Review Hot Star Large Fried Chicken - Springvale

Their serving size is getting bad to worst. Looking at the sweet potato fries, it's definitely not worth $5. It's not even quarter of the bag filled. Went back to ask if it's so little which he replied yes. Long waiting time. Small serving size. Expensive. Not returning anymore.

I came at around 5.30pm 27/5. The food was fine but the staff was so unfriendly and racist. They served the aussies face to face with a lot of patience and I waited patiently. Then when it came to my turn, he refused to take order from me and asked me to order from the machine, really rude. So disappointed since we are from the same country and he didn’t want to talk to me by our own language while the music is obviously from our country.

To be totally honest, food was way way too SALTY, even chips were too salty. Pop chicken was not crispy as i presumed it to be, but rather soggy in the coating texture. Need to do better, unless this is typical taiwanese street food style, then my apologies, but unfortunately i cant return to eat here as its dangerous for my blood pressure.

I really love the food here. Everything is just so amazing especially there flavours are just so delicious. However I did realize the proportions got so much smaller. Last time I spent five dollars on the king mushroom and only received five pieces. So basically it was a dollar per mushroom. Which was all cut up and was not a full piece of mushroom. If they upgraded the servings size a bit more it would be a bit better for the price Overall it’s a lovely place to eat at if you want to have a cheat day

Food was okay, but only one person at the shop to do the ordering and cooking. Waited almost 30 minutes for a piece of fried chicken. Asked for a straw, no straw. Asked for a fork or skewer, no fork or skewer. Asked for a napkin, no napkin. I love how literally you guys have exactly whats on the business name and nothing else.

Did not call out my number even though it had been done for 15 minutes. The staff's attitude was really unfriendly and unacceptable to all of the customers. Visited on the 12th of March, 2022

Size has been reduced but price is still the same. Before they came in a cup filled to the top but now they are put into a paper bag.

Great taste but not large serves. Not very fast

We got food the was destroyed by the staff as he attempted to stuff not 3 but 3 large item in a small bag which resulted in goods that were meant to be soggy wet and an absolute waste of our money absolutely disappointed as this was not the first by the same rude employee

went to springvale store today, order the chicken at 1.59 and staff said will be ready in 20mins. less than 5 mins they called my number and i am shocked for that quick. walked back to car and have a bite and notice the chicken is freezing cold. went back go store and this rude staff keep saying my order placed in at 1240 without looking at anything. <br/><br/>after checking he notice my number actually ordered later and giving excuse. i would imagine they have some abandoned order and chucked it to me. i hate it when he accused me not picking my order and embarrassing me in front of crowds. DO YOUR damn job properly before you think you can remember every order<br/><br/>they replaced me the chicken, over flavoured, not properly fried chicken. not happy with food quality rude staff. never come to this again<br/><br/>

Need to change the name to "1Star" or "HotTrash"<br/>Absolutely horrible, chicken was well under-cooked and pink throughout, coating was chewy and under-cooked, wife's piece had a bone in it and the mushrooms were absolutely foul, Sweet potato chips were pretty terrible as well. <br/>Disgusting and extremely overpriced.<br/>6 Things on the menu and this joint managed to ruin 3 of them. <br/>Only giving it a 1 because 0 isn't an option.

No batter on the crispy mushrooms I ordered. Went back to the store to ask about it. They remade it with again, no batter. Additionally, they used the wrong seasoning the second time they fried it. Mushroom came out soggy in oil because of the lack of batter. Crispy mushrooms are not the same as they were once before. Disappointed.

What a great little fast take away food shop. Friendly staff, quick service and tasty food. Located right on the community square on Buckingham St. there are plenty of places for you and your friends to sit. The store itself only has a double bench seat inside but this food is made to be taken away and eaten whilst exploring the variety of shops near by. The menus is limited (see photo) yet good value and cooked fresh.

3.5* <br/>Ordered the chilli flavoured hot star chicken. It wasnt salty enough, but the exterior was crispy which I enjoyed. The chicken, however, was a bit dry.

Literally the worst service I've experienced. You need to train staff on basic customer service skills like smiling and greeting customers when they walk in. I waited at the counter for at least 5 minutes, no acknowledgement, no eye contact or apologies for the wait. It doesn't hurt to say to a customer "I'll be with you shortly". Also, putting 1 employee on during peak lunch hour isn't a good idea. Your male employee (indian appearance) looked like he about to explode.

Hot Star always gives us a smile on our faces, the chicken is always so tender & moist.<br/><br/>The flavouring is amazing as are the sides.<br/><br/>Great Value for money.

This place is alright. The chicken is really big and it’s only flavoured by the salt so it can get pretty plain and it’s so big that it can get reallyyy sickening. I don’t go here often. I also really like how there’s usually a gongcha next to it

Came to this location for a quick snack. I purchased a hotstar chicken which was claimed to be (on their advertisement infront of their register) “8minutes to perfection”. It was not indeed 8minutes by almost 16 minutes before i got my chicken. I had to ask after 10minutes how long it would be only for the guy to place the chicken in when i asked about the timing... this was by far the worst service as i did not even receive an apology or even acknowledge for how slow they were. Only recommend if you wanna be late and have heaps of time to wait around.

Who doesn't like fried chicken? This massive and RIDICULOUSLY OVERSIZED piece of chicken was still juicy and had a good crunch to it. Flavouring chosen was chilli and it wasnt too spicy which was good. Good snack to share or eaten with hot rice would be great also!

Amazing taste, chicken was nice and tender but a little too much salt which overpowered the chicken. Overall amazing experience if your after a chicken the size of your head!!!<br/>Definitely worth a shot if your after something a little different.

Love this delicious fried chicken! The seasoning on the chicken is just on point ! <br/>I tried the deep fried cheese here and really loved it - same seasoning that is on the chicken with melted cheese in the middle

Got it the first time and it was bland so I decided to try it again and it was still bland and was too oily, it was almost leaking oil but good value for money though

Smells so good walking past. Had to stop by and get my fried chicken fix. Crispy and generous portion size. I got the chilli salt flavour and also sweet potato fries which were a bit too salty. Feel so dirty/guilty after eating it but it's good.

I have been on two occasions and both times were different. I love the crispy mushrooms! The first time it was perfect and the second time they were undercooked and oversalted. My sweet potato chips were oversalted too. Hard to swallow when it's that salty

Ordered the chicken pops and the squid. Both with salt and pepper seasoning. The chicken was crunchy. The squid not as crunchy which may have been due to the condensation by getting kept in the bag. I'd recommend eating them straight.

Ha went down here for lunch with a mate and they weren’t wrong with the size being as big as your head you gotta be hungry to finish this the chicken is juicy not overly seasoned but still very nice chicken and different to what I’m used to definitely be back !! After a fair few frothys I’d eat 2 #drunklife

Never miss this place whenever we go to springvale. Really cheap and delicious!! Place is just next to a milktea shop which is better! I always get the chicken salt flavouring

I'm a big fan of fried chicken and I'm not going to miss out on this Asian brand of fried chicken. Not only its big in size, really bigger than your head and it's crispy fresh and full of flavours

I absolutely love hot star chicken, it's like my guilty pleasure. Super large, the hotstar chicken is absolutely delicious if you're craving fried chicken, trumps KFC any day. Chilli flavour is the best and if you ask they usually allow you to have flavour on both sides. Crunchy, hot and juicy, it is always hard to resist going back for more.

Delicious crispy chicken at a very affordable price. Only $9 for a giant piece of chicken. I love that it’s not very oily and the flavours are very strong. Would definitely go back and try their other products 😊

My favourite items have always been sweet potato fries- the Cajun spices are blended with brown sugar and add sweetness to the already sweet potato. Wait times here were fine- 5 minutes or so. Out of the mains, I’m a fan of the massive chicken piece but here I ordered the squid pieces- it was a bit chewy and tough- I wouldn’t recommend it.

Hotstar chicken, where have you been all my life? Great tasting, crispy and not too oily gigantic sized piece of chicken seasoned with 4 possible choices of powder (we ordered it with chilli and chicken salt), cooked to order (the sign says it takes 8 minutes) and served in a convenient well made cardboard sleeve. Enough said!

Decent enough Taiwanese style fried chicken. Pretty much the same quality as the cbd stores. I like fried chicken. But hot star is never really my thing. The nearby sunny cafe also sells the same fried chicken along with other Taiwanese dishes. Though, hot star is more like a "fast" food type kind of food. You’d have to be crazy not to love the amazing value and quality at Hot Star! The signature Taiwanese fried chicken for $9 is absolutely massive and super delicious to boot. Love their packaging as well which makes it really easy to walk and eat, just like street food should be!! We also had the limited edition cheesy bites ($4.90) which had quite a heavy, salty, Macca’s cheese flavour that I didn’t really love, but Mr K did so each to their own!

Well Hot Star Large Fried Chicken in Springvale does just that!<br/><br/>For $8.50 you can grab yourself a giant piece of deep fried chicken and choose your desired seasoning. I got hot and spicy and to be honest, it wasn't that impressive. With the chicken being this big and shoved into a small blue box, there's a lot of condensation. Which means soggy chicken! Also, don't let the masterful photography fool you, but the chicken wasn't seasoned well, one side was heavily dusted with their hot and spicy powder, while the other wasn't (inconsistent). Another minor issue would be the bones in this deep fried bird, I don't really want to eat a giant chicken nugget and have to spit bones out.<br/><br/>If you love Quantity over Quality, by all means go ahead and try it out! For $8.50 you really do get a lot of chicken!

Love love love hotstar chicken!! There is nothing like this crispy, juicy, spicy ( if you chose spicy seasoning) piece of chicken. The batter. Yup. Wow. Not oily at all, so not oily you wonder if it’s even deep fried! Deep fried mushrooms aswell. Yassssss. It’s just a great spot to get some snack food for on the go. Once you’ve tried this, you’ll be craving it.

Amazing chicken bites with a crisp, crunchy batter with a few seasoning choices lightly dusted on the chicken. The place itself is small and have an oily scent lingering inside. Overall, takes about 15 min to cook the chicken.

I love the fried chicken here - it’s huge! It’s also well-seasoned, tasty, crispy on the outside yet tender and juicy on the inside. It is a little messy to eat though because they don’t cut it up for you.

Finally Hot Star has arrived to Springvale! Yep, right next to another Gong Cha, a pairing made in heaven. I got a salt and pepper Hot Star chicken, amazingly juicy and the batter they use gives it a nice bubbly crunch. They are freshly fried to order.<br/><br/>Because it's still relatively new it's still working out some minor glitches. They currently only take cash only and they are missing the most popular flavour, chicken salt. The amount of times I heard people request for it was pretty much everyone, now I'm intrigued! I threw a spanner in the works when they gave me chilli seasoning instead of salt and pepper, hope they didn't throw away that chicken as it was perfectly edible.<br/><br/>One of my favourite chains going around, who needs friends when you've got fried chicken?
