I love this place and try to stop in each time I’m down in the peninsula. While the sushi is always fresh (the fish is sourced locally each day from David Prosser down the road), I especially enjoy the Malaysian dishes. Tony Sim, the owner/chef has been at the wok for decades, and this comes through in the taste of dishes like fried kwai teo, Singapore noodles and hokkien mee. I also really like the taste of his beef rendang - see my other reviews, this is a dish I seek out whenever I can.
King Sushi has the best food in Rye. A hidden secret is the selection of Malaysian dishes. Their mee goreng, beef rendang and curry laksa are better than what you get in Melbourne.
I always stop by King Sushi when I'm in town. The sushi is always fresh (they get fish delivered every morning, and source produce from local fish mongers - all the locals know 'Tony from King Sushi' or 'The King'). My favourite dishes are the noodles though - authentic Malaysian style cooking.
I recommend grabbing some takeaway and eating it on the pier across the road.
Really delicious fresh food... Lots of variety, good flavours, staff are nice, place is clean.... Best for takeaway, have become a regular!
Fantastic!. Excellent place! I'm a local and only checked out this place this year, but since I did, I have come back a few times. I find the lunch specials incredibly good value (recommend the Teriyaki chicken, also the hot bento boxes and home made dim sims are fantastic. Never had any issue, food is always outstanding and the place is clean and tidy. Service is very friendly and efficient.
By far the best sushi you will find on the peninsula. I've been to Japan many times and the sushi here is comparable to what you find in the little sushi bars at train stations over there. It takes me back to grabbing a quick roll on my way to exploring Tokyo.
My favourites are the salmon rolls and salmon sashimi. The fish was cut beautifully and tasted fresh and sweet. I chatted with the owner briefly, and he told me the fish is bought daily from the fish market.
I've tried some of the hot dishes too and particularly liked the noodles. I was down for the Christmas break and tried King Sushi then the place next door the next day. There wasn't really much of a comparison. The noodles at King Sushi seemed to have much better 'wok hay' - that delicious burnt flavour you get from authentically wok cooked food.
Got three takeaway serves of noodles and they were fresh, steaming got and unbelievably tasty. 5 stars.
Customer experience was excellent. The meal I had was very good! I have been to lots of sushi joints in my time and this little shop would fit into my top 5.
Definitely some of the best sushi I've had, and it's pretty cheap for how much you get. Would recommend.
