Fantastic lunch! Great service and location. The food was amazing from Shoe string fries with rosemary and aioli to a delicate calamari entree to Scallop ravioli with crisp leeks and pumpkin salad. The ice cream was to die for, a burnt caramel and fig and a rocky road. Great interesting decor right in the middle of Sofala. Well worth the drive!

At long last Sofala has a world class eatery, we visit this little 1850's gold town on a regular basis and would normally drive into Rylstone or Bathurst for a meal or coffee, but not anymore. Painted Horse Cafe for fabulous food and coffee as consumed today by Jan, Garry, Bob and Di.

What a find!! Pastries cooked on site each morning (I asked) Vanilla slice (with passion fruit icing, I had!) But the lemon curd tart looked delicious, and the fat scones would have been equally as good! The coffee was so good! I learned it was Bills Beans blend, The Godfather, I think. We also had bacon and eggs!! Don’t drive through Sofala without a quick drive up the quaint street. They had eftpos, and phone service, which was great after no service through the hills! Youllit

What a treat! Brilliant cafe! Food and coffee - fabulous. Truly the best coffee we've had for a very long time (locally sourced beans - so fresh). Fun service with lots of local knowledge. Obviously the staff love their trade! Can't wait to get back there.

Dropped in for lunch on Saturday 12 May, I had the special of the day being Asparagus, poached eggs and shaved Parmesan on home baked sourdough. Cooked to perfection! My wife had the scones with jam and cream. She said they were amazing and was so impressed with the jam that we bought a jar. Fast service and friendly staff. Will be returning for sure

Great cafe in old historic town of Sofala. A lot of work has gone into this place and it looks great. Lots of old mining equipment artfully put on the walls, beautiful cafe dog who is in sectioned-off part and is very friendly, and great seating of beautiful old timber. Menu is well priced, with both food (breakfast, brunch and lunch) and drinks available. Beef burger is very well done, with a true homemade patty. Some specials available that you wouldn't expect in a place like it, Thai green mango salad with prawns for example. Very accommodating staff to difficult EFTPOS situation, when their system was down after a storm the day before.

Such a creature of habit. Been 4 times and have not made it past the sliders and the beef burger. The sliders were stunning and the burger is one of the best I’ve ever had - and that is saying something! Did I mention the shoestring fries? These ladies know how to cook. Great coffee as well. A fantastic little gem in a sleepy hollow town. Service is great as well. Well worth making a detour for if your travelling in the central west.
