Hawk and Hunter is bold, bright and beautiful. Inside, the brightly accented walls and light furniture keep the venue looking crisp and modern. There’s a mix of communal seating and smaller tables and it attracts trendy groups of young friends and older couples alike. Staff are very friendly and happy to help, but just need to be a little more vigilant when it’s busy. Coffee is light and smooth, it’s too easy to drink and you’ll find yourself quickly ordering a second. We’ve visited several times. The first time I opted for a sweet breakfast, choosing the French Toast. The gianduja sauce was divine, and the real hero of the dish. The portion of french toast was generous and well cooked. I’m pleased to see they have now changed the menu to remove the pumpkin puree from this dish, replacing it (I think) with a marmalade curd. The pumpkin brought nothing to the dish and was completely drowned out by that glorious chocolate sauce. This time I chose a savoury breakfast, the eggplant rollatini. My friend chose the avocado mash. Both were gorgeous, the ingredients balanced well, and flavours were delicious.Overall a great brunch venue. I find the restaurants and cafes around this area tend to lift their game, trying to be a little “fancy” – possibly as a result of nearby Attica, but its nice to see that in the several months we’ve been visiting, Hawk and Hunter are finding their niche with nice, but not overly complicated food.

I had a delicious VEGAN Date and Walnut breakfast loaf this morning here. 2 thick slices served with jam, a great coffee, and lovely outside seating in the sun. A great breakfast spot with vegan options, this will be a favourite spot for us.

Turning point cafe is the perfect local cafe if you’re in the Ripponlea area. The cafe is very spacious with a lot of natural light and the staff is very friendly!

The Warm Cajun Chicken Salad was absolutely delicious! The meal tasted very fresh and healthy with the perfect amount of dressing. I chose to add a side of avocado which really added to the overall taste of the dish.

The Avocado Bruschetta was a lovely mousey texture and blended in really well with the dill cream cheese. It is a unique and high quality avocado dish that I would definitely go back!

We also paired our meals with the passion fruit iced tea and the mint to be melon smoothie which were both extremely refreshing!

This cafe is situated right next to the Ripponlea station, which is highly convenient! Love the modern sleek wooden design too - an insta friendly neon sign and all!

Coffee is pretty good and that’s enough to win me over (some brunch places really don’t make good coffee these days).

As for food, we went for something classic and experimental in this cafe. Appreciate the kitchen’s flexibility - they allowed us to customise the eggs benedict and pair the smoked salmon with fried kale (because we don’t eat beef).

I loved the fried kale and after sprinkling them on my potato rosti, the dish was quite interesting - the light and airy fried kale texture went well with the crispy potato rosti. Quite different compared to other eggs ben in melb!

As for the kimchi waffles, I thought the Korean fried chicken was tender and coated with a lot of spicy gochujang sauce, but somehow didn’t quite work with waffles. We wiped out the pickled cabbage though!

All in all a good brunch experience and will be back to try the other dishes! Kinda wish there were more porky dishes on the menu (we don’t eat beef) so I’m excited for their next menu refresh!

Loved the food and ambience at Turning Point! We have been twice in as many weeks, this makes it to our go-to cafe list! On our last visit, my partner ordered the Smokey Beef Burger which he devoured! I had the Super Seasonal Greens which was an interesting version of San Choy Bow with a sesame cracker instead of lettuce. The cafe owner Alice and her team were on hand with very good service. They took good care of us and we'll be back!

It is not very often I go to Ripponlea, but Turning Point, a cafe run by the friendliest staff, with sensational food is perhaps the reason I will return more often.

A truly ambient and modern cafe, Turning Point offers some of the most flavoursome brunch options to date. I tried today the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon whilst a friend had the chilli scrambled eggs with salmon- here's our verdict. The eggs Benny with a base of hash-brown esque base was sensational. Loaded with spinach that is sauteed in an Asian, homely salt and sauce, the hash brown (I forgot what it is actually called) is full of flavour and a crispy finish. Complement this with some delightfully poached eggs, and a gorgeous salmon that is unlike other brunch cafes and you have yourself a recipe for amazement.

A brunch place that is truly more tasty, full of flavour and ambient than the rest. A benchmark that has been set and that will be hard to beat for sure.

Will come back for:
+ Watermelon smoothie
+ Beef burger
+ Ricotta pancakes

Was here to grab a quick bite for lunch and was pretty impressed by the level of service offered. Even though it was a packed Sunday lunch, we got our orders quickly and the waiters were friendly and accommodating. The watermelon smoothie was refreshing, tangy and fresh and real winner for a hot day. And the burger was great with a side of crunchy and moorish chips. I found the rosti in the eggs benedict a little stodgy, but the ricotta pancakes were yum. Nicely presented but all the ingredients work together and was fresh and tasted great. Will definitely be back to try out some of the other dishes soon!

We were invited back to Turning Point, we always enjoy our visits here and this was no exception. The peanut butter smoothie is still a favourite though I wished I tried the chicken and waffles, one for next time. The coco mango smoothie sounds good but I went for the tried and true favourites today in the crowd pleasing avocado smash

Further update
We were invited into TP to try some of their new menu items. We tried the poke bowl and the burrata dish both of which were beautifully presented. The poke for me was pretty spicy as I’m not great with heat but it’s something my partner quite enjoyed. My preference was the beautiful burrata. It was something a bit different and kind of a caprese salad reinvented as a breakfast dish.

Update
We headed back into Turning Point with the free vouchers we received at the launch party. I loved their peanut butter smoothie which was deliciously full of peanut flavour unlike many which are very subtle.

We ordered the avocado toast and the zucchini fritters dish which were both enjoyable. We also tried a couple of sweet treats from the cabinet which is just what the doctor ordered. Such lovely staff too!

Original review
So much fun at the Turning Point launch event last night. We celebrated ahead of today’s grand opening with a few espresso martini’s with a twist, the addition of maple syrup. The renovation is lovely and has transformed the venue into a more modern space. Food wise we sampled a selection of canapés executed by the head chef, some of which such as the zucchini fritters feature on the new brunch menu.
With such a passionate team and extensive experience behind them (same owners as Short Straw and Collective Espresso) this is guaranteed to be a stellar success.

Hands down the best Eggs Benny I've had. Couldn't get enough of the potato rosti! The beef brisket was cooked to perfection also. This is one dish that I keep thinking I must go back soon to have it again.

Service was great, the staff were friendly and served us promptly. Food came out quickly too. I like the feel of the place, it's very modern and spacious.

Definitely the best cafe there is in Ripponlea!

A lovely brunch at this gorgeous cafe in Ripponlea

The space is modern, bright & full of greenery. I love the wooden wall divider that slightly separates the space, and adds a slight amount of privacy to the area.

DRINKS
Iced Latte with Soy Milk: A refreshing coffee that wasn't too bitter. Nice amount of roast
Peanut Butter Smoothie: A rich, creamy smoothie full of great peanut butter flavour with a hint of chocolate

FOOD
Avocado Smash with Mushroom: A delicious, classic smashed avo. The serving was generous & the avo had great flavour with the feta added. I really enjoyed the addition of mushrooms
Three Point Turn: Ordered by my partner with some modifications. He really enjoyed this big brekkie, especially the house made beans which had a great tomato flavour that cut through the fat of the bacon

The staff were so kind and friendly. The food came out in great time & we felt well looked after

We had visited Turning Point for brunch a few weeks ago and here’s what we had!

Matcha and oat porridge - served with a beetroot poached pear, strawberries and a house made granola! What made this dish special was the matcha flavor (I am a big fan of matcha) and how evident it was in taste! It had a sweet flavor and was the right thickness!

Chicken waffles - rosemary and cheddar fried chicken waffle with maple butter bacon dust, chili and coriander! The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside! The waffles were soft but a bit dry.

Ramen noodles - soba noodle, marinated with mushroom oil served with crumbled tofu, pickled enoki, shiitake, snow mushrooms, topped with edamame, coriander and chili! Not only was this a unique dish but the flavors were fantastic! I love mushrooms and tofu and the marination was some really well! The broth was just so natural and fresh hence making it my fave for the day!

We had a really great time at Turning Point and will visit again to try the rest of their menu!

I was so excited to re-visit Turning Point after having a wonderful experience at their Winter Menu launch. I had been dreaming about the Chicken Waffles ever since!

Turning Point is a gorgeous modern cafe located just beside Ripponlea station. I love the clean and bright interior and the spacious setting.

For dishes, we went for their signature Warm Pumpkin Salad, Chicken Waffles, and Matcha and Oat Porridge.

The Chicken Waffles were delicious! I loved the combination of sweet and savoury. The waffles are infused with rosemary which makes it very unique, and I loved the creaminess and sweetness of the maple butter. Have it as soon as it’s served while it’s still warm and crispy!

The Pumpkin Salad is their signature dish, and it did not disappoint! The roasted pumpkin was amazing - so sweet and creamy. It went really well with the salad, which had bits of pumpkin seed for crunch.

The Matcha and Oat Porridge was nice and warming for the winter day. It’s not too sweet which I like, and had a very mild flavour. Although the colour is a vibrant green, I would’ve liked the matcha flavour to be stronger. However I loved the fresh fruit and granola toppings!!

Overall, we had a really lovely time at Turning Point. I’d highly recommend checking them out - you won’t be disappointed!

Thank you for having me!

📝: From the people who brought you Short Straw and Collective Espresso, Turning Point has brought an array of decadent brunch dishes to the South’s cafe scene.

They have s bright, spacious dining area with blonde timber furnitures, and white and grey walls.

❤️: Though winter’s nearly over, we’re still keen to try their array of winter menus.

Apparently, my favorite wasn’t one of their winter specials, but their best-selling Warm Pumpkin Salad. Absolutely loved with dish. A whole roasted pumpkin, warm salad of buckwheat, pesto, tofu, enoki, mushrooms, topped with edamame, coriander, and chili. We added extra halloumi and eggs, because why not?

Onto the real winter ones. The Chicken Waffles—rosemary and cheddar fried chicken waffles with maple butter and bacon dust. Have it as soon as it arrives to get those warm, crispy waffles!

Lastly, the Matcha & Oat Porridge with beetroot poached pear, strawberries, and granola. Though it was nice and creamy in it’s own way, I felt it was a little too bland for me.

Aesthetic brunch scene.

The place is really nice and spacious, with good amount of sun in the back area where we sat. Staffs were lovely and our food didn't take long.

Started off with choc milkshake and B&B Smoothies, both were delish! Also got a turmeric soy which I personally liked.

The poke bowl had all the components that worked really well together, and everything was fresh, but the spiciness overpowered other aspects of the dish which was bit unfortunate. Would've been yummy if not.

Then there's the chicken burger which was okay. Flavour was good, chips were fried well. However, the burger was bit too salty, especially the fries. Chicken was also too dry.

I did love the last dish. Warm pumpkin salad was just sooo goood. I love the texture and flavour of the pumpkin, and the buckwheat salad balanced the pumpkin so well and has this herby flavour. Also, with poached egg and added fried haloumi, it was perfect. Definitely a must have.

Overall, a really pretty brunch place which could use some extra attention to the some dishes but yes to the pumpkin salad! Also 10/10 for visuals!
Thanks for having me!

This cafe is as good as everyone says! 8/10 from me!

First off, food here is delicious! My asparagus and smashed peas were filling even though it was just all greens. The crushed almonds and vinegarette really complimented the dish and brought flavor to the dish.
The ramen bowl was tasty too! The broth was full of mushroom and umami flavor, and the tofu was crunchy yet still soft on the inside.
The kids chicken fingers with chips was good too (no picture for this one cause the kids were so hungry they digged in too quick). It wasn’t oily, everything was still crispy when served and not overly salty. The kids finished everything.
Dessert here was special but the taste was just okay. The tarts were baked well though I find it a little tasteless. Overall it was still good because the crust was nicely baked and buttery.
Coffee ( long black) here was okay too but the babycino and latte were good with the right ratio of milk!
service here are very friendly and attentive too :) which is the key to every cafe experience. Would recommend to come here but the highlight is definitely the food on the menu.

Beautiful cafe and amazing food ❤️

FOOD: We ordered the ‘Bagel On Point’ and ‘Matcha and Oat Porridge’. My dish was the ‘Matcha and Oat Porridge’ and truth be told, I have never been a porridge person but Turning Point TURNED me ha ha ha. Okay forreal, the porridge was absolutely lovely and it tasted like a matcha latte having a baby with a porridge. It’s winter so a dish warm like this is absolutely perfect and I looove matcha so this was definitely up my alley. The granola wasn’t overpowering and together with the pear and strawberries, it made for an amazing fish that was the perfect combination of creamy and tart! The ‘Bagel On Point’ was great too and was really flavourful! The mushrooms are abit spicy so if you’re not someone who can take spice, maybe go for a different dish but personally I love spice so it gave a perfect kick! The bagel was amazing and the fries were done super well!

SERVICE: The service here is absolutely lovely and they are happy to serve you with a smile! They’re also really pleasant and for a weekend, they were still really attentive and kind!

I’ve been wanting to come to Turning Point and I can see why the hype for this cafe is so high! With the Zomato Gold, I can safely say this is one of my new favourite claims so far! I’d definitely return just for the porridge but tbh, I’m looking at the waffles next 😬

Spacious modern cafe located just right opposite the Ripponlea station. Though the food took a while to arrive, it was a pleasant wait while enjoying the view of the train passing by. Food wise, fritters are yum, made with good amount of corns, moist, egg is well cooked, pickle cucumbers give out a sharp tangy flavour, combo of all makes it a pleasant dish. However, I reckon the dish is more on the dry side, will be great to have more sauces served. For the burger, thumbs up that the burger is served with crunchy thick hand cut chips. Love the crunchy chicken batter. We reckon it’ll be more enjoyable dish if the dish is seasoned with less salt.

Modern and bright Turning Point is in a perfect spot across the road from Ripponlea Station. Staff are always friendly and the menu is a good mix of brunch classics and more creative dishes that rotate with the seasons. The new waffles are a tasty addition to the new menu, or the glorious greens if you want something healthier or my go to is always the eggs benny.

We were invited to Turning Point Ripponlea to try their winter menu, and we were impressed! A hidden gem just across Ripponlea train station and not too far away from the tram stop.

We started off with a soy latte and a calming Lemongrass & Ginger tea. The tea was perfect for a cold rainy day!

We also ordered the green smoothie and the chocolate peanut butter smoothie - the PB smoothie was bloody good! It was super rich, thick, creamy and the peanut butter flavor was exploding in the mouth, a must-try here.

And for the main meal, we ordered the eggs benny and the warm pumpkin salad. The eggs benny was delicious, and the portion was super generous compared to other places we've been to recently. The beef cheek was tender, full of flavor, and it blends well with the potato rosti and that hint of rosemary.

The warm pumpkin salad was also delicious - soft, sweet, perfectly roasted, and served warm. Again, massive portion, which is always a good thing. The pesto flavor was not too overpowering, and it blends well with buckwheat, toasted seeds, and the puree. We genuinely thought this is really a great menu for winter in this city! Perhaps our only minor criticism is the lack of salt on the buckwheat but this is coming from us who are a heavy salt-eater ;)

Finally, the Winter Waffles were incredible! The texture of the waffle was perfect - it was crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy within. The toppings were plentiful and we have to admit all the components work really well together, and it wasn't overly sweet either - great menu for sharing. Highly recommend trying their waffles!

Overall, amazing visit! Decorations on point, the long table is great for a big group! We would highly recommend checking them out if you're in the area or even far!

Lovely stuff!

I came for winter menu launch night and I fell in love with the food I was seeing! I also really wanted to see the cafe in daylight to get a vibe for it.

I came with my buddy who is vegan. They have a few options for vegans but I also think a couple dishes can just have some dairy items taken off and they would be vegan. For example I can’t eat dairy so I asked for the ricotta to be taken off my dish and they were more than happy to do so!
The service throughout was fantastic.

We ordered the warm pumpkin salad and the glorious greens which I got with 2 poached eggs and mushrooms.

The warm pumpkin came out steaming so it was definitely warm! The pumpkin wedge is huge. And it comes on a bed of frekkeh. It’s a quality looking fish and my friend very much enjoyed it!

I had the glorious greens and my word was it glorious. I really like the pea base instead of spinach or kale which it usually is. My only criticism is the peas could have done with more flavouring it said garlic however they were rather bland. Other than that the greens on top were cooked well, the eggs were poached perfectly and the mushrooms were scrummy.

A lovely brunch 9/10

I've visited Turning Point several times now, and honestly, every visit has been near to flawless! From the food to the service, I've always felt so well looked after. I find myself anticipating my next return as soon as I've walked out the door!

I recently visited on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch with my partner. He ordered the fried chicken waffles with a juice, whilst I ordered the new Winter porridge and a PB smoothie! We also enjoyed some fries between us. The porridge was such a decent size and definitely left me very satisfied! You can't go past this smoothie either; so, so delicious.

My boyfriend rates these fried chicken waffles above almost all he's tried in Melbourne (and that says a lot as he's a fried chicken fanatic!). I tried some of his juice as well, and it was super tasty and fresh!

Overall, another amazing visit! I love the Winter menu options and would 10/10 recommend this spot, whether you're near or far. It's worth the travel.

Let’s turn it around!

We all have so many struggles in our little lives. But you can ALWAYS do to turn things around. And maybe if you were go to for brunch, you wouldn’t complain, right?

I finally visited Turning Point and what a turn it was! The venue is ideally located next to the tram station which makes it very accessible to reach. It stands out straight away by its large windows and if you look attentively, you can even see the big neon lights from the inside inviting you over - literally! - because the letters say ‘Meet me here’. Once I got inside the venue I could feel the energy and positive vibes straight away and that was promptly confirmed by the staff who welcomed me with a smile and provided great GREAT service from there start.
The whole place is undoubtedly the spot to get your coffee and brunch fix with friends and families, and even that cheeky date!

The decorations are impressive and not only do they have some tree and floral inspired paintings on the walls but there are cute little jars with a small bunch of flowers throughout the whole space. It is the true definition of ‘tropical modernism’, bringing an elegant and clear natural landscape touch to the space!

After my vegan friend arrived and going through their winter menu that had just launched, here’s what we decided to have:

- Matcha Porridge with Beetroot Poached Pear and Coconut Soy Matcha milk: it’s their new addition to the Autumn menu and trust me when I say that it will be a winner and crazy popular 👏 it is so well achieved and the words that caption it are truly: nailed it 👌 seriously. I cannot even start to describe how delicious it is but trying to make it short (😏 although we know it won’t be short 😂) in terms of presentation it is outstanding and I really like the green and red contrast - I think it still represents very well the autumn traits and at the same time stands out from the usual brown and yellowish tones. Very satisfying portion size. Regarding the oats, they were PERFECTLY cooked and I have to congratulate the chef on that - we all know that sometimes porridge gets too runny and other times too thick and it can become too dense and slightly unpleasant to eat but here it was perfectly achieved. Plus, even though I thought it was unnecessary in the beginning and I didn’t really see the point of having milk on the side to pour, I really appreciated it and I do understand why it’s there and the benefit or can bring to the dish! Even though I have nothing to add to that perfectly nailed consistency, and it was delightful to eat without any extra milk, the option to have more liquid and to be able to manipulate and add some little twists to the mix is notable and very thoughtful to appeal all palates. Taste is outstanding - the matcha flavour is not overwhelming and doesn’t leave any aftertaste - and the coconut soy blend is exceptional! 👏 never thought it would work so well! One final tick of approval goes to the beetroot poached pear that is not only a brilliant idea but also gives an even more glorious look with added natural sweetness to the meal. 100% recommend - 👏 it is without a doubt an 11/10!

- Piña Colada Granola Bowl with two popsicles - I have to admit that this is a meal where people would think that adding an extra popsicle is somewhat ‘too extra’ or even ridiculous, right? Well... it really isn’t! Not at all! Those little popsicles are made of pina colada and they are the highlight of this magnificently presented meal! The flavour is not excessively intense and they are not watery either (definitely very different from the taste of the usual sorbet!). They are not excessively sugarish either and in fact I wouldn’t mind at all even having more! The meal is very instaworthy and the coconut bowl is a masterpiece indeed but one thing I have to note here is the size of the meal - the bowl itself is quite small and portions of either of the components of the dish are lacking In quantity. Also, it’s important to highlight that the ‘granola’ itself is not your usual granola, which might confuse some people - I personally was very happy with the ingredients (with buckwheat and coconut) which creates that pleasant crunchiness to the meal and again is different from other meals in other venues. The coconut cream is splendid and it’s neither too thick nor too liquid, and consistency is similar to a pudding but lighter - very pleasant indeed and I would say that what lacks in quantity gains in quality here (although more of it would be immensely appreciated by many costumers without a doubt!). I really I just wish that the portion of this meal could be twice as much! 😂👌 this is a gourmet meal in every sense of the word!

- Warm Pumpkin Salad - quite an interesting combo. The meal itself is very aesthetic and again, stands out from usual meals from other venues. I am a huge pumpkin lover and I must say that not only was the pumpkin wedge is of good portion but it was perfectly roasted, not oily or salty, with a more soft inside and slight crispy skin - just the way it should be 👏 the pesto flavour is not very intense and while it blends well with buckwheat and almonds, I think it could be stronger or slightly improved by changing the almonds by cashews to give a more interesting flavour. It is a meal that more savoury people will enjoy and although I had the vegan version of this meal, I think that adding poached eggs to it will make it more wholesome and delicious - I will definitely do that next time and even add some smoked salmon to it!

- Coco Mango smoothie - I asked the smoothie to be made with coconut water instead of coconut milk, for that extra sweetness, and I also asked for extra banana for thickness and it turned out a very good combo. I was surprised by the colour of the drink - I thought it would be more yellow with a base of mango and banana but I am sure that it is the mint blended in that gives a light greenish colour to it. Actually, the mint touch is very smart of the chef again and gives a touch of freshness to the drink! Really liked the special touch with shredded coconut on top too.

- Green Goodness smoothie - my friend had this smoothie and she said it was delicious. I do think that from the ingredients it is truly the definition of goodness, because how can it not be with avocado, kale and spinach? The colour is quite beautiful too and again, it contrasts very well with the coconut sprinkles!

Turning Point has easily won my heart like their sister café, Short Straw. The team behind these places truly deserves recognition for creating a venue where you can get your usual morning coffee, at high quality, and to try something new, exciting, and be surprised by each and one of their carefully and artistically signature meals! You never know when you get to that turning point what’s hiding behind each corner and that makes life 100% more exciting 🎉 I cannot wait to visit again and be surprised by more of their creations!

Located opposite the Ripponlea train station, Turning Point is a classy, inviting cafe that has plenty of atmosphere and a fantastic menu. Firstly, it's a huge, light space with plenty of seating, cool neon on the walls and a massive communal table at the rear. Despite it's size and popularity, it's bustling but not so bad that you can't hear your own conversations which is always a plus in a cafe if this size. We were greeted warmly by bubbly staff, and started with delicious fresh juices and excellent coffee.

I've always wanted to try 'the Point of no return', the cafes spin on bircher muesli. Unfortunately it's no longer served with the dry ice and glass like I've seen all over Insragram, but it was still pretty and extremely tasty. The sorbet was a refreshing touch, and the creaminess of the oats married well with the crunchier elements and fruit.

The French toast was a real winner. Crispy outside with a super fluffy centre, the honey joy crumble was amazing and took me back to my childhood straight away. The mini cones of lemon curd were delicious as well as cute, and along with the Persian fairy floss, really added to the theatrics of the dish. We were really happy with this flavour combination.

Turning Point is a popular place, and is always busy whenever we've been there. With such fantastic food, lovely staff and beautiful decor, it's no wonder people are drawn to this excellent venue, and we will definitely be back.

Finally made it to Turning Point and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's bright and spacious inside with a beautiful yet simple interior. We were shown to our table quickly and given time to look over their delicious sounding menu. They offer breakfast for most of the day, and lunch from late morning, so there's a lot to choose from, but I decided to go with the Two Cheese Beef Burger, but just asked them to hold the brie. The mix of pickled onions and English mustard, gave it a nice punch and a distinctive difference to other burgers out there. The fries with it were spot on; perfectly cooked and tasty. I will say, however, that another reviewer (or two) were right when they said the brioche buns were dry and crumbly. I really wish restaurants and cafes would give you the option of a bun. I don't like brioche buns (mainly because I don't like sweet and savoury together), because they CAN be dry, and this is the part where the meal let us down just slightly.

With that all said, I really recommend Turning Point for either breakfast, lunch or brunch. Parking CAN be brutal (it's right outside a train station), though yesterday there were cars pulling in and out of spaces, so you can be lucky. It's worth it though, because the food is good and I cannot wait to come back and try other items they have on offer (which can also extend to their cabinet of treats near the cash register where they sell items to go, if you wish ...).

This place nailed it!! The service was the best I have had in a long time in the midst of disappointing cafe hospitality at large. The staff here were friendly, energetic and keen to help and serve. The food was sensational. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavours were properly balanced. The ingredients were fresh and well chosen and complimentary. The coffee was smooth and the beans fresh. The price was fair and so were the portions. The only let down was the cafe had poor acoustics, so very loud. Otherwise, just perfect!!!

Welcome to the Turning Point Show!

This place is beautiful! The lighting, the people, the coffee and of course the food!

And it’s not your average “food on a plate” type food. It’s an experience! And this area of town is well known for its spectacular eateries so Turning Point did impress.

I had the white rum and pot set yoghurt which was displayed in it very own coconut shell. I probably should have said no to the rum, it was a bit much for 8am.

The food in the other tables had people is awe, which smoke shows and crazy colours! It was fun for the whole cafe to experience, even if you weren’t the one eating it.

Overall it’s a lovely place to go. Get in early however, as it’s a pretty busy venue around the lunch hours.

Thanks for breakfast and the razzle dazzle!

So lucky to get a seat here today as it coincided with the Attica Bake Sale which flooded Ripponlea with hundreds of people and cars. Coldest day in the year so after realising at least 500 people were in front of us on the queue headed to Turning Point.

Warm inside, I quickly ordered for us, a shared plate of the Three Point Turn (aka Big Brekkie see pic) and an almond mocha. Every part of this was so tasty and perfectly cooked. Huge serving so sharing it was a perfect idea. 5/5 for this on all levels. The mocha whilst not hot and not silky was very good.

We left when tens of people were coming in, like us, coming in bcz they didn’t want to wait in the huge line freezing their butts off. So relieved we beat the crowds.

Great staff and food. I will return.

I had an amazing vegan brunch spread at Turning Point!
The WARM PUMPKIN SALAD was perfect for a pumpkin-lover like me 🎃 Cant decide if I enjoyed the pumpkin wedge or pumpkin purée more 🤔
I also tried the PINA COLADA GRANOLA BOWL 🥥 A bowl of fruity, coconutty goodness. So refreshing on a hot day!

Food, coffee and vibes all top notch. The team are super lovely too!

Edit: I went again and tried the MUSHROOM BAGEL with fries and it was AMAZING. Definitely recommend this dish!!

We came back recently to Turning Point, this time with another couple and their baby. It was a little more rush with the little fella as he didn’t want to settle and the resulting noise was certainly a piercing. Staff were still very accommodating and probably put a rush on our order.

We loved the smashed avocado which came with tasty feta, subtle lemon, punchy pesto and the added crunch of pepitas & sunflower seeds which sets this avo dish above others

Other savoury highlight included the warm pumpkin salad with textural buckwheat, almonds which worked well in this salad along with crisp sage leaves. We added halloumi which was generous portioned.

The sweet highlight was the french toast which was truely an amazingly plated dish, so much so that it captured the attention of several of our fellow dinners. Berries, lemon curd cones, coconut ice cream and fairy floss all feature atop of brioche french toasted. This dish was the highlight of the meal.

Our fourth visit over and we would still look forward to coming back.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a previous visit...
Turning Point is perfectly positioned on the sunny corner of the shops right opposite Ripponlea train station and inside was very nicely decked out with light wood tones and greenery plus some ultra cool light fitting and wall neon and imagery.
I had saved up my calories today for this late lunch and as such it’s no surprise that I ordered the beef burger with two cheeses (a cheddar and a Brie). It came beer battered chips and the option of a shake for and additional $3.50 (of course I did). The burger was a delight although I nearly scrapped off the onions until I realised they were pickled (yum). Although filling it was manageable without mess. Chips were supposed to
Be smoked paprika but if so it was too subtle for
me to pick up on.
Was expecting it to be far busier than what it was considering it’s rating but it was very quiet on a Saturday morning. Had the eggs benny which was good, eggs cooked well and hood flavours but still firmly believe you don’t go past the classic of English muffins and ham instead of pulled pork on Rosti. Service was very good.
Came here for breakfast this morning. We arrived around 9.30am and there were plenty of tables.
I had the Warm Pumpkin salad which was excellent, extremely filling when you add both the recommended sides of Haloumi and a poached egg.
My husband had the Eggs Benny with was also great - nice light hollandaise sauce. Coffee was good.
Friendly and quick service.
Tasty and quality ingredients, fresh decor. I prefer strong flavours and lots of them, so found our dishes to be slightly boring as it was a large volume of just a couple things, so I tired of eating the same ingredient. However those ingredients were prepared very well, so maybe suited to those who don’t like a lot going on in their dish. (I had pumpkin dish and added egg and haloumi.). Caroline juice (carrot, apple, celery, lemon) was quite refreshing. Mushroom side was amazing.
This is a brunch spot you must visit. The creativity is taken to another level here, with the Point of No Return and Piña Colada Bowl literally blowing me away. Such an inventive way to present food and really stepping up to the challenge. The Avocado Smash was plentiful, so much avo (currently in an avo coma) and I loved the feta!!!
The space is light and seating comfortable, obsessed with the neon light (perfect for photos). Close to Ripponlea station too!
I’ve been here before and recently went to try their new winter menu. My last experience had been okay, the food was nice but didn’t knock my socks off I guess you could say. Well I was pleasantly surprised to find I really enjoyed this new menu! The waffles were just heaven, I had to hold myself back from eating it all (as a food blogger if I ate everything i would be very unwell). But the zucchini and pea fritters were delicious, hard to describe by get it with bacon if you can!
First Impression: The staff are very efficient with the seating and taking the coffee orders allowing us to contemplate on their very inventive dishes on the menu. The first coffee came pretty quickly and full of wow with lots of aaaaah mixed with it.
It’s a modern but noisy restaurant. Perhaps line the ceiling with acoustic tiles to reduce the reverberations. I thought I had gone blind in the toilet with the black finished surfaces.
Brunch was as expected, classy and well presented.
Turning Point cafe is conveniently located across the road from the Ripponlea train station. It is a modern cafe that not only serves delicious coffee, breakfast and lunch but unlike most cafe’s also serves dinner..
Today we came for breakfast and we were most excited to try the new menu.
We ordered the Warm Pumpkin Salad, the Bircher muesli dish called‘The Point of No Return’ and also the Poke Bowl.
The food was absolutely and insanely delicious. The pumpkin salad was so appetizing - it came with a plentiful serving of pumpkin and the flavours on the plate went so well together. The poke bowl was really outstanding, especially due to the salmon being nice and spicy, which gave the dish a bit more of a kick and it all looked so elegant on the plate! The muesli dish - ‘Point of No Return’ was the standout due to the theatrics of the ‘smoke show’ – what fun and so creative! The mango sorbet was delightful and added a special freshness to the whole dish.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Turning Point and highly recommend you check it out. This is one point I’ll definitely be turning back for!!
The good
Salmon scrambled eggs with roe and some creamy green sauce. Soooo good. It’s no longer on the menu plsss bring it back ;(((
Got seaweed tempura as a side. Pretty innovative.
The mediocre
French toast was really cute in its presentation with adorable little cones but taste wise a bit dry
The bad
Benedict was disappointing. The black cubes if rosti tastes if herbs which I don’t like. The pulled beef and spinach was meh, and the miserly amount of hollandaise sprinkled on top was really unsatisfying.
Turning Point is a very popular place. It has a groovy new fitout. But it’s stark concrete and wood needs some sound baffling. It’s very, very noisy in here. The staff are fantastic, as is the coffee. We really liked the black cutlery - great touch. Twosheds and brunching companion ordered kale and zucchini fritters, with a side of chorizo, and scrambled eggs with bacon. The fritters were a tour de force, if a touch under seasoned before Twosheds took to them with the gourmet salt. Supremely light and fluffy, they were topped with fried kale and an exquisite purple yoghurt sauce. Accompanying chorizo was beautiful. Companion’s scrambled eggs were beautiful too, but the bread came without butter - a bit annoying. Bloody Mary was super strong. Suggestion for the noise issue is felt tips on chair legs to reduce scraping on the concrete.
Recommended. 3.9
Something suggests Ripponlea is about to become a new cult weekend destination; Mocha Jo's, Miss Ruben's, Garage Wine Store and Ripponlea Food & Wine are all doing excellent things to elevate this tranquil and traditional inner Melbourne  suburb. Add Turning Point into the mix and you really have something worth hopping on the train for.
Putting the theatre into breakfast, Turning Point is a bright new thing, taking classics and playfully presenting and modernising plates.
The smoked salmon rillette was a fresh and zesty nod to the area. Kale and zucchini fritters were vegetable packed and the spiced yoghurt they were served with was fantastically flavoured.
The "Point of No Return" is the must order, tour de force, centre-piece that's going to have the queues forming on sunny Sundays. But this dish is far from just smoke (liquid nitrogen) and mirrors, layers of sharp raspberry compote, glorious mango sorbet and creamy apple oats compliment the house-made granola.
The space really is gorgeous, light, airy and filled with soft wood, plants and a handy neon or three. The courtyard is a great bonus and this place truly is set to turn up the calibre of the Melbourne brunch scene, I'll be eagerly watching what they do next.
Turning Point is located opposite Ripponlea station just off Glen Eira Road. It’s a lovely big space with windows down one side & I love the interior. Plenty of plants & greenery & a gorgeous big wooden table perfect for functions & events.
I’ve visited Turning Point for brunch many times & love the menu as it changes regularly so there are always new & exciting dishes to try.
Their smoothies are delicious & I also tried the Beatrice, beetroot, celery, carrot, apple & lemon juice which was so refreshing.
The Eggs Benny is served on huge potato rostis which are insanely delicious & the beef brisket is so tender & tasty.
The Three Point Turn is an epic big breakfast, served with all the usual suspects including eggs, bacon, mushrooms, spinach, house made beans, potato rosti & toasted tomato. You need to be hungry to order this dish but the flavours will have you ordering it again.
The French Toast is such a fun dish, decorated with fruit, honey joys, lemon curd, mini cones, fairy floss & coconut ice cream. The coconut ice cream is divine & helps cut through the sweetness of the dish & I really love the spiced brioche used in the French toast.
The staff at Turning Point do an amazing job looking after their customers, an impressive effort for a very busy cafe. I’ve had so many positive experiences at Turning Point, the food was been consistently good & the coffee is fantastic. This keeps me & plenty of others coming back for more. Thanks so much for having me.
Came here for Sunday lunch and suprising wasnt too busy. We noticed the place is open for functions and larger group bookings as well.
The menu had a good range of options. The coffee was also alright.
We ordered the Truffle and Dill Scramble and the Southern fried chicken burger.
The Scramble was just basic scrambled eggs and so all the flavour was in the oil drizzled around the plate and the fried capers. Therefore the scramble itself was kinda bland and under seasoned but when you eat it with the capers and the pickled fennel, it is much better. However, I do think it would have been better of the scramble was a bit more flavourful or just even better seasoned.
The burger was much better. The chicken was very crispy but moist and the mayo slaw was well seasoned as well. The chips were also very good. We enjoyed the burger but after we started to get full, we did feel like the mayo was getting little too much for us. Otherwise we quite enjoyed the burger!
We were very thankful to the waitress who served as she was very patient and friendly as we took way too much time to pick our meal.
Overall it was an okay brunch experience. Will we be back? Maybe when a new menu is launched but not anytime soon.
As a sister restaurant of Collective Espresso and Short Straw, you know that the food and service are going to be great.  Easily accessible, located just off Glen Eira Rd, right opposite Ripponlea station with parking out the front.
The interior is bright and modern with loads of natural light and today the space was toasty and warm so we could peel off the layers and enjoy the afternoon sunshine coming through the windows.
There's a small enclosed courtyard out the back, a large communal table, and plenty of smaller tables, so there is never really a wait for a seat.
I had the Truffle Scramble and it was fantastic - silky eggs served on toasted brioche with smoked trout, Yarra Valley caviar and herb creme fraiche.  The sweet brioche was a beautiful accompaniment to the salty fish and I would absolutely order this again.
The French toast is new to the menu, although sadly they'd run out of mini cones, so my pics are lacking that extra magic.  Deliciously sweet, stuffed with tangy lemon curd and what tasted like plum jam; topped with fairy floss a coconut icecream that was the BOMB.
Hubby had the Two Cheese Beef Burger - a thick angus patty on brioche with melted cheddar and brie, served with paprika fries and a thickshake.  The burger was gooey and luxurious and the fries were sweetly spiced - this is a big meal so make sure you're hungry!
The only down side was that the shake came in a plastic cup (with a lid) and a plastic straw.  I actually found this quite surprising considering how on point and progressive the owners and chefs are in all other areas - and that fact that they're serving metal reusable straws to the customers who order other kinds of drinks!  I did chat to our lovely waitperson about this and she said that they're trying to create that authentic American vibe with this meal.  We think it would be a great idea if they swapped out the plastic for metal milkshake cups and did away with those plastic straws - your customers will love your sustainability :)
**UPDATE 25/7/18 - Turning Point have know let me know that they're using up the current stock and then committing completely to paper and reusable straws - yay!**
It's easy to see why Turning Point is a local fave, consistently churning out amazing coffee and beautiful, tasty, creative food with a smile.  They currently have a bottomless brunch with unlimited mimosas/sparkling for $45.  Also it's a great place to drop in for casual coffee and cake for only $8
We always have a fab meal and will be back again soon - thanks so much for having us!
We visited Turning Point on the weekend and had a great time. I don't live near Rippon Lea, however I love the area and am so glad I got the chance to make it over there at last!
The interior of Turning Point is light, open and fresh. There are plenty of places to sit which is handy on those busy weekends. We chose to sit outside (out the front of the cafe) which was undercover, luckily as it was raining!
We had an English breakfast tea and a latte to begin with, and neither of us had any complaints. The latte was lovely - just the right strength for me and nice and hot which I like. We also had a banana smoothie which was beautiful - you could really get the creaminess of the ice cream - delish!!
My husband ordered the French Toast and I was lucky to even get a try he devoured it so quick! The little mini cones were so cute and delicious - i absolutely love lemon curd, and the tang just gave an extra element to the sweetness of the dish. The coconut ice cream was a real highlight for me - it was GORGEOUS. I could eat a whole container of it, and the honey joy element took me back to primary school - one of my favourite treats when I was little, which was a nice memory to have :-)
I ordered the Three Point Turn and most certainly didn't regret it!! I absolutely loved it and NEARLY got through it all. It's a huge hearty dish, i love big breakfasts and this was no exception. The eggs were silky and cooked just the way I like them scrambled. I loved that the tomatoes were topped with relish - just something a little different from the usual plain roasted tomatoes. I added avocado which I'm glad about, as it balanced out the saltiness from the bacon, eggs and house made beans. There is also an option to add halloumi - which i REALLY wanted to but i went with my better judgement as i knew it would be too much for me!
Overall a beautiful breakfast, and a really nice experience. The girl who served us was lovely and helpful - we stayed for about a 10 minute chat after we finished our meal, which is always a good sign! Thanks for having me Turning Point, I will be back as soon as I can! :-)
I recently visited Turning Point to try out their new winter menu. We ordered the Pina Colada smoothie bowl and the warm pumpkin salad along with smoothies to drink.
Both dishes came out beautifully presented, although the Pina Colada smoothie bowl served with a coconut shell was a complete knockout.
The warm pumpkin salad is perfect for winter, I loved it so much I want to try and recreate it at home. I highly recommend that you add the optional poached egg and halloumi, they compliment the dish and the runny yolk helps bind it together.
We'd been avoiding Turning Point for ages, but the menu's been revamped and definitely worth giving another go for breakfast. There were some mix ups with the add-ons coming out on the wrong meals and being missed (guessing their POS system doesn't handle this properly?). Also the add-on haloumi was quite small, but just avoid that and it's all good!
We were invited to Turning Point Ripponlea to try their winter menu, and we were impressed! A hidden gem just across Ripponlea train station and not too far away from the tram stop. We started off with a soy latte and a calming Lemongrass Ginger tea. The tea was perfect for a cold rainy day! We also ordered the green smoothie and the chocolate peanut butter smoothie - the PB smoothie was bloody good! It was super rich, thick, creamy and the peanut butter flavor was exploding in the mouth, a must try here. And for the main meal, we ordered the eggs benny and the warm pumpkin salad. The eggs benny was delicious, and the portion was super generous compared to other places we've been to recently. The beef cheek was tender, full of flavor, and it blends well with the potato rosti and that hint of rosemary. The warm pumpkin salad was also delicious - soft, sweet, perfectly roasted, and served warm. Again, massive portion, which is always a good thing. The pesto flavor was not too overpowering, and it blends well with buckwheat, toasted seeds, and the puree. We genuinely thought this is really a great menu for winter in this city! Perhaps our only minor criticism is the lack of salt on the buckwheat but this is coming from us who are a heavy salt-eater :) Finally, the Winter Waffles were incredible! The texture of the waffle was perfect - it was crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy within. The toppings were plentiful and we have to admit all the components work really well together, and it wasn't overly sweet either - great menu for sharing. Highly recommend trying their waffles! Overall, amazing visit! Decorations on point, the long table is great for a big group! We would highly recommend checking them out if you're in the area or even far!
