We loved Baro, a modern Turkish themed cafe restaurant on the Point Nepean Road. There’s lots to admire here. The food is terrific. We had three dishes. Vine leaves. The mixed platter comprising lamb and chicken. Some fries. Each was superb. The vine leaves were utterly delicious and full of flavour. They were as fresh as a daisy and as good as I’ve tasted anywhere. The fries were beauties too. Cooked to perfection. The platter too was extremely good as well. The meat was cooked magnificently, with the chicken being particularly fond. As beautifully cooked and spiced as could be and full of moisture. I also loved the sliced onion and sumac. All dishes were presented very nicely. All were very generously sized too and you can easily share one of the platters between two.
We felt the main issue here was a curious one. An ordinary street presence and a quirky entrance and layout. The cafe restaurant isn’t sufficient prominent doesn’t really appeal enough from the road. The layout is modern in a new building but is a little eccentric.
We strongly recommend looking past these things. The main things, the food and service, are excellent here. We will certainly return soon.

Baro is a lovely family owned business that has a Turkish influence. The menu is not huge and could do with some specials but what they have on it is cooked to perfection. The skewered meat is cooked over open flames and if you are lucky enough you can sit and watch them cook. The skewers come with salad, pita and a sauce, the flavours are beautiful. On a Saturday night the chef comes from behind the grill to bang out some music on the drums
Went to Baro on a Saturday night for a special dinner. Could not fault it. Food was very nice, the staff were friendly and the music was just the right volume
Overall really enjoyed it
The place was mentioned to have a live music. It turned out a Turkish music was given via speakers and there was an old drummer that put an extra beat. The atmosphere was ok.
The food looked great. Extra vinegar was put in the salads. Bread should have been served when it was fresh.
The kebab tasted marvelous. The red chilli and and tomato could stayed on the grill extra minute.
Overall, ok Turkish food.
I will definitely go there again to try something else.
The service from a young hospitality team was lovely and accommodating.
The food was full of flavour and fresh. The meals were larger then we expected.
Just had dinner here for our wedding anniversary,so delish. Softest bread ive ever had with dips. Barramundi was lovely as was the lamb. Very filling , probably should have shared one main with the dips. Would highly recommend, beautiful staff that waited on us ✌️💓
The food was really good and served within in 15mins after placing an order. We really enjoyed the lamb and chicken skewers. I would say a good balance of protein and carbs and you won’t feel heavy afterwards.
We had the Mix plate (lamb and chicken) and also the Adana plate. All meats were flavoursome and tender although the highlight was the lamb. Charred on charcoal. Cannot fault any of it - all were tasty in its own individual way. Good balance of flavours on one plate. Tastes very clean. Chips were crunchy and generous.
Thanks
Fantastic feed. Great service. Satisfied 👍
Definitely the best charcoal lamb skewers I've had in Victoria. And I have had so many bad ones. Fantastic tender meat and tasty. Highly recommended
Found this place randomly by looking where to eat after visiting Cape Schanck.
This place firstly looks nice and well designed. The owner served us with a warm welcome and was really helpful with giving me and my friends recommendation for the food options.
We got a mix of lamb& chicken and cevapi, great dishes. However, I would definitely recommend chicken over the lamb after trying them both.
The Turkish coffee was great as well, a little bit of sweetness in there which I wasn't expecting.
I would have to say this is not cheap but would say it is worth a try if you have a chance.
The owner told me they would have the band playing live some nights as well.
We were very pleasantly surprised to find this gem. Basically Turkish cuisine and delicious. I give 5 stars only for exceptional food, service and ambience. This was a birthday lunch that was exceptional.
We started with a dozen oysters which were fresh tasting and with plenty of lemon.
Then we shared the adana plate and a lamb skewers. The lamb was tender and moist with great flavour. Then it was finished with a Turkish coffee and delight. Just the thing to end lunch. Oh, and the service was fantastic looking after all our wants.
We will be back for lunches there!
