Review Mr Morce - Sorrento

Geoff Fieldew
Decor is a pleasant scandi look. Coffee tasted stale, dull and lifeless and probably came from an uncaring roaster. The young lady that served us seemed rushed although the place had only 5 other people in it. To be honest, it was an unexpected poor start to our dining experience. However... The food was lovely! My dining companion had an avocado and salsa verde dish with goats cheese and a side of bacon. It was presented well with lovely flavours. My eggs, bacon and avocado were also delicious.

Excellent handling of food intolerances! I need to eat gluten free and lactose free. The staff knew very well which dishes were suitable for me. I had a good variety to choose from. The Snapper was perfect and the Oysters more than Perfect! The Mushroom Side Dish is very special, loved it! If you could tag each gluten free meal in the menu it would be a plus! Maybe you could have a separate fryer for gluten free stuff only, chips are often a good option for coeliacs, but we can't risk a cross contamination, if something else is fried in the same fat. Great Food, great Wine, great Staff, thank you!

Second time visit here and it’s superb as last time, friendly staff and yummy food. Recommended especially during holiday times when you can’t even find a place to eat as Mr Morce doesn’t locate on the busy shopping precinct

Friendly staff, Nice interior and plating but taste wasnt up to how good it looked. Didnt feel like it was worth the price Same with coffee

Great food, nice room, older crowd. Waiting staff were very casual, which didn't match the high quality food and high prices. However, I am eager to go again.

Super friendly staff, nice cozy place. Ordered oysters and they were delicious.

I enjoyed a beautiful dinner here. The staff were attentive, the food was impeccable, and I love the decor. The only downside would mention is that when it is busy it is extremely noisy. Please do not let this detour you however. Please try and go when it is not a full house if you prefer a quieter meal as the food is worth it. I went in early 2018 so bare in mind, acoustic buffers / alterations could have been added since my visit. It is worth the visit none the less. One of the best restaurants on the coast.

Food and wine all very good waiter a bit over attentive asking if the meal was ok 2 minutes after it arrived. The coffee was good. Desserts excellent. Mains were very good tried the pork, lamb, tuna and steak all very good. Drinks wise we had the Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay and it was excellent.

A friend and I travelled down from Melbourne to eat here last night, and it was definitely worth the drive. A lovely warm atmosphere with beautiful simple, yet extremely tasty food! Jacynta was a waitress for the night and she was very attentive and knowledgeable about all the items on the menu! Thank you for a great night and exceptional food!

Have dined a few times here at Sorrento's newest fine dining restaurant and on these occasions the chefs have excelled themselves on our given food orders. Snapper cerviche, as entree, was fresh and delicious. Lamb was succulent and pink. Duck 'n' grape was juicy and crispy skinned. Eye fillet steak was beautifully medium rare. Presentation, colour and taste have been excellent. Welcome service by floor staff and their overall table service may need additional training, but the chefs, thankfully, pleased us and our fellow diners with a varied menu, side dishes, and gluten free options. Price is comparable to other Sorrento fine dining places. White walls, limestone bar and fireplace set the scene. I look forward to my next stay in Sorrento and food experience at Mr Morce.

Hmm! It was about 4.00 pm & not easy to find somewhere open where we could have a drink & park the car. So we were pleased we could park out the front of mt Morce & order a drink. The drinks were just ok ( far too much cucumber in Pimms & flavour was overpowering. Also didnt think Pimms had strawberries in it & served in a short glass & no mint). We fancied a piece of cake, but only 2 tired choices on counter. I know kitchen was closed, But still couldn't even get a simple cheese plate or similar to Have with our drinks. Staff most disinterested & we'll never go back. We felt most unwelcomed.

Looking forward to a lovley night out, sadley disappointed, staff were too busy on their mobile phones to actually serve us, bought out starters and entree's together, we had to eat very quickly!! main course was horrible, cutlery all bent out of shape, we did have a good laugh at that!! for a restaurant that charges in a higher price range I would not recommend at all. Sorry no stars from us and would not recommend to our holiday visitors.

After having a bad experience (of not being served) elsewhere in Sorrento on Mother's Day with our extended family we decided to try our luck here. We had 12 people no booking trying our luck with a 10:30 brunch. The service was great, meals delicious, great location & lovely customer service. Thank you for making our family outing & Mother's Day celebration so lovely for us all

Best food I've eaten in years, gnocchi was melt in your mouth, steak so tender and chocolate parfait delicious and not too heavy!

My boyfriend and I went down to Sorrento for the weekend on a city break and wanted to sit outside with the dog for brekkie. The food and service at Mr Morse was 10/10. I’d highly recommend checking this place out!

Great food, loved the decor and would highly recommend for dinner. Try the eye fillet, it's amazing and even the broccoli was a delight to eat. We went back the next morning for coffee and were still impressed!

Missing something! Not sure what! Have been used to eating at the Smokehouse so thought we would try out Mr Morse. Thought that the menu was limited and expensive. The staff were not very friendly. We chose two different mains and two side dishes, which were tasty but not very large. Even though we had bought a bottle of wine, when we had finished our mains we were asked by the waitress if we would like to order coffee, no mention of the dessert menu! Sorry not a very good first impression, will not be in a hurry to return.

Such a fantastic restaurant, easily the best in the Main Street! Fabulous excellent quality local wines and superb food. We eat here regularly and have never had a bad or average experience. 10/10

My husband and I recently had dinner at Mr. Morce for our wedding anniversary and were welcomed with a glass of bubbles on arrival. Nice touch... The food was delish, the Oysters were some of the freshest I've tasted and the service was attentive without being too fussy. Would definitely come back and enjoy the arvo sun in the courtyard with a Mojito, which was great PS!

The kitchen was very accommodating considering we got there very late for lunch. The food was amazing and the service fast and friendly. Thankyou for a very enjoyable experience.

Went for a wonder on Thursday morning and came across Mr Morce. It’s away nicely off the main drag of shops but close enough that you don’t have to go too far.
Really nice fit out, minimalistic which is what you want. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff, and we opted to sit outside. Although it wasn’t an amazing day weather wise, I can imagine on a lovely days it would be perfect sitting outside under the umbrellas.
The young waiter we had was so lovely, we didn’t catch his name but a great asset to Mr Morce - he had a really great personality.
I ordered the Avocado Salsa Verde. It was spot on, a decent serve of avo, the salsa verde was made to perfection and the goats curd that was with it balanced the whole dish out. My husband had the acai bowl which he said was great along side the ‘best fresh orange juice ever’. We’ll definitely come back to try the dinner menu. Good work guys!

As far as breakfast cafes go on the Peninsula these guys have got it spot on. Walked in and were greeted by very friendly staff. Sat outside and everything from the cutlery to the decor is fantastic. Had one of the nicest fresh orange juices I’ve ever had and the Acai bowl was also delicious. Highly recommend a visit here

Great food, had a simple breakfast but was done very well, best brekky i had in Sorrento. Service very efficient and had a good family feel about it with owners and their kids helping out.

So wanted to like this place but alas, it was just another bad Sorrento meal. Chilli jam in corn fritter dish was sickly sweet and acted as a 'bed' to the fritter so permeated every mouthful. Everything needed to be seasoned. Also my partner got the dish without the bacon and was charged as much and not allowed to substitute anything else- just creates bad will towards a place. Food took ages to come out- get it, it's a busy cafe at peak of summer but you just gotta bite the bullet and hire more kitchen staff.
I Love Food
Dined here on Sat night. For entrée I had the cured kingfish and hubby had the pan seared scallops. We both enjoyed our entrees – good serving size and delicous combo of flavours. For main I had the smokey lamb ribs and hubby had the spiced lamb backstrap. Again we both enjoyed our mains. My lamb ribs were tasty and the meat fell off the bone and melted in my mouth, just the way ribs should be. Service was friendly. Place got quite busy/full so make sure you book beforehand. When we got the bill we were also given a loyalty card for a discount when we return so we will be back to try other menu items.

The service was lovely and so is the food. The dessert was by far an absolute stand out. I recommend that if you are in the area, that the chocolate and rhubarb fondant is not something you want to miss. In fact if you do give it a miss it would be a crime.

The rest of the meal had some real highs. I loved the beef cheek, but the pumpkin gnocchi not so much. The children's menu was nothing special but it generally isn't and our little ones were happy so overall it was very enjoyable.

Incompetent staff. The manager had absolutely no idea/personality. $28 chicken salad that was shredded cabbage & lettuce, very bland. Got our other order wrong. The nice interior was the only reason we gave this place a second chance & as a local, we won't be returning due to the same mistakes occurring. Really disappointing. Don't bother.
It's a no from me Mr. Morce

This was our third trip to MM and again it didn't fail to deliver. Thursday night Steak Night is an absolute treat and great value for money. Their coffee sourced from Jamaica was also one of the best you'll have anywhere
Pepsi
Unhappy barrister making life hard for everyone. Place was basically empty, yet 4 take away coffees took 25 minutes. We should have read the warning signs when the customer before us was complaining. I would rather chew on a blurter than drink the beans from this venue.

One of the worst breakfasts I've had in some time. Previous review as below...what a decline!

-------

Has taken over from an old stalwart - the Smokehouse.

The food is pretty good for the most part, and I highly recommend the chilli squid and the burger.

Coffee is good, especially for the area.

Service is friendly, if at times can be a bit slack.

The fitout is pleasing, with lots of clean white paint and a reasonable inner courtyard. The seats on the street are a nice place to watch the world drift by.
