Review Basilico - Sheffield

Wow. Was not expecting to find such a gem. Epic pizza and pasta. The pizza was authentic Italian style but the base retained its integrity which so few thin base pizzas do. The pasta was hand made and the sauce delish. Lovely, speedy service. Wholeheartedly recommend.

What a hidden gem in the middle of Tasmania! Really authentic high class Italian food for very reasonable prices. Delicious pizza, homemade pasta and gelato- was a very lovely dinner. Definitely recommend this place for dinner to everyone who’s staying in Sheffield or even just driving through. Worth it!

When I came to the tiny unsuspecting mural town of Sheffield Tasmania, I didn’t expect to be transported back to northern Italy, and yet Basilico has managed to do just that. Basilico, like the town, is a unsuspecting restaurant attached to the Sheffield motor Inn. It is neither particularly flashy nor fancy, but it’s food manages to be perhaps the most authentic Italian food I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing at an Italian restaurant. The lasagne I was offered reminded me of what my nonna would make. It didn’t have fancy XO sauce or French Riviera truffles, it focused on the basics of good Italian food, fresh wholesome ingredients that compliment each other rather than outplay one another. Don’t go to Basilico expecting a Michelin star experience, it isn’t that, it’s a small family owned restaurant that cooks the food they would love and eat, and that is what makes it special. Basilico is a gem, and I would strongly recommend it to anyone considering a stay in Sheffield.

What an amazing place. I read all of this places reviews and wasn't sure what to expect, but as soon as we sat down it was an excellent experience. The food tastes like it is straight out of Italy, and the drinks were perfect. Some of the best Italian Cuisine we have found so far in Tasmania, and was priced very well. Thank you!

We’ve been living in Sheffield for almost 2 months and I wish I had come to Basílico before I did!!! Best italian I’ve tried so far, both pasta 🍝 and pizza 🍕are freshly made and taste as amazing and delicious as in Italy! Couldn’t thank more to Francesca who received us very happy and excited as new customers. All bad reviews are just lies, not the people nor the food are close to what they’re saying. We’ll be back in no time to have a bit more of everything!!! 😋

My partner and I both had dinner here, and can't speak highly enough of how delicious our meals were. Reading the one star reviews a few people have left, just reminds us that there are still plenty of entitled Karens around that feel a need to complain to make themselves feel important. Seriously this is great food!

A beautiful true Italian restaurant serving fresh made or self preserved everything. My meal of pizza, mushroom risotto with sage pesto, tiramisu and delicious variants of the classic rum ball will not soon be forgotten. The lovely proprietors will tend to your every culinary requirement to guarantee your satisfaction. If you're looking for a little magic and pasta, this is your place.

Highly recommended when you’re in Sheffield! We had stone baked pizza and parpadelle with ragu for dinner. Just one thing, I prefer my pizza to be baked just a tiny bit further. Other than that, everything was delicious! Perfect meal for a cold night!

We regularly dine at Basilico and thoroughly enjoy their fresh, authentic pasta and pizza menu. A must if in Sheffield for dinner. Lovely, friendly service with a smile from the owner and a talented chef at the helm, with an ever changing menu based on local and seasonal produce. Very reasonably priced and a lovely warm atmosphere. They also now have a daytime deli option with takeaway antipasto and prepared home pasta options.

Fantastic authentic Italian food in the heart of Cradle country. We were greeted on a cold Thursday night by friendly staff and delicious food. The portions are sizeable and well worth the price, using handmade pastas and dough accompanied by locally sourced ingredients.

What a great place. Good, hand made food (no packet stuff here) and helpful, welcoming staff, even though we were very late and probably outstayed our welcome. Sheffield needs something like this, which delivers cheap, well made food even on cold winter's nights. Long may Basilico last!

Not since finding the Wild Caraway in Advocate Nova Scotia have I had such a great meal in such an unexpected place. We started with Carpacio and followed with Caprese Salad and Prosciutto Pizza. All fantastic. Oh and we started with a really great Negroni each. Highly recommended.

Couldn’t believe how good tonight’s meals were! Top notch service from the moment we walked through the door and quick service. Authentic Italian pizza and pasta and is definitely worth the drive.

We had our Xmas staff end of year dinner last weekend. The staff were very helpful and accommodating for different dietary needs. Highly recommend!

We had dinner here with friends last Saturday, and lunch - just my husband and myself today. Fabulous food. Great service. We are thrilled that they are here in little Sheffield - a great adjunct to a town with so many good eating places. Many congratulations. Try the beef cheeks in white wine sauce with papadelle pasta, or the fettucine with salmon or..... and so it goes on.

Opening night and we were there. Superb food, fresh homemade pasta and sauces and fabulous welcoming owners. I love the fact that it features so many traditional Italian dishes - and the ones we had tasted beautiful. I had the Fusilli with prosciutto and asparagus - to die for. Congratulations guys - we will definitely be back!

What a find in downtown Sheffield, do yourself a favour and book in, Thursday night pasta and wine for $20. Unlike some other places this restaurant actually makes their own pasta and sauce, they also have a great little deli section for take home essentials 😊

I can't wait to come back here. Food was excellent and is the perfect place to stop for dinner on your way up to Cradle Mountain.

A very pleasant place, very professional hosts, extremely friendly service, great (fresh, tasty, well presented, authentic, exquisite) food, affordable prices, beautifully decorated restroom--you have to try it all to believe it!

We had such a wonderful evening at Basilico last night. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the Pappardelle, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely be back!
