Review No 18 Ramen - St Kilda

Loved the chicken karage here. It was so fresh. Am not too sure about the ramen though. The menu looked so yummy.

Great ramen. Small selection, but just ask and they will make one to your liking.

You can tell this is an authentic ramen shop when there are Japanese comics on the wall. As well as the choice of sake and how they make their broth etc.. of course.

This place feels oddly nostalgic and comfortable I absolutely loved it. Food is worth the price. It was very filling but very cheap. I hope to visit again soon~ Shout out to the server with the grey dress she was amazing.

The Ramen has great quantity and flavour. Surprisingly there are only 3 types of Ramen in the menu. Other great options such as karage and curry rice are also available. Quality over quantity. Extremely polite staff and quick service.

I do not understand the hype about this ramen place. I would NOT rate this guys as a ramen specialist. Tried Ohako and its merely an improvised packet noodle with some veggies presented rather pretty. I wouldnt recommend this guys to someone who come here for a "ramen". Two stars as it was barely edible.

Little ramen shop with friendly service. The Tori Karaage is great, however the original ramen is mediocre. It came lukewarm and the soup base lacks depth.

This place is great, I've worked my way through every ramen dish from here and it's definitely one of my favourite ramen places in Melbourne. Well priced and authentic, having just come back from Japan it's nice to have somewhere close to home to remind me of it. I get the feeling this place is often overlooked as it's not in a high exposure location and is rarely busy (at least until everyone finds out about it), however I highly recommend you try it. The staff are also very friendly.

With all the covid closures for dine in, the ramen cravings are so real. Pros: flavour of ramen, toppings, noodles and renkon chips. We requested uncooked ramen noodles which is great for a chewier texture. Cook for 1 minute in boiling water at home. Cons: the texture of the ramen soup is a bit weird. Thick, though just add some boiling water and it's much better and no flavour is lost. But grainy, like dehydrated potatoes. If you have a really fine strainer, I would recommend to use this before adding all of the other ingredients. Also the bamboo shoots could do with a rinse, they are quite sweet. These minor changes and I would give it at least a 4.

Great ramen as well as tasty Agadashi tofu and karaage donburi. Service is always excellent.

Food was amazing! I’d highly recommend venturing out of the house to eat at this cool little restaurant as opposed to getting the food delivered - the quality will never be the same! I was disappointed to see so many bad reviews from Uber eats users :( this place is amazing, the service is great, it’s value for money if you get a set and the food is delicious. Highly rate & recommend to go and eat here!

Ordered UberEats for dinner from here to satisfy our ramen craving, and found it to be average. We ordered the chicken karaage, ol’ skool ramen and ohako ramen. The soup and noodles were packed separately, however they were not labelled in any way which was annoying.
The chicken was pretty dry and flavourless, and the sauce was more of an egg salad than a sauce... they didn’t really complement each other. The ramen broth also got pretty salty near the end, it could have been better balanced. The noodles were nice and chewy though, and there was a good amount of toppings provided.

Have ordered ramen from here via Deliveroo in the past and it was fine but really disappointed this time. Tiny serve of teriyaki don for $16! The ramen is good but you're better off eating in.

We wouldn't have known about this Ramen place had we not entered it by mistake.

Famished and tired we just randomly entered this eatery without thinking much, and with the hope that we would just satiate our hunger ordered a Hells Red Ramen and Katsu Curry with Rice (Large)

Everything inside the bowl tasted fresh, yummy, and was well cooked. Until the last morsel we couldn't stop raving about the food.

They also have a steal deal @ Dollars 30 per person (or 28) wherein you get to choose one entre, one ricepaper roll and a mains..

Portions could have been better but no complains as you are paying for quality.

Attendant was very friendly and accommodating.

My friend suggested to check it out. We ordered seafood ramen, chicken ramen, kutsu and karoogee. Loved the ramen. It was bursting with lot of elements of flavour. The chicken was ok. Will gladly come back. The waitress was very friendly and super attentive and ambience was very relaxing. Can’t ask for more. Delightful experience

Food: huge variety of choices. From ramen to donburi and curry rice. Amazing choices tbh. Ramen it’s ok, the curry rice is great tasting yet could be better. Love all the appetiser just skip the takoyaki. The okonomiyaki on stick is so good same goes to the cream croquette.

Service: Friendly lovely team. Food being served fast.

Price: Fair pricing for Japanese

Passed by this area with a friend of mine and we both craved fried chickens. We looked at the menu and decided to try out some karage chickens and seafood ramen. Food was average, ramen soup was nice but not so spectacular. Karage chicken also not bad.
Hangry, Feed Me
Had the chicken Katy's curry. Very well balanced curry and the perfect crumb on the chicken.
The others in our group had the ramen, all went down very well!

Out on a weekend lunch with my partner, Ramen wasn't what I expected compared to ones in city. Ramen shops are everywhere in Melbourne. To keep up to the standards would need more than just a brand printed seawed in the ramen.

We also ordered a few condiments however wasnt Japanese quality.. Im sorry, better around CBD or shopping centres. Service however was ok considering there was only 1 girl looking after the entire place. +1 for her effort.

Inviting shop on Fitzroy St, lunch time offers a set menu with ramen plus two sides. The signature OHAKO ramen is a creamy chicken broth with firm wavy noodles, nori, shallots, bamboo, whole egg and thinly sliced tender duck breast. Flavoursome and fulfilling. Pork gyōza is lightly fried, mild taste, while the spiced duck rolls look splendid and have a real kick when eaten. Delicious. Contemporary comfortable dining, classic mtv clips on projector and friendly staff. Great place for a ramen fix!

Ramen is pretty pricey to places I've been into the city so perhaps better to get the set meal which can be there pieces of karaage chicken a drink and ramen for 23

I had the hells ramen which was egg noodles floating in chilli oil but what was supposed to be seafood chicken and pork broth. All I tasted was chilli oil. Lots of pieces of onion with barely any chicken mince. Disappointing in terms of contents but delicious flavours.

This place is pretty cool if you are around st Kilda looking for a good ramen. They have variety of it and they also have sushi.
Try the duck sushi roll. Simply...delicious!
Ahh the most important, every 18th they sell the asahi pot just for 1.8 $
Kamna Kartik
A very cute, cosy little joint serving authentic, comforting and delicious food! I was amazed at the number of vegetarian options too. We tried the Nasu Dengaku- sliced eggplant with a really sweet glazey sauce, the Tomato Avocado Curry rice bowl- absolutely delicious, with a smooth, yummy (maggi- reminiscent) curry and creamy sliced avocado, as well as the Miso no possible veg ramen bowl- superbly soft tofu, ramen noodles, and a delicious umami broth!

Definite must visit place! Easy on the pocket too.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of food in this Ramen joint. The Ohako is probably my second favourite ramen in Melbourne while the gyozas and sushi are flavorsome and fresh.
The interior might be the only thing that slightly lets this place down but service is always friendly and warm which more than makes up for it.

Try the Ohako.

Gyoza was fresh and delicious. Ramen was generous and full of flavour. There were plenty of vegetarian options if you are that way inclined. Lastly the staff are very friendly and attentive. Will be back for sure.

This little ramen bar situated on the main strip of Fitzroy street in St Kilda. Came in for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. The curry was nice and seasoned perfectly. The ramen was spicy and a little oily but overall still very nice. The only downside is that the noodle is too soft to my liking and lacking that chewiness. I only got 3 pieces of Karaage for my curry which I find steep for the $15 I'm paying for the dish.

Have been coming here since this place opened a little while ago, Great Ramen place, friendly staff. The food comes out quick and fresh with great broth and yummy noodles.

Points for: rich flavoursome broth, lunch special, whole egg
Visited: Tuesday late lunch.

Not sure why this shop has a lowish mark. This is one of the best ramen shops in Melbourne, and I've been to maybe 90% of the ramen-yas.
Located in central St Kilda, I was expecting this place to be run by hipsters looking to cash in on the ramen game, but it is actually run by Japanese.

Ground floor has limited seating, mostly for couples and singles, I assume upstairs has larger tables.
It does feel a bit cramped and could do with a bit of ventilation, but it's not too bad.
They have newly printed menus which are crisp and clean.

I had the Ohako, which is a thicker chicken based broth, I've not seen this option in Melbourne.
There is a good balance of fat (a requirement in ramen), which makes the broth creamier and coats the noodles and your mouth. It's lip smackingly good.
The noodles are medium thickness with a bit of a wave, looking similar to egg noodles.
It is good value at $16, with a good number of sliced duck breast, a whole egg (usually places give you a half), and bamboo.

What I also like is that you have every condiment necessary on the table, including a sesame mill, black garlic oil, and spicy miso.

The gyoza was decent as well, but nothing that blew my mind.

Will definitely be back!

Such a humble place! Went went with friends tonight who recommended here! Ramen was delicious and the lady taking care of FOH was delightful. There is nothing better than honest and flavoursome food with adorable service! Highly recommended!

I really struggle to see how a bowl of noodles, one egg and a bit of duck is worth $16.50

I love ramen and eat it a lot but I felt really let down, paying $16.50 for this so called 'deluxe' version

I'm left feeling unsatisfied, underwhelmed and overcharged.
Ed
Value 5/5. Ramen 5/5. Decor 2/5. I had the lunch special which was an original ramen and two sides for $17. The Ohako ramen, their trademark, had the most unctuous broth and springy noodles. Had I known it was this good, I would most certainly have gone with the deluxe version for another $3. The experience was only let down by the very slap-dash interior that lent zero ambience.

This local Jap ramen joint has some standard ramen dishes for $12. The rice dishes are more filling at around $14. There are no other ramen places around this area so this is the only option by default.

The food is very consistent and the soup bases with soy or chicken broth are tasty. You get only three small strips of meat, which is standard for ramen places, so it isn't too filling. You can get combos with more and this will make your meal $17-$20. Duck is the main meat in the ramen dishes and you cant get any pork.

The room is small, and they have random Western music playing in the background. A while back they had Pixar cartoons playing on the projector. This place has a surcharge on eftpos if you spend less than $15.

YUUUMMMMMOOO! We had the $23 Isakaya Set menu (beer-appetizer-ramen) . We started with Akadashi Tofu which was absolutely devine! So good. That Okonomiyaki on the stick is superb! Delicious and it doesn't taste very fishy, just perfect. We had Ohako Ramen which was thick & luscious and my partner had the oldschool which was really good as well. We will definitely be back! $46 for both of us is a bargain and best $46 I've spent do far. Haha keep up the good work guys! See u real soon! :)

I was quite happy with the quality of the ramen at No 18 Ramen compared to other ramen places nearby. I've tried ramen at both Hana Sushi and Japan Inn and I'm confident that I can say that No 18 Ramen has better ramen than both those places. Don't be afraid to try the Hell's Red ramen. It's actually not that spicy. It could have been spicier! I would also recommend adding extra toppings. I will definitely come back to try the other ramen flavours.

I use to manage a very popular Korean/Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. No 18 has some absolutely Banging Ramen, highly recommend.
Shout out to the little lady that was working FOH tonight as she was busting her ass too! My partner & I loved it & we'll definitely be back.

This is my go to Uber eats delivery - I just can't get enough! Awesome flavours and generous servings - I get the miso ramen and kimchi. I am hanging out for a pork ramen option though!!

Duck chasu! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! DUCK CHASU! game changer.

One of my best ramen experiences in Melbourne. The thick chicken broth seems to have a hint of bonito in there so is simultaneously light and unctuous. Super savoury. Noodles are nice and chewy and pick up broth better than any others I have encountered here. It was kind of half way between my two favourite bowls in tokyo.

Best thing is they have confidence in their ramen. They are not giving you a replica of chain restaurant tonkotsu here, it is a bowl that shows they know exactly what they are doing.

And I cannot emphasise the duck chasu enough!!!

Service was also lovely. Don't listen to the bad reviews they were for the donburi and takeaway. Eat the ramen fresh in restaurant and you will be blown away!

Worst "ramen" ever, can't even call it ramen, there is no broth, just a reduced chicken jus, poured onto over cooked noodles.

I would have been more satisfied with 99c mi goreng from Safeway then this, $40+ meal for two. Completely irredeemable and a disgrace to all ramen shops in Melbourne. I should have known better when they didn't offer tonkatsu broth.

Avoid at all costs, this is not a ramen shop.

This awesome little ramen house was a brilliant unexpected find in my local neighbourhood of St Kilda. I just had to try the duck sushi as it's a one-of-a-kind dish that I've never seen before. Like me, the chef must be a fan of duck too as it appears elsewhere on the menu - which for a change is nice and compact instead of a folder containing page after page of choices. I also had the Ol'Skool Deluxe Ramen with duck which was packed with complex flavours and quality ingredients. All up it cost $20 for the sushi, ramen and a drink. Fantastic value considering the high quality of the dishes. Lastly, all the staff were very helpful, polite and efficient. I can't wait to go back for more delicious ramen at this unique little Japanese restaurant!
Other pros:
- Licenced
- EFTPOS/Credit Card facilities
- Vegetarian options
- Gluten-free options

Excellent. Delicious and healthy. Vegetarian and pork-free options. Such a great surprise and really friendly service. I'll be a regular for sure.

Sorry to say this was not nice at all. We ordered home delivery and mine was inedible. Salmon Teriyaki Don consisted of over cooked salmon and a glug of rice, and very little sauce. Other dishes were just ok, I couldn't recommend ordering home delivery for No 18 Ramen St Kilda.

Great food!! Very tasty and good service. Order the signature noodle deluxe.

This minimum of 140 characters for reviews are stupid. This comment is not connected to the restau

Came over due to curiosity and some laziness to cook dinner or drive away... expectations weren't too high but we walked away happy. Ordered the signature ramen and the old school ramen. Broth was good and tasty, and definitely different from other ramen places. Better or worse? It's hard to tell. I would rate the signature ramen 7/10. The pleasant surprise was the duck sushi (finally a place where they did something different from the same old rolls offered at the supermarket or overpriced/overrated restaurants). Beautifully presented and very delicate flavours, I would come to this place again only to have more duck sushi. Staff was very friendly and food came within minutes, I hope they get EFTPOS asap. I would recommend this place.
