Review Haysung Korean Bbq - Springvale

Lanith Pieris
Never miss this when we drive to Melbourne from Adelaide. Use to go here when Back since 2011 still very good quality and amazing staff. Don’t forget to add extra octopus. Mouth watering. I am a fan of Korean BBQ and have tried many places. This joint doesn’t top any other.

As far as DIY bbq buffets go, Korean BBQ is up there with plentiful. Gourmet BBQ has a huge selection of meats and even octopus that you can cook to tender perfection in front of you. Marinade flavours are tasty and all the usual Korean suspects are there. The bibimbap bowl is delicious and definitely not your average rice on the side. Tofu and seafood soup is light and the tofu melts in your mouth. A small serve of dumplings also went down very well. The grill plate is quite unique, in that it does not smoke a heap. So unlike other KoBBQ places where you have to yell over the sound of your table's exhaust fan, you actually get to chat whilst you're grilling. Staff are super friendly and kept trying to get me onto round two of meats. Believe me the first lot of meat that is brought out is/was plenty. You even get a scoop of ice cream to sweeten your pallette after the meal - if you still have room.

A friend and I visited early last week and ordered the buffet. It is really good value for money with high quality ingredients served. Our server, Yuna, was really friendly, hospitable and helpful when it came to making recommendations and cooking the food on the hot plate. She deserves a raise! Thanks Yuna and team!

This place is the worst experience for Korean BBQ in my whole life… We ordered buffet which costs about $42 per person but they served tons of food at the beginning and you have to finish them first, you cannot choose whatever you wanna order from the buffet menu. (Staff don’t even explain before we order.) However they don’t even serve the food on menu properly, we had to ask them to bring some seafood. The quality of food was horrible…no joking…the color of beef was just dark brown. Even though Kimchi was nothing taste but only sour and spicy. And to top it all off they only turned the fans on after we finished eating…! I cannot believe why this place received good rates…maybe from the people who never had Korean BBQ before? The staff are unfriendly and zero hospitality, they are not even Koreans. If you don’t like the job, just quit and find another job makes you happy! Never ever come back.

Service average, food average. They give you a lot in the buffet however l, 1 serving would be enough for two people. So much food left over that they don’t let you take it home. All the food this place must waste is soooo disgusting.
Morgan
BBQ beef, beer, and butane! We opted for their beef buffet option that feeds two people and almost as soon as we ordered, food started arriving at the table. Friendly staff, however, we felt the food was unnecessarily rushed and some of the meat was very chewy.
Grexion
The staff are so enthusiastic and kind! They were so patient with me despite the confusion I gave them with reservations. And the meat is all so savoury!

I love korean food and So far this is worse one we have been I won't go there and won't recommend to anyone. Korean bbq is all you can eat. However they told us all food is limited, no vegi just 2 piece of carrot, 1 small pieces of Salad. Moreover my 4 year old son eat nothing, but they ask us to pay $30 extra. We didn't get agreed. Later my wife ask for soup as per their menu, the replied you pay extra $30 for your son or no soup. That shoking for $5 soup they are asking $30. Well some restaurants doesn't know the value of customers. PLEASE everyone void this place. Korean bbq in glen waverly or in swanton Street are best. But please avoid this place. 0 star..

Great food, Hayden is a great host. Never had a bad meal here. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

Really good place to eat. The food is awesome, the staff very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to go back there! In my opinion, the best Korean bbq restaurant in Melbourne.

I've been going here for weeks and let me say, I have not been disappointed once. One of the best places to eat in Springvale. I only gave 5 stars because I couldn't put more. Definitely recommend.

My first time having Korean BBQ and I loved it. The ladies were so friendly, helpful & easy-going, and were amazing with my toddler, which ultimately made the whole experience so good. We had a marinated meat platter that was incredible. Very well priced. Will be going back again and have been raving on about it to everybody. Thanks so much ladies!

Perfect as always, this place never disappoints, great service, tasty food and friendly staff

Had a wonderful evening at Haysung Korean BBQ. Quality food and quality service. I have a feeling you (A&S) might eventually need to expand your current space and hire more floor (and kitchen) staff - just a feeling I have :) Keep up with the incredible work - I'll definitely come back again :)

Great food great experience our new fav Korean bbq place

Great pricing and service. Very comfortable and great location!

Good value takeaway. My beef bento box was filling and delicious. Good variety of foods included and they gave extra free kimchi!
Cookielessvee
We ordered takeaway via uber eats . Very impressive the food was so crispy and tasty.

Beef bulgogi bimbibap - the bulgogi is sweet and well made.

Cheese topokki - thick rice cakes which were very impressive and a thick layer of cheese. Fish cakes complimented

Deep-fried pork dumplings_ a crisp edge and the skin keeps the filling in.

Seafood pancake - got to love a good crunch. Generous amount soft seafood and the pancake is so crispy and flavourful.

The family BBQ combo meal is to die for. Service and staff are really nice, well-mannered. The kimchi soup and seafood pancake was very yummy too! 😍
Uy
Friendly staff, quite accommodating. I would recommend their beef and mushroom hot pot.

A Korean BBQ a couple of minutes from where I live? Count me in! Haysung in located in the heart of Springvale and offers cheap korean bbq and korean dishes. Every time I walk past, there’s always a crowd of people in the restaurant. We came here on weekend and we were seated and didn’t have to line up. I didn’t realise that there was also another room at the back! It’s connected to Springvale Central Shopping Centre.

They serve standard korean dishes like bibmbab, sweet potato noodles, kimchi soup and korean bbq. We ordered the Premium platter because it had everything we wanted to order. There’s also an option where you buy individual meat.

The premium platter consisted of Angus Scotch fillet, Wagyu Beef Short Ribs, Wagyu Beef Brisket and Pork Belly. It also came with soup of your choice, I chose Kimchi pork soup. It also came with korean pan fried dumplings. The quality of the meat is slightly below average. I think I would only come back form the Wagyu Beef Short Ribs but everything else was really dry. The portions for the price was pretty inexpensive. The dumplings was pretty meh and so was the soup.

Overall, I didn’t really enjoy most of the meat, they were just too dry and needed a bit more fat. I usually cook my meat Medium rare to rare but it was still dry. Quality of meat was not up to scratch so I don’t think I would reccomend the korean bbq here.

Good service, kimchi soup had a bit too much kimchi, but nonetheless would love to come back soon! The only downside is that you have to pay 1.5% surcharge if using card
Conan Phung
I usually get their Pork Kimchi Stew here and while not the best, it only costs $12 if you get rice to go with it. They also provide extra kimchi and a beansprout sidedish, so in terms of value, it's quite good.
Kylie
Great little new kbbq place in Springvale, decent prices, good service, nice ambience and great food - it's always hard to go wrong with kbbq. We got the premium combo, which would be enough for two people, plus an extra seafood pancake. The pancake was perfect, soft but still extra cripsy around the edges and filled with calamari, would highly recommend. The meat was great, as expected, although we had to flip and cook some of it ourselves when the wait staff got too busy. Would most likely revisit another time.
Tanya Roberts
I have had many Korean bbq restaurant outings and this place is my fav. Great food and the meat platters are a good size for the price you pay. It helps that the meat is sliced extremely thin for quicker cooking! The service isn't amazing so I have given 4 out of 5 stars...and the place gets really busy at dinner times every night of the week so if you are new to the experience it could be a bit overwhelming!
Chalitsuda Ng
Love the BBQ combo. It came with soup, dumplings and bowls of rice. The vibe also very warm and welcoming. Staff are willing to explain and help us through out the meal. Had a great time
Kong Phaithunsawat
Lovely place for family gathering. Food & service is decent. Prices is very cheap comparing to other korean bbq restaurants that we have been. Will be coming back again.
Lily Tang
This is a kbbq place close to home and easy to get. The prices for kbbq is realllyyy good for what you get and the kimchi is reallyyyy nice. The staff is always there to help. The sausage stew is also really nice and you get a lot for just $30. It’s nice as a hangover soup because it’s hot. I come here often and would recommend

I also came here recently with a very very big group and booked half the restaurant and I’m happy they did in such short notice. I did notice they rushed us like a lot because they cooked the meat as soon as the last batch finished cooking and that sort of forced us to eat faster because if not the meat would burn. I understand they needed tables for customers but we’re customers and it was rude to rush us like that. All in all, nice place
Street Cred
A nice experience. My family came here for Mothers Day and we had the Family Combo.
The restaurant was extremely busy, and the staff served us well.
The Family Combo was excellent value, as always the Korean condiments of Kimchi and selected offerings are unlimited. The meat was of an excellent standard and the cuts that had been marinated were outstanding. Surprise of the afternoon was the Soybean Soup, it is seriously good.

While this isn't the best Korean BBQ around the restaurant is super clean, staff efficient, well priced, and a very good standard of food.

We all walked away happy with Haysung.

It is a very good opportunity to visit Springvale Area knowing that there are more than just noodles and what not.
Thank you for being here guys,

From one of Springvale young family
Had some bbq here in Springvale and it tasted really nice. Thought the soondubu jigae a tiny bit bland but it solved everything with a tiny bit of salt. The Mandu was alright nothing special but I do enjoy them. The service and staff here was amazing though, there was this one staff that helped us with grilling our meat and was really nice to us.
Judy
Nice local Korean restaurant close to home, has fairly a good selection of dishes and the staff are very friendly. Highlight of the meal was the beef ribs, they were marinated well and paired with rice made it a treat. The buldak chicken is quite spicy for all you chilli lovers!
Tony K
Very good quality and good serive. Very friendly served. I will must visit again.
I ordered some soup and BBQ set. Good tastes and quality beef and pork served.
Milla Vanilla
Meat is well marinated and produce is fresh - you’d hope so as the market is literally outside the door! Japchae was a good add-on to the family BBQ set but pancakes were a miss.. not as crunchy when served on a wooden board. Kim chi was delicious and makes up for the fact there’s only 3 banchan. Ventilation could be improved but happy to smell a little smokey after a good, affordable meal!
Robert.powney
Went there with family including kids. Good meat. Good choice. Recommend short beef rib, and Spicey Pork. Good selection of beers. Excellent service.

Rob.

Service was great!! Meat was so fresh and delicious. Hidden gem in Springvale! Food was great!! Portion sizes huge. Got the bbq set and was more than enough for 3 people.
William Nguyen
About as good as KBBQ gets - outside of Korea and for this kind of price.
Sure, the meat is incomparable to A5 Wagyu but if that's what you're looking for, I think you might be in the wrong suburb. That said, it is still very tasty and enough to satisfy that occasional KBBQ craving.
Service is also efficient, I raised my hand many times throughout the night and somebody was there almost immediately and brought whatever it was within seconds. The only issue was that I ordered an extra plate of japchae which never came. This was probably for the best as I left with a very full stomach anyway.
Lucy Eats
I love kimchi fired rice here, it comes with actual pork meat, not spams like other restaurants and side dishes too. Tteokbokki also good with full of fish cake and extra $2 cheese really worth it!

Food: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
We ordered the soondubu jjigae and octopus bimbimbap for lunch and what a pleasant surprise this was. The stew was seasoned well with generous amounts of tofu whist the combination of the vegetables and spicy octopus in the bimbimbap made us crave more. Our only critique would be that there wasn't enough in the rice dish.

Service: 🌟🌟🌟
Food didn't take long to arrive and service was okay.

Price: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
We ordered the lunch specials which made our meals very affordable. We'd definitely be back at a lunch time.

A few things have changed since I've last been here. They now have card facilities, alcohol and extended the menu.

Service is always friendly and helpful. They cook your meat for you. Prices are not too bad and meat seems fresh. We got the premium platter for $65, fried rice, pan-fried pork dumplings and a spicy tofu soup. It was a little too much for the 4 of us. I especially liked the spicy tofu soup.

This is a place I'd return to wherever I'm in the area and looking for a nice restaurant with good service and ambience.

The decore was not what you would expect out of Springvale, warm and comforting vibe, I have eaten here on a few occasions, from the bbq to the regular dishes. The meals tend to hit the standard for Springvale, nothing out of the box. Staff were super friendly and efficient. Great service !
Ruvashnee Naidoo
Been here a few times now. Service is always good. The BBQ is tasty and also good value for money. I enjoy the bibimbap here. Some of the other dishes are average: kimchi stew and seafood pancake.
Jessica On
The 2 times i have been here , can summarize that the food is average with expensive pricing。 The japchae I had today was 12 bucks and only had noodles and few vegies, prob the plainest japchae I have had at a restaurant. My partner had the spicy chicken dish topped with cheese with rice and he enjoyed it but 20 dollars for that is still on the expensive side for the portion they give. Definitely better Korean joints around.

Rice cooker cooking on the floor? Lovely. This restaurant is a complete rip off. We ordered a bimbimbap for $14 which had mixed salad leaves and a small amount of protein. Think the chef could look into using something more traditional and the atmosphere was pretty awful. The staff kept changing the music and the volume. They were also prepping lettuce at customer tables.

We had a fantastic double birthday celebration at Haysung.

We booked through the Zomato app and got fast confirmation. When our Uber cancelled on us, we had to call and tell them we would be 30 mins late. On a busy Friday night we thought it would be a problem but it was fine.

Our table for 6 was ready when we got there. The best table on the upper level. Staff very friendly and helpful. We ordered 2 of the combo bbq selections and some entrees, lots of drinks and waited for everything to happen... And it sure did. Quite soon our table was heaving with food to eat and to BBQ on the hotplate.

A note on the hotplate was they have charcoal lumps on a centre bowl in the burner. Otherwise powered by butane, it added a nice smokeyness without the need for huge extraction fans and if you turn the gas off later on, the charcoal keeps the grill warm. I really like how it worked.

As for the BBQ combos, there was heaps of meat to grill and the staff were really helpful in trimming cuts and turning the meat, which was really quite delicious.

My only complaint was the constant and never ending banging and crashing of metal tableware, of which Korean cuisine is known to use a great deal of.

On 3 occasions large baskets were dropped, and the rest of the time, one table near us and other guests served as a drying and stacking station. Granted, the place is small and busy and there is nowhere else to do it. I hope they do well enough to move into larger premises so they can resolve that little problem.

Everything else was great and we will most certainly be back. Tremendous value too. Lots of drinks and 6 of us ate like kings with plenty of leftovers for $250.

Haysung is awesome!

Got the Marinated combo. Plenty of food for two. Delicious and so many ways to enjoy the meat. The Marinated Spare Ribs was marbled to perfection. The staff is very accommodating and cook all the food for you to your liking.

Had been here once before for brunch and really enjoyed it. Decided to celebrate hubby's bday with dinner here this time. 1.5+ hour wait but totally worth it! Excellent food & service.

Come here often with friends. Never actually go for the KBBQ which is way overpriced for the portions. So we usually just opt for the lunch specials.

PRO 👍🏻: The food is alright. Atmosphere is really nice and comforting, there are these 2 male staff who are usually the ones actually serving people and they are really nice, but tbh I’ve never actually seen the female staff ever do anything but talk and work the register.

CON 👎🏻: A little bit too pricey, and the portion aren’t that big but it’s alright tbh. Staff is usually on the other side of the store where they can’t see the area where we are usually seated, so we often have to get up and go to a member of staff to ask for something, but it’s alright, since they can’t do anything about the layout of the store. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Went for the bbq banquet which was $75 for 2 ppl. The grill was too high so all the meat turned out burnt and I mean burnt!!! Couldn’t eat half the meal because it was charcoal. Made a request to the waitress to change the grill as it was thick with charcoal and she acted put out by it and said it was our fault for burning the food!!! Terrible customer service.... when I brought it up with a different waitress at the end of the meal she said we should have turned down the grill ourselves... who knew that that was an option and surely customers aren’t expected to inspect the grill at a restaurant and try and work out how to turn it down. Ridiculous!!! Even after bringing it up, no compensation, nothing. After all that spent $75 on charcoal!!!! Never again. Avoid this place it you value customer service or a decent meal...
Bun's Food Diaries
Been a couple of times here for lunch, not for the bbq but for their other dishes. Food is very average, for when I want a change from the typical Springvale (Chinese/Viet) offering rather than quality food.
Sarah
Good Korean barbecue for a reasonable price. Staff are Korean and cook the meat for you. Free refills of kimchi, lettuce and other side dishes.
Flying Forward
Points for: Tender Beef Rib Stew
Dine Time: Friday Dinner

The soondooboo jjigae looked a little clear, but had really good seafood flavour, with a bunch of mixed seafood at the bottom, and deliciously soft, silken sofu on top. Not spicy at all and good value at only $10, but doesn't come with rice (extra $2).

The beef rib stew (galbi jjim) was addictively sweet and super beefy. You can pull apart the strands of beef with a spoon, it's so tender. A little bit pricier at $18, still with no rice included.

As for side dishes, only kimchi and beansprouts provided.

I feel the exhausts could work a little harder to extract the smells, but it was pretty busy actually. A year ago I felt Springvale needed a good Korean restaurant, because the other Asian countries love watching K-dramas and delving into Korean food. I started a business plan, and all of a sudden Haysung and The Dream popped up.

Personally, if I was going to have k-bbq, I'd do it over charcoal, whereas Haysung only use gas plates.
I think to be successful and have longevity, they need to think what the locals really want, and what they can do differently from other k-bbqs just down the road in Clayton.
Steven Solly
Love this place. Service was great, it is well priced, local and the food was very nice. We had the Spicy BBQ set for 3 and a special drinks set of 2 x Grapefruit Soju and 4 Cass beers. The Kimchi soup was delicious and the sides of Kimchi & bean salad etc were endless. Only downside and not their fault I suppose was the toilets were outside in the shopping complex and had just been washed down with a fire hose lol. Overall a great experience though.
Notevenpicky
Ummmmmmmmm BBQ small portions and average quality meat. Expensive for what it is and little to no service. Utensils also not the cleanest, and the water is the bad kind of tap water.
Basketballyesss
Nice Korean meals. Great services and food. The food I had was the baby octopus. The sides dish also nice. I will return again next time to try different menus.
Anna Do-Le
yeah, so
Customer service- terrible there super rude I think there is only one guy who is nice . There's another guy but he's never there I only see him walking in and out of the restaurant . The girls there are plain rude , they can be nice when we pay the bill but other than that there rude . Was eating with my friend . I tried to ask her to get me something but she just stood there talking

Food- the food is average not the best or bad . I recommend going to The Dream - Korean Bistro ( another Korean place near here ) the Korean bistro is so much better . But the food there is just average .

Really dispointed with this restaurant and felt been cheated....
One of my bill supposed to be charge 18 dollars been changed 20 dollars is that the way u get a profit ? Even the zomato menu said that its 18 dollars how embarrassing...
Eventhough this is only 2 dollars for us this is the last time we will going here
Coco
Ordered the Tofu soup with seafood and rice. Notuch seafood in it. Only one small piece of prawn, pipi and a tiny piece of calamari. Oh forgot to mention there were 3 really tiny shrimps (probably size of a 5c coin) too. The toufu was nice and soft. The soup cost $10 but I would happily pay more to get better quality food. The restaurant was clean and tidy though. May try the Korean BBQ next time but definitely not the soups.
Margaret
Food was fantastic. Meat was served fresh with sides of Kimchi & vegetables. Bibimbap bowls were superb despite not being served in traditional sizzling hot bowls. Service was quick & pleasurable. The interior mimicked a typical Korean BBQ restaurant with timber throughout the entire restaurant which was great. You forget that a shopping mall is right outside. There are no down chimneys which is a plus, you can enjoy your meal without your view being obstructed. Very crisp & clean interior, fantastic fresh meat & great side dishes. I highly recommend if you're in the area, to drop past. I recommend the pan dried dumplings & octopus balls as entrees & go in for the premium meats to BBQ.

Finally a decent Korean BBQ place has opened up in Springvale. I like getting the Kim Chi soup here which is $10 and the Kim Chi pancake is pretty good too. The Korean BBQ sets are standard and nothing to rave about. It's good enough to eat but nothing amazing about it.
Diep Dan
Good food, good service. Still taste a lot of msg though. The restaurant is new, clean and we love how smart the table and chair is designed. Kimchi side dish is yum.
Simone
Although a bit on the pricey side, Haysung has some pretty good food.

The samgyeopsal is okay, it could have been marinated better. However, compared to most restaurants in Springvale, I really like the ambience here. Very clean and modern.

The bibimbap is quite adequate but alright. I love the fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce here! It's honestly perfect.
Chehuy275
Shit service, i asked for a pair of chopstick because it was run out of chopstick, the waitress came and said:" You can go get it yourself" . Very shit service, not highly recommend

A breath of fresh air for Springvale now offering Korean aswell. Really great looking place! Good service! Super fast service. Well presented and tasted great. Good menu and not the mention so cheap! For $10 a dish I cant complain.
K347
This is a relatively new joint in Springvale, a thorn among the roses if you will. In a suburb laden with Indo-Chinese offerings from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, there lies a Korean BBQ joint.
The immediate thought is; why would they go against the grain and establish a presence where there are so many eateries already, many good ones I might add, targeting a core market that are mainly Vietnamese and Southeast Asian populace? Surely that is not a sure fire recipe for success?
However, if one think deeper, that is actually not a bad thing. Firstly, Haysung is not a me-too eatery there. And secondly, there is already a captive market because most who travel to eat there know that Springvale holds a certain (high) standard for good food. So, Haysung just need to fulfil their end of the bargain, i.e. deliver good food.
And generally they did not disappoint. We ordered the Premium Platter and supplement with a couple of other dishes.
What we like:
1. The place is generally very clean, a sea change from the other eating joints we come to accustomed to in Springvale.
2. The staff are Korean, so they know their food. (Sorry about this, but I am generally suspicious of joints that are run by other nationalities touting that they serve authentic fares they serve, like I know of a Caucasian that runs a Thai restaurant and numerous Chinese owners selling Japanese and fish & chips, etc. Not generalising here but I have been more disappointed than impressed on many occasions)
3. Service was prompt and generally polite.
4 Food are tasty.
5. The portion are generous for the price (compared to other places we have been)
What we thought could be better:
1. They only have 3 condiments. Way short of expectations for an authentic Korean joint.
2. They seems to rush our meal even though the restaurant was not full. One of them was helping us with the BBQ and she seems to 'nudge' us into finishing our food. Or at least that's what I felt.
Overall, a good experience for us 4. The portions fill our stomachs without us feeling bloated. Food's authentic and the restaurant is very pleasant to be in.
A nice alternative to the phos and broken rice that dominate Springvale.
Pleased by the atmosphere, service and food. Had the summer special - Mul neangmyun. It was lovely. Will definitely come back to give this place a chance.

Came here for dinner last night because we had a craving for bibimbap. We ordered bibimbap and i also tried to order their spicy seafood soup with added udon but they wouldnt let me add udon even after i said i wpuld pay for the extra udon. I though this was quite odd and it doesnt take much to cook udon. I ended up getting seafood udon. They were pretty stongy with the seafood as there was only 1 prawn 1 piece of squid and 1 pipi in the noodle soup. The food was good but a bit pricey at $14 per dish.

As I am vegetarian, I ordered a tofu bibimbab (come with miso soup) for Sunday lunch. It's very tasty, very Korean, very authentic, waitress are polite, it's a good place to grab quick lunch before or after springvale grocery shopping. Recommended👍👍👍

Really enjoyed the tofu bibimbap 😍 never tasted tofu that was so amazing before and the tteokbokki was spicy but gooood !! Close to home and not too overly priced, I was satisfied :)

hmmmm I had my hopes up for a decent Korean in a Viet neighbourhood!! sadly not so.. seemed ok and had been planning to go for awhile as its ran and staffed by Koreans ..

had the kimchi soup, seafood udon noodles, bean curd soup, beef bibimbap.. all were pretty average. My bibimpap wasn't even tasty. Usually u can rely in the fried beef to get u over the line but nahhh no good!! rice was not hot or Luke warm.. slightly warm only and was in chunks like cold overnight rice ... the udon noodles were ok. Good broth. But the seafood used were hmmm one word meeeh (okok I know it's not a word)

Kimchi soup and tofu soup just lacked something. Don't know what is but both didn't have much flavour.. might bring in the flavour packs from my kimchi instant noodles next time..

I would give it a try again next time to support them.. n hopefully improved by then.. oh they also have bbq there. Might do that next...

Just had lunch here today with the family. The restaurant has nice decor everything new and clean. The back of the restaurant is a bit hot especially with all the bbqs going on. The service is fast and efficient. We ordered a whole heap of food including meats for the bbq and everything was good. The prices were not too high as well. It's so good have something different as opposed to the usual Vietnamese/Chinese restaurants in the area. Thumbs up! I forgot to take photos woops

Nice atmosphere and nice deco, we got attracted by their 10 dollar lunch special and ended up ordering a bbq banquet for 2 . Price is fair compared to other Korean restaurant, but stightly dearer than other pho and restaurant in Springvale.

[Menu available in blog post] As some local foodies may already be aware, I am pleased to announce that Springvale has welcomed into the community, its first Korean BBQ restaurant. Haysung Korean BBQ is located at the newer Springvale shopping centre, spread across shops 26 and 50 with two access points. It is a couple of stores down from Bread Kingdom, near the large Springvale entrance gateway just before Thanh Dat restaurant on Buckingham Avenue.

First up - simply awesome to see someone opening up something other than (YET ANOTHER) Pho or Noodle restaurant (there's just far too many in Springvale already that are virtually identical offerings).

Some of the things we thought were good -

Good menu with lots of options (more entrees than normal too which we like).

The prices are very, very cheap here - so really great value for money - table cooked meat/seafood dishes (200g) only $15-$20 too. Lot's of cheap lunch options if you work in the area too or just want a quick snack.

Nice decore/seating, comfortable, warm and cosy - nice place to go during Winter. Coal/Gas hot plates inlaid into the wooden tables - but not so big there's no space on the table (as we've seen elsewhere).

Food is pretty good (not amazing)- table cooked Beef Bulgogi is really nice - probably one of the tastiest we've had when cooked well.

However (what needs improvement) -

We've been here a couple of times and the quality/consistency isn't quite there yet - hope this will improve as they get more experience. First time we came the dumplings were really nice - next visit they were oily and not cooked properly. On second visit the guy serving us wasn't quite as attentive of our table cooking so the beef was a bit overcooked too. Also things like the seafood pancake are a little bit more boring than we are used to.

So - it's unfortunately not quite as good as the (much) more expensive Korean restaurants you get in Clayton (like Kang Na Roo) - would be happy to pay more here to get some better food. However due to the really cheap prices it's pretty great value as long as you have accordingly lower expectations.

Anyhow - great again to see more folks opening non-Pho restaurants here - hope this starts a trend and makes Springvale a bit more exciting. (there's a bunch of new shop fronts accross the road - really hoping for some new interesting stuff there too - would love some Malaysian/Hawker, Japanese + Thai - preferably not cheap ones).
