Review The Horn Of Africa - Southport

It was our first time having Ethiopian food. The waitress was fantastic, she helped us choose our dishes, washed our hands, explained it all and the overall experience was great. Thank You, we hope your cafe is very successful.

First time trying Ethiopian food and it was YUMMY! Full of flavour, fresh ingredients and good portion sizes, we left feeling full and satisfied. The owners/staff were very friendly. We'll definitely be coming back.

Wonderful friendly service. Food has so much flavour and tastes like it's home cooked.

Happened to stumble upon this small restaurant while walking through Southport, we were greeted with traditional tea by the lovely owner and our food came quickly and was absolutely delicious

So yum! I didn't know what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised with a huge tasty meal. They have a good selection of vegetarian options. I can't wait to try more!

Awesome food, great value, and a great experience. I love the shared plates, and having fresh njera (a cold pancake type thing) with either lentils or meat in Ethiopian style. I have never had such epic flavours as in this place. It's like nothing you have had before, so come with an open mind and try something new!! The place is a cute little cafe run by a local Ethiopian lady, with a very casual decor and right on the tram sto which makes is really convenient. We come here with groups of friends at least once a month now - that's how much we love it!!!

Great customer service. The lady put more food in our plate than what we ordered. She was very friendly and the food was pretty tasty. Great to have restaurants offering foods from other cultures in the town. Highly recommended

Love this place. Fresh food, full of flavour, nice people.
Before you eat they bring out a basin and pour water for you so you can wash your hands.
The service is fast and friendly. I had the non-spicy mince with injera and a boiled egg - the mince is really tasty, full of well-developed flavour.
Injera is kind of like a savoury pancake or crepe, with a slightly sour taste, kid of like lime juice.
If you like COFFEE - go here. The coffee is made from fresh green Ethiopian beans, roasted right there in the restaurant. They bring it in a traditional pottery jug and you pour it into little espresso cups. It's strong and rich - great for a lunchtime pick-me-up! The young lady even showed me how they roast the beans in a little pan over a gas cooker (traditionally done on charcoal). If you're lucky (or maybe if you ask) they will heat up some charcoal and throw fragrant resin incense over it to create a beautiful earthy scent - so exotic! You can buy both the coffee beans and the incense if you want to take some home.
Ethiopian culture is ancient and we're so lucky to have this restaurant here on the Gold Coast. Well worth a visit. I hope this restaurant is well supported so it stays for a long time.

The best African food that I have ever tried!I would recommend any person who is either looking to try out a new type of food, or is accustomed to food from this part of the world to come and try it out.You won't be disappointed.

Why oh why do they not do a tasting plate where you can sample a few of the dishes all at once? This is how the Ethiopian restaurant by my old house did things and it was a big hit! Everyone could share and you could figure out which dishes you did and didn't like from the first visit. If they start doing this I'll return. Until then my dish was okay but too much of the same flavour, I need variety when it comes to Ethiopian food.
