Review Veludo - St Kilda

Adam Jackson
This Restaurant is a hidden neighbourhood gem, great Staff, incredible food and reasonable prices!! We booked this Restaurant, not knowing what to expect. When we arrived, there was only one other couple eating in the Restaurant. We had looked up the menu before arriving, but the Restaurant had recently updated the menu, so our picks weren't listed. We stayed and ordered something else instead. The steak was cooked perfectly and the calamari salad was a massive serving and tasted incredible! The staff were amazing and Aaron (my daughter asked the staff member his name, hopefully she got the name correct!), who looked after us for dinner, made the dinner much more memorable for my wife and two children. Thank you very much for dinner šŸ˜Š

A grungy shopfront with a bar upstairs which is conveniently located at the end of the tram line on the quiet end of shopping strip. Staff were nice but lacked professionalism. Food was nice and had huge portion sizes. I felt that this place is for a low key lunch or dinner with a moderate price tag. The glasses provided were absolutely filthy (3 of 3), however I didn't ask for another one - I just drank my beer from the bottle. Staff need to either scrub the grime and grease off these glasses, clean the dishwasher (if there is one) or get new glasses and start again. Outdoor seating was adequate, but don't expect to seat a large group outside as the tables are quite small, enough for 2 people. There's a gas heater on the roof which is great for a cold night and an awning. Restaurant signage looks tired, covered in webs, rusting and dull - could repair it and give the externals a fresh lick of paint for summer. Green risotto with chicken was very nice and cooked well. It was creamy, hot and the flavour wasn't overwhelming. Portion size was huge and you will be comfortably full without finishing the meal. Seafood linguine was also very nice and cooked well. The seafood was cooked more by special request. Pasta was cooked al dente and the food was full of flavour and a bit of heat. Portion size of pasta was huge, enough for 2 people. Lost 2 stars due to filthy glasses which doubles as a lack of professionalism/pride within the venue and venue upkeep.

Pretty great place - the food I ordered was quite nice (the buttermilk chicken burger) and decently cheap. The real highlight was the staff, who were quite kind. Although it was quiet when I arrived at around 2, 3pm, my lunch did take a while which is my only - quite minor - complaint! I would certainly return next time I'm in the area.

Had a great dining with my husband. Groupon deal includes a bit of limit when you select menu.

Downstairs is something i highly recommend for a nice cheap drink with delicious food, however the vibe upstairs is a little bit shabby. The drinks were priced very low which was awesome but brings in a bit of a suspicious crowd. Other than that it was enjoyable if you ignore some of the patrons inside.

Great messy burger, chips and sauces were fantastic and all for $15 lunch special. The decor was shabby chic, presentation nice and the great couches out front for people watching with a drink. Only downside was we weren't offered drinks at the start and our meal took a bit to come out so we were left waiting. Overall though not a bad place for lunch.

Steak was great! The side salad and chips where actually amazing too. Very happy :)

This place has amazing service and great food. The music was also so easy to listen to not to loud. Will definitely return

Thank you Veludo for making my son's surprise 18th party truly memorable. The Candy Room was the perfect space, the food was fantastic and the staff friendly, quick to come to our aid in whatever we asked for and very helpful. All guests had a great time. I think you'll have quite a few repeat customers. Thanks again for a great night.

Veludo is my go to place when I am in St Kilda which is probably only half a dozen times a year, but it is always inviting, the staff are interesting and friendly, food awesome (especially the pork belly) and you can watch the people go by for an affordable price. Love it!!

We had a fantastic meal. Steak sandwich was amazing as were the haloumi salads. Highly recommend!

Had a pre show dinner here with my daughter and family last night. It is an informal dining location in that very St. Kinda style and flavour. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was quite tasty and a varied menu. The drinks menu is quite standard. A fine, informal place to eat and have no hesitation in recommending it as such. A fine establishment.

The beach Schack style and relaxed atmosphere are definitely not a reflection of the passionate and seriousness of the chef in producing food that are worthy of Michelin stars. I tipped my hat to the team. Our food was delicious and faultless. Barramundi was super tasty and eye fillet was cooked to perfection! My recommendation is definitely to start with The Chef Platter šŸ‘šŸ½šŸ˜‹ Must return ā˜šŸ½šŸ˜Š

I enjoyed my eye fillet steak, the potato(we were told by the waiter was mash) it was thinly sliced in a stack! The mushroom was supposed to be a lge grilled one, it was 90%stem and not much mushroom! Wasn't very nice. I saw drop the mushroom! We also added a rocket, pear, walnut salad which absolutely beautiful with the steak! Over all the meal was good! The company was better! Thanks for the invite Krill.

My seafood linguine was fabulous, with a good serve which could have fed two of us. Friendly staff who looked after you. Complimentary drinks due to the mishap the week before. Great location. Definitely would go again.

My husband and I came in for our wedding anniversary and everything was superb! The food, the service, the extra mile the staff members went to make it that little bit special! Thanks so much we loved every minute of it!

Friendly staff & an absolutely beautiful meal. Thankyou x

Nothing to say about this place except for bad customer service. Water was't given to us at our table. We were waiting 45 minuets in the cold for our food until we asked if it was nearly ready. Turned out they didn't put the order through. They offered us some free drinks for the stuff around. Told them not to worry about it and decided to leave.

Veludo upstairs is a gem amongst Acland Street! Sunny, bright and open space with plenty of great food and incredible bartenders who can make you a drink based off your preferred flavours. Friday nights are fun, with house music and a friendly bouncer who is awesome at his job. Love Veludo!
Sam Coulson
Wonderful food. Came to Melbourne to catch up with friends for the weekend. Dined there Friday night. Great service great food.

Good Food Good Mood
The staff are always excellent at Veludo and whilst the clientele seems to have changed a little in the eight or so years Iā€™ve been coming here lending it self to a younger crowd of late (or perhaps Iā€™m just getting older) the service is consistent. We popped in just before lockdown and the atmosphere was pretty lively for a school night, though nothing beats it during daylight savings times! <br/><br/>Further update <br/>I had the salt and pepper calamari and chips with aioli on this occasion and was pretty satisfied. The street is buzzing now that the weather is warming up so itā€™s a lively venue and the menu covers of all the classics at princepoints that are very accessible. No complaints here <br/><br/>Update<br/>My summer routine used to be as follows; leave home, jump on the tram, arrive at acland street, eat a steak sandwich at Veludo, walk to St Kilda beach. Now Iā€™ve moved to the burbs and things have changed at Veludo too, the interior looks markedly different and then menu boasts a lot of pasta dishes in place of my beloved steak sanga. <br/><br/>One constant however, itā€™s still in the entertainment book and therefore very reasonable considering they are quite affordable to begin with. Pick your pasta pick your sauce all the same price, pretty simple. I gravitated to the creamy pesto fettuccine and it was delish! <br/><br/><br/>Original review<br/>I recently went to dinner with a friend on a Tuesday where unbeknownst to us they run an all you can eat buffet for $16. Look the food wasn't the greatest but the price point was fantastic so in terms of value for money it wasn't too bad. Would still probably order a la carte next time but it's worth keeping in mind the actually run a different dinner special each night.

Veludo is a cool bar to hang out for a good afternoon session. It gets busy at night with a young crowd, but it's OK during the day if you are looking for some yummy drinks along busy Acland Street. <br/><br/>We headed upstairs where they have an outdoor balcony, but chose to stay indoors. We found a good table and decided upon a couple of delicious margheritas which were a fabulous choice on a Summer's day. The drinks were nice and tart, and they weren't stingey with the tequila. The lime juice was fresh, and I could easily get addicted to these cocktails. <br/><br/>The vibe is fun, and I loved all the gilded mirrors lining the wall. It was busy, but not packed; but I can imagine it being really popular on weekends and nights. The staff were excellent and service was quick and friendly. I would definitely head back to Veludo for another afternoon of cocktails, especially when the weather is good.

Rude and unprofessional manager. Very average food (the food was great before the kitchen closed. Terrible now).<br/>Ordered a rare steak; it arrived an hour later, served well done (nowhere near pink), before our starters; only to be told that the steak was rare and I was incorrect.<br/>I can't believe how quickly this place has gone downhill.

Veludos new menu is absolutely awesome šŸ‘ŒšŸ» the gnocchi was superb and the house special pumpkin risotto is a must try... I will definitely be back here

A warning for anyone with Groupon vouchers: use at this establishment at your own risk. Friends of mine dined here recently - they provided a Groupon voucher to the waitress/manager upon arrival. My friends observed this waitress/manager leave for the night halfway through the time they were there, and a second waitress took over. This second waitress claimed she "couldn't find the voucher". My friends believe the voucher was either misplaced or taken home by the first woman - or it was an outright scam. My friends, who were very polite throughout (and apart from the Groupon voucher, had spent $110 on other food and drink, so could hardly be thought of by Veludo as 'stingy') said they would email a copy of the original voucher from home (they obtained it from person who gave them the voucher). They did this, which should have put an end to the matter. However the manager did not apologise for the upset and stress caused to my friends, offer any sort of compensation for THEIR STUFF UP or even bother to say a simple "Thank you". Instead she demanded that they call her the next day. They refused and advised that the person who originally gifted the voucher would call, who attempted to call but received no answer. Absolutely disgusting "customer service". Groupon customers, dine at Veludo at your own risk.

Think they might have changed hands? Pretty disappointing lunch of burger, open lamb souvlaki & calamari - everything was salty and full of raw onion and for a strange reason beanshoots, neither detailed on the menu & as I am pregnant meant I had to pick around my meal & leave half of it. Would have sent it back but having waited over 30 mins for our food in the venue almost empty I didnā€™t have the patience. Friendly staff but very inefficient- sorry but wonā€™t be back.

A local favourite. Yummy pork belly and delicious gnocchi. Consistently good food overall, even though there may be slight variations. Recent changes to the cash register means they donā€™t take Amex anymore... but still a good place for a casual drink and meal.
Food Coma Survivor
My set lunch for 2 people was using the Groupon deal they had online. We were sat down at these long bench tables at the front of the restaurant, and they were so tight, the benches couldn't even move back for me to get in easily because it was right next to the table behind. Space was really tight and uncomfortable.<br/><br/>First, the sharing platter arrived. It had peri peri chicken, calamari, bread, and beetroot croquettes which were very good. I liked that it also came with so many dipping sauces, so we had the choice to choose. But the bread was stale, and you could tell it wasn't fresh.<br/><br/>We ordered the crispy pork belly and the seafood pasta. The seafood pasta looked good, but tasted bland and had no flavour. It was pretty odd considering I could see the sauce at the bottom of the plate, but when it just tasted bland, almost like it was just pasta and pieces of seafood. Couldn't taste the garlic or the olive oil at all.<br/><br/>The pork belly's skin was NOT CRISPY. This was such a disappointment to me, the skin was chewy even though it looked crispy on the outside. The meat was cooked unevenly, as one side of it was juicy and the other side was dry. The orange butternut sauce/purƩe tasted really yummy but there was only one teaspoon of it on the plate, and kale chips on the side were really crispy.<br/><br/>Service was appalling to say the least, the waitresses walked slow, looked moody and took forever to get cutlery and water. When I wanted to scan my Groupon code, their iPad wasn't work and I had to wait over 10 minutes for something that should've taken only a few seconds. What I got from the Groupon was worth the food I got, but without the deal, I would never even think about coming back.

I've been here at St Kilda fest for good espresso martinis, I've since found out their food is spot on as well.Ā <br/>Had about 4 different entrees, main & dessert which were all equally pleasure inducing.<br/>Friendly staff. I would not complain if I had to go back
Lisa Gresens
I haven't eaten here but the cocktails are definitely good. However, they probably look better than they taste. Also no table service. However, we spent a few hours here sitting in their comfy armchairs, watching the thunderstorm slurping cocktails.
Dam Burger
Came here for lunch today. Had the chicken Parma and a glass of red. Parma was normal pub type fair with an average glass of red. Asked for a piccolo and got a soy latte (didnā€™t complain was happy to try something different), overall service was good. Toilet were disgusting... if I had of seen them first I would not have ordered food.

Dessert time ....<br/><br/>Cheap coffee for Acland St ..... Yeap, $3.50, just average though, accompanied by $11.00 Sticky Date Pudding, just okay, lacking in Butterscotch sauce.<br/><br/>The venue is something else, wall of wine bottles, dimly lit, centralised bar, well stocked, attentive floor staff, a few lounge suites, layback, cosy and inviting. Must check out their roof garden on the next trip.<br/><br/>Love their toilet signage ... Male & Female :-) JT-28/10/2017.

Bought a voucher from Groupon and went there last 2 time, foods are nice decorating and taste good, worth the money for 2 people and had a good night, but waited for food are so long time
Flying Forward
Points for: Fresh, tasty dishes, lively atmosphere, discounts<br/>Dine Time: weekday dinner<br/><br/>Seeing Veludo offer discounts across so many platforms makes me a bit apprehensive, but decided to give it a go while enjoying a warm night along the beach.<br/><br/>We sat outside to enjoy the lively atmosphere of Acland St, however it was a little bit loud from the music coming from the speakers, people around, buskers. The table we had was so small, it could barely fit 3 plates.<br/><br/>While it wasn't really busy yet (around 6:30pm), the food actually took quite a while to come out (15-20 mins).<br/><br/>The haloumi salad was pretty filling with pumpkin and kale. The haloumi itself was nicely grilled and had a mild saltiness, and with the grilled chicken, went perfectly well.<br/><br/>Lamb koftas had a good meaty, lamby taste with a nice crust and still kind of medium on the inside. Paired really well with the tzatziki and pickled cucumber, with the soft pita to carry it together.<br/><br/>The steamed mussels with prawns and chorizo was decent value - although had disappointing points to it. The prawns were a little small, the chorizo was more of a kransky, and the mussels were the size of my little figernail. However still a tasty dish with the spicy tomato sauce.

There are places that when I have asked for a medium rare steak I get medium or a medium well. Then there are places that get it right, and to be fair it's not always easy doing so. This place got it right.<br/>So a big tick from me.<br/><br/>The dessert was not as good as the rest of the meal but still nice. I think though I was so full that I couldn't eat anymore even of I tried. And yes I did try, but was just stuffed silly.<br/><br/>Service was lovely and whilst the place was a bit quiet for a Saturday night, it still has a nice atmosphere.

Came here for the big fight and it was a great place. We didn't fancy a pub venue so ended up here, it was quite cozy and the atmosphere is lovely. Staff were all very friendly and the prices are really good. <br/><br/>The Nutella hot chocolate is to die for!
Food
Came with Groupon.<br/><br/>Friendly and accomodating staff, didn't have to wait too long for food.<br/><br/>Serving sizes were good, particularly entree and main.<br/><br/>However, the dessert tasted and looked like it could have been brought from Woolworths.<br/><br/>Good value for money but wouldn't be happy paying full price.
Hungry Hieu
The atmosphere was very cozy and felt like a great place to hang out with the inviting fireplace and open couch settings. Food was also amazing and beautifully presented. The cheese croquettes was delicious as it was crunchy on the outside but soft and creamy inside. Our mains was also a hit as steak were cooked just right and had a mild flavouring, whilst the pork belly was tender and crispy. It's a shame servings is a bit small for the price and service wasn't consistent across all 3 staff but overall we had great dinner.
Grace
The restaurant is dimly lit and scattered with heaters, which made for a cosy atmosphere on a wintery Melbourne Wednesday night. We tried the $16.00 Wednesday steak special - really good value in my opinion. The steak was cooked to my liking (medium, if you're wondering), served with your choice of standard accompanying sauce (mushroom, of course!) plus the obligatory chips and salad. The wine list was also quite good and the staff friendly. <br/>All in all, a pleasant experience.
Lebaba
So good. We were accommodated last minute on a Groupon even though the Groupon website said there were no bookings available for that night as we decided too late to book. Staff sorted it out, and we were seated with the menus already laid out and a candle. Food was great - lamb was tender and croquettes were amazing. Would definitely return.
Fleur Stevenson
Yummo. Delish food, great service and friendly happy staff. Cool atmosphere on a late sunday arvo/ evening. Thanks for having us, we will return.
Holly Taylor
Came here with a Groupon. Limited menu with this deal although food is delicious and well presented. Customer service could be a little friendlier but is definitely efficient. Decor is a dark, moody bar vibe. Had the chicken skewers, dips, pork belly and shared dessert.
EatBeHappy
Wednesday steak nights are amazing<br/><br/>Two old chairs out the front make for prime people watching (don't be ashamed we all do it )<br/><br/>I love a sunny day busking I'm the chairs<br/><br/>Food is amazing and you get what you pay for!!
Rodney - Villa D'Este
We had a early 6:30 dinner with a friend who lives around the corner from Veludo. She is a regular there and is working her way through the menu. So recommendations of what was on offer were plenty. I was not that hungry so had the Steak sandwich which was tender, could have come without the cheese personally. Two others had the Barramundi which by accounts was moist and plated well. The calamari salad looked appetising, the straight lengths of calamari looked odd. The wines on offer were impressive.
Tammy Huynh
We bought a Groupon voucher and ordered lemon pepper calamari and chicken skewers as entree dishes. Then had eye fillet steaks. Very delicious and good quality. The cheesecake and sticky date pudding were very delicious as well. I would come back here again without Groupon.
Rachael
Came here as a Groupon, set menu was already laid out on the table with a reserved seating. Super fun staff. Efficient food service and very good prices. Food was lovely. The roasted pork belly and caramel pudding was especially delicious.
Julie Avery
Must order the crispy skin pork belly and the sticky date pudding - both exceptional. great service, attentive, very friendly great vibe, excellent people watching
Brendan Lee
Good food, friendly service and nice environment. The entres and dessert was great. Mains could have had a few more veggies to balance out the meat.
JayBee
Small menu but everything done extremely well. Friendly service, decent specials and very reasonable portions. Will definitely be heading back soon.

Came here for a weekend dinner. Ordered the seafood linguini and 250g eye fillet steak. Despite the long wait for the food even though the restaurant wasn't busy, the food was surprisingly good. The seafood linguini was tasty, good amount of seafood and the chilli and garlic gave it a bit of a kick in flavour. The steak was well cooked and tender, a very enjoyable dish. Good portion and staff was friendly.
Rio Grande
Average pre cooked food. Dry and tasteless. Staff had no interest in being there, more focused on enjoying their coffee and listening to rap music blaring throughout. Clearly employing tracksuit wearing backpackers is the way to go. Have no interest in returning- this is not a restaurant
Zenaida Beatson
Food is fine. The coffee is okay. But if you're looking for good, helpful customer service, I wouldnt go to Veludo. I'm yet to meet a staff member who seems to want to be there. It does do free wifi.
Clair
Garden terrace is a beauty on a summers day. Beetroot and goats cheese croquettes are my fav. Staff could be more attentive and happy to serve you but food is good so not got huge complaints!

A cold, wintry Sunday in St. Kilda in 2016. Ventured into the back of this restaurant to find a lovely deep lounge with a log fireplace. Relaxed with a glass of wine and a delicious homemade seafood pasta. Felt like I just dropped into a friend's place. Will be back

Went to Veludo for breakfast during St Kilda fest. The servers were attentive despite it being busy. We had Sam I Am, Veludo Breakfast Bowl, and the Veggie Patch. The veggie patch was a larger breakfast, especially compared to Sam I Am or the breakfast bowl, but all were filling. I enjoyed the basil hollandaise sauce on the Sam I Am and the sourdough toast was easy to cut into. I really enjoyed that dish. The Veludo breakfast bowl had some interesting flavours put together, but surprisingly good and fresh tasting. Overall, I enjoyed the breakfast here.

Very good coffee and brunch function bar close to St kilda beach, approximately 5 mins walk down the Main Street. Where the bar wasn't packed when we arrived in the time, but it was fulfilled by Sunday food seeker and family gathering. The Big Pommy meal was numerous and amazing taste, the smoke salmon with sweet corn pancake matched well, the balance of sweetness and saltiness. Also the two poached egg topped of smoked Salmon were great!! Strongly recommend for brunch destination!!

Love this place, staff are very friendly and attentative I ordered the Dutch Carrots as a snack omg yum they are so delicious, we definitely go back to try more meals :-)
The Pierced Palate
This venue is probably only good for the drinks & the wedges after work. Ordered the chicken risotto - chicken was overcooked & dry, risotto was overcooked as well, the rice didnt even look or had the texture of proper risotto rice & it wasnt seasoned enough. Waitstaff were nice & friendly but had no idea about what wine they had or what would go well with the dishes we ordered.

Wed night steak night is good quality and good value.<br/>Pity the upstairs good spots at the front are smoking areas. Bring on no smoking at venues like this.
Gregoire
Great little space, very friendly staff. I sat by the open fire and enjoyed the 'One pan chicken', the Head Chef's friday night special. Looking forward to going upstairs and having a boogie as I always do at the weekend at Veludo!

I always thought St Kilda would be deserted in winter but Acland Street was still buzzing with activity even on a Wednesday night with a fair bit of people dining out. Since it's Wednesday night we chose to have the $15 steak special, along with a seafood platter which consisted of four kinds of seafood (grilled rockling fillet, salt & pepper calamari, grilled king prawns and napoli mussels & pipis), two slices of charred toast, a side Greek salad and a plate of potatoes bravas. Starting with the steak, it was alright but a bit burnt and chewy with too much fatty parts. At $15 I suppose you can't complain, I guess for the original price they'd give you better cuts. The chips and salad that came along with it were pretty standard. The seafood platter itself was good and surprisingly I got full quickly when I thought it wouldn't suffice. My favourite was the mussel bowl because the sauce was delicious and there were also onion and chorizo in it. Salt and pepper calamari was okay but a little salty, rockling fillet was oily at the top but slightly dry underneath. Liked the garnishes and sauces. Prawns were nice but also kind of dry and weren't too fresh. Didn't have the toast because we were already full (hubby ate the steak all by himself, and people walking past were looking at our table of food in awe, maybe because they were surprised at how much we were eating). The side dishes were just normal and nothing to rave about. Didn't like the house white, and they served sparkling wine in a cocktail glass... Okay. Service was welcoming and prompt, and there was heating above our heads on the ceiling so we were kept warm throughout our meal. Not bad overall but didn't blow us away either, would probably return some other time as they have specials almost every day of the week.
April_eats
Really hit and miss. Having been a few times each time thinking I'll give it another go as the staff are friendly and it's a great location I don't think I'll be back for food again. However will definitely come back for a drink with friends great space and bar upstairs
Clotilde.blanchet10
Had the big pommy breakfast which is usually $20 but was on special for $15. Home made beans, generous portion and really flavoursome mushrooms. Great value. Staff smiley and friendly.
Poonam Sheth
Not exactly recommend. Rockling fish and salad was a soggy mish mash. The chicken santorini, chicken was dry. Then the cocktail somethong to giggle about was not a jug as advertised but a milkshake glass. Not exactly impressed. Food okay but not exactly something to recommend.

$15 steak special on Wednesday night! Amazing!!!Ā Nice crispy chips, well-dressed salad, and a steak with a nice char-grilled flavour :)<br/><br/>We also had a couple of entrees - the beetroot and goats-cheese croquettes, and the lamb skewers. The sauce that came with the croquettes was delicious, and they were presented nicely. Although the croquettes were nice and crispy, the filling was pretty average. We also had the lamb skewers. They were tough, but tasty. Ā <br/><br/>Service was also very good.Ā <br/><br/>Overall... great steak special. Go on a Wednesday night!
Linnie Eats All The Food
Miss Train and I decided that we needed a sugar hit and was banking on Matcha Mylkbar but since it was super full (it was a one hour wait? OH EM GEE!!), we decided to walk around St Kilda and see where we could drop by. Eventually we got tired of walking and ended up at Veludo (it was also in the Entertainment Book, SCORE!). Ā So we plopped out tooshies down and looked over the menu.<br/>Since we both absolutely adored chocolate, we could not pass up a chance to have the chocolate fondue. When it came out, we were super duper excited (almost leaped out of our chairs one could say). The set consists of marshmallow, apples and strawberries. This was such a disappointing chocolate fondue. The chocolate itself was super bitter which we found out was 80% cocoa but it wasnā€™t the good tasting bitter. We could not eat the chocolate at all. The staff were super lovely about it, asking the chef if they could sweeten it but it was a no can do (at least she tried!).

Linnie Eats All The Food and I was in st kilda today to try our the rave of the town cafe (around the corner) but it had a 1.5hr wait so we decided to venture around and found this place on the entertainment book - 25% off so after checking the menu we decided to pop in for some desserts.<br/><br/>First impression - relaxed cafe/bar lounge with great fixtures and friendly services. Was quiet when we got there around 12pm so that was probably a big indicator but we gave it a chance anyway... <br/><br/>unfortunately i cant say anything good about the desserts.. we ordered the chocolate fondue & yoghurt panacotta. Chocolate fondue was served on a lil platter with small strawberries and few<br/>Slices of green apples and a plate of marshmallows. Unfortunately the chocolate fondue was awful.. Way too bitter with cocoa i assume? The fruits and marshmallow was meant to sweeten it but unfortunately it wasn't strawberry seasons... Did inform the waitress who was helpful in asking the chef about it however the response was that it was dark chocolate that contained 75% cocoa? A shame.. Perhaps veludo should look into investing in a better quality chocolate because we didnt touch it at all.. I did eat all the fruits since it was $20! <br/><br/>Yoghurt panacotta didn't taste like a panacotta at all. Very dense and the syrup was very odd which didnt go well with the dish at all... Perhaps it would taste better with glazed berries? But then i wouldnt call that a panacotta.. More like a yoghurt cream custard?<br/><br/>Overall a disappointing experience. We paid $22 after discount and only ate about 22% of the portions... <br/><br/>šŸ˜’šŸ˜žšŸ˜•

Went here with the family , I had the chicken and mushroom risotto , was good , my kid had a kids cream penne , was a adult serve for only $9 , but was tasteless , my wife had a tomato spinach ricotta penne it. Was not bad, but not great , the service is extra average , I also got a bear was not that cold and it came with a wet in billed glass, pitiful , the waitress ignored up for 10 min , don't think I'll be back !!!!! La roshe 3 doors up is lots better

I stopped by so randomly to have lunch. Service was good and fast.<br/>I had the Saganaki prawns, an amazing surprise. The plate was huge, tasty and filling. Overall it might seem a bit overpriced but the location is amazing and the taste is good as well. Ā <br/>Definitely recommended!!!

In for early dinner, had 3 mice running around our feet. The staff dismissed it as a street wide problem without a hint of responsibility or apology. They get 1.5 star because the homeless guy sat on their table out front was polite when asking for small change.

The Big Fat Pom Breakfast was tasty and a good deal for $15. The homemade baked beans and tomato sauce were an added touch.<br/><br/>The downside was slow service when the place wasn't busy. Waiting 18 minutes for beer to be delivered to your table doesn't quite cut it on this highly competitive strip.<br/><br/>Shame.

Following our recent visit to Veludo, we were happy to see that new Owners Dominic & Emmanuel had started to make some very slight improvements to the venue, but the most significant change was to the drinks offering at the bar upstairs & the food menu in the restaurant downstairs. Ā Owner & Head Chef Emmanuel is passionate about food & has taken the time to understand his customers & put together a delectable variety of dishes on their menu, that is reasonable in price, especially for the portion size you are receiving. Ā The menu offers Breakfast Options which include: Toasted Muesli, Brioche French Toast, Smash avocado, Baked Eggs etc. Ā Along with LunchĀ & Dinner options, which include a variety Pasta dishes, Risotto, Tapas, Salads, Mains & Grills etc. Ā We at Melbourniancritic look forward to seeing what other improvements that Dominic & Emmanuel have planned for the future with regards to Veludo.

Had dinner with my sis in Sunday night. We had four of the tapas which was way too much food but delicious. The fish cakes and croquettes were delicious. I loved the lamb skewers but my sis thought they were too rare. Dips were really good but were too full to appreciate it. Great for chilling out on a Sunday night. We also had the Hare Krishna dancers congregating outside twice which gave it a nice touch. Cocktails and wine were great.

Veludo is a cafƩ/bar in St Kilda and they have $15 all you can eat after 6pm specials and are featured in the Entertainment book. They have an upstairs, rooftop bar as well as outdoor seating. We chose to sit outside as it was a nice sunny day. They have a menu displayed outside which the tourists were looking at and some went in. The service was really slow and uninteresting. Staff looked like they wanted to go home. They do have a breakfast menu but it was finished by the time I got there which was 1pm. The lady forgot to tell the two customers behind me but the male waiter did just fine.

Chilled out space with a lot of character. Sitting in the comfy old chair at the front soaking up the Acland St vibe was a great start to the night. The espresso martinis were also right up there with the best I've had. Would return just for them! They also have dinner specials most nights of the week which look to be great value.

Really great bar at night time, but pretty average as a restaurant.Ā Went on a Saturday morning a few weeks ago and was served by a very rude British girl.<br/><br/>She got our order wrong and was pretty short with us when we asked for it to be fixed. There was a few other staff members all hanging around at the bar looking pretty dis-interested and hungover.<br/>The food was okay, just regular bacon and eggs etc.<br/>At the end of our meal it was clear we were pretty annoyed with the whole experience, went up to pay and they bluntly refused to split our bill, even though there was literally nobody else in there... I will be back, but to the rooftop on a night out and not the restaurant!

Chill by day and buzzing by night! The typical scenery at St Kilda. This is a good place to have lunch and wine with a couple of friends to enjoy company. Burger-it-up!

Crazy wait...We waited for an hour for 2 plates of breakfast. There was not even crowded on Tuesday Melbourne cup day. The service was extremely slow with 2 plates of food dishes out every 15 minutes. Asked when our food ready and responded eggs was cooking and 25 minutes wait before food was dished out. I rather u were honest with the time. Day could have been better than just waiting for an average breakfast to be served.

Very nice and friendly environment. Staff is always talkative and willing to help. I go there often for lunch and food is really nice and portions are large.

This is what we have got for 'chocolate fondue'. Desolved milo (not melted chocolate) on a bowl of warm water underneath and a few marshmallows and a few strawberries.. i thought it was a joke. You should get rid of it from the menu if you are going to serve it like that. Massive disappointment.

The food is average at best. I got a voucher here for a three course meal which was oily and bland. I went back as a group of friends wanted to check it out. I had the burger it was dry and lacked seasoning. I will not be going back for food ever again. However the bar upstairs is great and has a good vibe.

A friend recommended here for breakfast so a group of us headed down there after a big night. The staff were friendly and had a good laugh with us, but their attention span was a little all over the place. The selection of food to choose from was decent and lots of yummy things. I ordered the Happy Eggs, poached, on toast with some extra sides of Avocado and a Hash Brown. Other dishes on the table included the Big breakfast, avo on toast, vegetarian breakfast and the Green Eggs and Ham. 90% of us had poached eggs and ALL of them were essentially hard boiled eggs. A good poached egg is all I wanted. Wish I had have ordered the French toast! However the avocado was delicious and the coffee was also good. When walking out I saw others who had eggs were much better so I guess the chef needs a little more time management when dealing with a big group!

Took some friends along here on Sunday night. Cold outside, but nice and warm inside. Had some live music going up the front. The service was really some of the best I have come across. Friendly, attentive without being intrusive and very efficient. We were served or checked on by a few different waiters and waitresses and each one was great. The food took a little longer than you'd think to come as it wasn't super busy but it was hot and quite delicious when it arrived. Price is a little up there but it's St Kilda, so probably par the course. I would recommend and definitely go back.

Had a Sunday breakfast there , forgot the order , 30 minute wait between coffees and food , ran out of butter . I'll let you work out the rest .

Awesome place for some weekend fun, I have had some great times there and the staff are super friendly.

The food is so so but really cool vibe for a few drinks. Beer garden set up upstairs is sick. Will definitely be frequenting this place going forward

Terrible food slow serves. Not the best in st kilda ok for a drink but stay away for a meal this place has no idea the food tastes like it comes out of a thin and WHAT SERVICES

Homophobic door staff and bad service!!!. I have never been to a restaurant where as a person with a disability I have had to explain to the security that im not gay and been told to pay the bill and get out... Not only with a back brace and metal rods in my back I was still seen as gay coz I asked my friend to help me off with my brace ... To phone the police and end up having a public discussion over a disability about how I shud notify staff about befor going to the toilet is disrespectful... I have never been so disgusted with a place before! I will never return .... Disgusting !!!!

Fabulous Steak Night. One of the best steak specials I've ever had. $15 for a perfectly cooked (& tender) porterhouse with chimichurri butter & a house wine. Great value, great feed.

We were in the area so thought we should grab brunch at one of the cafes here - Veludo was one of the restaurants in my Entertainment book 25% off =)<br/><br/><br/>It was such a cold windy morning so we decided to sit inside under one of the heaters ahh ^^<br/><br/><br/>P, as per usual, got the big fat pommy bastard: 2 eggs, bacon, hashbrown, roast tomato, pork chipolatas, mushrooms, chilli tomato pickle & toast $19<br/><br/><br/>

The aioli was delicious - I was dipping my calamari in on the sly...

All in all we had a lovely evening at Veludo Bar and Restaurant. I can see it being a regular spot for the locals looking for a casual meal, but I donā€™t think Iā€™ll be crossing the river just to dine there in a hurry.<br/>
Melbourne Lifestyle Blog
What is immediately apparent about the Veludo Bar is it is a relaxed, friendly and welcoming place. As you walk into a restaurant, Ā first impressions count a lot: itā€™s often the base upon which a whole night builds. The Brazilian chef turns out some interesting and delicious food: thereā€™s nothing pretentious about the food. The food is much like the staff and the ambiance of the restaurant: Ā relaxed, authentic and welcoming. Veludo Bar and Restaurant is in the heart of Acland Street.Ā Ā If you are planning aĀ  flight to Melbourne , this place delivers for both the location on the iconic St Kilda strip, as well as the food. On a Wednesday night the restaurant wasnā€™t crowded. Although Veludo calls itself a bar,it didnā€™t appear that it was set up for customers to mill around the bar. Instead there were a lot of small tables with chairs, leather arm chairs and some larger tables. Maybe

The entertainment of the evening came from the creators (or 'beerologists' but certainly no brewers) of St Kilda Brew, Jamie Bunn and Troy McKinna. We got to hear the tale of how this beer grew from...
I Eat Therefore I Am
As part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival , I was offered media (who's media? oh me, why thank you :-)) accreditation to the Saint Kilda Brew event at Veludo . The event was billed as a beer and belly event. Those are two of my favourite things, and combining them is even better than the sum of its parts. The belly in question is pork belly, while the beer is Saint Kilda Brew. The story of the origins of Saint Kilda Brew is not new or unique. Two mates, Troy and Jamie, were sitting around watching the footy grand final between the Saints and the Cats and drinking beer when they decided they wanted to make their own beer. Here is where the story steers away from the usual script, where that idea never happens and everyone goes back to their normal lives. Instead, Troy and Jamie have actually turned that idea into reality. They describe themselves as "beerologist", which means that they don't make their own beers, but instead mix various types of beers to create their unique Saint

The menu at Veludo sounded pretty decent, as did the $16 lunch menu and I loved the wall of wine bottles.

Yet to be desired. The food is pretty bland and basic and quite pricey for what it is, nothing stand out, the service is a tad disappointing, the servers do not seem to have much knowledge about the products they sell, maybe they are new staff or they need some more training. The drinks list is basic but it works, the venue has a good vibe and good music, it's a good place to catch up with friends for a drink maybe a little dance, I recommend coming here for drinks only, avoiding eating here, there are so many other great places to dine around.

Ho hum service, and expensive for what it is.

Salivating. Beautiful summer day in Melbourne headed to St Kilda intending to eat at Rococo only to be told there would be a 25 minute wait. We tried Amigos instead and the bar man thought there might be a table inside but needed to check after we declined a table outside (asthmatic & cigarette smoke not a good mix). While we waited another couple arrived & were offered a table inside and with a hand gesture the waiter indicated a table right at the front for us. We left. <br/><br/>On the hunt again we came across Veludo & recalling we'd been there once before and enjoyed it we thought we'd try again. We were seated immediately and brought drinks. Not sure how long we waited but I remember at one point thinking hope it won't be much longer until our meals arrive. Not long after that our meals arrived.<br/><br/>The waiter was friendly and admitted he had only just started working there and wasn't entirely 100% about the menu when we queried him about a Quilme chicken dish, his response was "basically Maryland chicken cooked in beer". I wasn't convinced so decided on sharing the 3 different sliders for $15 for entree even though I thought it was a little steep in price. Not that keen on sliders initially, from the first mouthful I was a convert it was delicious, the pork was my favourite. The brioche bun was lightly toasted, the meat just melted in my mouth, the other ingredients so full of flavour. I even enjoyed the pickle... who knew I liked pickles?! Next was the chicken Waldorf salad with candied walnuts. Again, beyond expectation the crispness of the lettuce and apple, the sweetness from the grapes and candied walnuts, the chargrill of the chicken & the dressing = a party in my mouth. Really impressed with the bite of an onion ring that I tried too. I would be a regular if I lived locally. <br/><br/>Although an incident left me feeling unhappy. Whilst waiting for our meal we were approached by an aboriginal woman and I assume she was homeless. At the time I was distracted so didn't hear the conversation but learned she asked for food. I am reluctant to give cash but would have agreed to paying for her meal. Unfortunately, the wait staff escorted her out before I had the chance to offer. I thought it was a little uncalled for, there were a few empty tables & we are all humans after all.

MANAGER ( or should i say child ). The female manager is so rude its like dealing with a child!!!!<br/>i ordered a burgar FUN-GUY not knowing it was a veggy burger so i sent it back and got a reuben it was so flavourless all you could taste was the bread and pork i pushed it aside with disappointment the manager came over and explained that it was meant to taste like that you have already sent one burger back do you want that instead, i said i did not no it was a veggy burger HER RESPONSE WAS WELL FUN-GUY IS FUNGI BURGAR thats what fun guy means????? i have heard some crap in my time but that is just stupid.<br/>Went to pay she charged me for the reuben i said i am not paying for something that had no flavour her response was well you can pay for the other one then ???? NO i said fun-guy has nothing to do with fungi nothing at all she stood there like a child staring at me she grabbed the card off my wife put though the bill and said with attitude i charged you for half the reuban $8.50.<br/>When dealing with a child such as this one its really not worth going there at all i feel for the chefs and other staff having to deal with this child.<br/>To the wait staff you where all great.

Lovely. Had a booking for 6pm Sat, restaurant nice and quiet at this time. We loved the salmon with passionfruit sauce, and the calamari entrees. Mains were nice too, we had fish and chips, and the mexican style chicken. My favourite part was the desserts served in cute little glass jars! The "Snickers Mr T" was to die for and so was the lemon meringue - so decadent! Enjoyed the cocktail jug too. We would definitely go back if we lived close to St Kilda.

Was here Friday night, ordered a chicken burger with chips. Very dissapointed, lacked flavour and was very charred. Honestly would of preferred a burger for McDonalds. Also requested for tomato sauce which never came. However bar upstairs has a really nice atmosphere and great drink specials !

Breakfast Saturday AM July 26th. Slow service. Slow on getting coffees out, food ordered and then food delivered. We were seated at 11am, ordered food at 11.15 and then it didn't come out till 11.40. Bearing in mind that most cafe's can get you seated, coffee'd and with breakfast on the table in under 15 minutes. This is breakfast (not dinner) in a relatively empty cafe in an area which should have this mastered! The service lacked a promptness that would be expected for a cafe of this area. Eggs over done on the Eggs Benedict. The temperature of the "Big Pommy Bastard" breakie was cool to luke-warm. This place used to nail breakfast well and good. Gone down hill I'm afraid. <br/>Coffee still good quality.<br/>Temperature of the place good for winter.

Absolutely fantastic! Purchased a scoopon which provided a set menu that was great. Good variety, all delicious, leaving us full and satisfied. The service was also very friendly. So impressed can't wait to go back

Scoopon dinner!. Four of us went here on a cold windy night with Scoopons. The place is nice and service on point and welcoming.<br/>The Scoopon we had was a great all you can eat deal from a set menu and we all left full. The highlights were the pork tacos, sangria and strangely enough the chips. I would venture to Veludo for pre drinks and chips whenever I'm in the area again!

Bloody fantastic ! Purchase.... Bloody fantastic !<br/>Purchased a Scoopon - best value meal ever purchase . The staff made us welcome and the food outstanding for what we paid . I'd go back even if wasn't a Scoopon, since I purchased 3 more Scoopons , I'll be using them up first !!

Absolutely loved it. Don't .... Absolutely loved it.<br/>Don't listen to any other scoop on reviews, we bought one and we were not dissapointed.<br/>Food came out within 5 minutes of getting there, each course was quick and delicious. We were so full by the end.<br/>sangria was great as well.<br/>Service was fantastic and very friendly.<br/>Will definitely return soon.

Great service. Pleasantly surprised on how small the portions were, but very filling. We used our red balloon voucher and had a choice from 12 tapas dishes and 4 desserts. The food was quite nice and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Neety
Very slow service. Over 40 minute wait for simple orders when there is less than half the tables occupied.

Do not buy a scoopon voucher for this place. When the waitress doesn't ask you how was everything? then it says it all. Just left, the food was that bad that me and my girlfriend just had to laugh it off! If street food means a bowl of chips with sweaty salad and a bowl of Doritos with extra salt then yes it's definitely street food. You're better off going sitting next door with the back packers and having a Parma. I bought two of these so still deciding who I can stitch up with the other one! If you've bought one you'll probably think you should just go anyway and try it - don't bother.

Great new menu, great night with my girlfriends, garden bar was amazing, staff are great.... Did I mention the new menu is FANTASTIC!

Typically I am a bar patron of veludo and don't eat much here but I just are their $1 Friday wings and they deserve commendation. There's wings are the best bar or restaurant wings I've ever eaten. At only $1 a piece I have found a new place for a bite and a drink on Friday<br/>Thanks

Fabulous dinner with a Red Balloon Voucher. My Fiance and I were given a Red Balloon voucher for Christmas.<br/>My Fiance suprised me by making the booking last weekend.<br/>We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Veludo!! The menu was what i assumed to be a smaller version of the full menu. We had the calamari and the jalapeno crouquettes for entree; the lamb and the paela for main; the chocolate tart and the white chocolate creme brulee for dessert. As part of our voucher we were given a bottle of wine (we went with Red) and a cocktail each. My all time favourite Amaretto Sour was on the list, so I couldnt go past this. Much to my satisfaction, it was up there with the best i've had!!!<br/>The food was really flavoursome and came out hot, with reasonable time between each course.<br/>The staff were efficient and pleasant. We weren't treated differently for having the voucher.<br/>Cant wait to go back to try the full menu!

Disappointing 18th wedding anniversary dinner!. Booked a table at this place through Urbanspoon, when we arrived the place was empty not just a few people but NO diners at all. We were told the only seating available was on a bar stool at a high table or outside on the 'side walk'. Neither of which were suitable. We were celebrating our 18th Wedding anniversary and clearly were not the 'right age' to patronise for this place. The two young 20 something females tried nothing to assist us at all, in fact they gave us our options and said we'll let you think about it. It didn't take much thought that we were not going to be accommodated so we left.....a huge waste of a baby sitter. Very very disappointing!!!! We ended up dining at 'Schnitz' down the road, not exactly a romantic dinner for two but they were friendly and very happy to serve us.
Dearbhla Stynes
Wonderful food and friendly staff that are eager to please. Will definitely be back. thanks guys xxxxx

Disappointed, cold, uninspired. Have eaten at Veludo a good few times over the years, style and consistency changes with each new chef.<br/>We ordered steak and salmon wellington. Salmon seemed cold, served on a cold plate, I said to my partner I have whipped up a better wellingtons out of just a few things in the fridge. Her steak pepper sauce tasted like five spice, really not pleasant.<br/>side of portabello mushrooms looked like something you would cook at home, very poor presentation, all the vege sides were disappointing even the chips. I would even go as far as to say you'd get a better fresher, tastier, more imaginative meal a few doors down at la roche, probably for half the price. Phamish is similarly priced and has vastly better food and much more professional/attentive service. We wanted desert but went somewhere else a few doors down for desert because we were just unhappy with our meals. highlight of the meal was turkish bread which they toasted themselves.<br/>We wouldn't go back even for half the price.<br/>Veludo: you need gordan ramsay !
