Review Fitzrovia - St Kilda

Love this cafe! At peak brunch time on a late summer Saturday morning, not only did I manage to get a car park directly out front (unusual), but my pup and I were seated within about a minute and my order was taken with a smile very promptly. Coffee was delivered quickly and of great quality, and the breakfast brioche (which I highly recommend) was absolutely divine. Friendly service and my pup loved the extra attention, puppacino and treats! Will be back! 😀

It's my favorite Cafe & restaurant in Fitzory St. I recommended to my friend and we tried the slow cooked Lamb shoulder with Salad was very tasty. Friendly staff and nice environment for meeting friends. They provide a special Daily Menu which is very impressive. I would love to try Fish Pie next time. Thank you ~

Took my client who is a very sick man there this morning for breakfast. Waitress was amazing and friendly. We ordered my client his bacon and mozzarella toasted sandwich with poached egg. It came out and was slightly burnt. But all was excused when the manager and waitress handled it promptly and very well. My client has a sick and Doesn't like fuss, so I am so great full they handled it with ease when I told them. The coffee was amazing as well. Never been here as I have had my doubts about Fitzroy st but I am happy I took him here as it was amazing

Nice place next home. Food was great and they prepared a mix of desert for our friend birthday. They decorate the plate and made it so special. Coffee was fantastic and although it is a bit expensive, it is worth trying.

Probably the best thing about the snap lockdown #6 is the lockdown meal we brought from Fitzrovia. We ordered the Slow braised Central American lamb shoulder barbacoa with heirloom cherry tomato & lime salsa, pickled cabbage, lime chilli chickpea purée. Plus, Fitzrovia's gluten free chocolate brownie for dessert. The meal came with quick and easy instructions on how to heat up the meal and how to plate up. 3 serving was enough for 4 and for seconds. The lamb was tender, extremely tasty and the glaze was delicious. You can’t beat it or make it at home without having 2 sinks full of dishes to wash! Make lockdown more bearable and order from Fitzrovia.

Super friendly staffs 🥰 It was my second time in here. I love everything 😍 steak sandwich is my favorite. I couldn’t finish that actually. It’s really! Look at the picture I uploaded. Highly recommend this place :)

My companion and I ordered the burger. It was large, moist, hearty and very satisfying. Their menu is extensive and always interesting the food out if the kitchen is always good. But, after their excuberant but condescending welcome the staff are not very attentive. Once the order is taken it takes a long time before drinks arrive (food is much later). Even though they passed us numerous times they missed opportunities to check on whether we needed another drink. The ambiance is always busy, cold (all that glass, concrete, doors letting in cold air) and noisy. Not a place to go if you want to hear your companions conversation.

Such great tasty quality and value here. There's a reason this place has a steady crowd and survived the pandemic. One of my favourite cafes in St Kilda (along with The Galleon, Blencowes Milk Bar, and Cowderoy Dairy).

Just had the most amazing meal I've had in a long time! My parents and I traveled from Bendigo so we were starving, we checked in and walked to your establishment and were amazed at the flavoursome food we found. My mum eats small meals usually and when the huge meal came out I was like no way will she finish it but she loved the ocean trout pie so much she finished it off, my dad didn't even speak while he enjoyed his steak sandwich and I loved the Falafel.. so full of flavour! Also the polenta chips we shared were to die for! Thanks so much Fitzrovia we will be back and suggesting you to everyone :)

I recently organised a hen's event at Fitzrovia and I have to say Steven and the staff were fantastic! They set up a room for flower crown making, where we had antipasto platters and cocktails to snack on during the process. We had the set menu with choices out of 4 mains and desserts, which were cooked beautifully and well presented. We all left very satisfied. Steven kept up with our drinks demands with a variety of cocktails, which were quite fun and refreshing. I would highly recommend Fitzrovia for any small functions as they are great with communication, ensured everything ran smoothly and the quality of the food and service was superb!

My wife and I had been to Fitzrovia on a previous visit to Melbourne and loved it. Well this time it was at least as good again. The 4 breakfast/brunches we had there were all excellent. I particularly enjoyed the baked eggs (shakshuka style). I have no hesitation in recommending this “eggsellent” breakfast spot.

I really like this restaurant.<br/>Nice and comfortable <br/>I love the polenta chips and the steak<br/>High quality food for a good prize

One of the top brunches in Melbourne. Fantastic and diverse menu and very friendly service. Owner is lovely and does a great job making everyone feel welcome.

Food was great as usual, but service can be better, even if it’s during busy Saturday lunch hour, there’s no excuse. First server slammed coffee on the table and left, another one brought the coffee pictured above on the table, just said “sorry I spilled it” and left.

This chic cafe on a busy strip at St Kilda is such a gorgeous place to visit. With a European feel and pleasant atmosphere, we are always made to feel welcome here. Subtly decorated with a light ambience the focus at Fitzrovia is on the food and service, both of which are impeccable.<br/><br/>We have wined and dined here on several occasions, and the meals have always been exceptional; but my most recent visit was for coffee and cake. They have a divine display of homemade cakes and pastries, and it's always so difficult to choose. However, you can be guaranteed that whatever you pick will be fresh and delicious, and that little bit naughty!! Team that with perfect coffee, and it's plain to see that Fitzrovia has a loyal clientele that continue to return for very good reason.

I had a very interesting experience on the weekend here. Firstly we took a seat and didnt get a menu or acknowledgement for about 15mins after we were told to take a seat from someone inside. After getting the menus waited another 20mins for our orders to be taken after watching other customers (2 tables) who came after us have their orders taken. After our orders were taken we were given cutlery, my partner got a knife and fork and I got a knife with a promise that my fork will come later, never did ( I had to ask for a fork after my meal was served). Also ordered a juice and the waiter came over saying did u order a carrot juice and we said no it was an immunity juice or something with oranges. She told us just take it so we did. Then another waiter came after a while with another juice and saw I had a juice so she took it back so no idea if I got the right juice. We also only ordered one long black but two came out so they took it back. When the bill came the charged us for 2. It was just not a pleasant experience. Staff just super confused and had no idea what they were doing. I was disappointed that I stayed after not getting any service for 15mins when we sat down or even looked at. Food was okay, wasn't worth the 1.5 hour wait though.<br/>

• Coffee isn’t that good.<br/>• Rude, arrogant, staff members that refuse to serve you. <br/>• The host made us feel like we were a burdened because we were walk ins and did not book. <br/>• The only thing I liked about the place was the interior and the food is decent quality.<br/>• Very pricey.<br/><br/>

For years now, Fitzrovia has been a family favourite for brunch and for tourists visiting Melbourne. Fitzrovia takes the middle meal to a restaurant experience with attentive service, a full range of menu options and alcohol on the side, if one wishes it. Not only that, but you can

Fitzrovia it was when 4 of us decided to have our lunch on a Sunday afternoon, and, Oh My God!! It was missing with crowd.<br/><br/>Have ourselves seated around a table, after 10 minutes, we were quite impressed by the Menu and Special Menu.<br/><br/>Ordered a Kamasutra Chai with Macadamia Milk, Hot Choclate and Cappuccino to go with Polenta Chips, Fish of the Day, Hummus, Puff Pastry with Seafood and Home smoked Rockling.<br/><br/>Where the coffee, tea.and hot chocolate were just right, Polenta Chips were just perfect.<br/><br/>Rest of the Food was pretty average. Ingredients used were perfectly fresh and crisp, and some flavors were beautiful, but, something lacked in each of the dishes.<br/><br/>Fish of the day - Dory, although cooked perfecrly was salty, Hummus was dry though the aajad was good, Puff Pastry wasn't flaky ywt the seafood was well flavored, and the Rockling lacked flavors yet was a meal in itself.<br/><br/>Understanding they were quite busy on that day, and we would certainly like to give them a benefit of doubt...Or how about having fewer dishes and doing them right? Could be anything!! Don't want to assume!!<br/><br/>Attendants seemed overburdened and cold. Prices are steep compared to other cafes but the quality of ingredients used is top-notch.<br/><br/>Not sure if we would like to return.<br/>

Came here on a Tuesday lunchtime, the restaurant was quite busy and the outdoor seatings were almost all taken. The waitress was friendly and interactive and introduced some of the specials on the meals including the pulled pork burger which was massive! But it was very well cooked and seasoned to perfection, with juice floating everywhere. Does not recommend if you are on a date and want to eat neatly... <br/><br/>The potato Gnocchi was light and fluffy, like a delicious salty pillow for my mouth! The porcini mushrooms and portobello mushrooms were surprisingly juice. The goat cheese provided a much needed tanginess to complete the whole dish. However i think it could use a good squeeze of lemon juice too to cut down on the richness. There was a significantly longer wait time than other brunch spots though. Overall a very enjoyable lunch and will be back. <br/><br/>Ambience: 4.5/5<br/>Food Quality: 4.5/5<br/>Service: 4.5/5<br/>Overall rating: 4.5/5<br/><br/>P.S. I didn’t encounter or witness any especially rude staff except a slightly indifferent waitress who brought about the coffee.. I do get the vibe that they are understaffed and the servers are under a bit more pressure than a normal cafe. Keep in mind if you are looking for consistent extraordinary services as it may differ depending on which waitress/waiter you get.

Menu great, coffee ok but service is poor! Asked for coffee to come with brunch and came straight away when asked if brunch was coming soon, reply was “guess so”. Advised moving to table outside to sit in the sun was met with a sigh.... it’s about the customer!! Without them you have no business. <br/>When my food arrived I did mention I asked for coffee at same time and was abruptly told “no you didn’t” she snatched away the coffee I was drinking and said I’ll bring you another. I know where I won’t be returning to.<br/>Such a shame as great food 😒

Great staff but would have liked to be kept in loop that meal was not up to chef standard and he would do again but reality was only mussels and waited long time and happy to keep selling drinks while waiting<br/>Wednesday special just had to do great value<br/><br/>

TERRIBLE SERVICE, appalling customer service!<br/>There were three of us plus a baby who regretfully dined at this cafe for lunch today. Despite the little things we encountered from the moment we went into the cafe, from inattentive staff to not being child friendly. As a group of 3 (plus a baby) we were having a good time celebrating a birthday. But as soon as we asked for a knife to cut a cake we brought in (cake was in full view and on the table from the start). We were AGGRESSIVELY told off by the female manager that we weren’t allowed to have the cake in there and there will be a $3.50 per person charged if we wished.<br/>Look we understand the charges plus we would’ve been happy to pay and also would have genuinely replied with “oh whoops sorry we didn’t know”, but the way she talked down to us and aggressively told us the rules was uncalled for! <br/>So we decided not to let this go as it’s not fair to be talked to in that way. Well, I don’t know if that female manager gets pulled up about her attitude ever, wished we’ve filmed the whole ordeal but she was not apologetic and proceeded to be more aggressive. So disappointing to end our lunch that way. Appalling way to talk to patrons and will never come back to this cafe EVER!<br/>Please: if you are thinking of going here, don’t waste your money and time, go to another cafe nearby who will appreciate and serve you kindly. <br/>NOTE: not child friendly

I was quite disappointed by the service here hence the 3 stars. I arrived at around 11.35 am. Asked for a table inside, was asked to look for the man in the checked shirt. After I found him, he told me to look for a woman. This woman refused to make eye contact - well she did but it was so fleeting that I could barely grab her attention. I waited for around 15 minutes for her while the barista apologized and said she will be with you soon. I finally agreed to sit outside and told the man in the checked shirt and got a table right away. <br/>Between us, we got the fish of the day that was white fish in saffron sauce with semolina dumplings and the fritters with poached eggs. <br/>I quite liked the fritters due to the fresh pesto sauce and it was quite satisfying. <br/>The fish did not go well with the saffron sauce but the semolina dumplings were an interesting addition and delicious. <br/>Quite a pricey meal as it came to around 24 dollars per person and interesting food options.

Modern dining menu and drink menu to match, friendly helpful staff. Entree dishes great range for a snack or nibbles with drink. Didn’t have time for dinner but will be back.

Our bad experience of Fitzrovia started in our first interaction when the waitress refused to take our booking claiming they were booked out. She refused to check/review the bookings claiming she knew it was supposedly full. We walked in after 30 mins, waited for 15 mins hoping someone would attend to us. Once seated, our coffee orders were taken. The waitress forgot to put through an order and we waited over 20 mins for a coffee to be served. We had waited over 40 mins for our mains to come out so we decided to check in with the staff. We were supposedly attended by the manager/ owner, who was extremely rude and told us we need to wait and it's totally normal on a "busy" Sunday. He then further asked us if we wanted to argue and snatched the coffee glasses off. He also called me rude for complaining about bad service that I received. We understand that it was supposedly a busy day for them, but as a customer, we have every right to know how long our order will take. A friend on the table went in to just explain why we were angry about the situation, which the owner confused to embarrassment. We further spoke to a waitress who said she could do nothing about it as he was the owner. <br/><br/>Having worked in hospitality for a few years myself, the first thing we are taught is to deal with customer complaints. I don't remember a single instance where the manager has yelled back at any customer, irrespective of how furious they were. <br/><br/>Fitzrovia really needs to review the team. While the food is great, the owner is really disrespectful. <br/><br/>We posted a review on Google reviews, to which the owner replied and mocked at us, instead of simply apologizing for the situation. <br/><br/>Would never recommend this place to anyone mainly because of the downgrade treatment we got today.

Extremely limited take away menu, overpriced, tiny portion sizes. Ordered the potato gnocchi and was served a tiny amount of gnocchi and an overabundance of mushrooms. Poor tasting, couldn’t even finish the meal.

I ordered the picnic set before actually eat at restaurant and surprisingly the food for the picnic was really good (the truffle sandwich was unforgettable). that's why I decided to eat there after I returned the picnic set.<br/>🥪 I ordered the bacon sandwich and mushroom.<br/>Both was beyond expectation! It was one of the best brunch dishes. The portion quite big.<br/>☕️ the chai latte wasn't special. <br/>I'm going back there asap ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>🧺 I also recommend ordering the picnic set, it was a really cute set with a fantastic menu.
Morgs85
The food is lovely, but every time (lately) I have brunch here, I wait. Wait for service, wait for my meal to come (45 mins for poached eggs?!), wait to pay- why am I interrupting people to take my money? Such a great spot, but the service puts me off!
Vanessa
Amazing brunch place! The ambience is beautiful, the staff were super friendly and inviting and the food was deeelishhh! Also make great bloody Mary’s for those hung over mornings! 10/10!

Wouldn’t eat here again. Table of 6 for breakfast. Hardly anyone else in the cafe. Food was nice, always has been the many many times I’ve been here. This was the 5th time I’d eaten breakfast with these 5 people at the same cafe. And I’d been here many more times for takeaway and smaller groups. However on this occasion they refused to split the bill, saying they don’t do it. (After we’d eaten of course). Every single other time I’d been they’d done it. But that wasn’t even the issue, so be it if that’s what the policy was for that day. It was how the man serving chose to behave after we asked why that was because itd been done before. the man first replied rudely that it was too busy to do. It was 7am on a Monday, there was hardly anyone there, other than two others at the register ordering a takeaway coffee, which he served before us anyway. Anyway, he continued on with his attitude whilst we paid. This man was so arrogant, argumentative, rude and disrespectful to all of us. I could go on and on about the particulars of conversation with this man, but I won’t. Let’s just say it ruined a perfectly good breakfast, like the many we’d had before this occasion. But it was so bad that I and the 5 others with me will never ever eat here again, nor will it be recommended to anyone we know. This is the first cafe I’ve ever said that about, I’m usually very easygoing and forgiving of experiences eating out, but this was above and beyond. Do yourself a favour, eat elsewhere on Fitzroy st, where the staff will treat you nicely.

Decent food but again one of those places which list things on the menu as "Gluten Free" which are actually cooked in the same oil as things with gluten. So if you have strict requirements, make sure you let them know. The waitress was clear about what was actually gluten free or not when ordering, so I felt confident eating there.

St Kilda can be hard when you’re a suburb tourist but not an actual tourist. This place was great. Staff friendly and efficient, food tasty and coffee awesome. Great ambience. Worth a visit for sure!

Great meal! Generous serves, friendly staff and efficient service. Highly recommend for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Great to see into the kitchen where the magic happens 😄
The Food Vogue By Le Seynt
I had lunch here and ordered baked beans with eggs with an extra sausage. My dish was dry, my eggs were over cooked and the chef forgot about the sausage. It was busy when we were there which explains the slow service. Besides this, my bf had the roast pork and it was nice.

Came here on Sunday which was Mothers Day last week and was surprised that we (2 pax) didn't have to wait too long to be seated. My fears of a large crowd taking their mums out for a brunch treat were wrong! <br/><br/>We sat outside (which was lovely) and quickly ordered coffees. We then browsed the menu and ended up ordering x2 of the Sweet Potato and Caramelised Onion Fritters with Mushrooms, Pea Shoots and Poached Eggs (+ saganaki -how could I forget!). This caught our eye when the menu hit the table although there were many options that sounded enticing. <br/><br/>The dishes once they came out didn't just look good - it tasted wonderful. I was actually surprised at how much better and flavourful it was then I had assumed. The sauce mixed through the mushrooms and shoots (which acted as a base for the fritters) was delicious and layered. I really liked that I could enjoy the crispiness of the fritters whilst lapping it up in the juices of the sauce and mushrooms as well as the gooey yolk from the eggs. Oh, and Saganaki makes everything better. <br/><br/>All round I was thoroughly impressed and will be back for food again seeing as this is one of my locals. My only discretion with my experience was that I found it very odd that the table we were seated on could be considered communal? It was WAY too small and I voiced that I'd feel very uncomfortable with anyone else sitting there. It would be too close for comfort.<br/> <br/><br/>UPDATE: I've come again fro brunch mid-week and have again enjoyed my time at the cafe. I sat inside this time and the food was consistently delicious.

I went to Fitzrovia with my partner for my birthday. We arrived around 1.30ish and got a table for two. We placed our order and waited for around 25 minutes and one of the waitress came to our table to inform that my order just ran out and i need to change. We were pretty upset because 25 minutes is considered a long time to wait for a food, however i changed to another menu and wait longer. ( but at least she was polite and offered us coffee).<br/><br/>After another 25 minutes we complaint again and ask to talk to the manager to cancel our food. This waiter who claimed to be the manager was so rude and said "i just placed the order 15 minutes ago" which was NOT TRUE because we keep track of the time. Not long after, another waiter bring our food and we started to eat. The manager came back to our table and ask us "Do you still want to cancel your order?" WHILE WE WERE EATING OUR FOOD which was super RUDE. Then he turn around and said "What do you want me to do?". I feel like they are blaming  us for not being patience, but in my defence we were waiting for almost an hour to get our food and as a manager he should be able to make the situation better and not blaming the customer! This was the worst experience ever and i will never come back to this place!  I really do not understand how Fitzrovia gets so many great reviews.<br/><br/>Today is a public holiday and the restaurant charged an extra 10% for service fees which I am ok to pay. But, with this service, really???????<br/><br/>I can only hope that the owner respond to all these bad reviews, and  not only the good ones. You seriously need to review your team especially" the manager". I really can't believe that's how a manager react to a situation!!!!
Justine Mc Garrell
Coffee order was forgotten. Our food came out before our drinks. wrong order comes out and one order needs to be sent back. Waitor was extremely rude to me when I sent the food back. Will not be back. Too many other good places to go in Melbourne were the staff are friendly.

I went to Fitzrovia for a work friend’s farewell lunch yesterday. We were able to order our food online so by the time we got to the venue the food was already on the table waiting for us. This is really useful for locals working on St Kilda Road. It can take a while to get to Fitzrovia and by the time you order and eat you don’t have much time left in your hour break go return to work in time so this is definitely a good method! <br/><br/>I ordered the soy and mirin raw salmon salad bowl. Delicious and so healthy! All my favourite things in one bowl and so happy it wasn’t overloaded with lettuce (thank you! Other places would have loaded it up with lettuce and I’m really not a lettuce fan anyway!). The homemade kimchi was amazing as well! Only thing I could have thought of adding was wasabi for the raw salmon. Then it would have been perfect. <br/><br/>The male waiter (or was it a manager?) was very friendly! We got a bottle of champagne to share and he was good humoured, joking that he could put an espresso martini in a takeaway coffee cup to take back to the office 😂 we didn’t take him up on his offer but it was a good joke! <br/><br/>Over all the experience was fun! Good to see some personality in some of these restaurants near work nowadays!

I would give this place a 4.5 star if possible but the fish pie was only okay. looked great tasted okay. the environment was very pleasant and the staff were Friendly. the arancini and gnocchi was brilliant though!!

Very nice food and always a lot of puppies which is exciting for me. Only had the breakfast menu so far. Which is delish mmmhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Julia Stehli
The delicious food (fritters and ocean trout) and the appealing interior of this cafe would deserve a rating of 5 stars. Unfortunately some of the male waiters are pretty rude and make you feel rather unwelcome. Further the coffee is bitter and definitely below average in Melbourne.
Eatjin
The only thing I enjoyed was gnocchi . the tart was close to inedible it was 90% leek and the polenta chips was such a joke it was so salty. maybe it’s my personal preference but the herbs on it made me gag. This is honestly the worst place I’ve been to overall a traumatising experience that’s gonna make me hate leek for the rest of my life.

What a delight, great food, good coffee , pleasant setting. I had the special of the day which was the seared fish with a kiwi fruit salad which was very nice, my partner ordered the steaks sandwich which was enormous and delicious at the same time.

Had the raw salmon salad bowl today, amazing fresh food, lots of flavour and colour! Waiter was efficient and great coffee too. Love the vibe of the cafe. Will definitely be coming back.

Beautiful St Kilda location, with incredible food and ambience. Always super busy so book ahead or be prepared to wait. I had a calamari salad. It was a large serving with delicious noodles and lots of fresh herbs. Healthy and fresh!! The friends I dined with chowed down on the steak<br/>Sandwich and signature pallenta chips - which were on point and a must!! Make sure you are hungry - as the servings are a good size and absolutely delicious.

Visiting from Sydney and wanted to try this supposedly ‘amazing’ place with a famous chef for a late breakfast. Arrived with the family in tow. Our two kids were wanting a simple eggs on toast while we were going to have the french toast and eggs. We asked how many eggs were in a single serve so the kids could share (there was kids’ meals on offer). The waitress said there were two eggs so we asked one to be scrambled and one to be fried and they would share the meal (our kids couldn’t eat 2 eggs each - it would be such a waste- they’re both under 8!). We also asked for our eggs (which were served with smoked ham hock) to remove the ham because and swap it with mushrooms. <br/>Waitress came back to say that the chef couldn’t give us the eggs as ordered for the kids because it was too busy. The restaurant was half full! She also advised that even though we were removing the ham, we would be charged another $4 for mushrooms! For $24 for a dish where the ham is being removed, why would you charge extra for mushrooms? And then to not do the eggs in a half empty restaurant... how is that even a thing? We are basically asking you to make a scrambled egg using one egg and a fried egg using one egg?! Needless to say, we cancelled our food order, paid for our drinks (great coffee and juice) and left to try another place for breakfast (Two Birds and One Stone - great food, great service!). Such a disappointment after much anticipation!

Love this place!<br/><br/>Food 2: good Food and coffee!<br/><br/>Atmosphere & décors 2: this place is very popular and busy. Love the decoration and arts. Give me the European feeling ☺️<br/><br/>Service 1: very friendly and attentive!

This is a great place for breakfast, brunch and lunch! Food is delicious and the St Ali coffee is always consistent. Very efficient and warm service and because it’s a popular place, booking is always recommended.

The cafe is situated at opposite of Albert park. Friendly customer service and coffee has great aroma. I've also tried Latte with almond milk which gives light flavour. Thick cut bacon was so tasty. Tart of the day had well seasoning and beautiful salad dressing. Excellent quality of food.
VintageGirl
Food was great. They list our order and we waited half hour for coffees and an hour for food. But they gave us the coffees for free. Would go back.

Fresh produce displayed and utilised to its best to create gorgeous, palatable dishes. Tried the polenta crusted fingers and eggs Benedict. They were sapid and ambriosal! The only deterrent was losing my precious Pradas at this place. Made the whole experience unforgettable. Steer clear of forgetting your shades at the washroom and you'll love this place.

BEST croissant ever with plentiful of hot homemade jam(best tasting jam might I add). <br/>Yesterday I went and they were out of croissants. <br/>TODAY I travelled there from the South Eastern suburbs, 3 hours before my work started just so I could get to Fitzrovia when it opened JUST so I can get that bloody amazing croissant with jam. <br/>When I got there, I ordered the croissant and sat in. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT! <br/>Croissant was lovely but the jam was 1) not warm and 2) serving was about a teaspoon which was barely anything to fill my croissant. With an espresso, my meal came to $9.50. Could anyone justify paying this amount for a simple croissant and espresso? I hardly think so.  I really do not understand how and why Fitzrovia gets so many great reviews. Overpriced and disappointing experience. Needless to say, I will never, ever, EVER come here again.

Will definitely be coming back for breakfast, lunch or dinner! I came for lunch, ordering the incredible polenta fries, although they filled me up before my main arrived. We ordered the pie and fritters, both generous servings with delicious flavours! Service was lovely and coffee was perfect!<br/><br/>Edit- Returned again, just as delicious the first time. Ordered the creme brulee French toast and it was amazing. Hats off to the chef!

I have been a fan of original Fitzrovia's chef/owner Paul Juson since 2010, loving to watch him and this team prepare food for us. Time flies, team changed, this lovely cafe continues to produce both excellent food and great coffee. Customer service is very nice and attentive. Spring 2017, my experience at Fitzrovia remains the same, hoping they keep continuing their good work for customers. Highly recommended 👍

Came here this morning for brunch with my partner, Josh. We got a lovely table outside in the glorious sunshine and there was some pleasant music playing to add to the ambiance. We got a couple of coffees to start and then Josh had the mushroom omelette with a gruyere potato cake and I had the toasted doorstop sandwich. The serving sizes were enormous! And the sandwich was 100% incredible! Flawless! Good quality bread, good quality cheese, loaded with delicious bacon and delicious relish! Yum! Service was great as well!

I had heard SO much about this little Gem ! Living in Perth I was really looking forward to trying out their "famous Steak Roll"<br/>We were greeted by a lovely waitress who told us their menu had changed but she would still organise the steak roll for us <br/>We ordered a steak roll to share ( my son and I ) and also the gnocchi - I have no words Both were absolutely delicious !! <br/>The service was excellent !! Will definitely be back the next time I am in Melb to try their Breakfast menu ❤️

Went there to celebrate birthday. Nice food with attracting decoration. The glass building is perfect match with afternoon sunshine. Strongly recommend

I have only tried their breakfasts and front window quickbites. The breakfast was really good the first time but the second time I ordered it, it was terrible :( the Rosti was literally mashed potato slipped on the plate. So very disappointing. It must have been a bad day, or a bad cook. <br/><br/>There window options for cakes, slices, muffins, blt, croissants 🥐 however ARE AMAZING!!!i love the BLT, it's really tasty and very well priced :) and today I walked out with a savoury muffin which it yummy. They have some regular options that are always there and they also change it up and add different ones each day. <br/><br/>I would like to try the lunch/ dinner next :)

Polenta chips was just great. And combination of meatballs with mashed potato was also good. Peaceful and calm instilling decor. A good experience overall.

Fabulous! What a great place. Literally stumbled upon Fitzrovia for Saturday lunch as we don't normally stop at this end of Fitzroy st. The very gorgeous Marco was our waiter & said we simply HAD to start with the Truffled Polenta chips & oh my lord, we are sooo glad we did! They are the BEST polenta chips we've ever had....& we've tried many. They were so good in fact, we went back on Sunday to have them again! Our other dishes were wonderful too, so this will now be a must visit when on that side of town! Marco was fabulous too.

Food was good. Service pretty poor. Was super busy but seemed understaffed so very long wait for food and coffee. Some staff were good, others very rude. Especially when we had to send coffee back twice because it was cold twice !

Great cafe on Fitzroy st...chai latte was fantastic. i ordered the gnocchi which was yummy...a little dissappointing when i asked for extra parmesan and being charged $4 for a thimble full...bring my own next time. Salad special was great and huge...service was not so good though...manager needs sto take some happy pills i think...3 of us were being seated on a table for 4 nd he said no it is reserved...we were placed on a table for 2 or squeezed onto it...still waiting for the reserved table to turn uo as we were there for 2 hours and it was still empty...food great serbice needs a dose of friendlness...will go back in better weather do we can sit outside nd not squeezed inside.

Brought my friends and their kid here for brunch. Kids friendly. Ordered their special lunch menu and Polenta Chips. The pie's and filling normal, nothing special The water cress on top of the pie could use a little vinaigrette. The polenta chips was pretty good. Definitely a must have. Their espresso is a little too sour for me. Overall experience is not too bad. Might return if I am in the area.

Coffee here can be hit and miss, there can also be quite a long wait time for take away. There is always a lovely display of pastries and cakes on display.

Awesome brunch place at St Kilda. Creme brĂťlĂŠe is fantastic. Food is great. Ambience is warm and cozy. Definitely a good place to dine and hang out before heading to the beach!

This place has nice modern cuisine and is moderately priced. They have a variety of dishes that will appeal to a range of people's tastes. There are also some home made style cakes at the front. Each day there are different pasta specials which are probably my favorite dishes to try. On a few occasions with the pasta, my friends and I found it quite salty, however the dish overall was still full of flavour. Last time I had a pork sausage roll and there was a hair stuck on side of the roll when I received it. The roll had a better texture than other rolls. The salad was made with a variety of leaves and people who appreciate salad should fine it has lots of flavor.<br/><br/>The service staff are very good and they are proactive with the service. They do like to suggest those polenta chips. This is definitely one of the more popular places in their area you should try.<br/><br/>

Have been here many times, lovely outdoor section getting a good view of the city, consisting food with great flavours. Always look forward to it, brunch is better than dinner however.

Service was absolutely terrible. The staff were so rude and cocky... I felt very awkward being at the counter then by the time I received my food it wasn't that great either. Won't be coming back here again

Had a delicious breakfast here this morning. I had heard great things and they definitely lived up to my expectations. I got the sweet potato fritters with saganaki and mushrooms and every element was perfect. I want those fritters everyday! Thank you !

LOVE THIS PLACE!! They not only have great food but as someone with celiac disease I really appreciated that when I asked for gluten free, they asked whether that was intolerance grade or celiac... I almost hugged the waiter. The only slightly negative thing I can say is… bring some coin! Going here is an outing and though I love it, not one that can be afforded on a regular basis. My personal favourite dish is the steak sandwich which I happily pay $26 because of the size and quality

I've been here for breakky this morning. Me and hubby had cappuccino, hubby said it's one of the best cuppa he ever had. For meals, i had ham and cheese croissant (taste good, ham and cheese never go wrong) and hubby had eggs on your way, he requested for scrambled eggs on sourdough served with tomato chutney. I liked how they cooked scrambled eggs, it was so fluffy yet softy and not dry. All cost we paid $31, best value for money

Fitzrovia is a popular little provincial English, all-day dining spot on Fitzroy Street.<br/><br/>Decked out with old typewriters, eclectically-stacked bookshelves and wooden crates of lemons, fennel and apples dotted about the place, it’s the perfect, homely spot to start the day. <br/><br/>Predominantly using all local produce, my scrambled eggs, smashed avocado with feta and bacon was on the top end of the sliding scale that can be scrambled eggs. Fitzrovia also has a cake display of the delicious variety. I bagged a raspberry, peach and ricotta slice for later.<br/><br/>Alternatively, if you didn’t want to dine in, you can pick up a Fitzrovia gourmet picnic hamper* full of goodies, for a picnic in the St Kilda Botanical Gardens.<br/><br/>* Unfortunately, this won’t suit the unorganised – you need to place the picnic hamper order with Fitzrovia at least 24 hours in advance.

Rare north like atmosphere in downtown St Kilda. Easy reach from the tram.<br/>Great staff! Very friendly. Good variety on the menu.<br/>Laptop and work friendly (good wifi).

I have been here a few times because is by my home. <br/> <br/> <br/>As usually to drink coffee and to eat breakfast. <br/>Good atmosphere and good location. <br/>It's not a best cafe but is very good, beautiful and big plate, also for lunch.<br/>Probably I'll can come back.

From Boxing Day, 2016.<br/><br/>We are fickle. It is like going out to bat in cricket. You make a long walk out to the middle; get your bearings by taking centre; and if you don’t perform you make that long walk back to the pavilion, sometimes never to return to the middle. It might be a stretch but that is a metaphor for a café’s first performance.<br/>There are a range of customers that allow café owners to make a profit. The base, or annuity if you like, is the regulars. The cream is the others. Those who come once but recommend to others (who themselves will hopefully visit more than once), and those who are patrons, but just less regular.<br/><br/>The regulars are easier. If the café walks out to the middle, bats a bit too far out of their crease, and makes a wild shot only to be caught out, they’ll still get selected to return and give it another crack. Some of the less regular patrons might even do the same. But what about when there is an off day, or an off section of the café, and a potential multiple visitor comes in?

Simple but nice <br/>Nice breakfast and coffee with friendly service . After read from reviews we found out We missed out to order the famous polenta chips last time . We will definitely come back again

Normally love eating here, however had a bad experience. We rocked up at about 9:15 and it was the usual busy for a Sunday, however once we had ordered, it was bout 10:15 before we started getting hungry and frustrated. The waitress came over at about 10:20 and said 'it is very busy so your food is on the way,' yet 2 other couples came well after us, ate and then left. A large table that came after us were nearly finished their food. It was 10:45 and we'd had enough and paid for the coffees and left. After I told the girl on the register we had waited about 1 and a half hours, she said defensively, it was only 20 minutes in her system. It was clear the waitress had forgot to put in our order. The reason for the review is that when mistakes are made, own up to them and offer something to smooth the situation over. Don't lie that it is busy when other tables are being turned over and the customer is clearly frustrated. The waitress was polite and nice about it, but we just could not be bothered waiting any longer. If she had have brought some bread over or something and admitted her mistake, we'd have been much more understanding.

Great place and great food. It's a different feel from he saint kilda we're used to. There's a 4hr parking across the cafe as well so long brunches is ideal.

Ok went in to ask the staff for a table abs was not spoken to for 15 mins then sat down and was asked to ask a waiter ammmm sorry was already waiting for ages. <br/>It was sat morning food took ages to arrive ordered the thick cut bacon dish it was ok but way to fatty and greasy there was no balance on the plate and it was a small portion it needed some toast to soak up all the fat. <br/>I felt like I was hit by a train after I ate it and after the dish had bacon and fried eggs and a potato cake there was a huge dollop of Mayo. On top why ???? Like a heart attack any way prob won't return would rather go to galleon. <br/>It is also painfully dear for breakfast

I had ordered Pan Fried Pork Veal Meatballs with Paris Mash Potatoes, nicely made fine meal - a little pricey. With such attentive, polite staff and also surrounded by a pretty landscape just outside the large glass windows.  That little pricey-ness is deserved.
EatMeMelbourne
Not impressed with this service here at all. It took way too long to even be acknowledged by the wait staff, around 25 minutes to get our coffees and closer to 45 minutes before we were even brought the fillet sandwich (which landed on our table with a thud). The food itself was bleh, like that you might find in any casual suburban pub. Not photo worthy. Won't be back.

I always promise myself I will order something different but I can never go past the sweet potato fritters! My dog loves it here too! Also recommend the polenta chips and best hot chocolate in Melbourne.
Mrs Mark
We had the Persian baked eggs and the thick cut bacon with gruyere and potato cakes. The Persian baked eggs were delicious and flavoursome. I'd go back and have it again

Went in to grab a coffee - it's a huge space, upstairs seating, looks like a little vegetable market. Heaps of pastries and desserts on the counter for sale and I love the old school cash register. My coffee was nice, although took a while for them to take my order. Looks like a good place to eat.

Thick cut bacon was seriously thick (2cm thick), food quality was emaculate. The mocha was pretty much above average and the hot chocolate was really good, although the price for them was a tad bit higher at $5 than what I'm used to. Food service was fast. Other than the interior design was a tad bit random, I can only give this place a 4.5/5 and will be coming back for their specialty fries soon.

Great food, but some of the rudest and most unpleasant staff I've had the misfortune to encounter. Think twice about your visit as their attitude wrecked what should have been a really pleasant lunch. <br/><br/>

Restaurant quality food in a cafe. <br/>What more can I say, I enjoyed dinner here one night this week, and the dishes were all excellent. You could tell they used the freshest of ingredients, which brought out all flavours you would expect from a garden kitchen. The service was spot on with attentive staff. I also like the open kitchen, as you could see how well the chefs worked together. My only criticism would be the surrounding decor and noise, but then again it is a busy cafe, and we were after all there for the food. Would I go back - defiantly yes.

A regular haunt of mine but just realized I've never done a review! Generally, the dishes on their menu are amazing. Be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. Everything is so well prepared and plated with care. St Ali's coffee is served and the baristas always do it justice. They also make good cocktails using local liquor such as a Melbourne Gin. Good place for a drink on a nice day as they also have plenty of outdoor seating. <br/><br/>Over the weekend we had the gnocchi and the fish pie. Gnocchi was the best I've ever had, I'm not sure if it's authentic but it's definitely my favorite gnocchi - soft on the inside and lightly toasted on one side. The pie had a beautiful puff pastry crust on the outside and trout, rockling and prawns as the protein on the inside. It was baked beautifully and I'd have two if it wasn't so filling! <br/><br/>Ok I realized the review might be over the top but I promise I don't work here! Just a big fan of the food.

Was looking forward to lunch at my favorite Sunday lunch cafe in melbourne. The kitchen was clearly overwhelmed with the Sunday rush. When the table of 8 next to us, which was seated well after us, received their meals we decided that, after waiting 70 minutes for two salads, it was time to leave with empty stomachs. It's a rotten feeling to get up and move on. Perhaps some bread to the table or complementary nibble would have made the difference instead of staring at an empty table for over an hour. We got homemade pies to munch on the way home 😋

Very cool place! Coffee is always beautiful. Interior is wonderfully designed & comfortable. Staff are always friendly and look like they love their jobs! Food is fast & fresh & the quality is second to none. One of my favourite places in St Kilda!

The coffee is average, but the muffins are to die for!!<br/>fresh and fluffy inside.<br/><br/>polenta chips and the muffins are the only dishes I come for~<br/>they are amazingly good.<br/><br/>Usually get coffee from elsewhere :P

I have always enjoyed dining at this cafe the coffee is nice, the service is good and the food has always been top quality. The scrambled eggs on buttered toast, gruyere potato cake, avocado and tomato relish was delicious. I have also sampled many of their slices and cakes and have never been disappointed! The decor and feel of the cafe is exceptional love the rustic old world charm.

We went here on the weekend for the second time. Just had to have the Polenta chips again, they are absolutely amazing. <br/>We started with wine and Polenta chips and than onto the mains. There was a confusion with our mains and I didn't recieve mine. After speaking to the waitress they corrected the mistake and apologized.<br/>Even though there was a mistake, it was corrected and we still had a great experience. So Thank you to the great staff, we will be back again. <br/>

I can see why the truffled polenta chips are a bestseller at Fitzrovia. They're amazingly crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with flavours of earthy truffle, cheese, and herbs meshing well with the maize. The rest of the menu is very appealing as well, and it's evident that great ingredients are used at this establishment with local produce labels being described. The sweet potato and caramelised onion fritters were delicious, though the outsides were very burnt. The combination of saganaki, eggs, and sautĂŠed veggies was a good balance to the dish too. The winner of Fitzrovia was actually the interior decor for me, I love the attention to detail with the ornate fixtures at this cafe! Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the house baked goods out the front too... Am looking forward to my next visit.

Been here a couple of times for brunch/lunch. Consistently excellent service and food quality. Had gnocchi yesterday, which was mind-blowing! Easily one of the best gnocchi in Melbourne I reckon. Well done guys! 😌

I went to this fantastic cafe for a Saturday lunch with my sisters a few weeks ago. Those polenta chips really are awesome! I had the gnocchi, and my sisters raved about the meatballs and their breakfast selections. Great service! Great brunch cocktails. I can't wait to go back. We made a reservation which was definitely the right move. The place is bustling! I will be back for sure.

Ordering their renowned white truffle polenta chips was a good recommendation by the waitress! The smell of truffle immediately hits you when it reaches the table and such a generous portion too! The beef bourbon was tasty and portion was huge (could be shared)! Unfortunately the creme brulee French toast I was keen to devour was a let down :( I guess some things only sound good on the menu

I've been here many times before and it is literally my favourite restaurant at this end of St Kilda. The main guy there is always attentive to customers and has a quirky humour. <br/><br/>The one thing I have been ordering constantly here are the polenta chips. They were amazing the first time I tried them many years ago but they seem to have gotten better this time around. What have they changed? Added more truffle oil? I don't know but it was just more tasty this time. 5/5<br/><br/>I also tried their creme brĂťlĂŠe French toast for the first time and it was divine. But ... The jus syrup could've been omitted as it didn't really add much to the dish and actually made the French toast overly soggy. I would've been happy to have it without the jus and instead had more of the whipped mascarpone. Yum! 4/5
BIRCHER QUEEN 👑
We were able to book a table for 2 on a Sunday at 12pm. It was busy however I couldn't believe it was a 30 minute wait for our coffees... Food was good. The Bircher was exactly have Bircher should be - sweet and textured however it was on the small side in terms of serving.

The best steak sandwich i have had in Melbourne! <br/>200g scotch fillet steak, fresh grated beetroot and mayonnaise on delicious chunky bread. <br/>Highly recommend this little place. Perfect for a glass of wine outside on a sunny day.

Came here for a late (more lunchtime) breakfast for our first morning on a Melbourne weekend.<br/><br/>Watching all the staff rush around, there was no doubt that Fitzrovia was a very popular venue. After being seated in a rather quick but friendly manner, my Mum and I perused the menu. I had already done my research and knew exactly what I wanted- Persian baked eggs- and after much umming and aahing, Mum settled on the smoked trout.<br/><br/>After two tasty cappuccinos, our breakfasts came out, and I am not ashamed to say there was some excited squealing at the sight that met us.<br/><br/>My Persian baked eggs were jam packed with flavour - roasted capsicum, creamy feta, dukkah and deliciousness in one small skillet. The Turkish pide was equally scrumptious, and an excellent way to soak up left over juices.<br/><br/>Mum told me her meal was just as good, and she was pleasantly surprised to find that the soda bread was not crusty and impossible to cut as thick bread so often is, but soft and warm like a scone. <br/><br/>The only thing letting down the meals were the eggs were a bit runnier to how we usually like them, but that may just be personal preference.<br/><br/>If anyone is visiting st kilda, would definitely recommend this little cafe for a nice breakfast or brunch
Neo
I want to rate higher for their good food (we had pork belly and seafood pie) and good coffee (they use st ali beans, which is very lenient for baristas, only VERY BAD place can stuff it up) but it took them 50mins to 1hr to serve it when it wasnt busy. I think they forgot to put in our orders and there is no apology said to us. People who came after us already had their meals and left, we were still there with no food until i asked where our order is. Maybe we were just unlucky

Fitzrovia is an all-day dining restaurant overlooking Albert Park. The owners’ Paul Jewson and Marco Pugnaloni's ethos is to create luxe comfort food, inspired by provincial Italian and British cuisine - Think big flavours with rough edges.  Fitzrovia's slow roast lamb shoulder was comfort food at its best. We loved the creamy organic sweet potato mash served alongside beautiful confit onions, spring onion, crispy candy striped beetroot, and pea and mint jus.

The gnocci here is really amazing!! Not too heavy and the flavours of the mushrooms ?!?! omg I want more!! also the gnocci was seered or pan fried a bit which gave a very interesting taste. We also tried the rocket lettuce with pumpkin.. I think I could have just eaten that as a meal by itself. All in all a fantastic venue to share a meal with friends and the staff are great and helpful.

I haven't tried any other meals, but I always order 1 thing there which is the creme brulee french toast. It was really good. The combination of savory bacon, sweet creme brulee, crunchy walnuts, and banananess banana was just perfect. Perfect spot for brunch.

St Kilda is well known for its relaxing ambience and chilled-out vibes by the beach. A few cool bars/restaurants occupy the beachfront scene, giving diners a meal with a view. But, that’s not all that St Kilda is known for. Carlisle Street and Fitzroy Street, both within walking distance of the beach, are saturated with cool, urban cafes, bars, restaurants and ice cream stores to feed the masses.

A top place to stop for a bite to eat. A few glasses of prosecco with some truffled polenta chips, mushroom gnocchi and calamari salad. Great service with food out in a matter of minutes. <br/><br/>The polenta chips were a tad salty (personal preference) and the other two dishes were perfect. <br/><br/>See you for break tomorrow morning!
