Definitely a favourite cafe of mine. The coffee and food are both delicious, and the staff are very friendly. My only suggestion of improvement would be to get some IKEA-style high chairs because the current wooden ones are not very safe. But overall, I highly recommend this place!
great setup and great food :) would easily recommend this place to anyone :)
Love the coffee and the coffee art. Good serving portion good food so far
As a local, I'm delighted that we have a cafe of this calibre in the area. The decor, food and coffee is consistently of a high standard and the staff are alway friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend checking Once upon a Time out if you haven't already! My one recommendation would be improved lighting downstairs-just a tad gloomy-but love the garden bit out the back.
The environment is great, people are friendly and professional, food is good with imaginative presentation. I really enjoy it
Amazing experience for breakfast we're from Newcastle.
Cafe industrial / antique decor blew me away.
Service very prompt and pleasant.
Food was very tasty and choice adequate and coffee very nice.
Highly recommend visit if your down Sydney way. Thank for sharing your imagination ☆☆☆☆☆.
The food is not the best Iv had but the staff are super friendly & the atmosphere is inviting, cosy & intimate. I love this cafe.
What an atmosphere! Lovely turn of the century error decor. Beautiful mouth wAtering delights for brekky. All healthy n beautifully presented! Loved it!
Super cute cafe where you can just relax and chill out with friends or study for hours on end. Staff are super friendly and helpful, food is good and coffee is delicious!
It's huge. It's funky. The stereo is on the perfect station...the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon was tops and good coffee. The downstairs section is a cool, chilled out place to escape. Nicely done.
Very nicely designed interior giving strong historical vibes. Food is very aesthetic and decent.
Big brekky: 7/10
Salmon stack: 7.5/10
Great decor inside. Beverages are reasonably priced. The coffee is quite good. It is on the light roast side. Fine coffee art. Saw many people have lunch here. The dishes look impressive. Should try here later with Xihuahua 🐶 .
This is my local weekend go-to brunch place. Great coffee. Nice food presentation and big menu options. ✌🏻
Have been here around 10 times, have received consistently great food every time! Always presented well and cooked to perfection! My favourite breakfast location without a doubt
Nice and special cafe! It has 2 floors, the whole cafe is decorated in the style that makes you feel like time travelling - to several decades ago. Food was good, coffee was great. Very busy cafe so staff could be slightly unattended but still friendly.
This is our favourite local coffee shop. It has a rustic decor, lovely staff and speedy food service. We love coming here with our son and enjoying our coffee with a sweet treat.
Mum and I went there for coffee. This place is cute as. We recognized so many pieces of household paraphernalia from years gone by. The choices are fairly standard. Mum had blueberry cheesecake and i had the scones and jam and cream. Both were good. The coffee was great though and the service was fast and friendly. A great cafe in my home town.
From the outside, Cafe once upon a time may look like a standard cafe. Upon going inside, it’s like you’ve entered an antique store crossed a Bunnings warehouse nursery.
The patio has a beer garden vibe, especially at night with their lights.
The menu has an all day breakfast, and a vast array of cakes!!! I definitely suggest the sweet potato cake or strawberry cake!
New king of cafe in West Ryde.
Spacious interior with vintage decor. Great assortment of drinks with reasonable prices. But we all know what makes a good cafe is the food.
We got a pulled pork sandwich and an egg bacon and hash roll. Picture looks as good as it tastes.
That’s all!
Cute little cafe with a nice rustic decor and feel to it. I brought my mum here to have brunch for Mother's Day, and she particularly liked their Belgian breakfast. I was happy with this place too, their menu has a good range of food and it's not overly pricey, depending on what you order. Their Portuguese Chicken Burger was really nice too, although it was a bit messy to eat and not the most stable burger construction. The Oriental omelette was probably the weakest dish, with only four tiny pieces of duck on top.
Overall I'll probably be back again, this is a nice place to hang out and enjoy a good cup of coffee.
My fav here is the chai latte they make! Come here again and again just for that :) Perfect. the ambiance here is very rustic - which i personally love :)
Industrial rustic cafe. Very unique. Food and staff are excellent. Beautiful food presentation that matches taste. Love coming back to this place.
The food is amazing here, the range that they offer and the portion is so worth the price. I love the atmosphere and the staff are wonderful! It’s Really family friendly as well. Highly recommend !
Once Upon A Time is always my pick for meals in West Ryde. The service is great and the actual establishment itself looks great. The meals there are great. I recommend the duck burrito or the pork bao sliders.
Came here to catch up with a friend over brunch and was pleasantly surprised by this place. Their menu is rather extensive (perhaps too much) so they're able to cater for all.
I ordered the Big Breakfast and sweet potato latte - given that the food was served well within 10min of ordering, I'm guessing most of the food was pre-made and assembled to order on the hot pan. Food was pretty good, although a bit oily from the chorizo.
Friend ordered their french toast - the bread slices were from a tiny bread loaf but layered with ample fruit.
I've been here before and I will come here again!! A cafe that will substitute meat in the eggs benedict for avocado 🥑 is OK with me - especially when it's delicious poached eggs & hollaindaise with it 😁😁 mint & lemon crush is just as good as it sounds! My friends had Belgium breakfast & Big breakfast - they're most than pleased....and full 😋
This place has quite interesting decor, good atmosphere for afternoon cuppa and chats. I ordered Monarco French Toast, nice platings but average taste. The toast can be fluffier. The coffee is good. Rating for a Sydney average.
Had breakfast there today. House made scones with cream and jam. And toasted banana bread. Both were good.. That was enough to fill our tummy. And a cappuccino to go with it made us feel stuffed.. Good place. With lot of once upon time used things as collections..
A regular place when we crave for something sweet and Coffee..
The coffee here is great, after trying the coffee we decided to give the food a go too - wasn't disappointed! Along with good food, the atmosphere and look of the cafe was great too.
They have the best sweet potato latte in Sydney! Very busy cafe, staff friendly & efficient. Their drinks menu was quite interesting. Would come back again to try other drinks such as the kiwi apple smoothie, earl grey latte & green tea latte.
Great place, good coffee and one of the best eggs Benedict you can buy across Sydney. Friendly staff and worthwhile going either for a quick drink or a nice meal
Love the interior of this cafe. It has a very vintage feel to it and the first time I walked in I fell in love with it. This cafe has an extensive beverage menu. Food is great too though I think the menu changed since the last time I've been here. Great place to hang out. Love it!
Once upon a time. Our local coffee shop, only a year old. Coffee and snacks are great. Double story, quirky, antique collectable cafe.

Cool little cafe in the baron wasteland of West Ryde. the way it has been decorated as an antique cottage type feel is a nice touch, with the little garden courtyard. Good breakfast and lunch menu. The grilled chicken sandwich is great. If you are local, definitely check it out. By far the best in West Ryde (Not that it is saying much there...)
Waiting for the chemist to open - what does a coffee addict like me do? Have a coffee at Cafe once upon a time of course.
Lovely fit out and funky feel.
Piccolo made perfectly and I love a little biscuit to go with it..
I'll be back for breakfast soon...
When you live in suburbia, new cafes/restaurants opening up like Once Upon a Time are exciting. With a small line of eateries opening up on West Parade in West Ryde, I was eagerly awaiting the opening of Once Upon a time. As you enter, you will see lots of wooden looking furniture and country-looking furnishings like a giant wooden wheel. I order the big breakfast (top photo, $18) which includes bacon, eggs, chorizo, grilled cherry tomato, mushroom, hash brown and lightly toasted sourdough served in a small pan.
Ok I haven't tried the food here but my piccolo latte was excellent. The decor is quite stunning and despite what you may think the place is huge inside with a thin corridor snaking its way back to an alfresco area at the back. A nice addition to the growing west ryde café scene. P.s. It's dark inside. Really dark. Nice for dinner, not so good for reading the paper.
Super cute cafe! The sweet potato latte was delicious and the food was really tasty. Serving sizes were decent aswell. Great little suburban cafe.
Loving this place! Rustic decor and efficient service. Food was really tasty and not overly oily. We ordered the big breakfast and the pulled pork burger which was tops. Earl grey latte was really good. Will definitely come back!
Coffee is suburb. Great place to chill with friends or even just head here for a coffee/tea after dinner at a nearby place. I found the coffee consistent and service is friendly.
Comfortable, spacious cafe with nice drinks and a good selection of sweets. Service was fast and attentive. They open late which is a bonus too. Will be back!!
Nice cosy cafe, food and service was very good, no gluten free options which is a shame but maybe something for them to think about in the future, good sized serving portions as well!
This is a cute cafe located in West Ryde that offers a delicious menu and a vast range of drinks and tea cakes. They offer a green tea latte that always wins me over when I see it being offered. I highly recommend the B.L.A.R.T. Sandwich !!! It was packed with juicy bacon and fresh soft avocado.

Cute little vintage cafe! The decor is really nice they have a lot of vintage items all upstairs and downstairs. The table I sat on was an old school sewing machine - a treadle!
Opened only a week ago so I got to sample some house made orange pancakes with orange compote, ricotta and Canadian maple this morning. Hmm pancakes! Tasty
I also tried for the first time their earl grey latte. Yes, you heard correctly. Tastes exactly how you expect - a staff member told me that it is a collaboration Twinings and another company (will investigate further). But is it soo good! Must try it if you are in the area.
They also have a sweet potato latte! That is next on my list.
Breakfast is avail 7am to 11.30.
Lunch 11.30 -3pm.
Loved my first time and will definitely be back to sample something from this well designed menu.
Mind blowing breakfast. Food was amazingly fresh, well presented, and phenomenal to the taste buds.
Staff were happy and friendly. The kitchen spotless, kitchen were regimented and a well oiled machine, food arrived as advertised and in a timely fashion.
Hard to find fault here.
Best time to go a Sunday morning for us, we arrived at 9 and was getting busy as we left.
Highly recommend.
Even the lunch menu looked unreal.

Really awesome place. There are many cafes in West Ryde area, I tend to reach at every corners to support their business. However, if I miss to have coffee in this “One Upon a Time”, family run cafe, I feel I missed something that day. They have a juvenile team who are pretty quick in service. I love the atmosphere- it’s full of antique pieces and beautiful music on the background. They serve really nice coffee with nice latte art! I have breakfast here as well. It’s nice one and I advise everyone to try out.
The decor at this cafe is really fascinating. They have made use of old sewing machines to form tables. I really liked the vintage vibe going on. Food wise I had the Benedict and mushroom toast. Both were tasty and a decent portion. Coffee was also good. Definitely worth checking out if in the West ryde area
Great food, great coffee, great service. For breakfast, my husband ordered a Belgian Breakfast and I ordered a Duck Burrito. Both were delicious. The portions were so big that we didnt need lunch and only ate a light dinner on the day.
Most unique place to spent coffee time. Rustic and antique items makes the place more interesting. Especially sewing machine coffee table
Mushroom Toast with truffle oil, halloumi
And a poached egg, was really nice:) The iced tea was well worth it too! We tried the peach and the lemon flavored.
Great food and decent menu. Beautifully served, rich and distinguished taste. Defiantly should try their Norwegian Brekkie. Love their coffee and its quite Sensational. Their staff are friendly and polite.
Thank you Team.
