Review L’olio Italian Restaurant - Smithfield

Great selection of gnocchi. Fresh and tasty meal. Cute atmosphere, great to catch up with friends over a great meal and glass of vino.

There's a reason they specialise in gnocchi. Each dish was amazing. The flavour balance was spot on and the texture of the gnocchi was perfect, I was able to finish my dish without filling heavy like I normally would with other gnocchi places. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend! I've done both done and and takeaway and the quality is just as good both ways.

Molto Benne Ordered the gnocchi Napolitano and it was heavenly. It reminds me of the Italian grandma I never had. The only downside was that it had to end.

Food great Service good Dinned in and the atmosphere was great cute and hidden I've been twice in two weeks, would recommend trying it out if your a gnocchi fan. Gnocchi were like little fulffy pillows which means fresh and cooking time was right on point. Well done 5 stars for consistency!

Giving 4 stars because their Gnocchi (gorgonzola) was one of the BEST I ever had. And I’ve had my fair share of gnocchi in Sydney. Their eggplant involtini however was extremely disappointing and also the Caprese Salad. Given it was Christmas eve I am willing to give it another go. Highly rate the gnocchis❤️

Lovely staff excellent food. Reasonable pricing for the quality of the the food and service. Quite noisy and could do with some sound reduction baffling. Busy and you need to book

This place is great. Friendly service and excellent home-style cooking. Try the spaghetti mare. There are also a lot of gf options which is great. The limoncello is the best I have ever had also.

I was pretty disappointed with this place as the food is great and I consider it a local gem although the waitresses on the night we went treated us terribly. We were ignored all night we continuously had to wave and yell excuse me for service but even then they still continued to ignore us. They would try to avoid any eye contact and would ask every other table except ours if every thing was ok even though we were waving and asking for service. At one point they saw us waving and just turned around and walked the other way. The worst part is we can’t even blame it on them being busy as the restaurant only had 4 tables that night. I will never come back here again and I will make sure to tell all of my friends and family. We wanted to order dessert but of course they continued to ignore us so we just ended up leaving because of how rude they were. Totally unacceptable customer service

L'olio is one of my favourite places to eat. The home made gnocchi is on par with the best I've eaten and I'm yet to try a gnocchi variety there that I don't love

The staff in general are friendly but we have had minor (definitely minor) disappointment at the service there on occasion. Everyone says hello to you on the way in and goodbye and the way out though and so overall I rate the service fairly high.

The desserts are good, not amazing but good. It's the Gnocchi that keeps bringing me back though and it's worth it for that alone.

The averages favourite dishes: Gnocchi Zola for her and Beetroot gnocchi with feta, walnuts and burnt butter sauce for him

Reasonable variety of drinks

Dishes to avoid: the average kiddo did not like the kids chicken tenders and on tasting them dad agreed with her

I was just here last night. We order the crab and the mushroom gnocchi also the caprese salad and arancini. The was great. The disappointment was
The seating areas, there isn’t enough soft furnishing so the room really echos and is very noisy and which is annoying if your trying to be social

Delicious meal and dessert, softest gnocchi's, and the Creme brûlée was devine! Good looking local spot and will definitely return again and again

Great dining experience. Italian food at its best. Very good service. It's pricey, but still worth it! Highly recommended for special occasions.

I've been coming to L'olio since 2010 - I first fell in love with L'olio when I first took a bite out of their fluffy cloud like gnocchi that just melted in my mouth, their Ragu sauce takes me back to being a child and watching my Nonna make her homemade gnocchi and Sugo down in her cellar. Since that moment I have continued to come to L'olio for the past 7 years ordering the same dish everytime - obviously along with many other dishes. Although I have watched the restaurant change and grow, Melissa has kept the love for Italian food and her passion behind this restaurant the same.

Comfort food that always brings a big warm smile to my face. And the key to enjoying everybite DO NOT SHARE YOUR GNOCCHI !

Follow my insta @burgersnbikinis

I always thank my lucky stars that my fave Italian restaurant is just a mere minutes drive from my house. Located on a small row of suburban shops, you'd never expect such amazing Italian fare to be tucked away in a quiet corner of Smithfield. Once inside you feel a million miles away - with nice mood lighting, sleek interiors and an open kitchen where the scent of truffle oil wafts out over the restaurant. It's cute, cosy and even a little romantic.

I have been coming here for years now and the food never disappoints! This place holds the crown for my hands down favourite gnocchi in Sydney, the gnocchi Zola. Perfectly cooked gnocchi in a Gorgonzola cream sauce with onion and Parmesan. I'd die for this dish. It is that good.

The menu has been redesigned with a sharing style - however you won't get me sharing that gnocchi ever. Some other good share items however are the mushroom arancini, and the haloumi bruschetta. It's bruschetta but the bread is replaced with haloumi. Bloody genius!

There's also a huge range of other gnocchis, pastas, pizzas and sides. And if you have room they also do solid desserts. One of the best creme brûlées I've tasted.

A local gem.

Saz - burgersnbikinis xx

Only 2 reasons for me to go to Dublin St when I was living in Sydney. The Chinese take away place and here. It's run by real Italians who knock out consistent quality. Gnocchi was always a winner and when I was in the area recently for a short trip, I went back. We had the Gnocchi and a pizza and weren't disappointed.

You're spoilt for choice when it comes to Italian food in the area to be honest and this place is well worth checking out.

L'olio is a quiet little eatery a few shops down from Giotto Gelato.

The fit-out is sleek and staff very friendly.

With so many Italian food joints in the area, it was always going to be hard to standout from the rest. Unfortunately, the food at L'olio isn't the greatest. Pastas were a little oily and the Pizza a bit too soft. However, it was good to see the selection of gnocchi on offer - haven't been to many places that explore the concept.

L'olio is very reasonably priced, particularly when compared to the likes of Grano and Il Piatto - two restaurants I consider to offer the same quality food as L'olio.

Overall a nice little find. Could improve in the food department, but a good experience.

Good local italian. Contrary to other reviews, the service was fast, nice and friendly. We ordered the aranchini, garlic prawns, l'olio pizza and the penne bosciola. The pasta was not the best I've had but the pizza was definitely the highlight of the night!! In terms of price it was approximately 28 dollars per person, quite good value.

I visited here having heard about their infamous gnocchi and boy did they deliver! It literally melted in my mouth. We had the gnocchi with crab meat. For entree we had scallops and arancini which were also delicious. The restaurant is relatively small and the back room was spacious but cool - bring a cardi! Would definitely come back again and would recommend that you visit!

So so.... Lovely food and fun night, but the waitress was a bit rude.
The back room was spacious, but noisy and cold.

Best Gnocchi. I'm not a fan of gnocchi normally however L'olio's take on the dish has made me change my mind. Their white chocolate creme brulee is also delicious!

On a small street........... It's a small place hidden in a small shopping centre. Its clean and tidy with nice decor, and there is another section at the back which is separated with another glass door, I believe for private functions. The food itself was ok, gnocchi was a little oily and the pizza crust was better than expected.

The service is friendly and helpful and do give you a rough time on when the food was going to be ready. They gave asked if I need take away cutlery which is always a plus to me. Many, many places don't give it even when you say takeaway. Value, its what you expect and reasonably priced

And if you don't like the food, there is a gelato place a few shops away!
