Had a lovely late lunch here, the quality and flavour of the food was a surprise. My gnocchi was moreish. I was delighted with the flavor of the sauce and generosity of the lamb that accompanied the pillowy pasta delights. My husbands fish was served in a light herb and fennel broth that had great flavor without overwhelming the natural flavor of the fillets.
Best steak I have ever had..melted in my mouth and no waste. My partner had fish pie which was equally amazing. Staff were extremely attentive and explained the menu thoroughly.
Lots of their produce grown in their backyard.

I enjoyed yet another lovely night at Bistro Elba this evening. Service was warm and didn’t miss a beat, wines were delicious, and the little seafood feast we ordered was so good. Our waiter advised the origin of all the seafood when he handed us menus - a further reminder of this place’s attention to detail and care for beautifully fresh and local ingredients. Genuinely one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in ages. Food was brilliant, wine was great and the service was attentive but with the right amount of cheeky fun. If you’re in the area, make a point of going.
Great restaurant! The food was delicious - unique, fresh produce that tantalise the tastebuds. We called in on a Saturday at 5.30 ( had to fill in 45 mins ). The staff were accomodating, friendly and efficient. We shared a cured meat platter and a glass of punch. Looking forward to going back soon!
We ordered delivery as a present for my sons’ girlfriend 30th birthday dinner! They loved the oysters and fish pie especially! The Prosecco and dessert were also a hit! Thank you for helping make her day special and hope we can come to your restaurant one day when things return to “normal”!
A very nice lunch and dinner spot in Sorrento. The food is pretty delicious and its quite a change in food. They are ver original with their type of food. The staff are pretty nice and the food is even better.
The only great lunch and dinner offering in Sorrento. Have been here upwards of 10 times and every time the food is seasonal and delicious. Friendly waitstaff also. Viva la Bistro Elba!

Second time here and was lovely again. Food is wonderful. Well prepared, great flavours and simply presented. We had the rainbow trout special which was chargrilled to perfection served with a delicious almond butter paste. Portions were generous. The service was prompt and friendly. Was worth the drive down from Melbourne and would recommend without hesitation.
The poached calamari was delicious and the kingfish crudo..warm and stylish interior and loverly friendly waiter service. I will be back for sure
We came here on a Monday night with small children. Had to bring our own high chair as they don’t have any.
Prawns, calamari were delicious. Half price oysters were ok.
Mains were outstanding- we had the lamb shoulder. Potatoe side dish are a must!

Entré was amazing (king prawns) and the main I selected was the lamb shoulder. Asides from the sour greens it was a great meal.
The wine and drinks list are outstanding,incorporating local and international selections.
Desert needs to be evaluated, the chocolate eclairs appear to be something purchased from a bakery and was not appealing at all.
Overall a great experience and I look forward to returning.
A great dinner tonight, Blue Cheese Souffle, Rib Eye Steak and Cheese platter. Great meal. Very busy tonight fully booked with no-one able to get in without a booking.
Definitely a memorable occasion for all the right reasons. Food and wine selection was damn fine, knowledgeable and friendly staff topped the night out with friends. We will be back.

I had the roast quince and rhubarb with coconut granola and yoghurt-delicious!! I would definitely order it again!

I've been a frequent visitor to Cakes and Ale since it opened, and have dined here upwards of 50 times for a mixture of breakfast, lunch and dinner. While it does some things very well, and is certainly one of the better restaurants in Sorrento, it is not uncommon for some dishes to just not work at all. It is also relatively expensive for some of the offerings, and while much of the menu changes, some offerings have begun to make the menu look tired in places.
On my last visit I shared a scallop pie with sliced potato as the "crust" which was very good, and coq au vin which was also of a high-standard. Both dishes were around the $30 mark, but had little in the way of accompaniment. My biggest peeve was watching people who came in after us finishing their meals before ours even arrived, and while a close to an hour wait for food maybe okay in a busy restaurant, it is hardly acceptable if other people's meals are able to come out in a prompt manner. Enquiries regarding the tardiness were met without an apology of any sort.
This brings me on to the service which is very variable, ranging from the amateur to the downright rude. Everyone has good days and bad days, but an offhand attitude towards customers is something that people take into consideration when deciding to renew their patronage to a venue on further occasions. There have also been occasions where the staff don't really seem to understand the food they are serving, including those that have been employed for some time.
Nevertheless, Cakes and Ale is a worthy destination in Sorrento, and I for one am very glad it is there - something of an oasis in a veritable food desert, something that surprises me given the well-heeled clientele of that part of the Peninsula.
My all-time favourite moment at this venue was yesterday though. After ordering the coq au vin, when the meal was finally about to come the waitress approached the table and said "let me clear the table for your coq". You just can't pay enough for comedy gold like that. Or maybe I just need to grow up.
Nice and cosy on a cold night. Made to feel welcome and not rushed despite being the last table there. Gnocchi was absolutely delicious. Crab risotto special was nice, very strong rich flavor. Desserts were to die for, we had the creme brûlée and chocolate mousse. Highly recommend.

Located in the picturesque seaside town of Sorrento, Cakes and Ale is a welcoming restaurant boasting flavoursome Mediterranean fare. The interior is cleverly modern whilst retaining rustic and homely characteristics with warm yellow walls and touches of wood. . A perfect match to its location, the dinner menu boasts a great range of fresh local seafood from Dromana.
One of the best places for coffee in the main strip of Sorrento. Perfectly accompanied with some type of custard-packed mini cake that had my taste buds twerking.
Very yummy mussels! Love the fact that all of the "bread" were cleaned properly. Slightly too much alcohol in it to my liking, but others might prefer it that way.
I chose to visit the place after shortlisting it through zomato, and I was quite happy with what I had. Chicken and mushroom pie was delicious (although it took a lot of time to cone to our table) but what really won my heart was the Chocolate and Cabernet mouse with red cherries! It was delicious and simply loved the recipe.
Ambience is good and staff is very courteous, they greet you well as you enter, somehow forget you for a while once you are seated, but serve with pleasure!

I've been here a couple of times since they've opened and the relaxed friendly vibe of this place has always appealed to me. There's greenery where ever you look, think hanging ferns and loads of indoor plants,,,and the dining spaces are nicely tucked away from each other without you really being aware of it. There's an outside courtyard, a large table for a group out the back and a small bar in the middle of the room and plenty of tables scattered around.
The menu is very appealing and I really like that they don't have an unwieldy menu with too many choices. I like to eat what the chef thinks is good!! Today we started off with a couple of Aperol Spritz's and having the choice of eating breakfast until 1pm, one of us had a very satisfying scrambled eggs on sourdough with a nice slab of thick-cut bacon on the side and the rest of us chose lunch items. First up was a very moorish calamari dish with sautéed with smoked paprika, lime and cumin with a sautéed root veggie salad & a Creme fraiche dressing. This was a resounding success with tender calamari with just the right balance of seasoning and juiciness.
Next was a twice baked Mt Martha blue cheese soufflé with a Waldorf style salad on the side, was well executed, though I would have liked a little more of the cream sauce served with it and a bowl of whites crusty baguette would have completed it this dish perfectly.
Overall the drinks, food, prompt friendly service and the ambiance made for a very relaxing Sunday meal with my guests.
I'll be back again.
Best welcome & service. A beautiful blue cheese soufflé, chicken & mushroom pie & a good wine list. A little unseasoned but they provide salt so we could season to our tastes. We were despairing after viewing average menus & feeling quite unwelcome at some food places so thanks Cakes & Ale! You made our afternoon.
What a wonderful find. Great people who really care about you, who are really proud of their food and do their best to ensure that you want to go back. Fantastic prawns,outstanding Slow Cooked Lamb, and a good wine list to boot. Worth a visit.

Probably the best option in Sorrento . Service was very attentive and pleasant. From the kitchen we had a chicken liver parfait that was good in flavour but lacked a bit in tesxture(I love it creamy and velvety) Interesting cocktails !
Yum! Nice ambience and delicious food. I had the lamb shoulder, it was extremely tender and tasty. The blue cheese souffle was subtle in flavour, i would have liked it a bit richer. The prawns were also very good. Overall a very nice experience.
The best affagato I have ever had.... Accompanied with a mouth watering almond liquor and the most beautiful walnut fig slice. Absolutely Devine, will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.
The food and service are excellent at Cakes and Ale. I had lunch here with some friends and everyone was very impressed. You won't be disappointed here.

Came in during a cold winter afternoon. Great hospitality and fast service. Order the special for $35 which have duck, pork , lamb and more oven baked. Simple but nice comfort food. White peach fion and blue berry cake was the high light .
So much to love here. The food is fantastic and the desserts even better. Nice funky little place in Sorrento that's a welcomed addition to the area
Enjoyable Meal!. Highly recommend Cakes & Ale! We booked for dinner with medium expectations but we were pleasantly suprised! Attentive service, knowledgeable sommelier and satisfying food! I ordered 2 entrees of garfish and the special of baked ricotta. The garfish was fresh & well cooked and the accompanying sauce was a perfect accompaniment. The baked ricotta was a little bland and dry and lacked the flavours promised but was pleasant nonetheless. My partner was impressed by the entree of sardines and main of baked snapper with brussel sprouts and my son was well pleased with the lamb shoulder and side of kiffler potatoes.
We finished the meal with a well executed coffee. We left Cake & Ale feeling well sated and pleased with our culinary experience. Highly recommend if you are in Sorrento!

As a regular bruncher along the far Mornington Peninsula, I've experienced many so-so meals and often for weighty price tags. However, Cakes and Ale has just won my favourite restaurant on the strip! Love the decor and that one can sit amongst the indoor plants, it's light and sunny and the staff are super friendly. The menu boasts just enough delicious choices and everything is really reasonably priced, which is unexpected for the area. The bacon is thick cut, everything tastes and looks like real and local food. Oh - and that they are licensed day & night means that you can have a luxurious boozy brunch if you wish! Definitely coming back here.
Love it. This place looks inviting from the street with great natural light and fresh decor. It is well set up and the menu is great for breakfast, lunch or some sweets. My salad plate was delicious, with a selection of two salads it filled me up. We also ordered the meatballs and they were great too. Fresh produce and super tasty!

Fantastic - outstanding!. Rarely do I take the time to write a review but rarely have I had a dining experience like this. I've eaten any many critically acclaimed restaurants and Cakes & Ale is comparable with the very best!
I had the slow cooked lamb, it was cooked to perfection and the accompaniments were superb, my wife had the chicken, it was equally outstanding. The entrees were brilliant, the wine list was extensive and considered and the service was friendly and efficient.

Great food, cakes, wine and ale!. Been to Sorrento several times and am pleasantly surprised to find this little gem in the middle of Ocean Beach Road. Have been there both for lunch and dinner. Would highly recommend it. The pork and pancetta meatballs with goat's cheese, orzo, roasted baby carrots, salsa verde dish is delicious!
For dinner, the goat's curd with black olive and the king prawns in garlic and herb butter went down a treat! Our mains was the snapper - fresh and delightful!
My husband and I loved this new addition to Sorrento and will definitely be back!

Came here for a family catch up on a Friday night. Service was fantastic, they kept our drinks topped up and food was brought out at a good pace. Really enjoyed the free bread and the meatball starter was tasty. We all enjoyed our mains, and shared some desserts. The rhubarb was our favourite but all were yummy! I would definitely go here again.
Casual Elegance / Amazing Food. Set to become a personal favourite this quaint kitchen turns out local produce with flair! I award undying love for the open yet warm, casually elegant space, late opening hours , helpful service, and an extensive drinks list, (cocktails included)!

These guys are totally out of touch with their menu and pricing. $30 for a minute steak and $15 for a rhubarb crumble. Is this because you can smell the sea air outside?
The offer here is dated even though the produce used is of a high quality.

Good Find. Stopped in for a mid week dinner, food tastes fresh and cooked with care. We enjoyed crisp sardines, braised lamb shoulder and the oxtail main. Definitely will return.
Sorrento moves forward. After going to Sorrento for many summers and winter weekends and basically eating at home due to the lack off inventive cuisine offered, I was very pleased to see something new and inviting on the street, Cakes & Ale has interesting wine and a comforting country house feel to its cuisine, If your after an amazing Cassoulet look no further,beautifully paced service of course's , giving the civilised time to chat and soak up the ambience, might go over the head of some off the locals who are used to the chunky chips and tasteless tom tomato salads.... great great sense of that something interesting maybe happening down on the peninsula
Had a wonderful meal with friends here recently. The free range chook was generously proportioned, perfectly cooked and served with a smile! I snuck a taste of my friend's chowder -wow! What an amazing combination of flavour. I could wax lyrical about the decor and wine list too, but you might think me a shill! Can't recommend Cakes & Ale highly enough. Well done.
We had dinner there last night, Sorrento has hit a high, the Panama dining people really know how to get it done from top wine by the glass to exceptional food and fantastic deserts. Well done, coffee could still do with a little work
Great tea (wife had the chai pot), coffee and cake. Eclectic "ale" range from local red hill golden - hitachino Nest white ale. Which was good... However for a place where 1/3 of it's name is ale there should be a far greater selection of 'craft' beers (peroni and Tsingtao don't count) which given the popularity of the craft beer market at the moment surely wouldn't be too hard.
That and the fact the waiter knew nothing about 80% of the beer list. Other than that friendly helpful and tasty.
Yum. Excellent coffee. Potato and Parmesan omelette delicious, although I would recommend ordering something green as a side. The cakes are beautiful. Just what the Peninsula needed.
Delicious breakfast at Cakes and Ale this morning. Beautiful food, friendly staff and a great space. Nice to see something fresh and cool in Sorrento. Also really enjoyed the coffee. Highly recommend!
