I had chicken curry special fried rice tonight. Loved it lady’s were very nice
Only place I trust to eat great food and lovely people
Have never had a bad meal there. Spiced beef soup is wonderful
Bun bo hue (spicy beef noodles) is one of my favourite Vietnamese dishes and my favourite in Melbourne has always been dong ba in footscray. I’ve recently discovered they have another store in St. Albans. I’m not certain it’s the same franchise however the taste is very similar and the name is the same so one can only assume. I love this BBH for its strong lemongrass and chilli flavour and it has a pungent aftertaste. The noodles are served with pork and beef slices, Vietnamese ham, pig blood jelly and onion. Lettuce, cabbage and bean sprouts is also served on the side. Its a perfect meal in cold weather as it’s warm and hearty. We also ordered the fried flounder which was really crispy and well seasoned. I highly recommend for good bun bo hue.
Located on the other side of where we normally go for food, this place is actually pretty good. We had diced beef and grilled chicken on rice and they were both very good. It came in decent portion as well. Too bad that we didn't really enjoy the chilli and the side soup was just average. We will come back again to try different dishes.
Best special combo beef pho Ive had in a long time. It has a good amount of meat which are of a good variety of cuts. I know it doesnt usually come with it but I always wish it comes with some raw beef too.
Dong Ba 2 is surely the hidden gem of stalbans restaurants! When you think of this area and Vietnamese cuisine you think Quang Vinh and the others near that vicinity, however travel just a little further, up were KFC used to be (veterans will remember) and across the Woolworths, and you will find a delightful surprise called Dong Ba 2. Apparently specialising in Bun Bo Hue which sadly Emily and I do not necessarily prioritise, we went in and were surprised with just how good the service is. Having been to a myriad of similar restaurants, you expect service as not being a priority due to the language and cultural differences however Dong Ba 2 is different- you are welcomed, and spoken to in fluent English or Vietnamese, whichever you want! Staff are friendly and definitely create a happy eating atmosphere.
Today we ordered the chicken ribs on tomato rice and my favourite, broken rice special. Let me just start by saying this is my favourite broken rice special (Com Tam big suon). The first bite of the pork made sure of this immediately. Juicy, soft and tender, with flavours oozing throughout. Most porks I have in this dish are dry and tough however this was cooked perfectly. Matched with the best chicken soup to date, fish sauce, egg, and patay (could have been a bit more soft) and you have a beautiful dish. Emily's chicken ribs were also notably better than most being tender, not too battered and succulent in flavour.
Definitely a hidden gem in St Albans and one that sets the standard high. If this was located amongst the popular area where Quang Vinh is, we have no doubts it would kill it. Highly recommended for all your Vietnamese cuisine needs!
Food: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 3/5
Value: 5/5
Overall: 4/5
A local favourite. The service is one of the best and incredibly friendly staff. There are many Asian restaurants in the area and nearby but this restaurant by far has the best quality of service. A winner everytime!
Had the crispy skin chicken here. The tomato rice is flavourful and chicken is nice. Serving isn't big but enough. Will try more dishes in the future.
I really love the tangy yet savoury bun bo hue, or spicy beef noodle soup with thick vermicelli. Perfect for a cold wintry day. Comfort food at its best!
We had bun bo hue and mi quang this morning. I was expecting this place cannot meet up with the beef noodle from Đong ba 1 in footscray. HOWEVER, I was wrong. The beef noodle was delicious, I had no complains about the broth, they also put more meat than dong ba 1. Service was fast and restaurant is clean.
Service is decent here my favourite dish is the fish sauce fried chicken wings. So delicious! Smoothies are nice here too will be back to try other dishes
Clean , crisp and fresh. The dinning room was spotless and mirrors polished. The kitchen was gleaming stainless steel , and I saw a lady changing her food prep gloves several times.
The Veg in the meals crisp and fresh.
Both the roast duck and the seafood stir fry were great .Good portion for the price
Ample seating and very inviting atmosphere , some of the other local places seemed intimidating.
I must start being more specific that i want my main after i have finished my entree not after the first mouthful.
Menu is easy to follow and pages long
Been here numerous times and won't stop coming in the near future. Good Vietnamese food at reasonable prices. Interior is one of the cleanest you will get from a Vietnamese restaurant. Bun bo hue is the signature dish here!
I first tried Dong Ba in Sydney (Cabramatta) so my expectations were high because I had an amazing experience in Sydney. This little St Albans hub of food did not disappoint. My beef soup was perfection, tasted exactly like what I had in Sydney. The fried fish is amazing, on a bed of mixed vegatable salad. The chicken wings has a beautiful sweet and sour taste and well cooked. My current favorite Vietnamese restaurant so far. Great service. My only reservation was access. The furniture and tables are squashed in together, for a Saturday lunch, it wasn't as packed as expected. But overall, flavor, food and price, Dong Ba 2 is a great follow up to Dong Ba 1 in Sydney.
Went here for dinner in a large group. The menu was quite big and there were a lot of dishes to choose from. I ordered a medium bowl of BBH which surprisingly came out within minutes after ordering. The food came out so quickly that the whole group was surprised. About the actual food, it tastes average. Nothing too special but nothing bad either. Would recommend if you're impatient and want your food super quickly!
This Vietnamese restaurant is located in St Albans and has a good selection of drinks and food that will certainly satisfy your Vietnamese cravings. We ordered our usual: Rice vermicelli with snails in sour crab soup - a very unique dish to try here. The snails are sliced thinly and the various ingredients you get in the noodles such as the sliced pork, crab meatball, pork blood cake and sliced pork sausage, all in the sourish soup make this a truly memorable dish and experience. Beef in betel leaf with rice vermicelli - a plate of various herbs, pickles and lettuce to wrap everything up is served together with a plate of flat rice vermicelli cakes and betel leaf beef. There is also the obligatory bowl of dipping sauce and it is perfect if a little messy to eat. Simply delicious. Service: Quality of food: Value for money: Type of venue: Vietnamese Worth a return visit? Yes. Address: 302 Main Road East, St Albans VIC 3021 Posted by Gastronomic Gems at 8:23 PM
Visited recently with my hubby & kids. We love Vietnamese food & must admit we are quite fussy. We usually visit Footscraybin a weekly basis as we have our favorites, however stumbled across this place by accident & thought we would give it a try as it was full of people. I must say, we were every impressed. The restaurant was very clean & adequately staffed, so very short wait on food. We presented a variety from soup, spring rolls, rice & mains. Everything was delicious and very large serves. You won't be disappointed if you love Vietnanese food. Definately will be back
This is all you need to know about this resturant western people, this shop make awesome Bun bo hue (spicy beef soup) it is its specialty don't get anything else it is the best bun bo hue in St. Albans. Authentic Bun Ba Hue. Broth, meat and flavour are all spot on. Enough meat and a variety of chilli and condiments. Filling, tasty and well worthy
