Brewtown coffee, a selection of 23 loose leaf teas, house-made pies, cakes and slices with traditional Italian pastries baked onsite. Great food, service and ambience plus free two hour parking in surrounding streets. What’s not to love about Where the Bean Drops.

Bottom Line: An absolute gem. Go there. Now. Before I go on; I have no affiliation with this cafe. I work locally so my only vested interest is in good cafes surviving. All my soppy frothing at the mouth is a spontaneous response to a great place. The cafe options on the Balmain side of The Sackville have long been wanting. Since the Turkish family sold the Hangry cafe that space has sadly been through numerous failed attempts which have missed the mark on quality, efficiency, and vibe. A little further down Darling toward Balmain is this little gem of a cafe in the space where the Zest Patisserie once was. Six months ago the cafe that took Zest's place changed hands and is now the enigmatically named Where The Bean Drops. I first dropped in to get a coffee when my usual (closest) closed. Hmmm... great coffee (decent shot of strong roast, excellent foam, good temperature). So I thought I'd try lunch. Somehow I chose a pie to take away. I'm not usually a pie guy; I've had lots of bad pies (I live in Australia, after all) and a very few very good pies. This thing blew my mind. So I returned and had a different lamb pie; once again it was spectacular; premium quality meat, tender, perfectly balanced flavours and textures, the sweetness of the baked pumpkin... like eating a lamb roast in a perfect pastry. So I got talking to the chef, Dom, and (one of?) the owners, Chinzia. Turns out Dom used to chef at Icebergs, Bondi, among other top notch eateries. This guy is the real deal. He just seems to genuinely love serving top quality nosh, no matter what the setting. The pies: he slow cooks the lamb for 9 hours during the day before, makes his own gravy, etc, etc. So now I was starting to understand why this pie blew my mind - because I had never actually had a pie made with such skill and care. The other dishes also look delicious. The veggie stack looks incredible. There's a Southern Italian theme owing to their heritage, so you'll get some unique dishes like a spaghetti frittata. Maybe try the 'wog sushi'!* I'm going to have to work through them all. Chinzia also makes her own excellent cakes and sweets. The place is starting to attract the locals. My opinion is that word will get out and things will get busy for such a tiny space. For purely selfish reasons I'm hoping they make this little space in this no-mans-land part of 'the peninsula' succeed because I love good coffee, reasonably-priced quality food, and warm, generous hosts. HIPSTER WARNING: no single origin bean of the day, no man buns, no bicycles on the wall, no drip filtered, no beards... actually, I didn't even see Smashed Avo on the menu! OMFG! But I'm guessing if you really want smashed avo (personally, I'm a fan and no, I can't afford a house in Sydney), they'll probably make it for you; they seem like those kind of people. Buon appetito. * Highlighting the friendly vibe, I'm sitting there eating and a local man of Italian heritage who has obviously been here before comes in and exclaims, "Where's the wog sushi?! A jovial conversation ensues between customers and staff and the 'sushi' is revealed as some kind of carpaccio bruschetta thing; obviously another Italian specialty.

Love At First Bite
Where the Bean Drops is a cafe situated in Rozelle that serves great Mediterranean fusion brunch dishes. They have an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, including 23 different types of teas! Their passion for food is seen in their homemade ingredients and baked pastries and pie selection. We popped by one day for brunch, keen to try the place out.

From its family oriented foundations to its mouth watering dishes and exceptional customer service, this family cafe is ticking all the right boxes! I had the privilege (and pleasure) of sampling some new dishes including the Breakfast Bagel (fluffy scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, spinach & this divine aioli???? sauce), Fried Egg & Chorizo Bruschetta (fried egg, grilled chorizo, feta & roasted capsicum) & a refreshing Acai Bowl w seasonal fruit toppings, roasted granola & coconut! I loved that constructive feedback was appreciated, and that the lovely owners and front of house staff (Cinzia and Elena) were so friendly and warm welcoming! Oh and that there's 23 different teas to choose from... say WHAAAAT?! Ps. Check out that presentation... killin it!! Can't wait to come back! Thank you so much for having us.... Mimi :)
Postcards From Peta
Just down on Darling St away from the most busy part, lies this cute little cafe. With both indoor and outdoor seating, when we were here for brunch I think we would have seen about 50 dogs walk past. . Service is friendly. Cafe is super busy for a small cafe as they do ubereats too. They have so many tea variations this would be the perfect place for afternoon tea because their pastries and baking is on point.

Would recommend it to family and friends.

Where the Bean Drops has been open for about 4 months now and it is in a great spot on Darling Street between Rozelle and Balmain. The staff will make you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. Make sure you try the coffee it is a brewtown blend the perfect combination of creamy and strong. It was a tough choice between the brekkie and lunch menu but we went for the breakfast bruschetta and the classic Mediterranean baked eggs. The baked eggs are the best choice for winter combining roast tomato, chorizo, Spanish onion, homemade sauce and Parmesan cheese with sourdough. The breakfast bruschetta had perfectly poached eggs and make sure you add salmon or prosciutto for something extra. This cafe is a little gem!

*Thank you @omptymedia for this invite, thank you as well to Where the bean drops for their hospitality . This cafe is a Rozelle local’s haven and as we approached, there was an incredible buzz on the streets. We were greeted by the friendly owners as we entered and on a glorious winter day, we decided to sit outside and soak in the sunshine and bathe in fresh air.

Top 10 reasons why I love this popular cafe "Where the Bean Drops" in between Balmain and Rozelle:<br/><br/>1) Staff/owners Cinzia and Alexandra are very attentive and like to have a chat with customers. Customer service is key!<br/>2) These girls really love cooking and providing the best quality home cooked dishes for their customers! <br/>3) Their pies are absolutely top quality. Tried the chicken pie and it was the best I've had for a very long time! So much tasty chicken with wholesome ingredients rather than lots of sauce, gravy and thickeners. Delicious pastry too.<br/>4) The best French toast ever served with top quality mixed berry compote, mascarpone, maple syrup and Persian fairy floss.<br/>5) Everything on the menu is made on the premises!<br/>6) They have 23 types of interesting loose leaf teas! Want to come back and try them all! Enjoyed the refreshing Arabian Mint!<br/>7) They use Brewtown beans and the coffee is really great!<br/>8) While I was there they baked a batch of brownies and brought one for me to try, straight from the oven! A very vibrant, funky mural really adds to the fun, creative nature of the place!<br/>10) They have now started doing Uber Eats so a great option for the local community! When we arrived for breakfast, I was a complete stranger to Where the Bean Drops. By the time we’d finished breakfast, I felt like we had known the owners all our lives.<br/><br/>The owners are Cinzia and Alexandra. Exuding warmth and hospitality, they are genuinely passionate about the food and customer experience they provide in their newly opened café.<br/><br/>Their exhaustive search and selection of a coffee supplier reflects their approach to things; with Rozelle and neighbouring Balmain already well catered for in the coffee department, WTBD differentiates itself with beans from innovative local roaster Brewtown. And judging by the stream of coffee orders throughout the morning, it has been given the tick of approval by their customers.<br/><br/>Not only is the coffee seriously good, there is also a selection of 23 loose leaf teas, and Cinzia shows great delight as she opens jar after jar for me to inhale the intoxicating aromas of Arabian Mint to Punjabi Chai. It doesn’t make choosing which tea to have any easier but I’m sold on the alluringly exotic concoction of Lime and Coconut, which is faintly reminiscent of Malibu. Tea is served in a glass rather than ceramic teapot, “so you can see the tea leaves”. It’s this level of attention to detail which reflects their pedigree in the hospitality industry.<br/><br/>The café is still experimenting with the menu – but I can only describe everything we had as being fresh and flavoursome.<br/><br/>An acai bowl is every vegan’s delight, and the smoothie bowl at WTBD is a rainbow of colour with fresh seasonal fruit, and added texture and crunch from crushed hazelnuts, almond flakes, chia seeds and coconut.<br/><br/>The big breakfast is a crowd pleaser; Eggs are served perfectly soft poached, with crispy bacon, tasty sausage, sautéed spinach and mushrooms, grilled tomato, potato rosti and toasted sourdough.<br/><br/>And then there are the pancakes and bacon. Three fluffy pancakes are draped one on top of each other, alongside a generous tangle of bacon with a side of maple syrup. I found each bite of pancake and bacon a perfect balance of sweet and salty.<br/><br/>With a nod to the previous inhabitants of the site, WTBD offers a delectable range of house-made cakes as well as traditional Italian pastries baked onsite. Maybe if I visit often enough, and order it often enough, I’ll eventually be able to pronounce sfogliatelle fluently. Irrespective of how well you say it, it is indeed la dolce vita when you wrap your lips around one of those gloriously flaky pastries.<br/><br/>Visiting WTBD was like being reunited with an old friend. We left with full bellies and happy hearts, and count down the days til we return. Thank you Ompty for the introduction, and Cinzia and Alexandra for a wonderful breakfast.<br/><br/>***edited 01NOV17***<br/><br/>Since discovering WTBD some months ago, I've returned many a time to try out different items from the menu. Most recently, I popped in for brunch with a friend and we enjoyed perfectly poached eggs; she had hers with the breakfast bruschetta and I had mine atop fluffy focaccia, fresh from the oven. The Punjabi chai, served with soy milk and honey is also beautifully aromatic.<br/><br/>Chef Dom has taken over the kitchen reins, introducing a new menu with homemade pasta such as gnocchi and Tagliatelle all'uovo with a beef ragu, and Angus steak burgers on a charcoal bun.<br/><br/>The food is consistently great and you can always be assured of a warm welcome from Cinzia and the team.

Where the Bean Drops is a cosy little cafe located on Darling St in Rozelle. On a cold rainy day,  I pop by for some breakfast with Matt. I love this area.Where the Bean Drops is a small but bustling cafe. It's quite warm inside but I also see a few tables outside as well. The menu is simple in choice but they also have specials on as well. FOR FULL REVIEW and PHOTOS go to the BLOG POST
Bean There Done That
Agree with the earlier review that their coffee is fantastic, and nice they found a new local roaster too that isn't Campos (relief). Food is of a high standard and their home made pies are awesome - big thumbs up for that. Been there some days and they've sold out, which says alot. Went there again for coffee one morning and they had fresh Italian pastries that they bake onsite.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Testimony to blended families, Where The Bean Drops, is a new cafe venture by Alexandra Agrillo and her step-mum, Cinzia Agrillo. The pair are in their ninth week of operation, after opening their Rozelle doors a mere three weeks after Alexandra moved to Sydney to live with her father. While Alexandra has just four years in hospitality under her belt, Cinzia operated a café in neighbouring Leichhardt a decade ago. Their joint venture walks a nice line between youthfulness and experience, with a modern colourful mural offset by homely touches from knickknacks to gift-packs of flavoured salts. With the name centralising coffee, I’m pleased to report that the beans – Metropolis by Brewtown Coffee Roasters in Newtown – scrub up well across a Latte ($3.50) and a Flat White ($3.50).Their coffee is even better if you let Cinzia twist your arm into a mini Sfogliatelle ($2.50/each), combining a crisp, flaky pastry shell with soft creamy ricotta cheese and orange peel, served fresh from the oven. The citrus in it makes it a winner with their Juice of the Day ($7/small) – apple, orange, lime and carrot – as well. However before you get your mitts buried too deeply in their house-made pastries, croissants, slices and cakes, let me tell you that the real highlights here are the...
