Review Thai Palace Restaurant - Scarborough

Lots options of $10 beer on tap with such awesome view, would love to have some small bites with drinks which will be wonderful 🍻🍻🍺

They say that it was Thai food but the reality is that was not quality is so bad. The customer service is so bad… they are are too rude.

Great view, very lovely staff, food is average but fresh enough. Entrance from around the side and upstairs- they could benefit from a sign out the front that lets people know where to go! It is a Cambodian and Thai restaurant: the menu is pretty standard with your typical green and red curries, basil and peanut dishes. It reads like a food court menu. I think they need to elaborate on the menu and add some more authentic and dishes which reflect the season. For examples Thai salads in summer and laksas in winter.

Had a party of around 55 people here yesterday (Feb 2019) we pre-arranged with the lovely staff. It went perfectly and the food was sooooo delicious! We only had a small window of time and they delivered brilliantly. We were so grateful for the service and effort. For incredible tasting (and filling) Thai, and a stunning view, check them out. Thanks guys

Great view. Had my wedding reception here. Required up front payment then only Delivered 40% of the promised food on the day. Most guests went without food. Demanded we leave building so as not to interrupt any further potential customers. Food was OK. Mercenary attitude.

Normally really good but tonight food came out very quickly. Tofu must have been chucked in at the last minute so was cold and the rice was undercooked and also cold. Sauce was tasty.

Now a bar rather than a restaurant, totally ignored when we arrived. Order at bar (even had to ask for that). Good views OK for a drink and watch the sunset but not for dinner. Cheap Thai food. Downmarket atmosphere.

VERY DECENT AND WELL PRICED I would give 3.5 stars but that isn't an option. For both takeaway and dine-in this place is a decent choice considering the price-quality. Don't expect the highest quality because that is not the business they ar in. Food is good, for groups and they are very flexible! IN CASE YOU ARE A BIT LATE, THEY WILL STILL SERVE YOU! I became a loyal customer due to the good service, and the fact that they are very flexible.

My family and I went into dinner here with low expectations given the mixed reviews. However, we were all pleasantly surprised. The food was definitely overpriced (you are paying for the location/view) but all of our dishes were still tasty enough. Not the best Thai I've had, but certainly not the worst. I don't feel it's deserving of so many poor reviews. Good enough!

Best thai in perth with amazing views. Always enjoy the food here whether it be dine in or takeaway. Always quick fast service and a very roomy restaurant.

Free bottle of wine - what???<br/>We ordered takeaway from here which totalled about $100 and were plesantly surprided to receive a free bottle of very drinkable bottle of red!<br/>The food was ok not the best not the worst - I would definately go back again!

I love this restaurant so much! It has such good service and the food was delicious!! This restaurant is definitely a good place to go. There are lots of vegan and vegetarian options which is amazing.

Truely sub par quality. The beef dishes were incredibly tough. Obviously cheap cuts of meat. Lamb tasted a little off. Thank god the pungent, salty sauce masks the aging flavour of the meat. The tough, rubbery squid in the garlic pepper was definitely off, you could tell from the moment they place it in front of you. This was the worst part of the meal. The duck in the amok was passable. Like the kind of passable you expect from the take out you had during your collage days. <br/>But hey. The steamed rice was good. Yay. <br/>Friday night with only 3 covers. Its obvious. Listen to your soul. Because for sure it will tell you to turn away.<br/>However. I will commend the service. Wonderful, attentive and incredibly kind. That was a nice touch. <br/>

AVOID! - the views not worth it. <br/>Should of known by the number of people dining on a Saturday night to give this place a miss. <br/>Not authentic Thai at all and the prices are criminal. Mongolian chicken smelt like urea and the green curry came out 3 minutes after ordering which is a big red flag unless you like precooked frozen meals. Curry puffs and spring rolls were alright seeing as they are they same as the store bought ones I get from the oriental supermarket.

Food was delicious! We were attended to really quickly and the waiters were pleasant and helpful. My only complaint is that the food is a little salty and could be served warmer. Overall great place for a Sunday night dinner!

In short, fantastic views, average food at an expensive price. <br/><br/>There is standardized pricing and each main dish is at least $20.80 and that includes the fried rice. $20.80 for fried rice, they must be joking! <br/><br/>Is it worth it? There are other options available in Scarborough now, but if you want to dine in an empty restaurant and have an $80 meal for two, then this is the place for you. <br/><br/>Habooken

Had a few pretty good Thai red and green curries from here. Really delicious and good portion sizes. However I don't think they're filling using their amazing location to the full potential, there's nothing about the restaurant that catches your eye and draws you in.

Service last night was a joke. Pad Thai served without lime or peanuts, asked for some then eventually arrived 30min later after finishing meal. Waiter telling us that 'all food is frozen apart from chicken', waitress doesn't know what she's serving 'umm chicken I think?'<br/>Complained to manager, seemed as though they didn't really care. Staff that doesn't speak/understand English.<br/>I've been to this place several times and was always OK but it has gone down hill in a big way.<br/>Certainly not going back <br/>(Scarborough) <br/><br/>

This was really disappointing the food was overpriced and quoting my husband the worst Laksa he had ever eaten. I had the Massaman and it was filled with undercooked cauliflower and brocolli rather than the potato its usually known for. We really should have gone with out guts and not eaten at an empty restaurant. Everywhere else is packed-this place had a hand full of people.

This was the worst Thai food I've ever had.. If you like lots of sugar & rubbery meat in your dishes then you'll like this place. Otherwise don't waste your money.
Lloyd
Food was ok, servings were small, rice for two is only enough for one. $72 for two mains dishes, no drinks and no entree is surely a recipe for business disaster. This place used to be really good.

We went online to look up the menu and place a take away order. The website clearly states the pad Thai prawn is $16.80. When we arrived to pick up our meals the cost was $21.80. Questioned the price difference with the manager and I was told I must have looked at the wrong website. There was no apology and we were forced to pay the higher price. Absolute joke. Will not be back here again. The food was also well below par. Don't bother going here.
Nick Carraro
These guys should think about updating their website/s and menu photos. $22 for a vegetarian pad thai? We certainly got a shock. Good view while the sun is up, but poor atmosphere with no background music. Won't be back.

Got take away tonight & I can honestly say it is by far the worst Thai food we've had. Salty, fatty, chewy food that has no business being on a plate. Disappointed & no idea how they have 74% like! Stay away, it's awful!

Don't judge a book by its cover. We walked in there yesterday and by the look of the place turned around and went elsewhere. Today we thought we'd give it a go despite the decor and wow, weren't we impressed! We had the fish cakes and potato wrapped prawns and the chefs special amok with fish, sticky rice and pad Thai. All was delicious, first place in all of wa that actually made quality fish cakes and the amok was to die for. Service was friendly, food was quick, and the prices were extremely reasonable. Definitely worth a second chance!
HungryChef
Awesome Pad Thai. Took my daughter here for an early feed as she was hungry before the rest of us wanted to eat. Just ordered some spring rolls and a Pad Thai, which was spectacular. Honestly the best Pad Thai I have had outside Thailand.
Neil.martin
I did not go, but reading the reviews I stayed clear.. I was going to go but looking at the reviews I will not???<br/><br/>Maybe the owners should read them and make some comments???
Venujothi85
Worst place for eat. The service is very bad, staff not professional and the food taste worst.

Total Train Wreck - Stay Away. We just went with a family get together of 10 tonight. Sun set was nice, but that's the only good thing I can say. I'm 46, lived in Bangkok for 5 years, have eaten out all over the world and hand on heart that was THE WORST tasting excuse for a restaurant I have ever experienced in my life. Extremely salty, meat chewy and all dishes "tasted" the same.<br/><br/>To top it off the service was like something from Fawlty towers - after half the dishes did not arrive and we had to grab our own place setting from another table, despite repeated requests to the waiter, I asked if we were maybe on some kind of candid camera ?!?<br/><br/>$350 worse off (I think $35 would have been overpriced) and terrible indigestion coming on (I think I'll go and force myself to throw up after writing this) absolutely recommend 100% to STAY AWAY from this sad excuse. Should have known with the place pretty empty given such a great location.<br/><br/>PS: I'm not a particularly fussy guy and this is the first review of a Restaurant I've ever bothered with...

Valentines tragedy. Booked a week in advance as is appropriate for valentines. On arriving whole place booked out, our booking missing. The waiters seating us palmed us off to some young girl who lead us in circles while she tried to find us a place to sit. Sat us at some other reserved table. We waited about 20minutes while the whole 4 staff ran (literally) around trying to sort everone out. The kitchen staff were running rood because the bell to let the servers know the food was ready kept ringing. These people were not in uniform and looked unproffesional.<br/>We walked out. Too hard basket.<br/>Sort yourselves! Obviously it will be busy on Valentines. Prepare better.

Very bad & slow service! Unfortunately I can not review the food cause we didn't get it!! We waited over 2 hours for our food and it still didn't come out! We paid for our drinks and left the restaurant....

A pleasant Surprise. It was with some trepidation that we booked this restaurant because of the negative reviews here, but we desired to watch the New Year Eve Indian Ocean sunset from the balcony, That experience alone was worth the visit as the balcony has excellent coastal views to Rottnest Island and is protected from the howling Scarborough southerly winds.........And the food? It was first class. The Spring Rolls and Golden Bags were fried to perfection with crisp yet fragile pastry that made them a delight to eat. Our mains were a Goat curry made with genuine young and tender goat and the red Massaman Beef curry melted in the mouth, unlike the usual asian beef that makes ones' jaw ache.<br/>It is possible that this restaurant has new owners or staff as the menu has slipped South over the border from Thailand to Cambodia. The staff themselves were politely attentive without being in your face and "Mama San" ran regular sorties from the kitchen to the tables keeping a very sharp eye on everything.Highly recommended.

Give this place a miss. The worst thai food I have EVER had. I have thai all over the world and loved it ever time, this place however is atrocious and does not deserve to stay open - a bit harsh, but if you are thinking of going, DON'T

Lesley. Ate here for 3rd time and thought it was a good restaurant and had recommended to friends. Brought family for dinner birthday last night. <br/>Very disappointed. Curry puffs the worst ever like powder and all dishes soaked in sauce. Salty and sweet and not good. For $168 for 5 it was a disappointing ripoff. Will not return unless they change chef!!!
Food Snob
Well below what is considered average!. Thought we'd try this Thai as our regular, Sue's Thai, was closed and it will not be a mistake we make again. We ordered the Curry Puffs, Chicken Penang Curry and Prawn Pad Thai.<br/><br/>The curry puffs were ok, nothing special but were fine. The Chicken Penang curry was like chicken and bok choy in a mix of coconut milk and water with the sauce being thinner than water, if that was possible. The Pad Thai had 5 prawns in it, which is fine, but it was a clump of burnt thin rice noodles all stuck together. No spring onion, peanuts or egg or tofu. Just burnt, clumpy noodles and 5 prawns. Im not Thai but that is definitely not Pad Thai.<br/><br/>I called to let them know how disappointed we were, not because we wanted a free feed or anything, lucky coz we weren't offered one, but just as feedback and I was told, "we've never had any complaints about our food before." Well, sorry lady but you might want to check what's coming out of your kitchen before you get so defensive but with there being only one table in the whole restaurant, maybe you've had more complaints than you care to admit.

NEW owners OR WHAT been any times the food was good but now it's terrible when you charge $4:90 for a lemonade time to give it a huge miss the new menu is a shocker no pad thia fried chicken rice $21 keep it

Terrible is the only word. * satay chicken skewers dry<br/>* chicken penang smelt funny - we only ate a mouthful each<br/>* masaman curry flavour not what we expected<br/>* we eat Thai every week at home and found the flavour of this food terrible - when they took the plates away they could see we didnt eat the meat dishes and made a point of not asking.<br/>* Happy to take our money - would NEVER eat there again or recommend it

Worst thai food to date! Never again, total waste of money
Foodie
Horrible. Worst service. I never get what I ordered.
Natalie Woods
I've never seen food come out within 3 minutes of ordering so it must have been microwaved as I could not cook it myself in 3 minutes. Very limited menu . I actually left a lot of food as wasn't very tasty and when I eat Thai my plate is usually squeaky clean

Great for Takeaways. Had a really great meal here. Wasn't too busy so the food was very fast to come out, Service was rather slow though. Food portions are great and large! We took the left overs home with us and they also chucked in some free rice too! $65.00 for two people I thought was really reasonable. The atmosphere was a bit awkward and dated, maybe a bit of authentic Thai music playing would go down a treat. I wouldn't recommend this place for a first date! ;-D

Fantastic Dinner. Went for dinner on a Monday evening with four people. The staff were friendlly, the service was prompt and attentive, and th food was authentic and delicious. Ginger fish was a highlight!<br/>Price is very reasonable and the setting and decor is pleasant. Parking is easy.<br/>We will be back and I would recommend others do the same.

Not bad, not great. Came here for a meal one Saturday night. We ordered an entree of Spring rolls and for mains Pad Thai, Sweet and sour chicken and rice. We ordered some beers but only one came out - must have heard us wrong. The spring rolls came out fast, they were delicious!!! The mains came out soon after. The Pad Thai was very average, not much chicken in it at all, one of my least favorite Pad Thais in Perth actually. I tried a little of the sweet and sour chicken which was quite nice, needed a little more flavor though. Over all wouldn't try pad thai again but would visit again, nice location, not bad service and would be keen to try some other items on the menu.

Great place to go when you are starving. Largest thai meals we have had in a long time! (great for lunch the next day in a doggy bag) Were in a group of 20+ and meals did not take long at all to come out. Laksa soup was fantastic. Pad thai did not have much meat and could of done with more sprouts too. Service was average. Would go back again.
Mon
Eaten in once and had take out twice, food was best the first time, when we ate in. The third and last time we ate here the spring rolls were literally dropping with oil, I almost thought the chicken satay had been mixed up with another dish- very watery and no peanut flavor. Penang beef was ok in taste, quality of meat was poor. Probably wont try take out again..
Megmagsritchie
Rubbish. Did bit like it. Thought food was poor and the service was even worse. Would not recommend.
Zoe Louise
Terrible service. I've eaten here twice and both times was kept waiting for more than 45 minutes for my meal to arrive. I won't be coming back. Very disappointing as not many Thai restaurants in Perth.
Caroline
Delicious. Been there countless times and I love the Amok fish!<br/>The food is always fresh and the dishes so tasty! The portion are quite big and I always have leftovers for lunch the next day!<br/>The staff is polite and dont speak very well english but I think it's all part of the atmosphere! It wound not be quite right to have an ozy serving you Thai food!
Foodhoover
Service was great, food was average lacked the autheticity that Thai food has, fresh and tasty. Stay away from coconut prawns.
Hungry Heather
Happy and relaxed service which made a delicious sunset dinner on the deck a top night out. They even rounded the bill down at the end of the night instead of leaving it to us to round it up as a tip. Where does that happen??! 8/10

I heard about the restaurant and looked at the reviews which were mixed. We tried it out last night and it was good. Nice and fast service, good food and generous portions. The fried rice with chicken was a bit try and bland but otherwise fine. My food was too spicy for me - I am not used to it - they were very nice about, took it back to the kitchen and added some coconut milk. Liked it and will recommend and go back there.

My Fav Thai!!. I have been going to the Thai Palace for years now and no other Thai restaurant has managed to beat their delicious fresh food. Everything from the cashew nut chicken, pad thai to the green fish curry is superb! The staff are always friendly and attentive, the portions are large, the price is fair and the view is to die for! My absolute favourite Thai restaurant!!
Michele
VERY DISAPPOINTING. We live locally and went for the second time to this restaurant on Monday evening, this time for take-out. Our first experience was dine-in and we found the food below average in taste and presentation but 2 months on and we thought we'd give it another go geting take-aways and this was even more disappointing. Definately the worst Pad Thai I have ever eaten, the noodles were brown with some strange tasting sauce which had been added. The other two dishes, ginger duck and a chef special chicken tasted very similar to each other and all the dishes seemed overcooked without any freshness, the roti was inedible. Don't waste your money here if you want real Thai food.

Not Worth It. Although it's nice to have your meals come out pretty much as you order them, when they are as bland and boring as the meals at the Thai Palace then it's really worrying. <br/><br/>On my first visit to the Thai Palace we sat inside and melted while eating tiny overpriced dishes (although the Pad Thai never fully arrived...) and on my second visit we sat outside on a table covered in beautiful plastic Christmas table cloths. The view should have been worth it but it really wasn't because of the terrible disappointment in the dishes.<br/><br/>Doubt we'll ever return.<br/><br/>= [
My Tastebuds
Boring bland food & check your receipts!. I will say it's in a great location, but that's were it ends. The food was boring, bland & over priced. The tables outside still have Christmas themed table cloths on them. After leaving the restaurant, I looked at my receipt & there were dishes on it that we hadn't ordered. When I got home I called the restaurant to let them know they over charged us for food we DIDN'T even order. The owner replied, "Not my fault you didn't eat them". The ignorant rude idiot couldn't grasp the fact the we did NOT order them. He was rude & was refusing to refund me & until I got vocal with him he then agreed to refund me. Check your receipts before you leave & make sure you're only paying for what you ordered!
JYAY
It was nice.... The food was good and the view was even better. The only down fall was the restaurant was really hot and it was hard to relax.
DC
Not great. Shame the food was bad because location and view is nice. Place was pretty empty too.
Jane
Water sauce. New owners and we just had a beef dish (takeaway) in which the sauce had the consistency of orange juice! Hence, tasteless. Fried rice mixed with steamed rice. Hubby on his way to get a full refund now...
Kirsty
Average. I wasn't really impressed with my meal and neither were my friends who actually seemed quiet disappointed about the meat which they said wasnt good.
Sarah
Thai-riffic. This was my second dinner at Thai Palace, and it was as delicious as the first.<br/><br/>I recommended the restaurant for a small after work dinner on Friday. I was apprehensive that my recommendation would be a fizzer and that the food would be not as good as the first time I went last year. It was better!!<br/><br/>We ordered spring rolls for entree, 5 mains and two chicken fried rices. The five mains were scallops in a lemon and ginger sauce, basil duck, squid yum salad, chilli honey chicken and satay beef. They were all delicious, however, I think the basil duck, yum salad, scallops and the rice were the stars. There were only five of us, but as a testament to how fabulous the food was, we polished it all off! And at the bargain price of $35 per person!!<br/><br/>The only down side was that we did have to wait for some of our drink orders to arrive and I had to chase the bill. However, they had no problem with me walking up to the counter and asking for a bottle opener, another two jugs of water etc and otherwise they were very prompt with service.<br/><br/>The interior is clean and bright, they turned the air con on for us when we asked, there is free parking, BYO and lovely views of the sea and sunset.<br/><br/>Overall, highly recommended :-)

Best thai in Perth, cheap, great staff, byo, awesome location, highly recommend, I eat here at least twice a month

Food was yummy, service was good and fast. Restaurant is byo, so dinner cost $25 per head! Good value meal!
