Review Smiths Beach General Store - Smiths Beach

This place used to be fantastic. It used to be the best lunch and coffee place on the island. It was taken over a while ago. And I so want to like this place now. I’ve been a few times now and I’m consistently disappointed with the quality of my order and leave with a gaping dent in my bank account. The new owners are pushing local produce (I’m absolutely in support of this) with lots of vegan/vegetarian options. However… The prices are astronomically high for very average products at best. And coffee drinkers be aware - the take away cup is the biggest I’ve ever seen. To reiterate, happy to pay a premium for local produce, but it’s good to be good and worth it.

Reasonable quality of food and supplies, though fairly high price for what it is ($15 for granola in a plastic cup and $15 for a small loaf of sourdough) but the let down is service and attitude. I’ve visited a few times but each time staff seem preoccupied and uninterested (at worst I’ve been ignored, at best my food order has been forgotten/lost).

Convenient location. Nice, fresh and tasty food however but because of their pricing (e.g. $18.50 for a piece of flake and chips),I will not be frequenting this store again. Unfortunate.

Great spot for a coffee and breakfast before a walk on the beach.

It’s a shame this place doesn’t deliver, when it is in such a great spot and has a good range of food, produce and coffee offerings. Over-priced, inefficient service and none of the staff where masks. Would recommend going into Cowes instead, at least until this place decides to up its game. Disappointed!

Great fit out of shop but unfortunately service is to slow especially on coffee. Gone way to far on trendy food, and not catering for the norm anymore. Get the display cabinets full again of instant hot food Especially for the kids . ( bucket of chips) ready made burgers etc and they will double there buisness. Having a massive line out the front doesnt mean your busy

Friendly service, very decent coffee. BLAT is on the lighter side but still a good accompaniment.

Order a beef burger and small chips. I waited 28 minutes until I received my food, whilst in the meantime many orders of chips went out, making me think there was some kind of holdup on the burger patty or something, hopefully it will be good! As soon as I bit into my decent looking burger, I was disappointed. There was a lack of sauce, the only thing I could taste was the juice from the tomato/the patty. The lettuce was too thick with the white parts and parts of it were good and others were far too crunchy and flavourless. The patty was properly undercooked. It was a purple in most places and pink in some, and you could tell from its perfectly flat nature that it was a store bought burger patty. So much more disappointment brewed in me I felt the urge to litter outside their restaurant. I have to admit, the venue of the restaurant is very good, the place looks nice inside and the staff were pretty friendly, however I was no way going to send back my uncooked burger only to wait another 30 minutes! I dined with other people, and out of them, 2/5 had undercooked burger patties with very little sauce, 1 of them had a lukewarm smoothie (they didn't have frozen bananas, but couldn't put ice in?) And all of us had to wait between 20-30 minutes for our food. The prices are far too high. $20 for a mediocre burger and a small chips is too expensive, I learnt that if you want that, just order the kids meal as it is the same size burger without the tomato and lettuce, and it comes with chips for $10?? Also $12 for a smoothie???? Unreasonable. I wouldn't go back unless I was forced to, and I would probably prefer to have a panini or a toastie instead, surely you can't mess that up right...?
