One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the heart of chapel st. This spot has always been Mexican and took a level up when Hecho en Mexico took over!
I remember coming to this location for years as kid. It has always been Mexican but has changed brands a few times. I hope HECHO stay, because they are by far the best Mexican that has been here. Tacos and Burritos were a hit between me and my friends!
If you love nachos and margaritas as much as we do then you’ll love Hecho en Mexico. Good vibes, food and drinks. Our go to Mexican fix.
Love the vibes at Hecho En Mexico! The staff are super friendly and outgoing, and the food is delicious.
We ordered the Chorizo Quesadilla and the corn chips, salsa and guacamole. The portions were big and the chorizo was full of flavour. We also had a jug of the Red Sangria to share which was very refreshing and good value.
It's a decent size menu here so I can't wait to come back and try some more - the Spanish Paella looks especially good!
Best Mexican joint in Melbourne by far. Every bite bursted with flavour and left you wanting more. Can't go wrong with the fish tacos and grilled chicken chimichanga. Life changing! Cannot wait to go back again.
Genuinely surprised at some of the low scoring reviews, this is one of my favourite Mexican restaurants and I have also been to the Brighton location twice.
The staff are always friendly, service is prompt, food always tastes good and the prices are reasonable.
Nachos are one of my favourite dishes on the menu, they come PILED with toppings! The burritos are comparatively on the smaller side but still packed with a lot of rice and meat so are filling. The tacos are fantastic, I only wish they came in a serve of more than 1. My favourite filling is the prawn which has a really refreshing mango salsa with it.
I will definitely be back again, love this place!
We ordered Quesadilla and burrito. They were tasty, filling and good bang for buck. Service is good and prompt. Worth coming back to try other menu items.
Hecho En Mexico while not being particularly busy when I was there, had an extra level of attentiveness from staff. Great $10 cocktail deal before 6pm which my partner and I capitalised on. Entrees were all standouts while the burrito main was somewhat lacking to meet high standard set by entrees.
Casual, tasty, efficient.. More authentic than other “Mexican” places in the city but still a bit westernized... the burritos were really tasty, the fajitas were good, a bit tiny the tortillas. Anyway it’s not a bad place to go for a Mexican craving! Love the bottles of tequila used for the water!
Had the shrimp and beef taco and the stuffed halapenos. Loved them. The cocktail s are also excellent. Quick service. Friendly staff. If U r going for a movie at Jam factory, it's a great place for a quick dinner before or after.
The BEST nachos ever!! I’ve been getting them once a week for the last year, and they never disappoint! Everyone that has tried them agrees with me.
Best place for Tacos on Chapel st! Always fresh and really high quality food. We are locals and Hecho is the best Mexican restaurant. Definitely recommend!!
We stumbled upon Hecho En Mexico for a quick bite before a movie. It was surprisingly quiet for a Sunday, especially considering how delicious their food is!
We ordered Tacos; Beef (w/ basil aioli, salsa verde & mango corn salsa) and Fish (w/ slaw & garlic jalapeno aioli) and the Nachos (w/chilli con carne).
It was some the best tacos and nachos I've ever had! The ingredients were fresh and vibrant and the filling proportions were perfect :) The Mojito and Jamaican (hibiscus) mocktails were also super delish!
Overall, funky interior with punchy Mexican food! Winning!
Nice place to go. I would like to try again. : ) The decoration here is gorgeous. And the food is really good too. Jalapeño is my favorite. Haha.
Had a lunch date here with a friend yesterday. Ended up waiting an hour for her because she went to their Brunswick branch instead 🤦♀️
Feeling peckish while waiting for her to Uber over, I ordered a bowl chilli fries to snack on. The combination of chilli con carne, pico de gallo, chipotle mayo and sour cream on top of the fries worked so well. I was going to pace myself so that I don’t fill up before my friend arrives, but it was so good that I couldn’t stop eating. She had the other half when she came and agreed that it was really good.
We weren’t feeling too hungry that day and wanted to leave room for dessert, so we decided to share a portion of shredded beef quesadilla. The beef was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Full of flavour and melt in your mouth deliciousness.
We finished off with their warm chocolate brownie presented on a hot plate with chocolate sauce drizzled on top at our table. On a cold winter’s day, that brownie was a perfect ending to our gastro adventure.
Service was warm and inviting from the start. Manager Kevin was very attentive and constantly checked up on us. Ambience was lovely with attention to detail surrounding decor and a bar well stocked with a wide range of tequila. All in all, there’s nothing I can fault.
had a family dinner here late last sunday. food was great. service was great, atmosphere good. we all left happy and satisfied. will come back again if in the area. thank you to the staff for being so courteous as we were the last to leave.
Platter for two! Quesadillas, corn cobs, nachos, empanadas and jarritos. What more can you ask for? Oh, I forgot to mention the chips! My friend couldn’t keep his hands off the food long enough so that I could get a decent picture. Can’t blame him, I could not wait to dig in either!! It was lip smacking good.
Seriously underrated. Have not heard much about this place in the Melbourne’s best Mexican discussion, but was recommended by a friend to go and try,
I went in a group of 4 and shared the nachos, chilli con Carne fries and burrito and was very impressed with each.
Kudos too for the lunch special of a burrito and soft drink for $12, and add in chips for $15. It also helps out that the lunch special goes from 12-6.
Definitely do recommend
Massive fan of this place. Really decent fish tacos (soft shell with fried fish was better) with a wedge of lemon for seasoning with creamy guac. Wish there was more for the price but excellent quality. Dessert tried was a sizzling plate brownie which did admittedly get burnt but was rich and thick. Wish there was also more sauce and more to the batter but otherwise great.
This place is a must!! Food is so unbelievably tasty, reasonably priced and the staff could not be more friendly! Have been a handful of times now and each time it has been as tasty as the first!
Had dinner with a friend on a Saturday night. We were seated and served immediately. I ordered the beef taquitos and a fish taco. Both were so delicious and the taquitos were much bigger than i expected. We also ordered a jug of passionfruit margarita. Our food came out very fast, before our drink even. The margarita was very strong but no complaints, it paired deliciously with our meal. Ill definitely be back
The wife and I ventured here on a busy Friday evening; we'd previously been to the Fitzroy edition and were reassured by the seeming popularity of this venue. We rolled out a while after, having ordered what we thought was a reasonable quantity of food (a fish taco, a bowl of corn tortillas and a quesadilla) and after having a small lunch beforehand.
The only lost half-mark was for slightly tardy service; while the staff were lovely, there was a slight wait for food and drinks to appear. The food was, as previously implied, served in generous proportions, good value for money and very flavoursome. The restaurant was a pleasant place to enjoy the meal, the smell of tasty food lingering in the air, the buzz of other diners enjoying their meals. A thoroughly enjoyable feed at a nice little restaurant - we would not hesitate to return.
Great Mexican food, a mix of traditional and modern dishes & flavours with fresh ingredients.
Some of the best nachos I've ever had, made with generous amount of toppings and the pulled pork was tender and delicious.
Add to that great cocktails, Attentive service and good vibe I couldn't really fault Hencho En Mexico Sth Yarra.

One of really good Mexican place in Melbourne. Food are tasty and traditional. Their tequila selections are outstanding. And best chicken fajita that I ever tasted.😊😊
Excellent service! Kevin, the manager was the most friendly and explained us the culinary approach bravely and confidently (knowing that we were Mexican).
The place is full of happy people everyone in the kitchen and the wait staff greeted us with a smile.
That good nature is palatable in the food which is cooked to perfection and well seasoned. I’m a lime and coriander person and they made me happy we that!
Extra pound for thinking of good vegetarian options. :)
The waitress was amazing despite being the only one on the floor. Extremely helpful and friendly. Food was great, the menu describes everything in detail if you’re a picky eater and they have a LARGE list of drinks. I’ll definitely go back.
There are two Hencho’s in Melbourne town and The Dear Luncher managed to get long to the South Yarra branch recently for a dinner. Accompanied by Comrade Luncher from the Waverley division of the Luncher Politburo; the mission to smash down a bunch of Mexican grub commenced.
Amazing food and atmosphere, great customer service, staff are super friendly, meal portions are very generous, the margaritas are absolutely delicious!!!! Would have loved to see a spicy michelada option in the drinks menu, but regardless, we had a great experience overall. By far one of the best Mexican restaurants in town, would definitely recommend and come back for more!
the wall pictures are so cool. I love the Chilli Fries, the sauce has a little sour but could be accepted.
good service and fast service. If go there at night, it will be better I believe, daylight not suit for alcohol drinks.
We've been trying to find a decent Mexican place for so so long, and we've finally found the one! Phenomenal food and really nice service. When you ask for spicy, it's actually spicy which is such a nice change for someone who loves spice and deals with it super well. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Delicious Mexican food, we had the corn followed by the chimichanga and enchilada. All super yummy, large portion sizes and reasonably priced what more could a student want. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu.
Great place Hecho, i've been there twice recently will probably be a regular visitor when i want mexican. There's all different ranges of spices so if you're not really a spicey head go for mild or soft, but if you're daring there's extra hot. The nachos are amazing, def add a topping to it if you're feeling like having something a bit extra with your nachos that's why hecho is the perfect place when you want that something extra. I always get tequila with my meal and it just goes perfectly as it's mexican but it's very strong but it's good for the amount of food you will be getting. I got quesadillas with chicken yum! also i got spicy nachos with that the first time. The second time i got a buritto with chicken and the nachos without the chicken, i def prefered the second time as it tasted so much better, will def be a frequent visitor.
I remember this venue use to be called Amigos which served Mexican food too so I'm not too sure around the story of what happened with the revamp of the name and menu however what I can say that it's definitely for the better ! 🙂
Very busy place and not a table empty even when we left .
Service was friendly and quite quick though sometimes I think to myself why don't waiters/waitresses think that when you sit on a small table there's only so many plates of food you can put on it ...
Anyway back to the review , get the fish tacos ! Fish tacos that actually have flavour ! 🙂
Their nachos is quite good too and definitely try their chilli margarita . Slightly on the peppery side but quite spicy.
One thing I wasn't a fan of was the frozen margaritas which I didn't know that most of them were. So definitely ask to make sure the margarita you're ordering isn't frozen FYI the chilli one isn't frozen.
We were wandering on Saturday night along Chapel St, South Yarra and we found a catchy Mexican restaurant. The restaurant logo was very attractive and funky, we were dragged by our curiosity. When we entered the restaurant we were welcomed by a lovely and friendly waitstaff.
Unfortunately, the music was too loud on the weekend mixed with the crowd; It was difficult to have a chat with mates, therefore we had to move the table few times to get distance with the noise.Despite of that the customer staffs were still served us with smile; The customer service was absolutely fantastic.
We ordered :
1. Nachos (corn chips with cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream, jalapenos, black beans, salsa and chipotle aioli) with additional of shredded beef for $15.50 + Meal upgrade (Chips and a can of beer) for $8.00
We loved the Nachos, it was served hot and crispy with the melted cheese on top of the nachos. The portion was really generous.The presentation was absolutely brilliant and very appealing; The Nachos had really good, rich and balance taste;
As we enjoyed this Nachos, we would definitely recommend this one.Unfortunately, the chips weren't crispy enough and little bit greasy;
2. Sangria (red wine, orange juice, lemonade & chopped fruits) for $7.50The drink was also great and very fresh mixed with chopped fruits (strawberries); The Sangria was fantastic **Must try!
Overall, we had a great night in this Mexican restaurant and definitely come back.
Yay : The nachos was fantastic and generous portionNay : The music was too loud, chips were little bit greasy

Went with friends and had a fantastic experience. The food was amazing as was the Margarita. Service was great from the minute we walked in . Absolutely recommend!
We has dinner here last night. We started with the corn on the cob. I liked the Chipotle butter on the corn. They had a good char and really juicy.
For mains we had the crispy vegetarian tacos and the veggie burrito. Both of them had similar fillings beans and pan fried vegetable along with rice in the burrito. Portion sizes of both are meals was really good. Lovely ambience and helpful staff.
How good is this place, like seriously everything was spot on. Me and my family are huge Mexican fans and absolutely loved what this restaurant had on offer. Not everyone does chimichangas but there's was perfect. Try classic lime margarita.
I had a great lunch experience at Hecho. The service was quick and efficient and the food came quickly also. Across the board everyone enjoyed the food and it was presented nicely. I tried the chilli corn carne which was packed of flavour and had quite the chilli hit. I wouldn't recommend it for those who can't take spice. It was also a suprisingly big serving size (for the prize) and the guacamole tasted really fresh and light. My friend who had the ensalada was having it for the second time and said it was great (just as delicious as the first time). There's heaps of options in the menu but many of the items have choice options of meat and veg.
Great food, good portion size and hippy ambience with lots of Mexican graffiti. Highly recommended to Mexican lovers. We tried lime margarita and a strawberry mojito, both were yummy and had the kick we needed.
I was shopping on the chapel st with my friend and accidentally stumble into this small place. We didn't expect it at all. While the food is so amazing and very Mexican. You shouldn't believe Zomato score sometimes. This place is definitely being underrated. It should be 4+
Sunday night dinner made awesome. Loved every bit of it. Ordered nachos and strawberry margarita, yumm food with lots of flavours and the drink was very refreshing.
Awesome service! Tecate beer is the best beer for me! Went here randomly and we end up as our new favourite dining place, the ambiance is good nothing special
Went along with a groupon deal, and was so happy with the experience we will definitely be going back! Food was everything you expect from a Melbourne Mexican joint, service was nice and most importantly the beers were cold! They were happy to make 1 or 2 changes to the menu for dietary requirements, which is always a plus. 8/10 would eat here again
WOW! Loved the California Burrito. Lots of yummy filling. Really relaxing atmosphere. Service was minimal but did the job. Overall a great place for some good Mexican.
Three of us dropped on on a relatively busy Saturday night and were instantly accommodated with a cosy table up the back of the restaurant. The place is colourful with lashings of Mexican decor everywhere which certainly add to the fun vibe and experience. The menu features colourful and appetising photos of the dishes, which certainly don't fail to deliver. Portion sizes are generous and the food is full of flavour. Fortunately for us (especially as we had a movie to catch afterwards), the service was efficient without compromising on customer service or quality.
As I am a foodie person, I like to taste different and the food of hecho was amazing and I don't have any words to explain the test of it and one more thing which make it different from other which is their friendly atmosphere and design of hotel
So I recommend to test at least once.
Nice place to eat at nice location. When ever you think mexican food just visit hecho en mexico. The best place to eat. You will forget all others. From a range of mexican products to choose from with finger licking taste.
Always 5 out of 5 😋😋All time favourite 😍superb customer service and tasty food in very reasonable cost 😋😍go and experience it once.😋😋😋😋😋
Went for dinner on a monday night and this place was kinda busy for monday. Started with some chilli fries and my partner had 2 pieces of corn. Both the dishes were delicious. We then had chk fajitas and nachos to share and we just loved it, it hit the spot. Just what we wanted. Will be back.
On a Saturday night..we were lucky to have open this ine so late...stuffs were really sporty and welcame us for the dinner. However thw food was not that good...taste was avg...generously they added sour cream everywhere...did taste good...anyway i will try again...
Absolute gem of a place. The food is great, drinks are yummy and ambience is very Mexican. Tried chicken burrito and lime margarita and loved it.
The best Mexican food, very authentic and fresh. Great atmosphere and great service, what more could you ask for! This was our first time here. The Nachos and Burritos were delicious. We will be back!

Lightening and sitting arrangement is awesome.
It worth more then you actually pay for it ......😉😉
Yummy food, delicioso drinks. My friends loved it too. Fajitas are highly recommended. Cucumber margarita and strawberry mojitos were out of this world.
Never disappointed, always fresh and full of flavour. Staff are lovely and there's great outdoor seating. Great vegetarian options. Some of the best Mexican I've ever had.
