Review Sourdough Kitchen - Seddon

Ivanka Li
Best hot cross buns ever! All those sourdough based pastries are so unique and delicious! Loved cruffin and almond croissant!! Normal pastries can't satisfy me anymore after having Sourdough kitchen's.
Martin Hand
A great bakery with a solid range of breads and pastries. The stand out items for me were the Danish pastries, breads and the red velvet cake. There's also an impressive range of sandwiches available at Sourdough Kitchen. You'll find plenty of pies and sausage rolls too!

Been here a few times as I’m new to the area, the pastries are lovely but the sandwiches are very soggy. Reason for the 1 star is there is a particular girl at the counter who is extremely rude, it’s almost like you’re inconveniencing her by walking in and spending money there. Shame, as they do have lovely items but I’ll be finding somewhere else.

Everything here is amazing! Sandwiches, toastiest, sweets, pastries, fresh baked bread and coffee. Polite staff and very quick. Highly recommended!!!

Food: Great pastries and bread. Awesome to takeaway. But also good vibes if eating in.. Service: They're always very nice, even when it gets super busy, and it does.. Ambience: Friendly locals mostly. Value: Worth the trip I think if you're not too far.

Used to be really great, but has gone downhill under the new owners. Quality of the ingredients has dropped, I got an olive loaf and it was clear they'd used the cheapest possible olives. And the bread itself was pretty lacklustre. Used to be really delicious, and now it's such that I'd rather get a high quality sourdough from the supermarket next door. A great example of how to ruin a business. EDIT: Apparently nothing has changed? Then perhaps clearing out all of the old staff is what did it? Regardless, not as good as it used to be. The new owner would do well to actually listen to the people here all saying the same thing instead of sticking their head in the sand. Otherwise their investment is going to turn out to be a poor one.

As a local I’ve been an occasional customer for a while. Sadly, I find this bakery very hit and miss for quality and quite expensive. Just paid $10.50 for three croissants that were only half-edible. They looked fine from the outside but on getting home each contained a big air pocket and a dense lump of uncooked dough (not that clear from the photo, but believe me, it was). Hardly good value. This is by no means a one-off. Sorry to say I probably won’t be going back.

Gorgeous. Your nose will lead you here. Coffee is without flaw and you just cannot leave without some of their freshly baked bread.
Barbara Penton
My party of three enjoyed our drinks with a donut, a chicken leek sausage roll and a vegan pie. Each very tasty. Side note: We did wonder if they need better table flags? Wait staff seemed to have trouble finding which tables had ordered several items!

I bought a rosemary and fruit loaf. But there was no rosemary at all and barely any fruit. The bread was nice but I was disappointed

Can I just say your pumpkin bread is the best I have ever had in my life. My father who comes from New Zealand to visit us doesn't want anything else apart from that the first day he arrives now. Every. Trip !

Visited this morning around 730 for a loaf of bread. Multigrain loaf: spot on. Takeaway coffee perfect. Thought I'd get a sweet treat as well. some croissants for later. Just served them up at home an unfortunately got some raw pastry and hardly any choccy. Might need to give you croissants a little more time in the oven guys.
Nicole van Cuylenburg
Been getting bread here weekly and overall I've really liked it. But this morning I got the olive loaf this and bit down on a big pip. I was advised it happened sometimes. On the plus side Liam was apologetic, offering a free loaf next time.
Rachel Van Riet
They now make ice cream and open till later! It's all hand made and so so so delicious!!!!!! I called and they stayed open especially so I could get my ice cream fix!!! ( pregnancy craving) lovely owners
Alvin Lin
Your ginger bread is just to die for, amongst your other baked stuff.

I am a daily coffee drinker from here, love their coffee, bread is amazing and staff are always friendly!
Katarina Stenman
Nice bread and deliscious icecream, the best tested in Victoria!!!!?
Kate James
Amazing coffee scroll. Proper coffee icing. I want to come back for breakfast: the sardines on toast looks ace

Considered being a regular here but decided against as it was just to much hard work being a customer here.
Wendye Jameson
Just terrific, terrific food and service and very friendly and engaging staff

This is the Winterfell of bakeries- homely, honest, good quality bread, the inside is timeless ,nothing unnecessary just comfortable solid timber furniture to sit down and enjoy your food ,drink etc, I've tried most things from this bakery and everything has been delicious, it's a little pricy but I'd much rather pay an extra $2 and get fantastic quality
Andrew Stegner
Well if the staff are just going to ignore me while I am in the queue and allow others to pass me and pay bills and buy bread then you don't want me as a customer anymore. I went elsewhere.
Robert Stainsby
Just had a amazingly good takeaway corned beef, cheese and salad sandwich from here. Must have been 5 cm thick, half of that filling. Not to mention the fabulous freshly-baked-on-premises bread. A bargain at $7.50.
Felipe Vanegas Ruiz
Best bread ever! And sourdough croissants are amazing too.

I used to be a regular visitor of Sourdough Kitchen before moving overseas a few years ago. I have had their breads, cakes & Croissants, but was especially fond of their chicken & leek sausage roll. I had it again over the weekend & was so excited to try it again. Unfortunately, it was completely dry, from the pastry through to the filling. Basically inedible & at $6.50 you really don’t want to waste it so I covered it in the supplied chutney to give it some kind of moisture & choked it down. It is nothing like it used to be, which is such a shame. Definitely the worst sausage roll I have ever had in my life. I’m giving two stars instead of one as the server was nice.

Great selection of vegan and vegetarian pies and foccacias. I've tried the Mexican jackfruit pie and the mushroom pie along with a salad. Both tasted good but $9 for a pie was on the pricey side of things for a bakery. Customer service was friendly.
Frankie Camilleri
The bread here is delicious, fantastic actually. I like the consistent coffee as well. Other meal options others then sandwiches are not great but bread is their speciality. Well done.

My score 3.5 stars. Called in here when J & I took our dog CC to the nearby vet. In a bit of a hurry & SK was pretty hectic (Sat am), so just picked up a Rye, Caraway & Walnut loaf. Never seen this combo before & love C or W separately, so paid the $7 for a reasonably small loaf. It was ok but lacked the wow factor to justify the price IMO (pretty stiff competition at this price point). Small selection of meals/lunch items available - will have to come back on a quiet day when we have more time...
Foodie-1723
paid $7 for a very very small banana smoothie. Prices and sizes weren’t shown next to the menu either, if I had known an average tasting smoothie was that much I wouldn’t have bought it!
Joji N
Perfectly crafted small spot designed for catching a quick bite or takeaway.
Although there wasn't much options the sandwich was well balance and light to eat! Coffee was great and service friendly :)
Highly recommended !!

I wanted to purchase bread, came into the shop, people behind the counter looking busy, I waited no one seemed interested in serving me so I walked out. I got my bread a candied bakery in Spotswood...

Went here today after a couple of friends suggested we pick up some food during our lunch break. Was after something quick and easy so I ordered a sandwich from the specials board to go. Also asked for a bottle of water but was informed that the order had not yet arrived at 12.30 and my only alternatives were the selection of mineral waters or orange juice.
Prices are not clearly on display, even on the specials board so it hurt a bit when I was charged $14.50 for one sandwich to go. Regardless I sucked it up and decided to go with it. I waited 25 minutes to get my food, towards the end of the wait I was informed it would take 45 more seconds which turned into minutes again. After the wait I received my sandwich in a paper bag and left. Sitting down to eat it I realised that my giant slices of bread had not been cut in half and eating this sandwich became impossible. The contents were all ridiculously sloppy and there were about 4 giant slabs of beef that would be too thick for a Sunday dinner. After attempting to eat my ridiculously expensive sandwich for the 10 minutes I had left in my lunch break it had turned to complete mush. I packed it in 3 new paper bags for later but it had almost completely liquefied by the later afternoon.
As much as I wanted to find some sort of silver lining there really was none. There was no apology for the delay, the food wasn't tasty, the price was totally unreasonable and the wait completely ridiculous.

Just had a coffee here on a cold Sunday morning. They have a good selection of pastries and breads, doughnuts etc which look great. REAL COFFEE Italian, not that tepid vomit after taste of hipster coffee. Ice cream too!

This bakery is my favourite little brekky place in the West. Great service, and the food is to die for! Please, try their 'brekky burger' and 'ham, cheese, tomato toasted croissant'. You won't be disappointed. 10/10.
Amy Murphy
Croissant and pumpkin loaf that I bought take away we're great! Definitely won't be bothering with Alfa across the road, and am looking forward to trying some more of the range.
Bkelly
You will pay premium dollar for the bread but it's amazing. Freshly baked bread that is extremely good. Nice bakery that offers a lot of choice. Nice place to visit even for a coffee.

With just over 2 weeks until Easter and having seen Sourdough Kitchen at a couple farmers markers, was keen to give their hot cross buns a try. Price was $2.50 for a very nicely sized bun, not as small as some other bakeries, slightly larger than your average supermarket or Bakers delight one. Onto the hot cross bun itself,it was sadly below average. The amount of fruit was reasonable but it lacked the spices which make a hot cross bun distinctive from a fruit bun. Personally, I also found it quite dry and dense which a slightly over baked topped. Would honestly prefer a hot cross buns from a supermarket or Bakers delight.
José
Not the cheapest bread, but definitely the best quality bread in Seddon. Try the Chedder Chilli Sourdough Loaf, the Corn Bread and the Pumpkin Bread, to die for! They also have a selection of gelato and sorbet, they make great gourmet lunches too.

I'm a local and i do like your coffee when i'm around here so i ordered take away coffee, waiting patiently then 2 customers ordered their coffees & presto, got their coffees straight away and here i am waiting!!!
Always felt your service is low!!!
Hello. Imnikki
With the word "sourdough" featured prominently in the name of the cafe, I couldn't leave without buying a loaf of bread home. It also helped that there was a steady stream of customers coming in and leaving with a loaf of bread in their hands, some even leaving with multiple loaves. I was certainly impressed with the pumpkin loaf I bought. It stayed chewy and crusty for 3 days (after which I finished it all), it had a distinct and intense pumpkin flavour, topped with loads of pepitas that went flying everywhere whenever I sliced into it, and possessed a subtle sour aftertaste that you would expect from a sourdough bread. Absolutely loved it. It made up for the lacklustre almond croissant we had dining in. It wasn't buttery nor was it flaky enough, it was actually a bit hard. The vanilla custard cronut was much better; the custard was fragrant and not too sweet and the cronut was overall quite light. We had no issues with the coffee - the skinny latte was balanced and smooth; just that the glass it was served in had a lipstick stain on it. They replaced it quickly without questions, but with no apologies either. A bit of a hit and miss, though I will most likely be back for the gelato.
Lisa
Ended up havung brunch here by chance due to everything being closed. An absolute gem this was! We ordered the chicken sandwich toasted. The best snadwhich I have had in a long time. The lamb pie was also delicious with the flakey puff pastry that melts in your mouth. The coffee is also one of the best I have had. Definitely worth a visit!

This place does fabulous coffee. The owner has renovated the place and has improved customer service. The staff are friendly helpful and efficient. Well done!!

I was a regular here for quite some time but after new management came in the quality of service and atmosphere has decreased immensely, my friends and I tend to avoid this bakery now.
Valina Whites
Great bread, great sweet options, great service, great local business with no frills, other than simple good quality food/drinks. They deliver bread paid forward by clients for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. I also randomly saw one of the staff giving a free coffee to the Big Issue vendor on a cold windy day.
Kell
Not a fan of the pastries here as the sourdough croissant and the sourdough almond and cherry Danish were too stodgy for my liking. Would be better if the dough was more buttery or flakey in texture. On the other hand, I commend Sourdough Kitchen for their interesting loaves such as the Beetroot and hazelnut sourdough. The bread was pleasantly crusty on the outside and was nicely chewy on the inside. The 100% rye had a wonderful taste too, but the texture was too dense and I found it so hard to cut the loaf. Overall, items here are good but some are better than others!
Eliza23
It's difficult to find a good bakery that also serves great coffee a rare combination! A perfect place to come for a quick bite to eat. I tend to get a flat white and a sausage roll. Not healthy but oh so yummy!
Meg
Went here on the recommendation of a friend who thought it was a vegan bakery...Its not but has a few vegan options (choc berry scroll and fruit bun/scroll - fruit buns are often vegan anyway).Vegan scroll ok only -Glad a vegan option is available but it certainly doesn't compare to vegan eateries. Dry, bit of a weird flavour but again, great that a normal bakery offers a vegan option. Salad - nice but essentially paying for a container of leaves with half a cup of actual salad so I would advise against ordering salad as its not worth the $ and was only filled 3/4. Coffee decent. Staff pleasant. All up, an OK experience but I won't be returning.

Although Sourdough has a good reputation, my sister and I left disappointed when we visited.

While my cronut provided the sugar hit I was after, we could not say the same for my sister's "berry and chocolate scroll". We found the chocolate flavour overpowered by that of raisins and orange zest. In fact, we couldn't taste any berry flavour at all. It wasn't a bad scroll, it just wasn't what we had expected.

Coffee was okay, however the chai latter ordered was watery and not pleasant to drink. Service was pretty average.

I'd consider going back to grab a quick take away, but for a nice cafe experience, I'd spend my $17 else where.

Breads are amazing
Love trying the different flavours loaves
Pumpkin bread and cheddar chilli are our fav
Staff are always lovely
Place has a great vibe on a Sunday morning with everyone grabbing brunch
Love it !

This place seems a poplar choice in the area.

I enjoy coffees from here and rate them 6.5 /10

Food is fresh. Service is good.

Parking is free in this area

This is a small bakery with a nice selection of sweet and savoury food, breads, pastries and even ice-cream.

I have a weakness for hot pastries. If they are well made, I will be happy. The sausage roll was lovely, with a huge filling, moist and great taste. One of the best sausage rolls ever. The lentils pie was lovely, tasty and filling, earthy. The Moroccan lamb was delicious with big chunks of meat and a great flavour. The pastry is good and stands the microwave without getting soggy or deflated, but it is not heavy or floury. Very happy.

Coffee is well prepared and medium strength, a bit milky for me, but good enough.

The Sour cherry danish is the least danish danish I have ever tasted. It tasted good, but I thought that was not a danish or not a good one.

Their vegan pizza was good regarding flavour, more than I expected, but very dry. You know, the Italians have always a cruet with chilly oil or just good olive oil to sprinkle dry pizzas, and I thought my pizza al taglio needed some moisture to make it more delicious.

Some of he staff are very very lovely and welcoming, and others are not, like last time I visited.

Patrons of all ages, plenty of youngsters around.

The place is very small, but it has character, it is cozy and great for a quick fix.

An upgraded sort of bakery, way nicer than your average one, but not really gourmet. I'll be back for the hot pastries.

Mind., two room-temperature pies to take away cost 14 bucks. They are lovely, but hey, I consider those prices ABUSIVE.

PS/ They have recently changed the layout of the cafe and it looks better and accommodate customers better as well.

A little more upmarket than your average ‘local bakery’. Again I think it’s partially because the area has become ‘hip’ and they can get away with charging more.

Anyways, the food…. Let’s start with the bread as I’ve grabbed a few loaves to take home several times. They are good. Really good. The rye and pumpkin are my favourite. Now you’re paying around $5-$7 a loaf, but it’s fresh and delicious. Grab one on the day to make sandwiches for your lunch or something. Very tasty, great crumb, flavour and the exterior texture (the crust) is perfect.

I had a pork and fennel sausage roll for a bigger than normal morning tea. Fantastic! There is a lot of pork flavour coming through and I’d say they mince their own pork or buy it from a good local butcher. It’s not supermarket bought I can tell you that. I love fennel with pork and its mixed into the mince and there’s a few seeds on top as well. The pastry is nice and crisp, crunchy and short. Even better is the chutney they give you as well. It’s wonderfully delicious and has good texture, it’s not just some gooey thick 2-tone store bought chutney. It really sets the whole sausage roll off. Price… $6 for a sausage roll or $8 for a pie. It’s a little expensive in my book when you can get cheaper elsewhere but they are very nice. If you’re paying these prices you may as well pay the extra $3 and get their homemade slaw and make a meal of it (the prices are cheaper for takeaway).

The long black with milk on the side came out hot and milk not scolded. Good flavour of coffee, possible not the best blend I’ve had but still pretty good (I don’t remember what blend they use). It was strong which is good because I paid the extra $0.30 for a strong coffee. But bonus points for being presented nicely as pictured (the other pot is a college's tea).

I've never had any staff member be rude, they always have a smile. They can appear a little impatient if your dawdling and its a busy period, but really that's probably to be expected.

If your happy to spend the extra $ then go visit. Even if its once just to taste what a real sausage roll should taste like. I think its a little overpriced or portions need to be bigger then it would be value for money (and get an extra 0.5 points). Then again if people in the area are happy to pay, then more power to them.

We loved their smoked chicken sammich with pumpkin sour dough.. Just the right amount of everything! Ps- try their probiotic kefir soda and hot cross buns if you ever get the chance 💕
Charlie
Ordered the smoked chicken breast sandwich on pumpkin bread. It was amazing! The bread was delicious and everything else tasted so fresh and healthy. The portion was good too. Staff are friendly and service is good. Coffee wasn't very impressive as it arrived lukewarm. Prices are quite cheap in my opinion. There isn't much space available but it's good to have seats outside provided. Overall, it wasn't too bad.
Mikuthechef
Got a chicken salad here for $13, the serving was a little small but everything tasted very fresh and quite healthy. There was roast capsicum which tasted great and curried cauliflower salad that I had mixed into the salad. My friends got the sourdough with Meredith goat's cheese, avocado and lemon - everything looked pretty delicious.
Jose T Cahyadi
sausage rolls with the chutney oh Brilliant! love the varieties of bread they have, definitely a gem in the western suburbs, service could be better, all in all worth a visit!
Eloise Marriott
Love this place TO BITS. Best sourdough in town and all of the staff are my favourite people. Coffee can be iffy but the pumpkin bread and fresh salads are out of this world amazing. Its hard to say no to the rich flourless chocolate cake, not to mention all the delectable goodies on the selves/cabinet/windows. My lunch breaks at work are always made brighter thanks to sourdough kitchen.
Word of warning; NEVER leave without a dark chocolate berry scroll. Its a vegan orgasm.
Yummy Tummy
I have been here a couple of times and been disappointed. Not impressed by the coffee or food. The steak and cheese pie and Moroccan lamb pie didn't have a yummy filling and barely any filling. The pie pastry was slightly under cooked and way too much for the filling. Donut was doughy and dry with only a small amt of jam squeezed on top. Brownie was more like a cake. Pizza dough was quite tough. They ran out of sausage rolls by 12pm on a Sunday. Much prefer Candied bakery in spotswood.
Serg19
Raw croissants. For the second time we have bought raw croissants, this time we decided to call them to let them know and maybe remove them from sale. The staff showed no interest at all, not even an apology, they did offer to return our money but it is not worth the drive.
Lost a customer for life!!
Lilianacavaleri
Size of loaves - disappointed. My disappointment with the Sourdough Kitchen is the value for money especially the loaves of bread.
I used to buy them on a regular basis for myself and often bought & took one to my sister who lives in the country,
when I would visit. Yes they are delicious & dense but I have noticed in the past 6 months or so that they are about the
size of a large bread roll now. Whats up with that? Not impressed so have been buying my bread from Crumbs in
Union Rd Ascot Vale.

Sourdough Kitchen is exactly what the name suggests, a bakery that celebrates everything sourdough: white casalinga, hot cross buns to pizza bases. The sourdough croissants and the sausage rolls are raved about by the locals, but the repertoire also extends to brunch. Sourdough Kitchen doesn’t require fancy plating or trendy warehouse decor. It’s reliance is simply on the wholesome tasty food that the staff proudly present.
Joanna Chan
I took away a chocolate berry scroll and a fruit bun. The smell of sourdough is always unexpected and a pleasant surprise. The scroll was dense and chewy with the tangy flavours of soft berries well contrasted with the

A warmly bakery located on Victoria St in Seddon, a rapidly growing area. As the name suggests, they bake sourdough here. Sourdough bread, and sourdough pastries. Their sourdough pumpkin bread? WOWZER.

Mother liked the pumpkin toast very much, and we left with a large loaf of it in hand.
Blergh!
Updating my review because I ate there today purely on the fact that the plum jam croissant I bought yesterday was so damn nice! This morning I had the pumpkin toast with feta and avo. I always wish that the toast was thicker whenever I eat avo and feta but the bread was delicious and it came with half an avo. As always. I do adore their pumpkin bread. Only gripe is this - if I'm paying $13.50 for avo and feta - please be generous with both component not just one. Giving me half an avo and only a schmear of feta is not good enough. Or at least schmear the feta thickly.

Coffee still not good. But the croissants are better!

10 March 2015 - Coffee is ok - always tastes milky and a bit burnt. Pumpkin bread is good but croissants need work - very crusty outside, raw inside and bottom is charred. Not my favorite place to eat in Seddon.
Erica
For my money, these guys make the best bread in melbourne. I don't live in Seddon but I drive there every two weeks to get a loaf of bread. Beautiful, dense and flavoursome (but not too strong) rye sourdough - just amazing. Their sausage rolls are pretty excellent too :-)
Huntleyvv
Something different. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for something different. The pumpkin sourdough was so yummy even my friends were talking about it and asking where I got it from. I served it with room temperature butter and a bit of salt. Can't wait to try another loaf from here.
Mike
No eggs after 10.30am? Seriously? Since when is cooking an egg harder than waking up at 3am to bake 100s of baked goods? Very strange decision guys.

Corned Beef on Rye - Great Flavour Combo. Great (Germanic) flavours in this sandwich
MJE26
I found the service to be slow ( not very friendly) and our breakfasts to be lacking in value for money. The food was nice, and the coffee ok, however, there are plenty of outstanding places to eat and drink in Seddon so we won't be returning.
Atre
Where's the sourdough?. Came here looking for some sourdough rye bread. My beloved eastern European bakery in balaclava being a bit far I was searching for a local source. I was told the rye bread loaf was 40% rye so I got it as opposed to the 100% rye. I thought they would all be a sourdough but I can't taste it, and it tastes of wheat flour rather than rye. I was a bit shocked at the price too, $6.70 for a small loaf and the 100% rye was the same price but a puny size. I think this cafe caters to the yuppie/hipster Seddon crowd rather than us value-for-money footscray locals.

Good coffee and tasty food. Had breakfast here before work. Coffee is quite good, food is tasty. There was quite a rush for the coffees pre-work so best not to sit close to the door.
Looking forward to trying some of the other baked goods next time.
Was a little disappointed when I asked to have a coffee card stamped for the coffees we had with breakfast though the staff member told me no that is only for take away customers. No loyalty card stamps for customers that dine in and spend more confused me.

The best BREAD. All I can say is yum yum yum to their bread and other baked goods. I treated myself to a hot cross bun...oh and what a bun!! My favourite is the beetroot and hazelnut loaf YUM!!! I'm still yet to try a pie.
Genna Brown
The best place for brunch! Their bread is all homemade and it makes a difference to all of the other places I have dined at! Would totally recommend to everyone!
Tommy Boyce
The best sausage roll I've ever had. Nice pizza too but the base is a bit tough. Great to be able to get sourdough croissants too (they are great also). Fantastic chai tea also!

We used to come here weekly but lately something has changed. The staff are still great but the coffee has slipped. 3 takeaway coffees in a row were burnt, twice the pizza's crust was so burnt it nearly broke my jaw. The takeaway quiche was 2 days old yet they charged full price. To top it off my usual order, the chicken sandwich is almost exempt from chicken so is the sparseness. Advieh has surpassed it in every way. Shame. It used to be wonderful. Please overturn to your previous standards as we'd love to return. May I suggest a feedback/comments box?
M
Former regular. They do a lot and do it very well but my last few visits (a while back), the coffee started to become inconsistent (a few changes of baristas) and it was always jam packed - this isn't a bad thing unless you like your space, which I certainly do. I couldn't fault any of the foods on offer and the staff were lovely.
James
Up your game . Place seems a little tired - annoying door , terrible acoustics,-things I can handle but lately the product has been below par for an area that is becoming more competitive by the month. Had the pork sausage roll for lunch which was 2/10 . It was as if it had been reheated more than once and sitting in a warming oven for hours. Pastry was awful and the sausage mix was old . When the mix has marbled pinkness - it's a give away. Please sourdough start by fixing your sign and take it from there.
I do hope you realise I care for your place and I will still come bit I fear many may not.
Peaonie
Great bakery!. The coffee is great and I have never been disappointed with the foods. Love their grainy breads and their almond croissants. Buttery goodness! Don't be put off if there is a long queue inside, the service is quick.

Great for catering!! Seriously is there anything this bunch can't do?? I'm a customer and a lover of Sourdough Kitchen, it's been great to see the business progress since it first opened a few years ago. I recently ordered some catering for a work function as I knew it would be yummy and I wanted to support a local business. The food was fantastic, all my clients loved it and raved about how yummy it all was! The service was friendly and efficient; I'd definietely order from them again and have no hesitation in recommending them to others.

I've been to Sourdough Kitchen a few times and have always been met with great service and delicious food. My favorite is the pumpkin and cauliflower salad. Yum!

Do you know what 'real' hard work is? Well, watch these guys.
They smash it. Fast paced, efficient service amongst the madness.
They love local, they love the people, and they clearly love bread.
Ain't nothin wrong with that.

I like bread.

Best sandwiches going around- fresh n crispy bread
My number 1 spot for a great fresh salad sandwich

Yummy sausage rolls. Love the bread, the sausage rolls are delicious and the coffee is ok ( although the coffee is a bit hit or miss depending on who is making it).

Second beat takeaway in the area (I'm a local) but depending on who's on the coffee machine it's very close!!! Plum jam croissants are a dream if the right baker is on and the sandwiches are AWESOME!!!! Love this place.

Always the best Breakfast on weekends. Staff are friendly, food is exceptional!
Hannah McDonald
Love it.. This place is warm and cosy and service is polite, fast and with a smile. I've never encountered rude staff and everyone is always so friendly.
I usually just stop in for a Coffee but I have eaten the lamb and fennel sausage roll that had some kind of delicious apple/saltana relish type thing on the side. I'd definitely recommend that.
The pastries are also delicious.

First timer at Sourdough Kitchen.
Had the BLT which was fantastic.
Full of flavor and bread was perfect.
Not too big and not too small.
Coffee was spot on.
I like my coffee strong and this place had just the right blend without having to ask for an extra shot.
Seems these days most places make their coffee quite weak but this one was just right. I had 2 actually, and both were perfect.

Thumbs up for service too.
Dont know what the negative reviews re: service are all about. I found them very friendly.
Will def be back.
Get Your Eat On
Disappointment. Came here with high hopes after all the rave reviews people wrote. Came for brunch and tried their homemade gnocchi in burnt butter and sage sauce, steak sandwhich and a ham, cheese, tomato croissant. The service was a bit scattered to say the least. Lots of takeaway coffees and only one wait staff to man the tables. Food came quick, but our waitress seemed flustered, preoccupied and dazed - must be an off day. Anyways, the food. Croissant was ok. Lacklustre and nothing you can't get anywhere else. The gnocchi was bland and needed salt for flavour. Not worth the $13 they charged considering I got around ten pieces of gnochhi and one sage leaf. The steak sandwhich my partner ordered wasn't too bad, quite tasty compared to the other two. Coffee was bitter. When we left i thought i should give the bread and double choc muffin a go. My god, it was just another disappointment! The muffin was hard and tasteless. It was just an all round disappointment, worst part? $57 to remind me never to come Seddon on a Monday when Seddon deadly sins are closed!!

This place is just wonderful. The pumpkin/feta/avo/poached eggs on toast are simply perfect. The pork and fennel sausage roll is perfection. And the pizzas are wonderful. Only real gripe is I've never had a decent coffee here in over 20 visits. It won't stop me going but I do wish they'd get a barista. Also, BUY BREAD to take home. It's wonderful!

It's been so nice to watch this place and menu grow. They are kid friendly, the food is simple and delicious, the staff are easy going and genuine (even when it's pumping) and the prices are reasonable. Hooray!

Sourdough awesomeness. Great place for coffee and a delicious lunch. The pizzas are so delicious, with a salad it make a perfect lunch! Great atmosphere, and is truly the rustic and down to earth Seddon/ Footscray kind of place to go to :)

The staff were friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us despite being busy. Great coffee served quickly. Delicious food - especially the pumpkin bread. We'll definitely return.

Don't appreciate the manager screaming at the poor waitress' every few seconds for coffee whilst I try to enjoy my lunch.. Avec hair! Overrated!

A fine loaf. Sour Dough has been welcome addition to the Seddon village, they have established a good solid business based on two very important principles, excellent product & excellent service. Who says you have to be rude to be a hipster. These guys blow that theory out of the water. I applaud them for their great range of foods & the way they treat their customers. My favourite products from Sour Dough are the multi grain loaf, the pumpkin loaf & their mushroom pizza slices.

Service was great, food and coffee delicious and well priced! Will definitely keep coming back.

Not kid friendly and rude staff. Do not eat-in if you have young children. There are no high chairs and a very limited kids menu. The front of house staff are rude to children (and parents). Also, on three occasions I've gently suggested that it would be good for business if they had high chairs (and a better kids menu), Iand I've been rudely fobbed off. To be fair, however, the food is excellent and good value.

Same again thanks. Mushroom omelet sooo tasty will be back

Croissant, Croissant, Croissant!. The sourdough croissants have been so good I have yet to try anything else!

Might be onto a winner. Looking good so far. I'm enjoying this place quite a bit. another posted recognized the same thing i did regarding the inconsistent size of the sandwiches. Surely they need to be same all the time, i felt that was a little bit of a rip off. Coffee is good, menu is simple which i like but a tad restrictive

Great Bread!!. Happened to stumble accross this place while doing a bit of shopping in the street, it doesn't look fancy but made nice coffee and breakfast. The breads were delicious and I loved that because that was their strong point, most of the menu revolved around bread. It is a smart idea and a great little place for breakkie or lunch. FYI the dark chocolate and berry scroll was AMAZING!!

Love Love Love. I love this place! It has the best bread, my favourites are the multigrain and the sage & onion. The pork sausage rolls are amazing, and the pizza slices are really nice. Also: best croissants in Melbourne – all the flavours are nice, but the plain ones and the almond are simply stunning. Coffee is always good. The staff are lovely, and very attentive. Overall a lovely place to come for lunch.

Finally came here for the first time today - I usually get my coffee at Le Chien and now Common Galaxia.
Came up to the counter - there were three staff chatting at the register so I waited for a sign that I should order as I didn't want to interrupt. The staff member who was supposed to be taking orders kept glancing at me with a blank look on her face then gazing behind me as if I were invisible. I ended up asking, "Ready?". No answer, just a long, unfriendly stare at my face. I ordered my coffee and she practically threw my change at me without a word. Such appalling customer service! This means you, young woman with the round, dangly earrings. I won't be coming back.

Best Produce, Service, Atmosphere!. It is a 30 minute drive from home.....I will come here every week to get a freshly baked Sourdough loaf. I have yet to find a place that is better. if you are somewhat like myself and enjoy the best in fresh produce, then go no other than the Sourdough Kitchen. The staff are all smiles, breakfast and lunch are divine, the coffee is Great and the atmosphere is inviting. If you come to eat in, be prepared to bring a loaf to share with the family when you come home.

Seddon Got Lucky. This place makes the best sourdough sandwiches in Melbourne. I used to think Dench Bakers (North Fitzroy) mastered their bread, but this joint will make them look like amateurs. The chef takes great pride in his food, so it's made with quality ingredients and served generously. All sandwiches are $8.50 and If I could get these sandwiches in the CBD, I'll have them everyday for lunch. IMO they should consider making these in Seddon and sell them in the city during lunch time; they'll be gone in 60 seconds. They are often overwhelmed by takeaway coffee patrons but will still manage to look after you as soon as they could. Highly recommended.

Best in the west. The chocolate croissants are amazing! and being the same owners as new venture Footscray Milking Station, these guys are on a high and doing well! Cant wait to see what they do next.

Good. Tried sourdough kitchen for the first time and was pleasantly surprised, very busy place, had poached eggs, coffee. food was good, coffee was great and good value for money, it was a little unorganized but apart from that I will be back .

Confusion. In reference to Alexander M, I'm pretty sure that Sourdough Kitchen and Footscray Milking station are owned by different people. Check facts before posting such info. :)

-----04 Jul, 2012-----

Great stuff. Bread is great. The smoked chicken on pumpkin bread is a lifesaver.

Sourdough heaven. Decent croissants here, i get them on the way to work sometimes and a good latte too. I like the service, theyre a really nice bunch with lots of regulars coming through. footscray is adorable now with great food options everywhere, i recommend this cafe, the eggs on pumpkin bread is tasty also and cheap.
