We went here during our holiday in the GC and after seeing my friends post on the Halo Halo, I knew we had to eat there. Well, what can I say? Absolutely delicious and authentic Filipino food. Staff were friendly upon arrival and we had made a reservation (which I suggest you do as it got really busy once we arrived). We ordered the chicken adobo, inasal manok (chicken) and my husband ordered the cripsy pata!! From start to finish we loved every bite, the cripsy pata was a good size and was so crispy. The kids enjoyed the food thoroughly and this so far has been the best filipino restaurant we have ever been to. We finished our meal off with Halo Halo and again this was one of the best I've had and we have a had a few different Halo Halo's including in the phils but this was so nice!! We highly recommend this eatery and if you have never, ever tried Filipino food the min drive out of surfers will be one the best decisions you make. Make sure you make reservations. Thank you again Kubo's Bar and Grill!! We even made a vlog on YouTube if you would like to watch. Search Family Life Discovery.

We went here when we visited GC.We were craving for Filipino foods after more than a week of having typical OZ food and I have to say food is really fantastic! Their crispy pata is so far one of the best we ever tasted! Darn tender meat coated with damn crispy skin! So impressed with the food that I even asked to take photo with the chef/owner Jake and another dude chef ( 1st time we did that.haha). Food are reasonably priced as well. Highly recommended!

We drove from north of Brisbane just to try this joint out roughly an hour and a half or so and hands down great Pinoy food in the Southeast Queensland so far besides when mama cooks for you! It’s hard to come by Filipino restaurants like this around the Brisbane and Gold Coast region that is done very well. You can see it in the food when it comes to your table, it’s done professionally and presented well. The food itself was delicious, it was perfectly balanced and seasoned nicely. The crispy pata was amazing! It was moist and the skin was crispy and you can just taste the nuances of Lechon flavors in every bite! The service was fantastic, very friendly and accommodating and of course done with a smile! We will definitely drive patiently for another hour and a half to eat at your restaurant again! And this time will bring more people with us to spread the word of mouth.

Great food & topnotch customer service We came late but we did not feel any angst from the staff. The dishes came fast & everything was delicious & well presented. Our friends from interstate & central queensland enjoyed the experience. Would definitely recommend to fellow Pinoys & aussie friends. Sisig, crispy pata, bulalo, chopsuey with tengang daga made us forget we're miles away from home. The halohalo to share is just amazing - looks good & tasted even better.

Authentic Filipino cuisine: kare-kare, crispy pata, inasal na manok, pork barbeque and inihaw na liempo platter (for the grandchildren). Dessert was Halo-halo that was huge. Highly recommended. Five star rating. (Marvin)

Kubo's in Southport comes highly recommended by some Filipino friends for awesomely authentic Filipino cuisine. It was certainly popular and we could only book for an early lunch at 11am because the 12:30pm sitting was already full. Good thing we did book as I saw a number of walk-in customers turned away.

We ordered:
* lechon kawali (crispy deep fried pork belly), $22.80
* lumpiang Shanghai (spring rolls), $8.80
* tokwat baboy, $16.80 - boiled pork pieces, deep-fried tofu cubes and dipping mixture of vinegar, soy sauce, shallots and chili peppers
* crispy calamari, $7.80
* chicken bucket (dozen), $21.80 - crispy fried chicken, hand-tossed with one of 3 sauces, of which we chose the honey garlic
* chicken & pork sinugba (grilled meat) platter, $54.80 - combination of pork and chicken barbeque skewers, inihaw na liempo (grilled pork belly), and insal na manok (grilled marinated chicken)
* pork barbeque skewers, $20.80
* canton bihon (stir fried egg and rice noodles), $17.80
* kaldiro (rice; 1 pot), $10

Wow. Full feast mode! My favourites were the fried and marinated chicken elements, followed by the pork skewers and the pork belly dish. Will have to try the crispy pata (house specialty of deep fried pig knuckle) another time, as it was out of stock when we visited.

We also bought some desserts to bring home for afternoon tea:

* leche flan (crème caramel), $9.80 | This was my favourite and I left it for last cos I've had it before so knew it should be awesome, and this one certainly was.
* puto leche, $9.50 | combining some of the custard element of the leche flan with a layer of steamed bun / cake. It was an unfamiliar pairing but with familiar elements. The cake layer balances out the sweetness of the custard layer - second favourite.
* pandan braso, $7.50 | This is a meringue roll with custard filling. The full name (brazo de Mercedez) means "Arm of Our Lady of Mercy" in Spanish and the dessert dates back to Spanish colonial times. This version had pandan flavouring and whilst it was nice to try I initially thought this was a cake roll and didn't realise it was meringue until cutting into it. Overall I prefer desserts with firmer texture and a bit more bite.

There are a lot more options in their dessert cabinet though so I'll look forward to sampling others in the range on future visits. Any suggestions for what to try next?

Our total bill was just shy of $240 (for 6 adults and 6 kids) - we were all quite full and left with a box of leftovers plus some desserts for later (more next post). This has definitely got me keen to check out their newer Brisbane branch which is a much closer option. Hopefully the mixed reviews of that store and reports of service issues will have all settled by the time I visit.

Visited the Gold Coast over the weekend and discovered a Filipino restaurant. We already had lunch hence we decided to just drop in to try out their halo halo (popular Filipino dessert). At $9, it wasn’t a cheap dessert- however the size was quite generous. Our only comment was we wished they had a bit more condiments in it.

Had the best Filipino lunch at Kubo’s Bar & Grill 🇵🇭🥰💚 Everything down to the customer service, food, presentation and ambiance was amazing. I was transported straight to Cebu! ✅ I loved the pancit canton noodles, they tasted just like my dad’s. My mum and stepdad loved their Pinoy BBQ too! And of course the best part of every meal, dessert! 🍨Every aspect of their #halohalo was carefully constructed and also the ube leche flan was to die for 💜😍🙏🏼 Kubo is definitely a family favourite and we will definitely continue to support this Filipino business!

Kubo's didn't disappoint. One thing that Filipinos do well is pork, and this delivered. Halo halo is a must try if you come here or the Philippines, it is something of a visual treat for the eyes.I'm definitely going to come back again, the buko pie and other desserts they have in their shelves look delicious.

We always come for Crispy Pata Pa, but today on New Years day they ran out ! 😭 Soo we decided on all the other pork dishes to substitute. The Adobo and Pork Belly with Pilaf Rice .. sensational start to our year/hell of a hangover we had! . Though it was packed of people they quickly divided tables and seated us quickly. Portions are massive for the price you pay so come hungry! Happy New Year Kubo, you will see Paul Lay andI soon.

Discovered an interesting Filipino dessert: 'Halo Halo' shaved ice. 'Halo Halo' meaning 'to mix, hence mixing the ingredients together' ($16.50).
❤Ingredients include:
🖋Ube flavoured ice cream (Taro) and Vanilla flavour.
🖋Jelly assortments: lime, original, coconut, raspberry.
🖋Creamy/evaporated milk.
🖋Ube flavoured waffle stick.
🖋Jackfruit. 🖋Shaved ice.
✔ Lovely restaurant service. ✔ Yummy unique dessert.
✔ Fair prices. ✔ Beautiful atmosphere.

Owned by Jake and Clifford Gutierrez, Kubo’s Café Bar & Grill in Australia Fair Metro is a rare Filipino food presence on the coast, finding its audience immediately. “We’re really happy to bring Filipino food to the Gold Coast,” Jake tells us, “especially food we love eating at home.”

Hello tasty! Big portions, big taste - finally, a Filipino restaurant that captures the magic of the Phillipines!

Filipino food is one of the best kept secrets in world cuisine if you have never had the pleasure of experiencing it, and out of all the places I have attended, Kubos wow's more than any other.

So, what's all the fuss? Well, before we even get to our dishes, there's an extensive bar - including Filipino legendary beer Red Horse and another favourite in San Miguel.

Better still, there is a brekkie menu, great choice of deserts and even many traditional, non Filipino menu items such as burgers, chicken and steak.

The menus even go to the trouble of listing the best seller, chefs recommendation and more, while there is a massive choice of offers.

I plumbed for the grilled Chicken - Inasal na Manok - which is basically marinated chicken (available as a quarter with chips or as a half) that comes with lime, pepper, vinegar and annatto. The chicken was truly delicious, although could have been a fraction softer. Lovely marinade, and when adding the liquid mixture, had a plateful of personality. Loved it!

The Porchero (slow simmered beef shanks with corn and Bok choy) was as MJ said 'fresh', big and delicious, beautifully cooked meat and lovely liquid. The rice complimented it perfectly and was beautiful rice. Lacking some bowls and a great big wedge of freshly made bread, but magnificent to say the least.

Why we didn't end with a Halo Halo I will never know, but that's one for next time. Recommend this place above all the others and it's a great one to add to your Gold Coast to do list.

The food here is absolutely amazing! We had the fried chicken skin, the beef soup, fried rice and the grilled pork and chicken but the favourite for me was the sword fish ceviche. Absolutely to die for. Fresh and crunchy vegetables and the fish was beautiful. Have recommended to all my friends.

Absolutely delicious! Very authentic filipino food. The pinakbet was my favourite and definitely the best among all the dish I tried around Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. The grilled bbq reminds me of the bbq in Aristocrat and the tilapia was smooth and tender. I will definitely come back here when I visit Goldcoast again. Thank you for the great experience.

3.75 ⭐ - friendly service and menu had a big variety. Tried the crispy pata - the sauce was flavourful, unfortunately most of the meat was quite dry and the skin wasn't very crispy Also got the halo halo - quite a heavy dessert, would recommend sharing but overall tasty
