Review Quang Vinh Restaurant - St Albans

Leena H
Used to be much better service & food before covid time and more mature experienced staff. Now they are all over everywhere. I can see 2 out of 5 inefficient front staff running the full house with Takeaway, Restaurant & Uber orders, drink bar and cashier. 2 efficient young girls were running non stopšŸ˜² Soup noodles, asian donuts and sauce of Pipis were beautiful but pipis were sandy. Chef was keeping up the great workšŸ‘šŸ˜ƒ I saw all takeaway orders were ready at the cashier. If the front staff do a bit of organising and one staff prioritised to hand out takeaways first, I'm sure the cancellation Uber orders on the screen will be reducedšŸ˜‰

Busy, popular place (relatively adequate number of waiters/waitresses and reasonable wait time). Good food

Stopped coming here 5+ years ago because the food quality went downhill. Came back today and did not mind the food. It still lacks the quality it had back then. Food is ok.
Karen Chen
First time here with a big group. The staff were very accomodating as we also had a few small young children, we took up 5 big tables tonight. Plenty of space and high chairs. Food came in a reasonable time and was nicely portioned. It was very flavoursome too. Staff were polite too.

They had good taste when I visited last year. The meat of quail is so soft inside while crispy outside, so worth the wait for it (ordered first and came last) the pork ribs also well done and well priced, I wished I live close... Actually when dining in, we met a couple with their baby, they used to live near and then drove like 1 hour just to come to this restaurant, that's how good they are ?!!

At this restaurant do not expect customer service it's more like they are doing you a favour. There was possibly 2 tables of customers yet it took 35minutes for a take away conge if you ask about your order it seems to bother them, if you order here do not expect food in a timely manner. Sweet and sour fish clay pot is great the conge is flavoursome. If you like this review hit šŸ‘and share.

All other restaurants wouldn't seat us for a meal at 9pm (closing at 9:30) but this lovely place served us. And it was probably the best pho we've had in Melbourne! Thank you!
Foodie Destination
Consistently good, food didn't take long to come out and staff wasn't rude. Good place for a quick lunch with friends and family. Had great coffee.

It a gem. Its outstanding. Wow a hidden treasure so far away from Templestowe where I live yet its worth the crazy drive. The spicy quail or flounder is highly recommended. The pork belly jelly fish prawn salad is the best i have tasted. Love the salted fish fried rice the Vietnamese spring roll please get some nd yhe dmoky fried rice noodle with beef and dark soya. The clam xo...

Fabulous food, every dish we ordered as a group of 6 people, was delicious and authentic... loved the salt and pepper squid, loved all of it and can highly recommend Quang Vinh Restaurant. Will be eating there again!!

We have been coming here for quite a while and every time the food is awesome very happy best salt and pepper chichen ribs prawn and pork and jelly fish coleslaw is awesome oysters are great and can't go past the Vietnamese donuts with the pipies finish off with the Vietnamese white coffee this place is always consistent ļæ½ļæ½

Ordered the salt and pepper calamari there was the biggest blackest curliest hair in the food, when we complained they didnā€™t seem surprised

I was here with a group for a birthday dinner. First time trying Vietnamese and I am happy to say I loved it! We had about 10 people so just ordered all different meals and everything was delicious! Calamari, and lemon chicken! Yum! Service took a little long, trying to ask for water a couple of times and had to keep reminding them. The look of the store was a little off putting to be honest but would definitely recommend and go back again!

My whole family had food poisoning! It was from the steamed oysters which had a bad smell and under cooked! We all had stomach aches and diarrhea all night till morning. It was bad, me and my auntie kept on feeling like vomiting but can't. Also Bad, bad customer service, they just ignore you. They only had 1 girl which was good and polite, the rest was male waiters and they need to go and do a proper course on customer! I will never go back there ever again! Very disappointed cause we spent a couple hundred dollars to get food poisoning!

Food served very fast & delicious. Recommend hį»§ tiįŗæu mƬ (chicken noodle soup), gį»i gĆ (farm chicken coleslaw & canh chua cĆ” kho to (fish sour soup).

Rating: 3.5
Food: 3.5
Value: 4
Service: 3.5
Ambience: 3

A really enjoyable experience at this popular restaurant selling a elaborate menu of Vietnamese cuisine. One of the family favourites if you are heading to this main street. Management, however, changed, and has been downhill, although food still tastes better than average. Servings are a lot smaller than when I used to visit, and lacks a bit of flavour compared to in the past. Staff are definitely always quick to serve you, but food can take a while, having to make me skull my food before my work break ends. I ordered the rice noodle beef stir fry had the perfect balance of flavour. The saltiness and richness of the sticky sauce held the dish together in harmony.

From my experience, the soup dishes here are not very presentable and lack meat/seafood portions compared to the other restaurants along this street, making my money not as worth.

This restaurant still ticks all the boxes as a worthy Vietnamese restaurant, which have queues for over an hour during dinner times, and is therefore definitely worth trying!
My favourite spot in St Albans and they are popular amongst the locals here.

We would usually order our own pho and a few dishes to share. The salt and pepper chicken ribs is popular here. There is such a good range on the menu

The service is efficient and i highly recommend this place
Vi Tran
Get the salt and pepper tofu and chicken ribs! Great Vietnamese food
Superhoop
Really disappointing take away serve of seafood char kway teow. Whilst the noodles were tasty there was 1 prawn, 2 small bits of white fish and three small pieces of squid. Not value for $.
Wonā€™t be back!
Debby
This restaurant deceptively have many seats including the back room. The pho is top quality although not as good as the other pho restaurant across the street. The dry noodle is decent too but the star for us is the fried Spring roll. Fragrant, crispy and tasty.
Rachel
We thought we would try this place, but never again. It took a long time to place an order, they didn't even have enough menus! Once we ordered, then came the 1 hour long wait for the first few pho's to arrive. We had ordered a special beef pho, which they forgot to add the beef balls... And the typical rare beef pho which came with luke warm soup (no way this soup was going to cook the beef). We had to then take up the challenge again to flag down a waiter, to which we were told "wait, I'm tired", worst service ever! So after waiting an hour, we had to return some of the food and play the waiting game once again. In total we spent about 2+ hours in this restaurant and only 15mins was spent eating.

Tasty authentic Vietnamese food. I must say the food is amazing, you can go elsewhere and pay more but, you will not get the same quality.

Great food, good service! Yum Yum!

Boy oh boy. This is my OG Vietnamese and family restuarant. I have been eating here for a very long time. They are always busy and customers are in and out of the store. As soon as you enter you are told whether you need to wait or you have a seat. You can't go wrong with chicken pho or their Salt and pepper chicken ribs. There is a surcharge on card so bring some cash. The efficiency of the kitchen and staff is astounding. Meals are brought out ASAP and tables are cleared just as fast. Good luck getting a table on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
Adam
Best Vietnamese Restaurant in Melbourne. QUALITY OF FOOD! Always busy so get there a bit earlier to find seats. QUICK service and yes, sometimes you need to double check with the services on orders and asking for water.
Withaknifeandfork
We loved šŸ˜
This is one of our favourite local Vietnamese eateries. They do a range of foods from pho, bbh to rice dishes also. Our all time favourite is the xo clams with Chinese donuts! They are a must try! The salt and pepper chicken ribs are also delicious!

We disliked šŸ˜–
It is extremely difficult to find parking around here. Try some of the back streets if you are around the area
Eat Good Melbourne
There are many restaurants along Alfrieda st to choose from and many of them serving up similar if not the same dishes. Quang Vinh however, is always busy and serves up a great cheap feed. We ordered some dishes to share including sweet corn chicken soup, xo pipies, salt and pepper tofu, fried calamari, chicken ribs with salted egg yolk, stir fried beef and garlic water spinach. The tofu was super crispy and well seasoned unlike some places where itā€™s bland or just tastes salty. I love salted egg anything and these ribs were delicious. The beef was tender and not overly ā€œsodaā€ textures. Overall a great feed.
Jasmine
Quang Vinh has an unreal amount of space. From taking over almost two stores, to an upstairs area, there's a plethora of space. Just walk in an try your luck!

Ordered:
šŸ„– Cha Gio Tom (6 pcs): Prawn Spring Rolls ($9.00)
šŸ¦€ Cua Bien Xao Mi: Stir Fried mud crab with noodles ($market price)
+ šŸœ Vat Mi: Serve of noodles ($4.00 per serve)

Review:
Prawn Spring Rolls were amazing. Flakey in your mouth with just enough flavour, wrapping the sausage roll in a cradle of lettuce and herbs, into the dipping sauce to get an unforgettable light sensation in your mouth. Even though the sausage roll is fried, there's a certain soft touch that leaves you wanting the next sausage roll ASAP.Ā

The Stir Fried Mud Crab with nodoles was everything my friends and I wanted and more. We were being boujee that day - so we decided to order what was typically a meal reserved at weddings. Stir Fried Mud Crab creates a sense of celebratory nostalgia that make me smile... especially in the mouth watering XO sauce. Slightly spicy, it gives you that kick in the throat.Ā
Although it made sense to go for 4 servings of noodles for the 4 of us (2 girls, 2 guys), I reckon we would've been fine with 3 servings instead. There was a bit too much noodle left over in the end.Ā

Service was decent. Although difficult to grab their full attention (you'll have to be quick on your feet!), my vietnamese was decent enough to help get the difficult order of stir fried mud crab across.

This is a decent Chinese Vietnamese restaurant. Salt & Pepper chicken ribs is a finger-lickingly tasty dish. I also like their garlic soy eye fillet. But the best, for me, is the Spondias Juice (sweet, sour and salty drink). This restaurant makes for an easy casual dining option.
Potatolover
Have heard great things about Quang vinh so one Saturday night we finally decided to try it.
The sliced beef pho was great and the Chinese broccoli with garlic was a hit!
Would definitely go back

WAS my local to go to for a lunch or dinner fix up. Good food, no doubt. But my most recent visit made me come here to make a comment.

Feeling very cheated with my most recent visit. Had friends over from east side of Melbourne and wanted to show them a good place to eat. They had a no split bill sign. That's fine but at least give a receipt with the break down for us to sort it out later. They have it all written on note pad paper with no prices written next to them. The total didn't seem right but it was busy and I didn't want to hold the line up and he had a calculator and i didn't. Then when it came to working out the breakdown at home using the menu here, found out I was cheated off over $30! Anyone coming here should really add up your dinner before you call the waiter to order.

Lost a local supporter and left a very sour taste in 6 east Melbournians.
Aaron87lee
This was an experience. From my favourite Vietnamese place in Auckland to the local St Albans Vietnamese in Melbourne and it was a wow for me.
The Pho was amazing!! The noodles were so soft but also dense loved every bite, the beef so good (thanks to the fat on the beef too) and the broth was next level.
That was paired well with the Salt and Pepper chicken, chicken was so moist, batter so crispy, full of flavour I have not had a better salt and pepper chicken till I tried this just so good, thinking about it makes me hungry and craving more.
Sour and sour pork was good as well just the typical sweet and sour but still a great dish. Overall a great experience. Iā€™ll be back for sure.
Josephine P
My sister brought us here for dinner on our first night in Australia and the experience was good. Food tasted great. Serving sizes were big too. The service was just fine but it was okay.
Micheos
food is good but wait staff huddle up and just chat. probably the worst customer service. sat down for 5 mins while staff watched tv before someone decided to come and give us menus.
Split The Bill
This place is crazy busy. My cousin and I ordered the beef and tomato rice and the vegies with noodles to share.

The portions areĀ large and full of flavour too I can tell why it is a crowd favourite.

Went to this restaurant with my family was late, service was lovely considering it was close to closing time ā€˜..food was delicious so weā€™ve tried again ...with Uber eats food was delivered hot and just as good as when we dined there!
I highly recommend definitely one of our faves šŸ˜Š

I went here the other day for a Vietnamese dish, the lot broken rice. The place felt cold the moment I walk in. The staff was unwelcoming, they just walk up and drop the menu and left. When the food came they just drop the food and left. Not a single word came out. If the broken rice wasnā€™t any good Iā€™d give this place a 1 star already.
Poor service!!!
Esther Lee
Poor service (forgetful and unapologetic) both times I have visited. The lady who served us the second time I was there was so rude - I don't think I could ever come back again. Oh and I was overcharged! No wonder she was hesitant on printing out the receipt ;) how marvellous.
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
šŸ˜±Lizzieā€™s first impression: this place has got to be my favourite local Thai restaurant. The food is so tasty and the staff are very friendly.

šŸ©Lizzie enjoyed: love the fried chicken ribs here. Every plate is made consistently well and Iā€™ve never been disappointed. I also love the morning glory veggie dish. The com tam which is the broken rice dish has generous servings and tastes delicious - the pork chop is cooked tenderly and very juicy.

šŸ…Lizzie did not enjoy: the staff sometimes donā€™t speak much English so make sure you just point at the menu if youā€™re stuck.

šŸ„‡Lizzie rates overall: the best Chinese viet restaurant In the west side and I highly recommend for those who are around the area.

By far Iā€™d have to say this place is one of the worst when it comes to service, I called 3 times to make a booking for a group of people, the first time the lady kept asking me what I wanted to take away when I said ā€˜can I make a reservation for dinnerā€™ then she said wait a second, made me wait a few minutes then hung up. I called again and when I asked her again she hung up, the third time a man picked up and again couldnā€™t understand that I wanted to make a reservation.
Decided to just go there without a booking for the group.
When we got there they gave us 2 menus for the 6 of us. When we asked for more menus the waitress said no, the restaurant was one quarter full so I was surprised she said no.
We got one meal really late, to the point that everyone else had already finished eating.
Most people had finished eating before we got our drinks.. some were just cans of soft drink. I noticed the drinks were on the bench for quite some time while the lazy waiter just picked up the orders with just one or two drinks first.
When the waiter gave us the drinks he just put them all in one spot and left without saying a single word.
The food is nice here but the service is absolutely appalling, for that I would not return here to eat.
Jay The Foodie
Best Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne! Me and my friends come here all the time when we are craving Asian food. Always get the salt and pepper ribs, they are to die for!
Ken Leung
Been here a few times, and this is your local family restaurant looking at the people coming here.

Typical Vietnamese speaking staff so English can be some issue but food quality is good and portion size is good. But didn't like the chicken coleslaw.

Overall I give them 4
Foodielover
Order the salt and pepper chicken tomato rice and seafood egg noodle. Chicken is too salty for me but it is nice and crispy. I didn't like the egg noodle it quite plain. It's rather long waiting time. Overall 3.5
The Honest Glutton
Really fast service. The banh cang pork and beef was really tasty and had heaps of meat in it. Needed to add a little chilli for that extra kick. Their com tam is great too with the pork. Rice paper rolls were decent, could use a bit more meat.
Leena
I was going to visit next door but didn't seem much people for better Zomato scores than here.

I've been this place many times and taste hasn't been changed and one of my favourite delicious Vietnamese restaurant.

It used to be more positive friendly customer service and only one side dining area.
Dining was huge and combined 2 shops now.

Oyster with ginger was so yummy.
Special broken rice is always nice.
I also took chicken with tomato rice for takeaway.
YesNoMelbourne
Yes/no? Yes for locals

This place was packed and looks like a favourite.
Maybe Iā€™m not the best person to write a review about Vietnamese food cause Iā€™m not really a fan.

I got the tomato rice and salt and pepper ribs which was only $12!
Super cheap and a great serve.
The salt and pepper ribs were tender and had a nice coating. The tomato rice didnā€™t taste anything like tomato but nonetheless was a nice base for the chicken.
The flavours overall were nice but nothing I would travel all the way down for.
Suzysays
Food is just soo good here. Hu tieu especially . Service is so so but who cares when the food is relative cheap and delicious! It gets packed at lunch and dinner time. Itā€™s def a reliable place to go

Went back again this time for a dinner sharing feast rather than our own dish! It was excellent and value for money!
AlwaysHungryForMore
QV was one of the the first restaurants to introduce me to Vietnamese cuisine. Five years on, the quality of food remains unchanged and the service remains great as always. Despite the large menu, we always find ourselves ordering our favourites: salt and pepper chicken on tomato rice and crispy combination egg noodles.

Follow us on Instagram: @alwayshungryformore
The Food Book
Generally find this place average but pretty good for a damily dinner. Would definitely come back for their fried tofu though, soft like the japanese ones coated with a light crispy batter
Rice Ball
One of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants in the west for sure! It can get quite busy here on weekends but thereā€™s plenty of space and the wait isnā€™t long whether itā€™s dine in or take away. The staff and fast and really nice.
Some dishes you must try from here are:
- Com tam / special broken rice
- Com nga chien rang mui / salt and pepper chicken ribs deep fried with rice and soup
- Pho xao / flat rice noodles stir fried in dark soy sauce and beef
- Cha gio tom / prawn spring rolls
- nghieu xao xo / pipis in xo sauce with Chinese donuts
- hu tieu nam vang dried or in soup
- bun bo hue
Cindy
I still remeber the first time I ate there, it was so Yum! And after few months, it's still so good. Staffs are nice too. Great Value for money. Perfect for family or simple dates.
Leslie Yapi
Place is quite busy

No 3. Pork and prawn rice paper roll
No 31. Rice/egg noodle soup witht wontons and pork n prawns - my favourite, pork based soup, pork larb included
No 43. Special beef noodle soup - you can also ask for egg noodle
No 48. Slice beef and tendon noodle soup - best kind of noodle out of the 3 we ordered
Michelle Gun
The food was really good and me and my friends family really enjoyed the food but I would have rated them higher if it wasn't for the bad customer service. First we were sat down on a table and seems to have been forgotten about until we asked for tea and cups. When we were ready to, this lady came up to us and because it was our first time at the place, we were unsure of some of their menu items. Everytime we'd ask about a food item, she'd roll her eyes very noticeably and answer the question as if she was annoyed and I was pretty sure we were being polite to her. Hope this improves but I won't be recommending this place.
FOOD TRIP
Great Vietnamese restaurant in St Albans! Extensive menu options at reasonable prices. Love the pho here because the broth is always delicious! Cheap three colour drinks too!
Jhen
Just ate here and im still frustrated. The waiter ignored my table despite having my hand all the way up for several minutes. When food arrived it had already been over an hour only to find out the utensils were unclean, the food tastes distinctly of msg, and the meat over all was very tough and very salty. The overall experience deserves no stars.
Rachael
One of the more authentic experiences, the menu was very broad and covered a lot of core ingredients. There was lack of sauces on the table available. The vermicelli noodle dish with pork was not as nice as I would have liked, there was an absence of any major key flavours. The beef rice comprised of tender and juicy cubes with a nice sauce covering. Pretty good for the price but I wouldnā€™t come out this way again.
Grape Life
Good no fuss, convenient place for some viet food! This place does get busy at night, with a 5-10 min wait for a table. Good pho and crunchy spring rolls. What more can you ask for?
Hungry Hieu
We went here for a family dinner. The set up was more like a dine then leave atmosphere but it wasn't an issue as we were after good value food. There was plenty of seating to accomdate our group of 9. Service was quick as food didn't take long to arrive given the restaurant was almost full. The staff needed to be asked to remove dirty plates and bowls off the tables and it was much faster for us grab extra tissues and cutlery from a nearby table than chasing down someone.

As for food, servings was big for the price. There are lots of options to choose with the menu grouped by the types of mains they offer. Most of the food was flavourful especially the quang vinh special quail. The quail was crispy, spicy, and packed with flavors. The seafood claypot was a bit of a let down as there was too much oyster sauce which made the taste a bit overbearing.
ThatGirlAlice
We come here all the time. Always consistently good food at such a reasonable price. Recently we ordered a vegetarian fried rice (no egg) and it was well seasoned, lots of tofu bits. Star of the show is always the salt and pepper eggplant. Wonton soup had at least 5 wontons and the egg noodle soups are yum. Family nearby were doing a hotpot which looked great. Always so busy but they'll always find you a table.
Sophie
Great Vietnamese food!
Pho is generously served, in terms of both noodles and meat.

Pork springs rolls are a must!
Service isnā€™t the super attentive though for the prices, the speed they get youā€™re food out itā€™s understandable you can be in and out in 15 mins is wanted to be.

Itā€™s definitely my go to Vietnamese when Iā€™m in the area.
Kevin & Emily
Ah Quang Vinh. The ultimate Caucasian Vietnamese experience where Caucasian males boast to their friends of how they know genuine and authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Here you will see many entrees of spring rolls, money bags, rice paper rolls and more! Haha with jokes aside Quang Vinh is genuinely a very authentic Vietnamese cuisine experience. Having tasted the absolute best in the heart of Vietnam in areas such as Tra Vinh, Ho chi Minh and Hanoi, I can say that the food here always tastes great, fresh and satisfying.

Ordering my special broken rice, and Emily ordering the tomato rice with marinated diced beef, we also opted for a satay chicken to spice up our buds. And boy did it do that. The Com Tam (special broken rice) is one of the best in Melbourne, with generous servings and even chicken soup (a staple and indication of authenticity). The diced beef was very juicy and tasted so fresh. The satay chicken perhaps was the biggest surprise tasting very very rich and delicious. The peanut sauce complimented the meat well and lead to a very satisfying meal overall.

Service and ambience are expected for an Asian restaurant albeit they did ensure our meal was served promptly. You WILL receive your meal quickly. Cheap meals for great taste is huge value as is all in St Albans. Highly recommend this restaurant for all your Vietnamese needs!

Food: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Ambience: 3/5
Value: 5/5

Overall: 4/5
Haint2000
My friend and I came here for a dinner around 8pm. I already had my dinner at home so I ordered a drink. My friend ordered ā€˜Bun chao tomā€™ and the waitress didnā€™t bring the sauce at all. Surprisingly, we had to wave our hands for a while to get the sauce even the restaurant is not so busy. And this is the best part: they forgot my drink! And I still saw them bring drinks to other people. Well, I have been here for a number of times and they were pretty okay, thatā€™s why I came back. However, this time is a disaster. Not only my friends dish wasnā€™t tasty (come on, I can even make a better one at home!), also when I checked out, they wanted me to pay for a drink that never came. Of course, I explained what happened and only paid for my friendā€™s dish. However, I didnā€™t hear anything like ā€œSorryā€ or things like that from them!!! Ok fine, I will never come back.

This one is one of my fave Vietnamese resto in St Albans area. Resto always pack and busy. Variety of foods menu are good. I have been eat here so many times and their foods always consistent which is good.

Quang Vinh is my home away from home and I'm not even Vietnamese. I wrote a rap about the salt & pepper chicken ribs and ca phe sua da at QV, imma bout ta drop tha hottest mixtape of 2k17 ya feel
Gaery
Simple place towards the end of the main shopping district in St Albans which serves good quality food.

The staple dish served here is the pho which uses a full-flavoured beef stock. Served with well cooked beef and chicken (what I ordered personally) it was superbly tasty - if only they gave at least close to an equal proportion of both.

Other dishes such as the bun bo, tomato rice with crispy chicken and egg noodle with crispy chicken were also suitably respectable. In terms of food, this place is stellar if you ever feel the urge (not much else you would go to St Albans for though).

The takeaways for this place spread outwards from the food. Unfortunately, if you happen to end up here on a bad day you may find the feel is particularly terrible - this happens often and the restaurant will be very much improved if it had a better average ambience.

However, for what the place is right now, it is definitely not bad.

Scrumptious GG
Pretty packed place on Sunday's lunch time, but we managed to get place to sit.
Greeted by one of the staff, we quickly ordered BBH, crispy chicken with tomato rice, pho with beef & chicken and egg noodle with crispy chicken.
After waited about 10mins, everything came to our table at once.
All looked beautiful and tasted great, generous portion, and the soup was so delicious.
Will definitely come back again to try their other menu.
Service was okay.
Danny Nguyen
Pretty much my go to Viet restaurant whenever I'm in the area. Their com tam is the best around and their bun bo hue is good as well. Service is fast and consistent.
Clarinna
My friend lives nearby so she is a regular at this place and she always bring us here whenever we are around. I remembered the pho was good but this time we ordered main dishes to share. Everything we ordered was really good, the best salted egg chicken I have had in Melbourne so far. It was so similar to what I had in Singapore or Indonesia. The salt and pepper tofu was really yummy too, they used japanese egg tofu so its really silky and soft. The lemongrass beef was tender and full of flavour too. The tomato rice was more of a fried rice but its good so we didnt have any complain. Definitely give this place a visit if you are around the area or if you are craving for some Salted Egg Chicken. The place is huge and they have upstair seatings too, they had a lot of staff but for some reason they were all seem so busy that we had to ask for water 3 times. But for what's worth, we will definitely come back.
Dustin
My favourite dishes would be their sweet and spicy pork. Their other dishes were quite good too. Dishes came out hot and their service was fast even though the place was packed. Might be a little noisy during peak hours. Would recommend.
Claudia L
Good old trusty Quang Vinh. In short, great food at decent prices but falls short on service. Most staff don't speak English properly so ordering can also be a struggle.
Ct.eats
I go to this place all the time, I'm a usual here. They serve up a variety of traditional Vietnamese dishes, my faves are the fried rice, canh chua ( which is a hotpot) and fried fish. The service here is debatable, but judging from their price it's worth it.

In comparison with Thuan Phat which is very close by: the restaurant's menu similar but thuan phat serves up roasted duck and crispy pork belly. I find the seafood dishes and service at Than Phat is much more better
Kitakai
what I love about QV is their versatile menu. if I feel like having Vietnamese food but could not decide what in particular, I know I could head to QV as they have pretty much every Vietnamese dish you could think of. this versatility does not compromise in quality, they offer this wide range and each dish is sure to satisfy you in taste and quality.
The Lovely Fox
Quanh vinh is a family favourite, we have been going here for over 5 years and though some dishes have changed we have always got value for our money. Service is good though it can get very busy, the food seems authentic and flavourful. Value for money, good service, well portioned meals, this is a place you'd visit if you'd like dinner out without paying big bucks.

A 3 out of 5 for overall.
Edel
A very busy restaurant that can always accommodate for more customers. Great food and many great options on the menu. Price is very reasonable and always a good place to eat it and come back to.
Indri
The food just nice taste. They used too much msg tho i have no problem it all. Prices are $ and big restaurant. Pho taste better when is winter time. They have good taste of fried garlic Calamari ā¤ļø

I would give it a 0 rating if I could for this restaurant. If you decide to eat at this restaurant, you may run the risk of ingesting a piece of plastic, or maybe even anything that could choke you. And not even receive an apology from the owner. The service from the owner and his male employee was terrible. I was with my husband and a friend. As seen on the photos, I order a dish with spring roll and vermicelli noodles which contained some foreign hard plastic. I was eating it when suddenly, I felt something stuck in my throat. I started coughing, gagging and choking until tears started rolling out of my eyes. Finally, I managed to gag it out of my throat but my throat was so sore. If this was the case of a child eating this dish, the child could have choked to death as this plastic was very hard. We reported it to the male waiter and showed him the piece of plastic. He then reported it to the owner but the owner looked at the plastic and without a second glance, the male waiter just tossed it in the trash. After that, we waited for a response from the owner; expecting an apology of some sort and compensation. We waited until my husband and my friend finished their food and the owner still had not taken any action in even replacing my dish. I did not even attempt to finish the rest of my food as I was afraid that maybe there was more plastic pieces in my dish. We asked the male waiter he had told the owner about the situation, as we thought that this response from the owner could not be it. Yet again, the owner took no initiative to even come and apologise. Now, even if the owner had not known English, a simple "sorry" could not have been hard to know considering he owns a restaurant. We sat down for a while, waiting for the owner to show respect to his customers and that he actually cared and felt terrible for what had happened. But, no. Nothing at all. So a waitress who brought us our food noticed that we were waiting around and she came and asked what was wrong. We told her the situation and yet again, she went to notify the owner. We then went to pay. They noticed that my husband was very annoyed about the owners disrespect and so they said that they we didn't need to pay for that ONE dish. It's not to say that we wanted anything for free, we expected a certain duty of care from the owner. When we were about to pay, we personally told the manager of the situation. His response was "I don't know, it's the delivery's problem". And that's that. Not even an apology at the very end. Only that it was not his fault but that it was plastic from the products he ordered and was delivered. Thereafter, we were so angry we paid the full price, including my dish that contained the plastic and they even accepted the money. Be warned, the cleanliness in the restaurants at St. Albans are very questionable. Even if the plastic was from one of the products that they ordered from another company, it does not mean they can just disregard any thing that appears in their food, they should at least take care in the preparation of their food. If you plan to eat at this restaurant and you end up choking, don't expect an apology or respect from the owner because you're not going to receive any. The restaurant is just open to make money and they don't care about their customers.

The best place to eat in St Albans! My boyfriend and I always go to this restaurant every week, as the food never disappoints us. Service is always spectacular and this is our go to restaurant for Asian food!
Lisa
Our favourite place for Vietnamese can't count the amount of times we have been here. Highly recommended the pho, salt and pepper chicken ribs and Pippi in xo sauce.

hands down, favourite restaurant in St. albans! it's a spacious restaurant with very friendly staff and the food is absolutely amazing! it's a nice place to have rice dishes especially.

First time at Quang Vinh. We love Vietnamese food and this place is top notch. Full packed place but food is quick and delicious. Servers are attentive enough on a very busy night.
FoodingAroundMelbourne
Food here is ok but service really brings the overall experience down. Menu is vast which automatically makes me think they are trying to appeal to a bigger quantity of people without having something they are really good at. I had the chicken pho which was ok once I added my own soy and chilli - we had to ask for some bean sprouts, mint and lime to be brought out, when this should happen automatically. Of the other dishes at the table; tomato rice with fried chicken, 2 vermicelli noodle dishes and some sort of chicken with noodles, all needed additional sauces (on the table) to make them have some flavour. Vietnamese iced coffee was good and strong as was the hot coffee.
Vegemite Girl
Hmmm... Yeh this is okay at a push. Waitstaff are disinterested and put meals were brought out without the additional condiments needed for pho and vermicelli. We ordered chicken pho, chicken tomato rice, prawn and beef vermicelli and chicken stir fry. Toilets are pretty gross.
Daveyboy
I had the goat hot pot. Pretty good but doesn't rival Hoa Binh in flavor. Broth is not appealing to sip on.

The serving was generous and would recommend to eat for 4 and not 3 like us (coma full) šŸ˜„

Ask a Vietnamese friend from the Western suburbs about where they go the most with their family.. and whaddya know? 'I go to QV with my family' and when I ask them where do they want to eat they'd say 'Anywhere but Vietnamese food'. Quang Vinh, is located near the end of the shops on St Alban's Alfrieda Street, a street that every Asian in the western suburbs of Melbourne should at least have heard of. Also known as 'QV' or 'the orange one', is a restaurant with a large variety of meals in their menu.
Walk through the door where the stairs are at the end of the store on the left and you're possibly queueing up for a table, depending on when you go of course. Then seated by a floor staff, with your usual set-up at an affordable Vietnamese restaurant. Tea cups, a thermal bottle with tea, and an area for cutlery you can choose and an arrange of sauces to be used.
The tables and chairs are fitted to maximise the use of the floor space in order to maximise capacity of patrons, which is good for them, and it's not too squishy to the point we'd have to touch others while sifting to get around.
I came here again recently for like the 5th or 6th time because if you go to St Albans, and you want Vietnamese food, this is the default place. You can't complain as they have many dishes to choose from, from rice, to noodles, to vermicelli and side dishes etc.
Anyways, I ordered the Banh Canh Tom Thit (Thick Rice Noodles in Soup with Pork Slices and Prawns). I usually order Banh Canh here because everytime I do it has a good amount of flavour and it is of a good portion for the price you pay. Always fills me up and satisfies me, have to admit that at busier times there are less seafood/meat in the dish in order to meet demands.
Service is very efficient and decent enough to not feel any resentment towards the floor staff and the cashier. Staff are all Vietnamese, can speak the language so great for those who lack English speaking skills and are Vietnamese.

TLDR: Overall, efficient service, ample space and room to walk around and sit comfortably, large variety of dishes to choose from that don't lack in flavour with good portion sizes, price is worth it for every dish (the ones I've had anyways), would recommend to anyone who wants to eat Vietnamese cuisine with no speciality dish in mind.

Hot & Sour Catfish Soup and Catfish Claypot was delicious!! The soup was perfection, and vegetables were fresh! I've had this numerous times and this is the first time they gave two large pieces of fish.Ā

The Crispy Egg Noodles Combination was alright today... it tasted a bit different. But despite that, they gave a really large serving today!Ā

Overall, my go-to restaurant when I'm craving Vietnamese cuisine!
Bec Brient
Pretty excellent place. Service is average but you can't deny the quality and tastiness of the food. Always fairly busy and probably the best St. Albans has to offer.
Love the broken rice pork chop.
Don Djoe
Broken rice with pork chop and chinese sausage! One of the best combinations for broken rice, i think. Too bad the pork chop was too tiny. We also ordered pho with plenty of stuffs inside. Overall it was a good experience. The Vietnamese ice coffee was a tad to black thou, they need to put more condensed milk.

Have traveled all over Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi and always look forward to coming back to Melbourne to eat here .The Atmosphere is plain but the food is very tasty , the servings are very generous and the food is always served promptly.

Came to this place with my friends. Ordered the beef combination pho and really enjoyed it!! The soup is clear and refreshing, and most importantly I did not feel very thirsty after drinking the whole bowl of soup (this means less or no MSG is put in the soup). The beef slices are just right, not too raw or overcooked.
I ordered small ($11.50) and it was very filling. Definitely worth the price. šŸ‘Œ
Will be back if I ever return to St Albans. šŸ˜€
Amazing food!!! Only complaint is that they forgot one of our entrees and the waiting for a table, which I can justify because the food is so good! Other than that I have been here twice now and both times really yum full of flavour and definitely can't complain about good food. Definitely recommend xo oysters and salt and pepper pork spare rib

This is my go to place for a nice dinner or even lunch as its pretty affordable for the average person. Just $25 covered me and my mom. Its grown and becone extremely popular so it's hard to get a table and sometimes the service is slow but other than that it's a great viet resturant and the food is absolutely amazing. I'm pretry sure it's a $25 minimum on card and they do great takeaway as well.
Justine Jopio
Horrible service. We were left standing around for our table for 20 minutes even though we made reservation. We were made to wait another 45 minutes for our food to arrive.
Mitchell Sinna
Our family night out each week we love it twice a week with out fail

Are usual dinner menu consists of starting with prawn spring rolls for garlic quails then we finish off with a chicken and sliced beef pho, pork and prawn pho, and a chicken and veggie pho
Jamie Tupaea
All was going good until a little furry friend ran passed our table and greeted all the patrons around us!! Food was good in fact the restaurant was near packed, and tea even better!! Would I come back again??? Hmmm
HelenLa
Great food, taste really good.
The salted chicken ribs was well done. Service was ok.
We had the spring rolls to share and it was very satisfying.

Quang Vinh is so busy and popular that itā€™s seating capacity extends to the building next door, and another room in the back. The place is always bustling with diners which is what attracted me to it in the first place. There was another restaurant that I used to frequent for dinner, and it seemed to only ever had family members or friends dining in.

I'm pretty sure I've already reviewed this place. But it just has to be said again. This is one of my favourite restaurants I know. The good is ALWAYS consistently amazing. Great flavours. Super hot. And so so fresh. They are always busy but always efficient. The people who work there are always always friendly from owner to wait staff you always feel accomodated. Watching them get bigger and bigger over the years, buying up the shops around them to accomodate more customer is really gratifying and most importantly they haven't let service or quality slip at all, in fact it's been getting better and better . Doesn't matter where you are in Melbourne. Give these people a try. You won't be disappointed .

Quanh vinh has gone from strength to strength since it first opened many years ago. Figuratively and literally buying up next door and expanding upstairs. The reason they've been successive is that they make good food, full stop.
Their signature dish is the egg noodle and flat noodle combination which is still a star and will continue to the the prime reason I visit. The marriage of different noodles, thinly sliced pork, full sized prawn, peanuts, sweet chilli sauce, deep fried pork fat, lemon, etc is too die for. They make this dish very well. My only suggestion is they bring back the deep fried pork (like how they initially had when they first opened). That is the piece de resistance of hu tieu and not many restaurants offer this anymore. The dishes here are great, and you can't go wrong with anything here really - opting for the chicken or broken rice. The Vietnamese coffee I wouldn't order here anymore. Convenience and costs reasons they've fully premade and refrigerated it in a takeaway container.

Found my favourite tropical dessert/beverage. It's attractive to the eye and tastes absolutely amazing. The durian topping was fresh and the jellies complimented very well with the sweetness of the coconut milk. Their combination noodles were good.

We are regulars . Love the place. It's consistently St Albans best Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant. The place is alwAys busy for good reason be it Monday night or Saturday
Gordon.Ramsay
This place is hit and miss. Not a regular go to for me, but it has its good sides. I normally order the chicken ribs with fried rice. It is one of the busier restaurants in st albans. If you go here when its quiet, i am sure you will get a great meal. On the other hand when it gets busy the meals and service do fall below the standard it should uphold.
Cheryl Sanahon
Good food but bad service, my husband waited almost 40mins for take away food, guy came in after my husband but left after 5mins, my husband said he thinks they are friends with the restaurant owner or worker and they gave him our chicken order, me and my baby waited in the car, never going back again!
Dean
The place was very busy so we were seated upstairs, the staff were rude and the meals came out slow. We received the fried rice first with no bowls. Staff took ages to return and by the time we received sharing bowls the rice was cold. Each item arrived at different times with our entree second last. Our drinks came out last and the food was average. Is a shame because a few years ago the food and service here was awesome.
Sarah Tram
What has happened? Food quality gone right down, service is down right ridiculous and rude! Waited for 45mins after ordering and food never came out. Asked waiter about it and he simply just said we're busy and there's nothing we can do. Table across from us who came in 20 mins later and ordered got their meals before we decided it was enough. We left hungry! We will definitely not be returning!

Good honest Vietnamese/Asian food here - it's actually worth driving a few suburbs away for. Really nice pork chops on broken rice, salt and pepper calamari and sweet and sour pork. Good service and plenty of space to sit with friends. Service is fast out of the kitchen. So not too many negatives to find here, as long as you don't mind the odd suburban drunk peering at you through the windows...

This restaurant is amazing for what it is- casual, fast, delicious food. Don't go here expecting a quiet night out. The restaurant is bustling, your order is taken quickly and the food comes out very fast! It is delicious! Best Vietnamese spring rolls I've ever had, noodles are amazing, great pho and I love their selection of drinks! Yum!

Ive came here a couple of times. To be honest, consistency is a big factor. Some days service is horrid, however food quality is extremely great(restaurant quality). Other days if not almost, service is average and food is average. Best to avoid busy times. The rice dishes are rich and full of flavours, recommended. I don't recommend the pho anymore, just absolute trash.
Anna_Thornson
Have been here numerous times with family. It's a big restaurant with plenty of seating. The food here is consistently good and very good value. They have heaps of variety on the menu. We have had the banquet with crab noodles a few times and it's delicious! I love their speciality Vietnamese chicken salad. Fried chicken riblets also a standout. Delicious and value for money. Highly recommend!

If you want to be seated prepare to wait out the front of the shop until you've been addressed.
Food is pretty average. Steam rice undercooked.
Ordered beef with noodles & got handed seafood , when they realised it was not what i ordered they said sorry weve cooked the wrong thing, can you still eat it?
šŸ˜• haha i thought they have got to be kidding, for starters im allergic & if i wanted seafood i would have ordered it in the first place.
The scrappy parts of capsicums were also used in meals.
Not impressed for my first & only visit.

Vietnam with a side of Canton. Or was it vice versa.

So we visited St Albans with friends. A bustling shopping strip filled with predominantly Vietnamese restaurants, filled to almost overflowing on a Sunday evening. Take your pick and enjoy. We were taken by friends to QV. Busier than a one armed paper hanger. 90% of the guests were families, noisy, enjoying life and the good value of this place. No PhƵ this evening and the dishes we ate were more Cantonese inspired. The standouts were very good....Deep fried quail in a spicy coating. Salt and Pepper chicken ribs. A very spicy, almost mouth numbing prawn salad awash in birds eye chillies. The other dishes we ate were solid but not standouts.

Good value. BYO. Efficient staff though short on banter. Enjoyed for what it was. Solid cooking, inexpensive, family friendly. But I'd prefer Richmond for my Vietnamese.

It seems the trap with most restaurants that have meteoric rises to fame, that it is too easy to just rest on their laurels.

Unfortunately it seems to be the case here. At one point in time it was 'the' place to visit for good Vietnamese/Chinese cuisine in St Albans. But like with many giants of the industry, the higher you climb the harder you fall.

The food has become lackluster, the staff more callous and even bordering on incompetency, and the decor doesn't appear to have progressed in fashion since 1970.

Overall it is disappointing to see what this establishment has decayed into, we can only hope that something sparks that flame of passion that was once Quang Vinh.
Cafe Crawler
We visited this restaurant on the back of some very good recommendations from work colleagues. Along with the recommendations, we were advised to call ahead and book a table...I would highly recommend doing the same!

This place was packed, however, because we booked, we were rushed passed the long queue that was leading out onto the footpath and shown a table. On the table, you won't find serviettes, but instead a tissue box. This lead us to the understanding that some of the dishes here would be very spicy.Ā

The service was great and considering every table was full and take-away orders aplenty, we were given enough time to choose our meals without feeling as though we needed to hurry up.Ā

We ordered the lemon chicken, sizzling mongolian beef and the calamari, all of which were delicious. With the average price of these three delicious dishes around $16 each, the menu was a little pricier than most Chinese/ Vietnamese restaurants in the area. However, you could tell that the food was a cut above the rest.Ā

Quite often with Asian restaurants you will find yourself needing to drink a fair bit of water later in the evening to counteract the hidden salt and MSG that is used. This wasn't the case with Quang Vinh and we will certainly return.

was craving for some decent Vietnamese food and my sister took me here. Well i ordered dry egg noodle with pork and prawn (hį»§ tiįŗæu mƬ tĆ“m thį»‹t khĆ“). It was pretty good, one of the best in Melbourne so far, just the soup doesnt really go together, but well, dry noodle after all so its acceptable. My brother when for cĘ”m tįŗ„m đįŗ·c biį»‡t. It was average. My coconut kumquat drink was good!!!

Absolutely love the food here. It's really delicious and there's a lot of variety. But the problem is the waiting times. Even when it's not as busy, it still takes a while for the food to come. Service is good, there are times where the waiters are a bit problematic but overall a good experience.
