Review Quan 88 - St Kilda

Exactly what I was looking for in pho and delicious, generously-stuffed summer rolls 🥰 really enjoyed my meal here!
Graham Rodda
Delicious food and generous serves, so easy to over order. Great dishes for sharing. Very hospitable and welcoming.
Peter Barras
Delicious and great atmosphere. Completely full but still able to fit a table of 3. Spring rolls, chicken pho and beef pho. So good.
Omid Master
Great service and great food this is what a Chinese restaurant should be
Tony Strong
Waited for service too long, after trying to attract attention. Personally, had the salt and pepper squid. Tough as shoe leather, obviously deep frozen and dry, which reflected the quality of service. Very poor experience and food, shameful!

Food is great but service is better! We found a fly in our vermicelli rice noodles and they offered to replace it and strike it off our menu immediately, and the service itself is fast. Their food is authentic Vietnamese and certainly one of the best places to satisfy your Vietnamese cravings! They also have an upstairs place for functions that'll be on the top of my list for future events.

Visited this place for the first time. Nice ambience and tasty food. Loved crispy chicken noodles.

Great value Lunch Special. Satisfied my Vegetarian friend and I enjoyed the sizzling plate of rice and Mongolian beef. Friendly service.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in St Kilda. It's so affordable and has the freshest most delicious vegetarian/vegan meals. My family and I order from Quan 88 about once a week and we're so glad we were referred to them by a friend because everything we've had has been so good.
Dani Boudville
Great service by staff at the restaurant. The food is delicious. Don't need to go to the city or preston anymore!
FoodHedonist
Place is quite noisy. I love Vietnamese food but the food here is on the sweeter side. It could be because of the food we ordered, not sure. All the three dishes were quite sweet.

Quan 88 is a local of mine so thought it was about time I give it a review. I find it to be super consistent in the quality of their food and service. Our meals always come out quickly and we've never ordered anything that we haven't enjoyed.

My highlights in terms of dishes that I usually order are the Grilled Chicken & Lemongrass, the Combination Fried Rice and the Rice Vermicelli with Chicken. I love that they serve the dishes with a variety of lots of fresh veges. The flavours are great, and the portions are quite big.

I'd definitely recommend Quan 88 if you're looking for a casual restaurant for a dinner with friends - there's always good vibes and food to be had!
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
My partner and I came here on a Wednesday night, quiet late. It’s located in the busy heart of st kilda.

This cafe has a good reputation, I was not blow away by the food there was good and bad. We had two entree,1st san choy bow it was so tasty, the second one was chicken satay, my partner said it wasn’t as good as the first time he had it. It wasn’t as crunchy this time.

For the mains we had a stir fry flat noodle with chicken, it was nice with a kind of gravy,

The second main was flaming pork. The presentation was amazing. But when I opened the tin foil it was just sweet and sour pork. I was expecting something totally different.

We shared a deep fried ice cream, it was nice and perfect to share.

The restaurant is huge, it is two levels and is well designed. I found the star where not to helpful when it came to the menu, I asked a few questions and they lacked the knowledge :-( other then that, I would go back to try other things :-)
Jumpingjojo99
I like Quan 88 because it has a huge menu and appears to be a fusion of Chinese and Vietnamese, so you can order either of these cuisines depending on what you are in the mood for. The service is efficient, the prices are cheap, and the food is tasty. I would recommend the Vietnamese rice paper rolls, Singapore noodles and creme brûlée for dessert. An easy eat if you are in the St Kilda area.
Food Lover
I had the chilli fish and roast duck soup- my fiancé had the san Choi bau and beef pho, the soup was wonton soup with some old duck thrown in and the chilli fish was pedestrian at best- frozen fish bites. Could not finish it, oh I also had coconut rice- the best thing all night. Service very slow 1 hour to get mains other tables walked out after 45 minutes waiting for entree. We really wanted to like this place. Oh well. ....

We like Quan 88, it is our place for comfort food. We have never disliked anything that we have ordered here. It's always buzzing with crowd and it can get a bit noisy but the food is so good.

We are new to the area and one night had a craving for a bowl of Pho. Hopped on Zomato and found this place within walking distance and boy, are we impressed. Got there, we’re seated immediately and orders were taken. Got the Spring Rolls, Rice Paper rolls and two bowls of Pho - one beef & one chicken. Not expecting the size of the bowls of soup we had to take half our meals home! The broth is delicious and perfectly flavoured. It comes with little add ons like chilli, hoisin, herbs and bean shoots. Would definitely come back! 🍲🥢

Went on a busy Saturday night. Took 1 hour 45 mins before food arrived, and one dish never arrived. Really disappointing. Wouldn't recommend.
Always Hungry
Great food, nice decor, average service.
I came here with my family and had really nice rice paper rolls and a vermicelli salad. Everyone was happy with their food.
The waiters were nice but didn't seem to listen to our order and made a few mistakes, but overall it was a nice lu bbc have experience.

Great ambiance! Very friendly staff. It was full house during our visit but we didnt wait too long for the food. The rare beef salad and Sliced beef pho is a must. They give generous amount of beef. Flamming pork was ok. But it was different from what I expected. Best asian restaurant around St Kilda.
Suburb Review
SUPRISINGLY GREAT..

Packed on a Friday night.. I was expecting the food to come out really slow because of how busy it was, but seriously came out within 10mins WOW. The papaya salad was delicious and reminds me of Vietnam. Will definitely be back to try the pho.
Tony
Sister restaurant of the one in Richmond. Does not disappoint! Had a mix of specials. Started off with basic prawn crackers. From here we got beef in leaves and spring rolls. No better way of having spring rolls than in lettuce leaves with mint. We followed this with prawns on eggplant. One of my favourites. Then not traditional, Peking duc. Most average meal. Serves us right for ordering this on Vietnamese restaurant. The insides are more refined than Richmond and better fitted out. Having said that prefer the basic charm of Richmond. Food was solid

I had previously ordered take away here after being in St Kilda for a while and I have never been disappointed. There are a few interesting dishes on the menu including fried beef- one of those dishes you must try once. The spring rolls and wontons are always delicious as is pretty much everything ive smashed down on the couch!

Having got the man flu mid week I thought there is only one fix- a nice warm bowl of pho. The flavour was amazing, the beef- generous in its serving and good cuts, and also noodles a plenty. The addition of chilli sauce and also oyster sauce on the side was great. My lips were tingling, my mouth burning but also had its tastebuds dancing, head sweating and more importantly, the belly, warmed with goodness.

Im glad I finally decided to eat in. The ambience is warm and inviting and was a bustling place. The service was welcoming although at times they did seem a bit run off their feet.

Even if it doesn't cure the man flu, with food this good it's worth a crack right?

Geoff
Must be the best Vietnamese/Chinese in the St Kilda and surrounding suburbs.
The food is outstanding. Try the Flemming Pork. Sounds awful but presents and eats beautifully. Management and staff are cheerful and act like they want to be there. A group of us, a willing old bunch, have taken to regular Friday nights. Interestingly, by 7.30pm the place is chockas with boisterous, but behaved, younger groups who also seem to be regulars. And enjoying themselves.
If your not going to book try to get there before 7pm. But do it. My rating of 4.5 is based on comparison with many other similar food style restaurants. I don't do 5's
Geoff Birtles

Mo pho

I love this gem of a restaurant the staff are so up best

The pho is just really flavourful and good for the soul!

Flaming pork not to
Mention it's byo
Whittyworth768
Have ordered take away from here twice and the Pho was amazing both times, arrived hot and fresh and quickly and comes with all the ad-ons you get when you eat in a place like this (which a lot of places skip on with take away). Would have rated higher but I haven't been in the actual restaurant.
Hovette Manu
Popped in here mid week and had a nice dinner. Massive menu and the food came very quickly (too quickly?) and was tasty. Large portions too. Nice place worth a visit
Best Bear
We went to this place for my birthday. The flavours and depth of taste were excellent.Always busy, you would usually need to book a table as the place is usually fully.Overall, I would highly recommend this place for great Vietnamese food.
Michael Campbell
Had a relaxing Tuesday night with wife and kids. Service, as always, was crisp and attentive. Pho was lovely and just spicy enough. Very good value for money. And left with a full tummy!
C U Jimmy
Great Vietnamese restaurant with all the classic dishes on the menu.
Great friendly and helpful staff with prompt service.
Very busy but never felt overcrowded.
Will go back again for sure.
Emma Miller
Best beef pho I have had in a long time! Prawn spring rolls also is a must have as is delicious! Perfect place to sit and enjoy lunch/dinner. Fantastic customer service, food delivered within ten minutes from ordering (was a very very busy night for them too!) will definitely be going back đź‘Ś
La Ola Es Mia Cocina.
Limited menu and this is the second time I've been here and they've screwed up our order.
Friendly but not efficient enough.

Great pho but will not return for a 3rd visit.

Just came here for the first time for a late night feed and catch up with some girls from work. Finding parking around the area is a real challenge but not surprising as the place is located near Acland St.

Ordered the hotpot veggie bowl (soy version) with rice and it was amazing. Eggplant has never tasted so good along with a good mix of other vegetables. One of the girls ordered the coconut version of the veggie bowl which was also really nice.

Another tried the vermicelli bowl - also good and some Mongolian beef which was amazing. Staff were friendly and service/food generally prompt. They don't do split bill though so be prepared to bring some cash or transfer money and whip out the calculator lol.
Shazzamataz
Prawn Papaya salad was spicy and delicious, barramudi was fresh and tasty. Service was OK, would definitely try the one on Victoria Road for lunch on a work day
Luke And Hannah
One of the better Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne. Here we tried the chicken ribs with 88 special sauce, which were delicius and well-marinated. Our favourite was the pepper beef which was perfect for winter weather. We also tried the prawns which was also well-cooked. The staff were helpful and welcoming as well. The restaurant is spacious and lovely too.
Glorious Food Melbs
The food was nice, not amazing. The service was the big downfall here though. We were pretty much ignored the entire time, and the waiter didn't really seem to know the menu....
GandR
Great little find. Awesome food, great selection, food was out really quickly even though they were packed. Got to try the crispy beef. Will definitely be back.
Jess
We came here before a concert at the Palais. Great food at very reasonable prices. Service was also good! Would definitely return and recommended others to try it out.
Melbournefood
I had the sweet and sour pork and my wife the vermichelli pork salad. Was really nice and inspired me to make the nuoc-cham dressing at home!
Alex Bogart-King
Good quality and authentic viet restaurant with the menu you would expect. Speedy service and even speedier take away. Love it.

Just needs a deliver option and I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Ellied
Great local Vietnamese restaurant. They do the expected menu, with attention to detail in quality ingredients and foods. A great place to grab takeaway and head to the Botanic Gardens for a picnic or the beach. It is often very busy inside at dinner time.
Phoenix
I have visited Quan 88 many times. It is a solid, consistent, busy restaurant with friendly staff and good food. Portions are, more often than not, over sized; so skip lunch if you're heading here. Tram 96 to Acland Street (last stop) and they're just around the right-hand corner.
Ann
I was craving some soup and the BBQ pork and wonton laksa hit the spot. Vibrant flavours, perfect serving size and fast service. Great place with a wide variety of Vietnamese classics.
Jez Fred
Awesome food at silly cheap prices. One of our favourite restaurants. Make sure you order prawn Spring rolls, beef in mint leaves and quail!
Laurella-felicia
Amazing satay! Service was prompt and friendly. :)

Am a regular here they have one of the best beef phos in melbourne. The vermicelli noodles are amazing too. Am on first name basis with most of the staff there great service so glad there's finally a Vietnamese restaurant in st kilda
Vegan Foodie Boss
Absolutely delicious. Consistently great food, good service and they are happy to cater for vegans. They have a good wine list too.
My favourite dish is the green papaya salad. This could be my favourite dish in all of Melbourne.
Conisseur
Walked in off the street as the place was buzzing with people and loved it. Authentic Vietnamese food here full of flavour. Had the seafood laksa with rice noodles which was sensational.
We will be backđź‘Ť

And now I need to call the credit card company and file a dispute... geez.

As with most St Kilda faire, it's always worth a kick to try each place at least once. The same cannot be said for Quan 88.

Food was... okay. Came super-quick though, which was especially good to be able to get the kids fed quickly. Except that quick enthusiasm feels like you're getting rushed through each and every plate they bring. Not done? Here's the next two or three courses.

Price-wise, they are on par with their Acland Street brethren... but here lay my problem: they don't take American Express, and also (without warning, unsolicited and unadvertised) charge a fee to use credit cards in general.

This fact is why I have to call my bank. When I disputed this with the waiter, I was told it was "store policy". Further discussion and come to find out, the only mention is a little 10cm sign up the back of the restaurant... in a place that no customer actually ever needs to go - not even walked past if you need to go to the loo! Opportunities given to fix this 'oversight' at two occasions upon presentation of two different cards proved fruitless.

Will not be returning... and the bank can deal with them.
Bayside Epicurean
Good value Vietnamese food with a decent menu and friendly staff. The grilled chicken and vermicelli is excellent with a cold Saigon or 333, and the phở is as good as you will find in the suburbs.
The whole feel of the place is quite authentic - cool tranquil, no glam/plastic/ostentatious decor, but with tortuously saccharine 80s pop on repeat - if they fix the tunes it would be xuất sắc!
Mike Sinclair
Good quality Vietnamese influenced food. Service a touch chaotic but that's part of the fun isn't it? Steamed fish with ginger and soy was unctuous and has real flavour. Staff did their best to accommodate our gluten free dining companion.
Steph
Very cheap and busy little place. Not many good Asian restaurants around Saint Kilda but this one is a great pick. Staff are very quiet and friendly. The place is quite loud so don't expect to go there for a quiet dinner. Huge selection of food on the menu! Have been here a few times and all food has always been great.
Rob
What is the use of having a takeaway menu when the staff on the phone can't speak or understand English ie noodle combination with garlic order. I hung up after being transferred for the third time
Helen
Food, staff and service are all fabulous. I can recommend their lunch specials as they are the best in St Kilda. Spring rolls and Laksa soup are excellent.
Bree_coleman
Delicious, quick and friendly service.

Great for take away as well as eat in - warning on the portion size, they are massive!

Lunch on sunday afternoon. Indisputably the best vietnamese food I have ever had. The staff was good, preparation was quick and food was delicious. We tried singapore noodles, chicken schezwan and vegetable hotpot. The food was finger-licking good, decent quantity and good ambience. The place has BYO wine, i'm sure going back next time for that.
Deirdre Hinchcliffe
Grabbed some takeaway last night. Very friendly staff and quick service. Food was nice although could have had a bit more flavour. Would try again next visit.

Firstly, you will feel like your cheating- there's something slightly covert about enjoying the authenticity and pricing of a Victoria St restaurant without any ashen meth-addicts trying to see you drugs on the way there. Quan 88 St Kilda is casual. It's also awesome. Always busy, Friday and Saturday dinner time you may have to wait for table. We like to go early- get a bigger table to the side. You'll need the bigger table for all the food. Must haves are the Vietnamese Salad (slaw) with rare beef. We are also huge fans of anything with snow pea and Chinese mushroom. The wine list is not sommelier devised, but for the wine-buff a BYO option is available. Relaxed, fun and really tasty. Two thumbs up.

I have pho all the time (in fact just had it earlier this week) but the pho here was way too salty! It's like somebody forgot they already put in the salt and so put salt in again or something...
Michaela Foodie
Served my friend and I right at the end of the night when I think they really wanted to close, so thank you for that! Food was delicious, excellent value for money and reminded me of some of the food which I ate not too long ago in Vietnam. Will definitely come back and try a few more dishes.
Stacey Day
I loved the food we had at this place it was all very tasty. I had the wonton soup and Singapore fried noodles they were both nice. My sister had salmon and hers was delicious too. There was a hiccup with the eftpos machine which wasn't working. It was a bit annoying and I hope they fix the problem with it. I had to go to an atm and that day in particular was freeeezing!
Angel Putritama
Been here regularly. The beef pho was amazeballlss! And the waiters and waitress really friendly. Good atmosphere as well. Lunch special is the reason why we came here! Such a great deal!

Fresh cooking not being done. As a regular I eas so dissappointed that many of the items on the menu was not available
The kitchen will not get it that we want fresh food and not dishes that are prepared . Now they will merely heat up the previously partly cooked dishes and not make them when they are ordered . They have lost my pAtronage after all these years
Ps watch for waiter bryon: Byron he can be quite nasty if you don't agree with him
Facebook User
Cheap and fast pho. 12 dollars for a delicious chicken or beef pho...cant go wrong. helpful and happy staff makes this a regular cheap dinner haunt for me and my friends
Georgemichaels
Great food , great atmopshere. Buzzing restaurant with good food !
Kenny Roujin Ocampo
Bad experience. I was asking for tomato rice is a popular Vietnamese dish and the waiter said this is a Malaysian restaurant.

I'm so upset, he thinks I'm dumb.

I've been in this place few times, there is no "Malaysian" word in the menu, it's all "Vietnamese"
Facebook User
Bad experience. I have been to Quan 88 many times. However tonights experience was bad and i will not return due to a rude confrontational supervisor/manager. All other staff members were polite and helpful apart from this young man. Nor did he try to make things right. Not a happy customer at all.
Jar-Fed
Not exactly the best dish to roll on a cold winters night! At least the prawns were warm! Rice vermicelli is definitely more of a summer dish, but it was fresh and tasty and the prawns were cooked to perfection. There were a few sprigs of mint but nothing that delivered a WOW flavor.
Loves A Spud
Disappointing. Service was woeful - it wasn't that busy.

Entree arrived before drinks (san choi bao which had almost cold meat & was totally tasteless)

Would recommend the beef in mint leaf, that was delicious & well presented

Duck pancakes - duck completely overcooked & really chewy. Awkward presentation.

Spicy rice - not spicy by any means

We requested chilli to be added to 2 of the 4 mains - this was not done. Sauces for the cashew chicken & cubed beef were gluggy. Chicken wings were really greasy & the sauce was much to sweet to attempt half the dish.

Worst part - no Vietnamese pancake served after 7pm. Awful decision!!

Good drink prices but won't be rushing back.
Stephen.digby
Relaxing, delicious and affordable. Relaxing and spacious interior. Food: spring rolls $9 excellent; San choi bao $7.50 bland; chicken with veg &cashews $17.90 delicious and generous; prawn and pork Laksa $6 rich and spicy. Staff very polite and efficient.
Paul Jewson
Great value neighbourhood Vietnamese. Fast, tasty and value for money
Lois
Lois. Six of us eat at Quan 88 last week and we were disappointed. One diner had allergies and although the waiter who was good was unable to come up with anything but a rather bad, gluggy, chinese type stir fry. The other dishes were passable not great.
When it was time to pay a credit card was presented and we were told that 2% would be added to the bill - this is unacceptable the card was a Visa - this is the first time in a restaurant that this has happened.
None of us will be returning.
Vanessa.pirsl
Nice dinner option. We had a small group booking for 12, but on arrival we discovered that there was no booking for us. Promptly we had a table set up and menus presented. The food was good and the service was reasonably prompt. Nice place to visit when looking for a reasonable place to eat. Will definitely be back.
Happy Days
Yummy & quick Service. This place is great, duck pancakes are yummy. Overall a great meal and a very reasonable price. Also allows you to BYO if you want to keep your costs down. Would recommend
Alicia
Great food in this busy cafe however our mains were forgotten which dampened our spirits. Overall delicious, service needs improvement.
Shelley Green
Good service. Friendly staff who were amazing with a toddler. Food was great as well. So nice not having to go to Richmond for good Vietnamese.
Awolaussie82
POOR SERVICE - MEDIOCRE FOOD. If you want the food you ordered to arrive, or even all of the food you ordered to arrive, don't come here.

When we sat down, we noticed a guy walk up to the counter and tell them to cancel his order because he was leaving and was sick of waiting for his meal. Unfortunately, the service we received wasn't much better.

All of the dishes came out really slowly, then one main came out and not the other. We shared the main and waited 10 minutes and they started to clear all our plates away. We then asked about our other dish, at which point they shouted at each other a few times, then came back 5 minutes later and told us they were all out of duck, but we could order something else. At this point, we just couldn't be bothered any more. Really disappointing. They gave us a 10% discount, which was almost as insulting as the 10 cent tip I left.

The food we did have was OK. I would eat again, but wouldn't go out of my way. Certainly due to service though, they wont be getting my custom again. Too many good places to eat in Melbourne to have deal with poor service.
Wendy Leach
Great Food. Food is great and that is why I keep going back because the service has a lot to desire. However they are always friendly, but they do get orders wrong now and again so don't expect great service, but expect great cheap food.
Alex
Rudest staff member I've encountered in a long, long time.. After the lady who took our take-away order made a mistake and added an extra dish, we were subjected to a barrage of abuse about how it was our fault, when it just wasn't.

I don't understand how people with this attitude can run a restaurant. Unbelievable.

Just staggeringly rude.
Fish
We had a group of 10 gather for dinner and these guys were very accommodating. We had a few babies with us and it wasn't an issue as they are fairly family friendly. We decided to share a bunch of dishes as the menu was huge and we wanted a taste of it all. The waiter took our entree order but for some reason wouldn't take our main course order at the same time, no big deal though!
The San choy bao was solid and very tasty but hard to eat as they always are. Rice paper rolls were a hot and made better by the dipping sauce. Spring rolls were standard.
For main we has chicken, pork (great), fish (super) and fried rice. We were full and very satisfied with the quality of the good.
The wine list was also decent and the had out favourite Red Hill Pinot noir.
At $30 a head it's pretty hard to beat. I'll be back to try the Pho soon.
Stace Bianca Lenthall
Just love this place and thank god they have taken over tien tien. Beautiful restaurant, friendly and tasty tasty! Love the pho which is a weekly favourite! Always give you a drink while waiting for take away and generally hae great service. Highly recommend :)
Totally.b
Always friendly service and quality food. Absolutley love the vegetarian spring rolls. We'll continue to come here regularly :)

Full of flavor proper Vietnamese food with a very friendly helpfull service and fast serving of dishes

Worth a visit. We had a late midweek lunch here @3pm and were only diners. Pho was quite good, but not great. Rice paper rolls excellent, spring rolls very good. Will go back to try more of the menu.
Service was pleasant.
Lactic0610
Yummy Pho soup. Already had the traditional pho noodle soup two times this month! Fabulous flavor soup and nice cut tender beef slice, great for the coming winter! Staff are friendly as well.
Mingwang12000
A new favourite. Finally, a well priced, BYO, Vietnamese & Chineses restaurant in St Kilda. We ate there twice last week and I think that will become a regular occurrence if they keep everything the same and don't raise prices for food or corkage, as it is just right how it is. The place is packed with locals and I expect the place to go really well. Apart from a very small handful of St Kilda restaurants, the bulk of the eateries cater for the tourist market and buckle throughout winter due to their unwillingness to lure locals in, BYO at $7-10 a bottle is just rude. A couple of dollars per head/bottle is an automatic tip and equals bums on seats.
Some Like It Hot
Happy with food but don't clear tables whilst we are eating!. Came with my parents. We ordered a mix of the spring rolls which were lovely and chicken satay. However, the obsessive and annoying plate clearing started approximately 60 seconds after our food came to the table and even made me drop some of my satay on the floor because of the distraction! We then had the pork sweet and sour, Singapore noodles, Vietnamese chicken curry and the very delicious hot and spicy crispy chicken ribs. We were finishing our prawn crackers and dipping into the sauce and had to forcefully say No when they were still trying to clear our table while we were still eating. Sort that out and it'll be great!
Johno
Crispy beef is a winner ! So delicious , the salt and pepper squid was tender and not over battered.
Wayne Phillips
Quan 88: 9 out of 10. We went for light lunch last Saturday, as we were going out for dinner. The beef with mint leaves was so good we ordered another, altho' it was slightly expensive with only 5 small pieces for $7. Vietnamese salad with prawns was excellent and a decent-sized portion. Took a bottle of Smith & Shaw Sav Blanc (Adelaide Hills) from the bottle shop around the corner in Acland St. Corkage was $2:50 per person. Will definitely go back again next time we're in Melbourne. We're from S.A.
Scorpio
Too bloody delicious! Had the curry puffs and a tofu stir fry awesome can't wait to come back.
Lauren
Food so fresh ! Fell in love with the duck pancakes.
Sam Difference
Good for us Mexicans!. Quan 88 has been a long time favourite place of mine to go for cheap and cheerful Vietnamese, but it always meant trekking from St Kilda to Vic Street.
Now that the St Kilda Quan has opened: no more trekking!
And it's filling a much needed niche in the lack of good Vietnamese south of the river (and I'm not counting Hanoi Hannah or Miss Chu!)
Overall the fit out is nice, albeit noisy with all the concrete flooring and acoustics of the space. The menu is almost identical (down to the misspellings!) the prices may be a bit steeper on a few items. I think the portion sizes are a little smaller, but still good value for money, especially when you consider what else is on offer around this area.
Standout items: the beef in mint leaves, the rice paper rolls, the salt & pepper squid/chicken ribs, the sizzling plates, the Vietnamese coleslaw with chicken.
Sadly there's no BYO, but the wine by the glass is reasonable.
This South-side incarnation will do well...
Matt
All good. Peking duck pancakes were a highlight; moist, flavorsome and generous amount of duck. Only 1 prawn in the tom yum soup, but it was cheap so no real issue there. Will return.
Amanda Swayn
Amazing!! Best pho I have had in ages. Also beautifully fresh rice paper rolls. This is my new pho place for sure.
A Harris
Nice decor and friendly staff. I had the combination egg noodle soup which was delicious. Broth is full of favour and meat fresh and tender. My partner had the Peking duck rolls which were lovely. Food was fresh and tasted great, also only had to wait about 15 mins for food. Will definitely go again :)
Geroge
Very cheap lunch , especially vietnamese pho so delicious!
will highly recommend , thank you for coming down to st kilda we needed a vietnamese restaurant.
Ella
Terrible service. My food dis not turn up! Said they gave it to someone else by mistake...When I want to cancel, the food finallly turn up & the guy at the till arrogantly say take it ita on the house......did not even apologise!!
KatMmm
We tried a good cross section of the menu. The Vietnamese spring rolls were really tasty; the wonton soup was enjoyable, if overpriced; the chef special coleslaw was tasty, but basic; and the beef, snowpeas and mushrooms was abominable and full of MSG. The service was bad - they charged us for another table's meal, were inattentive and did not get our drink order right. Overall, a mediocre experience.
Paul
Great Restaurant. I am happy this opened up in St Kilda, great Vietnamese Chicken Coleslaw.
David
1st time here beautiful ! Will be back
Natalie
So happy that Quan 88 is in St Kilda, we are regulars at the Richmond restaurant. Portions are smaller than Richmond, and there were a few teething problems on the night we went with slow service and forgotten dishes. But we love this place and will back again soon!
Micheal
