Review Maxim Saigan Restaurant - Springvale

Paige Ventura
Great service, reasonable prices for the range of yum cha. Variety of options, fried and steamed, lots of prawn choices. Sundays have a lot of space n quick around the carts. Always greeted with smiles from majority of the wait staff. Thank you.

The Dim Sum/Yum Cha wasn't very good and.lacked flavour and even variety. Most were pork and Shrimp and the Eggplant dish we had wasn't even cooked (eggplant hard in most spots) . We have had dim sum in many Asian countries and Australia/US and we wouldn't return for the Dim Sum at this restaurant. The service was.good and the women serving the yum cha from the carts were pleasant and helpful. Just below average flavours for the 8 small dishes we had...the score of 2 is because the service by the staff was good. Sorry but don't recommend.

My family of 13 dined in on a Sunday evening, only two other tables were occupied by guests, despite the fact that it can hold 450 guests. Price was reasonable, we ordered 5 vegetables dishes and 6 meat dishes, all taste excellent. Not too salty, not too oily, perfectly cooked. Would go back.

Lovely yum cha restaurant in the vietnamese colony, very friendly auntie dim sums and staff. They are all trilingual / quadlingual with Cantonese, Mandarin and English, extremely helpful when you're looking for specific dishes and will help you order as well. Parking during the weekend is extremely competitive in the area, if you managed to park at the immediate parking area, you may ask the staff to give you free parking ticket to display on the dashboard. This is my favourite place for yum cha in Melbourne....

Food quality is very consistent and delicious! Came in for yum cha, would definitely come back here again but considering the average price per serving, only on special occasions as it averaged about $8.60 per serving for our 22 servings šŸ¤£

I found a whole Cockroach when i lifted my xiaolongbao. I regret not taking a photo. The manager took the dish away and replaced with a new one - i lost my appetite by then. I have asked for a discount, the owner, she said ā€œI already gave you the dish for freeā€. She was annoyed and did not apologise once. She ended up giving me 4 dollar discount on my 250 dollar bill. I am utterly upset by this and never had such an experience in Australia. Manager was apologetic.

Spent a lovely 2 hour lunch with my neice-inlaw. The food was delicious. However there seemed to be more steamed meals than fried in the yum cha.

Overall decent food and great live music. A local Vietnamese hangout

Good venue for function, food standard has improve a lot after new management by Tam, Phuong and Huong

The dumplings were exceptional and the service was with alacrity.

Overpriced and ordinary for what you can get in Springvale, not to mention we were the only ones there in a massive space with all staff watching you eat! Lift you game or drop your prices!

Couldn't complain. Whilst a little pricey,<br/>- we ordered a lot<br/>- it was wonderful food and more authentic than others we've tried<br/>- it was quick service (we were there 11:40am Saturday and it was quiet. Don't know if this was why)<br/>- service very attentive (eg tea top ups etc) and particularly friendly<br/>- no special orders took long or were stuffed up like I've seen elsewhere<br/><br/>We had chicken feet, dumplings, beef balls, chrong fun and a few desserts.<br/><br/>YUMMO. will be back.

This yumcha place has been here for some time and we came here for lunch. Generous amout of seats and the plates are constantly being cleaned and tea is refilled.<br/><br/>Food is not consistant and the skin on the hargao is overcooked and soggy.

I've tried Maxim Saigon a few times for an impulsive lunch of yum cha (it doesn't get too busy so it's easy to get a table without reservations). Service is attentive and friendly when I visit, they provide free parking tickets, the food trolley is constantly presented, tea is constantly refilled and empty plates get taken away swiftly. Food is average; occasionally some dishes lack consistency in terms of flavour and texture (cooking time). The interior is a time warp with a stage for events.

I had. maxim saigon for mothers day, the service was appalling.<br/>Staff werenā€™t happy or friendly, food was mediocre, staff just threw food on the table and no manners at all.<br/>Food was also hard to get when not many trolleys were coming at yum cha time.<br/>Wonā€™t be coming back for a while, I will be going back to gold leaf.

i been here a couple times. Not a fan. Mediocre looking restaurant and more importantly mediocre food. Odour in the restaurant is also bad.<br/><br/>why waste your time when you can go to Gold Leaf which is tones better with a better atmosphere.<br/><br/>i went here at lunch time 1 day and was extremely disappointed by the quality of the food. It tasted generic and plain.<br/>Second time I went to dinner with family and it did not improve. Was not worth the money. Cold meat, cold vegetables. Tasted like food I can make at home myself. Probably explains the lows score this place has.Ā <br/><br/>I could not care less if they have changed owners. It's still well below average. 2 thumbs down.

Mediocre food, filthy floors and toilets, late service<br/><br/>Came on a friday 12:20 lunch for yumcha, food trolley was late in being rolled out, and most food were fried. We asked for steamed food but was told not yet ready. Half an hour later, still not ready, so I asked where is the food, was told, "Not many people yet". Three women standing behind the counter who obviously can see that the customers were asking for food, but did not budge. <br/><br/>I asked for the menu so I can order, was told "No menu dumplings".<br/>When the siomai dumpling finally materialised on our table, the supermarketĀ  packed dumplings rate better and close to what siomai taste like.<br/><br/>Filthy smelly toilets and floor was dirty. <br/><br/>Apart from the waitress who tried their best to go in an out from the kitchen and check for the trolleys, there really is no redeeming quality to this restaurant.<br/><br/>Will not return to this restaurant.

Very nice service compare to others in the area, yumcha is nice but there is bo standout dishes. The food come out quickly, probably because there are not many customers

Food was ok, nothing special. We came at night at around 6. Here's the interesting thing about this place - there is a stage for customers to do karaoke.. yes, a big stage with disco lights and loud speakers.<br/>Good thing we came early because by 7:30 it started to get busy and customers started to sing 80s Chinese songs at a volume which gave me a headache. Want to converse with others on your table? You'll have to shout. I don't mind people singing but management really need to set the volume lower.

Terrible service, at first we waited for 30 mins for seating. I understand it is busy on father's day but there was literally no food had been served for almost 30 mins and after that all we have got is a plate of cold veggie. Definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all!!!

Mar 2018<br/>Mgt here are absolutely f#^#^##^#^!!! <br/><br/>I booked for my grandmothers birthday... 95 year old with a large number of guests!! What do they do? They take my booking and did not disclose they also had a wedding!!! <br/><br/>No apology no nothing!! F&c*#^%# s never again!!!<br/><br/>UPDATE 25 APR 2016...<br/>was here today for a family lunch.. really liked the prawn dumplings this time.. big prawn pieces and not salty as last visit. The prawn rice noodle roll was the exceptionally great today. Big tasty prawn pieces!! noodle roll was firm and soft not dry. also had the liu sha bao (molten salted egg custard steam bun).. this was pretty good. Not over done this time round. Centre was runny molten sweetness! YUM! <br/><br/>Previous notes... <br/>Not the best but not the worse for Yum Cha. Above avg pricing for sprngvale. Prawn Dumplings were too salty. But everything else was great!! Avoid on a Friday night unless you want full in Vietnamese Cha Cha with your meal. Dinner is not too bad but prefer gold leaf if in the area. Staff are helpful and can get u what u need in a flash despite their hurried appearance.

Came here last night with my partner. There was a libral party function here at the time. We ordered 2 dishes, a seafood hotpot and braised chicken with vegies. The food was pretty sub standard, tasteless and the service was ok. I wouldnt come back here as the food is poor quality and quite expensive.

One of the worst yam char places ive been to. The food tasted like it was cooked in low grade recycled oil. The prawns in the prawn dumpling had a stale taste to them. The fried yam wasnt crunchy at all. The toilets were filthy. I had to hold my bladder till i arrived home.

If thereĀ  was a crown to be given for most dysfunctional Restaurant in Springvale, this place tops the list. The management need to go back to school to understand what customer service is all about. Secondly, the food is inconsistent, not a place to come if you want to bring guests or friends. Visit at your peril. Save your money, stay at home, safer & more enjoyable than this establishment.

UPDATE 03/09<br/><br/>Came here again for Father's Day because it was closest to home. Still give them a 1 star. Waiting for more than an hour for our food and still terrible service. <br/>------<br/><br/>Came here for dinner and was very disappointed with my experience here. We ordered a banquet and it was more than half an hour before any food came. The manager was taking our orders and it didn't really seem like he wanted to serve us. He eye rolled us when we asked for extra jugs of soft drinks and cups.<br/><br/>Food was quite average and the quails were uncooked. We had to ask them to serve them again to us because it was not edible. <br/><br/>To be honest, I wouldn't come back here given the price we pay per head and the service we received.

On a Sunday afternoon, 5 of us decided to patron Maxim Saigon due to its consistently bustling queues. The place was a little tricky to find as it is hidden and you need to climb up a long flight of stairs leading to the restaurant. On that note, the restaurant will be a struggle for the disabled and elderly people to get to. When we arrived Maxim Saigon, it was buzzing as always and brimmed with staff hurrying around. After being ushered to a table shortly, we were excited for the yum cha cart to arrive. Little did we know, we had to wait around 20 mins for each yum cha cart to arrive at our table and no dumplings were in sight! We had to order dishes like prawn dumplings and scallop dumplings separately.Ā <br/><br/>Dishes i've tried:<br/>Steamed prawn dumplings- Fairly well done. According to the waitress, the restaurant makes its own dumpling skin from scratch. The prawn was succulent so thumbs up for the freshness!<br/>Scallop dumplings- Scallops were fresh and flavoursome. Loved it<br/>Beef tripe & tendons- A little undercooked but adequately flavoursome.<br/>Seafood & chive dumplings- Overcooked.<br/><br/>Desserts i've tried:<br/>Tofu Hua- Generally good but tofu was too crumbly.Ā <br/>Mango pudding- Love this dessert as it complements very well with evaporated milk! Yummmm<br/><br/>Personally, I don't mind coming back to this place again. While the atmosphere and service may be somewhat lacking, the quality of food was satisfying and reasonably priced.

Worst customer service ever.. Rude manager. Poor service. Would not recommend it to anyone for a night out.

Extremely friendly staff and exceptional service that went above and beyond. It was such a pleasant shock as this is completely alien to any other yum cha place I have ever seen or heard of. The staff were a family, loved working there and said so themselves. The yum cha itself was not bad, but would definitely go back as it was a top environment
Rumincheok
Never again. The dimsum was below average. The crispy noodles was chewy like elastic bands
Ninjapotatofruit
Once is enough. The dimsum was just average and on the salty side. The crispy fried noodles we ordered was like eating elastic bands.

Friendly service, reasonable prices. I would visit Maxim Saigon again and recommend it to anyone who wants yum cha without having to queue and wait for ages and with a reasonable variety and quality. There were all the usual suspects such as siew mai, sharks fin dumpling, prawn dumpling, steamed filled rice rolls, spring rolls, glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf etc etc. There were some creative items such as scallop filled fried mini yam basket which was very tasty. 8 dishes with tea for 2 totalled 55 dollars with 3 dishes we had to take away as our eyes were bigger than our stomachs :)

Fantastic service. We arrived for Yum Cha yesterday without a booking. Not a problem. We were seated and served our first round of dumplings within 2 minutes. The food was nice and hot and plentiful. The waitresses went out of their way to make sure that everyone was happy - in fact when a table beside us ordered a dish one even checked if we would like the same as our children were around the same age. <br/><br/>I don't know if the restaurant has changed hands, but we found it a very pleasant dining experience and we'll go back again

Late lunch at 230 pm. Roast meats, stir fry veg and steamed fish. Good service. TV available. USA playing World Cup soccer.

Worst night ever. Bad service. bad food, and terrible music. We had to shout to each other. All the head waiter wanted to serve was beer, beer and more beer. Two hours to get our mains. Never again.

Non-existent service and mediocre food. Been here a couple of times and both times, the service is minimal at best. Takes forever for the dim sum trolleys to get to you even though there are not many people, and when they do, they have a tiny selection! What's the point of opening at say, 11am, when more than half the yum cha selections are still steaming away? <br/>Even if I could live with this, the food is nothing fancy. Price-wise, it's pretty standard. There are better places to go

Best service yum cha in Springvale the waiters actually speak English and are very polite the food is tasty and actually comes to you regularly. defiantly recommend this over gold leaf as gold leaf is overrated flooded with rude waiters and over priced
Sara
Don't know why people don't like this place, but I love it. Every time I go for yum cha, the dumplings and food is great. Compared to Gold Leaf, this place has good food and great customer service. A waiter got my order wrong once and politely apologized and quickly brought the right order out. Waiters will always refill your glass of water or drink if it looks empty. Staff are all so friendly and warm. Love it.

Went here for fathers day. Was the biggest disappointment. Bad customer service, EXTREMELY bad food service, everthing was bad right down to the tea! Waited 15mins for table to be set up for a pre-book table, sat down, waited 15mins for trolley come around, by the time it did, there were only two crates, THEN 30mins laters another trolley finally comes around... With spinach! Its YUM CHA! I want dumplings! By this time we gave up, paid $21.50 for 3 crates and left to go Hoa Tran where the meal was 10x better. Never coming back.

Went there for dinner and we ordered a few courses. Price wise it was decent, however the soup was bland, there was no presentation what's so ever on a few of their dishes, the service was decent. Decor in the restaurant was ok but the lighting was bad.. It was meant to be karaoke night but there were hardly any "disco" lights
Taste Buds
Will not come back. Food was way to salty ! Prawns were so over cooked . We had 2 main dishes & one soup, they are all too salty.<br/>Not impressed with the service. The waiter who took our order came across a bit rude. We normally try not to waste food so we'd bring left over home. It was probably the first time we walked out with nearly half left and couldn't be bothered to bring it home as we know we won't eat it. <br/>Karaoke was kind of fun in the beginning but it becomes a bit annoying later on. We literally have to yell at each other to communicate. The atmosphere is rather unique, but definitely not for someone who is after good food or reasonable quite dinning environment. 95% of the patrons that night were Asian. Not sure how other people may find it, but being an Asian myself I am not impressed by the food here.

The food here is ok. Nothing special! This restaurant is for baby boomers especially on karaoke night. For all the gen y. Don't come here! I was so bored that i even wrote a review.

Not impressed. Went to Maxim Saigon last night with my girlfriend.<br/>Had a Tom Yum soup which was very, very salty and tasted a lot like MSG. As a main we've shared the Green Prawn Vermicelli which was OK and Water Spinach with preserved Bean Curd and Chilli which was overly salty as well.<br/>Maybe Yum Cha is better but I will not go back to push my luck again.

Basket Case. Previously known as 'Teapot Restaurant', the large eatery recently underwent a change of management and was re-born as Maxim Saigon. We visited for Sunday yum cha and enjoyed what we selected from the circling trolleys. All the typical dim sum & associated dishes are well represented and the prices are amongst the cheapest I've encountered.<br/><br/>There's little doubt that nearby Gold Leaf is more familiar to Springvale patrons when it comes to weekend yum cha, however the general standard of dishes at Maxim Saigon seems to be around the mark and undeniably ahead for value.
