Review Sorrento Trattoria - Sorrento

Craig Lanigan
I usually get takeaway pizza from Trattoria when In Sorrento and it's usually been pretty good. I think it may have changed hands recently as both pizza we got last night were appalling. Guys serving were not enjoying life being overwhelmed by orders and phones ringing. I'll try the new shop next to Morgan's next time

We got take away pizza - the pizza like regular pizza joint pizza hence the 3 stars. They need to write on the boxes what's gluten free and what's not though because it got mixed up in the order :( The service initially upon walking in was a bit busy and just 'business as usual' but we got talking to them and they were exceptionally lovely and warm.

We ordered the works pizza, to be honest it was soggy, unappetising and an abomination of a pizza(90% meat toppings, 5% pizza, 5% cheese). We complained about it, they offered to take it off the bill but we were keen to try a pizza although the first one destroyed our appetite. So the next one was a vegetarian pizza with lesser toppings(fearing any meat pizza would have the same problem), to our surprise it was burnt, literally charred at the bottom and the one we tried was probably like charcoal. We offered to pay for it but we made sure we gave them the feedback so they explained that they’ve burnt as the previous pizza was soggy, almost as they did it on purpose. All we expected was a decent and edible pizza, with reasonable service. Clearly this is a place for neither.

Great local Italian, no specific vegan dishes and they said they didn’t have dairy free cheese, but I had a vegetable risotto and just made sure it didn’t have cheese on top. It was really lovely, risotto grains had the right kind of bite and there were lots of veggies. They also have two Italian beers on the menu.

Pizzas used to be really good from Sorrento Trattoria but they are now woeful following a change in management. Some of the previous posters have summed them up - dry, no flavour, lack of cheese and minimal toppings. I ordered a Works pizza and the main ingredient was tomato paste. Don't believe the recent 5 star posters - they are obviously associated with the shop. Pizzas from this shop used to be 8 or 9 out of 10 - they are now 1 out of 10

I know it's New Year's Day, but the service was very poor. Were told the wait was 50 mins. After nearly an hour, we were told they weren't sure where our order was as there were "multiple with the same name". Told us another 10 mins. Went back after another 10 mins and heard one of the staff speak rudely to a customer. After picking up 3 of the largest size pizzas, discovered they were definitely not large. Quality....very disappointed. Used to love this place. Not anymore.

Unfortunately, the pizzas have gone downhill here. Our pizzas were blackened and dry with almost no detectable cheese. They also cost a small fortune. We thought the cardboard box might’ve had more flavour. Hopefully things improve after the busy season as we used the love the pizzas here. For now, we will be heading across the road for fish and chips.

Worst pizza ever! Garlic bread was soggy and seemed like it was reheated a number of times. We ordered the Vegetarian which had half a capsicum (not sliced) and excessive oil. Far from a woodfire pizza, more so a microwave pizza from Coles. The bottle of Coke was very warm too.... and we had to pay an additional 15% Public Holiday surcharge. Only half the pizzas on the menu were actually available aand there's no sign of Carmela.

It is disgusting. I will never eat in here again. Veal was terrible and taste really bad. Not worth for the money.

1.5 stars
Bought takeaway pizza with the works and warm roasted vegetable salad.
Pizza had hardly any cheese and below average. The salad needed seasoning, it was mushy and a big let down.
It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either and expensive for what it is.
Dominos makes better pizza in my opinion.
Honest Food Reviews
Wish I had read reviews before coming to this awful place! After a long day my partner and I walked along the main Sorrento strip in search of dinner. After deciding on Italian we popped into Sorrento Trattoria for a quick meal.

Or so we thought despite the restaurant being 1/3 full at best we waited almost 1 hour for 2 pastas. I understand good food takes time, but the pasta here was sub La Porchetta level, consisting of overcooked, tasteless pasta and cheap Coles marina mix tier seafood. Tratorria was also expensive charging prices similar to top tier pasta spots like Tipo 00. Our bill for 2 pastas was over $60, which was ripoff considering the abysmal level of food and long wait time.

Frankly I have nothing good to say about this place the tables were dirty as well and the service was cold. I will not be coming back!
Birdman
Typical old school pizza pasta joint, nothing fancy and similar to a la porchetta style setup. Food was good enough, had fairly low expectations so that I wasn’t disappointed and I wasn’t. Local pizza with great amount of toppings and the pasta was also acceptable but nothing remarkable. Service was pretty past. Wouldn’t rush back but would eat it again.
Denny Patron
Probably exactly what you would expect. Old school Italian joint that seems to have been there a long time and is dated inside. Food was good but nothing to have you racing back all the time.

Pizza was nice crunchy crust and decent toppings, both the amatriciana and ragu pasta were tasty and pretty large portions! Calamari seemed pretty fresh and was soft.

Could maybe have been a 3.5/5

One of the worst dining experiences ever, waited 1.5hrs for food (wasn’t even a full house) over priced considering it’s not a fine dining place. Can’t justify $38 for a plate of pasta in an outdated restaurant and it was a circus in there, staff so scattered not knowing what the heck they were doing. Will not be returning. Ohh and the pizza was terrible. Authentic Italian? I don’t think so. I’ve had better at Pizza Hut!
Michelle
What an experience! went with a party of 16 people, and waited 1.5 hours for our main meals to come out. When we asked when the food was coming as the kids were starving, we were told by the manager "do you want your food raw?" What sort of manager is running this place? Absolutely surprised by her comment, and her customer service is appalling. Also there was another table of 11 people and they got there after us and got their food a lot earlier than ours. We wont be back!!!!

We had our dinner here last Sunday. I had the pizza and the mussels. it was good and have a good decent price. Staffs are friendly. Would be back for some more.

Had to edit my original review as the first time was take away pizzas which were really really nice! But the second time we came here we ate inside the restaurant with a pasta craving and my god did they deliver! The sugo tasted authentic, homey and just so comforting. After trying a couple other Italian restaurants around Sorrento, this was the best.
KH
A very disappointing experience! On Sat evening 4 of us arrived at the restaurant at 7.30pm, placed our orders within 10mins only to wait, wait and wait... we asked the waitress how long our meals would be & she told us it was a busy night, it was always challenging when a table ordered both pizza & an item from the kitchen (?) & they were short staffed. She was quite defensive. Finally 90mins later our meals arrived - pizza was warm at best & arancini was hard (not freshly prepared) & we paid $81 for the privilege! Won't be returning or recommending unfortunately.

My friends and I went here during 2015 Christmas weekend. The place is lovely and pretty. I didn't like my pizza at all. I have been in Italy many times and I know what a good pizza is and this did not satisfy my expectations. Very thick dough and no tomato sauce at all, at least in the "Aussie Pizza". Moreover, too much prosciutto and it was dry..

On the other hand, pasta is very good I have to say, full of flavor maybe lacking salt but that's up to the customer. Service was very friendly although they forgot to bring us some drinks and misunderstood pizza sizes.

Good food overall but pizzas are definitely not the best.

Came for dinner tonight while at Sorrento for the long weekend..
I am GF & DF and was pleasantly surprised that Trattoria make their own gf pasta & pizza.. they were out of pasta so i had a vegetarian pizza without the cheese & added prosciutto..
It was delicious.. base was light & fluffy for a gf pizza base, and just the right amount of toppings.. my husband has the lasagna.. he enjoyed it and said it was very good.. and he was very happy with his tirimisu as well.. we enjoyed the evening & the great service but it was a little on the noisy side as it was busy..
We will make a point to come back next time were in the area..

I Love Food
Dined here tonight for a family dinner as a group of 9. I had the eggplant pizza from gourmet pizza menu, was tasty. Others had pizza, pasta & chicken. All enjoyed their meals. Friendly service.
Mumma Forbina
Great pizza. Good prices. Large and small was about $33. Would definitely go back. Took about 15 mins on a Sunday. They don’t deliver sooooooo
CATD
Ordered two large pizzas- Hawaiian and BBQ Chicken. Pretty good and on par with our local pizza shops at home. A longer trip there to collect as Blairgowrie Pizza prices too expensive to swallow!
Ros
Very sloooow service. Veal Cotoletta was good, warm chicken salad ok, not warm, cannoli very good. Overall service ruined the experience. Staff friendly.
Dave B
Dined here for the first time tonight. Service: the young woman who waited on us was excellent, friendly, funny but also very efficient. Food: Aranchini entrée was very good, well cooked, generous serve and full of flavour. Sizzling prawns were also good. Amatriciana pasta for mains was very good, pancetta and bacon was abundant. Dad had the veal with 'greens' brocollini etc also very good. Don't let the cafeteria ambience of this place fool you, the food and service will sway you. Will definitely be back.
AaronN
The worst meal we had whilst in Sorrento. After a pretty bland garlic focaccia I ordered the Veal Sicilianna and my gf ordered the signature dish, the Trattoria. Both were terrible. The veal was the most chewy and disgusting meat I've had in recent memory, and the texture of the gnocchi in the Trattoria just weird. Ick.
Tanja Trbojevic
Came here for dinner, waited a hour for food and was dissapointed. The staff were nice however the food was quite the contrary - soggy pizza, pasta with hair and salad not seasoned well. Disspointed by the wait and quality - wouldn't recommend.

The first night in Sorrento and we had a very nice meal. One of our party had the Flounder. The presentation was great it tasted very good according to our friend. One had the Marinara spaghetti and last of our party had pizza.

All very good and well worth a visit when in Sorento.
JF
Dined there last night and the food was amazing! Traditional Sicilian food made with love. The service was good and the staff friendly, even though it was quite busy. The owner/chef is even taking food tours of Sicily. They know their stuff!
Jason Whiteman
The food here is just brilliant. You can tell the menu has been put together with somebody with a passion for food and love of making people happy with food.

Good value and good atmosphere
The Roving Diner
Great place to eat for a casual feed. Family friendly, very reasonably priced, friendly staff who are very accommodating. I always leave here with a satisfied appetite and a feeling of great value for money.

This was my fourth visit. While the decor, yes is a little 80's but once you taste the food do you really care what sort of chair you are sitting on. Had a small perfectly cooked pizza, gnocchi that melted in your mouth, a veal saltimbocca and warm beetroot salad. Everything was delicious. You can tell this family run restaurant uses the best ingredients and cooks everything traditionally with love. Don't miss it!
Madeleine Costanzo
Haven't been here in ages so we decided to take the kids for lunch and glad we did, the food was delicious! Generous serving. And good customer service! Highly recommend.
John Sweet
Stuck in the 80's. The staff were friendly, the service was fast and the food was ok but just ok. The decor is tired and the pizza reminded me of the thick based laden with cheese pizzas that were around 30 years ago.
LadbydayFoodiebynight
I came here on a public holiday and rather than hire staff, they had instead decided to have children cleaning tables and delivering orders for the day.
While the very few actual staff working may have felt this was 'cute' it was very off-putting seeing a boy who must have been no older than 5 years old with his hand down his pants scratching and then being told to clean and prepare a table for the next lot of unsuspecting customers.
Donna A
Can't go past Sorrento Trattoria for good honest traditional Italian cuisine. Service is always friendly and efficient and food is always good.
Gary Johnston
Fails on every count. We dropped into the restaurant on a Saturday night around eight o'clock. It was busy- ish but not packed to overcrowding. When it was ascertained we didn't have a booking they said we could have a table overlooking the kitchen. Thanks for that. No one came to take our order for a while and we didn't like the vibe. If they don't arrive at our table with a pad and pen soon, we're out of here we said. Unfortunately, at that point, someone did. Oh dear, very well. Or, to be more accurate, very bad. Our pasta arabiata was changed for a puttanesca which had more salt than the Dead Sea. In edible. The marinara was swimming in oil and was equally unpalatable. At that we cut our losses and left; we weren't charged for the marinara. It's not hard to cook pasta and sauce but this place managed to cock it up. Never again. We went to Coles and made it ourselves. Avoid.
Digesto
Too expensive. We have always gone here for years, but on our last visit, the prices have become way too much for what it is.
$16 for soup??$14 for a kids meal? Your kidding! Sorry, you've have priced yourselves out of the market for Digesto.
Sarah W
My partner and I fancied a traditional Aussie pizza, nothing flash, nothing too pricey and after checking out a few options in sorento we stopped here. It was exactly what we wanted, real good pizza, beautiful mozzarella salad and good honest friendly service. I love wood fired pizza etc and coming from melbourne there's heaps of these to choose from but when you just fancy a great simple pizza, this is the place to go. We'll be back.

Magnificent. We ate at Sorrento Trattoria tonite and couldn't be happier with the meals.

We had the barramundi with prawns and calamari salad for mains which were both exceptional whilst our kids had the bolognaise and chicken snitzel and they ate every mouthful.
We both enjoyed the tiramisu for desert which made our mouth water whilst the kids had icecream on cones.

All magnificent with helpful and efficient staff.
Nickvar
Terrible. Bought a take away pasta for the kids, handful of spaghetti with cheese on top for $13, lucky to feed a mouse.

Fantastic Lunch. We were down the peninsula for a long weekend and decided to try Sorrento Trattoria for a quiet Friday lunch. It was reasonably quiet for the size of the restaurant but we had arrived very early for lunch. Service was excellent and the food arrived promptly. We ordered a large Inferno pizza, fries and drinks. The Inferno pizza would be one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. Very traditional looking pizza with a great chilli kick! Would highly recommend this place!
Sarah Hilton-Wood
Paid $35 for calamari and salad take away. Came home to find some soggy pieces of calamari and chips! Plus hardly any salad. Barely filled a container half full. Pathetic.

Clinic. Unprofessional! We booked a table for 4 people for 9pm, immediately after we attended a movie next door. On our arrival, we were informed the boss had decided to close the restaurant early, despite acknowledging our booking. This placed us in limbo on a wet and cold night in an unfamiliar town.

So much for taking the time to make a booking. We will not be returning to this restaurant!!
Duncan M
Love this place. Great food and staff. Really good for family's. 10 out 10

Wonderful Experience. We dined at Sorrento Trattoria this evening and it was wonderful.

Everything from the food which was cooked to perfection to the service made the evening a most enjoyable one.

Our waitress Josie was a wonderful host and it was a joy to see someone who actually takes pride and is so passionate about her job.

We will definitely be returning back to this restaurant for a meal and would certainly recommend it to anyone who
wants to enjoy an authentic italian meal.

Mary

My friend and I ate here at dinner tonight and as a treat I opted for the seafood platter, and I was astounded at the amount there was, all the fish was cooked to perfection, calamari was soft and tender, the mussels were so tasty and fresh. Would definitely recommend this reataurant to anyone. Food was fantastic, lovely atmosphere and service was impeccable.
Dunja Peric
We ate there last night and tge setting was gorgeous, nice courtyard, the staff was super friendly, the menu was awesome, prices were sensational compared to many others in the area! When the food did arrive within 15 min of ordering, the pizzas were delicious! Melb style, thin crust, balanced toppings, and only the best of the best ingredients! Quality to the max!! Not many pizza joints in melb can deliver that kind of quality! The salads were awesome and the chips were crisp, not fatty... the seafood platter being devoured by fellow diners on the table next to us made me salivate! I love a good pizza, which we got, but i love a great seafood platter even more! And the table next to us certainly got that!! They paid for two, but they had three adults eating and they still couldnt eat it all!! Value for money?? Totally!! I would go back and will go back next time i'm in sorrento!! Superb!!!!!
Lil
Dropped in without a booking. Clearly our two families of 10 were an inconvenience. Whistle we did order pizza pasta ice-cream coffee, we were politely told... I thought given my effort (to arrange a table to fit us all) would be worthwhile. How do you continue ordering, eating, enjoying or relaxing on a Friday night on a kong weekend. As locals, we can get pasta anywhere I guess. No tip.
Wendy Bourke
Perfect Italian Trattoria. One of the best in Sorrento, traditional pasta dishes and great parmagiana. Lovely ambience, choice of inside or outdoors, has a lovely relaxed feel and the food is wonderful. Service is excellent and would return any time we are in the area.

Appalling on every account! Food was below mediocre, service horrendous and embarrassing. Could even get our bill printed as no one knew how to do it !
TonyD
Fantastic food and service. Kids loved the pizza's and tortellini marinara was very tasty.
Rachel
Food is delicious and plentiful and the service is even better... Even to the extent that they held our 3 month year old while we ate!

Great new option in Sorrento. I've been here a couple of times now, once with a large group and once with my parents. The service is very warm and friendly and the food is overall very good. Steak servings were huge and entree pastas are definitely a main size. Not a place to go to if you don't like noise as there can often be a few large noisy family groups. Also, as we were leaving two of the wait staff were having a very loud and public argument with each other and seemed oblivious of the fact that they were in the restaurant and their guests could hear everything! But this is a good option in Sorrento where many others are overpriced and overrated.
Vic King
Pity but poor. In all honesty the pizzas are alright and my kids enjoy them. However I ordered a caesar salad and it came with no anchovies, when I pointed out to the cook she told me she had put some in. I could not find any until at the end I found the tiniest piece of anchovy. The waitress was nice and tried her best. I reckon that place could be fantastic but it would need the visit of Gordon Ramsay to improve the food, the menu, the deco and the tidiness. So until then I won't go back.

Awesome food, great service!. I was in this restaurant on Sunday with my friends and we really enjoyed our dinner. The service was fast and very friendly and the food was delicious too. The best dishes were the creamy salmon with linguini and the spaghetti with mussels. The portions were massive and he price is good.
Laurie
Loved This Sicilian Family Owned Restaurant!. The courtyard was so charming, the food was delicious, and the waitstaff was amazing! We ordered the mussels for an app and pizza for dinner- it was delicious, but what will keep us coming back to this restaurant is the warm welcome and excellent service we received from Siobhan and Josie! Thank you, you ladies are the best! :)

I took my parents from W.A here last night for my birthday and all I can say is awesome! My dad and I had the rib eye which was cooked to perfection, and my mum had the marinara which I forgot to tell the waitress no pasta but mum ate it all including the pasta and she really enjoyed it. Dad and I loved our steaks. Service was amazing, professional and welcoming. We all had tiramisu for desert which was great. Atmosphere was just right! Definitely recommend it to everyone I meet. Huge portions and inexpensive too.

At my husband's insistance, he wanted 'Italian' food, so we went into Sorrento Trattoria. BIG MISTAKE. I choose Spagetti Aioli, it was swimming in oil. Our daughter ordered Gnocci Napoli, it was so tasteless, the sauce was no other than the heavy tomato paste, after 3 mouthfuls of Gnocci, she left it.
Hubby asked for pizza. My daughter and I finished eating and he still didnt get the pizza. When he asked the waitress where is the pizza? she replied that the 'chef didnt have anything to do in the kitchen, so he started on the pasta's before the pizza guy had the order' Oh...ok, thats poor time management. He finally got it 20 mins later. When the pizza finally made it to the table, hubby had 2 slices, he found a long black hair within the topping. I knew how hungry he was, when he pushed the tray away, saying, I've had enough, I should have guessed something was wrong, but I just wanted to get out. When it was time time pay, expensive is not the word. The person taking the money at the counter needs a course in Customer Service, she not only sighed when taking our money, she saw someone she knew come into the restaurant, and before she could return our change, she said to us 'hold on'...greeted them, then finally returned the change, without a glance or a thank you. To say, the quality of food is below standard and dirty, is an understatement! We WILL NOT be going there anymore.
Jade Jessica
Waitressing staff were pretty unprofessional, had to remind the waiters for drinks even though the restaurant is very empty. Antipasto Platter was disappointing, sun dried tomatoes were soggy, only some ingredients were fresh. Bolognese was good, and serving size was generous. Overall disappointing, the main saved the day.
Gloria
My family and I visited Sorrento trattoria this evening for dinner. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic! The 2 waitresses were rushed off their feet and still smiling :)
I noticed there were customers that were not happy about a certain charge on their bill and even after fixing the problem, made it difficult for the staff. I think you both did a wonderful job considering how busy you were and should be commended. We will be back :)
JAD
Great Service, great staff especially Shavon was great. Gourmet pizza was fantastic and I will go back when I'm in the area next.

Best food ever!!! Will go there over and over again!!! To the comment below u have no idea what ur talking about!!! Love sorrento trattoria's food!!!
Diane
Waiters went wrong!. As a family of 5 people, we went to Sorrento last January 2012 for the time and had great food and brilliant service. The second time we went was on the fifth of October, 2012 and had great food but not that good service.
Susie
Had the soup special tonight and I can't find the words to describe how good it was. slow cooked beef with vegetables and rissoni....bought two large containers takeway. Josie you are amazing.
Falcky5
Friendly service. Good cheap pizzas. Can't go wrong with the trattoria
Mariah
We had many dishes, inferno pizza, lamb shanks, portahouse steak, mushroom ravioli, calamari, Knocchi, American wedges. All food was well cooked and very tasty. Would return. Only downfall was there was only one staff taking orders and bringing meals and it was a little slow.
The Proffessor
Fantastic. Over the weekend my collegues and I visited Sorrento Trattoria for dinner on Saturday night.
The staff were very friendly and made our evening delightful.
Many thanks to our waitress Josie who was very charming and helpful.
Wonderful atmosphere. We shall return.

Excellent. Over the Easter break my family and I went to Sorrento Trattoria. What a "Bellisimo" time we had.
Our beautiful waitress Josie made our evening a delight and we were glad to see that the blonde waitress with the HUGE arse had gone.
Congratulations Sorrento Trattoria we will be back again and again 10 stars.
Mrspooksie
We went for an early dinner with our children and it was excellent. The godfather pizza was divine and the kids knocked off a Hawaiian pizza and lasagne with no complaints. Great pizza bases. Very friendly service. A great family restaurant, not fancy but good simple Italian. We would happily return any day
Sanjana Tule
Pathetic service . Waiters don't even have decency to talk.

Sunday Night is exceptional. My 2nd sunday night visit this month and it's wonderfull. We had sensational food and lovely service from the waitress. The specials are fantastic, i wouldn't order anything else. The chefs are friendly and happy to accomidate any special needs. 5 stars.
I usually go for lunch at this time of year but have always found the staff horribly reluctant and very unplesant. However the young lady who served us on sunday night was just superb at her job. I really felt welcome and looked after.

I was in for dinner last night with my friends. Fantastic service!! The food came out in very good time and was delicious. Our waitress was lovely and the affogato and gelato was fantastic and beautifully presented. If its always that good we will be regulars.
Trent.h
Pizza is amazing and prices are way better than across the road. Service was awesome and the blonde waitress is HOT!!

My wife and I went for dinner last night (Friday) and we were amazed at the difference in a matter of a week. It was sensational! We went for lunch a week or so ago also and the food was superb. One of the young chefs made us a beautiful meal, but the waitress was surly and disinterested. Last night the difference was extreme, I was greeted by a beautifully presented young woman who was all smiles and grace. She explained (in detail) the specials for us and recommended wine without being pushy or impatient. I even asked what nights she worked as I will try only to be back on those nights. It was 5 star service. The meal was exceptional again and the saganaki starter was perfectly done. Well done to all the staff from Friday night. It was the first time I have been for dinner and I wouldn't go during the day again. The evening staff are a cut above the rest. Cheers!!

Am from France with my sister. Went Lunch today and had the most beautiful gourmet Pizza marinara and quatro formage. Waitress was devine and I was able to order to her in French. It was a merveilleux meal! 5 stars please.

Had a great lunch last week. It was packed but the food was sensational. I would happily go again just for the food. The Paella was the best I've ever had and I'm Spanish. The waitress who served my husband and I was lovely. Spent a lot of time talking to us about the menu and specials. It's rare to get such patient service. The wine that was recommended was also spot on! Thanks again. Hope to be back soon.
Truthfull
Tonight was our 4th visit and the first time we have been on a busy night. The food was excellent. There was a half hour wait but I consider that reasonable on a Saturday night in summer. I will be back again when I'm in the area again. I would like to add that though it was a busy night rudeness from our waitress was still intolerable. I complained to a very understanding young woman at the front counter (who has served us before) and she came away from the job she was doing to take care of us. I could not be more appreciative. I was thrilled to see someone in their 20's with such beautiful manners and old world graces. Especially after hearing nothing but profanity from 2 other staff. Bravo! That is the kind of waitress all good restaurants need. Will go again!

AHHHH IM ON FIRE. TRY THE INFERNO PIZZA. BLOWS OFF YOUR SOCKS. PEACE

Worst restaurant I've ever been to! 1. Bad service - did not even bring us cutlery 2. Rude staff 3. Food was absolutely terrible! The best thing there was probably the chilled water (which we had to self serve to)! Never coming here again! Definitely do not recommend this restaurant.

Pizzas were quite nice. Good bases and toppings. Friendly service, though arguments between staff were bizarre.

The cheese and fruit platter was generous, the pizza was a little on the crisper side and the sausage overdone, but it was still rather tasty...
