's first episode. I have ordered takeaway three times (with work colleagues, not my choice) at this restaurant over the years. All three times I have experienced either one of the following or a combination of.<br/><br/>1. Wrong order received 2. Staff members arguing at each other (both heard over the phone and during pick up). 3. Abosolute rubbish food.<br/><br/>The last time we ordered over the phone, the waitresses hung up on us as she could not understand our phone order. Let's see, "One sausage dinner pack and one chicken/lamb dinner pack ?" How hard is that to process ? Btw, your dinner packs should be called dips, salad and chips pack as meat content is fairly tiny.<br/><br/>Anyone who gives this restaurant more than 2 stars needs their brain donated to science.

Came for dinner on a Friday with a big group. They have a lot of tables and seating which is good for functions. Played live music (bouzoukia), and we had a lot of fun dancing to the Zorba. And lots of fun breaking plates. Great atmosphere but the food is just okay. Nothing special. They weren’t very busy. But mainly did take away a. We all shared the banquet. Which was a pretty decent portion of food and pretty decent price, around $30 a head. Dips were nice but the meat was a little bland. Service was pretty good too.

We ordered delivery-mixed dips without the fish dip, tabbouleh and a mixed grill. The dips came mixed together in a big container and they had put the fish dip in there as well-I don’t eat fish so I couldn’t eat most of the dip. The meal was lukewarm and the meat was tough. We both got stomach aches later that night as well.

Last night we went to Nikos as a group of 4 although it was a Saturday night the place was not even 1/2 full, considering this we were there for over 2 hours to just order entree and dessert!! The service lacked not only us but customers from 2 other tables had to approach the staff for someone to take our order. When we arrived we didn't have a booking and the older lady with the blonde hair was so flustered and hesitant to give us a table as they were apparently fully booked. Then when we were seated and asked to get up and moved shortly after as that table was reserved! If the food quality made up for this experiance we would return but the food was quite poor the dips were yum as but the rest was average and dessert platter was more then half just dried fruits.. I want green desserts at a Greek resturaunt not dried fruit. At the end of the night we proceeded to pay our bill where the older lady with blonde hair again came up to is all appolagetic about the service as they as so understaffed on the floor then just walks off and doesent even sort our bill.. great management Sorry but will not be returning so disappointing as I loved this place as a kid!!

We initially called to order as we wanted take away, the lady was beyond rude on the phone and when we said we'd have to have a think and call back she hung up. The menu on line is different to what they actually have - this is what caused the confusion. We ended up placing the order through an app so we didn't have to speak to the rude lady again. That was fine and easy. Heard some beeping out the front of our house, went out to take a look, their delivery guy was out the front honking at us to come and collect our food. There was no "hi here's your delivery", it was a "hold the box at the bottom" and then the car door slamming. Opened our meals and they were all average to say the least. We got, chips, saganaki, meat and salad. meat was ok - luke warm, salad was ok. Chips were cold, wet and soggy (mind you this place is less than 10 mins drive from our house), the cheese was coated in what looked like batter (never had my saganaki coated in batter before) and all sweated off leaving us with a slightly warm cheese rather than fried melting cheese and squeaked when you bit into it. Gross. Overall really disappointed with the food and the service from Nikos. None of us will be returning.

I have been going to Nikos since the late 80's. Second generation family business and authentic family friendly restaurant. I love it still and have never had a poor experience. The helpings are generous and the food is good. I'll be there again soon and will continue to recommend Nikos.

I went there with Kerrie to get some takeaway for Lunch this afternoon and I ordered the same thing to eat and Kerrie ordered the same to eat as well. The staff were nice to her and the service was amazing but I will not be returning anymore ever and you will lose me as a customer unless you do the takeaway Calamari and Chips for me for $8 everytime I come.

My friend recommended Nikos Tavern to me as an alternative to the Greek restaurants in Oakleigh. He said they were just as good. My interpretation of just as good was that they are not as good, otherwise he would have said that it was better. My success rate with ‘just as good’ places has been disappointing to say the least. Instinctively I was already thinking that Nikos Tavern may not have been such a good idea, because they were not only further away from me, but I’m settling for just as good. I thought I may be getting too caught up with these 3 words so my stubborn self wanted to be pleasantly surprised!

Succulent juicy kebabs, far tastier and better than any chain kebab I have tried. Definitely recommend. Do yourself a favour and visit Nikos for an authentic Greek kebab.

Nikos Tavern has been a regular spot for us since moving to the area.<br/>We have both eaten in & taken away.<br/>We have never had any issues with our dine in meals...<br/>Take away however, has always been up in the air... Soggy chips, fatty meats and cold pita. We stopped going for awhile. <br/>We decided to give it another chance on Friday night and am more than happy with what we picked up. Meat was lean, cut well & tasty. Chips & pita were hot and the saganaki to die for!!

I notice there were very few positive reviews over the passed few months, people will only bother if they have a bad experience. Well, 6 of us were there last night and had a great experience: food was good and service was excellent. Had a great vibe with the Greek dancing and the breaking of the plates. <br/>

I've had nikos time and time again and it has always been a fave for my family but as of late they seem to have dropped their game, what used to be juicy lamb and chicken gyros meat has become dry, the salad in the dinner pack just seems soggy but I will admit they still do serve up some delish dips.<br/><br/>Seem a little busy and have drop there standard to cater for the masses.....

Unfortunately we waited more than two and a half hours for a take away on a Friday night. The person could not care less that we were waiting and just kept saying we are busy. Food came cold. No love for Nikos.

Food was average, service was atrocious.  Started banquet at 6.00pm, by 8pm we had seen some dips and a small plate of chicken - move it along people! It didn't help when we saw other tables that arrived after us get served their banquet before us.  Apparently the owner did not see this as a problem.  To the young waitress with the long blond hair - run - you don't need to be belittled in front of customers by the owner, you deserve better.  We will not be going back.

This place simply does not care about its customers. We have given this place too many chances but after tonight we won't be going back. Our order of small wedges were stuffed inside the bag to the point they were all squashed and inedible. Our souvlakis looked, and tasted, like they were thrown together. We ended up throwing practically everything out. Not that Nikos Tavern cares ... absolutely no care taken with their food.

Nikos is a hit and miss. On a good day you'll love it, on a bad, you'll swear you'll never return. <br/><br/>We always get the same takeaway - lamb dinner pack for two. <br/><br/>Tonight's was cold, tough dry meat with under cooked chips. We use to try and eat early as it seemed to be better before they got to busy... I think that was everyone's plan tonight so, it didn't work. <br/><br/>There's only two of us but i would hate to spend money on a whole family on a chance it will be good. <br/><br/><br/>

Our group of 12 dined on a very quiet Tuesday night, there was one other small table and one other table with about 10 diners. Two people on our table received their entree with half of their Main after 20 minutes of ordering. The remainder of the table received their orders in dribs and drabs over the space of 2.5 HOURS. Half of the meals were cold, the other half so greasy it made us all sick. Terrible food, although the wait staff were lovely, the untimely service was absolutely unacceptable and given the restaurant was so quiet, unexplainable.

we orded to meals and we weren't disappointed very big servings at a reasonable price, the staff were friendly and funny very well spoken. the atmosphere was very good too, defiantly recommend this place

Ordered delivery through menulog. Called top confirm my order after an hour because I had never used menulog before and wondered if there had been a mistake. Staff over the phone were astoundingly rude. Instantly angry and defensive, treating me like an idiot for claiming it had been an hour since my order when indeed it had been 55 minutes. When food did arrive it was the grossest greek i had ever had. Chips barely cooked, calamari inedible. Not sure I'd wish it upon my enemy to eat here.

My experience is as follows :<br/><br/>I accidentally ordered pick up instead of delivery. I called to ask if this could be rectified, and was asked to check if I could pay for the $6 delivery fee. Apparently, taking an extra 30 seconds to try and find this change warranted me being insulted by nearby staff (what I heard paraphrased: "First she mucks up her order and now she doesn't even have money? What a mess, how disorganised/ridiculous/dare she"). But nevermind, hospitality can be stressful, and I chalked it up as just someone having a bad day, and apologized for the trouble.<br/><br/>When I found the change, and provided my address, and was told delivery would be in the next hr, I thought that was the end of it. My address is not terribly far, I've ordered from Nikos before, so I am confused about why food that takes 20 minutes to prepare(according to the conformation txt I received upon ordering) pick up took over an hr (from time of order, nearly an hour and a half) to deliver. But I thought maybe things were busy, traffic was bad, and let that also slide.<br/><br/>The part that confused me, is why the person delivering the food then waited outside in their car, and continued to make phone calls instead of delivering the food. I did not even know this as I was in the bathroom and my housemate who kept an eye out for the delivery advised me as he too was confused about tjis random car parked out front, doing nothing (I thought perhaps they might not have been able to find the address, but I received no calls). Parked outside. Multiple phone calls. On loud speaker in a multiple unit community after 6 (housemate could hear the conversation from inside the house).<br/><br/>I thought, at least the food is here, let's not make a fuss. The food arrived cold, and the chips were sweaty. It was clearly cooked early on and then just left in wait. The oysters smelled off, the lamb was dry, and I had to throw out all the food I ordered as I couldn't deem it edible.<br/><br/>I know Nikos has the ability to provide good food, which is why I ordered from them multiple times, but the rude remarks, the seemingly intentional delay, on top of deeply questionable quality vexes me.<br/><br/>I spent over an hr waiting for cold, inedible food with the added bonus of being blatantly disrespected, made to feel like garbage, because as a paying customer I made the mistake of thinking I could ask for a particular level of quality in food, and treated with a basic level of professionalism and manners (not even reaching for the stars here). I am deeply dissapointed, insulted, and feel ripped off quite frankly, with Nikos and recommend people order from literally anythjng else from anywhere else.<br/><br/>Truthfully, the only reason I'm leaving even 1 star, is because the kind employee on the phone was nothing but patient and understanding, and was the only professional and good quality part of this entire experience.

Nikos Tavern has a great greek atmosphere and the dancing and plate breaking is superb. Where other greek tavernas have gone "up market" and "restaurant" Nikos has remained faithful to tradition. This is why we go there. Food is average and over spiced/salted but to be honest we go for the rebetika at 11pm on a Saturday night. Just when all the patrons have left, we are doing a sirtaki on the blue stoned dance floor. Nikos singing at the end of the night is also reminiscent of our taverna days in greece. Bravo Nikos. To the foodies that wanna rate the souvs or pick holes in the banquet, go visit a restaurant and leave Nikos to us old-school taverna lovers.

Worst Greek ever!!!!<br/>We ordered a takeaway pack with Greek salad. Since when does Greek salad have NO cucumber, tasteless feta (obviously cheap), carrot, celery, cabbage & capsicum??? My son ordered a souvlaki and chips pack & they put the chips IN the souvlaki!!! Grumpy rude workers shouting at one another while you wait for your food. The restaurant has been in the area for a long time. God knows how it has survived. I suppose if a crappy restaurant is going to survive, it will be in Ringwood!!!

From the perspective of a sit-down take-away Friday lunch:<br/>"YUM...YUM....YUM" <br/>Super quality ingredients.<br/>Very friendly staff - gave the place an atmosphere that you just wanted to be around.<br/>Top 10 best chips.<br/>Big serves.<br/>Wasn't busy (not sure why???).<br/>Right down to the elderly mum in the back of the kitchen making sure everything was just right - Nikos absolutely hit the mark.

If i could give a negative 10 i would. This would have to be the worst service in any restaurant ive ever been in and the bloke behind the counter in the takeaway section could be the rudest person ive ever met.........Never again.

The best thing we had was the ice cream and fruit platter. Nice service but the food was below average and not really fresh. The fish platter was the major disappointment with tasteless fish and really bad prawns. Even the saganaki wasn't that good and that's really upsetting.

Probably the worse dining experience I've ever had. Service was non existent, the banquet arrived in the wrong order in 45 min gaps. Dips where ice cold from the fridge and lamb was dry and chewy. Do not recommend. Manager stood there while we complained for the third time and said nothing.

Very poor service - ordered and 40 mins later they bring our drinks and second course - forgot the first course - all staff but one lady have zero care factor - multiple tables complaining - they then bring out the salad half hour later the lamb - over two hours of the worst waiting service ever - will not be going back embarrassed for the friends we invited to have dinner there - all 8 of us!! Ended up leaving and after explaining why smart arse says have a good evening !

I would not recommend eating here. Service was terrible only 3 tables seated when we arrived. We were a table of 2 waited 15 mins to ask if we would like a drink 10 mins for drinks to arrive. 25 mins for entrees to arrive then another hour we waited before we left the table and our meals were ready so we took it as take away which was cold and paid full price without an offer to discount any of our meal. Very disappointed and won't be returning.

Sitting in the restaurant right now. Food looks brilliant. We're with a group that booked for 28 seats. Got 24. We're no where near our friends. The response from the staff was literally dumbfounded. Asked three staff members who did nothing, and simply went back to taking others orders. Will never come again.

Food was delivered more than half an hour late and after two phone calls to the restaurant. Food was cold and needed to be reheated, we complained to restaurant who took no care or responsibility. We even rang up the next day to try to talk to someone when it wasn't dinner rush but were given a tough luck response. Niko's has always had poor customer service but it was put up with because the food was always good. But with both the quality and service at such low levels we will not be returning.

Don't even waste your time!!! Really bad service!! We had the banquet and waited almost an hour before each dish was bought out!!! There was a group of us and about 5 of us got sick that night. To top it off I found a hair in my food. I know that's accidental but when u see the chef/staff always touching their hair it's not a good sign. Hate to see the state of the kitchen!!

Worst service ever!! Brought mains out before entree. Attitude from the waitress. Two out of 10 meals were incorrect. One meal got sent back twice. Gave up and ate the incorrect meal as it was 9:30pm and the other 9 people at the table had already finished their meal. Told the waitress that there was chicken in the lamb souvlaki and got told that at least there was some lamb in it!! More attitude from waitress. Dinner plates never got cleared. Had to ask for the bill. Bill was incorrect so we sent it back! Will never go back.

Firstly the positive, the setting was cosy and the service was friendly. The entree of dips were fantastic and the bread was perfect. That said everything else was extremely poor. Likely close to the worse presentation of food we have experienced from a resturent - everything packed on top of each other on small plates without any finest. We ordered the banquet and the seafood platter was fish and chip shop quality. By the way the seafood platter had 2 prawns 2 oysters and 2 small pieces of battered fish and what appeared to be supermarket dipping sauces. The greek <br/>salad contained 2 pieces of fete cheese, no olives,there was virtually no olive oil and again seemed like a bottle dressing was used. The last dissapointment was the lamb, the pieces were cut so small that you only had the crispy exterior texture not the combination of soft interior of the lamb.

Very nice food and always huge servings of meat. Amazing dips and very nice bread. The banquet is definitely an amazing deal and very hard to finish. Dont be put off if you go for lunch and its pretty much empty, I went and ordered a small banquet and they gave extra stuff! Amazing Greek food for insanely cheap. Highly recommend the pickled baby octopus and all the dips, a must have

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Ordered dinner for delivery through Menulog and never received it, even after a phone call checking on where the order was. (I was assured it was "on its way") <br/>Was spoken to rudely and did not receive an apology from the manager when I called to cancel the order at 9pm and asked for a refund- as it was an hour and a half after the order was placed! Disgusting and extremely disappointing customer service.

Nikos is hit and miss. Sometimes it's great. Sometimes you can't get someone to even come to the table. The meat mezze is fantastic value. Sometimes the meat is really gristly. And the takeaway packs have at times been cold, too much batter on the saganaki, but I love their dips and it's generally great. Zorba is a fun perk too!

Nikos is both close to my work and home therefore is my go to Greek lunch or dinner meal! I have never dined in the restaurant, but it is always crawling with both diners inside the restaurant and take away. Nikos is great value for money and taste! You see the food made fresh on the spot and I love the dips which come with the dinner packs! There are so many people working within this kitchen, sometimes it feels chaotic! But hey! They make it work, so I am not complaining. I usually order the lamb and chicken dinner pack for 1 or 2. Both chicken and lamb are always soft and tender, you also get your choice of chips, salad or veggies. Generous amounts of dip and pita bread! I have also tried their grilled calamari, definitely recommend that too! Will I be back? Of course! I have been back multiple times since my first taste of Nikos 4 months ago.

Will never get food from them again. <br/>Delivery was meant to be 1 hour, finally arrived after 1 hour & 40 minutes. <br/>The chicken looked like shredded roast chicken, not off the spit as ordered. <br/>My wife rang Nick the boss to sort out the order and he abused her, called her a liar....,<br/>Never an apology and said they were doing us a favor.

Sometimes the food can be amazing but it's very temperamental. Once I ordered deliver and found a COCKROACH in the dinner pack! Nearly vomited and all they did was bring us a replacement. I also find they can be very rude and often forget things when you order online.<br/>But when the food is good it's really good. Unfortunately since the cockroach incident I probably won't go back.

My friend and I came here last week we ordered the saganaki which was nice. But our mains took about 45 minutes to an hour to come out and the meat was so cold for something on a rotisserie how hard is it to shave a bit off and hand it out. And as its rotating over a hot coals how can it be cold? Told the waitress and said she would pass it onto the kitchen for next time definitely will not be a next time.

Having eaten here for the first time i was not impressed. The food was average, music was much to loud to talk, lack of heating and much nèeded abience.

Years ago this was the place to get great Greek food. Now it's a mess. A confused mess. The meat platter with dips and salad for two- dry chumps of meat (pal anyone?) and fat, limp overdressed sad sad salad (iceberg and tomato), mass produced flavourless dips and soggy chips all heaped together.<br/><br/>

Nikon is quite literally the worst food I have ever had!! I am Greek and I am embarrassed to have this place represent my food.

AVOID!. I have been to Nicko's a few times, I have never enjoyed the food or the atmospheer but tonight was the worst and I will never step foot in that joke of a greek restaurant again! It started off badly when I called to book, the guy answered the phone rudely, spoke rudely and became evident he had squeezed us in the already overbooked and understaffed Saturday night. our table of 4 was shoved down the back behind 2 big groups, we were compleetly forgotten about all night, no table service what so ever, our booking was at 8, we received menus at 8.30, came back to order at 9.15. Our waiter kept saying how busy and understaffed they were, the staff looked so over whelmed, clearly they were all young and inexperienced, I feel sorry for them working at a dump like this. the pita bread was oily and soggy, the rubbery calamari disgusting quality, couldn't even chew it! A rubber eraser would have been more satisfying, the lamb was absolute crap on a plate, fatty, oily cold, I actually feel like vomiting thinking of the taste, salad was ok on a good note but who can't make a salad? Walking out and hearing and seeing the way the staff were being treated all makes sense... By other reviews o don't know how this place has any business at all, if they were anywhere closer to the city they wouldn't last!

The most disappointing dinner I've ever had. Started off okay with some dips to share, then half a main meal came out and that was it for 40 minutes. After reminding the waiter that we were still in the restaurant, he apologized and said the kitchen was busy, I then kindly told him that tables that had ordered after us already had their food-some had already left...then when it finally all arrived, it wasn't hot. Terrible, oily and off tasting. The manager should be more focused on how his kitchen is working than the horrendously loud music he plays. Do not go there

It's just like Greece!. This place is fantastic! The food is Greek, the people are Greek, the atmosphere is Greek! Authentic and brilliant. No it's not perfect, not it's not 5 star dining, but if you want an authentic experience, this is the place! Perfectly cooked meat you never need to add salt to! Yum!!!!!

We ordered take away and it is safe to say it was the worst food I have ever tasted.Extremely fatty, tasteless, not fresh and cold. Even my kids didn't eat all their chips which never happens! Don't go there.

Disgusting food and management.. Have given this restaurant many chances over the years to improve, but their meat is continuously gritty and their salads are never fresh. But what disgusts me most about this place is the managers. The kitchen is situated near the bar/takeaway pick up area and every time I have gone here, I have seen either or both the woman and man managers yelling/swearing at their staff. Their behaviour is atrocious and honestly, I can't hold the bad service against the waiters/waitresses when clearly they just cop abuse from their bosses constantly. So unprofessional.

Food was average, place was noisy and waiters were either grumpy or sleazy.

Won't go there again. Needed one non seafood/ fish free meal first thing that comes out was salmon dip, waitress reply was didn't think you were serious! Then the meat that come out was the driest toughest piece of crap known to man! Never going back!!!!

Seniors greek club. Fifty of us seniors went .to Nikos tavern. for our Xmas break up party<br/>All I can say that the only good thing about the food in that place were the dips and salad <br/>The fish were not fit for human consumption the meat dishes were very dry and uneatable<br/>The owner didn't not even apologise<br/>Definitely we will not be going there again

Xmas get together - girls night out.. We had the best night at Nikos Tavern last night, an abundance of great food, plenty to drink, great company, plate smashing and dancing. The food was sensational and our waiter Marcus looked after us. One of our girls was Greek and she explained all about the dancing - we got up and gave it a shot, we had strangers on the dance floor take the time to teach us Aussies!!! Just when you thought it was finished, the band just kept giving. We danced and plate smashed until the early hours of the morning and all the time our waiter kept us well hydrated. Highly recommended, cant wait to return.

Sorry im not Greek!. The takeaway at Nikos is usually pretty good but gee... my dining experience was almost embarrassing.... the Greek people on tables nearby seemed to be getting all the attention... my friend's salad looked like it was dropped on the plate and the length of time we had to wait was unreasonable... food was ok but service def needs attention!

Work Function. Nikos use to have a good name so we decided to have a function for 10 of us.<br/>Started bad with waiter asking us for drinks 20+ minutes after arriving with only another 10 or so people there.<br/>Then waited around 20 minutes for more drinks after finishing first lot.<br/>Ordered Entrée & they advised us 15 minutes after we ordered there was no white bait available so we ordered mussels. Then advised they were not available.<br/>We asked the young guy to count the entrees we ordered & confirm there was 10 to avoid mistakes. He confirmed ok . 9 Entrees arrived & after waiting 30 minutes we asked where is the 10th. They said we thought you were sharing one. ? Ha, we even confirmed we had 10 on order ?<br/>Main meal arrived & we were all well & truly over this place.<br/>They even suggested a tip at the end.<br/>Imagine if they were busy, This was a Wednesday night.<br/>This place is a disaster & never, ever again

How is this place still in business?. Terrible!. The food is like 6 day old scraps from a real greek reaturant Raw floured fish and calamari, poo smelling mussles, rubber octopus and jerky like gyros. F@$#&ing crimals charging people hard earn cash for that crap. It makes fish and chips look gourmet. NEVER AGAIN !

Awesome greek. Had lunch with large group sunday as soon as the tavern opened. Ordered a mixed grill for 2 and it was fresh and yum. Have been to Nikos 4-5 times as well as ordering kebabs takeaway and have always loved it.

Great food, rude staff. The guys that answers the phone is just plane rude every time. We argue over who is going to call in our take away order.

Take heed from the poor reviews, it IS the worst Greek you'll experience. Attended Nikos Tavern for a friend's birthday, so had no choice in my attendance. Paid $40 for a banquet menu. Seated we had dips/bread and cheese, but waited almost an hour later for a very average seafood dish with cold chips, unsure what the coating was of the mostly deep fried fish, but it was hideous. Majority of this dish went un-eaten. <br/>The vegetarians on our table were offered a separate veggie meal option, out of the three people who took up this option, only one got a veggie meal. <br/>It was almost two hours later (around 10.30pm) that we were given salad and a meat plate. The meat was varied temperatures, some cold, some hot. <br/>The gimmick here is the plate smashing experience. If you enjoy spending $40 on smashing plates, go for it, but food wise, this place was terrible. <br/>The service was average, the birthday cake had to be requested four times.<br/>Wouldn't return here. Wouldn't recommend Nikos Tavern to anyone.

Would not recommend to anyone. Disgraceful customer service beyond belief. Slow, rude, clueless. Staff couldn't even be bothered getting more glasses for the jugs of softdrink we bought.<br/>Food was just as bad. Microwaved chips, old salad that looked like it was from peoples leftover meals. Just a plate of slop....rippedoffagain. What a shocker. I regret to say this is the worst Greek slop I have ever been served up. The lamb was as tough as leather & stone cold. We think it was cut yesterday and cooked again. We asked for specific things just like a normal Greek restaurants but the salad, vegies and meat were all slopped together in a pile on one plate. The vegies looked like they were cooked last week and the salad was discoloured and possibly three days old. We asked three times for a drink. How a chef could let that slop out of the kitchen and end up on our table beggars belief. If I told you the rest you would not belive me. Never again. Score out of 10....ZERO.

Appalling service. Had been here many years ago with family and had enjoyed it. Called to make a booking for my brothers birthday. First call was received by an extremely grumpy man. At first with his attitude I thought I had called a wrong number. I hung up and called the number again to have it answered by the same guy. When simply asking for a reservation his attitude was of complete disinterest as if it was a burden... A table for 7 on a Tuesday I thought would have been good for business... After 5 mins painstakingly trying to make a booking I have up. I would never recommend this place if this is the service you receive on the phone let alone what it would be like when dining in. Having seen how bad the service is dinkng from other reviews now I am grateful I hung up on him...

Don't waste your money. Have always warned to go to Niko's and finally went for Mother's Day dinner 2014. What a waste. Service was hopeless, place was really noisy. Waitress didn't really care and the food was very average and floating in oil. Had the meat banquet for 14 of us - dips were meant to be eaten with one skimpy piece of cob loaf (or something similar) per person. 2 small platters each of chicken, lamb and beef in the way of meats to serve 14 of us, with accompanying vegetable/salad also being 2 small platters of salad, vegetables swimming in oil and chips. Not enough for all of us and went home hungry. Don't split bills either. Wouldn't recommend and certainly won't be returning.

Clearly any good reviews of this restaurant are written by the staff. Being a third generation Greek and growing up with authentic Greek foods I can honestly say this was the WORST GREEK FOOD I and my family have ever had. Since when was Pastitsio made with Capsicum, Corn, Snow Pea, Broccoli & any other off cuts of vegetables you could find? NEVER. Seriously what were you thinking when you decided to put that in? That's right you weren't, like you weren't thinking when you threw Carrot, Capsicum, Celery, Green Olives & Shallots into what should have been a Greek Salad ain't nothing Greek about this place maybe only the morons name in the place. The food is bland, tasteless and is nothing like Greek cuisine. Avoid this place I'm sure it will disappoint you as much as it did us, unless of course you've never tried Greek food. Try another Greek restaurant.

Good food. But no customer service.. Been going to Nikos a while ordering take away souvlakis but the customer service on the phone is terrible. They are rude and just hard to deal with. It's like they don't want you business can't be bothered. Food is good but sometimes I just can't be bothered trying to pull teeth to order my take away.

Very average. Lamb was overcooked, dry and almost burnt. Seafood platter not great, also overcooked and dry. Service was the great plus point and portions generous. Will probably not visit again

This is not the best Greek you will eat but the plate smashing and Zorba dancing makes it a fun night out with friends.. Go, eat & make some memories with friends :)

Worst greek I've had!. Firstly one waitress servicing entire restaurant was disgraceful. To top it off she was extremely rude. We had the banquet, but they never brought out the lamb, the dessert or the coffees, pathetic! When asked about this, the rude waitress stated she was too busy! Being of Greek heritage I must say the food was really bad. Oily, inconsistently cooked, tasteless. Sorry but we really didnt like this place, even just based on the food, let alone the rude service.

I ate here last night with a group of friends, and have to say I didn't enjoy it. The service was actually good- our waitress was attentive and very sweet. She was the best part of the whole experience. We ordered the seafood grill platter for two... It was a complete rip off. $50 dollars for mostly salad and chips! When it says grill, I expect it to be grilled- not all deep fried! What we had could have come from a fish n chip shop! Except... All of it was soggy and so greasy! The flavor was lacking and overall, it was NOT worth the money. Left feeling hungry and gross- I expected way more - more Greek flavors, more GRILL, more fresh ingredients. Overall, so disappointed and will not be back.

Get a better attitude!!!. We regularly eat Nikos Take-away EVERYTIME we order our meals are wrong!<br/>How can ordering Single packs be so hard Niko's?<br/>I applaud you for employing ppl from ALL walks of life but find it EXTREMELY frustrating when ph ordering from a menu that was picked up at the Take -Away counter is apparently a Dine In menu??<br/>Then why not have Take-Away menu's instead of asking if we are on the internet ordering or Dine In menu??<br/>Yes we may not want the Lamb or Quail just the sausage in our single packs or we may ask for Gluten free dips & bread but seriously is it that hard to do because its not programed into your computer register?<br/>And I have now worked out that the person who ALWAYS has a smart mouthed word to say is Niko's daughters husband..<br/>He may think he is humorous but sorry mate your NOT you are abusive & rude and seriously should be shown the door before you run this well established iconic restaurant into the ground!!!!

Worst Greek meal ever!!!. The service was slow and disorganised. The food was not good at all. We had the saganaki which was undercooked and like rubber. We also ordered grilled octopus which was tough and covered in a sweet pickle like sauce. Not the traditional greek flavours one would expect. Finally, we decide to try and finish the evening on a positive by ordering a Frappé, a traditional greek iced coffee. The response from the staff..." What's that? I've worked here for 7 years and I've never heard of that? " You call yourself a greek restaurant and you don't even serve one of the most popular Greek beverages after Ouzo. Never returning here. Worst greek restaurant ever.

Don't go if in a hurry!. Arrived at 6.45pm. People that arrived after us were attended to before taking our order. After 3 quarters of an hour I went up to the bar to ask about our wine order that we had placed with our waitress and was informed that our waitress had still not placed our order. Our waitress finally delivered our wine, showed the bottle and could not pronounce "Pinot Grigio". Sadly very bad service.

Great service, good food. As usual, the food was prompt, the service was polite, and everything tasted great and was in very generous serves. A discount was provided without request for our wine, when the one we ordered wasn't available, and they were completely unconcerned about the unfortunate mess our toddlers were making ... will continue to come here regularly.

Get him to the greek!. I love this place....have only ever had the meat mezze or the banquet but on all occasions i have never been dissapionted.<br/>The food is served freshly and promptly with just enough time in between courses.<br/>dips, salads, seafood and meat are very tasty!<br/>cant wait to go back!

It has been at least 15 years since my last visit to Nikos Tavern & I will not be returning. After arriving we had to convince the Waitress that we hadn't Booked for a Banquet after dishes started arriving on out table without us even looking at the Menu she tried to convince us that we had. After sorting this out we ordered off the Menu & our meals arrived fairly promptly which was great. Several of our group had some problems with the Dishes that we had ordered & after our waitress initially being disinterested with our complaints the host did to his credit come & speak to us & tried his best to make up for our disappointment & did give us a discount on our Bill so credit where credit is due but I won't be back. Overall a nice venue for a group & pleasant atmosphere but even though the servings were quite generous I wouldn't say that the food was anything special.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! When calling to make a pick up order for two kebabs the males that normally answer the phone can not comprehend adding or subtracting an ingredient that might I add is on their menu under the extras!!! Which makes the total time of making the order at least 10 minutes which most of it is spent in silence while the men do not know how to work the register properly! When you pick up the order they are rude and not polite in anyway! The kitchen situated at the front of the restaurant if full of staff being yelled at in front of customers and made to look stupid! Will never bother to place and order here again! (No matter how much we like their food)

I don't know what you're all on about, I'm currently 3/4 way through the banquet and it's BLOODY BEAUTIFUL! Being actual greeks, our opinion on greek food is a lot more valid than your average Joe. fantastic food with a lovely waitress!

I had heard good things about Nikos Greek Tavern and thought I was in for a fool proof feast! No greeting upon arrival left us seating ourselves, waited to order for at least an hour then along with the unwelcoming service the food was by far the worst I have ever had. Avoid this place if you can!

This place used to be awesome, meat was always beautifully cook. Now the meat is fatty and chewy, there is no juice anymore its just dry, cheap cuts of meat. What amazes me is that people are still going here? How about this place pick up there act and actually give their customers what they are paying good money for. And screaming at your staff does just make you look like an idiot (guess it was the manager) either close the business down or cook how it used to be. Because the crap your serving make it seem like you cant be bothered anymore.

The manager (niko?) is an absolute tool. Has a go at staff and customers all the time. Dinner pack is great - massive meal to takeaway. Positive for food, negative for service because of niko

Went for dinner with a friend. Meals were average. Large serving sizes. Lamb was a bit over cooked. But red headed waitress was very helpful and attentive. May return.

Mrs Nelly. Had dinner with 16 work colleges at Nikos tavern 19/7/13 terrible food , Prawns overcooked probably just bought frozen cooked . Chicken taste like cooked supermarket chicken . Meat was dry and tasteless . Big despoilment my friends have same opinion . Internment was ok . We will never book party there again .
