Review White Salt - Sorrento

Kimberly Satiah
Booking was straight-forward; surprised and thankful to get a table on a Saturday evening on short notice. Service was good from the time we entered until we left even though the place was busy. Staff were attentive and friendly!! Reasonably priced meals and good servings, meat and fish were cooked to our liking. I still think about the pepper sauce.. đŸ€€đŸ’ Overall a lovely evening, with a view of the sun setting over the beach.

I just had the gluten free truffled gnocchi , and my partner had the pork "Boston butt" & pork bites. I'll quote him " - I don't know what's going on with this pork, but it's absolutely amazing!" Some of the best meals we've had on our two weeks holiday in Perth. Would definitely recommend. Thank you

I love this restaurant. Lovely view of the beach and delicious food. Will definitely go again.

DON’T COME HUNGRY or expect speedy service! I think the waitress lost the order initially. We waited over 25 minutes for entrĂ©e and we were the first to order with minimal people in the restaurant.... staff didn’t want to look at you and avoided eye contact. NO communication from remaining staff or the owners/management as to the delay or a courtesy to say there was a delay. The best is yet to come – keep reading. What was good? The arancini balls were full of flavour and the calamari was actual REAL calamari also with lots of flavour and not the deep fried stuff we have all seen previously. The view and ocean glimpses were nice too. Credit where credit is due

.. Uh oh, now the other bit. Not only did management/owners fail to acknowledge a delay initially, when they did after being prompted, they threw their own staff under the bus with varying stories as to why. WOEFUL! One manager/owner was on her phone oblivious to the hungry customers and the other who decided to ignore the customers when there was clearly an issue. No “Apologies, we are short of staff due to covid, so there will be a slighter longer wait for meals – we apologise in advance”. NOTHING. It looked like the regulars were looked after well. When she returned, no eye contact and very much brushed it off in the nano seconds she was there but managed to have a dig at the young staff on the floor. Many people were grumbling and when the food came out, however as many were hungry and waited longer than an acceptable long period, food disappeared quickly. Well, most of it. Our mains came out an HOUR after we ordered them, despite being one of the first to order. The Barramundi looked great and reasonably priced considering the location. The Fish curry – DON’T BOTHER. It is horrid, bland, and way overpriced. The fish (at least I think it was fish, it was hard to determine what it was) was overcooked, minimal and the potato far outweighed the ‘fish’ which was a disappointment to say the least
It looked like something out of a jar and no real flavour to it
apart from the fresh green chilli and coriander identified. I couldnt stomach it, so I left it after a few mouthfuls. Management/owners knew that many were unhappy and they did not ask “How were your meals?”. Perhaps this was a good thing. What hurt the most, we had to pay for the above privilege and it was a birthday
happy birthday to me! See pic for reference.

Had a Lunch date with a dear friend yesterday and we enjoyed every minute. The food was delicious and so reasonably priced. We started with bread and dips and we both had the King Prawn Risotto, Yum! The staff and ambience were great and love being by the ocean. Will definitely be returning. Thank you all for such a pleasant experience.

My wife and I recently visited White Salt for dinner. The service was both friendly and professional and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. The happy hour is a real bonus and the meals were delicious, fish and steak and reasonably priced. A must try is the garlic bread. The view to the ocean as the sun sets is superb. We will be back.

Staff was very friendly. Was busy but they still found a place for us. Food was reasonably priced, but of good quality. They really seem to take pride in what they are serving. Waiters were attentive but not excessive. Ambience was good, and felt like a good place to have dinner. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be going again.

Good view that’s it. Wine warm, food below average, service
..now that’s the kicker!!! When staff bag out other staff about their lack of cash counting skills you know you are in for a treat. Yelling drink orders at other staff is not appropriate. Maybe it’s time to re-think your “front of house” staff and decor. It’s been 7yrs since our last visit and nothing has changed
won’t return until under new management

We went their for dinner while down in Perth, was the best service and food I have ever received our waitress was more then amazing would recommend this place to everyone will definitely be coming back!! Was a good change from Kalgoorlie

A great evening with family from Singapore, everyone loved the food, but disappointed that the crispy skinned salmon, which I'd recommended, was not on the menu. Substituted with a Barramundi which from all accounts was disappointing & mushy. My wild mushroom pizza was over salted & I woke next morning with a screaming headache & an unquenchable thirst. The staff were amazing, but stop playing with the menu, when you have an amazing dish keep it on there. It's what your customers want.

Well I found this amazing place a few months ago and been here few times since, every time I have come it's been busy with a great atmosphere!!! Service and food have been of high standards, staff very attentive and friendly!! Honestly best restaurant in and around hillarys/ Sorrento area!!! Highly recommended.

Yummy Breakfast last week so thought we'd try dinner - absolutely faultless seafood platter - 3 courses on a 2 tiered platter. The"White Salt" Shiraz very nice, & cudos to the wonderful waitresses on both visits.

Had lunch here with my hubby, staff were friendly, I had the sweet potato gnocchi which was nice only criticism the mushrooms were a little bit over cooked, my hubby had the steak sandwich which I tasted it was delicious best I’ve had, we don’t normally have desert but glad we did as the sticky date pudding was delicious 😊

Very very disappointed. We came to White Salt for dinner for an end of year mother’s get together. We were super excited as most of us had been to White Salt previously with a positive experience. Ohhhh, how wrong we were. We had a table of 12.....most were unhappy with their dishes. The salt and pepper squid tasteless and was more pepper, no salt at all (I had to add my own)...the prawns, just passable, the sweet potato dish...tasteless. Add to this that the staff had asked us to “drink water for the next half hour” for a reason they could not give other than “we have a responsible service of alcohol”. To put it in perspective readers, we were a group did (around) 40yo mothers from a local school celebrating end of term. We’re we unruly? No. We’re we falling over chairs and making a mockery of ourselves? No! Half of us left at 9pm!! Massive disappointment White Salt. MASSIVE. We, individually or as a group, will not be back. Word will spread. And also, your staff weren’t doing you any favours to help the situation either.

Four us dropped in here for brekky, as our first choice at a place in North Beach was packed to the rafters. So glad we did, good breakfast, good service better view and a lot quieter in atmosphere. 😀
Alison Blackbourn
Worst chicken salad ever. I ordered it on Uber eats and it was freezing cold chicken, previously I ordered it and the chicken was proper chicken breast and it was warm! This was some sort of chicken resembling dog food, full of fat and gristle and I ended up throwing out most of it, leaving me 55g of something disgusting on a salad for $29.95! I will never be going back.
Debbie Ann Fraser
The food was amazing guys New menu and it was excellent We enjoyed our meal Staff are warm and welcoming No rushing around or trying to take your plates before you have finished Definately be back
Patricia Cinalli-Abbonizio
We had the Salt and Pepper Squid, Beetroot and Pear Salad and the Truffle Fries with Parmesan Cheese between two of us. The serving was very generous and the food came out quite quickly, the staff were friendly as well. Definitely going back again.
Deb Fraser
Dinner Thursday night with three girlfriends. Service was terrific, food was super tasty, coffee the best I'd had in a while, and omg the sticky date pudding is to die for. Yum! Thank you.
Todd Briggs
Great food and great service. Parking is a bit wierd with BWS and the pizza joint claiming it all and threatening a tow away zone. We just parked at the Sorrento Community Centre.

White Salt in Sorrento is a beach cafe in a nice position where you can look out on the ocean. I have been here for evening meals quite a few years ago, but decided to give the cafe a go for breakfast. The first thing that we noticed was the service, it wasn’t really happening, and despite booking in advance, we stood at the reception area for a good five minutes before anybody acknowledged us. Eventually we were seated by the window at a good table, but slightly let down by the grubby appearance of the window area and the sticky table. Tables need a good clean between guests, not just a cursory wipe, and it wasn’t very comforting to have a sticky table.

Sent back the squid and chorizo with chimchuri because the flavour of the sauce was soo wrong (I normally love chimchuri) the chorizo was all end pieces. Walked out on our mains because the “laksa” was thick (like a gluggy cream sauce rather than a soup) pale and lacking flavour and oddly only had salmon 2 muscles. Laksa had undercooked Hokkien noodles in it. So disappointing. Arranccini was lovely. Seems they cannot cook outside of the pub food realm. Fish tacos were also very basic (fish not specified ) also turned out to be a flavourless mix of salmon and corn. Very basic.

I certainly wouldnt recommend White Salt.  The food is average.....like a home cooked meal but at restaurant prices.  The steak not what i would expect when ordering Porterhouse at a restaurant. The chips......tasted like the chips you buy at a school fete.  The salad was nothing special and drinks over priced.  The squid and Chorizo entree was watery and the squid clearly imported frozen crap.  Not impressed and wont be back.

I've been a regular at the Salt for a couple of years, wending my way up the freeway from the other side of the river to enjoy many lazy mornings with wonderful service, company and breakfasts by the sea. But this time, my companion and I arrived just too late for breakfast and so enjoyed a lunch. I had the slow cooked lamb with mustard mash and greens which was sumptuous and with a delicious miso vinaigrette. I followed this with, what I expected to be, a bog standard sticky date pudding. How wrong I was: the pudding was moist and mouth watering with a taste of chocolate; a dash of crĂšme fraĂźche to balance the sweetness; and finished off with a medley of carrot shavings and stringy battens. This was a completely unexpected triumph of a dessert, with beautifully balanced subtle flavours and wonderful textures; a dessert that I'll remember for a while. <br/><br/>My companion was also well satisfied with her roast beetroot salad which she followed with a delicious Coconut CrĂšme Caramel. <br/><br/>This was already one of my go to destinations, well on this Friday, they elevated themselves to a favourite destination

Had the surf and turf special with my husband. Steak was well prepared. Lovely meal. The service was friendly and excellent. Enjoyed the experience.

Went for lunch with my wife yesterday, we both ordered the chilli prawn pasta.<br/>It was excellent, the best pasta dish I have had for a long time
J_ZEats
J had prawns and avo salad with corn chips, a light and fresh dish with plenty of prawns. We didn't realise this is a cold dish. Not sure it was worth the prive point but we had a voucher so it made it worth it. I had fish and chips, a good standard staple. We both enjoyed the meals & service was great.

3.5 rating. <br/><br/>6 of us had a booking for brunch on a saturday morning. service by the 2 young ladies was lovely. smiley, helpful, and patient with us taking ages to make an order (we hadn’t seen some of the people in the group in years so we were busy yakking away!). there were a few groups in as well but it there was plenty of space and we didn’t feel rushed at all throughout our meal. <br/><br/>coffees were good, with some ordering a second cup. <br/><br/>i had the sweet potato and quinoa hash with bacon, a poached egg, spinach, and hollandaise. the ingredients were generous, bar the hash which was rather tiny and more like a frittata than a hash. the dish also came with plenty of tomato chutney which was yummy and went well with everything on the plate. the other people ordered a variety of other dishes, with 3 people not being able to finish their meals. no comments were made by them about their food other than the portions being large, so i can’t say much about the taste of those dishes (chilli chorizo scrambled eggs, normal scrambled eggs with add ons). they barely touched their meals though. <br/><br/>overall it was a lovely morning with great service and what i had was nice. together with the entertainment voucher it was a good deal. <br/><br/>just know that you won’t get a view of the water because directly in front of the restaurant as massive shrubs blocking the view!
Huge Perthonality
We used a scoopon and were very disappointed, we were served a warm glass of Sav Blanc, an entree platter of popcorn chicken, bread etc, the popcorn chicken was undercooked and not edible. Our mains were very average too, my salmon was not fresh and the mashed potato it was served with was hard chunks of potato with mustard seeds. Excellent location but disappointing food.
Bob Frederick
We went for lunch today and started with a vegetarian platter, which consisted of beetroot, pear, walnut and rocket salad, crunchy bread, balsamic vinegar, olives and an assortment of dips.  The food was well prepared, fresh, tasty and amazing value.  For mains we both had fish and chips (barramundi) which came with a slaw salad.  The fish was fresh and well cooked and the chips crunchy and delicious.  The owners, Clare and Tim were attentive and welcoming and we will definitely be back soon.

The service here is very slow. The waitresses are nice enough, but the food takes an extremely long time to cook, and when it's done, they "decorate" it with these disgusting morsels of, dare I food. <br/><br/>Please don't come here.
Will15
We came here for breakfast and had a very enjoyable meal. I like the variety of meals on offer and that they were a little different. I had the quinoa hash with bacon, spinach and hollandaise sauce. Would definitely return for breakfast.

Nice atmosphere and location. <br/><br/>Food was pretty average pizza was soggy and lemon lime bitters was flavourless. For the price your paying it’s a big let down.

The salt and pepper squid tasteless and was more pepper, no salt at all (I had to add my own)...the prawns, just passable, the sweet potato dish...tasteless. The garlic bread was oily and tasted like cardboard (disappointing as who doesn’t love garlic bread!!) <br/><br/>Add to this that the staff had asked us to “drink water for the next half hour” for a reason they could not give other than “we have a responsible service of alcohol”. A friend and I sat outside in the sunshine midweek after work, which was nice. There were quiet a number of people in the outside part at the time having a drink as well. Service was a bit poor, abrupt and non friendly. We shared truffle and Parmesan chips, which were oily and average. Overall experience = a let down. <br/>

Dinner here tonight was one of the best meals I've had in ages. Service was excellent - very attentive. Started with a huge delicious brushetta to share foll'd by fantastic barramundi on a tasty bed of fennel and capsicum sauce.  Finished off with a supurb creme brulee with a berry compote.  EXCELLENT!!
Perth Eater
Food was good, service was just OK. Steak only came with red wine jus, no other sauce option. Garlic bread came out a long time after our mains were served. We were not asked if we wanted any veg or sides with our mains.

So me and my wife went to white salt for a scoopon seafoof platter for 2 voucher.<br/><br/>We have been to white salt in the past and had no issues.<br/><br/>We arrived and did not print the voucher by accident because most places can use the smartphone.<br/>The manager was very direct and rude pointing out the lime that says print the voucher right in front of my face.<br/><br/>We then emailed the voucher to his direct email.<br/><br/>So now its food time.<br/>Firstly we were advised theat they had run out of oysters for the platter (on a thursday when it was not even that busy). If you are going to offer the seafood platter dont run out of the most expensive thing on that platter.<br/><br/>Anyway we asked for extra prawns instead.<br/>So the platter came out and jesus what a let down.<br/>The praws literally tasted lime they had been sitting in fresh water for 24 hours and every bite was was a mushy mess. The salt and pepper squid was not bad and then for good measure they threw on some packet smoked salmon.<br/><br/>I will never be going back here again.<br/>No matter who comes to a restaurant voucher or not, the point is to encourage people to come back and advise to others how good it was.<br/><br/>Poor game white salt

We went here today for lunch. Expensive meals and drinks, not impressed with food. Won't be rushing back. Service was friendly.<br/>Warm chicken salad was served with cold dry chicken, despite the name. Salad was served undressed with a very small 10ml balsamic reduction on the side instead of a proper dressing. Having thick sticky sweet balsamic instead of a dressing was like having a spoonful if sugar on the side of a cold chicken salad. <br/>Hubby had the scrambled eggs, served somewhat cold, eggs had hardened and were not tasty, the vegetable tagine was ok. <br/>We attempted to order sparkling water, they had none. Then got pepsi max -$4 for post mix 150ml glass! They have bottled pepsi but that also was not available.<br/>We went next door (Voyage kitchen-always good prices, food and service) for coffee as we were not impressed!

Waitress (Hannah) was pleasant and very obliging, restaurant is nicely aspected but the air con <br/>wasn't coping. Tables were clean but the restaurant overall was not clean and there were lots of flies around. Food was average; lamb was requested to be done rare- it was overlooked but the waitress reported this to the manager who offered a free dessert as compensation. The steak too was over cooked . My salmon was delicious although the menu advertised that it was served with asparagus, there was none on the plate. The gnocchi was excellent. <br/>Beautiful outlook; pleasant service, average restaurant
Mat
Turned away today because apparently they were too busy? They said they didn't have anywhere for us to sit (half the place was empty!!!) and they said that they are understaffed today so they can't run the restaurant like they normally would and the wait would be 20 minutes before they could take a booking (meanwhile we were at the restaurant! Beyond ridiculous. Won't be going back.

These guys are lucky they got the view of the ocean because the food is nothing to brag about. I got the squid and it was the most boring food I've ever had.<br/>I would rather chew a raw gone off prawn than eat here again. When I told them I didn't like the squid that I only had one bite of and then spewed it back into the plate they laughed about it. Take your worst enemy here. The 1.5 rating is for the view <br/>
David Parolo
Had wonderful meal for two which included entres of salt and pepper squid and salmon tart and both excellent. Service was great. Mains were also very tasty and ample. Once mains finished was asked if wanred to see deserts menu and we said yes with intention of having sweets and coffee. But after 20 minute wait and being ignored paid and left. Sad about the poor service at end ruined the experience.

Lunch with friends today. Nothing to complain or rave about. Pricey for what you get. Wouldn't rush back. Will try other restaurants in the area.
Gaylene
Live in the area and bought a Groupon voucher to try the restaurant for future reference. Very disappointing. The voucher offered 2 breakfast choices - only one was available. Service was painfully slow and food ordinary. I told the waiter we had a voucher. We were offered coffee, juice and 1 breakfast option. At the end I had to pay for coffee (not that I mind paying for coffee) but I felt the voucher was misrepresented, as coffee was not included. I won't be back.

Went there for an impromptu lunch today with my Mum and was met by friendly owner Tim who showed us to a table with best view in the house-very lucky timing! <br/><br/>Tim recommended the sweet potato gnocchi- with pork ribs and pulled pork brioche in competition on the menu this was a tough decision. We trusted Tim and both ordered the sweet potato gnocchi which came in an amazing creamy garlic sauce with smokey chorizo, cherry tomatoes and shaved mushrooms. I wish I had taken a photo. I can confidently say this was the BEST gnocchi I have ever tasted, the sweet potato gnocchi were light fluffy pillows which left both of us raving and congratulating each other on making such a great choice. We will undoubtably be back to order this again. Our waiter Jack was also very helpful and suggested the delicious light and crispy churros with chocolate sauce and raspberry sorbet for dessert, we were thrilled, what a great finish to a beautiful lunch. White Salt is a friendly family run restaurant located beach side serving fabulous food. I am looking forward to my next visit already to relive that hearty sweet potato gnocchi goodness and divine sauce! Thanks White Salt, we really enjoyed our afternoon, your food was faultless.

This place seems to be living on its previous reputation. A very disappointing family breakfast. The staff appeared completely disinterested and the food was less than ordinary. Breakfast brushetta consisted of a mushroom, two halves of half cooked tomato, a bit of rocket and pesto on dry toast. Yuk. The sunrise breakfast could have been cooked and presented better by my kids. The waitress took my barely touched plate without even a query as to why it wasn't eaten. I was barely spoken to as I paid the overpriced bill and when I did eventually get a vague, "How was everything?", my polite comment that my meal was not very nice was met with a grunt and a shrug of the shoulders. With so many amazing amd creative breakfast venues, White Salt is not worth the drive to get there and unworthy of the fabulous views.

Invited back to White Salt after a 9 month hiatus. About 9 months ago we visited White Salt for breakfast. They won the Gold Plate award in the breakfast category so we were expecting great things but the food let down the prime beach side location.<br/><br/>Headed by a new head chef and simplified menu, we were invited to give White Salt another go and they have definitely lifted their game. The chorizo and spring onion scrambled eggs was full of flavour, simple yet effective. The chorizo was really nice. The meatball dish was a special. Pork meatballs in a rose sauce with ricotta, fried egg and baguette. Meatballs were tender and it was a great hearty dish for winter. <br/><br/>Service was friendly and efficient.<br/>
Mitch Concanen
Great food, atmosphere and service. The owners Tim & Claire always make you feel welcome and at home with an excellent group of staff. Fantastic Chefs who put a lot of care and thought into the food and menu.

Went for lunch with friends.  Had been told it was a good restaurant with a reputation, but for what?  Perhaps I should not have listened to other people.  We did get a table by the window as requested, but not a view over the ocean, it was a side window into something else.  Ordered two bottles of wine, which came fairly quickly and poured by the waiter, however after that he never again picked up the wine bottle, we had to help ourselves.  As for the food, a little off this place, perhaps it was because of the mid-week lunch.  Here's a tip for the kitchen; I know there were two aging people with us for lunch but they are quite lucid, do not have Alzheimer's and were very good company.  The kitchen apparently assumed they were on their death bed because their schnitzel came pre-cut into small strips!  I kid you not!  Overall the food lacks anything at lunch, so we assume that the usual chef (cook) only attends for dinner Thursday to Sunday.  This is another example of a coastal restaurant that trades on its location but offers not much in the way of style or confident cooking, yet the prices match some very superior restaurants in and around Perth city. The only way this is going to change is for patrons to stop going.  We will.  One final point; parking is very tight.  The ones available around a drive-through bottleshop next door are sign-posted as reserved.  We did manage to squeeze into one small spot, but later in the restaurant the waiter advised it was fine to park anywhere around the area.  A little too late!

I went to White Salt on Tuesday night with my best friend and my two children (ages 3 and 6) <br/>We were welcomed as soon as we entered the restaurant and taken to our booked table-at the glass window where we got to enjoy the views and watch the sun set. <br/>We were offered to order drinks and we also ordered the kids meals at the same time. <br/>The kids meals arrived promptly and both kids enjoyed their chicken schnitzel and chips. <br/>My friend and I then ordered the baked brie to share. <br/>Oh my gosh so yum!! Walnuts, truffle oil and pear chutney all went so well together! <br/>We also both ordered the ribs each <br/>Talk about value for money! The meat melted from the bone! Delicious sauce and yummy handcut chips and coleslaw!! <br/>We didn't order dessert, only because we were so full!! <br/>The kids were entertained with the colouring pencils and paper on the table. As were we! <br/>The staff were very friendly and all were smiling and enjoying themselves! <br/>We had no complaints over the evening! <br/>Will definitely go back to White Salt again and again!! I will recommend to my family and friends!!

Found White Salt through Entertainment Book, and glad that we did. I booked online this morning, which looked to be a good decision since the place was pretty much full. Out table for two was ready and waiting by one of the beachside windows. We enjoyed watching all the people, puppies and cool cars going past. <br/>I had the pulled pork on brioche with mustard slaw and chipotle aioli with hand cut chips. This was a great sandwich - the freshness of the slaw balanced the sweetness of the pulled pork very nicely, and the brioche bun was soft and sweet. The chips were crisp and perfectly salted, but not as piping hot as I would have liked. <br/>My husband had try seafood pasta, minus the cheese. He was happy with the large amount of seafood, and the mussels were especially plump and delicious. I tried a bit of the squid and it was tender and cooked just right. <br/>We boldly went on to order desserts and coffees, and we're not disappointed. My skinny latte was smooth and creamy, and my husband's long black coffee was a bit frothy but tasted good. His lemon and passionfruit posset was sweet and refreshing, and the popping candy with cream was a nice contrast. My churros were delicious - hot, crispy, sweet and delightful, and although the chocolate sauce was a little thin, it tasted good. The raspberry sorbet was light and delicious.<br/>Service was friendly, fast and efficient. <br/>All up, including a soft drink and a juice, the bill came to about $106, and then to about $78 after the Entertainment Book discount. We'll go back again for sure.
Mark J
How the mighty have fallen.<br/>Top price for second class dinning.<br/>Chilli muscles minus the chilli sauce. Accompanied by bread without butter. The staff were having a great time, but it wasn't serving customers. Entrees were cold and boring. Expensive rubbish.
Fiona
Came here for lunch after passing it quite a few times and hearing good things. Was quite disappointed. Long wait on Food, food was average and tasted quite bland once it finally did arrive.
Michael Stogner
Had a great dinner at this place. Service was good and the restaurant has an excellent view of the ocean. Seating available inside or outside. We ordered the veal ribeye and salmon. Both were excellent. Only knock to this place is parking is limited. Bus route 243 goes right by the place so easy bus ride from the Warwick or Stirling train station.
Spunkychicken
When we arrived at 7.15pm, there was a table by the window that had just been vacated, and so we asked if we could sit there, rather than the table by the wall. One waitress said that she would check, but she thought the table had been reserved. She never got back to us, and that table sat empty until we left at 8.40pm, quite disappointing really. The waitress that served us was friendly and efficient. The squid was tender and perfectly cooked, the mains were good, nice plump gnocchi and the pork ribs fell off the bone. Will come back if we are in the area.
Raj Kathuria
Terrible and no other word for it. Walked in on Sunday eve at 820pm after booking with Dimmi and we were told that chef decided to close the kitchen at 8pm as there were no other reservations after 8. All websites mention 9pm for last order or closing time. I just couldn't understand that by closing at 8 do they mean they don't entertain walkins? Or if there last booking is at 730. They decide to close the restaurant after that ?unbelievable and unheard of a restaurant closing before closing time due to no reservation. They must make sure that diners are made aware of their crazy policy on closing by advertising that please call the restaurant directly for reservations as we do close early depending on the business.

The food was amazing, the oysters fresh, the lamb cooked pink to perfection, the sparkling chilled and the service very friendly, professional and very attentive as always. The White Salt has very well trained staff, they made our ladies night out very special.
Mike
Most horrible service. There is a reason why the place is empty this morning whilst all around are full. Don't go there, they don't want customers.
Jonathan Kwan
Went to the restaurant for dinner. The view is very nice with the sunset in the evening. Atmosphere inside the restaurant is very welcoming and modern.<br/><br/>The service is pretty good and friendly. <br/><br/>The food is a let down. We ordered the lamb backstrap and the pork ribs. For $37.50 for a main the size was acceptable but the taste was bland. The lamb was grubby, yoghurt was non existent it was a sour cream mess. Dish was not balanced.<br/><br/>Pork ribs the flavour was good and melted off the bone. Carrot side was inedible. The only saving grace was the onion rings which tasted crisp.<br/><br/>For the price $37.50 each for a main and the quality is comparable to pub grub. The atmosphere and the scenery is what you pay for which is sublime.<br/><br/>With other choices or restaurants next door. White salt needs to lift their game as on a dinner only 4 tables were there for the entire night.
Leanne Smith Anderson
Our waitress was very friendly and engaging without being too intrusive which was a great start to the evening! We ordered 5 share plates and were very pleasantly surprised at the quality and generous quantity of food. We had a really enjoyable experience on our first visit here and would definitely come again and recommend to our friends.<br/>
Madelin Kenworthy
We were so put off by a waitresses abrupt rude communication whilst we asked her questions as we attempted to order our lunch. We immediately decided we were not going to stay as we were so offended and took our money elsewhere.
Cake Face
Wow - we were so pleasantly surprised.<br/><br/>The decor and vibe need work for sure.<br/><br/>But the food was delicious. Entrees (Arancini & croquette's) were crisp & delicious, really good contrast of flavours and condiments.<br/><br/>Mains (lamb & veal chop) were delicious.<br/><br/>Desserts (brûlée & cheese board) were also lovely. Brûlée came with frozen berries which was disappointing and the serving size was small. The cheeseboard was quite good but perhaps needed some fruit.<br/><br/>Genuinely surprised and delighted with our meals.

Pleasantly surprised. We went to white salt because we have never been before and after reading aome reviews were wondering if we made the right decision. we got there and were greeted by a lovely waitress that looked after us the whole time, she was very attentive and made recommedations! food was good and prices were reasonable. nice atmosphere both inside and out. would def go again!

Dropped in for a coffee and cake recently. Nice enough but needed CPR when bill of nearly $18 arrived. No wonder Perth prices are a laughing stock. Has obviously caught the big-bill bug from Voyage next door. Nothing special at a ridiculous price.

I dined here tonight for the first time after reading mixed reviews. I had heard how bad the service was, but we had a waitress who was very attentive and supportive when briefly discussing my issues with the dish. "Yes, we have been trying to tell the Chef about these complaints for a while now". Although another waitress delivering our plates thought it best to slam our salad down in front of us before disappearing in a huff. My order was Pork Belly as it is usually a big treat. The succulent pork meat and contrast with the crispy layer of crackling usually accompanied with a caramel-type dressing and vegetable mash. This dish delivered some lovely flavours but I have one strip of pork meat that was amazing. One tiny strip. The rest was layers of fat topped by a layer of skin that was just that, skin. This made eating the rest of the dish a chore due to having to stare at a slab of fat and skin sitting on my plate. Considering 3/4 of the meat on my plate was inedible, I strongly suggest to the owners that you change the name of that dish on your menu, because it certainly not as it should be. Also, I think it important to request that your chef find out what is in a Greek Salad and how much of each ingredient should be in the bowl. I received a bowl of baby tomatoes halved with green under-ripe olives. I look forward to experiencing these two dishes again next month to see whether our constructive criticism is taken on board as I know I am not the first person to be complaining about one of these things. Lots of potential here and a lovely atmosphere. Definitely give it a go and I too hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Went to white salt with another couple. Busy but nice place, friendly staff and who can say no when there is Matso mango beer ;) food is very nice and reasonably priced which is great<br/>

Latest visit:<br/>Me: 'can I have a serve of gluten free bread, please?'<br/>Waitress: 'sure' (brings bread)<br/>Me: is that definitely gluten free?<br/>Waitress: 'yes'<br/>...<br/>Me: 'excuse me... I only ended up here because I was meeting a friend who suggested it but I will definitely be back. 5/5!<br/>

My family and I came here for Mother's Day lunch. For $55 the two courses we all received were absolutely pitiful. The wait staff were very pleasant, the only faults being not returning with a bottle of water for the table and asking if there was anything else we'd like about 20 mins after our dinner plates were cleared and we were waiting on dessert. The owner (I think) was needlessly aggressive. We had been seated in what is usually the best seat in the restaurant however at 2.30 in the afternoon it was the worst seat. He comes over and tells me "I can't control the weather". No need for that, no need. So yes, disappointing and will never return for a set menu.<br/><br/>More establishments should provide feedback forms if it means getting the exceptional service we got here. Service aside, the steak was possibly the best steak I've ever had. Great to see rabbit on the menu too. The venue is a little dated, but the views more than make up for it. Great menu selection.

Went here with my partner today, and ordered the tasting board for 2. Before ordering I did enquire what was on the tasting board and was told some sliced meats, olives, different dips and cheese. We also ordered a serve of chips. When the board arrived I noticed it had bread and had to ask for this to be changed to gluten free. I had apologized to the waiter for not mentioning it but was then told by another waiter I should have said something so they could prepare it. I felt a little awkward as I didn't think it's nessicery to tell them as bread was not mentioned. When the board returned with the gf bread we where very disappointed. The board had prosciutto, ham, salami a couple of olives and some sort of tomato bruschetta mix on the side with a heap of rocket Ontop to hide everything. There was no CHEESE! When we got up to pay my partner did mention this to the same person who said there would be cheese said the boards change daily and there is no set menu. So we paid $60 for a beer a cocktail a "tasting board" and a bowl of chips. Overall a really poor meal and to be honest I can't be bothered writing about the issues we had when trying to order a drink.

Had breakfast with two friends and one of their baby's who is 3 months old and the staff were very accommodating. I had the baked eggs with a side of sautéed mushrooms and it was absolutely delicious! My friends were very happy with their meals as well.

Thought we would give this place a try instead of voyage and it is not worth it. They are missing the attention to details which are needed when I am paying this much for food in an excellent location. We were only a table of 4 but yet one of our drinks was forgotten. Whilst our server did apologise for this it was poor form. We also noticed our second round of drinks sitting on the bar for a long period of time, our server no where to be found. I was almost tempted to go up to the bar and get them ourselves. The place wasn't particularly busy so perhaps they need to put more staff on. The cocktail menu however is divine, and we did enjoy our drinks once we had them.Food was okay but I still prefer voyage.

Large Group Booking - a good night out.. We were a group of 23 & had a fantastic evening this week. The service was great - very attentive but not intrusive - a great waitress. All of the meals were served together, a great menu selection & generous portions with good presentation. Everybody enjoyed their food, no complaints from anyone. Happy with the final bill considering we had a lot to drink, most people had 3 courses plus coffee & the whole evening was a big success - thanks!!

Little Disappointed. Have been here many times in the past and had great meals coupled with terrific service.<br/>Took mum and a girlfriend for lunch on Friday 1st May and wished I had booked another restaurant.<br/>The pulled pork sandwich with sauerkraut was the worst. Thick sliced bread over toasted and dry, could have done with a little olive oil on the bread before toasting to a light golden brown and not charred. Pork needed seasoning as very tasteless. Served with onion rings which also lacked seasoning, and token gerkins not so nice either. Mum left the majority of her food on the board.<br/>I initially wanted the herb and Parmesan crusted veal but was told they had just run out of veal and had to find another menu choice, disappointing! My friend and I had the paprika chicken salad, slightly better but nothing startling.<br/>Service though a different story, fantastic and waitress really lovely. Coffee good and hot. All meals were served quickly so can't fault the service or staff.
Little Chef
Had some of the tapas dishes 4 in all and some garlic bread, all well cooked and great presentation with friendly service too.

Great location, super friendly staff and a complimentary toast and preserves table for breakfast!! Servings are massive (breakfast), albeit a tad overpriced. Would happily return, but maybe share a big breakfast next time.

I've heard alot about this place and so decided to pop in for a light meal & coffee. Fantastic views and staff were friendly eventhough the place was quite busy. Fabulous bruscetta & coffee was great. Will visit again
Foodie From Way Back
Love it most of the time. A great restaurant with great views food and service...usually. Called in for snacks and a drink last weekend. Wine by the glass merlot $9 tasted like cask wine..Cab Sav wasn't much better! Aranchini balls were bland and needed some flavouring. Other than that the pulled pork was fantastic and a burst of flavour on the plate. Brilliant to see a restaurant that welcomes people who just want a quiet drink and a snack in a relaxed atmosphere both inside and out rather than having to have a full meal. Staff have a can do attitude and a smile ... owner varies on that score... <br/><br/>One last thing though smokers need to be moved well away from the outside tables as smoke wafts over the non smokers and their food. Larger signs might help????

Lovely breakfast. Stopped here for breakfast after a Sunday walk along the coast with my girlfriends. Voyage next door was ridiculously busy and i'd been to White Salt previously and knew it was high quality so I recommended that we go to White Salt instead. Did not disappoint. It wasn't too busy, which meant we were seated immediately and our coffees arrived in good time. Breakfast was delicious, we had eggs on toast, baked eggs and banana bread. Staff were also very welcoming and helpful. Everyone was happy and had full tummys in the end and thanked me for suggesting it!
Diner
Only a matter of time before it will close down.... We strolled into White Salt on a leisurely afternoon. The restaurant was about 30% capacity, so not busy at all. Ordered 4 meals. Waited approx. an hour and 45 minutes for our food. Restaurant has a nice setting overlooking the beach, but the following are some of the problems we experienced:<br/><br/>1.) Portions were absolutely tiny and substantially overpriced for what you get.<br/>2.) Food is bland and average at best.<br/>3.) Orders take extremely long, even when the place is quiet.<br/><br/>Save your money and go somewhere else. White Salt is not worth your hard earned dollars.

Not so great experience.. My husband, myself and my daughter came in for what we were hoping would be a nice breaky with an amazing view. We decided to venture here for a change rather than go to Voyage or Soda where we have gone a couple of times in the past. Thought we would give this place a try. Upon entering the vast amount of vacant seating (just 2 tables occupied inside and out) I was approached by a blonde haired waitress who quite rudely asked if we had a reservation? I said no and was asked to sit. I then requested a highchair which she said she would get (her whole attitude throughout our experience was like she really didn't want to be there and that we were just a burden to her). Before I sat I decided to go up and look at the menu that is attached to the wall to which she barked at me "I will get the highchair". On explaining that I was just going to have a look at the menu she again rudely said "I will bring them to you". Great start! So I sat as I was ordered to do and after bringing out the highchair she threw the menu's down on our table and the one next to ours to an equally appalled couple. My husband and I ordered the eggs benedict which was nice but very small and basic. Again table next to us ordered baked eggs which he just starred at when it arrived also in disbelief that that is what you get for the price tag. I will say the food came out fast and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The coffee was so hot even eating the foam off our spoons was close to burning your tongue. Mine was a soy and was just lumps of overheated curdled milk skin on the top so not enjoyable. I was really suprised as this has been known in the past as a great place to eat. Unfortunately we will not be going back again. I hope the management can get it together and make it into a place worthy of it's location.

Went here for a birthday dinner the food was good and portiom size quite big especially for the small bites. Service was a bit slow and we ended up paying 30 dollars for water as we were only offered still or sparkling and we opted for still assuming it was tap water... Nope 30 of water! Other than that all the was really good.

Great lunch today, Morrocan Octapus and lightly battered squid. Followed by the best coffee I've had in weeks. Great place to have a business meeting, too!

Great Service, Great food and what a view. I only joined so I could post a review of how good this restaurant was tonight. From the minute we walked in the service was really good. Waiter seated us and straight away took drinks order. Waitress was excellent and checked on us regularly and without out being too intrusive, so thanks Wendy!<br/><br/>Food was excellent and I was very happy with mussels and beef fillet. Chips were great. My wife was also happy with her meal so I give the place 10 out of 10. The restaurant really had a good feel to the place and it seemed all the staff actually enjoyed working there.<br/><br/>Make sure you ask for window view inside so you can see the ocean as I thought it would be a bit noisy if you were outside.<br/><br/>Thank you<br/>Dan

Great food, great service, great sunset over Sorrento beach. Strongly recommended by all 3 of us, after our impromptu late decision to have dinner on the White Salt alfresco while watching the sunset! <br/>Friendly and classy ambiance inside, casual and cosy outside alfresco overlooking the beach. <br/>Neat, clean place. Great, courteous reception by manager and 2 waiters serving us. <br/>Tasty, well priced and filling dishes on interesting menu:<br/> Chicken Wings starter for my wife, with glass of lemon, lime and bitters... 3/5<br/> Salmon rillette with capers berries for my mom, with additional special request yogurt bread side, and glass of water...4/5<br/>Three juicy chicken tagine drumsticks with yogurt, cous cous, olive and tomatoes for me, with glass of WestCape Howe Riesling... 4/5<br/> Truffle fries with parmesan to share for the table - very tasty! ... 4/5<br/>We did not have dessert or coffee.

As guests of the very close Quality Sorrento Resort we were expecting a discount but it turns out that the deal is that you can book to the room... WTF! Food was nice but way overpriced. We had big tastes = entree and they were charged at mains prices, and not that big. Charged extra for more aoeli ... Ordered a green salad which we later found wasn't on the menu so got a greek salad and charged accordingly. When we got the salad, we commented on how we thought it would have more "green" being a green salad but nothing was said that it wasn't a green until we paid the bill and then found it was a "Greek" salad - so over $13 compared to a $9.50 or so garden salad, which is what we would have had. Not the first time we have had bad experience at this place. Last time was a "psychic" night, which was weird and we were charged for somebody else's meal. Will not be back!!!

Don't bother. Went for breakfast and ordered the Granola with a Latte. The Latte came out quickly in a tiny glass the size I would use for my 3 year old but the Granola took almost 30 mins to be served. I expected freshly toasted crunchy Granola in that time. What came out was a small bowl of toasted MUESLIE with a dollop of cheap tasting yoghurt on the side and some pieces of Watermelon for $18.50!! The Mueslie tasted stale and looked like it came from a supermarket packet (in fact I have had better toasted mueslie from the Supermarket). This was during Xmas holidays and there were only 2 other tables of people where Voyage Kitchen was bustling and spilling out onto the sidewalk....now I know why.

Disappointed!. Attended White Salt for a christmas luncheon. Was very disappointed with our three course set menu. We certainly did not get value for money. Was speechless when the much anticipated pavlova was served. What appeared to be prepacked individual merengue with a dob of cream, two SLICES of strawberry, three slices of banana and four blueberries lined up like soldiers arrived I wish I'd bought along my camera. Lucky for White Salt there are no photos.

Awesome Breakfast. Went here this morning for breakfast and it was amazing! First big breakfast I could not eat! Coffee is also $3 and very good. Will definitely be back!

Very average brunch. After being seated, waited 12 minutes until someone came over & asked our order. Was told the juices would take 15 minutes as they were freshly squeezed, so we ordered a cappuccino & ice coffee. These took 20 minutes to arrive by which time we had already finished our brekky. Weren't told coffees had a wait too, until we paid our bill & were told the coffee machine was broken!<br/>Full brekky came with 1 small piece of hard, cold toast & the eggs benedict (to which I couldn't swap the ham for bacon, no idea why!) was cold & the hollandase sauce bit vinegary.<br/>No pepper on the table or any offer for fresh cracked pepper on my eggs. Maybe as the name suggests they only have salt?

Over priced and underfed. Servings were small, and flavor non-existant. maybe they should concentrate more on the quality of the food rather than the presentation of it...

Food great, service rushed. Went there for a dinner for two on a Thursday night. We had made a booking and was seated after waiting a couple of minutes which was fine. We found the whole service from the two waitresses and one waiter we had was totally rushed and seemed they wanted us served, fed and out the door. The restaurant was only 1/2 full so it wasn't as if they were busy. Small things like not not giving time to read the menu to decide, unable to pour sparking wine correctly, leaning over our plates to refill our glass whilst eating, asking to take plates away as we were just finishing yet still eating, was not the type of service I would expect. Total bill was $190.00 for two which was steep considering poor service. Food was great however.

Went here today for dessert..2 of our ice chocolates came out warm, and our melting moment biscuits were stale and horrible. The wrong size coffee came out aswell. Very dissapointing first time experience.

Terrible!!! We went for a Sunday night meal and the restaurant was half full yet the service was bad, drinks took too long, the bread was stale and 3 of us ordered the $35 ribs and each had totally different sizes. My serving was half the size of everyone else's yet they claimed they were weighed. Not worth the money!!
Bella1212
Just came in for breakfast for a work party and a an absolutely fantastic time!!! The food was amazing as well as the service. The table was decorated with Christmas decorations and Bon Bons were put on the table for us. Thank you so much the staff at White Salt
Charlie
Perfect. My husband and I had dinner for our 10th anniversary here and we had a lovely time - the food was incredible, the service perfect (thankyou Charli, you were an angel) the desserts were divine and the cocktails beautiful. No fault to be found. Topped off with an amazing view! They have a really relaxed, happy vibe but with 5 star food quality and service. See you again soon :)

Sundowners. Popped in for drinks on a warm evening. Lovely atmosphere watching beautiful sunset. Great idea as not many places to socialize with a great view. We have had dinner here before and the food was excellent. We didn't have time to stay for dinner, so just ordered a take-away pizza from the cute place next door.

Great to see white salt buzzing again with the happy hour. Great staff so friendly. Love watching the sunset only downside if you are outside is to prepare for some unsavoury language and smoking right by the main entrance.

Everything - Excellent!. Amazing service and food 10/10 guys - well done!<br/>A busy Friday night - We were given great table, magnificent view of sunset over the ocean. Considering how busy the place was I was initially concerned they may be slow to serve. I could not have been more wrong. Very quick, polite and professional service from all their staff.<br/>Excellent food - I had the swordfish which was very tasty and perfectly cooked & presented. Others had ribs, pork and lamb. All meals were top quality with no complaints at all. <br/><br/>Well done guys!<br/>Keep up the great work, we definately will be back for more great food. :-)

Fantastic service, excellent food. We came here as a farewell for a family member moving interstate. The service was impeccable and thoughtful. The waitress even bought out a complementary desert for the guest of honour. The food was topnotch and they catered for picky eaters happily by subtlely adapting the existing menu. With the sunsetting over the ocean, this was a fabulous meal that will send our loved one off in style.

White Salt is Great. Madi, our waitress was fantastic as was the food

Disrespectful. I ate at White Salt 2 weeks ago. The food was nice and the staff helpful and attentive. However their disabled toilet was inaccessible as it was being used as a storage room. Yesterday a friend experienced the same problem whilst dining there. We have both complained and White Salt management have tried to brush it under the carpet both times. Totally unacceptable.

Happy Customers :-). We've been there a few times and we quite enjoy it. Excellent staff that build a report very quickly, a few characters on the team that we're quite fond of.<br/>The Decor desperately needs an overhaul, I'm not sure what's going on there, it was like the seven dwarfs each got to add their own part of the bar to decorate with rugby jumpers, random paintings, purple disco tiles and fairy lights. <br/>We greatly enjoy the food, the best Ribeye Paul's had in 20 years and finally a place in Perth that can do mussels well. One busy Friday night our tapas taste plate came out in ten minutes and our mains came out 15 minutes after we had finished with out tapas, which we were very happy about. <br/>Lunch and dinner are great, never tried happy hour, but the breakfast seems to be the odd one out. The menu and what they serve is under loved. And no, complimentary toast with packet Vegemite does not make up for it. The idea is nice, but it's tacky in practice. Long wait for a good coffee.
Jen
The service was alright though the waitress dropped my straw and didn't get me a new one. The meals were average especially the chilli mussels. It was the first time I have never had chilli mussels in a bowl of clear fluid, which can only be described as salty water with a few floating chilli and garlic slices. Will not be going there again.
Mallory_concanen
Such an enjoyable experience, the staff were efficient and friendly, coffee and food was amazing. I can't wait to come back!
Bonnieglass95
Great staff, average food. Staff are young and friendly and as attentive as they can be (it's a fairly busy venue). The service is slow, which you could easily forgive if the food was decent, but it was a below average, unfortunately. The tasting plate entree was nice, good amount of food and it was all cooked well, but the contents of the plate change on a weekly or maybe monthly basis, so it may be hit-and-miss depending on which one you get. I had "chili" muscles for main... DO NOT ORDER THEM! The sauce was so salty, it physically burnt my throat, and had I not been spending the remainder of my tight university budget on the meal, I would not have eaten it. I had the chocolate fondant for desert which was nice - would order again. Overall, it was an OK meal for the price, the main really let it down. If I were to go here again, I'd certainly not order the same meals.
Teckboonng
Very rude staff and average food. Went there for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. we had to wait almost an hour between entree and main. When we ask the staff/ manager, she actually said, " look around can't you see we are busy and by the way, you had your entree didn't you. " We were most shocked by this attitude and with the place less than half full. needless to say, we loss our appetite after that remark. To be fair, the food is not bad, however it is at best average. There are many restaurants with better food and much better service that we will happily patronise.

HOT COFFEE and COLD FOOD. Great young staff, friendly and engaging... what a shame they spent most of the time apologising for cold breakfasts. I overheard six (6) tables expressing the identical complaint in the space of 20 minutes! <br/><br/>What's happening in the kitchen? At best, the dishes are sitting on the Pass for far too long. At worst? Some of the items are pre-cooked... my distinctly un-crispy bacon had a rather tired look about it.<br/><br/>Lovely long-black, yummy! :)<br/><br/>"I'm giving it two stars Margaret, what about you?"<br/><br/>"Two and a half for me David"

THIA SQUID AND SALAD. Thai squid and salad was horrible.<br/>Some people like this place but it will a while before we try it again.

The only place for breaky. Every other Sunday my partner and I go here for breaky. The service is always amazing and the staff are obviously happy there as staff retention is great (we now have a favourite waiter!) <br/>The big thing is they make their own hollandaise, my partner is a chef and he won't eat anywhere that doesn't make their own plus they serve bloody Mary's which is a great way to start a Sunday!<br/>On the weekend I dined solo because my partner has started working FIFO, the owner was lovely to me and said I'm always welcome if I need familiar, friendly faces whilst he's away. Hands down made my week.<br/>Great food, great service, great place

One of the most enjoyable afternoons I have spent in a restaurant. As my friend and I were seated over looking a very dark and stormy coast, we let our waitress know we would be "grazing" for the afternoon. She smiled and said, just wave your menu when you are ready for your next order and I will come and take it. She was amazing! Helpful, friendly and made our day a pleasure. We were never once made to feel we should be moving on. We spent 3.5hrs sharing two entrees, some tapas tasters, two mains and one dessert. Every morsel of food was *wow*, beautifully presented, hot where required and perfectly seasoned. And even though there were busy for the full afternoon, there were no delays from ordering to being set on the table. Definitely not a quick cheap meal but I can go to a food hall if that is what I am looking for.
Will.dix43
Mediocre on every level. Take-away coffee bitter but drinkable even though the basic order was wrong.<br/><br/>Hot chocolate waaaaay too milky and tasteless until the last sip which was over powering with cocoa - try stirring it.<br/><br/>Waited 15 mins even though no one else was there.......wonder why?<br/><br/>Is it any wonder next door is queued out the door and no one is in here.<br/><br/>Disappointing on every level - won't be back.
Graemerallen
Becoming a regular here.... Consistently good food here and there's opportunity for both formal and informal dining. There is Little Creatures pale ale is on tap and good wine to choose from. It's not cheap, but Perth's the wrong city if that's what you're after.
Michelle
Staff friendly but.... That's where it stopped. <br/>Food very average and small servings.<br/>Atmosphere not overly inviting.<br/>Disappointing and over charged.
