Review Brighton Hardware Cafe - Scarborough

Amanda Pintado
Another girlfriend catch up for a chat and we thought we’d try Hardware Cafe. Cool local meeting place amongst a group of gourmet shops. Very busy spot with a great bakery next door. There’s not always a lot of parking. I had a pot of tea and a Lemon drizzle slice while my friend went for her very complicated Chai and a poached egg on toast. Even though it doesn’t look like much the egg was perfectly cooked. The Chai was also very well made. My Lemon Drizzle just about blew my mouth off with sweetness. To much for me but if that’s your thing try it. It was very pretty to look at. There is a good menu and the place has a great atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and efficient.

Their breakfast just amazing..so is their coffee it is a great place. In addition I loved the decoration of the café it is a cosy place and very nice staff.
Matt Arnold
Great brunch spot with good coffees and déluré baked goods. Bibimbap was a great size and very delicious. The encased fried egg was an interesting twist. Four stars because the tacos were relatively unimaginative but all else was delicious.
Craig Wells
Great local cafe, meals are tasty and a good size. Coffee is great
Mhairi Finlayson
Great food and coffee with nice seasonal changes. Cute decor inside too 😊
Adam Scott
Haven’t had a bad coffee here and overshadows all the cafes on the beachfront. Recommend going here after a morning at the beach. Friendly staff and quick service!
Ben Kneale
Great coffee, delicious breakfast, and friendly staff. Is usually quite busy. Took off a star because the seating is a bit awkward and the floor moves as people walk past.
Alexander Rojas Moreno
Great atmosphere and breakfast options.
Chris Hodgson
Staff are too nice. Can't have a decent meal with all the helpful staff.

Queen Of Food
Good portion sizes however I thought the mushroom dish required a cheese of some sort to break it up a bit - perhaps a goats cheese or feta spread on the bread so it wasn’t dry. The crumbled nut mix on the top was nice but thought the fennel seeds overpowered it a bit too much. The avocado smash was nice flavoured and seasoned. Service - could be better, seems a lot of restaurants in Perth you literally have to serve yourself, order at the register and get your own glassware and cultery - seems a bit useless having waiters.

Great food and friendly staff, unfortunately the coffee isn’t very good and on a few different occasions had to be sent back.
Cake Face
Yum! We tried the rosti with fruit toast - different but delicious, and the big breakfast too. Coffee was lovely and great service
LJB
Went for breakfast today only to discover the menu nothing like what I’d read on internet. Definitely not as interesting. My eventual dish was just ok. Service and staff very friendly and efficient
S
Came here Monday for coffee and a bite to eat. We sat in the front lounge chairs under the heater, which was cosy. New owners. Friendly service. Coffee was nice. We shared the chicken tacos, which were fresh and tasty, but would have loved more chicken in them.
Ieat2much
Nice venue and decor...great staff and service...chai latte was made nice as I ordered a less spicy one...fresh juice was meh...my smashed avo with poached egg with bread was good...nothing special...the white egg omelette (big serving)was tasteless and too salty according to my partner...
Panpan
$16 for one toast n one poached egg and little smear of avocado is overpriced for sure the restaurant closes at 4:30 , but when I arrived at 2ish was told kitchen close at 14:30?. Beside the hardware decor, nothing was good about it, the food is over priced for a small amount .
PP
Extremely overpriced I was quite disappointed. Paid $15 for one crummy slice of toast with avocado and a sprinkle of pepitas! Left feeling complete hangry.
Gabby Puzey
Pretty bloody awful.<br/>Would rather have stayed home and cooked for myself, and I’m not that much of a whiz in the kitchen!<br/>Staff offer minimal effort and cannot be flagged down at all - could not get directions to the bathroom, not even after getting up and walking straight up to the waitress - still brushed past and was too busy?! Regardless of this apparent business, the place had 2-3 waitresses (as well as other counter staff, etc) and had no reason to be any busier than any other cafe, yet failed to offer even a substantially-sized meal. I mean, a 5x5cm piece of gluten free toast with some smudges of avocado is barely worth the price they put on it, and seriously, chilli flakes to season?! Who the heck willingly eats chilli for breakfast....

If you’re looking for somewhere for coffee in the Innaloo/Scarborough area, the Hardware Store is your best bet. They make a beautiful cup of coffee, and have lovely service to boot.

Great cafe. Coffee is fantastic and menu is great balance of new things to try and then classic breakfasts. Always get good food, coffee and service here at this lovely local !

Such a great place to have a really filling and substantial breakfast. Need to go back and try more of their breakfast and lunch options. Lovely coffee, juices and milkshakes as well.
Bronte O'Grady
Nothing special. Food is overpriced for the quality. Coffee is alright, staff nice. Only reason Id go back is for the convenience of location

Very popular even on a weekday. All day brekky (til 2.30) plus a lunch menu means there's plenty to choose from. Varied menu including gluten free options. Lovely coffee and juice. I had the Sambo which was delish but the wooden board it was served on was really hard to navigate with a deconstructed bacon and egg sandwich - bigger plate please! Order at the counter, self serve cutlery etc and meals delivered to the table. Staff pretty friendly and efficient, decor funky hardware theme, lots of seating options. Car park is a bit of a nightmare so be prepared to stalk or walk!
Salty
Very cool and unique place to come for breakfast or lunch. Very nice service and a friendly, clean environment. The coffee is very nice, the beans are roasted well. One tip is to ensure that you park at the rear of the cafe as the parking can be very packed and busy due to high demand for the cafe and bakery next door.

Crumbed herbed poached eggs with pickled enoki mushrooms is one of our fave dishes. Great coffee too. Prefer to go on a less busy day to ensure the eggs aren't overcooked

I remember eating brunch at THSC when I was pregnant at early stage. I forgot to ask for well cooked egg, so I asked them to cook it a bit more. They're very accomodating and happy to do it, good service! I went back today with friends and kiddos. We're happy with what we ordered. Beef Burger patty was juicy, tomato relish was yumm, brioche bun nicely toasted. Salad was so so. But all kids loved the vegs chips (as expected)! My friends Vegetable Fritters was great (she let me tried a bit). Very generous portion and plenty of sauces. I'll order this dish next time for sure. Mushroom & Tomato Bruschetta was good too, fragrant and tasty! Campos coffee was nice. 3 kids dining in = messy table & floor. I asked if I could borrow their sweeper so I can clean up a bit. Staffs said dont worry about the mess, they'll clean up after we leave. It's very nice of them. THSC is now one of my fav cafes to go.

This Saturday morning I had a fantastic experience at this cozy café.  I had the smashed avocado and my partner ate tortilla and  I would say it was absolutely yummy and well presented. it was one of the best breakfast I have had intimes! totally recommend it.
Thekittaysmeow
I can see what this place is trying to do.. and its a great effort re ambience and decor, unfortunately, the food did not quite hit the nail on the head. <br/>I had the chorizo board and it was not very chorizoey... the eggs, beans & tomato was far too acidic. My friend had the poached eggs and potato rosti. The rosti was quite nice tasting, but that was about it. Bit dissapointed as the reviews had me excited, but I suppose in life you have to try everything once!
SweetPoison
Wow!! This place is amazing!!! Gorgeous atmosphere, plenty of seating, friendly service, well priced, Massive portions, accomodating to menu changes etc!! Soo nice! Def recommend that egg white omelette- fluffy goodness!! I ordered a side of salmon which I def didn't need but was delicious!! Highly recommend!
More Than Nourishment
On a nice sunny weekday, this place was busy. The cafe is quite large so we could easily get a spot with a pram. Had the herb crumbed eggs after seeing the rave reviews about this dish which lived up to my expectations. It was delish! I would come back to have it again. Yum!

Got a burger and chips and it was horrible, my partner who eats anything and enjoys it didn't even like it, went up to order and the lady was so rude and when asking about the chips if we could pay extra to swap she snapped and said 'no!' Then when our food came out we got deep fried shavings of potato that looked like scrap food, who would eat that?? The lady and gentlemen that welcomed us in was nice though:)
Foodie In Paradise
Came here for brunch today for the first time, the cafe was quite busy but with a nice vibe. <br/>We ordered the herbed crumbed poached eggs and the quesadilla. The herbed crumbed poached eggs was absolutely delicious, a very well balanced dish. The quesadilla was nice too but not as tasty compared to the herbed poached eggs. Coffee was great at this cafe. <br/>Staffs are friendly and very prompt service.
Luke Pacecca
Amazing atmosphere, great friendly service and the egg white omelette was one of the most enjoyable breakky dishes I've ever had. Will be back.
Anna
I like this place because it's casual comfy and the service is great. The burgers are yummy n fresh with a nice bun. Will return as I like the row of shops as well.

Awesome cafe<br/>They have amazing coffee <br/>Food is amazing and great service<br/>Great ambience <br/>Awesome decor <br/>One of my favourites in Scarborough <br/>

My absolute favourite breakfast destination in all of Perth! It's my local as well which makes it even harder to stay away. My favourite is toast with a heap of sides like their beans and avocado and feta. Their coffee is consistently well made and never burnt which is amazing. My only complaint is that they've changed the hash browns! They use to serve amazing crisp little triangle hash browns but now it's more of a potato rosti and isn't nearly as delicious :( Still my absolute favourite though!
Rich
Called in for a quick breakfast on Friday. Great food.  What is truly worthy of the highest praise is the excellent coffee. I had been thinking that coffee culture was on the decline in Perth as so many cafe's are now serving "just another coffee". Here there is love of the art and attention to detailed poured into each and every cup - in future I will drive further and cross main roads to source my coffee here. Surely the Owner should independently list the Barista(ess) as an asset on this Businesses' Balance sheet.
Jane
Great food and presented well. Staff couldn't do enough but not over baring. Great relaxed vide.... Coffee 10/10 so yummy! Will be back and worth the drive from south of the river 👏
Rodney Waters
Good service staff pleasant not too friendly though. Tables bit close together . Serving were well presented and prices were bit on the high side. Decor is very cool<br/>

Been here a couple times. Always super packed which is promising. Food is decent and chai/juices werent bad either. Saw a cockroach on the floor in front of the counter and told the lady working behind. She seemed indifferent... irritated. It was not a good look. Even if I was the 800th person who pointed it out, perhaps it's swift removal would have been the best way to go- nobody wants bugs with breakfast
Renato
Bustling and warm on a Sunday morning, Hardware, as the locals call it, is a popular destination. The food looked good and the coffee was strong, but the wait staff were a bit snippy. I really want to try the French patisserie next door!!
For The Love Of Food
Their coffee is great. I had a soy latte and it was amazing. The ambience is nice, you are a little close to the people next to you, but it's not that small. It was easy to get a table on a Sunday morning, you go in and seat yourself. The staff are friendly, but you order at the counter and help yourself to cutlery and water so don't have much interaction. I was looking for an option without toast or egg for a change and settled on the porridge. For the price ($15) if was pretty standard compared to other places despite it's fancy description and had an extremely minimal amount of fruit on it. It was nice, but I expected a little more. Would definitely go back, there is ample parking around the back which might fill up as the patisserie next door looked extremely popular.

I love this place, one of my favorite breakfast spots. I've yet to try anything that isn't great. They're breakfast menu is unique and doesn't have the same old stuff that most Perth cafes have. Only thing I'm let down by is that they've taken the Toasted Tortilla off the menu! It was my partner and I's favorite dish :(
El
Very "hipster" looking cafe. It's very squashed inside - you feel like you might as well include the people next to you in your conversation. The service was a bit weird - it's hard to tell who the staff is and they give a bit of a stand-off-ish vibe.<br/>But the food came out very quick despite them being packed. And I found the Herbed Poached Eggs to be absolutely delicious. The combination of everything on the plate worked really well actually - it was a nice change to the usual breakfast meals.<br/>My dinning partner found their Smashed Avocado to be a bit overbearing due to a strong sour taste (too much lime?).
Emma Louise
Ive been and had the herb crumbed poached eggs.  Oh my lord they were incredible.  I am a massive eggs benedict fan and this is the favorite type of one i have tried.  If you go you should definately try this dish

I love this place! Really enjoy the Campos coffee served. Not to mention that its not far to go to with the perks of free car parking. The food is always fresh and picture perfect each time I come. Also another plus is that you can always bring your fur baby to enjoy a meal with you. And its a great place to go to if you have friends or family with kids as they offer free babychinos. Keep it coming with the good food and coffee Hardware store cafe!

I've been here a few times for coffee but have never found it very satisfying. The decor is kind of funky with a hardware theme (obviously!) but I can't say the seating is overly comfortable except for the lounge chairs by the front door.<br/><br/>During one visit the flies were horribly annoying and I always find that a major bug bear where ever there is food.<br/><br/>I do have a preference for water views so that probably affects my view of  this cafe.<br/><br/>Not a favourite of mine but I think that's down to personal preference more than anything wrong with the cafe
Missy_K
This little Eatery is cute & cosy... I loved the atmosphere ... <br/>The food was really delicious & portioned well... I got the PISTACHIO CRUMBED POACHED EGGS w/ a CRISPY POTATO ROSTI & PROSCIUTTO w: ENOKI MUSHROOMS & HOLLANDAISE ... I do have to say it was perfect! The Potato Rosti was extremely tasty , well seasoned & extremely crispy!! Without that over dry salty taste... The combination of Prosciutto and Poached Eggs & Hollandaise was just divine : not to salty or to buttery. I will go back again to try there other food!! Missy_K
Littlemisspiggyeats
I visited for the sole purpose of their coffee - Campos and I was not disappointed. A perfectly made soy cap to go. Visited midweek and was very busy, the meals coming out were looking great. Excellent customer service at the counter. Will be back for a meal. Oh on a side point their feature 'hanging plants' in the middle of the cafe are mostly dead. Not a good look ie attention to detail or lack thereof. Remove or replace.

Hello from Adelaide!! Those who follow me on instagram (@cscc28; the few who do! haha) will know I’m in Adelaide for a few weeks! What to do on a Sunday night when I’m bored of report-writing? Blog, of course =P. The Hardware Store and Eatery was on my go-to list for quite a while! While it’s not incredibly far, I don’t often have the time to head out for brunch/lunch so it was great to have a nice casual lunch with my parents and bro!
Lifelovetravelfood
Brunch catch up with family here was really nice. The cafe is a nice big space with lovely decor and while polite, staff were quite scarce. <br/>I had the chorizo platter which was delicious. I loved the tomato dish with poached egg and chorizo - I'd never had anything like that for breakfast so it was a refreshing change. Yummy salsa and guacamole on the side with crunchy tortilla chips - tasty but a touch oily. My only complaint was I got some eggshell in my dish which is never pleasant! <br/><br/>The rest of our group really enjoyed their meals too - everything was fresh, vibrant and nice big servings. <br/><br/>Excellent coffee and extra brownie points for free babycinos! Our little diner was stoked! I thought this was a really nice touch.<br/><br/>Lovely spot, I really enjoyed it here.

Busy place with a high turn over and great service. Breakfast for 4 the meals came out lightning fast! Herb crumbed Eggs with a potato rosti, pickled enoki mushrooms and prosciutto was tasty and well cooked, the tool box was a big serve for a hungry bloke and smashed avo on toast - everyone was more than satisfied- large portions and worth a visit<br/>
Cornflakegirl
If your going to do concept cafe then you need to go all out and it can look tacky. This place pulls it off. The exposed brick the wood slat Tables, the toolboxes to get the cutlery out of. Everything is clean and it works!!! I went simple today just eggs your way with a side of bacon and hash browns. Portion size was good and hash browns were delicious. Definitely cool and hip vibe over tacky. Well executed
Nick
Went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning at 11:00am as the cool kids do! It was my second visit to the hardware store for breakfast, loved it the first time around - I think the novelty's worn off though.<br/><br/>What we had: a 'dream' juice; an orange and watermelon juice; a long mac; toast with bacon, avocado and mushrooms; and poached eggs on rye with bacon, hash browns, beans and hollandaise.<br/><br/>Likes: decor (especially the lights), the coffee, poached eggs, the bacon.<br/><br/>Dislikes: the beans were so sweet I think I got diabetes, self service/order at the counter set up (also get your own cutlery, salt and pepper, and napkins - seems lazy), the price given the 'self-serve' arrangement, the juices - not fresh squeezed as you'd expect paying $7+. Also asked for a watermelon, orange and apple juice and was advised that the juices were 'pre-mixed' - should've backed out then.<br/><br/>Pro-tip: be careful of the salt shakers, comes out faster than Bruce Jenner on a channel E special.<br/><br/><br/>
Kayla Widdowson
Have been here for breakfast 3 times now and it's one of my favourites! The egg white omelette is as big as a dinner plate and super fluffy! I didn't know egg whites could taste so good. Smashed avo was delicious although the gluten free bread was so thick it was hard to cut through. And one of the only places I've found that does almond milk coffee! Definitely recommend for breakfast/brunch and looking forward to trying out the lunch menu.
Some Like It Hot
Nice venue, got here around 9 which is a good thing because it's really popular. Had poached eggs with a side of mushrooms and hash browns. Happy to have as my local cafe :)
Claire
I'd been looking forward to trying the Hardware Store for a long time and I was very disappointed. I ordered the pancakes, which were 4 very small pancakes. They were tough, rubbery and dry. I asked the waitress if they had been made fresh and she told me they make all the pancakes first thing in the morning and they re-heat them! For $21, I was not impressed. They refunded my money, but I won't be heading back there in a hurry.

Admittedly go here fairly often because it's dead set my favourite coffee! Don't even get me started on its goodness. Being a local makes it the ideal place to go grab a feed. The food is everything you want from a cafe, cannot complain at all. The service... Most of them are lovely. But there is a lady that usually does our coffees that just looks so miserable all the time. Trust if the coffee wasn't great I would be complaining a lot more. We still joke every time we go in there whether or not she will crack a smile. Still waiting.

Been meaning to check this place out for a while now, was pleasantly surprised. The layout/decor was aesthetically pleasing. The space was bigger than I had imagined. The coffee was great. Breakfast menu was quite small and limited. Will be returning.
Perth Burger Boy
Pulled pork. If ever I was to have a kryptonite of my own, it would be pulled pork. Not everyone does it well though, and just because the menu says that it has been slow cooked overnight, doesn’t mean that it won’t come out on the dry side either. This was far from the case at The Hardware Store Cafe, where their pulled pork sandwich was a delicious, moist treat for the mouth. Often, when you return to a restaurant that you’ve had something good at you will make an effort to try something different on the second visit. But I honestly don’t think I will have nearly enough willpower or even the desire to deny myself this delicious burger next time around.

What a great place for breakfast. ......Hardware Store Cafe ? Not Masters, Stratco or Bunnings. Yes is a cafe with Hardware decor. The cafe is full of character and charm, with delicious breakfast and amazing coffee. Highly recommended.
Wags Out West
I must have driven past the Hardware Store Cafe every week for the past year and (until recently) not ventured inside. This week my dad was with me and as he can’t go half an hour without a cup of tea we stopped in. It was the quiet midweek period around 3pm so we were able to snag one of the prime parking spots right outside.
LOVE PERTH/AUCKLAND FOOD
I've had awesome food here and I've had average food and felt severely ripped off here!<br/>The coffee is ok, usually quite bitter/burnt. The service is ok, sometimes fine sometimes just average.<br/><br/>Green balanced bowl is delish- fresh and tasty!<br/>Egg white omlette- is awesome!!! Fluffy and huge- I always get a side of Avo also.<br/><br/>Its the Avocado and Tomato Bruchetta I had the issue with....<br/>It was literally one piece of Ciabatta that was hardly toasted, a chunk of avocado, chopped up cherry tomatoes, 3 tiny strips of marinated capsicum out of a jar, 1 basil leaf and then saved shaved parmesan chucked on top as an afterthought which wasn't really shaved... just a couple of big dry chunks... some splattered olive oil. Yes the ingredients were there but it was just... well.... it was shit!<br/>Absolutely no love or thought, it wasn't a dish- just chopped up stuff on a plate. I felt ripped off! Especially because I was super broke that day and using my last $22 to treat myself haha!<br/><br/>Other then that, its a fairly decent local. The bacon and egg takeaway wrap is yum and good value on a Sunday hung day. <br/>Dont bother trying to get a table for breaky on weekend though- absolute pandemonium and sometimes a line! With 3 wheeled prams and Mums sporting the latest zig zag leopard print Lou Lou Lemon gym gear included.... get my drift.
Jesse Phillips
Poor execution of basic dishes including size of dishes and choice of sides such as undercooked bacon and average gluten-free bread. <br/>Staff do a good job in a crowded feeling space with hardware paraphernalia on the walls. Tables for two are small and too tall for the chair height...(obviously being critical now, based on a poor meal).
Teebo
I have been driving past the Hardware Store since it opened near on a year ago and alway's planned on checking it out for a feed. The breakfast crowd frequent the place every weekend and it's always packed to the rafters! We decided to check out the lunch menu on a Monday and there were still a fair amount of diner's on a quiet day, which is always a good sign. The vibe is modern yet rustic that would make you're dad happy, yet not scare off you're mum. The service is relaxed and friendly with an "order at the counter" and help yourself to cutlery etc. setup. The menu is well rounded. We decided on the Hardware Club sambo, and the pulled pork sambo. We also ordered a side of fries and aioli... because we are fatties haha. Both sambos came with a slaw and root vegetable chips. The pulled pork was juicy and benefited from the added pickle. The club was tasty and the creamy dill dressing was spot on. The side slaw was lacking something, could take it or leave it. Chips were good and the coffee also. I don't think we will wait as long to revisit the Hardware store. It's a solid local 👍
Bustola
Cute cafe in a good spot for locals of the area. I had zucchini fritters and my dad had pulled pork and both were pretty tasty. It didn't blow me away but I'd like to try more off the menu another day. Has potential!
Hungryhenry
Weekday brunch and was busy. Only a few minutes or the table before the line got big. Lobster Eggs Benedict was generous with oozy eggs and a good sauce. The pork belly I tried a piece of had good crackle but the meat flavour was not to my liking.
NRB
Beautiful food. However I still Don't get having to gather my own knife and fork and a water for myself. The coffee was also nice but a bit cool for my liking.
I. D.
Went here just for a coffee. Cafe looks nice. The coffee is pretty expensive (compared to Melbourne). Coffees were good. No latte art. Food looked good, but as said we didn't get anything.
PerthfectBreakfast
No table service here and you help yourself to the cutlery, water, napkins etc etc<br/><br/>Ordered the herb crumbed poached eggs with proscuitto on potato rostis, pickled enoki mushrooms, hollandaise and rocket. <br/><br/>The only thing I liked on the dish was the potato rostii which were crispy.<br/>Didn't like the tangy hollandaise with even tangier pickled mushies.<br/>My egg yolk was like, medium/well. <br/>Also, I hate rocket but that's not their fault.<br/>Bit stingy with the ice cream in my iced coffee<br/><br/>overall, meh.
Lyv To Eat
There's just something about waking up on a Saturday morning and knowing you're going to be in great company while checking out a hip cafe! Well, that was the amazing feeling I had on this particular Saturday morning. Due to our busy schedules, we had to plan this brunch three weeks in advance, but it was certainly worth the wait.
Emily
This place is busy! my friend had to wait to get a table and then wait again to order at the cashier. One thing I don't like about some of these new breaky places-the whole LACK of service. The whole time my friend and I were there (Sunday morning), we did not communicate with a single soul who worked there. I don't like it! please new places say hello, a how are you and a smile, plus please take our order at the table! Anyways, on from my rant, I ordered the herbed poached eggs and they were yum! plus the coffee had a nice flavour. My friends meal was nice and fresh -avocado bruschetta.I will come again! perhaps when it is less busyx
Morsels
The Hardware Store Cafe and Eatery has been on my list of places to visit for some time, and I recently heard good things from some friends so decided to head there for the first breakfast of the recent WA long weekend. The cafe is open from 6:30am daily, and we arrived just after 7:30am. Seeing the huge queue that extended outside the small patisserie next door we expected the cafe to be full, but it wasn’t.
Dotty Queen
I've seen this place on Zomato for a while, when I am on Instagram I keep seeing people posting pictures of the food at this restaurant. After my gym workout in the morning, I drove straight to this place. As I am not familiar with Scarborough, I used google maps to get me around the area. I found it easily with google maps.
Kayti King
Love the fit out. Went on a week day so wasn't as busy as it is on the weekends! Delicious food and great coffee..but $30 is a bit much for breakfast and a coffee in my eyes...
Vivifoodiediva
This is one of my favorite breakfast spots given that it's close to home. Love the coffee, cold pressed juices and especially the herb crumbed poached eggs with the hollandaise served on the side. <br/><br/>The pickled enoki mushrooms combined with the rocket and prosciutto tastes sooooo good. The rosti is a bit hit and miss - sometimes crunchy "pikelet" but more often soggy "pancake". <br/><br/>The bruschettas are yummy although I'm partial to the mushroom version. When you're super hungry, the toolbox is a good feed.
Rickie
This place is super cute but gets super super busy, the floor staff give out a bit of a frenetic vibe in response. All DIY ie order at the counter, get your own cutlery and water, although food is bought to you. Porridge with stewed pear at $19 was extremely expensive for a pretty small serving, pretty tasty but nothing beyond what you could whip up at home. Big breakfast $24 and massive, ok - bacon a bit overlooked. <br/>
FatCat
The Hardware Store Cafe offered a welcome respite from a windy and rainy day - it's rustic interior (exposed brick walls, old tools on the wall) is comfortable and there was barely an empty table at lunchtime. It's not an extensive menu but there's enough variety to make it interesting - burgers, salads, fritters. We shared a very generous pulled pork sandwich and a bowl of perfectly crispy chips - it was more than enough to satisfy us both.  Service was very friendly and cheerful. I'd like to come back for a more leisurely breakfast.
Annette Evans
After driving past the Hardware Store Cafe many times and not venturing in because it was so damn crowded, I finally made it this week for a late lunch. The place looked much more civilized at 2.30pm when the brunch/lunch madness was over.<br/><br/>There's a small but decent menu, as well as a number of options in the display cabinet. I ordered the Bun Haters Veggie Burger, which is essentially a large mildly spiced chickpea, lentil and mushroom patty with masses of rocket and a drizzling of balsamic.  This works a treat when you fancy something healthy that doesn't involve bread, although I did think $19 was a bit rich for what you get. That's Perth in 2015 though isn't it?  Everything seems to sit at the higher end of the price scale.<br/><br/>My long mac was decent, and there was a range of juices and smoothies that sounded amazing. Again though, at $10 for a smoothie, it's not exactly a free lunch. Or a cheap one.<br/><br/>I love the decor at the Hardware - exposed brick and walls full of various tools and implements. It's makes it a little bit quirky and fun.  i'd definitely return, but again I'd do so later in the afternoon when the crowd has thinned out and I can sit and read a magazine in peace and quiet. Staff were pleasant and friendly, even at 4pm when they were sweeping and getting ready to close. I never felt rushed.
Ilovepancakes
Decent place. Gets SUPER busy here. Good selection of foods. Really pricey for what you get though. Nice for breakfast but definitely not one of my favourites
Izzy Alyce
Went here for breakfast and was very happy, great coffee and a delicious big breakfast. Cute cafe with a lovely atmosphere and theme. My boyfriend and I were both very happy and will definitely come back
Magic Orange
Very busy cafe when I have visited on three occasions in the weekend . Delicious fresh ingredients used for their interesting menu yet without forgetting the basics . Atmosphere feels good and staff are friendly.<br/><br/>Downside : small coffees (but still made to perfection). Very busy . <br/><br/>Upside: All of their food served. Toasted Tortilla was a splendid alternative breakfast. <br/><br/>

Loved it! Staff were very friendly and we didn't have to wait for our food, which was delicious. Also loved the decor. Definitely coming back 👌🏽
Breakfast Fanatic
Really enjoyed this breakfast venue with their exceptionally friendly staff, really great menu and hipster vibe to it! Food was really great, came out straight away and huge portions! Only critic would be a little bit bigger coffees for the price, but other than that exceptional!

Love it! Cute place, fun got out, exciting menu, food was delicious and the coffee is great. Caught up with a friend for lunch, she suggested this place. Lots of healthy options balanced with just delicious things for those not so 'fitspo' inclined. Snappy service and a good vibe.

One of my favorite local cafes in Scarborough. Prices look as if it has gone up but that's Perth. Got the Parmesan Herb Crusted Chicken which was a decent size for lunch, nice flavor and the salad on top of the chicken works well. My friend got the Zucchini and sweet corn fritters which she enjoyed. The only down side is our side of chips were cold and slightly soggy. My cappuccino was made well. Good service. Will be back again.

Decor: funky old hardware with lots of metal tools and exposed brick. Atmosphere: was morning tea so middle aged women meeting up, couple of young men having coffee (don't they have jobs?) Cake: Honeycomb Chocolate. Wished I didn't. This was a try too far for me. I like rich. I like chocolate. OTT. (Still ate it though!) Coffee: ok. Good for a change. I think the locals like it!

Service is quite bad here. Maybe the place was crowded but still the service staff looks like they rather be somewhere else. Looked annoyed when we arrived, like we were another chore on her list. Food was not bad but very expensive. Overall, very put off by the rude service.

First time at the Hardware Store Cafe. I must say it was a refreshing change. <br/>We arrived at around 11am on a Sunday to a busy and bustling cafe. The manager or front of house greeted us with no hesitation and politely told us that they were busy but that we were more than welcome of put our name on the list. The fact that he was upfront about the waiting time and that he understood that we would have to wait for around 30 minutes really showed great customer service. Give that man a pay rise haha.<br/><br/>While waiting for a table we got coffee which were reasonably priced and used Campos beans which we're particularly found of. Once seated and ordered the food came out in around 10-15minutes. The menu is really different and has a lot to choose from. We were relatively satisfied with the meal.<br/><br/>If you do go to the Hardware store cafe do try one of their fresh juices and smoothies. :) I think its well worth the wait!

I absolutely loved The Hardware Store’s zucchini & sweet corn fritters…I still crave the corn fritters from Taste & Graze in Mandurah so I’m pretty excited to have found a closer way to satisfy my fritter cravings.

Really disappointed in my visit here. Ordered the fruit salad and the fruit was cut awfully. Strawberries still had the tops on them and then the staff started clearing the table and moving us on before we had even finished. Most dishes are over the $20 mark so slightly overpriced for an average Perth breakfast. Went back a second time and had a similar experience.

Amazing brekkie here this Sunday morning. It was packed to the brim but the friendly sraff advised of the wait and kept us informed. We had a takeway coffee and before we knew it we were seated. Generous portions and gorgeous runny poached eggs. We had the nushroom bruchetta and added bacon and poached eggs and the herb crusted eggs. Highly recommed brekkie here!

Loved it! Amazing waiter. My boyfriend and i both got tool boxes, surprisingly my boyfriend was allowed to swap his serving of tomatoes for three hashbrowns. Came out super quick, the waiter (tall man) was really nice, attentive and friendly. The scrambled eggs were superb and we loved the mushrooms. The bread was nice but a little bit tough.<br/><br/>The only downside was the meal was a bit salty and i personally didnt like the sausages, but my boyfriend didnt mind his. <br/><br/>Amazing portion sizes, neither of us finished and were extremely satisfied.<br/><br/>Will be returning and recommending it to our friends.

Not too impressed. Coffee was very disappointing. Long Black was luke warm and Mac was topped up even though I asked for traditional. Breakfast was served cold with unfriendly staff. Have tried the cafe before and our chai lattes tasted like warm milk. Although the decor is really fun. I won't be going back here.

This is going to be a negative review, of what was a mostly great breakfast. Can't fault the food here. Really lovely dishes, well presented and a little bit different. The wait staff seemed friendly and happy, but you can tell they are under the pump. <br/><br/>The service at the till, unfortunately, does not match the high standard of the food. The blond girl, whom I assume is the manager, took my order without so much as a please or a thank you. <br/><br/>My side of beans didn't come out with my breakfast, so after eating I went back to the til to let them know, and hopefully get my $4 back. I told a different girl, who told the girl who had taken my order. She shook her head at me, gave me a horrible look and tossed the money (not the correct amount, only $3) back into my hand. <br/><br/>It wouldn't have been hard for her to have apologised, and offered me the $4 back in a polite manner. This might seem pathetic, but things like this can leave a bad lasting impression. If you can't be polite, then get out of the hospitality industry. I hope the owners of this great little cafe read this and put someone with some manners behind their till!

What a terrific place to have breakfast.. What a gem of a place. The décor is funky and interesting, the atmosphere relaxed and casual and the service prompt and friendly. The breakfast menu is quite extensive and value for money. We will be coming back here again.....maybe to try out the lunch menu next time. The café serves great coffee......

Fantastic. Great coffee and service!

Have had a few takeaway coffees from here and they are always a little disappointing. Too hot, burnt and surprisingly poor for a place using Campos Beans

Unqualified Executive Chef. Very disappointed with this place because I heard that the old lady who drives the kitchen was very tired and close to retire herself. Many really good workers left this spot just because her unprofessional behaviour. Pretty sure the kitchen service dropped down since the good workers started to realise that someone without skills and knowledge cannot be a leader on this kind of serious business. Bad behaviour, bad food! I've been use this spot as a main house to take my daily coffee ( The best coffee around Scarborough/Double View ) but I stopped to order food just coz is clear that the food quality starts to drop down. We can see this here on costumers reviews. The owners should look after their external costumers with more care. I don't know if I'll recommend this cafe to my friends.

Uncooked pancakes. It was a busy Sunday...we were told our foods required a 45min wait but they did cone afteR 25min. The pancakes were plated nicely but what i noticed was all 4 pieces of the pancakes collapsed in the middle. they formed a ring like pancakes. ..the middle was sticky with lumpy with pancakes batter. I reckon it was very shameful to serve such pancakes to customers and charged for $21. Definitely not coming back

Mouldy bread. Had breakfast with a friend today. Ordered bruschetta - could've done with a hacksaw to cut it. Struggled through until about half way I noticed a spot of mould on the bread. Pointed it out to the waitress who acknowledged it was mould and took it back to the kitchen. Waitress returned to inform us that it wasn't mould but they just happen to have a blue/green (mould) coloured pen on the pass which must have touched the bread before it came to the table. Wow, really - imagine that - what an unfortunate coincidence! A more cynical person might think it was complete and utter BS. Anyhow no apology nothing - won't be going back.

Great food, not so great service. The food was tasty, my mate had the herb crusted poached eggs and I had the mushroom bruschetta and we were both happy and quite satisfied with the portion and the flavour. However we we're put off as the wait staff really were not hospitable at all. When we arrived, the staff pretty much ignored us and walked around us, no one acknowledged or assisted us, we had no idea what the go was in getting a table in this place! And the guy who brought us our food just dumped it and was about to walk off when I asked about cutlery to which he just pointed to a table behind me and walked away. A shame as the cafe itself is cool and the food was yum, just not the friendliest experience. Don't know if I'd go back.

Open for dinner. A true gem executing what all eateries should aspire to be , no gimmick no fuss , just on point well prepared perfect meals , effortless welcoming service . Tracking towards the next best local . <br/>Lamb and fish of the day hit every mark . <br/>Industrial sheek at its best , truly impressed ,

What I will say, the place is fairly popular with the locals, so you may end up having to squeeze in and take any available seat but even at its busiest the customer service is standout and your food is always delivered in a timely fashion.
Everyday Weekends (Yoshika)
A few weeks ago we went out for lunch at The Hardware Store in Scarborough. For drinks we ordered a chai smoothie, a tropical smoothie and a green juice. They were all refreshing and delicious. The menu at The Hardware Store is quite extensive, however, besides from the fridge selections they only had two meat-free choices from the lunch menu. Although the choices for us were limiting, the vegetarian dishes they offered were delicious.  One of the dishes was the 'Bun Haters Veggie Burger' which was a yummy chickpea, lentil and mushroom patty with mixed greens, tomatoes, alfalfa sprouts, curry mayo and beetroot relish. The serving was huge which I was thankful for. All the flavours mixed so well together, the heartiness of the patty, the freshness and bite of the greens and beetroot relish, so, so good. The curry mayo was superb as well, and this is coming from a person who normally hates mayo (I think the curry flavour masked the mayo!!). I would definitely have this again. The price tag attached to this dish isn't too bad either! The other dish was the Summer Salad, which was a wonderful mix of mixed greens, asparagus, orange, pomegranate, blueberries, avocado, cherry tomatoes, shaved fennel, marinated feta and flaked almonds. I really love it when the humble salad is pimped up which is exactly what The Hardware Store did. The flavour combinations just worked so well together, there was a little bit of everything, sweet, tangy, salty, sour, creamy, the right amount of acidity, crunch and softness. The huge chunks of feta were delightfully creamy and salty, and who doesn't love pomegranate in a salad? They're like tiny pink jewels that burst with sweetness. I'm so glad we found The Hardware Store, they're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it's always nice to eat out at a cafe or restaurant that's not all the way in the city. All the other cafes around Scarborough have become boring or too expensive which is unfortunate, but not The Hardware Store. The interi

Great food/coffee - Crap Service. Like a lot of other people that have reviewed this place the food and coffee was great, fresh ingredients and great creativity. The service here however is terrible, the short little blond girl that seems to be the manager has one hell of an attitude and could do herself and the business a favor by cracking a smile. We simply asked very politely if my partners coffee was on its way as our food and my juice had arrived to an answer from a face that looked like it had been sucking lemons all morning "did you order one?". Continuing to be polite as i just presumed (before reading all the other reviews here) she was having a bad morning i answered yes with a smile she turns on the heel and goes to the barista without so much as a apology, smile or a "not a problem, will chase it up for you". <br/><br/>Owners should do themselves a favor and read some of these reviews as slowly people are going to start dining elsewhere, even if the food is spot on!

Worst steak sandwich!. I went today for lunch and ordered the Steak Sambo - and upon delivery it was raw. I pointed it out and asked them to cook it a bit more - it came back a few minutes later, still much too rare for my taste (I wasn't asked how I liked my steak done) and when I bit into it got a mouthful of fat and the steak was as tough as old boots. I took it back told them it was awful and was asked if I wanted a pork sandwich - I was a bit over eating by that stage and declined. My friend finished her lunch and the waitress gave me back the money I paid for my sandwich - the attitude I got was that she was doing me a favour. I live close by and will not come here again, I had a breakfast here a while back which was okay but nothing special. As an aside, my friend enjoyed her meal...
