Review Rocky Top Restaurant - Rockhampton

I have been following Chef Carl on social media for a long while and been amazed at the beautiful dishes he’s has posted on social media. Formerly at another popular Rockhampton resteraunt Chef Carl is now at “Rocky Top” at the Central Park Motel. A quick trip to central Queensland gave me the chance to sample the food first hand, food I had been salivating over from afar. Off the current menu I picked the Mushrooms Kilpatrick, 1/2 dozen baked mushrooms stuffed with oysters and bacon, and my partner chose the Scollops wrapped in prosciutto on a purée pea and raspberry sauce. For main dishes we chose the Tempura Coral Trout and the Moreton Bay Bugs with mango. All the dishes were beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked. Another diner also shared with me that he had dined at the restaurant two nights running and both time it was amazing food.

We have been a few times and in Rockhampton this is one of the best places to eat out. I like how they keep the menu changing. For me the food quality and taste is the most important and I think this chef consistently gets it right. The Jamaican Rice paper wrap was ok.

Went to Rocky Top Restaurant on a Monday night unannounced. service was unable to be faulted. The meal was sensational. To compare this restaurant with others in the area is easy. It leads them all in the dining race and is highly recommended especially regarding value for money, I did not think it to be too hard on the wallet especially when compared to other larger restaurant chains in the Rocky area. I highly recommend anyone to visit.

Used to be 5 star menu with 5 star chef. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. Undercooked flat bread (raw in the middle), soggy "crispy pork", overcooked rib fillet with prawns that were so overcooked they were inedible, served on top of soggy chips. Will never return to this venue.
