Review Cafe Froot - Semaphore

One of my favourite places to eat! Food is always super yummy and wait times aren't usually too bad. (Photo is of Corn Fritter special with egg and bacon).

Great coffee. Loved the roast veg focaccia. First time here but it won't be the last.

I came here with a friend every week and we always had a great time, I brought my girlfriend here as well. The place is 11/10. The food is the same. I can't even explain it. You guys are awesome. The staff are super nice, place is always clean, food is A+.

Can’t give zero stars. Ordered a coffee with an extra shot. Got a cup of hot milk. Politely requested they put an ‘extra’ shot in it, was essentially still a cup of hot milk. Tasted it, then poured it in a bin. Noting the other reviews, seems that may be an anomaly.

Excellent long black coffee, and the bitchin breakfast was well bitchin. Scrambled eggs the size of my head, great stop for breakfast on cold morning or any morning I'd say

Fast yummy food! This place is always packed, has such a fun and energetic vibe and great prices. They brought out a salt and pepper grinder with my food which never happens and I was in love! Only open for breakfast and lunch, and does great coffees! Outdoor and indoor seating. Will be back!

A very funky cafe ideally situated in beachside Semaphore. The service was friendly and the meals came out very quickly. As you can see by the photos you don't walk away hungry with generous servings for the price. The food is extremely tasty and the coffee keeps you wanting more. There are lots to choose from for all times of the day for both food and drink. They also cater for dietary requirement. Highly recommended. Will definitely be returning.

What a great busy little place! Delicious food. Well work having a look and a bite to eat. Ordered 11.30am ish for late breakfast. Delicious!

food was okay. had the norwegian eggs benny and green eggs and ham. asked for eggs benny eggs to be done super runny but they came out well done :( the scrambled eggs were pretty tasteless and also not very fluffy. coffee very average. prices about 2-3$ more than the ones posted here on zomato. service was really nice, friendly and welcoming, but probably wouldn't return due to the food.

Outside dining allowed us to enjoy brunch with our dog while soaking up some winter sunshine. We had the Smoked Salmon Bagel and Bitchin' Brekky. Both our dishes came out quickly, were tasty and servings were generous! Will definitely be back :)

Great food and friendly service fond here. Very popular with the locals. We had the BLT and vegie rostie for breakfast, both were fantastic and very good value.

Well.... I've been a customer at Froot cafe for many many years and I can honestly say,I've never experienced a bad meal or rude staff in the entire time. If it's so bad then WHY is the place often packed with people waiting on the footpath for a table??? Locals love the place. I've never known the owner,Phil to be rude to a customer and I dare say, having worked in retail, there's always customers who are downright rude and expect everything to be perfect ALL of the time. I've been to a well known place in the city and found a whole cockroach in my dinner! At least it had been cooked :)

Someone complained about the early closing times. YOU get up and work a 12 hour day EVERY day and see how you feel.
At Froot you get a good generous meal at very reasonable prices and I do coffee there with friends, every week day.

Cafe Froot is a fun, quirky cafe that is often busy due to it's delicious food and friendly service. The owner is hands-on and knows his regulars, he always has a smile on his face. Food has gone slightly downhill with a new chef, but prices are fair and the food is tasty. The bitchin' breakfast is delicious!

Liked it here previously but today found bits of cockroach in the food. Owner denied it but took the plate away amazingly quickly, considering he didn't think there was anything wrong. Offered a partial refund for our meals and was rude to us before admitting that yes, there was cockroach in the food.

My mum and I went to Froot yesterday and my mum ordered a carrot juice. With about a quarter to go she found TWO dead flies floating around in her glass. When she took it up to the owner his response in a very rude tone was 'well it wasn't there when I made it'. I can't believe that not only could they serve up something so revolting but then to not even apologize for it is a whole new level of poor management and hospitality. Absolutely appalled by this and won't be visiting again.

Really liked it here despite the negative reviews. It's bright and inviting, friendly service, very affordable and huge servings! Juices were fresh and salmon bagel deelish! Great hangover brekky accompanied by the sea breeze and it's dog friendly too! Yay!😀

Terrible overpriced food!. Ordered the $11.90 bitchin' breakfast which consisted of toast, eggs, bacon and a tomato. Paid an extra $5.80 to add a hash brown and mushrooms. When our meals came out they were missing the extras we paid for. When we let the waitress know our meals were not right she was rude, simply saying 'well it wasn't on the docket'. Everything on the plate was stone cold, greasy and the mushrooms tasted like dirt. Do not waste your money!

Worst breakfast. The worst breakfast I have ever experienced, all the ingredients tasted like budget rubber. Paid $14.90 for eggs florentine then a further $2.90 for a piece of bacon that came out separately to my breakfast - the lady was rude when I asked where my bacon was when she brought it out she just put the bacon on the table and didn't even apologise. Would 10/10 recommend not coming here for breakfast rude staff, disgusting meals.

Awful value!. Just finished lunch at cafe Froot.I ordered the salt and pepper squid. It came out with 5 baby pieces of squid not even enough for a entree or snack with a tiny salad and chips. For $16!!! what a rip off, save your money and go to Swedish tarts or Ambrosia. for semaphore road where the standards are high this place is greedy and not worth the money!

Rude service. bland food. Don't bother. We've only been the once, and never again. The food simply wasn't up to scratch. The service was even worse. We made a polite request to swap a fruit smoothie for something else because it tasted of nothing but yogurt. We were then confronted by the manager and told that it was supposed to be that way. Instead of offering us something different they just put more berries in which didn't help.

Best S&P squid in Adelaide.. Love it here.
Always a great place to go after a swim or a morning of failed fishing. Decent portions and makes a difference have FRESH juice instead of bottled. Do recommend, decent service and more than reasonably priced. Solid at breakfast, too.

Don't get the hot chocolate. Paid $3.70 for the worst hot chocolate I've ever had

Delicious and great service. I absolutely LOVE cafe froot, the food is amazing with even better prices. I feel as if I'm getting such a bargain every time I go! The fact that they have all day breakfast is great as I love delving into their sweet banana pancakes with maple syrup and a bit of a cheeky icecream on the side. Although, if you don't have a sweet tooth or are looking for a bit more of a lunch or dinner, their menu is also fantastic.I can't go past the open steak sandwich with beautifully caramlised onion and a heap of fries on the side or their blt for a lighter lunch, always topped off with a banana smoothie (the best I've ever had if I must say) The service that you receive is great, the owner, Phil I believe his name to be, is always around and smiling. It is easy to tell that Cafe Froot is his home. This place is definitely my favouorite local cafe and would recommend to anyone, in fact I think I will stop by tomorrow after talking about how delicious this place is!

A favourite local haunt of mine. Always friendly and helpful. The breakfasts are worth the visit and the coffee is good. Sit outside and watch the unique blend of characters walk past. Parking can be a hassle though, and the Chocolate Cake will make you fat. Well, it didn't help me to lose weight!
Travelling Wonder
Big meals, very flavoursome. Good service & reasonable prices. Would go again for green eggs & coffee.

Swore I'd never go back to Froot after the worst service ever a couple of years back. A park and table right out front swayed me to give it a second chance and I have to admit I am glad I did.
Massive meals, great value and awesome flavours!
Amongst the best scrambled eggs I've ever had.

Service lacking. Well this cafe used to be good and friendly and open for an early dinner. We used to have an early tea of full English. Just lately they always seem to close the kitchen early . Today we went at 4 pm and were asked if we wanted food or just a coffee. Then when we said food we were told in an abrupt manner that the kitchen was closed. Our feet did the talking.
There is no hours signage on the business so you don't know what hours they serve and some food is dinner type food, and they used to serve till about 6.30. They also have not changed the menu in years and rotate the few specials.
If they are now only breakfast and lunch then just have some signage on the business that says open for breakfast or lunch. Not like they have a dedicated web site to find out. And there is no profile information on Facebook.
Getting a bit tired is the feeling. Anywhere else but Adelaide it might be out of business.

Great food, great service! On a sh*thouse winters day, we were welcomed on a Saturday with a warm greeting and a lovely warm coffee. Had the Bitch'n Brekky, wow. When considering a value-for-money brekky, I offer 2 words of wisdom... Get here!

Great food and service. Went here for breakfast Saturday morning and it was fantastic. I didn't think it could compare to some of the other great cafes on Semaphore Road, but i was completely wrong. There is something for everyone on the menu, the service was efficient, staff friendly, and the food was good (and cheap!). And i had one of the nicest coffees i've had in awhile - it was made perfectly. Will definitely be back.

I always spoke highly of Froot Cafe in Semaphore but the last couple of visits have been really dissapointing. The quality of the food has dropped dramatically and the waiting staffs attitudes seem to display the same lack of care. I hope they lift there game as I am in no hurry to go back

Service and food have been consistently amazing over the years! Super generous servings and prices very reasonable! We always walk out of this place full!! Love it!

The place is small but well decorated! I'm not a fan of monjava coffee but the coffee itself was made well. As for the food it was well priced but my son and I both ordered pancakes as a special treat and It was disappointing how bland and rubbery these were. I'm unsure if they are premade or whether it just a poor recipe. Unfortunately I probably won't come back.

Love this place, great service always, great breakfast any day, our Semaphore staple.

Service is always stellar, bread fresh and the house made beans with dill... Mmmmm the beans!

Bitchin, pot of tea and the Sunday paper and I am in heaven!

AWESOME SPOT FOR BREAKFAST. Breakfast here is sensational, reasonable princes and good portions. The food is exactly what you’d hope for in a cooked breakfast and the place has a comfortable rustic feel which is ideal for this part of town.

Always delicious!

Friendly staff but the food wasn't up to mark! Had the bitchin' brekky, the bacon was over cooked and the eggs were not done properly.

Totally recommend the Green Eggs... Super value for money ... I reckon the cost only covers the procuitto - Yum! Great baguettes also

Best big hot "bitchin brekkie" in semaphore especially for the price. Great strong coffee.

Owner Defence. I too am wondering how u could come to the conclusion that the owner is rude... He is probably the friendliest cafe owner I have ever come accross he is always polite and always asks how I am and all that. I've been eating at this cafe every weekend for the past 3 years and love the place... It gets busy at around 930ish and can be crazy but he and his staff always manage a smile and a gday...

Best Pancakes. Love the coffee and the Pancakes with banana and cinnamon are to die for. Flys inside were a problem tho so I recommend sitting outside.

Praise for Cafe Froot. I'm horrified to read the above review as I came on here to sing the praises of the owner!! He is the friendliest guy and constantly provides 110% service! Amazing coffee and yummy breakfasts too.

Anon. Honestly: nice cafe its just unfortunate about the rude owner!

Simple cafe down semaphore. Low ish prices and nice service but can be a pain to find a park close by. I had the fruit salad and I'd say it was alright but only a 7 out of 10 for something so simple. Overall though I'd give it a 8/10 for it's life, atmosphere and service.

There are over a dozen breakfast options with nothing too overly complicated. There is a lunch and dinner menu which is smaller in size and slightly more expensive.

A quick, cheap and somewhat late (3pm ish) meal by the beach in Semaphore, and only one of the few places still serving lunch at that hour. Cafe Froot is in amongst all the cafes on Semaphore Road with its bright orange and colourful signage, you can’t miss it if you’re walking/driving along. The cafe is small but surprisingly there’s plenty of seating inside and outside the footpath. Breakfast is served all day and there’s also a lunch and dinner menu too. We were in for a quick feed before we headed down to the beach for a stroll and an impromptu game of mini golf at the Semaphore Water Slide & Mini Golf Complex ($5 per person). The stranger bet me by a mile if anyone was wondering… hehe. Open steak sandwich: tender sirloin steak on toasted wood oven bread with roast capsicum, mushrooms, fried egg, onion jam and fries; $14.90 Bitchin’ brekky: bacon, poached eggs, tomato and wood oven multigrain toast with extra mushrooms; $10.90 + $2.50 Pretty standard stuff really.
