I happened upon Tatsuya one night and was lucky to get in. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Great for couple or family or friends. Quality of food - especially the sashimi and sushi - is great. Very fresh. Have been there 3x since. It’s a really good “regular”.
Solid place for some sushi, especially sashimi. Most of the times I go, the sashimi is quite fresh but just be wary that you need to book.
Food is fast to get and the choices are pretty standard with every sushi spot.
This is probably the only place you can get sushi in West Ryde that does a lot of sashimi.
After living in West Ryde for almost 10 years, I used to be a regular at Tatsuya which is a Japanese eatery located beside a carwash. Now that I have moved away, I don't come here as regularly but I come back to see if the consistency has changed. I often find myself being turned away from Tatsuya if I haven't got a booking so I try to book ahead if I can. Tatsuya is a tiny venue with about 10 tables that is best known for their thickly cut sashimi.
Tatsuyas can be best described as wholesome- you get hearty and large servings of Japanese food, for evenhanded prices. Their sushi and bento boxes are my go-to meals when I’m in the area. Plus the staff are so nice and welcoming.
From outside, Tatsuyas looks slightly dated and middling on authenticity. For people wanting the whole "Japanese experience" then i suggest that this place probably isn't for you, and lean your direction towards an izakaya or something.
Im pleasantly surprise by this restaurant located at a car wash! Very happy with out experience.
The food is fresh and delicious. Most importantly very good value for money. Really liked the grilled salmon roll, not only there’s salmon on top, theres also a big piece in the middle.
We even manage to pack the leftovers for another meal!

Fresh and delicious sashimi and sushi rolls. Tempura was great too, crunchy and good diping sauce. not a fan of the yaki soba. Would recommend this place

Tatsuya is usually busy so I would recommend coming to dinner early or even booking. The katsu curry looked massive and tasted good! Surprisingly I finished it and I think it was because the curry was just spread out. I would have liked if there were more veggies in the curry. The cheese roll katsu was really good too where the cheese stretched out and the pork was still moist. Would recommend you try the cheese roll katsu!
Come for the sushi and sashimi sets, the portions are generous and very fresh.
Cooked dishes are average. Be sure to make a booking before you come as they can get quite busy.
Best to book before hand to avoid disappointment. Japanese food made by Korean people. Ordered the cheese katsu roll, regular sushi and sashimi platter and beef yakiniku. The crispy katsu with oozing cheese and deliciously thick portions of sashimi were the highlight of the meal. Beef yakiniku was nothing to write home about.
Nothing over the top or fancy. Overall good honest food.
Really nice small Japanese restaurant that I swear has been at the corner of the roundabout forever. We had seats at the bar because we didn't book, but it was alright and the service was pretty quick. Food was delicious, I liked my curry Katsu a lot and the sushi and sashimi platter was nice and fresh. Will be back in the future!

Great local Japanese restaurant. We had the Sushi Set which consisted of sashimi sushi and cold soba, the sashimi was really fresh and the cold soba tasty. The fried chicken was also a delicious addition to our meal. Hidden gem in West Ryde! It's always full!
9/17 We went back again for the udon noodle soup with tempura and katsu chicken and they were equally satisfying!
Best udon and Katsu I have Sydney! But, please be careful if you order tempura, the prawn isn't fresh at all. But, overall still my favourite little Japanese restaurant so far!
Small, cosy Japanese restaurant with Korean employees. We ordered Spicy Pork, Soft Shelled Crab and a Dragon Roll for $55. Quite expensive however the food was amazing!! The downside would be the price and small quantity. I highly recommend ordering the Soft Shell Crab.
Delicious authentic Japanese food. The sashimi was fresh and clean. Teriyaki salmon was also very good. The agadashi tofu is worth a miss. Ate the last two before I could take a photo.
Got a good place for eating lunch, but for dinner you may have to reserve a table since the restaurant is quite small. The staffs are friendly as well.
We like the Tariyaki Chicken and Salmon. The soft crab roll is tasty the as well. Lunch for 2 people costs about $30.
It's situated at an odd spot and the place itself doesn't look as swanky as one might expect but the food is absolutely delicious. I have been here many times, usually for their $22 lunch set with sushi, pork katsu and udon or soba. The katsu is perfectly cooked, crisp exterior with a juicy hot interior and serviced with a delicious type of vinegar sweet bbq sauce. Sushi is fresh and you get a great variety (not just salmon or tuna). Udon is served with a great broth that isn't too salty or oily. I definitley recommend coming for the food (I even takeaway on a regular basis). The service won't be super friendly but I felt welcomed and enjoyed my meals overall.

Pretty decent sushi quite comparable to Hakuya in Eastwood.
The restaurant is pretty small, also like Hakuya, so its best to dine a little earlier or make a booking. The waitresses were friendly and service was quick.
Really enjoyed the spider roll and pink Mayo. I do think however the hui dup bap (assorted sashimi on rice) at Hakuya is tastier and has more sashimi.
Pricing is quite moderate, overall was a good dinner, sushi done well.
-------- second visit in and I almost have a new favourite. The sashimi is definitely value for money and fresh. The chicken katsu was juicy with a great crunch and the soba noodles were so refreshing.

Tatsuya is West Ryde’s pride and joy. Always busy but efficient, if only they also worked on the attitude of some staff members. But you come here for the food really, and it’s always satisfying.
Try the sashimi – the slices are cut thicker than other places and it’s always so plump and fresh. Because the ingredients are always so fresh, you can’t go wrong with any of the sushi/sashimi combos.
Recently I tried a couple of their other offerings such as the fish katsu and hui dup bup. The fish was cooked to absolute perfection where, inside the crispy outer it was so soft and flaky. Solid meal on its own and under $15 too. Again with the fresh, juicy sashimi in the hui dup bup (hwe dub bab) – it was a generous serving also. Hwe is sashimi in Korean so this dish is pretty much a sashimi bibimbab. A lot of restaurants skimp on the fish and add more vegetables, but not at Tatsuya! More than enough to satisfy your sashimi craving without getting a separate dish altogether.
I know quite a few people living in neighbouring suburbs who come here to get their fix. You know what to expect here, and pretty much will always get a satisfying tasty meal.
I have eaten at Tatsuya's numerous times and have never been disappointed. It can get very busy, it only seats around 30 people. Make a booking for dinner, I've been caught out on a Tuesday night, I couldn't get a table for two people!
i was recommended this place by a West Ryde local that told me that they had tetsuya there.. lol ... well he meant tatsuya ... what a great neighbourhood gem. Place was busy throughout my time there and even people were getting turned away. I highly recommend the cheese katsu don... its amazing.

Food and service is always great here at Tatsuya. Sushi is high quality and served in large portions. It is recommended to make a reservation prior to arrival as the restaurant is always packed during peek times!

I like to try out different restaurants but one that I keep coming back to time and time again is Tatsuya. Not the hatted Tetsuya, but a similarly sounding Japanese restaurant in West Ryde. Agedashi tofu is one of my favourite things to order at Tatsuya.

Tastuya is still a fairly new restaurant, located next to the budget petrol station at West Ryde. Ever since it opened last year, there hasn't been a time when this little place was empty. Cheap prices but delicious. Plus, their servings are more than enough and their rolls are stuffed with fresh fillings - none of those rolls that are three quarters rice. After our respective tutoring sessions, we always stagger out of the freezing sub-zero temperatures of the library, craving something hot and hearty to warm ourselves. Usually, we're too hungry and weak to cook our own steaks at the West Ryde Hotel bistro, so we often frequent Tatsuya for their warm, warm noodle soups. The Man recently realized he always makes faces in photos. So this is him posing 'nicely' for the camera :) Our usuals. Hot soba, udon, and the soft shell crab roll. Yummy! Tempura udon. The soup is really the best I've had in Sydney and the fried tofu flakes and spring onion are abundantly sprinkled on top.
Great. I go here every fornight or so, great Japanese food. Servings are generous and quality is great. Nigiri and grilled salmon my favourite and katsu is best I've had. Must try
Great suburban sushi. I'm a regular at this restaurant. I particularly like the dragon roll and the grilled salmon roll. They also do great tempuras, soft shell crabs and seaweed salad.
My Fave!. Dont let appearances decieve you - from the outrside its a little restaurant on the corner of a carwash yard - but inside its amazing! The service is always friendly and the food is fresh & delicious. I always have the chicked katsu (like a Jap Schnitzel) with the yummy chunky breadcrumbs - and have had some of the sushi & sampled what friends have ordered - everything is delicious
So look past the random location & step inside for some yummy authentic Japanese with great service
Cheap, plenty, and delicious. If you feel like hearty, delicious Japanese food without the excessive price tag, Tatsuya will not disappoint. The sushi and rolls are fresh and full of stuffings whether it be veggies or their decadent soft shell crab. Rainy and cold days always remind me of their udon and hot soba. I haven't tried their other hot foods because I always seem to have the udon/soba/roll combo but seems promising!
Tatsuya West Ryde has been a family favourite for many years. All the staff are very friendly and accommodating. This was only my second visit since the pandemic and I was pleasantly surprised that the quality of food and presentation seems to have gone to a higher level. Not that there has ever been an issue with quality. The Don Katsu was excellent as always. There are signs saying there is a 10% increase in menu prices because of higher supply prices, however this is more than compensated for with an extremely generous portion size.
Delicious food! Deserves the high rating, portions are generous and the staff are very friendly. Don't know why the mayonaise on the tempura prawn sushi is pink though... Otherwise can highly recommend this place for a local Japanese eat!
Quite impressed with the food here. Really enjoyed the grilled sushi set and tuna mayo roll and dragon roll, good portion sizes, reasonable prices. The katsu was a bit dry and sauce was too sour, wouldn't recommend it and instead stick to the sushi and rolls.

Between 2 people this was alot of food but we wanted to try a range of their food.
Definetly could have ordered 1 less dish and still been full.
Overall all the food was delicious.
Sashmi was really fresh and tender and melted in the mouth. Great presentation
Grilled sushi set was great. Good size pieces.
Takoyaki was tasty and enjoyable. Was served piping hot which made it even better.
Soft shell crab roll was nice. Good piece of crab inside.
Staff were friendly, we got really quick service as there was only 1 other table of diners.
They currently have an extra 10 percent charge in place which is ontop of the billed menu price. I find it understandable with inflation and increasing prices for ingredients. We saw this in a different review so we understood this extra cost before we went.
Overall for what we ordered it was a little expensive but we were happy with the quality. Will definetly be coming back.
Our go to japanese restaurant around where we live. It’s affordable, sashimi and sushi is fresh and great variety for everyone. Very busy over the weekend, try to book if you can, or come early.
We booked online and went during a weeknight. Service was amazing, the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The venue is quite small, very cosy and it has a nice busy vibe.
We had a sashimi deluxe platter, soft shell crab roll, salmon roll, vegetarian roll, baby avocado roll and mix tempura. They gave us complimentary miso soup which was great.
Everything was very tasty and beautiful presented. They don’t service alcohol so you can BYO. Corkage is $2.50, they will provide you with glasses.
Sushi was excellent, would highly recommend cooked tuna roll and tempura prawn. Cold soba was also good. Very good prices for the quality and portion sizes!
