Review Minh Ky 1 Restaurant - Springvale

FAMOUS FOOD D.I.Y
Let me just say its extremely had to find good crispy noodels these day's, and since the best best crisp noodle joint 'Hop Ky' in Springvale closed some years ago, it's left quite a void in my life. Well the void has been filled now! Minh Ky offers excellent crispy noodles, with plenty of combinations and sauces on offer, and a very generous server to match the reasonable prices. This is a great little Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant tucked away in the Springvale Sth Shopping centre which is also renowned for its roasted meats. Definitely a favourite amongst the locals and well worth a short commute.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you enjoyed this review please consider giving it a like 👍and you can follow me by clicking on my icon for more honest and insightful reviews😁.

Was a regular until now. Ordered takeaway before closing time, had one guy getting impatient with me, with broken english & in a rush to close... Fun. Oh, & is chicken supposed to look this pink inside? It smelt like feet we had to throw the whole thing out! Time to go elsewhere, disappointing af!!

Always fast friendly service. Everything we have eaten there has been fantastic. Our family favourite.

Have been a regular of this place for years that the staff know our order and I havent left a review yet. The food and value for money is just perfect, every time we dine we leave super satisfied and happy.

Love the food and the service. I always take out of town guests here to see the staff chop the pork and duck. Very authentic Vietnamese food in well spaced out restaurant. They also have a number of old favorite Chinese menu items. Its licensed and BYO. Heaps of parking in the local shopping centre. Disabled parking available. Staff are great and attentive and yes, they all speak good English.

Excellent food and service. Their QR code for the menu has a bit of a problem.

The most delicious food and amazing service at this place! A hidden little gem in Springvale. Can’t wait to go again for another yummy feast.

It's a great place with big servings. Very tasty items. Ordered 20 pieces Peking Duck, Roast pork and soy chicken with tomato rice and Beef noodles. I'd recommend this place. I'd go back.

Ordered crispy pork, chicken, veggies and asked for large rice to take away. By the time we got home, there was no rice. Called up and ask them why we didn’t get rice and if we got charged and the girl I spoke to said she didn’t charge for the rice. I asked why she didn’t tell me, she said she “forgot”. Even though I didn’t get charged for the rice, it’s about the principle of letting your customers know that you didn’t include the rice in the order. So we have to cook our own rice 😑

Came an hour before closing. Ordered roast pork and roast duck. The duck pieces were very bony without much meat and pork was super fat, like 80% fat and 20% meat. I'm not sure if it's because it's end of day and they only have crap parts left or what, but it was pretty disappointing. Was not given much protein at all. Even only just got 3 slices of cucumbers, like they can't be bothered cutting up new one.
I'm giving it a 2.5 because of flavour. While the meat parts given were bad and were leftover scraps, The dishes very flavoursome (pork was a bit too salty). The chili oil is also very good (can buy for $6). I'll give it one more shot and hope I'll get proper meat and not just bones or fat.

Food proportions are very generous here, and I find their food quality as also rather good. Their roast pork and duck are my favourite dishes at this restaurant. However, although I’m satisfied with their food, their staff’s attitude definitely needs improvement. Customer service is lacking and their staff needs to be more attentive and polite

Came here a couple of times after having always gone to the Minh Ky outlet closer to Springvale central. It's much easier to find parking here than the other one especially at busier times. There's also more seating at this location. One our latest visit, it took ages for my beef brisket and egg noodles to arrive, it came when my partner had almost finished his dish. I did enjoy the dish though with it's thick and rich sauce and good amount of meat. I wasn't a big fan of the hainan chicken either - meat was a bit overcooked and rough, plus they served it with way too much garlic and spring onion. The tea also tastes a bit strange and there's a smell that makes the place feel like it's not well cleant. Service is typical of Asian resturants in springvale, non-attentive. For convenience we may drop by but not as good as the other outlet. Another downside is that there's a 1% surcharge on all card payments.

I wasn't sure if this place was a 'find your own seat and go order' or 'table service' venue. So after trying dismally to catch the eye of a waiter, I went ahead and sat down. Eventually, a waitress came and took our order.

I ordered the roast pork with vermicelli and salad, plain congee with Chinese donuts and spring rolls. The dishes were ok, similar to what my mum makes at home type thing. Homely. Just a pity my bowels didn't agree.

There is EFTPOS (with surcharge). Seems popular with takeaway roast meats.

I've been a customer at this place for years. The quality overall has gone downhill. The customer service is really poor and the staff look like they don't even want to work or even be there. I ordered roast pork and bbq sausage with tomato rice. The roast pork was cold and tough.

Complimentary soup is usually served but I've had to constantly remind the staff in order to receive it. I've tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt for a long time now (in hopes that it'll return to it's former glory) but it has continued to disappoint time after time again.

Delicious hearty pho. One of the better pho's in Springvale. They provide a good amount of noodles and meat without being stingey. Will definitelty return when I'm craving Pho.

It was late and I stumbled upon this place. Service was lacking and non-attentive and ambiance is very casual; there was only one waiter managing the floor but did not take much notice of customers unless flagged down after multiple attempts. To my surprise, the food came out quickly and was very well done; my table had ordered two sets of broken rice and the meat (of chicken and pork) were one of the better broken rice dishes I've ever tried. A second restaurant had opened in Springvale's central retail area and I would be keen to see how that compares.

Lemongrass and chili beef vermicelli noodle salad was sensational. Large portion, fresh veggies/mint and the beef was very tender. The home made nuoc mam was to die for!!!
Only let down was the service. I was ignored when I first walked in and had to wait 15 minutes to order as the wait staff seemed too disinterested in actually serving customers and just chatted amongst themselves. The restaurant wasn't busy at all!!!

The food was good without being exceptional. I had the salt and pepper chicken ribs with tomato rice. The batter was thicker and heavier than I'd prefer but otherwise it was fine. My dining partner had the sliced beef noodle soup. She said that it was good, but different to others she had elsewhere without being able to pinpoint how. The dining area is large and open, feeling more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. The gentleman who took our order wasn't particularly warm, but the other waitstaff were pleasant.

Been eating here for a year now and definately best chinese food in the area. The roasts are top notch as well as the crispy noodles all very generous proportions. Soups are ok, prefer to head down to springvale station for my pho fix. Service is always friendly.

Came with a group for dinner. Food came out at different times but service was really friendly, and cheerful. Meals are quite big and very cheap. Menu is quite big too. A lot of the table ordered smoothies, which they said they really enjoyed (especially the coconut and the durian ones). I ordered prawn dumplings to share and grilled chicken and vermicelli noodle salad. Dumplings weren't the best, but I was expecting a different type of dumpling, so it may have been my disappointment, but they came out cold and didn't have much flavour, I still ate they so I can't complain, they were nice, but not the best.. but the chicken salad was really tasty, with fresh ingredients and the chicken was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Best enjoyed when food is taken away. Stick with the roast meats and a few simple dishes. For anything else, it's probably more worthwhile fighting for a carpark down in Springvale.

SERVICE: 2.5/5
Don't expect any friendly service with a smile here. Just be happy you get your food pretty quick if you do takeaway. Eating in requires you to regularly seek the attention of waiters.

FOOD: 3.5/5
The roast duck and soy chicken both do the job here. Although the duck skin could be crispier (not many places can get this right so I'm forgiving), both options are still tasty enough. I do like that they've never complained about giving me extra sauces!
I also like the vermicelli noodle salads here - generous in size, fresh veggies/mint and tasty choice of meat. All with the sweet nuoc mam to top it off.

Best to go elsewhere for Pho.

DECOR & AMBIENCE: 2.5/5
Typical Vietnamese restaurant - uninspiring, drab and could be cleaner. At least this one is a slightly more spacious so you're not brushing past people when walking by.

KID FRIENDLY: Yes

The food here is excellent. They are one of the best places in Springvale/Springvale South to eat. But all of the effort they put into their food could not rescue the horrible customer service. Staff seem ok until you start enquiring about the menu. My friend asked them what there was in the combination noodle and received a raise of eyebrow from the staff with a condescending answer: "a combination of meat. It is called combination noodle". How rude! Half of them dressed like bikers with cap worn backward and look as though you are bothering them by asking for service. They also ALWAYS forget the sauce/dressing/veggies to go with your food until you ask and then again give you the attitude for that. It feels like the owner is trying to cut on wage budget and keep hiring new staff, as my partner and I went there every Friday and we saw a new face every time! Perhaps that's why they don't seem to know the menu really well.
I get that it's cheap food and we shouldn't expect 5 star service, but it doesn't mean you can treat your customers like that. There are other places with same quality food and much better customer service - where we don't get treated like crap. NOT RETURNING.

On Friday last month, me and my husband went there for dinner. We loved to eat there everyweek, because the food and service were always good. The restaurant was very busy at that time, and luckly we got one tiny table in the middle of the restaurant. We ordered food to one of the staff, which doesn't look familiar to us, and he doesn't really understand the menu.

We waited for 30 minutes, starving, and feeling weird because all the people that came after us got all of their food. Maybe because the restaurant was busy, we taught, when suddenly one of the senior staff come to our table and apologized that the new staff member who took our order, forgot to input our order in the system!

It took 30 minutes for him or them, to realized that he missed our order! We should repeat our order once again, and wait for another 20 minutes for the food to come, brought by the new staff who forgotten our order, and he just put our food on the table and left!
Not even say or feel sorry!

We have wasted our time, because we should work overnight after that, and we lost our appetite already....

Went there a week after, around 10.30 AM to celebrate something with our friend. The waiter served us while having his breakfast. He delivered our food while chewing his food. Disgusting and disrespectful.

After few weeks avoiding that resto, I decided to try once again because I miss the soup. I walked in and sat down for ages, and no one approaching me eventhough the resto was not busy.

That's it. I walk out, and say goodbye to Minh Ky. Great food, delivered with poor service.

One of the best places to have Vietnamese food. Family friendly and easy going. Good selection of dishes available here. Order from rice meat dishes to delectable phos.

This is your typical Asian restaurant where the service and decor are less than average, but the great food keeps you coming back! I love this place! The best Pho by far. Very cheap. We get change out of $50 for 2 adults and 2 kids and usually have left overs to take home.

I've been here a few times and food was good. However last night was a let down. All 3 dishes was extremely salty and I barely enjoyed the wonton soup. Disappointed!

BEST FOOD!! Friendliest Staff, nicest roast pork belly, duck, bbq pork and chinese sausage Best PHO!!
The owner showed us the huge pressure roasters out the back :D the new Springvale Sesh Fav! :)

Update: real let down :( stinky soup, cloudy grainy pho, dry beef looked like it had been chewed. A real backflip from last time.. shattered

Consistently reliable good food, especially the fresh seafood where you actually see the workers fish it out of the tank for you. The roast duck and pork is one of the best I've had in melbourne (not fatty, crispy skin, full flavour) and can compare to the roast I've had in Hong kong. The pho is pretty good even though they doesn't specialise in it. My favourite would be the pork rice vermicelli with spring rolls. Extensive drink menu with interesting drinks you can't get else where. Love the soda egg and avocado smoothie. You can tell that they dont just make a smoothie for you they actually have put in effort to perfect the recipe and that is something I appreciate from restaurants .Customer service is better than your average in springvale.Ambiance however is just your typical asian restaurant, clean but not the best looking restaurant I've ever been to.
I go to Springvale quite frequently for vietnamese food and like to try out new restaurants but have found that my new default is always Minh ky.

I was a fan of Rock Kung in Glen Waverly until now, Minh Ky is your typical Asian type of restaurant. It has all the pics of the food printed on paper with the names written on it hanging on the walls, full of mirrors and a fish tank with your different fish, crabs. When you walk in you have the roast ducks and pork hanging in the window. You know it is good when you see a lot of people in it and it is always busy. I was told about the barbeque pork but this time i felt like eating there not just getting take away. The drinks are dirt cheap, a Heineken cost me $4.50 and that is crazy cheap for a restaurant. Kim wanted a lot of meat so we did just that. We ordered the Crispy pork and BBQ Pork, the meat was tender and sweet. The crispy pork was amazing, so much crackling. We ordered the Kang Kong (Water spinach) with garlic, It is such a massive serving and so fresh. The last dish we ordered was the Salt and Pepper Japanese Tofu, it was so random. Crispy on the outside and the tofu was so soft and juicy in the center. It had capsicum, chilli, onions, shallots. I have never had it before but i really loved it, It was so much food we had left overs for lunch. I think it will be my local place especially for the quality and taste. Kind -Egards Dale Stewart

Bowl of goodness. They do a special dish that I can only find here. A bowl of thick warm noodles with meatloaf, spring rolls, cucumber, fried shallots, peanuts topped with coconut cream. Pour in your own fish sauce.

Several times I've made the long drive to Springvale just for this big bowl of goodness.

Overrated?!. Went there due to the overwhelmingly good reviews on their roasts. Was very disappointed. The roast duck had an artificially red appearance and we had mostly bones with the serve. The roast pork was ok but too saltish for my liking. Won't be returning and still puzzled by the rave reviews about their roasts, pacific house and most places in the city are heaps better!

Best Chilli Oil EVER. Been eating at Minh Ky for a while, we've usually found it fairly quiet and easy to get a table at, however the last time we met friends there for a meal it was absolutely heaving!! Cant go past the fried rice with roast pork and chinese broc together with a plate of their delicious roast meats - BBQ pork and duck. Yum yum. Don't miss the opportunity to purchase some of their home made chilli oil to take home... it makes everything taste good :)

Excellent. Hidden away from main roads, Minh Ky is a standout Asian restruant from a town full of them. Well, thats what happens if you are in a town where the majority of the people are Asian expats.

The standout is the roast pork, duck, prawn dumplings, and the sizzing Mongolian plate.

Delicious food - yummy Peking duck! Great takeaway service too for all your duck and pork! We love this place. Child friendly and great service

Best BBQ Restaurant ever I had. Roast duck I had is best ever I had so far. The duck is very crispy and roast pork with crunchy skin is so yummy. I have dinner with my family and we are so happy with their friendly staffs and service.

We try roast dishes as their best - known dishes. Its awsome and cant complain any. Then I have stir fried noodles with crab and ginger - onion sauce. Its mouth - watering with fresh tasty crab meat and sauce. My brother had honey chicken on fried rice. One more thing is drink and desert menu. I love fried ice-cream and mango smoothies. Its fresh!

Sure for come to have dinner again.

Why bother. I am no longer a fan of the service or the food at this place. On more than one occasion I have had the waiter roll his eyes, snatch the money out of our hands and speak loudly in another language when we asked to split the bill. And this is AFTER they asked "would you like to pay separately", and then decide its all too hard and make it very clear that we are being a nuisance. Why offer to split the bill then?! You also get this treatment if you are paying via eftpos instead of cash.

Other than that the food is bland, and i have given this place too many chances to lift their game. Better off going to Thien Phu around the corner.

Good joint for duck and roast pork. However we always get some of the seafood particularly the snapper which some fresh vegetables. Winning.

Fabulous and interesting flavors and textures. Amazing duck. My only criticism is that the Vietnamese coleslaw was spiced for Western palates. I wish that such restaurants would recognise that a good amount of Westerners visit Asian restaurants is precisely because we need an authentic chilli hit. The food is a shadow of what it could be without this, and I wish that they didn't have such a low opinion of Westerner's palates.

Like. Friendly service, good food, good prices, and just down the road! win win win

Friendly staff.......good for kids, great spring rolls and roast meats!

Great recommendation. Tried this place for the first time this week (it was a recommendation from a friend). I wanted somewhere in this area with good food, but that was cheap. This place delivered! The menu was extensive - lots to choose from & every dish that came out of the kitchen looked good. The venue is a good size, clean & light with an open kitchen to one side. The BBQ pork (I had it in XO sauce) was delicious - and was $12! Staff were friendly & the service good. I will definitely be returning. Give it a try!

Sensational roasting dishes with good service. I particularly like their chili oil, it's flavorsome. Try this place, you would not be disappointed

Generous Servings For Reasonable Price. Mum and I went to check the place out after reading the positive reviews on Urbanspoon, and now I'd like to add another. I had double porkchop on broken rice, mother had sweet sour pork. She obviously liked it because she just about finished the food - and normally she's a very spare eater. The pork chops were nice crisply done, rice was cooked just right - not too dry nor soggy, and came with soup and sweet-chili dip. Very large serving too, I ended up taking home the second piece of chop as I was already full by then. Will definitely come back and try the roast meats and other delectables on offer.

Nice relaxed atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. We had the duck and pork belly. Yummo!

The duck is to die for along with most of their dishes. Always pleasant & the beer is cold!! What more can you ask for.

Went here tonite with parents who adore Asian style cooking. A fantastic nite had the spring rolls & prawn dumplings for entree Peking duck, garlic prawns & a beef/veg dish all of which top rate. $140.00 for 5 that also included beers 10/10

DUCK!!!. Where do I start? One word that sums up this restaurant, AMAZING! Every Monday I go with family and friends and devour roast duck and other numerous foods on the extensive menu. This duck will blow your mind. On one occasion we had a table of 7 and ordered 3 whole ducks with other rice/noodle dishes. The owner approached us and said he had never served 3 ducks to that ratio, usually selling half a duck to the average table. Needless to say, we polished it all off. The price is great also. Where else can you get quality meals and come out so full? On average we spend $25 each, perfect!!!!......So Minh Ky, we shall see you next week!!!

I frequently come here for family gatherings and events such as mother's day and it never disappoints. I order their grilled pork with broken rice when I'm on the go and it's superb. It has become a regular visit for me.

Had the BBQ pork on rice for lunch. Pork was not bad (i still prefer oriental roast round the corner) but I'll be returning here for the generous portions of meat. Great value for money at $9.50.

Luv it, Luv it, Luv it. We have eaten here on many occasions and have always loved it. We have just had lunch there today and the meals were excellent. My Seafood Combination with Crispy fried Noodles is a must. Two dishes came to $24.00, where else can you dine so well and so inexpensively. Always busy, and I can see why. Highly recommended

Salt & Pepper Crab. Sensational best i ever tried thanks guys see you soon .. Service with a smile and all the dishes we ordered were great....

Must try roast duck and roast pork!!. We lived just next door to this location and loved it. It is our lazy Friday night dining restaurant whenever we don't feel like taking the car for a ride. Its slightly hidden from the main road (Athol Rd) and definitely cant be seen from busy Springvale Rd but its a hidden gem. Since its inception about 2 years ago this restaurant is running busy as ever. Its the only place you can get roast duck, char siew, siu yuk (roast pork belly) and soy chicken in this location without having to drive to main Springvale town. The owner himself Ming will be seen entertaining his patrons and keeping an eye out for you to ensure your food is served well. The staff are friendly and very very efficient. Sometime Ming's wife Candy can be seen chatting with the diners and you know you're in good hands. We have eaten here many many times and have seen the same faces coming back again. It has a mixture of both Asian and caucasian diners. The food menu is extensive, prices are reasonable, BYO at $2pp and best is the free in house chinese soup. Its authentic Vietnamese and Chinese dishes served with the chef's passion and definitely recommends this place to everyone. They closed only on Tuesday. Give it a go!
