The atmosphere food, wine and service are second to none!
As you walk in to the establishment you quickly realise the amount of detail and work that has gone into transforming the beautiful space into something very special, giving it that upmarket 50’s diner vibe with its dark green crushed velvet booths to its amazing vintage tumblers.. there is a sense of romance in this place!
The chef did an amazing job on the food and the cocktail slingers kept us hydrated with some amazing drinks!!
Would definitely go back
Post renovation bliss!! Amazing food, taste, texture, presentation. It was all just delicious!! The best customer service you’ll get in Melbourne. Spewing that I’m no longer living locally! The venue ties it all together beautifully!
Fantastic customer service, great music playing at just the right volume, great food (especially the duck fat potatoes) prices got a little hectic on the menu but that was more than made up for by how great everything else was!

Loving the new renovations and the great cocktail list , finally a great place in the area
Great place good food great wine list and cocktails
The service here is so good. All of the staff both wait staff and bar staff are so friendly and give amazing recommendations. I’ve been here a few times both with friends and my husband and we’ve always had a great experience! The food is amazing and their wine and cocktail menu is extensive but top quality. Highly recommend.
Food is just beautiful
One of my all time favorites

If I could only eat one meal for the rest of my life, the eggplant chips here would be it. I don't particularly love eggplant and was hesitant to order them, but the waitress said they were the most popular item on the menu, so I threw caution to the wind. Holy. Wow. The best, and I do mean THE BEST, chips I've ever had in my life. They were incredible. The beef brisket was also amazing, as were the chicken wings and cauliflower. The wine was such a good price at $30 for a 500ml carafe. This is such a beautiful, cosy place, right opposite Ripponlea Station. I'm so glad I found it. I have a feeling there's going to be significantly more eggplant chips in my life henceforth.
Had been here before for drinks but didn’t know the food was this good! Came here on a cold Monday night and ordered the Brussel sprouts special as an entree which came with an onion jam and a crumb that tasted like bbq crisps but worked so perfectly I couldn’t believe it. I hope it’s on the regular menu when I return because it was seriously good. The mushroom and ricotta ravioli with mushroom butter sage sauce and hazelnuts was delicious as was the fried potato gnocchi with beef short rib ragu! A great hearty meal in a cozy local haunt
I drive past this place on a daily basis en route to work and as my morning journeys start way before their opening time, I really only get to see it in action during my evening drives back.
Night after night, I get a glimpse of the chic, charming interior (after renovation) come to life with patrons of all ages chattering away over their meals or even just drinks.
Drawn to its relaxed and intimate ambience, we came by for lunch upon my suggestion. Even in broad daylight, this place oozed style and cosiness. The section with booth seatings was very tempting, but considering what a lovely, mild sunny day it was, we chose to sit by the window and watch the world go by.
My partner requested to be surprised with a glass of red of some sort and kudos to the young lady on her excellent choice! It was a smooth, medium-bodied Grenache with a dry finish. Me? I just got the humble orange juice. Lol!
Our entrées of Steak Tartare and Prawn Cocktail were a delicate play on both texture and presentation. Anticipating for more than that one king prawn sitting atop a bed of crab meat, it didn’t really matter in the end as the cocktail sauce sealed the deal. The steak tartare could’ve done away with a little less acidity to allow the beef to shine through more, yet it still worked a treat with the waffle crisps that came on the side.
The mushroom-lover me spoke louder than my carnivorous side that day, so the Mushroom Ravioli it was for me. Tossed in sage butter and finished with a drizzle of truffle oil, there was a lot of earthiness to this dish. It would’ve been perfect had the ravioli not been dry around the edges. So much so that it hardened with time, leaving me to graze around it towards the end.
My partner ended up ordering the Crispy Gnocchi With Smoked Beef Short Rib & Sugo when the Chicken With Sundried Tomato Pesto listed on the Specials wasn’t available. The sugo had just the right amount of tartness to cut through the richness of the gnocchi and beef so it didn’t feel heavy at all.
We had an Entertainment Book voucher (25% off up till $30 if I’m not mistaken) with us so that in itself was a bonus. With or without the voucher, it was a delightful experience regardless.
Enjoyed dinner the other week here with my boyfriend. I had the mushroom ravioli which was lovely. Not huge portion sizes but they encouraged share meal options. Seating was initially a bit too close for comfort for us, however after a few wines was not an issue as forgot about the others around us. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would return for another intimate dining experience with friends.
First time at the Ripponlea Food and Wine Bar, even though it was a busy Saturday night the service was fantastic, very friendly courteous staff including I think the manager, sorry I did not think to ask. The food was fabulous. Just one little complaint that my son did not get the wine he wanted as they had run out of that particular wine. So not happy with the sommelier or whoever keeps the wine stock in check. Otherwise will visit again and again if we get the same service and great food.
I ordered more but the food was gone before I could capture the action 🤤 But boy oh boy this place has mastered the attention to detail! Amazing oysters (my fav) and I also ordered the fish!
I must come back though to capture more pics! Invite me back in soon guys it’s been a few years 💖
Having been here only once before, but years ago, I was eager to try this again. It's such a cool little place with funky music and nice interior in a pocket of Ripponlea that you may not think to go to at night once the shopping district is shut.
Their menu sounded delicious, so thought we'd give it a whirl. The food was really good. I had the Tuna Tartare, the Mushroom Ravioli and the Brown Sugar and Vanilla Cheesecake. The food for the most part was on point. But the service is where the restaurant lets you down at times.
On three separate occasions, they forgot the drinks. They just can't remember to bring them out and there's no apology. Thankfully the drink that NEVER SHOWED, was off the bill, so that was at least a battle I didn't have to get into. They were busy without being frantic, but the service was slow. The food came out slowly and drinks just didn't come or came late. One thing I thought they'd do that other restaurants of a similar calibre do, is know which person ordered what. They don't know. But look, overall, it's definitely worth a trip here. The food is good and I guess that's what really counts. There's a good selection of wine (obviously) and something for most palates. There's plenty of parking and prices are pretty reasonable. I just wish you didn't have to remind people to bring out drinks. It did put a mini damper on the night ... but I would come again one day.

Ripponlea Food and Wine is a local favourite that’s still going strong. Its key-shaped dining room creates a sense of privacy no matter which table you’re seated at. The Eggplant Chips with miso and sesame crumb is one of the many great starters available.
A really nice place with a classic design. Have a really nice entree and main. Have to try their buttermilk cauliflower and their grilled whole chicken is amazing. Very recommended.
Ripponlea Food & Wine has a perfect corner position on Glen Eira Road opposite Ripponlea Station. I was invited to try their Express Lunch menu which is available Monday to Friday between 11am & 4pm.
Offering 2 courses plus a glass of wine & coffee for $35 or 3 courses for $42, the Express Lunch is an amazing deal & perfect for business lunches or catch ups. As you’d expect from an express lunch, the service is fast & efficient which is ideal for the time poor.
I loved the interior of this venue. Dimly lit, moody with stunning lighting. One section is set up with tables & the other has super cool booths & seats at the bar. They also have an area that you can book for meetings and functions.
The Express Lunch menu is limited which makes it easy to choose from. We decided on 2 courses, washing it down with wine which is on tap & coffees.
We ordered the Mushroom, white truffle & parmesan croquette served with a rosemary aioli and the Chipotle Prawns on crostini served with butter lettuce and crispy onion. Both entrees were superb, the croquettes were creamy & soft and the prawns were perfectly cooked.
For mains I selected the Spaghetti with broccolini, basil, lemon zest & goats curd. The flavours married so well together & the goats curd added a rich & creamy texture. It was a generous serving & I didn’t get through it all. My friend ordered the Chicken, leek & tarragon pot pie with home-made tomato relish. Another fantastic dish with a top of deliciously flaky puff pastry.
The service was also fantastic, the girl who served us was clearly passionate about her job & it made for a memorable experience.
My friend has since introduced her father to Ripponlea Food & Wine and he now takes clients there regularly.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience & highly recommend both the Express Lunch and also the venue in general. Thank you so much for such a great time.
Good. Great. Fantastic. The food was lovely. We over ordered. Had a good waitress who was attentive and prompt and listened to all our orders. The food was really delicious. They forgot to give us the potatoes but we didn’t really need them anyway. The fish tasted lovely and the cauliflower was a highlight and so was the Brocholini. I recommend this as a good place to visit. Also the eggplant chips were awesome.
I came here with a group of friends last minute late on a weeknight.
Modern Australian in a dark moody intimate setting. Lots of soft lighting, wood, dark metal. I enjoyed my experience here. This feels right for the Ripponlea market. I particularly enjoyed the musings of the sassy staff. She had spunk that's for sure.
Needing some lunch. I looked in the entertainment book and gave this one a go. I was very pleased with my choice. Very good menu for lunch and the steak tartare was very tasty. Staff was very attentive and definitely will be back.
We stopped in here late in the evening for a quick snack. It’s quite an impressive little place! The sliders were the definite highlight, I could have eaten 10 of each I think. The prawn slider was fresh and light and beautiful. The eggplant chips were also a standout, I highly recommend these!
The service was also great, with the waitress being very attentive and helpful. I recommend.
Friends brought us here for a celebration dinner and this place did not disappoint us. Very cosy and nicely set out. I quite like the side by side table for 2 seatings. We ordered the following dishes
1) Eggplant chips - looked like those chunky chips but made of eggplant instead, it went well with the dipping sauce
2) Calamari - the texture was made just right - nothing to complain about
3) Beefballs - the sauce was not bad but the beef was a bit too dry for my liking
4) Kid's fish and chips - my kids liked them and they were the above average kid's menu standard
5) Wagyu steak - nicely done medium rare, juicy and tasty
6) Fish - cooked well with crispy skin and tasted not bad
7) Sides - beans and kiffler potatoes - nicely done and this was what made me gave 4 stars instead of 3.5 stars. The chef showed me they cared about every dish :)
Overall, I quite enjoyed my friends' recommendation and no doubt will come back to try again.
We had a super early lunch here recently and had the place to ourselves! We had a mini feast with the sliders, eggplant chips, kale salad and crab pasta. The pasta was delicious in particular, really full in flavour! I also really enjoyed the prawn slider, I’d be interested to go back for dinner, thinking the vibes at night would be good!
Had dinner here on the weekend. Loved the interior design, very Art Deco. Had a few little issues to start involving confusion with orders but apart from that the food was tasty and the service was friendly. For entree we shared the salt and pepper squid. The squid was perfectly tender and piping hot. Then for main I went for the pork cotoletta with apple and fennel slaw. I had originally been intending to order the steak but they had run out. The cotoletta was cooked well but I felt that the slaw was a little heavy on the creamy dressing. We also shared a side of the green beans with hazelnut crumb and goats curd. A nice and fresh side dish to complement the heavy pork. The rabbit pasta also received rave reviews.
Excellent and friendly service. Tasty food with generous servings. The Baci and Golden Gaytime desserts were ridiculously decedent and very tasty.
Accommodating staff to a group of 10 with no booking at 9pm. Food was very tasty. They didn't mind splitting the bill. Waitress was on the ball. Front of house lady with thick glasses was lovely.
It’s an exciting place to be, Ripponlea. In the heart of the bagel-belt, it’s really quite tranquil. The Dear Luncher enjoys tranquillity when it comes to dining and thankfully Ripponlea Food and Wine offer this up in spades. It’s a versatile venue. Billed as “kinda hood on the outside. Seriously classy on the inside” RF&W manages to effortlessly straddle the line between bar and restaurant – which creates a sense of comfort. It’s OK to just perch at the bar for a beer, or lounge in a booth for hours and eat like a Lord.
I love finding suburban gems like this! Mr B and I ventured out to Ripponlea to enjoy what this restaurant had on offer on a Saturday evening. We had booked in advance for 6:30, which I would recommend as the dining area was quickly filled not long after our arrival. Our friendly and helpful host showed us to our table and took our Chef's Menu order enthusiastically.
Dishes started to arrive one by one. Starters included two of their bruschetta, the Heirloom tomato, crispy basil & mascarpone and the Zucchini, sesame, mint & tahini, both very fresh and flavourful. Following these the amazing Bresaola arrived, which blew my mind with it's creaminess and perfect level of saltiness. I absolutely loved it! Next to arrive was the very pretty Market fish ceviche with local citrus, mint & pomegranate. Not as strongly flavoured as I would have liked, but very nice nonetheless. Next the waiter brought us what he described as the 'good stuff' which included the Mac & cheese with jalapeño mayo & pickle and the Spring lamb & pine nut croquettes with pesto mayonnaise. The Mac & Cheese was creamy and tasty in their perfectly sized mini burgers. The croquettes were a surprisingly delicious nugget of perfection! Next to arrive was the main meal, which comprised of the Crispy skin barramundi with radicchio, basil, orange, pomegranate & fennel salad with sides of Rosemary & garlic roast kipfler potatoes and Radicchio, endive, cos & lemon dressing salad. The fish was cooked perfectly, with beautiful flavours. The potatoes decadent and delicious. The salad possibly a little unnecessary considering you get a similar salad on the plate with the fish. Lastly came dessert in the form of the the wonderfully dramatic Baci bomb, described as a dark chocolate sphere with baci biscuits, hazelnut semifreddo & orange spiked chocolate sauce. The sauce is a hot sauce, poured over the top of the bomb, which slowly melts in front of your eager eyes! Loved the flavours here, where the chocolate and nuttiness were not overwhelmed by the sweetness.
Highly recommend this suburban nook of a restaurant. Obviously very popular with the locals and I can see why. A lovely night and money well spent!
Culinary darling Ripponlea Food and Wine pleases with an ethos of using seasonal produce sourced which celebrates the season’s best. The restaurant has recently undergone a facelift and has just reopened with a glamorous cocktail bar extension (designed by Black Milk) together with a spanking new menu and commendable wine list - perfect for indulging in the new intimate cocktail style bar.
Fantastic venue for a wine & long lunch/dinner with extremely friendly & attentive staff. Interior set-up is spacious that helps create an excellent atmosphere. Food is very good, however perhaps slightly overpriced for portions that are on the smaller side & flavour quality that isn’t world class (but still very good). Happily return for another lazy evening.
We came here on Saturday when it was absolutely bucketing down with rain for a long lunch. It’s a perfect cosy place!
Having just reopened the fit out is great, however I actually had never been here prior so can’t compare it to what it used to be like.
We had a lovely French young man serve us all afternoon who was a delight!
Moving on to the food we just ordered share plates - Lamb + pine nut croquettes, Crispy Squid, a couple of crostini, Eggplant chips, Chicken Ribs and finished off with a cheese plate. Everything was spot on, food spaced well so we didn’t end up with everything at once. We finished our long lunch at 6pm :)
They an extensive cocktail list (we had the Hip Hop Hooray and A Little Fusey) and also they have wine on tap, which they kindly let us try prior to deciding what we would like. We opted with the Pinot Noir which was really good being a tap wine.
Even though we don’t live in the area we agreed we would definitely make the trip back again.
Went in to have a look at their new winter menu.Great range of options for brunch. The pear porridge was great and a nice little surprise in the middle. The salad was amazing. The burger had many flavours. We added fried chicken which had a great coating. The wagyu is great. You can tell the quality in the beef.Very happy and would return.
Beautiful food - we loved the small burgers and Ange the head waitress was nothing short of professional and funny... loved her! She made sure we didn't wait any longer as we had to leave at a certain time - she made our experience
Had dinner here with a friend last night. Great experience from start to finish. The lady I booked with on the phone was lovely. When we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted by another friendly and lovely waiter; we were served by another two staff during our meal - every staff member we encountered was helpful and cheerful, including the lovely waitress on her second shift :) I shared the meatballs of the day with my friend, with a rocket salad - all delicious and good portion size. We had the espresso martini bread and butter pudding for dessert, which was divine. Good wines by the glass. If you're looking for a cosy spot to have dinner with great staff, food and wine, this is a wonderful choice.
Beautiful, had dinner here the other night and all the food was amazing. Highly recommend the ravioli, delicious and good serving size. The golden gay time dessert is nice, but the cheese platter was a stand out, quality cheese with a generous size of a sides.
Come here time and time again. Great spot, just opposite Ripponlea train station. The quality of the food is always consistent. Breakfast is so good, we have brought several different friends here when they're visiting. A bit upset that they've taken the ham hock croquette off the menu as it was one of our favourite things. The maple bacon is to die for. The fresh orange juice is always tasty. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good jaffles. The only thing that disappoints is the hash brown, it's very greasy and not much flavour. The Rosti is ok, but the quinoa option is probably the best. Will definitely be back, fingers crossed the ham hock croquette will make a come back.
An intimate, earthy ambience sets the tone for this lovely restaurant. Came for dinner on a Saturday night with some girlfriends and even though the place way busy and doors were open to the surrounds and sounds of Ripponlea train station it didn't feel overpowering or claustrophobic.
Service was impeccable, the waitresses were friendly, helpful and informative. We decided we'd get a mixture of share plates so we could try a bit of everything. Started with the eggplant chips with burnt onion aioli (yum!), corned crumbled scallops, followed by the ricotta stuffed ravioli with wild mushrooms and leeks (my favourite) and a side of seasonal greens. We decided to have 2 desserts- absolute indulgence! We tried the dessert special of the evening- Smokey Black Forest Mushroom- which was essentially a magical looking deconstructed Black Forest dish; but it was too overpowered with the smokiness that I couldn't taste any cherry anymore. Pick of the day was the Snickers choc bomb, where the chocolate dome melted perfectly when drizzled with the salted caramel sauce.
Looking forward to return to try a few other of the other staples on this menu!
Outstanding service, great menu, delicious food, gorgeous ambient vibe - we love it here for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Would love a few more GF options for breakfast but otherwise, fantastic!
Really love this place! Such calm vibes and a great place for a glass of wine with friends or a delicious meal. The desserts here are insane! We love the golden gaytime and the espresso martini bread and butter pudding! We're yet to be disappointed by a single dish here- the ravioli is delicious, the mac and cheese sliders are great and the eggplant chips are to die for!
Their new cocktail bar is also great- we did not regret asking the bar man to “surprise” us with a great cocktail and certainly didn’t stop at one either!
The Entertainment Book has not only helped me save money when dining out, but has more importantly introduced me to restaurants that were never on my radar. RFW is one such example. Quite often overshadowed by the next door cafe during the daytime, it's easy to walk past and not realised what you have actually missed. The service was exceptional; I find that you can pretty much correctly gauge the quality of the service by observing how staffs deal with kids. Let's just say I would feel completely at ease about leaving my kids here with them. Not to mention that I would be assured that they will be well fed too. The bagel with beetroot relish, beetroot and beetroot chips was sensational; simple in idea but complex in flavour and texture. You have a chewy bagel topped with sweet and tangy beetroot relish, crispy and salty beetroot chips, and juicy sweet beetroots. Beautiful. My partner's dish was equally as great, and the portion of smoked salmon was deceptively small but was in fact quite substantial. The only let-down was the coffee. The skinny latte was much too weak and watery for our liking. Definitely did not hit the spot and we were soon craving for more caffeine, albeit with very full and satisfied tummies.
Very nice interior because of the dim lights and wooden texture. Staff were very helpful and filled our water every few minutes which shows how attentive and great they were. Nice Japanese plates as well! The design goes with the vibe they're aiming for. Menu was quiet small but there was enough variety to ensure you were bound to find something. Wish they had a rice based dish as well if you're feeling extra hungry. Nice interesting dessert menu as well. Thank you.
My go to coffee shop. Also make great breakfast and have some awesome staff. Highly recommended. Definitely one of the best restaurants on Ripponlea
The place looks nice with its big open windows on the corner and staff are pretty friendly and helpful. However we paid $100 pp for a meal here with 3 glasses of wine each, which I thought was really expensive for what we got. The fish was quite dry, eggplant chips and pasta special both extremely oily, cheese platter and other dishes were small servings etc. I think the prices need to reflect that its not a fancy, very high quality food type of place.
Always love coming here on the weekend for brunch and coffee, been here so many times and each and every time the staff are really friendly, coffee is great and the food exceptional. The decor has a rustic charm with the timber and exposed brick and the feel of the place is always welcoming. The new refurbishment is gorgeous!
On previous menus I have loved the corn fritters and omelette specials, however my favourite dish is their pappardelle with ragu....delicious!!!
Their boutique wine list looks pretty special too and changes all the time.
I went here a month or go at at 'let's meet @ ' dinner which was amazing! I decided to do a 'meet up ' brunch there as they have a new brunch menu. I can not say a. Ad word about it- service great! I had the brunch rosti - omg I wanted to lick the plate- my companions also loved there dishes..... I'm so glad that they delivered such tasty and well designed dishes ..... again ! 🤗😁
I love this place ... So much that I come for lunch/dinner and leave three/four hours later! Lovely staff, menu is delicious, wine selection to drool over. Once I lived around the corner, now I drive an hour to get here! Thanks RFW.
Love this place. Cosy and charming. Great coffee, friendly staff, could sit at the window seats all day and watch the world go by. Menus are fabulous, breakfast, lunch and dinner. And BYO wine... To a wine bar... Love it!!!
Absolutely divine! Dropped in for brekky with a friend, great decor lovely welcoming staff, we were welcomed in warmly seated and an order of coffees were made. We ordered the potato roest. With poached eggs and avocado- it was amazing, get here and try it now !
Great little local wine bar with good food. It's a lovely place to to sit and savour a lazy glass or two of wine. The kitchen produces some very snack friendly food. The chicken wings (the previous iteration with an asian style sticky caramel glaze) are the perfect thing with a crisp riesling. The burger is also sensational. I like the jaffle options as well, because sometimes you don't want a full meal. Just a little something to justify the extra glasses of wine! That being said the odd times I've ordered the pasta dish as well has been very rewarding.
All in all, I'm really glad to have RF&W in my neighbourhood!
Coffee is delicious, really really good. Had breakfast and for the price the portions were tiny, will stick to just coffee. Great location and atmosphere.
This place is absolutely delicious. I have no idea why it is not rated higher, as this place has absolutely no negatives. The food and service were both excellent. We were a large group and ordered copious amounts of food! Every dish was absolutely delicious!! We ordered every dessert on the menu and I was left licking the plate! I highly recommend for anyone from singles, couples or bigger groups! A wonderful treasure hidden in St Kilda East.
Booked here for lunch. We asked to change from the table adjacent to open door as it was very windy. The request wasn't a problem. We were ushered to another table further inside. The waitress was prompt in providing us with tap water and menus. They have a policy of offering a choice of opened bottles of wine and we chose a Spanish champagne. Very pleasant the meals were 2 plates and a glass of wine &30 or 1 large plate and wine for the same price. I chose the eggplant chips and polenta crumbed scallops. Delicious. My companions ordered the house smoked salmon and the pulled land and tabouli both pronounced delicious. Will return
Whoever was our waiter tonight was fantastic! He was fun & attentive and the food was great! We had the tasting menu which was heaps of food @ $58 a head - my favourite was the croquettes, but it was all pretty dam tasty! Im looking forward to my next meal here
Really nice breakfast menu. Seems like the place to go for a breakie jaffle.
Wonderful smiley, friendly, staff.
Coffee was delicious and we had a great wee spot for people watching in the window.
Would like to go back to try their evening menu.
Really cool little restaurant with funky decor and vibe. Being a huge wine & cheese fan this certainly hit the nail on the head. The date and pistachio with the cheese was pretty delicious. The jam was also quite nice, although half the serving would have sufficed. Although I appreciated the gluten free option of toast, it was quite heavy to eat before dinner, so I would I have preferred crackers to accompany the cheese for sure. My confit dick with cherry glaze was also nice, filled with lots of flavour. Duck being my favourite poultry I must say I felt the duck was far too tough and chewy. I've had confit numerous times before and it was much easier to eat.
This place is our absolute favourite!
Every culinary experience we have is measured against the benchmark that is Ripponlea Food and Wine.
The food is great, the service is impeccable and the overall atmosphere is always on point.
We will forever be fans and continue to hold this little gem as our point of reference for what we love about dining.
Wonderful engaging and helpful service - delicious small plates - the prawn, squid and eggplant chips all great. Freekah and tomato salad is wonderful. Have not tried the mains as a few small plates to share are great for groups. Not huge sizes but the flavours are great so very satisfied.
My new local thanks to moving to Elwood.
What can I say?
The staff are lovely, the atmosphere is the best, the wine list is great, even for by the glass offerings (they have by the glass specials weekly - what's not to love?), the food is delicious and they cater for coeliacs like me!
It also does the best espresso martini in Melbourne. Trust me, I have done my research.
In a nutshell;I love it.
We love this place
We have been here for Breakfast, Lunch, Aperitivo and Dinner.
Its cool and the wait staff are very attentive - they have just changed the menu and a couple of my favourites have gone but still vey good.
Great for a snack and drink
My wife and her friends also meet here for dinner regularly.
Parking is a bit hard but really good A+

I love this place, I agree with the other reviews that the food is a little overpriced. It is a wine bar and the wine is great and the service is amazing. The staff are helpful and friendly.
Got 2 small plates..pork slider was amazing and chicken ribs were nothing special. Shared the chocolate bomba dessert which was nice.. it was cool to watch the waiter pour the liquid and see it melt! Great atmosphere, good date place! A bit pricey but would return.
My partner and I went to the Ripponlea Food and wine bar a few months back and loved it. But since the menu change have not been impressed. Ok coffee and the menu would appeal to some but if your looking for a big hearty breakfast not my first choice.
For the most part, our experience with Ripponlea food and wine was good.
I do like the menu. There's small plates, medium plates and large plates. So if there's just two of you, a mix of shared small plates or a couple of medium plates is great. Larger plates for hungry couples to share or bigger groups.
The style of the food is a little unique and presented well, but not abstract and bizarre, which is great.
The food itself is pretty heavy and rich. Things like beef shin croquettes with aoili. Very nice, but you have to be a little conservative with your approach to avoid that ate-too-much-rich-food feeling.
Wine list is brief and some of the recommendations were well received.
I would generally recommend it and will go back there every now and again. Though I wouldn't make it a regular. If I had to say why, I'd say it has something to do with the atmosphere or 'mood'. The customers seem vibrant, young professionals which makes it lively. The music is the right volume, thank god, and the service is efficient and informative. If I were to make a suggestion, I'd say that the staff need to be more playful or somehow lighten up to improve the engagement or interaction. Hard to say exactly as they were generally friendly and knew their stuff. Just felt a bit distant.
Making the food a little lighter in some ways could be good. Keep some of the favourites of course, but one of us had a vegetarian mushroom pasta dish. It was very nice, full of flavour, but very buttery. After a deep fried starter with mayo, the main felt heavy! To some extent, the richness of dishes made it a little relentless and that's probably why I'd make it more of an occasional thing than a regular thing.
Delicious food and the best staff! My favourite is the 'Rosti' on the breakfast menu.
It's open every day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so it's the perfect 'go to' food spot.
Do yourself a favour and head down there.
Great service. I was a little put of when I went to the toilet and saw the state of the kitchen. Trays of food sitting on the floor and a filthy un-swept floor. I understand they are a busy place, but it's not really an excuse in my opinion.
Also the roll on my cuban sandwich was pretty stale. Waitress was lovely though so I'll still give 4 stars. Will probably go next door to Hawk and Hunter next time.
Second visit here and in contrast to the first visit the service was friendly without the attitude and the music was great. Food was very tasty and had a great freshly squeezed pear juice. Will be back.
Great food and service. Highly recommended. We had the tuna cevice, the eggplant chips, the chateau briand and the chocolate bomb. Every dish was delicious and the staff were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Yum
Quite a few people we know recommended it to us so we tried it out. All in all, very impressed! We rang up last minute and they were able to get us in. We were seated at a small bar/bench for 2. Normally I'm not a fan of this sort of seating but this there was plenty of space, the high chairs were comfortable and there was a foot rail to rest on. It was cozy & just right. Service was superb with our waiter taking the time to explain the wines & give us tastings. The wines were all great. We shared the squid dish which was cooked to perfection with flavour & texture. I had the Wagyu burger, WOW! One of the best burgers I have had in years, tender thick patty cooked perfectly, salty crispy bacon with juicy sautéed onions with a smokey melted cheese on a soft sweet brioche bun. Fries with habernero aioli on the side were the perfect accompaniment. My only small gripe is they were a little light on with their pours of the red wine. Maybe consider putting a mark on the glasses? Aside from that spot on.
This place is awesome! Had brunch here with a group of friends for the first time and will definitely be back. Service and food was great! Good music and ambience :)
Great breakfast. The maple bacon, poached egg with potato rosti and hollandaise is amazing, great coffee along with service!
Great food. Love the food, atmosphere and service! Great job!

This is a ripper of a restaurant, tucked in next to Ripponlea train station. Staff are attentive without being intrusive, hipster without being arrogant. And the food is really, really tasty. Asian style chicken ribs are a winner, and the beef croquettes and quinoa & lentil salad also great. Will be back. In fact... booked in again when we paid the bill.
Great neighbourhood bistro. Nice cosy dining space, friendly service and really nice food.
The calamari was absolutely sensational, the roast chicken pappardelle was good. And the golden gaytime was complex and a delicious finish to the meal.
Our only disappointment was the relatively small wine list. I guess with having ‘wine’ in the restaurant name you assume there will be a wide selection.
First I'd like to start off by mentioning how friendly & warm all of the staff were. They definitely contributed to the relaxed atmosphere this place has to offer.
The food itself was wonderful, I especially loved the Calamari & the Cauliflower Florets. The cocktails menu while small was pretty well done. I had the Goombay Smash & the Unicorn Tears. Would definitely recommend both.
The food is a little on the pricey side however, it was a good night overall!
Probably one of the most comfortable and cosiest restaurants in Melbourne especially on a winters night.
The staff are exceptionally friendly and provided our group with excellent service. ( A big shout out to Carlos who looked after us really well and gave us great advice on the menu without being pushy] Food was fab and beautifully prepared.
We had a great night and we will most definitely be back. Great vibes all round.
Nice neighbourhood eatery. Had very flavoursome mushroom gnocchi and golden gaytime dessert. Intimate atmosphere and attentive staff
What a fantastic experience and why I love this place so much. Faultless food, service, and ambience. Not one thing I could fault. For a lovely night out with friends or a great date night this is your place. Shout out to Molly who was everything you would want in a waitress, knew her stuff, just the right amount of attention and all done with smile. 10/10
Absolutely fabulous! Every time I’ve visited the staff have been beyond lovely. Georgia always warmly welcomes you with a smile. The food was all delicious, especially the crab pasta & ceviche. Definitely recommend, the whole team were fab and overall a great experience.
Never been served by nicer staff. Came in on Valentines Day, staff were lovely, food was great and the extra touches like the little love hearts on the table were so cute. Would be great to have the year of the wine listed next to it on the menu 😊
The perfect start to our Saturday evening out. We shared five entrees, each one a winner, and two cocktails. The service was excellent, we felt welcomed and were looked after throughout our stay. Will definitely be back again
