Review The Woodfrog Bakery - St Kilda

Jason E
Used to be one of the best bakeries in Melbourne. Quality has slid since it changed ownership. Food now is mediocre. Sausage rolls as an example used to be astounding - perfectly made. Now, not great - chunks of bread and poorly mixed. Sandwiches also miss the care that went into them previously. Also seem very unorganised with service, and messy behind the counter and in the kitchen. Very different to what it used to be.

Absolutely gorgeous pastries. Found this place when I was doing a mystery picnic experience. The locals obviously knew about this place as it was quite busy. Would definitely come again

I go here very often as my local bakery and the bread, sandwiches and pastries are always great. Pretty suss on a gourmet sausage roll though, i prefer the ones from the servo! Only reason for 4 stars is because it opens quite late for a barkery. The coffee is pretty good too
Michelle C
My favourite cafe in Melbourne ☺️ Tomato and ham cheese croissant is a must, Sausage roll and chicken, leek mushroom pie is yum also!

Most of the sought after baked goods (Almond Croissants) still disappear before the lunch hour.
Elizabeth Rock
Was told that this bakery does the best pies in Melbourne and that is the 100% truth. I had the beef pie and it’s heavy in your mouth. Well worth the money spent. Will definitely be adding this bakery to my morning walks.
Steven B
Simply the best bakery in Melbourne IMHO. I come here fortnightly for breads, palmier and the weekend specials. Never disappointing, staff are lovely (especially at the early hours!) and coffee is good too.
Baking Bad Melbourne
There’s a reason Tivoli Rd Bakery are one of the best - Highly recommended paying them a visit and trying EVERYTHING

Who doesn't love a good bakery, with their fabulous breads, buns, cakes and pastries. Woodfrog Bakery is worth taking a detour for. It's not in the busy part of town, but is a short walk from Acland Street, and it's well worth it for high quality baked goods.

It's a cute and cosy little spot, with the loveliest staff; but with the current restrictions in place, I was only able to get takeaway. Settling on one of their fabulous hot cross buns and an almond croissant, I was in pastry heaven. The buns are so good, easily some of the best that I've had. I wish they were available all year around, but I have to settle for the Easter period to enjoy these soft and heavenly spiced treats.

The croissants are available year round and are equally fantastic. With a beautiful frangipane filling, and loads of almonds baked on top; these pastries are worth every calorie. Woodfrog Bakery is a great venue for picking up some delicious breads and treats for home, and is equally a lovely place for a cuppa and cake.

Best bakery in the area! There was a pretty big line on Sunday morning but staff got through everyone quickly and our coffee's were ready in no time.

The sausage roll is super tasty especially with the chutney. The muffins are delicious too but my highlight would definitely be the coffee - it's such good quality.

We came for coffee but got sucked in by the food. They have a cabinet with delicious pastries and sandwiches and rolls in it plus a limited menu. We ordered an egg and spinach tart off the menu and a prosciutto bocadillo. Both were delicious but the bread was the star. Definitely ask for relish. Take a loaf of their bread home with you. Coffee was good and the staff were excellent even though there was a queue out the door.
Love It Or Like It
One of Melbournes best sourdough . Hot cross buns delicious . Pizza with interesting toppings and flavour that works . Friendly helpful staff . I love this gem
I had the best almond croissant here!
Not cheap but is worth the $$
It’s an occasional treat, go there in the morning to have it fresh nom nom

As much as we have liked different types of scones, almond croissants, blueberry muffins, danishes, hot-cross buns, etc, we found this place slightly overrated. Service is speedy.
Brunny Girl
Nice little bakery with a great range of fresh bread. Love the sourdough. They also have a little popup shop in Elizabeth st which is very handy on the way home from work.
BananalifeEats
Lovely bakery with great vibes! I'm a huge bread fan and the bread from here is definitely on top of my list. Try their walnut baguette, it's chewy and nutty. Their olive loaf is also lovely and great with a bowl of tomato soup :)
DB4SB
Great little bakery, really fresh and tasty pastry items- they even look amazing behind the glass cabinet! Makes it so hard to choose, but coupled with a pretty darn good coffee this place is a little gem

I went to this bakery just looking for a nice baguette to make sandwiches . When I got in I saw medium size pizza squares. I bought one with cherry tomatoes and pesto. It was absolutely delicious !! Apparently, the pizza dough is romana style. Nice crust at the bottom and perfectly cooked.
I'll be back with my girlfriend , probably matching it with a nice coffee is even better.
Ahh and the baguette....nothing to say...just perfect !
Linda
Right up there in terms of bakeries. Rustic. Classic. The pastries and bread are great. Nothing fancy, but all the basics done perfectly. This place comes highly recommended.
Burgers Of Melbourne
Not a huge menu or venue, but the quality is outstanding. Breads straight from the bakery oven, shakshuka with the perfect amount of spice, pastries, salads.. you can't go wrong.
MELB JOURNAL
Hands down best bakery in the area. A great option for a quick takeaway pastry and coffee to go. You can expect a line on weekends, but I promise it moves quickly. Everything we have tried here has been an amazing artesian experience. Try the danishes!
DuckieLovesToEat
My husband and I have been here numerous of times. Our have dish? Shakshuka please. I can't fault the dish. It is beautiful. Every bite is heaven, the bread on the side is also amazing. I will definitely come back here when we are back in Melbourne. My husband was devastated when they were closed during Christmas holidays.
KatMmm
My favourite bakery in all of Melbourne. My go-to orders are the Pumpkin Bread, Olive Bread and Danishes. The staff are lovely, the coffee is solid, and the bread is reliably amazing. Oh, and the pre-prepared sandwiches are to die for. I love this place!
Jade
Love the fresh bread selection, all the food in the window and the coffee! Everyone’s lovely that work there. My go to for a quick snack a coffee or my bread for the week. Yum yum yum 💜💜💜
Shlomi
Definitely one of the top bakeries in Melbourne.
Great selection of amazing breads and pastries, delicious coffee and the best service you can get.
Peter Peters
Since La Paloma in Brunswick closed I have been looking for a place that could match their Shakshuka.

I have found that place.

$4 more but well worth it.

Great sauce with Tomato, Capsicum, I'm guessing paprika and a sprinkle of goats cheese.

Now have two reasons to make the trip to St. Kilda.

Beach 'n' breakfast.
KS
Very busy small bakery service was quite slow. Ordered almond croissant & coffee to take away. croissant was ok nothing to write home about. They need to improve the coffee that was bad with so many awesome cafes in Melbourne don't think I'll be back.
Mr_blueberry
Great bread. White and honey loaf are our favourites. Pain au chocolate are sensational. Love you the salmon Bagel. Nice place to sit interior and exterior.
TheWhiteSherpa
Very quiet little coffee shop with view on a bakery. Warm set up and fresh produces, from croissant to bread to various pastries and panini. It cannot (and possibly doesn't want to) compete with CBD fancy coffee shop, the menu is not extensive, presentation is simple and the service is very basic, but it is run with passion and love and it makes you feel welcome. Great place to buy your fresh bread!
Zardoz
Seriously good sandwiches, cakes, muffins etc. Coffee Ok. Pretty erratic service but. A small space inside that is usually full on weekends.
Athena Lee
Had the almond croissant, yummy! The staff just placed it on the plate after taking it from the display. Maybe it'd be even tastier if I asked for it to be toasted.
But if you're looking for a super buttery/ flaky croissant, this is not exactly one. Saves on your calories I guess?
Asomek
Absolutely amazing bread and hummus. We get a loaf of the soir and rye caraway with a couple tubs of hummus. It never lasts very long, as we can't stop eating it 😁
Haven't tried the actual food there but it looks delicious.
Kiarr
It's unfortunate that me and my friends do like the product. However every time we've gone in the atmosphere and service is horrendous. They only treat 'regulars' with respect, and when anyone else comes in they are impatient and rude. Leaving new customers uncomfortable. It's happened too many times, won't go back.
Camila
Hands down my favourite bakery in Melbourne. Its been consistant for number of years now and their almond croissant is amazinggg but need to get there early as they sell out quick on the weekends.
Maddie Kingham
Got a cheeky take-away croissant today to treat myself for the 30 minutes of exercise I'd done in the morning. Croissant was delicious and buttery and had lots of layers. Pretty happy with it. The service was quick and friendly plus I think the girl who served me might have actually been french! There were lots of nice looking breads on offer as well 👌🏼
Chris W.
Found myself south of the river and had heard great things about this bakery. Customer service on Saturday morning left a lot to be desired. The staff had a terrible attitude and obviously felt inconvenienced spending a weekend morning serving me and my wife. My wife's pain au chocolate was filled with a meagre amount of chocolate at best. Although the bread had a wonderful crusty texture, it had a processed feel to it and did not warrant it's price tag.
Leon
Love this place delicious bread, pastries and coffee . Recommendation is the baked eggs or keep it simple with toast and spreads. Gets quite busy on the weekend.
Julycheee
Yes there's an ever present queue (half a dozen customers) for this tiny bakery with limited seating, but turnover is quick and lots of people are there for takeaway, so don't be intimated if you want to eat in - free seating will appear! The staff are incredibly friendly. If you're after some bread, the tables have a huge range of spreads for you to pick from (look on other tables too). We had the salmon bagel and the pastrami toasted sandwich and some pastries. The bagel bread was lovely, it was really soft and fluffy inside. The pickles were also unreal and gave it such an edge! Unfortunately for a salmon and cream cheese bagel, there was only a sliver of both which I couldn't taste over the rocket which was three quarters of the bagel. I admit to picking most of the rocket out so I could taste the meager filling. The pastrami toasted sandwich was delicious! The cheese was wonderful, and the balance of pastrami, pickles and warm cheese was perfect. Plus the toast was lightly buttered on the outside! I actually didn't like the pastries as much. The danish was okay. The croissant pastry was crisp and fluffy, but it tasted just slightly bitter on the outside, and the overall taste was very bland, as if there wasn't enough salt/sugar or the butter was weak...?
William Hasnever
OMG the chocolate croissant here rocks. The coffee is nice and they have some good food options. I've never had bad service here of left without someone behind the counter smiling at me. The lack of gluten free options is a shame, and in today's Melbourne unacceptable in my opinion, but for the masses who can eat wheat this place should impress. Worth stopping in for sure.
Andy T Opazo
Excellent bread bakery, coffee and sandwiches! Great atmosphere if you chose to sit in and eat their breakfast selections - they keep toasters and jams on the tables for you to use. I get my weekly bread supply for here :)
Donita
Love their danish.. so divine.. i think it's the best danish i ever eat.. :) love their almond croissant too, not overly sweet like the other famous one.
BonBonV
Good coffee, excellent bread and pastries. There's often a queue but mainly for take outs. I've never had trouble getting a table. The only non-patisserie dish they serve is Shakshouka and I've had better in other places but the coffee and baked goods are well worth trying out. Treat yourself.
Miss Smith
Everything here is amazing, I can never decide what to have. The pizza squares are always delicious as are the croissants and baguettes. Lovely, friendly staff.
Simmyeats.Melb
I have been coming here for a while now after a recommendation from a friend. The fruit toast is the best I have bought from a bakery and the pumpkin bread... wow wee! It is pricey compared to other bakeries but you pay for what you get and it is worth every cent.
Foodie Lover
Do yourself a favour and visit for the best croisants in St Kilda, if not Melbourne! Seriously! We went midweek and were able to score a table inside , where you can see through to the bakery action out the back. The shop is busy with regulars coming to purchase bread, croissants and coffee to go. I ordered the shakshuka (baked eggs with tomato, capsicum, herbs and feta). We also had to get an almond croissant. The photos say it all. Yes it did taste as good as it looked. If I wasn't watching my figure, I could have ordered one of everything from the pastry cabinet. The danishes looked amazing! Staff and service is very friendly.
Big Fat Layer
I'm kinda particular about bread and the baguette coming with the shakshuka was terrific! unfortunately the cappuccino was not foamy enough and the shot was weak for my liking. Croissant was neat but could be more buttery. Will definitely come back for the bread!

Struggling down Barkley, St Kilda, in the Saturday morning gridlock, my wife and I saw a place that looked interesting, had plenty of foot traffic and, miracle of miracles, a parking space almost outside. We propped,
stopped, parked and boy, were we glad! Busy a a NY deli, staffed by warm and welcoming helpers and Bread so fresh and varied, it practically walked out the door itself! Food to die for. We shared a toastie-of-the-day and a pizza slice unlike any other I've experienced. So fresh, so sapid. Wowza! Two organic coffees each later, we grabbed some fruit buns and a baguette, to take-away, upped stakes and left.

The locals have made it their own, plus the odd blow-ins like us. We're from Brisbane, so Huey was on
our side when he showed us the way. Guess where we're having breakfast on Monday, before we leave
to drive back to Brisbane? Oh, all right, I'll give you a clue1...
Lyn
Blink and you'll miss this place. The thing that will catch your eye about this bakery is the queue.
Menu to dine in is quite small, but the shashuka (baked eggs) is a great choice! Served with sourdough bread - ask for more because two pieces isn't enough.
Service was friendly and warm.
Also try their baked goods. We had the blueberry pastry and almond croissant and would definitely come back for more.
They also have a selection of breads to suit yoyr dietary needs (eg. spelt bread).
Highly recommend eating in, on a nice day outside and people watch.
Julia Ye
Authentic French bakery ! Nice settings, service and ambience. Great bakeries .
Only thing is their breakfast menu is too limited, basically an egg omelette and a toast , and that is it.
However really enjoyed the experience and will come back soon .
Sherena Ng
Went here with a friend for a lovely Sunday brunch, and was not disappointed. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing! I must say, even the bread rolls are freshly toasted, with the fluffiness of the bread soaking up the wonderful freshly baked eggs and tomatoes. Party in ma mouth!

When you live away from your home town finding anything to make you feel at home can be hard. Be it a group of friends from the same town or even a cafe that just oozes with homely feels can make all the difference. And with the sun now making a regular appearance here in Melbourne Woodfrog Bakery is a great local home away from home for all your baked good and caffeine fixes.

Best bread of st kilda and one of the best of Melbourne. Try the challah rolls with a latte in a hangover morning. Best cure for anything. Their Soir bread is excellent.
ToorakM
Oh my gosh this place is incredible!!!!

The best and I mean the best bread - pumpkin and soy beans that are soaked and you get these pops of soy beans - so good.

But seriously the little puff pastry flans with fruit are divine. The little one and partner can scoff them in a minute. Yum

My friend told me this place has amazing sourdough and almond croissants, so i had to try. And it was delicoous! The croissant was great! I dont know much about sourdough, but i decided to buy a loaf. I bought the pumpkin and linseed one. When i got home and toasted it, oh delicious! :D
Ed Cook
Busy little bakery/cafe - finally found a place that does great Croissants in the area - since Lune moved north there hasn't been one - and you don't need to queue for hours here.
Jessie
Wanted to see if it was as good as its rating and it was! Almond croissants are so good! Coffee is yum too. Nice little place and so cool that there are toasters and spreads on each table! Worth a visit.
Kinnii
True to its positive reviews, we enjoyed their breads very much. The baguettes are fresh and full of fragrance, which goes very well with the tomato feta baked eggs. We loved the ham cheese croissant too. Services were not as bad as the rest of the reviews implied, we thought that the ladies working behind the counters are rather friendly. That saying, it's a small and busy bakery, may be tough to get a seat at times.
TC78
Seriously the Best. Bread. Ever! Very addictive! Awesome danishes too (the raspberry danish is sensational), and the croissants are light and flakey. Yum!
Apple
Every product I have ever tasted from this bakery has been exceptional. Even the hummus I bought today was unreal! Definitely worth a visit.
Tolga
Cut & hip little bakery with amazing pastries and tasty breakfast menu! Came here with colleagues and had to share a table with a few other people, but everyone was so super friendly and welcoming. Lovely experience.
Custard Queen
They have beautiful bread! The pastries are delicious but very small and pricey. About $7 for a loaf of bread but it's so good, it's a treat.
Nicca
Amazing food!!! Terrible customer service. Tried to order spiced chai latte, rather than telling me they didn't have it, the service person reported to me that there is no such thing in existence and looked at me like I was stupid. Also argued with me that I was seeing the chicken pesto roll when it was tuna and tomato, then grabbed it for me and realised there were no chicken rolls and it was in fact tuna and tomato. Also ordered cows milk (am allergic to soy) and was given soy milk in my chai latte. Very rude interactions by service staff, unnecessarily so. My boyfriend went the previous week and ordered food, paid for it and was not given half his order and had to drive back to St Kilda to get it (they were much more polite with resolving this issue so I assume it was another staff member). It is a shame the amazing/incredible/quality food is spoilt by the inappropriate customer service. 5/5 for food, 0/5 for service.

DO: The Croissants or any version of them i.e. The almond or choc croissants.

DON'T: Forget to purchase a few of the bigger artisan loaves to take home. They can also slice right there for you.

TIP: Their best store will always be in St Kilda, however their kiosk at Westfield Doncaster saves those East side a trek.
MissionBake
I love their coffee. Well that was the only thing left at 1pm today. All sold out. Except for their exceptional artisan breads, of which I bought a Soir to try. Goes to show how popular they are. Definitely coming back for their other fares!
Brillat_Savarin
Their take on pissaladière (onion anchovy olive tart) is to die for! Their bread is amazing but should be eaten on the day; the Soir being their best sourdough. I've been coming here often as I am usually working in the area. The service is very hit and miss and yes, a bit on the $$ side.
Marco Cedriano
Nice croissants but definitely overpriced...five dollars! Worst service in St kilda, unfriendly, not smile...like to talk to robots without smiles! Bread nothing special...crust missing!
West Preston Diner
I often buy bread, bagels or pastries from their Kew branch. Always yum, great quality sourdough. Hot cross buns were excellent. The spelt loaf made great toast. It's just a shame they tend to sell out so quickly on a Saturday.
Soleil
I visited woodfrog in Brighton dendy plaza. Service was very helpful and efficient. I had the 'soir' rye loaf and tried a croissant. Bread had good flavour, light with a crunchy crust, croissant wasn't memorable. Not the best I've had but also definitely not the worst.
Yvesi
This is a gorgeous little bakery. The croissants are wonderful and the sourdough is beautifully fresh and soft. A lovely place to linger over a coffee early on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
Crispymelbreview
Have been coming here for years. Arguably one of Melbourne's finest bakeries; their satellite outlets are popping up in suburban shopping centres now. Everything from the coffee to the baguettes and rolls is impressive. Their white sour dough bread and bagels are my favourite.
Dani Eats
Freshly baked bread in St Kilda. Delicious pastries and baguettes to die for. Check it out if your in the area.
Bignami101
The be all and end all in sourdough in Melbourne. I get mine at the newer Kew branch near Leo's. The fruit danish with vanilla creme is so delicious that you will hide it from the rest of your family. The sourdough baguette vanishes in an instant!
Gdkf
Fantastic! Havn't tried the most important item on the menu-coffee but their scones and fantastic and their breads look amazing!!! Look forward to trying more!!
Pedro Viudas
I always get my bread and coffee from here. Bread is ridiculously delicious, the sandwhiches are yum (beef soir is a bit too mustardy for me but otherwise perfect) and the coffee's the best in the immediate area but not the best ever (i think it may be a machine or bean issue as the baristas seem really professional whenever i've been there)
Edward Schweitzer
Food is all excellent with bread being the highlight. Service is hit or miss and coffee OK. They have a pretty limited hot food menu but plenty of lovely sweet things.
Noble_rot
Worth the 20 - minute drive to the bakery. Everything is divine, especially the sausage roll - definitely the best in Melbourne after my exhaustive research among top bakeries in town.

The prices are visibly going up and becoming the antidote of its unassuming address. But one keeps coming back for very good reasons.
Hooray4bread
Best fruit bread and baguette we've tried!
First time we had the fruit bread was at little tommy tucker in Bentleigh, so impressed we drove out to St Kilda the next weekend. Good coffee, and the baguette never made it home. Excellent!
John Metcalf
Great Sour Dough breads. The "Soir" is the best sour dough I have had anywhere. I had a house full of people over and it was devoured in preference to all the other sour doughs I had out (6 of them) from all my favorite sour dough bakeries. That spoke for itself.
Tangles
Agree the service is suboptimal but by gosh their bread is amazing. Skip the coffee/eating in and just buy their baked goods to take home.
Me
Nice food, but selection always the same (for years). Also has been getting progressively more expensive. Is now hugely overpriced. I've stopped going.
Erica Wong
The best pain au chocolate I have eaten in Australia! The wood frog bakery is a hidden gem with delightful staff and amazing food, would recommend, and I will definitely return when I am next in Melbourne!
Karla Engdahl
Caramel donut. Caramel donut. Caramel donut. Get the caramel donut! Bread is pretty excellent as well. Caramel donut. Caramel donut. Is this 140 characters yet?
Luke
How good are these guys!!? Awesome takeaway coffee, and the sausage rolls... (if you can get them!) ... life changing !!! I've also gotten their artisan breads for wine n cheese nights, and they are SOOOOOO Good!! What can I say, these guys know what they are doing, and what they do they do super well. Highly recommend.
Priscilla
This is my new favourite place - amazing croissants and gorgeous spelt scones! And fab coffee.................………………….........................
Halloween Grinch
Best Shakshuka in town!. Most just come here for the bread which by the way is sensational - but they do a breakfast - well they do a Sakshuka which is one of, if t not the best in town.
Served in a large pan with crusty bread from their bakery and an olive oil and pesto dip on the side this is worth the trip.
They also provide toasters on the tables and there's little better on a cold morning than toasting their great sourdough and other products with lashings of butter to go with your coffee,
Kefalonica
Great bread, forget service. There’s no doubt their bread is excellent, but I would never go back again. I totally agree with Kyla’s review. Service is bad. Consistently bad. Shockingly bad.
Laurenceweir
Love My Bread. Travel far & wide for a "real" bread. Stumbled across The Woodfrog following the temporary closure of my previous provider whom I thought could not be superseded. Working my through the varieties- White - Pumpkin - Olive etc = all superb depending on your preference or occasion. All are superb fresh & last for days - great toasting.
Have not ventured above the bread yet given I am a superior bread junkie.
True bread lovers will not be disappointed.
Yolanda
BREAD HEAVEN. I am literally obsessed with this place.
I haven't eaten here so can't comment on the service or coffee
BUT the quality of the produce is by far the best ever, anywhere;
- Spelt sourdough - INCREDIBLE toasted, thoughts this was the best bread i've ever had until
- Pumpkin - OMG. But
- Honey Oat is by far the best out of the above 2 for sandwich style bread. Next I will try the Soir, can't wait.

The fruit loaf is to die for, you can see whole fruit pieces in there - fig/apricot, delicious!

The croissants, wow.
Dgpat
Best bread in town. I come down reluctantly from queensland this time of year, i would be back home tomorrow, but the spelt loaf keep me here!, great bread, great job, thanks
Kyla Mancuso
WORST SERVICE. This place is literally at the end of my street and I wish I could frequent there but it has the worst service ever! Continuously!!!!... like today I decided to give it another go and I waited 22min for my coffee (so she obviously forgot ) when I poped in to question the wait she finally made them and they were both incorrect. no apology or acknowledgment.
I've never written a bad review but the service and attitude is a joke
Clive
Woodfrog team says: loaf weight has not changed. Organic flour has the tendency to vary in strength, which can influence the size of the loaf. Also since we are exposed to the elements the colder weather can also affect loaf volume. If you put a loaf on a scale you would notice that they are completely unchanged! We are a small artisan bakery, not a corporate multinational engaged in cost reduction!!
GLW
Prices up and smaller!!'. Love this bread. However, very disappointed that the loaves have become significantly smaller and at the same time the price has increased! How does that work??
Jonny
Great bread, great pastries, hit or miss with the coffee.. I love Woodfrog, I probably go in 3 - 4 times per week. Their bread and pastries are consistently wonderful yet their coffee is hit or miss. I'm not an expert at making coffee so can't put my finger on what the issue is but its very bitter - potentially burnt(?). I've read a lot of reviews on here about the service, I can't say I've any issues with the staff. Yes they could probably do a little more to acknowledge someone they see 20+ times per month but they've never been rude or unfriendly.
Go get the Pan au Chocolat - divine!

But trust me on the croissants.
They are really good.

A few foodie joints around my work side of town. Woodfrog Bakery was the cutest!

Part two of our little Sunday post Run for the Kids exploration was a stop by Woodfrog Bakery’s little side stall alongside St Kilda Rd near the Victorian Arts Centre. Little did I know that Sunday was actually market day along this public walking strip and there were many other little stalls selling all sorts of baked treats, trinkets, souvenirs, hand made soaps and items to old school vinyls. One look at this bakery stall though and I was sold. The thing that stopped me in my tracks was the pumpkin bread, and apparently it did the same to my friend. The next thing I noticed, was how mouth watering their hot cross buns were. The lady at the stall told me that they were Melbourne’s second best hot cross buns (first being Tivoli Road Bakery). My friend and I were both intrigue and bought one each to try. My goodness were they delicious. The hot cross buns were both just right sweetness, you can taste the citrus as you inhale its aroma. Just the right balance of sultanas and raisins with

Amazing bread, pastries and breakfast. I first learnt of Woodfrod Bakery when I bought some bread from their stall at Coburg market. They make very good quality bread and perfectly layered croissants and danishes. I also had the shakshuka which was probably one of the better ones I've had. I'm not sure what the fuss is about their service, but my experience was a very positive one, maybe they've upped their game.

BEST BREAD, WORST SERVICE.... What a shame for this place to be let down by some rude and incompetent front of house staff members, one in particular. My partner and I live right next door and we go to that place few times a week. I would happily call myself a regular but I've never felt welcome or treated like one. The kitchen staff is making some of the best bread in Melbourne and I wish I could share this with my friends without having to tell them to watch out for the grumpy brunette...I have been a waitress and a restaurant manager for a long time and I would recommend this young lady to find her way in another industry. Service is NOT for you!
Thearmadillo
Great food, terrible service. The Woodfrog produces some of the best baked goods in Melbourne, and great coffee too, but the service at this place is poor. I just went in to grab take out coffee and they messed up my order - not for the first time, although at least they remembered it and didn't leave me there waiting today! - when I queried it, the girl in the basketball shirt making coffee did not care at all. On the whole, the staff come across as miserable and rude: there was a sign in the window for a while asking for feedback on bad service, so I assume I am not alone in noticing this. My advice would be to go around the corner to Dr Jekyll for your breakfast, where the food is great and the staff have good manners.
Frenchie82
Just come for the bread. Fantastic bakery products. Terrible service. Average coffee.
Nutritionistfooddiary
A great little bakery and good strong coffee. I love the Woodfrog cafe it has the most delicious variety of breads and they always make a good coffee. I love the soir and pumpkin and linseed bread which they bake fresh every day. A great little addition to St Kilda.
Sofia
Plenty of delightful offering to be found. I simply close my eyes and point when ordering, everything is scrumptious!
Rodc
Best bread around!. They only have the walnut baguette on the weekends, that's the only problem here. All their breads are fabulous, but that weekend baguette is killer. I saw some complaints about slow service but really, I don't mind hanging out in the queue at the bakery, I've met some nice people while waiting for their bread. As for the staff... they're always nice to me!
Invisible Noise
Great little spot, the lamb sausage roll is a killer but the poached eggs with fetta tomato peppers were very one paced with a sameness in every mouthful drowning the flavour of the eggs. Ordered the eggs hard and they came runny, still, it's got a nice vibe and the bread is fantastic.
