Review Claypots Seafood Bar - St Kilda

Great food and eclectic place. We should've chosen the back outdoors, though. The kids were excited about the elevated toy train. Staff was super kind and friendly to the kids. For me, as a parent, that was major.

Exceptional bugs with mussels, quirky atmosphere, mulled wine was very full of spice. We loved the garlic prawns. Didn’t love the clay pots funnily enough.

I used to love the place, it was cozy aesthetic with delicious food however, since lockdown Claypots hasn’t been living up to their reputation. On multiple occasions we’ve received overcooked seafood, where’s is burnt and rubbery. The flavours used to be expertly balanced but in recent times, they’re lacking seasoning and acidity. Ultimately for the price you pay, it’s just not worth it anymore

The seafood dishes are amazingly fresh, delicious. The menu is very different and interesting! The staff are friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable.Wonderful and friendly atmosphere. The live jazz is also fantastic! Our favourite seafood restaurant in Melbourne!😋🤗❤😊

This restaurant is really unique. It has all the fresh fish and seafood on display to choose from, and you can always pick exactly which piece you want. The menu is very interesting; both for food and wine. Cosy atmosphere and very friendly and attentive staff. A must to visit!

The food was really delicious, cooked with love and care by a chef with 20+ years experience cooking fish and seafood for Claypots. The waitress was also really friendly. A great restaurant to go to to enter a new world and forget the busyness outside.

We can’t stop thinking and talking about the amazing time we had at Clay Pots, 4 weeks ago. Arriving unannounced we enjoyed a drink or 2 in the very cool adjacent bar, admiring the endless array of objects d’art and quirky curios nestled into every nook and cranny. There are mechanised trams running through the roof, cable cars swooping above your head..it really is a good start to the night as you head will certainly be swimming once you have dined next door! We shortly gained our table and placed ourselves in the hands of the highly acclaimed head chef, Neelam. First up were some extremely good king prawns, and coming from Darwin, I know prawns and these were right up there. The wine started to flow and next up was a crustacean platter, mussels to die for, Spanner crab cooked perfectly, some of the best Bugs I’ve ever had and along with all of this we had to suck down some sweet blue swimmers to boot! I thought we may be done, but no..next up was the specialty Cajun spiced Flathead, if you only taste one thing from this establishment , make it the Cajun flathead. Un-bloody-believable! With only the flathead skeleton left and the wine polished off, we adjourned back to the bar where a duet pianist and drummer were kicking into a very cool evening of acoustic French jazz. Along with the food, a highlight was the atmosphere of the whole scene. Staff and locals were friendly, food was of the highest class, drinks were prepared with expertise, I really cannot rate the Clay Pots highly enough. From now on the Claypots in St Kilda is on our must do list when we visit Melbourne.

I love this place. me and my wife went out on a date night and we both love seafood, we got the bowl of mussels, 2 king prawns, the calamari, turkish green beans and the morrocan claypot and it was all delicious, and my wife is a hard seafood critic coming from cairns where there is so much fresh seafood and everything was perfectly cook there was no long wait just a 5 star experience

10/10! What a great place , food was on point , beautiful waitresses, stayed all night in the Jazz bar ! Danced till the wee hours , loved it

Simply the best, great fish great wine and jazz in the bar! I have been to Claypots 3 times on my trips to Melbourne and I have never been disappointed. Great atmosphere and just great food.

This place is amazing. Cool atmosphere and the most amazing fresh seafood and beautiful staff! We enjoyed our experience so much and will definitely return when we are next in Melbourne. Great for adults and families (our kids were made very welcome and catered for)

Food was exceptionally good and was really enjoyed by our group of 6 people. However, they did run out of two dishes and we were informed of this when we questioned the remainder of our order. And tried to charge us for food which wasn't delivered. The food we had was exquisite but the "head waitress" was rude, abrupt and made us feel as tho we were inconveniencing her. However, our waitress who actually took our order and served the food, was fabulous. Live music was great.

Food wise has 5 starts ! Was absolutely delicious and feels unfair to give them only 1 , but service.. was horrible. Basically have to look out for my self the whole evening. What it worst , bring a friend of mine with the best recommendations of the restaurant. Rude waiter, didn't explains us nothing about the menu ( first time I went they did had menu, not the giant board that I had to troubles to see with everyone heads) so have to figure it out. We ask them half muddled has prawns , he said no and recommended one of the expensive plates that we agreed on. Then I look to my right and next door couple got what we wanted with my friend. First fail. Never got offered a second drink. Never got a bottle of water. Have to get up and ask for it. Was rudely giving to me with no glasses. Had to reuse the ones we have had wine and beer and to be fair keeps going. Highly disappointed. Hope next time service gets better as I absolute love the food.

This place is just amazing and I would give it 6-7-8 or more stars if I could. Great service... but, above all, fresh fish and seafood. I went two nights in a row. Second night I tried their express joint which was less lively but just as good in terms of food and service. It is a place to fall in love with the people of this city and country. So relaxed and vibrant. Wish I had another night to go back!

Amazing. Tiger prawns, amazing. Chilli crabs, a fight to get the meat but worth it! Clay pots were Devine also. Cannot recommend this place enough

The absolute essence of st kilda. All things good and great. Couldn't love the place more. Staff, food, decor, music, ambience. All top shelf. Keep up the great work guys!

Been to many restaurants around the world. No one does seafood better. Calamari, octopus and king fish to die for.

The best for down to earth, no BS, fun! Friendly locals and staff. Fun and inclusive atmosphere. One of my favourite go to bars in St Kilda xx

We’ve been coming here for nearly 20 years. It’s our restaurant. In all that time, no matter if we go just the two of us, with another couple, with a group, we’re never disappointed. Never. We always come back wanting more. Amazing food, great prices, vibrant but not too noisy ambience, great service. What’s not to love? Keep it up claypots - we love you.
