Review Baan Thai Restaurant - Rosanna

Delifghtful food and efficient staff. Wide-ranging menu. Definitely to be re-visited.

Wow! One of the best, fresh and tasty Thai meals. Very impressed with the balance of flavour and quality. Had the spicy noodles, laab and satay stir fry. Will order again 😊

We’ve dined here and also had takeaways. Food is always delicious; with fresh ingredients and good size portion. Probably the best Thai eatery in Rosanna. My fav is their Thai fried rice and fish cakes.

It's not often we find a place that has plenty of Gluten Free options so that was the first tick. The entrees were excellent! If it was an episode of My Kitchen Rules we'd be wondering if they chef was going to be able to live up to it with the main. We needn't have worried, The mains were as good as the entrees. Sadly, none of the desserts were gluten free but we forgave them because we were stuffed from the meals. The service was very good. The atmosphere was pleasant and the prices very reasonable. Looking forward to an excuse to visit again some day!

My wife had a takeaway yellow curry and was not overly impressed with the quality of meat or taste. May be a personal choice. The service was very friendly and atmosphere within the restaurant seemed vibrant and welcoming.

Lovely food, excellent portion sizes, and friendly staff. Been there several times over the years and consistently good.

You really can't go wrong here. Been eating from this place for nearly 10 years. Mostly get takeaway, but it's a really nice space to eat in as well. Other than a few long waits when they've obviously underestimated how long the kitchen would take to prepare on busy nights, I've not had a single bad thing to say about this place in all that time. In fact, I'd say the food we've gotten is almost a carbon copy of the previous meal, every time. Always, always consistent. And always, always super tasty. The Pad Thai is great, the Panang Chicken Curry is great, the Lamb Massaman Curry is great, the Gai Pad Med is great, the chicken ribs and golden bag are great starters as well. Tip: If it's really noisy in the background when you ring for takeaway, and they say 15min, give it 20. Maybe 25. Even if they manage to git it ready in 15, it'll still be hot by the time it gets home.

We had Baan Thai takeaway for dinner. It was only okay overall. The fried rice and Pad Thai were decent, but quite greasy. It was a quite mediocre Pad Thai, partly because it had few sprouts at all. The meat in the beef salad was fairly tough, and not that flavorful (other than the sauce on it). The whole salad was quite wet, and lacked much in the way of actual vegetables other than a soggy bit of lettuce on the bottom. I would eat there again, but it wouldn't be my top choice. The décor of the restaurant looked nice, leading me to expect higher quality dishes than what we got.

Awesome food! Ordered takeaway for dinner and absolutely loved it. Pad Thai was amazing - huge hit! Only criticism is the chicken meat in the Panang Curry, otherwise brilliant!

We waited for the dishes for more than half hour, asked for a bowl for sharing, they gave us a filthy sticky bowl, obviously it has not been wash thoroughly for a while. Coconut rice is soaking...
Don’t know what happen to the restaurant. We used to be a frequent visitor, but we were quite disappointed this time!

Baan Thai at Rosanna. Honestly I don’t like it and the cuisine is not my type. But the restaurant is nice and cosy. Good place to catch up with friends for a dinner though.

Great taste for both mains and desserts... and amazing service! Haven’t been in a friendlier place in Melbourne before! I love having places like this in the area.

We had home delivery from here last night. It was not great. First, it took me 10 mins and multiple times saying that I wanted it delivered before they understood and asked for a delivery address. Not impressed.

We ordered green curry, pad thai, jasmine rice, fried rice, stir fry, roti, spring rolls and satay skewers. None was up to a great standard. The curry was hot but flavourless. The stir fry was very bland, as was the fried rice. The meat in all dishes was tough and inedible. Very disappointing given how impressed we were when we first started ordering from there. It will be a long time, if ever, we go back.

Warm and friendly service with relaxing atmosphere. The beef curry was a standout while meal was well priced. Would recommend to nearby locals.

I really enjoy Thai food and this place was quite delicious. I visited with a friend and we had a fantastic time. The staff were very kind. The curry puff chicken was a little dry but didn't stop me from finishing the dish.

This is our regular local place for an eat-in or takeaway Thai. Great food and fast service, lovely ambience. A must try if you haven't been here. And good value for money.
Daniel
A good, consistent quality of food. It's by no means the best Thai food out there, but for a quick meal or a take home dinner, I wouldn't hesitate to stop in.

Found myself in Rosanna venturing to the local theatre to see a friends play. The show wasn't much chop but the pre production Thai dinner was fantastic. Veggie spring rolls, chicken curry puffs and satay with roti- we started with all the classics which were well executed. Massamun and gang dang (red curry) were packed with flavour as were the satay vegetables. If you find yourself nearby it's serving up traditional Thai with the added bonus of byo. The atmosphere also really reminded me of being in Thailand. Perhaps it was the tranquil massage like music echoing softly in the background but regardless it's definitely a local gem

Went there with the family Friday night. Ordered the clay pot Tom yum style cooked chicken; stir fry chicken with vegetables; satay chicken; and roti with sweet and spicy peanut dip.

The Satay chicken had the flavours right but was overcooked and dry. The stir fry chicken was OK but skimpy on the chicken.

The clay pot cooked Tom Yum style chicken was the dish that probably redeemed the night for us. The favours were spot on and one could tell that it was definitely cooked in a clay pot.

But overall the service was edgy and unfriendly . They served us coconut water which we had not asked for. Came back a minute back , grumbled and created a fuss that it was not for our table .

Good enough Place if you don't have anything spesh on...and you live near by. Nothing to really get too excited about, service is friendly and attentive enough and dishes pretty much on par with many a decent Thai place.

Great food, close to the best thai i've had in Melbourne. Curry's are flavoursome and tender, and the table water service is a nice touch. Have no hesitation coming here again, and might even book for next week right now!

Also.... Hot is actually a nice hot (many 'hot' I would call mild) and lots of veges!

-----08 Sep, 2015-----

So good!. Pretty sure that was the best satay sauce I have had!

Disappointed. The first time I ordered their pork pad thai and it was excellent. Second time wasn't quite the same. It wasn't as loose and lacked a bit of sourness so it felt like a box of heavy goop. The pork was dried and over cooked. I had to pour the sauce in to it from the money bag entree to make it just ok. The money bag was good.
Please pick up your game. I really liked this place before.

Usually yummy. I've eaten here three times. Whilst this, like many Thai restaurants, it can be a bit on the sweet side for my liking, it's generally very tasty and portions are good. Service is good, decor pleasant and not too noisy. There are other very good Thai restaurants nearby, so they certainly wouldn't want to drop their game. The menu can be a little confusing but you get the hang of it. We seem to always include the Pad See Ew (pork)

This the second time I have tried their green curry and it has been terrible. The curry has split, the oil just sits on top. Won't be going back!
Red Rabbit
Light and airy restaurant, welcoming staff and nice food. Ordered a couple of curries and Pad Thai to share with friends. Wasn't disappointed - fresh flavours and a choice of curry strengths. Will be back....

Fantastic Thai food. Very very good. Have ordered multiple times and had a variety of dishs including the curries and rice noodles. The Pad Thai is great, full of flavor and cooked with a high level of skill and passion. The same can be said of the curries, roti etc. Do yourself a favor and check out this guy's.
Natacha
A regular spot which I keep going back to, yum yum yum!

Had takeaway from the watsonia store tonight. It was perfect. Even the kids loved it. 10/10

Northern suburbs must be desperate for dining.... ...to rate this place so highly. Eaten here three times, with meals ranging from average to awful last visit. Three strikes and out. Ordered a Thai favourite, yum pla muk (squid salad), the worst I've ever had. Mostly iceberg lettuce (what the?) and chilli hot but without flavour and balance. The roti was rubbery, the peanut sauce bland, noodles OK but the serves (all of them) stingy. Overpriced, mediocre and definitely overrated Thai food.

Excellent food, highly recommend the lamb massaman curry with coconut rice

Food is edible but i can't see what's the fuss about. Its just over priced Thai food.
Had better.

Best Thai food in the Banyule area! So popular they opened a second restaurant in Watsonia! The food is reliable, both in house and takeaway! The pad thai is a must try as well as the green thai curry! Definitely worth a visit!

Pretty good local Thai restaurant. Friendly and efficient staff. Clean premises. Consistently good food which I have had many times, both in the restaurant and home delivery. Favourite dish is probably the Tom yum prawns as a main.
LL
Attentive service (maybe sometimes slightly too attentive but it was a quietish week night), nice warm ambience, and fairly reasonable price. And delish food! The pork spring rolls were fresh, crispy, n lightly peppered, prawns in the pad Thai were lovely and juicy, and our 'make it real hot' request w.r.t. the chicken red curry was definitely adhered to! Proud to be making it our local Thai joint!
Rosie
Absolutely love coming here. Best Thai food around. Always good service and awesome atmosphere. Yum!
Georgina
Came to get take away and first impression on the serve is shocking the staff member who served me was talking to another person while I was ordering shocked I didn't walk away. Just rude!
Kate.tosin
Very good. I could eat the vegetarian curry puffs all day. The roti bread is a little too oily for my liking, but very delicious regardless. The service is great too!

Great food. I loved the food! We asked for mild and it was mild and we asked for hot and it was actually really hot! Perfect!

Disappointed. Just got some.... Disappointed.
Just got some take away - the panang v poor.

Great food. We love this restaurant. We have dined in once and had take away many times and have not been disappointed. The service is great, the food tasty and very authentic. Definitely worth a visit!

Have only been once so far for dinner but plan to return as soon as possible. Delicious food and great service. Bookings essential on Friday and Saturday nights.

Suburban Gem. Like the previous review, we return time after time and have never been dissapointed. Great food and friendly and attentive staff (even let me BYOB on my 1st visit - impressive!)

Life to Rosanna!. Baan Thai has become a local favourite of ours! Food is exceptional and we continue to return here time after time. Staff are welcoming and nothing is ever to much trouble. Recommend making a reservation as it is often booked out on weekends nights but also appears to do a roaring trade throughout the week.
