Review Cultural Commons - Springvale

Amazing would be really less for the experience we had. I really loved the mushroom burger and onion rings. My friends also really liked the hot chik burger and cheesy garlic bread . Will definitely be back.

While there were no chicken wings available (so can't rate them) they burgers were absolutely delish. Chips were got crunch and fluffy and they onion rings spot on. Tried the Lamb ribs - yeah nah bit chewy. Aside from that really enjoyed.

A very nice burger joint in springvale. The burgers were delicious and they also catered to vegetarians which was very nice. I had a vegetarian burger and it was very nice. The patty wasn't dry and overall it was very flavorful and I really enjoyed it. The waiters were also very nice and the burgers were served quite fast. Overall very enjoyable and would definitely visit again.

Best burgers in town. Juicy patty, fresh veggies and amazing sauce. The best of all, you don’t have to use fork and knife. That means those are real burgers. Not like those obnoxiously big ‘burgers’ with lazy craftsmanship trying to get away without actually combining great flavours to delicately create something amazing.

Great large size venue for birthdays or functions. Food was better than expected. Good selection of food and drinks. Great friendly staff that enjoy a laugh.

Ordered the chicken burger and the half rack of beef short ribs. Absolutely loved the burger! Was amazing chicken is so crispy and has great flavour can't recommend it enough. Ordered a beef burger also that was amazing they do a sick job with the burgers! The beef short ribs on the other hand I felt where abit of a let down. It was very thick and abit chewy. I found once the outside sauce disappeared all I was eating was a hunk of un flavoured cooked meat. In saying that it could of been just the serve I had like this. Value for money I probably wouldn't get it again incase I got the same serve. Still highly recommend this place. Hidden gem!

This place has a nice interior and decoration. Parking space was reasonably easy to spot at the back and side street. Burgers were super delicious. We had the vegetarian one and soft shell crab. Nutella waffle was ok, ordinary. Will revisit this place for sure.

This place was so big inside and so nicely decorated and bro the food is soo delectable i just wanna bathe in it, and dude the hot chick burger man that was juicy and crispy, i had a bite of the soft shell crab and the american nightmare it was soo f-ing good, also you might remember me i was the little kid from yesterday and i ordered a hot chick my sister ordered the american nightmare and my dad ordered the soft shell crab and it was a 10/10 i would highly recommended it

I used to like this place but last night was a below average experience. Walked in the door and stood at the counter while the 4 staff behind the counter just ignored me and kept chatting. My friends and I just took a seat at a table and grabbed our own menus. We were finally served by what looked like the only staff member other than the cooks doing their job, he was busing tables, bringing out food and serving people all on his own while the 4 other staff members just kept chatting, laughing and looking all but professional. I’ve been to cultural commons about 7-8 times and this experience has soured this place for me. That poor guy doing all the work himself. The other staff should be ashamed. The food was still good like it always is but the service was below average.

My partner and I went to cultural commons last night after seeing the great reviews and photos on instagram fb etc.. HUGE dissapointment ! We had the platter for two, The ribs were mainly bones and the slight amount of meat that was on it, was undercook. The slow lamb were dry and tasteless. The sausage was just ok. The coleslaw salad was alright and the chips were just normal chips. OVERALL you pay $80 for a meal which is not even worth $50. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. However we probably should have try the burgers (it is probably better than their "slow cook bbq") and the reason why this place is busy.

After reading great reviews, we were looking forward to visiting a burger/smoked meat place in Springvale. Sadly we were disappointed. The service lacked any flow or structure to it. Drinks took at least 30 minutes. We would have easily drank more if the service was better. It didn't appear that anyone was really in charge. We wrote down our own food order as we were a group of 16 including kids. Many of the ordered items didn't make it to the table. What did come out was hit or miss. Some people enjoyed theirs, others couldn't eat the chicken burger because it was barely cooked through and extremely salty. We get that the beef burgers are served medium but they were more on the rare to medium rare side. We missed out on the brussel sprout dish and the mac cheese kimchi which sounded interesting but they were missing in action. I know it's difficult to serve large groups but a little more organisation with front of house and the kitchen and it will be a great place. We won't write it off, but with some tweeking, it could be an absolute gold mine in an area not known for burgers.

What a fantastic place, partner had the 12hour slow cooked brisket, meat was to die for, I had The American Dream, so tasty, chips and onion rings delicious. Staff were so friendly and food arrived very quick. Totally recommend this little hideaway in Springvale. Do yourself a favour. Well done .
Lauren Carpenter
Dissapointed after hearing such good things about this place. Great chips and chicken wings but the brisket was horribly dry and all the ribs were dry and chewy. Food came out quickly but the drinks took ages.
Marko Bosnic
I've been here on multiple occasions and have always left more than satisfied! There's something about the burgers- they are just that little bit more satisfying that all the other burger places. The porterhouse char grilled steak is to die for! Need I say more?! The staff are friendly and I loved that the owner/ chef finds the time to come and have a chat and interact with us diners. Keep it up Cultural Commons

The best burger place in Melbourne! Their beef patty is incredible and their new smoked meats are absolutely amazing! You must try it!!!

We immediately were greeted by friendly staff and got seated. The Mr got the O.G Burger and i ordered the Soft shell crab burger and creme brulee. We were pretty impressed with this particular staff memeber who had good knowledge of the menu. Soft shell crab was bomb! The O.G Burger also got two thumbs from my partner. Everything came with chips and their aioli sauce was so yum i wanted to swim in it! The creme brulee comes with ice cream and a red sauce. When I asked the young lady with strawberry hair what it was, she didn't know either but came back a few seconds later and told me it was a berry sauce. Very happy she went out of her way to find out what it was for me. It was a pleasant visit. We will be coming back!

I normally would give 5 stars and have been a regular there, but on this occassion the burger was burnt and could taste it in the burger. As time was limitted I didn't ask for another one. Also they now charge $5 for chips when it used to be included in the price of the meal.

Serving staff were worked off their feet. Only 2 people attending to over ten seated tables - we waited 20mins for drinks and close to 40 for food. The kitchen staff had to clear tables as no one else was available to. We decided to try the BBQ offering as we were in a group of 4. It was mediocre. Brisket was dry, beef ribs were tough. Sausages were nice as were the Chilli Nachos. Will stick with their burgers from now on.

My steak was good. My friends burger the OG double patty was too messy to eat. Overall the food tastes great. My dessert was very nice. Chocolate pudding. The only real complaint I have is the lack of service. You dont bring out coffees with self serve sugar with no spoons to stir. And also bring dessert with no cutlery either. Are we supposed to eat it with our fingers? Little things like this although viewed as minor, need improvement asap! Its not cool having to call the waiter for cutlery.
Jayde Nelson
Went in there to get some burgers and got one menu and a small table for 4 people then got moved tables after the hassle then they refused to customise our burger because they were ' too busy ' but were more then happy for us to get add ons if we paid more so we left and they couldn't care one bit. Very very rude. Will never go back!

I'll start off by saying I've been to many burger joints all across melbourne, few are able to hold a candle to cultural commons, So much so that I've been back numerous times, if you're a burger enthusiast i highly recommend heading down. 11/10 remember to wear your loose pants

The smoked meat range is a must!!!! Excellent service backed up by excellent food, ribs and brisket

Absolutely fantastic! The brisket was amazing!! Great atmosphere and vibe, Friendly staff and Great food Definitely coming back here !

We have tried MANY burger joints and this place always delivers on price, taste and atmosphere. Some of the newbie waiters are a bit inattentive but everything else is great!! We always come back! 👌🏽

meat in burger was raw, very disappointing

We had Death by Meat for a family of 10 and the ribs and buffalo wings were super delicious. Great food, great ambience, great service. Thank you Alex, you have made my bro so happy that he paid for the bill

The MOST AMAZING fried chicken burger I have ever had! The fried chicken is juicy and perfectly cooked, I couldn't recommend it more. For the perfect burger I recommend the fried chicken burger with pineapple and the mac and cheese patty (another favourite - can add this to beef burgers too). I have come back here time and time again for the delicious burgers which are amazing value for money. Highly recommend!

4.0 Very Good

It’s been awhile since I last visited, last time being when it originally opened. Years later it has stood the test of time and evolved their menu to more Americanised offerings. It was relatively quiet when we arrived during lunch, I’m guessing that more people come in during dinner and also numbers are down due to people being afraid to go out because of the coranavirus.

I got their Maverick burger which has all your usual suspects but with bacon and a hickory and brown sugar BBQ sauce. Very solid burger and held well, was dripping with juices and had a bit of a smokey flavour. Chips were crisp with aioli on the side which had a nice garlic flavour to it.

I did play it pretty safe that day but their BBQ items which my friends got looked amazing. I think I’ll leave that for a dinner session where I can let loose and indulge a little more. It’s good to have this in your neighbourhood, I totally forgot this place existed. The tinted windows out the front doesn’t help as it gives the appearance of it being closed or empty.

The restaurant was empty for a Saturday lunch. Started off with onion rings with siracha mayo. The siracha mayo was mildly spiced. The tonkatsu burger was delicious. If only they put more curry sauce it would have been perfect.

First time here at Cultural Commons with my partner. Was a really great experience. We both ordered two burgers, the Dr. Pepper chicken wings, poutine and fries.

Burgers were decently sized and tasty - however I found the patty to not be fully cooked and a bit raw in the middle.

Chicken wings were nicely tasting but a bit dry.

The poutine and the fries were the highlight for me. The poutine gravy was nice and salty and well seasoned and the fries with the aioli was a decent size.

All in all, a great place to have a cheat meal or massive burger and fries.
TheHangryTurtle
Chilled backyard bbq vibes at this place which i have regularly visited since it opened. Great burgers made here where you can tell that care has been taken with the meat quality and overall construction, and cooked medium with a char that really brings out the Maillard Reaction on the pattie which tastes amazing. Lamb ribs and sausages are another of my favorites with some great flavours, along with the onion rings as a side to pick at. Open late, fair prices and always friendly service.
Maddie Lee
Nice burger place that is at the edge of all the Vietnamese shopping and restaurants. My O.G burger was very juicy and even slightly pink - cooked quite prefectly and not dry. I hope to come back again to try their other burgers and bbq.
The Roze Review
A bit overdue but let’s talk about cultural commons. Located in Springvale and close to public transport, cultural commons is a great place to go for a quick bite before heading home for the day. It is advertised as a American BBQ style restaurant but they also do burgers. My friends and I tried both the bbq meats and the burgers and it was the burgers that won the day. Very juicy, full of flavour and value for money. The bbq was not so great so it’s not worth mentioning. Overall a good experience for burger lovers.

Had this delivered and was really looking forward to trying it out. All the food came cold, half the order was missing and it took one hour to get here. It was most interesting to watch the delivery driver pass our street and travel a significant distance before coming back. We will not be ordering from this place again. Do not recommend.
Tessa
We came as a big group and they were able to accommodate us easily as we were the only customers in store. Took quite a while for our order to be taken as the waitress was busy doing odd jobs. Food took about twenty minutes. Nothing special to note. Everything was ok. We ordered onion rings, buffalo chicken, rack of ribs, three different burgers and drinks. I don’t think I’d return in a hurry but wouldn’t rule it out completely.

BELOW AVERAGE BBQ..

🥩 Beef Brisket 150g - $10
🐄 Full Rack of Beef Ribs - $43
🐷 Full Rack of Pork Ribs - $45
🐑 Dry Rub Lamb Ribs - $19
.
⚠️ SAVAGE REVIEW ALERT! ⚠️
.
Please know that I HATE giving savage reviews like this.. 😔 I want people to experience GREAT QUALITY FOOD and thats why i created this page! 🙏🏽 im not trying to rip down a business, im only trying to give constructive feedback for improvement! ❤ reviews like this only surface when i don't believe that justice has been done to the type of food being cooked! 😕 if you decide to make a certain dish, put some love and pride into it please 😖 ASK yourself if you'd be willing to pay for and eat, the quality of food you're providing.. please dont put up dishes just for the menus sake 🙏🏽
.
☑ 4.5/10..👎🏽 Honestly A MAJOR LETDOWN and A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT 😑 in a few words, "BADLY COOKED MEAT" 🚫 I'm actually being pretty generous with that 4.5! 🤔 the only reason it wasn't a 4 was because the Pork Ribs were decent.. not amazing or great, but decent, tasty and EDIBLE! 🙄 they still are not worth $49 for what you get IMO 🤨 WHY SO BAD?! 🤔 here goes.. firstly the BEEF RIBS were OVERCOOKED.. they were DRY and as chewy as a piece of overdone steak 😔 in order to digest it i had to chew on a bite for almost 2 minutes just to break it down ☹ next was the BEEF BRISKET.. 😕 two words "RIDICULOUSLY DRY" 🧦 it felt as if i were eating pieces of meat that had been REHEATED in the microwave multiple times.. the meat tasted dehydrated with no moisture or juice except for the thin layer of fat, and that couldnt even save it! 🧐 lastly, the DRY RUB LAMB RIBS.. 😊 the rub was great! Very tasty with a lot of great deep flavours and seasoning HOWEVER, the meat itself was CHEWY 🚧 the fat had to be chewed and ripped as chunks.. again just badly cooked meat.. 😢 I didn't finish the BEEF RIBS or BEEF BRISKET.. 🤦🏾‍ such a disappointment and absolute zero value for money 😔 I do NOT recommend their BBQ! 🚫
.

the burgers are amazing. I have tried other places thinking they could compare, but nope. Cultural commons in springvale are the best burgers in melbourne.
the place/seating looks abit run down but overall still a decent experience.
But if you are after the Burgers you wont be let down
Jo N
Very big restaurant with lots of space and friendly service. The burgers are average but not amazing. Got the soft shell crab burger and friend ordered the classic beef. Also got onion rings which were nice.

Triple threat = Trio of Ribs

You don’t expect to find good Ribs & Burgers In Springvale But Cultural Commons did not disappoint 😁👍

#lamb #beef #pork #ribs #trio #triple #threat #food #foodies #foodphotography #eating #foodblogger #meat #satisfaction #guaranteed

So keen to come visit a place close-by that offers American bbq. Apparently the menu has been changed for the low and slow bbq. Half racks aren’t available for the pork/beef ribs. Beef ribs (full rack) + sides are now $69 from $50! Woah.

To sum it up, average and pricey
Jimmy Nguyen
3.7/5

To find such a place in Springvale Central is rather uncommon. Which makes it stand out remarkably with it’s American menu.

The burger tasted good, great meat and well balanced. However, the bun was slightly cold when served.

The soft meat of the pork ribs was great. Overall a well cooked and tasty ribs.

Extremely friendly staff, great service.

The only complaint is the price. You can get so much more of a burger elsewhere and at that level of taste/ingredient for $17. Moreover, because of the “not so special” taste, it did not surprise me. Hence, average and pricey.

Would recommend (only in the area)! 👍

Ordered
-----------------------
Food:
1. Single Cheeseburger - Bun and patty were amazing. Cheese didn't stand out in comparison.
2. Smoked Brisket Burger - Bun, sauce, and brisket were amazing but could use more brisket in burger
3. Side of chips - Super crispy and tasty. Aioli sauce was star of the show

Burgers were on the pricier side but service and food were great. Would come back to try some other burgers and bbq items.
Hungry Hippo
One of the better burger joints around the area. The staff are very attentive and friendly. A very nice and chilled ambience, food is amazing and price is just right
William Nguyen
The main reason for the low rating here is that the burgers are fairly pricy considering you don't get any sides with them. I understand that there are many burger joints in Melbourne that charge higher prices with smaller servings. However, unlike cultural commons, they are not situated in Springvale and that makes a huge difference.
$15-$20 is more than the average meal cost in this area so customers should be compensated by either superior quality or quantity. The food is good, but not that good.
Bring back complementary sides with burgers and reviews will shoot up.

This is a spacious place to have a great tasting burger and chips.
My Girlfriend had the Hot Chick (quite appropriate in her case 😊) and I had the OG with a double patty. Both were tasty and enjoyable.
We also had the Poutine chips which had a nice tasting gravy.
We would definitely recommend this place.
Mish 🍔❤️
Mish 🍔❤️
The staff were very friendly, attentive and welcoming here. The burgers were also very nice, I had the hot chick and we shared the poutine chips. Our meals were very good and hit the spot. We would definitely return here for another meal and the friendly staff.

Came here last night With about 10 mates for a catch up, everyone said the burgers were really good, I chose to have a few other things from the menu instead, buffalo wings were pretty damn good, could of been a bit hotter temperature wise, the chilli coleslaw was nice only couldn't taste the chilli, fried brussels sprouts tasted great untill I got the after taste which was overdone/burnt. The 450g brisket however was a big let down, huge amount of fat through it, I'm talking more fat than meat itself, no flavour what so ever not hot temperature wise, I ate half and felt sick. My mate had it too and said the same thing. Enough to make me not come back. In saying that everyone else said the burgers / chips were great. Hence the 3 Stars and not 2
Jo
Have loved cultural commons every single time I’ve been! Lovely staff and great ambience, does not disappoint! The meat platters are awesome if you’re sharing with a couple of people, highly recommend!

Fantastic experience. We had a large group (20) for lunch. Had pre ordered on a spreadsheet and the food came out hot and with the correct order for everyone. I had the single Maverick and it was delicious. Specially love the crispy bacon.
Anq812
A very good experience coming here. Staff are welcoming, brought some crayons and paper out for my kids to draw on and keep them occupied. Burgers were good, a little on the smaller side, and slightly undercooked. Flavours however were good, soft shell crab was tasty, but small. Buffalo wings were also undercooked but the ones I had were tasty. My main complaint was nothing came out piping hot, it was all lukewarm like it had been sitting there for a while. Didn't skimp on condiments like other places, they brought out sauce for the chips and other dipping sauces. Not overly cheap, just under a hundred for a couple of beers, 2 burgers, nuggets for the kids and some buffalo wings. I'd give them 3.5
Willtravelforfood17
We ordered a beef burger, a poutine with beef brisket and beef brisket with chips and salad. The beef burger was juicy, cheesy, the milk buns were sweet and toasted and it was a all round delicious burger. The chips were also well seasoned and crispy. The beef brisket unfortunately was a huge letdown as it was dry and rubbery and overcooked. The smoked sausage was delicious but really expensive at $8 a pop for a tiny sausage. The place was dark and cold and felt like a canteen. It took awhile to get someone’s attention and we asked twice for water which never came so we helped ourselves to it. The waiter also got one of our orders wrong. Come for the burgers and chips but I would not order the brisket again.

Always enjoy my burgers and although there were no problems here, there was no special flavour that made Cultural Commons stand out. Their selection does provide options and I appreciate that

Tried CC for the first time for the burgers and went with the Tradie. The burger was really solid and the manager friendly, she was happy to have a chat and fill us in on the professional eating scene.

Service saw the drinks and burgers served quickly. They also have a burger challenge well worth a crack.
DamoForce Food
It isn't what it used to be. Service very slow. The food ended up coming out before the drinks. The beef burger was cooked raw. They did replace it. It's a shame. Brisket was nice though
Rhiannon
Less than sub par burgers. Overcooked bacon, egg yolk everywhere, onions rings freezing cold & chips completely forgotten. Would not recommend if you enjoy burgers.

Maybe they were a little understaffed last Friday night, but food and drinks took a little long to come out.

My single maverick was ok, not spectacular, but ok. I liked that it wasn't all sloppy and dripping with sauce, but the patty could've definitely used some seasoning. The bacon was nice and crunchy, but again, could've been a little saltier.

I was a bit disappointed that they hadn't remembered to put my mac and cheese croquette on the side like I ordered. The croquette itself was a bit over- cooked and underseasoned again, but good with their garlic aioli.

The pork ribs were ridiculously tiny for $32... it looked so sad on the platter with the 'pickles'. I mean why not bring it all out with the coleslaw and chips we ordered? My boyfriend was a little peeved that the chips were lukewarm when they came out as well, but I liked them. The ribs themselves were a tad dry as well, though the sauce was ok.

Local Burger restaurant of mine! They do everything from American style smoked meats to burgers to shakes to all kinds of sides!

Not a bad place, but the standards has dropped a bit from its former glory. Price-wise, it's not bad as the serving sizes are fairly large, but still a tad high compared to other places in Springvale! The one thing that hasn't dropped too much is the quality of the food, as the ingredients are always fresh! Then again, it also depends on who cooks, sometimes it's a hit or miss. The service does get pretty messy when it's busy, but that applies to all places, so it shouldn't affect your dining experience too much.

If you've ever been to Cultural Commons, you'll know how amazing the ambiance is, apart from those minor things mentioned above CC is still highly ranked because I like it!
Chen Hua Liew
The burgers and fries were amazing. I ordered American dream with an extra chicken patty. It was awesome but was too much for me. The service was good too. Would definitely come back to try the other burgers

A hidden gem in Springvale for those burger and BBQ lovers out there.

Cultural Commons is a 3-minute walk from Springvale station in an awkward corner, which may explain why it is never bustling with people. This was my partner’s 4th visit and despite the large welcoming space and friendly service, she has never seen this place full like other restaurants in the area. Despite this, the burgers here are high quality and their menu boasts a wide selection of sides, desserts and bevs.

We ordered:
- Fish burger
- Mack Junior burger
- Side of chips

Food: The Mack Junior burger was quite basic with a single patty, lettuce, onion, cheese and Mack sauce (whatever that is), a very solid option. The Fish burger is my partner’s favourite as it is quite rare to find at other burger joints, and the barramundi was deep-fried perfectly. Accompanied by tartare sauce, lettuce and onion, it was a very simple yet satisfying feed. We could both agree that the chips were FANTASTIC – tasty, seasoned perfectly and crispy as. The aioli was a bit runny but the chips would well be eaten on it own.

Service: Our server was friendly and the food came out in a timely manner. There is a surcharge for all card payments (1% of bill), however, we were not charged this time.

Ambience: As mentioned, the space is quite large and welcoming, which means the only thing missing was more people!

Overall, we would recommend this place to those wanting a good feed in the South-East area. It deserves more exposure than what it’s getting and we will be back soon to try some other items.
Mavy
Came in here with a mate for some ribs. I come fairly regularly because I really like their burgers and free aioli. The ribs were also very good. Lamb more so than beef. Would have been 4.5/5 if there was a touch more ribby goodness on the plate. Cheers
Obsessedwithfood
Had the mushroom burger, it was to die for. Burgers are so delicious here. The service sucks but if you want good food and don’t care about the service, I would highly recommend this joint for a good feed!

As much as I love watching Youtube videos of people dining at new places or regions, I secretly do crave for these foods thereafter. So much for trying to behave on my diet. After a long shift, I was tossing between having brunch and munching into a hearty sized burger. Needless to say, brunch these days can work out to be a tad costly and does put me off knowing about the added public holiday surcharges. So burgers it is.
Stelyios
This is a very cool burger place located in the hustle and bustle of Springvale.

The burgers and sides are well priced and quality is high.

Most burger shops tend to forget the key to a good burger starts with the quality and seasoning of the patty. At Cultural Commons they have hit the spot with their seasoning and quality of their patty. The menu is also quite extensive providing you with a wide array of choices.

Highly recommended for both locals and the travelling foodie!
@lukebMelb
Last night Was The 5th time I've visited cultural commons. Every time its been delicious. I feel like the burgers get better every time. The O.G burger is amazing! . The only negative thing about this place is it always looks like it's closed, because Of The dark windows, it looks like the lights are off. I reckon if they changed this they would get more people coming in off the street. I look forward to coming back again and again.

I tried the tacos for the first time last night, I wasn't overly impressed. The tacos tasted abit rubbery. They tasted like the gluten free tacos from Safeway. Probably would've been better if they put the tortilla on the grill for 10 seconds so it puffs up a little and gives it a nice grill mark. I think I will stick to the burgers from now on anyways. Cocktails are very good too!

Came her for a week end lunch as recommended by a friend. Springvale is super busy especially on a week end so parking was a bit of a pain especially when you’re 9 months pregnant! It’s a spacious well decked out set up. We shared a burger, kimchi Mac n cheese (divine) and a chips dish with gravy and cheese. All delish! Bit of a bummer the mixed meat & sides platter is only available after 5pm, so we will have to come back and try this. Solid 8/10 for us #foodies
Renae Harrison
Came here on a Friday for lunch. Was expecting to order the bbq'd meats but I didn't realise they were only served from 5pm onwards which was a shame. I ordered the pulled pork burger instead which was yum. I originally wanted the fried brussel sprouts but they were unavailable which was also a shame. I settled for some chips and they were good however the sriracha sauce/dip was too hot to enjoy. I understand it's a spicy food but if other restaurants can get the balance right I think cultural commons can do. I'd definitely come back to try the meats and brussel sprouts when they're in stock. Pricing was also pretty reasonable.

Well where do I Start.......

This place is amazing didn't expect such a suprise. It's got such a cool vibe also, very social place.

Now for the food. Omg was it good, I haven't stoped talking about it. So fresh and such good quality. I'm a massive burger fan and this place was one of the greats. Although I don't think they are famous for there burgers more there ribs but boy was I impressed. The ribs where out of this world, I had the beef short ribs they where fresh, juicy, lean and was a shock for how cheap they where.

If your looking for something in the south east with great food and cool vibe this understated eatery is a must!!
Kylie
It is hard to find a good burger place in Springvale, so this is like a hidden gem, tucked into the corner but a short walk from the station. The burgers are delicious and the restaurant os Instagram worthy. There is also no fault in customer service. My favourite would be the soft shell crab burger, but the OG and the American Dream are great too. You honestly can't go wrong with which burger you pick. Milkshakes are great, and so are fries, so I will definitely return again to try as much of this menu as I can. Highly recommend.
Stephanie Czapski
Best burgers around!!
Owner is extremely friendly every time we have visited.
Reasonable on price and not excessive like a few other burger joints in the area.
The corn is hands down the best menu item 😍

Millie
Definitely recommend the onion rings, they’re to die for and their burgers are delicious. On Friday and Saturday nights, the atmosphere is great.
Karen Giang
Ordered the OG burger without bacon. When it hit the table, the burger looked divine but sadly the beef patty though still a bit more on the rare of medium rare side, tasted bland and dry. The faces of the patty had an obvious char and unfortunately that was the only taste that carried through.

Friends ordered equally delicious looking burgers (fish burger, chicken burger, pulled pork) all of which seemed to have packed better flavour and were more enjoyable.

Also ordered kimchi mac and cheese and poutine chips. While the mac and cheese wasn't distinctly kimchi, it was well received by the table. The chips were a little bit of a disappointment though (for future consumers, there is gravy, it's just all at the bottom of the pan!

Service was lovely and cute interior. Great vibes. Willing to return, but will probably order a non beef burg.
KN J
We went here for a family meal with 6 adults and 2 kids.

Ordered a range of burgers, chips and drinks.

We waited ages. Some meals came out early and others were left waiting for theirs well after some of those early meals were eaten. We enquired several times to be told it wouldn't be long. Eventually after numerous attempts at questioning where meals were or where the chips were, we decided to leave. Upon leaving the waitress told us there was a mix up and that food was being made now. We declined, got the cost removed and left. Not been back since. The place at the time wasn't even half full.

Food wise the burgers and chips were actually really nice.

If they improved services and prices this place could be nice to go to. Given so many options in Springvale that are cheap, quick and tasty, they need to up their game to compete.
Food Queen
The burgers were absolutely delicious.
I ordered the American dream and it was flavourful, the meat was cooked perfectly and the sauce was heavenly.
The only downfall was that we came with a large group of 15 people and the food took almost an hour to come out due to a low amount of staff. Definitely ruined the dining experience for us.
Om Nom Nom
I have so much love for this place. It's really close to the train station so it's a quick and easy I-ate-too-much waddle home, the food is delicious and the burgers are quite generous in size, especially for their reasonable prices.

The only cons I can think of is that sometimes service is a bit slow (it doesn't take 10 minutes to make two lemon lime bitters, especially when the restaurant is only half full) and the portion sizes for the sides/appetisers are a little on the small side, but regardless, if you've got a main coming, you're walking away from this place absolutely stuffed.

Not $80 for 2! We paid $50 for 3!

There is only one vegetarian burger- with mushroom and halloumi (the shroominator) which was one of the better vegetarian burgers I’ve had (considering most aren’t very good and many are just awful). It definitely needed more halloumi to add flavour and a fuller, chewy (meatier) texture and to balance out the mushroom. This burger would be good for someone who loves mushrooms.

The meat burgers were amazing according to the others.

All burgers tasted healthier and lighter than other burgers due to less oil and crunchy lettuce. After the burger you actually felt full but not heavy (usually after burgers you feel heavy but not full)

The onion rings and chips are really good.

The atmosphere and service are perfect, the venue is very spaced out so you can hear each other, there is lots of room and it doesn’t feel crowded at all, which is really unlike usual burger places. The tables are so spread out, you can’t hear conversations going on next to you

If they had more vegetarian options and vegan options I would rate them better

Came here with my partner last week and really enjoyed it :)Even though we arrived close to closing time, we were welcomed with amazing service. We shared the Trio of Ribs and the Mack Junior - it did not disappoint!! Even though I had been here 2-3 times in the past and it was my partner's first time here, we both thoroughly enjoyed it and would come again.

Vegan Food Seeker
I ordered the American Nightmare. Great portion size and delicious.
Love the onion rings and chips. Amazing burgers. Needs more options for vegetarians. .

Had the softshell crab as a student deal. The burger itself was amazingly soft, but the taste of it was alright. I'm personally not a fan of seafood in my burgers, so YMMV. The chips itself were great, and I feel that the aioli sauce has changed since the last time I've ate there.

Came here on a Saturday night and it was so packed. The layout of the place means it’s also pretty noisy, and I personally wasn’t a fan of that.

My friend and I ordered the American Dream/Nightmare and the burgers were delicious! Tender and moist patties with a really flavoursome and crunchy bun. The chips that we ordered, however, weren’t great. I think they were fried with the onion rings because they retained that flavour and were so, so ridiculously salty. Saltier than me on a bad day and that’s saying something!

Not sure I’d go out of my way to come back, maybe just for burgers next time.

Cultural Commons has cemented itself as the go to local burger place. Over the last 2+ years the burgers are just as good as day 1. While some of the sides and smaller dishes can sometimes hit or miss it's always a satisfying meal. Now the slow cooked bbq meats have transformed the place into food heaven. Do yourself and your stomach a favour and pay them a vist.

P.S. The current "Meat Mayhem" Burger on the specials is a solid 9 out of 10!

Another place i love when it comes to burgers, the chips were very crunchy and delicious. But the burger was something different, the meat was tender and juicy, complimented by the tomato. I got the tradies burger so i really loved it. There was a great atmosphere around me and my friend as i was sitting outside; and yes i recommend this to everyone who loves burgers.

Have been here a couple of times now and the burgers are still very good. It’s a very casual setting and the burgers are very well priced so you won’t go wrong.
Mistermister
Great venue. Easy parking around. Place was very quiet for lunch. It didn't seem like they use the front kitchen as it looked more like a display smoker. I suspect it is more of a dinner venue. Great selection of burgers. Almost too many to choose from. No gluten free burger options but can choose from the meat section and salad/ sides section. Onion rings and fries were also quite tasty. We asked for some changes to some burgers and they forgot the BBQ sauces in the burgers.
Alicia
I love this place. I’ve been a few times and every time I love what I have ordered. The things I enjoy the most are definitely the burgers. I love the art on the walls and the general environment.
The Dear Luncher
The Dear Luncher has seen and heard some seriously good things about Cultural Commons. Recently there was an opportunity to stop by this neighbourhood and it was a no-brainer decision – on more than one level. First of all, The Dear Luncher’s brain was not working very well due to a massive bender weekend. But also, the hangover-curing reputation of Cultural Commons was particularly immense. The Dear Luncher does not spend much time in Springvale, but this might change now. The interiors are fairly expansive, with table, bar and booth seating arrangements. Being early in the day The Dear Luncher was offered booth seating – seriously comfortable.

Cultural Commons offer up an impressive assortment of burgers, but also slow cooked meats. On this virgin visit however, a burger and a shake would be requested as these two combined often help with the recovery process. It is nice to see a burger menu offer up so much variety. Not only with ingredients, but built in double or triple options for the same burger type. Nice flexibility. The Dear Luncher opted for a DOUBLE version of the “Mighty D.B.C”. Double beef patty, double bacon, double cheese, pickles, onion, ketchup and mayo on a milk bun. On arrival it did not look all that mighty in size, but it certainly delivered some mightiness with flavour combinations. Just a really well constructed burger, cheese perfectly melted and the combination of pickle and onion gave it a real souped-up cheeseburger feel to it.

But the highlight of this particular meat/bread apparatus was the bacon and how well it was prepared. Crispy, snappy and not overly charred – just ideal really. Lastly, The Dear Luncher does not go for milkshakes all too often as beer is the usually preferred burger accompaniment. But on this occasion, the choc-mint milkshake was selected and it was incredible.

In closing, there is nothing common about Cultural Commons. Their website says they have the best burgers in Springvale. It would not be a stretch to suggest that they pump out the best burgers in the outer South East.

Used to be my favorite burger place. But over time it seems the standards have dropped. Burger patty was too salty and the milkshake tasted like plain milk, but they redid the milkshake for us and fixed it. Still heart broken.
Hangry Jules
Maverick and Mighty double BACON and CHEESE were juicy and delicious

@boyz if youre taking a girl out, make sure she doesnt mind a messy meal and probably best to just get double and not triiiple😇

Cons: they don't serve chips together with burger anymore 😞

Pros: Best of the bests onion rings😝 11/10

LIT!: I tried the Tradies burger and The hot chick with extra hash brown for an extra $2. Additionally, we had a kimchi Mac and cheese. The tradies burger won it for me and the stack was HUGE! The brioche was warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and so so buttery. Everything was made fresh including the beef patty which was cooked medium rare 👌

NOT SO LIT: the kimchi Mac and cheese was quite average but still enjoyable.

NOTE: if you can eat all of the burger challenge then you can put your photo on their hall of fame.

Thanks for having us!

Came here with a few friends, their burgers, chips and the sauce dip for the chips was good, ordered their housemade ice tea it wasn't that great it was a bit bland had better ones at other places, but overall their food was good, decent price not too expensive either
Justin
Delicious burgers, we went with the hot chick and the tradies burger. I must say I think the tradie burger won, however I loved the hot chick as well. We got extra hash browns for $2 which was well worth it, given they give you 2. Mac and cheese wasn't as saucy as we were hoping for but still tasty.

Went there on a Saturday night. It was pretty full and they had 4 waiters on the floor who were constantly running around. Ask for something and the answer is always rushed and impatient. We asked for a spoon for my little one as the fork was really big for her tiny self: We were told that because they are busy, we cannot bring you a spoon at the moment. So we had to wait patiently till they got us a spoon so that my toddler could finally use it. We placed an order for 2 adults which was basically burgers and 2 sides at 8.15 and we got the food around 9pm with one side missing. Finally after a couple of reminders, just when we finished, the girl came and dropped the side we had ordered to have with our burger. Realised no point in saying anything . So we did not. Again, it's not the wait staffs fault. They were genuinely under the pump. The management should have hired at least one extra person for busy nights. Now in terms of food. We have had better. But in saying that food is not bad. It's average. Will we come back? Probably not. The cocktails we had were nice. Overall an underwhelming experience.

Burgers are very tasty. If I'm craving one, it always hits the spot. They are massive though and are a bit difficult to eat elegantly so I cut them in half or even quarters like the precious child that I am.

I used to get the spaghetti marinara a lot which was SO GOOD. The right amount of seafood, olive oil and chilli and al dente pasta always. The last couple of times it did not taste right and I suspected a different chef in the kitchen. I stopped ordering it as it wasn't up to scratch.

Overall I enjoy this restaurant especially for the burgers and onion rings. Crispy af

> The Big Triple Patty Mac Daddy and Southern Fried Chicken Burger <
Sometimes us piggies need to let loose and pig out! That is why we resorted to one of the best burger places Melbourne! A great feed, but only if you're hungry 😉 Your Breakfast Piggies xx 🐷

After coming across Cultural Commons on zomato, hubby and I decided to give it ago since we love our burgers. The restaurant was nice, was busy went we arrived. It's a decent size place with an open kitchen.

I ordered the American Dream and my husband ordered the American Nightmare. Overall we were happy with our burgers. I thought it was tasty with a good portion of incrediants. The lettuce and tomato were fresh. They're juicy burgers but be warned, they are quite greasy. Prepare to make a mess. The juice and sauce were dripping everywhere.

We also ordered the first chicken wings which were so good. Super crunchy and juicy. The chips were delicious also.

We would return.

Awesome service and yummy food.
Nice vibe to the place as well. Food presentation was impressive and all was reasonably priced. Nice hidden burger joint in Springvale.

My partner and I went here last Saturday for lunch - this place had been on my list to try for a while and it just seemed like a Burger day!

I ordered the AmericanDream and my partner ordered the Mighty DBC Double.

The burgers were nice but the standout was the atmosphere and the decor. It's a super modern set up with booths and cool art work and lighting.

The biggest letdown however was the service. The staff had an air about them that they'd been there forever and were super casual, however there was really no customer service whatsoever. Our juicy burgers came out, with no option and no napkins anywhere in sight! You'd think if you're servicing up juicy, messy burgers - you'd have a stash of napkins readily available. We asked and received and watched 4 other tables also ask for napkins. This is your vote business people!

The water and glasses were sitting behind a register and rather than ask for service again, we helped ourselves. It's the small things that make a difference on whether these places succeed and unfortunately due to the borderline service - there are better burger bars around that offer the holistic experience I seek!

I am the Sherminator, a sophisticated Sex Robot sent through time to change the future for one lucky lady..... Sorry The Shroominator not sherminator, Shroominator.
Normally the vegetarian burger option at this Springvale eatery, i added one of their beef patties into it.
Perfectly grilled Haloumi, atop 2 portabelo mushrooms, tomato, onion and lettuce in-between the standard brioche bun.
Adding the beef pattie added extra cheese, did it need it? No. Was it a welcome addition? Yes, yes it was.
All the burgers here are great.

Licensed venue, so beers, ciders and wines available. Limited choices but slowly growing.

Had an amazing time kind and lovely staff very welcoming. Fantastic burgers and milkshakes great atmosphere definitely coming back soon🤗🤗🤗

Would not recommend. Extremely poor service, with staff that refuse to cater to customers with dietary issues. Long waiting times just to be served.

Finally a decent burger joint! Chips on points perfectly salty and crispy. Great menu with heaps of flavours in burgers. The bun was good, the patty well cooked and a good sauce with a hit of chilli...
CoolBeans
It has a good vibe to it as you enter. I also thought that cats and dogs were allowed as I saw a water bowl for pets.

It's got ample seating inside and a few outside as well. The staff are friendly and helpful. We ordered for takeaway and we weren't kept waiting for long.

We ordered two burgers - the soft shell crab and the hot chick with a Nutella milkshake.
Both burgers were delicious and value for money. However, I thought a bit more cheese would've been nice:)
The Nutella milkshake was good.. it was full to the brim with crushed biscuits and cream and other toppings but I thought it lacked the overall Nutella taste - as in it tasted more milky rather than the distinct Nutella taste!

Overall it was a good experience and we would return!

After reading positive reviews was keen to try this place.
Wow what a let down, Arrived at 12:30 at lunchtime and my mate and I were the only people in the rather large shop (worrying). Friend ordered the American dream and I ordered the charred corn and the Mack Senior. Corn was lovely and I watched my friend eat his burger then waited a little more .... 20 minutes later I asked where my burger was then I was informed that there was an error in the system and the burger didn't get put through. I understand that mistakes can happen so I then asked for it to go as we were in a hurry. Some free small fries were put in the bag to soften the blow for waiting over 40 minutes for a burger. As I opened the bag I thought to myself " this needs to be of 8-bit quality or better to avoid a low rating". Upon opening the bag I was greeted to an oil sloppy mess, as I bit into the burger two nice red raw patties staring back at me !!! This is a joke, both me and my friend felt queasy all afternoon, and that 2% card charge just twists the knife a little more !!!

In a league of its own, absolutely amazing food and a bit left field from the traditional burger. Second time we've come and leaving very happy ! Hospitality is wonderful, had our burgers brought to us by the owner/chef, top guy! 11/10 by far the best.

Servings were large the chilli nachos were nice and spicy and the burgers were huge. The chips are amazing definitely recommend we shares a serving and couldn't finish it

Tried this place out finally and it was worth the wait burger was amazing and chips were perfect especially loved the mack sauce to dip them in.. only bad thing is trying to get a park close by as it's a very busy area but would definitely go back again
Tania
Food was quite nice, really liked the kim chi mac and cheese aswell. Onion rings were a bit soft and not crispy. Would recommend the OG, Hot chick or the pork belly burger :)

Great place - good burgers and amazing barbecue. The burned brisket ends are TO DIE FOR. I dig the locally sourced hot sauce which really is *crazy* hot
Truck Life
I got completely jiggy with this place. And already looking forward to going back!

I had the junior macwhich was so damn tasty and big enough, considering we ordered onion rings, and Kim chi fries on the side. The meat was juicy and had the right amount of cheese /sauce ratio and paired with a butter milk bun. The combination of flavours just work and make you wanting more.

I really like how EVERYTHING is made inhouse and with passion! And most importantly, doesn't cost you an arm and leg for quality.

For first timers, Id recommend their mac burgers, onion rings, Nutella milkshake, ribs, brisket, and the Nutella waffles. Omg these waffles
were absolutely amazing, the waffles are light, yet crispy and served with ice cream and nutty goodness. Save room for this gem!!

AMAZEBALLS!!!
Need I say more. Better than the Grand Trailer Park in the city.
Prices are really good too!

Best burgers in town!
So good I came back after lunch for dinner!
🐺😱👅🍔😄😁😲😴💤💤💤
Bun's Food Diaries
Came here for Saturday lunch after a long time of driving pass without really noticing the joint. It's really a different sort of westernised eatery compared to the Chinese/Vietnamese domination in the Springvale area. As a local this gives more variety of food choice. The place was surprisingly quiet, there were about 12 people including me and my partner during the whole time we were there. Clean place, nice decor, music matches the vibes of the place. I had the soft shell crab burger...this was nice with the mildly spicy sauce, would have wanted it without the spring onion though (personally dont like spring onions). My onion rings with aioli sauce was nice...just sauce was a bit runny. My partner found his burger (Merverick) to be good also.

Best burgers this side of the city. Huge, full of flavour and quality ingredients.

Be sure to let them know if you don't like burgers done medium-rare (heathens!) as they tend to be very much on the juicy side with a lovely pink colour. Meat is top quality; I've been eating here about once a month since they opened and never an issue.

There are other options apart from the burgers but really the beef is where it's at!

Nice clean restaurant and friendly staff. Had the Hot Chick burger, was tasty but the chicken was extremely oily. The chips were tasty and the drinks and cocktails are reasonably priced.

I went to Cultural Commons on the recommendation of friends. They said "you gotta try it!" so I did. I had just driven into Melbourne from Sydney and I was so hungry I could eat the arse out of a low flying duck. I asked "where is it?". The answer was "the old strip club near the station". I had no idea where that was so I had to look it up 😳.

I arrived and walked in, yeah I could see the skeleton of its former tenant. I looked at the menu and struggled to decide. I settled on the Mighty DCB which came with crispy fried. I also ordered a serve of onion rings (not pictured). Rookie error as the burger was enormous and so so fresh cheesy bacony and generally great.

The place was well set up with booths down one wall and tables liberally dispersed throughout the open space. Being licensed you could enjoy a alcoholic drink or go for a large range of soft drinks. I will definitely be going back. Being close to the station I can see a short stop over on the way home from the footy.

I hope you visit, and it's as good for you as it was for me.
Jen
Burgers are big and tasty! My personal favourite is the soft shell crab burger as the sauce that comes with it in that burger is divine. Chips are quite Schnitz-like (a compliment) and servings are generous.

Love the interior design of this place and the staff are super friendly. The waiting time is a little bit on the longer side however.
Onlymidrare
Good not great. Heard a lot about this local and was a little let down. The burger looked great but were lacking a little flavour and felt a bit to grease.
Gizelle
The place looks great. The staff were incredibly friendly. food: i got the burger. Tasted horrible. Ive had better, sorry. The chips came with Aoili which was nice. But my burger was undercooked, it felt like i figuratively just bit into a live cow and couldve said Moo right then and ther.
JJ
Wow the food looked great when we took photos but were terrible to eat. Fried chicken was horrible and had no flavour and not cooked well. Burger was juicy but way undercooked. Fries was the best thing. Wouldn't go back.
Jemma Ross
the food was alright however the service was poor
after giving the waiter our order and waiting for nearly an hour and a half, we had discovered that our order never went through. so waiting for another half hour our food was finally served.
after looking at the receipt, the cashier had forgotten to charge us for our drinks
Dale Zeinheiger Culpin
Good juicy burgers. I tried their Junior Mack and it has the same kind of taste as a Big Mac but it's 1000x better with much better ingredients.
MerlinEats
Came here for lunch and ordered a burger. After waiting 30 minutes, I asked the waiter for an update on my food. The waiter had a confused look on her face and went to check on the food. Apparently there was a mistake with the system and it was going to be another 10-15 minute wait. Considering there was only another group in the restaurant, this was disappointing. Overall, I waited 40 minutes for a burger. On a positive note, they were apologetic and gave free drinks. Would come back for the food.

I have been to this place multiple times, great venue, food and service. Definitely one of the better burger places in Melbourne and for it to be in Springvale is so unique.

The smoked meat range that has started up is really good and the sides are too match, brisket was very moist and the beef ribs had a great rub on them.

Do not hesitate to give this place a go a, be aware meats are only available on the weekend I think so ring ahead but burgers are always going so treat the taste buds.

Thanks legends
Fat Girl
I was at the Springvale markets and decided to check it out. Great burger and friendly staff. Would recommend.
Defiantly check it out. Worth the drive.
