Just had a delicious lunch at Barn Owl. The staff are super friendly and it was the perfect place to take kids and keep them entertained while you enjoy your meal. Plus the u-pick out the back made it a really fun day for everyone. We will definitely be back!!
They were flat out today so there was quite a wait but when the food came it was worth the wait. The Buddha bowl was delicious as were the smoothies. Katie and her staff were all friendly and apologetic for the wait. Definitely be back.
Great venue, great food, great coffee, charming and friendly staff in a beautiful setting. In door and outdoor setting.. very charming and friendly vibe. I come here to do work on my lap top and have lunch when i visit my parents who live in the area. Great vegetarian dishes. Love it!

We loved it here today, kids had a great time playing with the toys, patting the chickens and running around outside with all the space. Great coffee and food and friendly service. Blankets were a great idea too! Thanks
The whole cafe was terrific, everything from the food, staff and atmosphere, the only thing I can say the coffee was quite weak, because I do like stronger, what’s that “you can’t please everyone all the time”
If you’re ever in the Silvan area, go to the barn owl cafe immediately and order a real coffee milkshake. Worth all the calories. It’s soooooo good. We didn’t have lunch but all the food that came out looked really good. They have lots of goodies in the cafe to buy and take home as well. Really lovely spot.
Have heard a lot about this place and decided to try - and it did not disappoint. Went with our two little kids and they loved it. Chickens to see outside and a jumping castle set up outside. Food was delicious (we ordered chicken salad and a burger) and coffee was great too!

Probably the best pumpkin soup I’ve had. Nice and viscous, but not chunky, so it had an amazing texture.
Also good portion size of the chicken salad and tasted great.
This place would be popular even in Brunswick.
If in the area would definitely return.
Best coffee around Monbulk by far. The food is superb. So fresh, full of flavour, big portions and best value for money.
They are very kid friendly with a jumping castle, chickens and toys to keep them happy. Their picnic packs are perfect for kids with a toastie, fruit drink, piece of fresh fruit and a home baked treat too!
Did I mention they make the best coffee!

Ample seating indoors and outside, friendly service, a great menu with changing specials, reasonably priced AND generous portion sizes.
I had the chilli con carne with sweet potato fries ($16)...strange combination but I'm not complaining. The chilli con carne is a huge serving with a decent amount of chilli and is very flavoursome. The sweet potato fries have a great batter on them.
Only suggested improvements would be some weeding and neatening up in the outdoor area.
Check this place out, it's a real standout amongst the other cafes around the hills.
Friendly happy service. Food portions and price were great. My two year old loved the chickens outside and the toys available to play with. Returned with my partner on a Sunday when they had a live singer with his acoustic guitar it really added to the experience they where busy and still managed to find us a table and apologised and tried to give us complimentary coffee due to the wait! ...food was worth the wait
Having changed to new owners since last year, this was a new experience. A conservatively updated Cafe serves very well portioned breakfasts and burgers, with a small but interesting specials board. Food was very good, this would easily become a regular haunt if it was nearer to home. Coffee required a revision, but the in-house blend is very good (drunk as a long macchiato) and suits black and white drinkers. The dukkah (made on the premises) is the best I've had. Staff were friendly and polite, with prompt and helpful service.

The Barn Owl café resides on a berry farm, and is located on the site of the former Hillbilly Farm café. It has been refurbished, with much of the former bays of farm produce gone to make way for table settings. The interior appears to be a converted shed, complete with roller door, and being on a farm, the overall impression, not surprisingly, is of a large rustic farmhouse kitchen. The décor reinforces this rustic feel, with a wooden paling lined counter, a corrugated iron clad counter, and some white painted antique wall cabinets displaying a few goods for sale. The table settings are basic but smart, with black pressed steel chairs and plain dark laminex topped tables. Some outdoor tables are arranged under a large verandah for good weather dining. The menu has standard breakfast fare - big breakfast, smashed avo, etc - with some vegetarian choices. On this occasion I simply had the artisan fruit toast with berries, and a flat white. The coffee was not bad at all, and the fruit toast was nicely presented with berries fresh from the field. The service was welcoming and very casual. This cafe is not your urban trendy venue, but is down to earth and quite pleasant.
Came here the other day- what a cute little cafe! Lovely staff. Really nice outdoor area to sit in too. Had the smashed avo which was really good and generous serving! Coffee was really great too!

Lovely place, I just got a takeaway coffee but it looks like a great place to have lunch etc. It's very open and seems like a good place to gather with mates while the 'rona is around! I gave 4 starts cause it's not my most fave coffee, but if you dig the taste, it could be a five star for you.
Lovely Cafe. Service was great. It's kid friendly. Worth a drive out here. They stock some lovely hand made items made by locals as well.
Fresh food, reasonable price, lovely environment, friendly staffs... and many more! Easily spent hours here. Gotta come back for berries at its harvest season!

The Barn Owl Cafe in Silvan will bring the kids joy!
They're worth scheduling this stop into a day trip in the Dandenongs! Firstly, the cafe is absolutely kid-friendly, with a spacious and fenced in yard where the kids can roam.
Since our visit - they've added chooks back to the family and have an outdoor sandpit for the kids to play in.
Their kid's menu was an absolute highlight for us, and the kids loved having a banana milkshake with their meal combo! They have options for babies, toddlers, and older kids. Think smashed, finger food, or meals.
You'll enjoy your meal too, with a substantial all-day menu, and great coffee! There are some tables inside, but we think the outside area is the winner. Either sit in their weatherproof covered pergola, or on one of their bench tables under a tall tree. The kids enjoyed collecting rocks and sticks during our stay! The service was absolutely friendly and fast too!
But wait, there's more! Seasonally, there is blueberry picking on location too! Silvan is known for wonderful DIY berry picking, so you can tick both of those options off at one location! The kids absolutely loved picking the blueberries. We also went past Chappies Berries down the road, to pick up some freshly picked raspberries and blackberries.
