Review Dear Liza - St Kilda

Recently had an event at Dear Liza and would highly recommend. The owner, Rochelle, walked me through several options and potential inclusions for the space. The flower wall they provided made such a beautiful backdrop for photos and the large outdoor courtyard was decorated beautifully. The outdoor heating kept my guests comfortable, it was really nice to have such a versatile space. Food was delicious and very affordable. My friends are still talking about how great it was. Everyone had a fantastic time! Staff were lovely and fun, their careful consideration and attention to detail was very much appreciated. Great to know you’re supporting small business, and an excellent one at that! I’ll definitely be back

I would give this place 10 + stars if I could! I had my 30th birthday here and Rochelle was super friendly and helpful from the get go! She was always prompt with her responses and made sure everything was perfect for a special night! The staff are super nice and accommodating. The space is amazing and easily catered for 80+ people with both inside and outside space along with an awesome DJ and dance floor space! The food was amazing and very affordable! All my guests have not stopped raving about the venue and the food! Could not recommend this place enough and I hope to be able to have another event here in future :) Thank you again to Rochelle and the staff at Dear Liza! I had the best night!

The most beautiful coffee with a rotating selection of well selected single origins. "Respect Is The Rule" sign greets you as you first walk in and you can tell staff are supported to be respected at work in practice. Should be a standard in customer service of any sort! Staff are the most lovely, genuine team who make each time you walk into the cafe a welcoming, friendly experience that puts a spring in your step for the day ahead. Functions look both fun and fantastic. Bottomless boozy brunch deals on days off and for days spent working, they offer a delicious variety of $12 brekky combo deals with coffee, that are the best value for money this side of the city. Couldn't ask for a better local.

I attended a 30th Birthday last night, and the atmosphere was amazing. Food was delicious and I must say the staff were epic! They were fun, helpful and obliging. Nothing was too much trouble, and they really helped make the Birthday girls day special! Highly recommend 😊

You can call this one a hidden gem because of its location but ask the locals and they will have this huge grin on their face before they tell you how good it is. Their usual menu boasts of some amazing savory waffles made from potatoes, OmG! Damn yum. Some spuds and casseroles and burgers are noteworthy. Then they have their everyday specials which are worth indulging. Value for money, great coffee and very warm and happy staff makes the whole experience of enjoying a nice meal, complete. Highly recommended!!

We've been a few times having brunch at Dear Liza and the overall experience has been incredible always. Really good coffee, tasty food and the staff there is just amazing. Thanks guys, we will be back soon. Just as a quick note, during the weekdays after the lockdown the menu/quantity is smaller than weekends, so I'd recommend to ask for the weekend's menu if you're really hungry since it's quite confusing if you expect the usual quantity of food. That's the only reason to rate it with 4 stars 🙂

We just had our engagement party at Dear Liza on a Saturday night and had an absolute ball, as did our guests who kept saying how beautiful the venue was! The space was perfect for our group of around 60 people. We loved the indoor/outdoor areas which provided plenty of seating and standing/dancing space and the greenery on the walls gave it a cool rustic, lush vibe. The LOVE letters and green flower wall were a hit for photos! Rochelle was great with the pre-planning and her and her team provided a great atmosphere and vibe on the night. Her staff were super helpful and attentive. I wish we could do it all again, highly recommend Dear Liza for any event!

Visited this place last week and it took me so long to decide what I wanted as everything on the menu looked amazing! Such a unique menu with something for everyone. I ordered the chicken schnitzel on a turkish roll which was beautiful! The staff we're friendly and professional, nothing but compliments for this place!

Amazing food, in a great setting with an awesome atmosphere. A hidden little gem for those in the know. Fantastic coffee and selection of beer, wine and spirits. Amazingly put together menu with its unique Dear Liza touch. These buckets don’t have holes in, just amazing food!!! Keep up the great work guys. See you when I’m next in town.

Dear Liza is just perfect. Perfect to meet people. Perfect to eat with people. Perfect to relax by yourself and enjoy any or all of Dear Liza's perfect treats. The menu is easy to read with a great range of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages! Whether it's a cuppa and cake with your mum or some ribs and beers with the boys or even a quick salad at lunch with the girls! Dear Liza has something yummy and suitable for everyone! My biggest applause is for the way everything tastes!! Melbourne is such a great place for all your culinary desires it's very hard to choose "your spot". Dear Liza is "my spot" because I CAN taste the LOVE and SOUL that goes into everything that's put in front of me!! The staff are vibrant, friendly and professional and the atmosphere is positive and light! Because of it's tucked away position Dear Liza gives you privacy from the very accessible location which in turn, when night falls, Dear Liza doubles as a romantic and easy going destination to treat that special someone. I enjoy eating so much here I've routined it into my morning and evening walks!! Favourites of mine from the menu would be.... - Moreton Bay Bugs - smoky pork and beef ribs - Popcorn s&p calamari -the sweet Liza dessert share plate - build your own salad - house made muffins - green iced tea! (Must have it's amazing!!) - the house made dips!!!! (I always choose too many they are all incredible! Dear Liza has all thumbs up from me and is definitely worth more than a few visits! Make it "your spot" too!!!! :)! Thanks Dear Liza

Great brunch options... A little different and very very indulgent and delicious! Great staff and amazing kitchen that's so nice and flexible with dietary requirements... And possibly the biggest marshmallows I've ever seen. This place is a wonderful St Kilda secret

Highly recommended I've eaten here twice now, first time for breakfast, had a simple poached eggs on toast with a side of mushrooms, the eggs are cooked perfectly and the mushroom were amazing, whatever the seasoning they were cooked with was very good. I just had dinner here, had the smoky pork ribs with a side of buttered mixed veggies and beer battered onion rings, all of it was delicious, the ribs were moist and tender and the sauce on the ribs complimented the meat perfectly, the onion were some of the best I've ever had, cooked well and the batter... So good! The service was very good also, and the cafe is well layed out.

I don't usually write reviews but I loved this place! Chilled atmosphere, friendly staff, good music, amazing food and not bank-breaking in the slightest. I got a 1/2lb lamb burger from the specials board and it was really good (better than dedicated burger joints) but was very nearly tempted by pretty much everything else on the menu! (The seafood looked awesome) The location is really unique too - a diamond in the rough - it sits on St Kilda Road, bang in in-between St Kilda and Chapel Streets main strips - ideal for anyone who lives in the area and doesn't fancy getting amongst the hustle and bustle for a meal out. 5 stars, for sure!

Love this cafe! The staff are amazing, the food is always wonderful and the atmosphere is nice and chilled with great music. The coffee is my favourite in Melbourne to date... which is a massive call! Highly recommended.

If I could give no stars I would, 1 star is too much for this establishment. 40 mins wait for 3 scrambled eggs on toast in a venue that had around 15-20pax sitting. After asking where the food was, and being told "it was being plated up" and still waiting another 10 mins for it, and then told "it's coming", we thought they must be catching the chickens for the eggs. We then made the decision to try and cancel our order as it felt like it was just forgotten, and we decided to walk out. Shocking service, from both kitchen and wait staff. We would never recommend anyone to try here again

Beautiful friendly people and delicious food. We came on a little family get away to the big smoke and it's nice to feel welcome. Sometimes coming from a little country town it can be daunting at city cafes, definitely not here though. We would definitely recommend it

We love Dear Liza's great food and the staff are amazing! Our Pomeranian Theo loves going as the girls won him over with bacon and even my Coeliac family love it as the Gluten free choices are great and no issues
Sarah Cole
We had our engagement party here last Saturday and had the best night! Lots of people raved to us about how great the venue was and the staff on the night and in the lead up were fantastic. The venue itself looks really beautiful at night with all the lights and the food was delicious. Thanks for a great party!

Love everything about this place! Top food clearly made with love and passion, chilled atmosphere with funky music. Outdoor courtyard particularly great for groups with heating, cushions, blankets and lighting etc. Thanks for a great experience every time guys

Have visited this funky little place several times on visits to St Kilda. Food has always been fun, flawless, beautifully presented, and delicious. Highly attentive staff, gorgeously decorated and intimate space. Fabulous cocktails! Looking forward to the next visit here.

Amazing food ! We have been living basically next door for a year and finally came down for lunch! Wow ! After other questionable experiences in the area, we were hesitant to try new places, but dear Liza has pulled through with there ridiculously good food and service ! We will be back with out a doubt !

We had a beautiful breakfast and it was delicious. What a lovely place to find

Best burger and fries with chilli aioli. Winter salads with salmon too. Staff are amazing and the atmosphere is great.

All style and not much substance. Worst BLT in Melbourne. Who puts cheese in a BLT. It’s Bacon Lettuce and Tomato!! Where is the C in BLT!!!

Please! Keep it simple FFS!
The Fussy Stomach
Passing this place for years. A bit cumbersome to park so I guess most give a miss. It is a solid 4-4.5 place based on my only one visit for breakfast. I gave 5* to raise the value of their rating as they deserve it. Baked eggs were great and full of flavor, right amount of cheese and timed well for the eggs. The bred was just a perfect toast. Crunchy at the cut, yet still soft inside. - just the way I like it. Kids and co was also happy with the choice of food. The staff was helpful and polite. I don’t get the 1* reviews before me as I seen no sign any of the stuff that they critiqued. Also I added 2 photos of their personalized menu meals which I was taken by. Amazing offers and they should get more publicity for it. Keep up the good work guys.
Good Food Good Mood
I’ve been to Dear Liza three times this week for meetings and I have to say they make a delicious chai latte. A colleague had the brownie and thoroughly recommended it
Olive Sundays
Dear Liza is a café hidden on the corner of St Kilda and Alma roads. They do a mean chicken and waffles and a cloud egg omelette to boot. Dear Liza - cloud omelette. The soufflé omelette looked like nothing I had seen before. It was plate of eggy meringue puffs of cloud. It was super light when you eat it and it had a cheesy herb flavour. It came with a tomato and chargrilled corn bruchetta on the side which added a nice freshness to the dish.

What i like about this place is that it opens early. The waitress was very polite and the food was great. I ordered savory mushroom i loved it, although i felt like it needed more mushrooms because it was served mostly with spinach. Poached eggs where perfect. My friend had the chicken with waffles, she let me have one of her chicken tenders and there were really nice and juicy. I might order this the next time i return. Lastly, the ambience was very nice esp i think because it was early still very calm and a great way to start the day.
Crabapples For Lunch
This place serves a combination of waffles, some brunch selections, burgers and salads. We came here on a 40% off booking this afternoon. It was past lunch time so there were only a couple of other tables even though this was a Saturday afternoon. The ambience here is very cosy - it was quite dim although it was sunny outside, and the layout of tables made some nice nooks out of the space. Staff weren't particularly friendly though - they saw us as we were walking in but didn't really bother to attend to us and we had to go up to them to tell them about our booking. Service got better later on.

I ordered the fried chicken burger and my wife got the mushroom waffle with a side of chorizo. I read from other reviews that the fried chicken here was really good and wow, it didn't disappoint. Extremely juicy chicken breast patty that it took me a while to work out that it wasn't thigh. It's so difficult to find good chicken patties here in Melbourne - most places use breast meat but it's almost always dry. This was probably the best chicken burger I've had in Melbourne. The bun was toasted well, soft and not dry. Cheese was melted once it was on the burger for a while, and was the thick, American slice of cheese. Chips were crispy on the outside and not dry on the inside. The little fried Mac and cheese ball on top of the burger was also a nice little treat.

The mushroom waffle was also good. We had the potato waffle and it had a good balance of flavours. The poached eggs were quite small though. Everything else including the mushrooms, wilted spinach and feta were nice, but not unusual for a brunch place standard. My wife thought that without the additional chorizo, however, that the dish would be quite plain, and I agree. The chorizo was a good, generous amount though.

For dessert we had the banoffle waffle. It was pretty good but not exceptional, unfortunately. It wasn't difficult to take the banana out of its peel but we thought it was a bit weird to serve the banana with the peel still on, especially since the peel was pretty black from being ripe. The waffle itself was decent, but the recent one we tried at L'burger really wowed us, so in comparison this was just ok. It was also quite a lot cheaper than this one which costs $18. I would pay full price for the burger, and possibly the savoury waffle if you consider it a brunch meal, but I wouldn't pay $18 for dessert.

Overall, I'd still give this place a 5 stars because of the amazing chicken burger.
Dashy The Foody
We went to Dear Liza for lunch on Friday. The atmosphere is lovely and the waitress was nice. It wasn’t too busy at the time. It took ages for them to bring in our food. None of us ordered any complicated dishes and most of us had salads. I had the superfood salad and it was quite good. It meant to have eggs per the menu but dissapointingly no one had eggs in their superfood salad.

Located on the busy intersection of St Kilda Road x Alma, Dear Liza is a little oasis. Sunken slightly below street level it has a cute interior with yellow accents, lots of seating and a shaded area for tables out the front. You can actually forget you're on such a main road.
The menu centers around burgers & freshly made waffles but has a selection of other brekkie and lunch options too.
On this occasion we just stopped in for coffee (it was good) and a vegan cookie (also good!), but we would like to come back and try the food.

My wife and I had an awesome brunch here recently while on holiday for our first wedding anniversary. Being a black man from the southern United States, I have high standards for chicken and waffles! But Dear Liza's "Deep South" was actually better than the chicken and waffles at Roscoe's in LA - the so-called birthplace of the dish! The staff were all friendly and the place has a cool, relaxed vibe. Excellent value for money - Wish we lived closer!

My partner and I came to Dear Liza for lunch today. The decor is lovely and staff friendly. Unfortunately some things were not great. Firstly hygiene... the waitress patted a dog and handled a dog water bowl then proceeded to touch everything in the cafe including clean glasses without washing hands. She also packed away a dirty table and in a effort to undertake the task in one trip nicely lodged the table water bottle with the open top in her armpit.

We ordered potato waffles... overcooked (cut my gum) and flavourless. Poached eggs were basically hard boiled. O Very disappointed to say the least.

Pretty standard breakfast food at a higher than average price.
The lunch and tea items such as the half pound burger are a touch over priced as well.
The location is an odd one really on the corner of Alma and St Kilda Rd in the lower mezzanine level of an apartment complex. Handy if you live near by but if you're coming out for brunch you'd want to be somewhere else it lacks vibrancy unfortunately
Giovanni Reynard
both of the waitress have very poor customer service. I asked for an art on the coffee and she dares to schold me back that she was not cappable. I ended up leaving the place and they forced me to pay 3 coffees while I just had 1 for the aid of them remaking it.

So we have finally come to dine at Dear Liza after passing it weekly and saying we should eat there. We had the Saturday night special, a kilo of beef and pork ribs with a few sides of slaw, Mac & Cheese and perfectly cooked corn on the cob.

The ribs were awesome and perfectly cooked, good selection of drinks although the cider on offer wasn’t great so settled for a good rose.

We also got an extra side of chips that were yummo.

All in all, a great atmosphere that both us and our dog enjoyed!! Definitely coming back 👍🏻
David Fantablonde
We each had a burger and a serving of the chicken wings. Chicken wings were average, really needed the sauces after the first one. The burgers were below average across the board. Fell completely apart, it ended up being multiple little pieces of burger meat, rather than one patty. Salty, oh for the love of god so salty.

I had an acai bowl with bananas strawberries muesli and peanut butter. The peanut butter was like kraft brand and was a scoop of it plopped on and impossible to mix into the food so it was like eating peanut butter out of the jar with a spoon. There were also ice cubes in the acai bowl i don't know why, nothing like unexpectedly getting an ice cube in your mouth n having to spit it back into the bowl :D

Great cafe, great service, great food. The menu especially the specials are all appealing and tasty. Something appalling on their menu for everyone. Defiantly worth a visit!
My lunch destination was unexpectedly closed. Out of desperation I popped in to Dear Liza, drawn in by the advertisement for ribs. I know ribs. I smoke them at home on the Weber. It's not that hard, just requires time, patience and love. BBQ ribs should be able to be held. The meat should have flavour, seasoning (a rub), and if possible, a smokey taste. They should not be so steaming hot you can't touch them, nor reliant on a one-note sugar syrup passed off as BBQ sauce, in the hope of imparting some sense of flavour. For all of 100g of pork plus three large chunks of cartlidge, that'll be $24 thanks. Clearly this establishment have complete contempt for customers.

We were blown away by our meal at Dear Liza, though it’s no surprise as everything served here is owner Rochelle’s own recipe, and prepare accordingly under her watchful eye.
The Chicken and Waffles were nothing short of spectacular, while the burgers and tacos most definitely ranks amongst the best we’ve sampled in Melbourne. Generous serves of delicious food at a very affordable price, no wonder the locals are in love with Dear Liza!

BI don't want to waste your time so I'll cut to the chase . Do not go here ever or ever think about wasting your money here it's the worse place in Stkilda bar none shocking food pre made crap from a factory that tastes like vomit please do not waste your time or money here.
I have been a couple of times it's that bad if u want grater details I'm happy to discuss
Chicken roll had a strong taste of garlic from a jar in the mayo that overpowered the roll it was yuk
You could not eat it.
On an other time I had scrambled eggs that were leaking water and I herd the chef scraping the Burnt off the toast then serving it really no good.
Both times the place has been empty it does not seem clean inside also eg the kitchen
And the windows ect.
There were quite a lot of staff standing around doing nothing how about clean the filthy cafe .
I live next door and all I wanted was a good cafe close bye this is not it looks like i will have to keep walking to south Yarra.
To be fair most of the cafes in the area are bad
I would just head to Toorak Road South Yarra were there are a great mix of places to eat
This is not a personal attack it's the facts

Great food, chilled out atmosphere and really friendly staff. Favorite spot for breakfast or handy dinner during the week. Also tunes are quality which is a handy bonus!

Awesome place to catch up with friends! The menu is great: they do sharing dishes and mains, fish and meat, healthy and less healthy food. They make something simple taste great, the garlic bread is one of the best! Service is quick and the staff are super friendly. I'm definitely going back!
Nikky
Awesome place ! Had a great dinner, the garlic bread was melbourn's best and the service was perfect. Loved the rose and there was good background music, I'll definitly come back here!

This restaurant isn't near others in St Kilda, but it's easy to get to from the 3 and 67 teams. They do fantastic burgers and finger food, and there are some solid happy hours too.
S_Melbourne
Relaxed and friendly venue with generous and filling serves. Not the healthiest of options, but that is expected for a burger and southern fried food venue. Enjoyed the corn fritters, mac and cheese balls as well as other brekky options. Coffee was good too...along with the espresso martini my friend ordered.
Love@FirstBite
Dear Liza is an adorable little spot to settle in, grab a coffee and do some work. It's got a fun little vibe with tons of greenery, nice big pillows in certain seating areas, and almost complete natural lighting. Love the Chai lattes, hot chocs, and the mango coconut smoothie was yum.

Food wise, loved how big the salads are - great value for money there. The specials are quite good, and the tacos are huge! Veggie burger wasn't amazing - they've subbed the patty for sautéed mushrooms and an overwhelming amount of sauce. But my partner enjoyed his beef burger - comes with onion rings and chips!

Staff aren't overly welcoming but then again there's nothing negative to say about them either. Haven't been for happy hour but the deals look pretty sweet!
M_James
I love the salad here. The Winter Salad with Spinach, green beans, chat potatoes, pumpkin, snow peas, walnuts, blue cheese, and Liza’s viniagrette is by far my favourite and I've ordered it countless times!
Birdman
The food gets a 5 but the service although friendly was very poor, we had dirty plates on our table for half hour after we had finished eating and had to ask 6 times for more water... no exaggeration. Had an Acai bowl with the lot which was fantastic and also tried a bit of the baked eggs which was one of the best I've had. Will be back to try some more things on the menu. Due to its location it's not very busy and you can book tables so well worth it
The Happy Food Lover
My best friend and I visited this cafe by chance and reading their menu from the outside did look appetising! The cafe is a decent size with a beautiful atmosphere and well-known sing-a-long music from the last decade!

As we sat down, we were asked for drinks and my best friend ordered the coffee frappe, while I ordered the coconut and mango smoothie - where both of them are from the specials board! The waitress who let us in, gave and explained the menus, and gave us our food is honestly one of most nicest and helpful waitresses I've ever met!

In the end, my best friend ordered the garden salad, I ordered the warm roast veggie salad from the brunch section of the menu, and a bowl (in this case a pail) of chips to share!

The meals came out in about 10-15 minutes as there was a lot of people during the lunch period. To be honest, that time is absolutely fine in my opinion! My best friend swapped avocado from her salad into my salad, while I gave her my beetroot to put into her salad! In my salad, there was spinach, goats cheese, two poached eggs, roast pumpkin, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, macadamias, and their special vinaigrette. This was the best salad I've ever tasted! I know I could have ate the beetroots with it and it may have made it better, but the avocado I got from my friend made it absolutely amazing! The eggs were poached to perfection which led to the yolk to dress every part of the salad! I love the little crunch you get from macadamias and pumpkin seeds! The vinaigrette had a bit of a tang at the end which is quite different, but it suited the whole salad well! The pumpkin was on another level of flavour and definitely well seasoned! My coconut and mango smoothie was absolutely refreshing! The balance of coconut and mango wss just right and I love the little garnish of toasted coconut on top! The chips were well seasoned and how it was presented was lovely!

Both of us ordered some desserts later on in the day! My best friend went for the homemade salted caramel ice cream, and I went for the strawberry and vanilla creme brulee! In their menu, they mention to ask the waitress for the flavour of the day! When they gave us our dessert, one of the waitresses and one of chefs apologised that the blow torch wasn't working which caused the top to not have the usual hard golden caramel coating. Due to this, they told me that the creme brulee was on the house. Despite that small issue, it was honestly the best creme brulee I've ever tasted. Although there was a pale coating of caramel, it still had the crack you like hearing! The consistency of it was absolutely smooth and had an amazing vanilla flavour through it! The best surprise was the layer of strawberries at the bottom which was absolutely sweet, soft, and made the dessert perfect!

The price of everything is the right price for their flavour and size! The service was perfect and everyone knew the menu back to front!

This is hands down the cafe I've ever been to and I definitely want to come back here again!

Very friendly staff, great food with different portion sizes to choose from. If you are looking for a variety of seafood, ribs, salad and booze, will recommend this warm friendly intimate setting. Came with my mom this time, but will be bringing the boo next time.
Notevenpicky
I was so excited to try this despite some negative reviews, honestly it was super average and not worth the price. $20 for a few prawns and bread, it would be worth if the flavours were there and the prawns was fresh, I could visably taste that if had been soaked in baking soda or something since...
MushroomCheese
Service wise, the waitress with short black curly hair may be new - not aware what's on the menu and did not recommend what was appropriate for single diner. Dined alone so obviously I couldn't order their 'famous' ribs (according to the waitress) which come in no less than 500g. That's a shame. So ordered salt and pepper calamari with lemon aioli, with onion rings and BBQ sauce. Poor choices, they were nothing worth mentioning. Both came too greasy, I can easily find better onion rings elsewhere. The lemon aioli has very weak lemon taste. May come back to try the ribs but certainly not what I had.

As a rib enthusiast I was soooo excited to try Dear Liza and knowing how much of a grub I can be eating ribs I went the delivery option. Looking at the menu it felt a but pricey for what it was so I played it safe with the crispy chicken ribs and crunchy chips and a salad. The salad was lovely, chips super crunchy even after being delivered which is unusual considering most chip deliveries lose their lustre in the travel. Ribs were dry and a little over done so the meat itself was lost and it was like chewing batter on bone. I want to try this again however considering how cheap ribs are to buy I couldn't justify spending $30 for the small portion of pork ribs or $26 for the beef, again smaller portion. However they have a wide selection of seafood on the delivery menu which I may not be able to pass up, will def try again. All in all pretty good food, but might stick to cooking my own ribs at home! Dirt cheap to buy from the market and easy to cook especially in the pressure cooker 😝

We were on our way to the Jewish museum and stopped by to have brunch. We ordered: scrambled eggs with bacon and mushrooms as extra, baked eggs and sauteed mushrooms. They were all delicious and service was excellent and attentive.
Beautiful setting.

I often come here to get lunch and the food is overall good. But it's not that excellent that I would bother to write a review. It's just that not once but couple of times I received very rude service from one of the waitresses. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I don't consider going back there again.

Awesome food. The salad was fresh and with heaps of chunky vegetables. Moreton Bay bugs, salt and pepper calamari and hot chicken ribs were all perfectly cooked and delicious.

The staff were friendly, knowledgable and efficient.

Tucked away at the corner of an apartment block one would not suspect you can get such good food here! We had the Peri-peri Prawns, Salt & Pepper Calamari & Crispy Fried Chicken Ribs bucket and it was really delicious! I enjoyed everything including my Camomile Iced Tea. Extremely attentive & quick service.

An amazing little hidden gem in St Kilda (literally, look behind the wall of aloe plants and there it is, sunken down from the road like a little urban nature retreat) with tons of open airy space and windows. I've been here many times for brunch (home baked gluten-free bread and free-range eggs - YES!) and dinner has some great options. If you like rich sloppy ribs and slaw, come here. If you like healthy fresh vegetables and the build-your-own sweet potato salad bowl, come here.

They do a knock out happy hour - as any decent place should! And the music is always awesome. Fun mix of hip hop, top-40, and classic tracks, good sing along tunes you'll recognise.

The staff are really friendly and accommodating. Always able to make a suggestion for one of their cool cocktails or one of the rotating daily dinner specials.

Heard some chatter about Dear Liza happened along a delivery option on menu mate........

Top shelf Ribs delivered to your door in St Kilda! Game has officially changed.

Heard whispers of Liza so I thought I'd give it a go ( albeit delivery)... Wow...
Before I even start on the quality of the food, we ordered Via menu log. ETA on food was 40 mins, however our meals arrived in just under 20 minutes.
Go Sunday evenings!!! Definitely the quickest meals we've ever had delivered! As for the quality... Just as good.
We ordered Sn'P calamari, bugs & cripsy chicken ribs. Everything was just perfect, ribs were crisp, calamari was tender & still nice and hot, good packaging! House made sauces outstanding.
Could use more heat in the sweet chilli, (excuse my bias-some like it hot!!). Rad stuff guys, will be making a trip to dine-in this week.

The space was bright and open, the food was really good, I had the prawn taco special which was incredible value for only $15. Service was great too. I will definitely be back.

Visited here on a Saturday night and it was relatively empty. The decor is really nice and cosy. The share platter we ordered came with mussels, calamari, chicken ribs and pork ribs, chips, plus two sauces and bread (easy for two people). We loved all the deep fried things - the chicken ribs, calamari and chips were delicious and super crisp and well seasoned. Unfortunately some of the mussels were obviously off... there were a couple that looked and smelled awful. We appreciated the earnest apology and chunk taken out of our bill, but it makes me very wary of the seafood here. I'm torn because the restaurant space is beautiful and minus seafood the food was really good. But how could the kitchen not realise some of the mussels were off?

Also, we found the arrangement of buckets sitting in holes in the middle of table for cutlery etc difficult to eat around. The staff ended up removing everything so that we could actually have the share platter we ordered on the table, and we were two diners sitting at a four-person table. The arrangement is not very space efficient and near impossible for diners who are sharing.

Dear Liza is a relatively new eatery on St Kilda Road demonstrating a unique dining experience that has left customers wanting more. Owner, Rochelle, makes a conscious effort to accommodate for a range of customers’ needs and aims to deliver a welcoming and friendly experience for anyone who walks through the door.

Interesting post work spot on the corner of Princes St and St Kilda Road. Brekkie to Tea Time bar and grill with an eclectic menu of salads and nibbles - wine by the glass or a range of soft drinks, including iced coffee the way I like it.

A great experience. From the moment we walked in the door I knew it would be a great night. The restaurant smelt lovely, looked comfortable and the staff were friendly and down to earth. Even though the menu is enticing we opted for the shared platter for two which consisted of chicken ribs, pork ribs, calamari, mussels, fries, sauces and salad. Everything on the platter was super tasty and fresh. The happy hour cocktails were delicious (vodka, gin, strawberry and basil or tequila and passion fruit). It was one of the best dining experiences I have had in a while. Highly recommend it! The mussels were exceptional and it was so refreshing to go somewhere that is not bespoke pizza or steak.

Everything I want in a bowl!. Light-filled, friendly and ambient, this stylish cafe ticked all the boxes! Great coffee and a menu full of temptation. I had a warm salad of zucchini, pearl barley, creamy feta, beetroot, mint, pine nuts, OJ vinagrette and my choice of protein (a salmon fillet) on top. The balance of flavours was immaculate. The portion, perfect. I'd definitely like to check out the evening crowd and sample some of Liza's fresh cocktails!

Food excellent- staff/service excellent- music tragic: reminded me of an electro music nightclub from 2005.

Yummy. I loved the big vege patch salad and crispy chips, ordered the grilled banana for dessert it took a long time to come out and I was quite underwhelmed when it did, it was very small and was just a bit meh, it just needed something else and a more beautiful presentation.luckily I'd ordered ice cream to go with it which was delicious and went well with the banana. I would go back for the lovely salad

Went to Dear Liza for dinner this evening with a couple of friends for the first time and it was fantastic! We could not fault this place; the menu, food, service and atmosphere were all great. We'll definitely be going back - looking forward to checking out their breakfast!

Went tonight for dinner and everything was great. Fresh flavours in the salads. The girls liked being able to choose size and quantity of the meat/protein. I enjoyed the mussels - good size meal that meant the side of fries I had was not necessary.

Loved the little touches like the chocolates at the end. Service was as 5 star. We'll be heading back for happy hour sometime soon.

Expensive lunch for one. I've been to Dear Liza a few times and really like the concept and the food, and the ribs are really good! I decided to go today (Saturday) for lunch. I couldn't order the lunch box and so had to order from the dinner menu. I paid twice what I would on a weekday and had to order way too much food for just me to get any variety of of the menu.

Chilli baked eggs!. These guys do some delicious chilli baked eggs! Great and very large selection on the menu.

DELICIOUS!!. Had the lunch box at Dear Liza with the chicken ribs - they were so yum!! Lovely spices and not greasy at all. My friend is a vegetarian and was glad we'd finally found a place with lots of yummy options for her too! Really lovely attentive service as well, and great atmosphere. Gotta come back to try their pork ribs now!

Came to try the Baked eggs and soufflé for breaky - yum! Will definitely be back to try the lunch / dinner menu. Appreciate that you made me a great coffee with my own lactose free milk- some places are too pretentious to even consider this. Welcome to the neighbourhood!

Really awesome new place. I recently went to Dear Liza for lunch with a few friends, I hadn't heard much about it before as it's only new, I tried their BYO salad and some calamari and was really happy with how well everything was cooked and prepared, the food looked and tasted really good! I will definitely be coming back!

Your seafood fixer upper. After getting home from work on Saturday night I didn't feel like leftovers. I wanted mussels. I revved up Urbanspoon and Dear Liza's menu came up. I liked it and I tugged my boyfriend with me. He had bugs and prawns (yummy!), I had mussels in chorizo sauce. Love the fact that you can create your own sides, and that the menu is paleo friendly. In the end I walked away with a tummy so full it was sore, lucky t was a downhill stroll from there. All dishes on the menu come in a size that's good to share.

-----18 Oct, 2014-----

Mussels. Comes with a rich tomatoey chorizo sauce

Great place for dinner with friends. What a great place for a meal with good friends. The cocktails were delicious (you HAVE to try the Hendricks one-- it's unbelievable) and the staff were friendly and quick to answer questions and top up the the beer buckets for us. We chose to share which worked so well with the buckets: we managed to cater for everyone' tastes and try almost everything at the same time. The ribs were ridiculously good (what do they put in that marinade?) and the seafood was perfectly cooked and served fresh and hot. The salted caramel icecream was gone in almost a minute, with demands for more. Overall, a quick catch up with friends turned into a memorable night of delicious food and great atmosphere. Rochelle and her team were so friendly and helpful, we will all be coming back soon to do it again. If you haven't been-- you must try Dear Liza.

Great food, great service... Can't wait to go back!. I highly recommend this place! Came with a large group for a friend's birthday, and the staff were terrific - well trained, attentive and friendly. We kicked off the night with the strawberry and basil cocktail... so good! The stand out dishes were the chicken and beef ribs, which were ridiculously tasty. Make sure you leave room for dessert - the housemade ice creams are delicious!

Not to be missed. Beef ribs are marinated to perfection and delicious. Next try the salt and pepper calamari and choose one of the dipping sauces. OMG the smoky BBQ sauce with the calamari. Yum.
Finished the meal with salted caramel ice-cream which was superb and great coffee.
Next time will try the extensive salad menu.
A fantastic tasting experience. Will be a regular.

Everything was just delicious although we actually planed to eat less... Anyway we will definitely come back to try the other dishes soon!

AMAZING SALADS AND ICECREAM!. We found this little spot just walking by on the way back from Albert Park, this place has a really funky vibe and boy did it smell awesome as soon as we walked in! I had a salad with all the best ingredients (Pomegranates & Quinoa) too name a couple, in all it was mega yummy ! My Boyfriend had the pork ribs and sweet potatoes side which he loved also. But I do have to mention the Salted Caramel ice cream which was an extreme stand out for me. If your looking for somewhere new and funky I'd say try this place out asap :)

Opening night Ribs. Dear Liza opening night, looks like we were their second lot of customers. Table of 6 big guys, went for the kilo of pork ribs, kilo of beef ribs and chicken ribs, a few sides then some desserts. The Beef ribs were amazing! juicy and tender fall off the bone, yum. For a first night it was well organised very friendly staff. The decor and feel of the place is really modern and comfy. The buckets in a hole in the table for bones was cute and practical. Overall a really great night, will be going back!
