Well what can you say?
* Dinning at its best
* Amazing Staff
* Insane food and wines
There was a mouth party and all my taste buds were invited.
I'm now a regular here and at the sister restaurant "L" Hotel Gitan
just first class..
Dear Bistro Gitan Team thank you so much for making another milestone anniversary so memorable. We adore the chic, understated decor, our favourite Perrier Jouet champagne, the food is simply sublime and the staff are an absolute delight: attentive and cheeky. Can't wait to see you once more! Belle x
My husband and I ate here last night and I can easily say that it's the best French food I've eaten in Australia. The champagne was outstanding & the staff were so friendly & accomodating...open in Sydney or we may just have to move to Melbourne! Thank you team Gitan!
We had a beautiful lunch Bistro Gitan last Saturday. One of my fav restaurants in Melb. Food and service was perfect.
Really enjoyed our meal
Friendly, attentive staff and delicious food.
Service was excellent and food was exactly what I imagined when ordered... how spoilt can you be to give this a bad review? It was great and I thoroughly enjoyed my night! AAA+!
One of Melbourne's best!! With great look and feel, Gitan's fun and friendly staff provide excellent service. The food is wonderful, the wine list is international, and interesting. I had the Coffin Bay Oysters last night, which were served with a refreshing, fun sorbet. The only disappointment was that I had to eventually go home!!
Love the food and love the service!! Havenât been let down yet, keep up the good work ïżœ
Beautiful food, service fantastic. Love this place.
From the moment you walk in the door the Bistro Gitan experience begins. The service, the food, drinks are just perfection- love this place.
Great food , good wine and great service . Strongly recommended .ïżœïżœïżœïżœïżœ
Brilliant service - Marcelle thank you! Food delicious!
Four friends enjoying dinner on a Friday evening. What a great night, it started at the front door & just got better from there. Excellent food, wine list & service. We will definitely return. đđžđž
It is an absolute pleasure to dine in an establishment as fine as Bistro Gitan.
No faults.
Excellent service combined with equally as good meals and wines, really gave us a great night out.
We started with a random selection of small dishes from the specials board. The lamb cigars, rabbit terrine and ox tongue were all magnificent.
Once more off the specials board, for mains, we were tempted with the beef flank steak, pork belly and gnocchi.
Outstanding flavours, food presentation and portion size.
Jacques Reymond was my favourite French restaurant in Melbourne..great service and impeccable food and I was a bit upset when it was closed. I had been meaning to try bistro gitan owned by one of his kids and today it is! The whole meal was beautiful. We ordered the croque moussier, gnocchi, fish, potato and cheese gratin and chocolate pudding. Every dish was finesse! Loved it.
Had a lovely lunch here with a friend. Beautiful building converted from an old Victorian pub. Warm inviting interior. We chose from the âFormule Expressâ lunch menu -$40 for two options & glass of wine. My friend chose the corn soup which was a creamy veloute topped with truffle oil, the scent of the truffle wafted up intoxicatingly from her bowl. I chose the Kingfish Hiramasa, cured fish with compressed apple, pork crackling & soy citrus dressing. Light & fresh & just enough to whet the appetite for the main. A small panier of bread was served with the entrees. For main my friend chose the Snapper fillet, crumbed & fried served with a thick yellowish rouille & a salad that included rings of calamari. I had the spatchcock with a mustard crust served on a bed of braised cabbage & bacon. The bird was beautifully moist & tender but was a little too red around the bone for my liking. A bowl of moreish french fries completed the mains. We went the whole hog, so to speak, for $8 more & each had a lemongrass infused creme brulee. Cracking burnt sugar top & a luscious creamy custard with a pleasing hint of lemongrass. Overall a delightful high quality lunch at a good value for money price. Service was friendly, prompt & attentive. Our two young French waiters threw in the occasional âmerciâ âde rienâ & âmonsieurâ which added to the ambience. My only quibble, being seated not far from the door, having several deliveries come through the dining area. Having high-vis vests & trollies stacked with crates pass by your table while you lunch, may not be good look for a classy eatery where the diners seemed well heeled or well suited. Maybe Iâm just a snob...
Elegant French in friendly refined surroundings. I'd heard the name Jacques Reymond since moving to Melbourne, and always assumed I'd eat at one of his restaurants. He closed his solo doors before I got around to it, but remains involved with Bistro Gitan, jointly operated by three of his children.
I came here for a work Christmas lunch and I couldn't fault anything. The service was great and the food was excellent. The entrees were just the right amount and the main that I had, Bavette Sauce au vin Rouge was delicious. The bavette steak was cooked medium rare, nothing short of perfection for a great piece of meat.
Had a lovely experience dining at Bistro Gitan. Lovely little restaurant, well-decorated, with a nice and cosy atmosphere. We chose various dishes off their menu, including a few dishes from their âspecialsâ section. Everything was flavourful, well presented and delicious, however the most memorable dish had to be the pineapple dessert! Waiter was lovely and attentive throughout the evening, and helped inform us of the different ingredients and flavours and recommended dishes too.
This is an excellent place for an unpretentious dining experience despite its location.
Food is great with warm friendly service. We had a casual dinner in the bar on a weeknight. The place was full and had a great atmosphere. We'll be back for sure.
Solid performer with a good value lunch menus tucked around the back of South Yarra. The tall chair tables are uncomfortable make sure you are seated towards the front, at night in can get very busy and loud but a good time is normally had, food is good with some stand out dishes.
Weâve been a few times and it never disappoints, the service, ambiance and food is always great, the staff are always very attentive, fair value for money too
This place offers excellent service and food. The seating areas are separated into formal table setting, lounge room (near fire place) and bar seating. I love visiting this place in winter as it feels cozy and romantic.

@Bistro Gitan
To say French is my favourite cuisine would be an understatement!
Everything we tried was fantastic, my friend Gaya and I started with a dirty martini and a mohito.
We shared several dishes, the escargot and parfait were fab! The raw king fish is definite. We had one of the specials which was the quail and we both had serve with their potato gratin. The list of wines were impressive and complimented the food well. Will be a regular visitor here!
This place is easy to get to now that the tram is at the front door. Once inside I was greeted by a friendly French backpacker (I presume), like most places it can take awhile to get a drink, keg of the month was from Beechworth, a little light but it was a warm day, so I had two. Zucchini flower looked good but didnât have the flavour that I would expect from a place like this. l go for the specials so pork belly it was, couldnât complain, a little flavourless but nice.
Overall a great place and a nice atmosphere for a high end restaurant at the top end of Toorak Rd.
It was a beautiful night dining here with my partner. We enjoyed every plate we ordered and was impressed by Bistro Gitan. We mainly ordered their special and really was impressed. Delicious food and comfortable vibe here.
Food is French with some modern fusion 10/10. Great combination of classical French and modern Australian flavours.
Atmosphere 9/10 more classic casual
Service 10/10 - attentive and impeccable.
Wow what a lovely experience, we decided to come here for our 10th anniversary and everything was delicious, attentive staff who ensured that we moved tables when a very young family arrived. Oysters, scallops, spatchcock, blue eye trevally, steamed greens, rose water brûlée, Nebbiolo, Pinot noir, lillet rose and vin de noix $230
My dinner companion selected the venue as it was close by. I was a tad hestitant due to the very limited menu (particularly for mains) but I am glad we went anyway. They do have daily specials on a board but we went with escargot, garfish and mustard spatchcock. All were done very well and I loved the garfish. It was crispy, not oily and fried to perfection. You would be hard pressed to find a fish and chip shop that serves garfish much less cook it so well. Side salad had crispy calamari hidden among the leaves so was a treat. Mustard spatchcock was nice but not a standout. Both of us had the chocolate fondant (lava cake) and that alone is a reason to go back. 5 stars for the dessert. We'll be back.
Australiaâs top kitchen talent comes together this month to do their bit for children displaced by the conflict in Syria. Following the inspiring success of #CookForSyria in the UK, the Australian version is a new nationwide fundraising initiative â in aid of UNICEF Australiaâs Syria Crisis Appeal for Children â with a month-long campaign and a spectacular charity dinner held at The Point Albert Park, in Melbourne.
Very pleasant casual French bistro on a light filled corner. Service was friendly and food was well paced. Particularly liked the beef tartare in the lettuce and the pate, we also had a special of scallops with a corn puree which was delicious. We tried the fried zucchini flowers but the batter was too thick. For main I had garfish Colbert, which was nicely cooked, but salad underneath a little pedestrian. CrÚme brulee was very well executed though!
Beautiful setting, recommended for a romantic date at night or a business lunch in the afternoon.
Attentive arrived offset by not so much choice on the menu. Had the the specials on the board for entree and main of ox tongue and pork scotch. I was not disappointed. The ox tongue sliced to the thinnest, and just cooked so the meat kept its tenderness.
Pork scotch was cooked twice - so soft it melts in the mouth.
Highly recommended if one likes French and doesn't mind selecting from a small menu! The additional pluses to the food: great service and setting within an old Victorian building just completed the atmosphere!

the service was amazing, the host is very prompt and friendly, our table waiter was superb, oysters & entree was so so so delicious, but to be honest we were disappointed with both of our steaks (daily special eye fillet & porterhouse) it was cooked perfectly Medium-Rare, but somehow it was very chewy and lacking of flavour.Â
other than that i am happy with the service, other food & wine lists :)
and beautiful venue too xx
Top notch food - really delicate flavours and tremendously tasty. Solid service and would highly recommend. We had a cocktail and a bit of wine, so our bill was more than $120 for two people, however not hard to beat that price as mains are just shy of $40 and after a few entrees, it adds up... Savoury churros were sublime and would encourage folks to order! Warning - not suitable for folks on crutches or older guests as toilets are down a steep set of stairs.
We have lived around the corner from Bistro Gitan for almost 5 years, and for some reason have yet to make the visit. Being our anniversary, I thought this would be the perfect time to pop over and experience their âromantic atmosphereâ I hear so much about. ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE
We have been long time regulars at Bistro Gitan. The food is always excellent . The lunch deal is inticing for a quick business lunch we recommend it very highly....but,
The maitre de chef can be extremely pushy with comments starting from ..wouldn't you rather have sparkling water Instead of tap...what no petit?(small starter) before the moyen (entree). Why a glass of wine when you can have a bottle. What no dessert? It goes well beyond helpful. We are waiting for him to suggest we supersize our fries and would we like a Coke with that burger (drive thru style).
So if you can be firm with him you will have a wonderful experience...you could always do with a Coke and fries of course with your Le Big Mac.
Firstly the setting is amazing, tucked away and not in the heart of any main eatery strip. The building is warmly lit and the decor inside is everything you would hope for in a french bistro. The staff are very attentive and willing to help as soon as you open the door. We organised a small birthday party and they could not have been more helpful. There is a small bar in the middle to enjoy a couple of drinks before your meal. The menu here is typical french bistro style with a gypsy twist. Flavourful, warming and delicious,
My favourite place for steak and chips or for something a little more fancy, Bistro Gitan consistency severs up beautiful and mouth-watering food. The waiters are friendly and known the wine list well. Itâs busy throughout the week but definitely worth the wait. For those who have a small appetite, I would make the strategic move and order the garfish for main so you have room for dessert. If youâve just come from a hour/s odd exercise and after eating no more than a salad for lunch, than order the steak and chips with a side of greens.
My favorite restaurant in Melbourne. I'll qualify by saying there have been plenty of more impressive restaurants I've been to, but as a local bistro that draws me back again and again it hasn't been surpassed. I've eaten here several times with work, family, friend, from small groups to large, sat at the bar for drinks and a snack, and I have yet to leave disappointed. Has a solid standard menu but the daily specials board always delivers something new and interesting. Great wine list. Lovely atmosphere. Unfussy service. Delicious food. Will be back soon.
My friend and I went there last night and had the oysters, escargot, liver parfait, beef tartare and two mains on the special menu (lamb rack and tuna cooked two way). We enjoyed the liver parfait the most, followed by the oysters, lamb rack, tuna, escargot then beef tartare.
The beef tartare wasn't the traditional minced type style but rather we were presented with thinly sliced raw beef on a bed of lettuce (somewhat similar to the chinese dish san choy bao).
I would definitely recommend this place.Â
YOU MUST TRY THE LIVER PARFAIT!!
Absolutely loved this place from the minute I walked in. I can't fault anything, my partner and I had fresh oysters, escargot, salmon, duck and steak followed by a lovely dessert- creme brûlée and mille feuille
The service from one of the female waiters(sorry can't remember the name blonde hair) was extremely helpful when explaining specials and choosing meals as well as what wines to try. She had attention to detail and always filled up drinks regularly, smiled and asked how the meal was.
A great place to dine out! It's quite good for work functions too and the staff is super friendly. The food is great as it's a fine dining restaurant. This place has a great ambiance and you could go their with your friends/family, work colleagues or even a good date. They do have weekly specials and definitely have to try their duck option. If you're in the mood for coffee but need some alcohol too, you could try their amazing #ExpressoMartini (shown in photo).
One of my favourites, been coming here regularly for years now. Great atmosphere and staff perfectly complement the food. Tonight we enjoyed the escargot, pate, tartare and last but definitely not least for me was the barramundi special. Gives me everything I want in a good quality restaurant
Great atmosphere and all round dining experience.
Staples:
Natural oysters
Steak and fries
Something different:
Liver parfait .. Amazing!
Six escargots.. Tasty but need to enjoy garlic
What a beautiful dining experience, from the amazing food to the lovely service- not an every day restaurant price wise, but if you're looking for a special place to go, highly recommended!!
Excellent food and outstanding service. Great wine selection. A real gem of a place. My only reservation was that it was too loud and crowded but everything else made up for it in spades.
Perfect in every way. Delicious food, wonderful staff and atmosphere to write home about. The weekly specials are always superb and the wine list is the best i've seen.
Flawless as expected! The special of the day was the duck risotto with thin slices of truffle and beetroot which I think they need to permanently place on their menu. Absolutely gorgeous. The spatchcock was perfectly cooked, so tender and flavours well balanced.
Exquisite French food and fantastic service by the wait staff. French basics on the main menu and some great traditional favorites on the specials board. It was a memorable experience which I will need to relive@
After dining at Bistro Gitan, I realised that we as Melburnians are so spoiled for choices. This is another example of a really good restaurant, where both the food and service are top notch. On a Saturday night, the place was just buzzing, with a very romantic and intimate table setting. Probably the only thing to fault there was that it was quite cramped, I laughed at something my friend said, threw my head back, and my head hit the person walking by to their table. Aside from that, every indecent and scandalous thing we've talked about did not reach the next table, which I was quite thankful for.
Had lunch here today based on a friends recommendations. Was not disappointed with good service, great French food and a well presented premises
A new favourite!. Memorable Steak and Fries, relaxed vibe, beautiful space and attentive staff ... I'm a fan.

Went here for dinner in Saturday night. We all loved it. The food was amazing and wines to match. We will be back. The staff were excellent and extremely knowledgeable of the menu.
Situated picture-perfectly opposite leafy Fawkner Park, it was hard to feel we werenât at a toasty dining hole in Paris. Itâs a restaurant owned and run by restaurateur, Jacques Reymondâs children so itâs no surprise fine dining runs in their blood. After finishing a bottle of red at The Botanical prior, we were after something less meat-market, more meat. We nestled into the leather cushioned couches in the corner, next to an open fire and a couple of other guests enjoying a Saturday night of Melbourne winter. A huge wooden, square coffee table was enclosed by couches, the wall behind me was stocked with wine bottles and i have to say it all made me feel right at home in an instant. The 2011 Castillo de Albai âJovenâ Tempranillo we ordered was smooth and aromatic (also easier to drink than pronounce) and the fire to my left perfectly completed the recipe to war
Gitan excelled when it came to the atmosphere and, perhaps more importantly, created the
I keep coming back regardless of the time of year whether for lunch or dinner or a glass of interesting wine and charcuterie plate. I will be interested to try Hotel Gitan and its mixed reviews.
Perfect for long lunches. Skilled, knowledgable and friendly waiters. The food is beautifully rustic; the space elegant and inviting. My favourite restaurant for a lazy, boozy lunch with my favourite people. Heading there tomorrow and will probably order the snails, potato and cheese gratin and at least one of the daily specials...again.
I had walked past a number of times on my way to South Yarra and the restaurant always looked popular. We were walk ins and a table was found for us. The food was delicious and service was very attentive. I had the Hapuka which was cooked to perfection. We also shared the potato gratin which was divine! Definitely would recommend
Love this place! Recently moved into the area and think it may be our new local. Great food, great staff and great atmosphere. Especially love their specials! Do yourself a favour and book a table!
A Most Pleasant Celebration. We came to the Bistro Gitan to celebrate my wife's birthday and could not have chosen a better restaurant. It was a success in every way. We managed to park right outside the door. Late due to traffic gridlock resulting from tramway works in Chapel Street the staff were sympathetic and friendly. The ambience was excellent and the wait staff were most helpful and efficient. Rather than have main courses we settled for the tapas and entrée style dishes a charcuterie plate and a mousse for dessert. The dishes included "beignets" "trotter" croquettes, calves liver etc., every dish being an absolute delight. The portions were quite generous and the waiters advice excellent. We could not have had a more delightful evening. We'll certainly be back soon.
Pùté is to die for :). Good food and service. Nice and reliable.
THIS FAMILY GETS IT RIGHT!. First time Friday night Dinner. Full house, busy & bustling. Everything Fabulous. Superb, engaging & earnest service from the 2 gents with trimmed beards. Had a superb Chianti & always a winner Heathcote Shiraz at fair prices for the venue. Don't know what the reviewer complaining about the steaks meant...we had a perfect Medium Rare Scotch Fillet & the Hapuka fish & entrees were pleasantly light. Positioned so differently to Jaques Reymond (favourite..every 2 yrs!) though service so attentive, environment fantastic- there is a magic about the place. Looking forward to next time!
Magnifique! Every boccatto was a celebration, the service was warm and impeccable, a wonderful experience.
We were a party of 7 celebrating a birthday and we couldn't have ask for more. Thank you!
Live around the corner, have been twice! Excellent on both occasions, food service and wine all super.
Best chicken liver pasta ever!. My only complaint is that the chicken liver pasta is sooo good, that I can't bring myself to order anything else! Lol except dessert and cheese - please keep the doughnuts w caramel sauce on the menu ;-)
Had dinner here tonight, entree, main dessert and drink, absolute amazing experience, the staff were exceptional, incredibly informed on all of the dishes! A truly unforgettable experience, the food is second to none, I would recommend to anyone!
In the hands of professionals. Have eaten at BG three times now, twice at lunch and once for dinner. Have commented each time on how solid and professional the service is - people who know what they're doing. Have enjoyed the food here, particularly the fish dishes. Have nosed out some gems in the wine list with a great European selection. BG wont' set the world on fire with innovation, but it will make you feel very warm and comfortable. Also love the open fire for a drink.
The more I go to restaurants the more I enjoy the times that are relaxed and easy. Even the place that has the most attitude is more warm and friendly at lunch or in between! BG is really a great bistro without anything special but I had excellent company, food and service today and completely recommend this place. Judging by the other reviewers it is just as good at really busy times!
TUES NITE DINNER WITH CHEF. 9/4/13 Early 6.30pm dinner. Warmly welcomed, invited to bar or; be seated at our table. Considering their bar is such a lovely meeting place, definitely worth remembering as a destination for a catch up with friends over winter around a fireplace.
DRANK: NV Veuve Cliquot glass & Little Creatures beer
Btl Henri Boillot Bourgogne Blanc
ATE: Shucked Oysters Natural and with condiments
Croque Madame with Blue Swimmer Crab
Petuna ocean trout w/ spiced cucumber melon & horseradish aioli
Assiette of Charcuterie
Selection de fromages x 3
By 7.30pm there was not an empty chair to be had. The locals are fortunate Bistro Gitan has landed nearby and wise enough to book ahead. Love an open kitchen to see who's cooking, the pressure mounting as orders are called and the good cheer of a room full of happy diners. Bistro Gitan now a regular favourite. Highly Recommended.
Really enjoyed our meal at Gitan the other night, really enjoyed it indeed. Delicious whitebait starters, bread, pork belly, red wine and creme brûlée, what's not to like? Service was impeccable, helpful and knowledgeable without being too clingy - just polished, professional and well executed.
Great food & service. Portions not huge but good quality. Staff we're very friendly and helpful. Can't fault it.
Good "buzz" restaurant. Had lunch at BG the food is delicious, the service good and atmosphere agreeable. But like most "buzz' restaurants the mains are mere morsels and have to be augmented with sides, all adding to the cost. Really not a huge menu choice and missed many of the traditional French dishes. Oh well, for those it seems I will still have to go to Paris!!!
Loved it. Delicious food, the decor and atmosphere welcoming and very attractive. Staff all friendly and very unpretentious. Best dining experience we've had in quite a while. Will be back for sure.
Good local. Nice little place the food is reasonably good the service a bit hit and miss but overall probably better than france soir . def will be back
Wholesome meals at Bistro Gitan!. Anywhere that does a crab lasagna I am there. Love my crab and they do a good one here. Service was a highlight, they really went out of their way to look after us. Definitely recommend this one.
Delicious!!. I had the pork parmentier, which had delicious bite size chunks of pork belly, and brussel sprouts in it, topped with creamy mashed potato, it was beautiful, and for desert just couldn't got past the creme brulee, one of the best I've had. I was torn between the duck leg and the pork pie, very happy with my choice, but my friend had the duck and said it was delicious too!
The wine list is extensive, and good quality.
We all had lovely meals, the setting is quite nice, a little crowded but the food is worth it.
Will definitely go back.
Oh my bavette!. I went here with a large group (ten) and the team at Gitan could not have been better. We had several different food allergies which they catered for amazingly, even going so far as to create a dessert for our lactose-allergic friend when the last dessert that he could have eaten was sold out. The wine was amazing and their resident sommelier knowledgeable but not pushy.
The food was really good, in particular the bavette, which we ordered 1.5 kgs of to share - AH-MAZING. The french onion soup was ok (I've had better in Melbourne) but still tasty and all the desserts not only beautiful to look at, but beautiful to eat.
Definitely on the list to revisit soon!
A regular visitor now... So much so the staff know me which is fun. Menu is lovely and always changing. Wine list is great and they are always on hand to recommend - very knowledgable. Great to sit in front of the fire with a glass of wine to wind down
Magnifique. Took my family for my daughters birthday and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Great food, service and ambience. One of my favourites now.
Big Eyes For A Big Tummy

Was here for dinner last night. Thoroughly enjoyed the meals, in particular the appetizers and entrees. Highlights were the crab lasagne and pigs trotter. Mains were very generous servings but unfortunately my spatchcock dish was undercooked. Chef agreed and the staff was efficient in replacing the dish. Desserts were good - we had the creme brulee and madaleines, nicely warm and crisp. Service was brisk being a very busy night. I'd definitely go back to try the rest on the entree and appetizer list!
Hidden gem. I'm so glad someone recommended this hidden gem because we had the most beautiful dinner here. Such a cosy, warm atmosphere; terrific wait staff who strike the perfect balance between helpful and relaxed; and unpretentious, simple food with outstanding flavour. No foam in sight! I had the most outstanding pork shepard's pie cooked in apple cider. Compliments to the chef. I highly recommend Bistro Gitan.
Went here for my birthday celebration and couldn't have asked for a better night. The wait staff were amongst the best I've ever experienced! We ordered extensively from the menu, the pate was a stand out. It was nice to see the spatchcock cooked correctly, still pink, the way it should be. Perfect!
Great restaurant, excellent food quality. Staff are friendly and helpful. Lot of good and interesting offers on the wine list (by the bottle) which I would like to come back and try someday. Food is a pairing of classic French techniques with fresh and local ingredients.
A truly special dining experience. Exceptional service, super delicious food, good size portions and good prices. The manager Marseille made us feel so welcome as if we were dining in his home, our waitress was informed and very attentive, the atmosphere is intimate but lively. Have already booked my next visit!
A really nice French restaurant đ«đ·
Got their eye fillet with fries and a side salad đ€©
Really nice well cooked medium rare steak. They serve it with a pepper sauce gravy which is good and especially good for dipping the chips in. The cheaper Pinot noir on the wines by the glass list is very good! Soft and fruity and smooth. Shiraz is ok too. đ„©đđ„đ·
We celebrated our Anniversary with 14 guests and from the minute we walked in until the time we left we felt thrilled that we had booked this amazing restaurant. The staff were outstanding, the food was the best Iâve had and all members of our party agreed. The wines, drinks list were excellent. We thank Edward and all the amazing staff for making this evening SO special. Mike & Moira Dobson
This is my second visit and I have to say this is a high quality private relaxed dining experience. The staff are very well read and know their menus. Could not fault our Appetisers or mains, a large wine selection for all combinations. We decided a cheese board over a dessert and it completely complimented the Fish and steak had for mains. I honestly think you could order anything in this restaurant and walk away satisfied.
I came for my girlfriends birthday and it was good but unfortunately not great. The service is good and they check in with you regularly. The food came out so quick! I thought they were in a rush perhaps. But the issue is the food is good but just not that amazing. Oysters đŠȘ seemed not zesty fresh, in fact looked a little strange. The fish entree was not quite right either. But the pate was really good. The steam was ordered medium to avoid the undercooking that is common. It was ok in parts but rare almost blue in others. Definitely not as ordered. For the price I would have expected more. But the dessert was amazing! Cream brĂ»lĂ©e was outstanding! If I could give 4.5 stars I would. I think your experience depends a lot on what you order. The more French the better it is!
Had an amazing experience here for me wife's birthday. I have no idea why I had not found this restaurant before but rest assured we will be back.
Great food, great cocktails and wine and excellent service.
Sometimes you go out to dinner and are underwhelmed by the quality of cooking, knowledge of service, general ambience. This will not happen at Bistro Gitan. The warm greetings, the muted lighting, space between tables, knowledgeable and intuitive service staff and the food: well there is no chance I'd come even close to what was served for it was sensational for each person in our party of 4.
