This post has been a long time coming! Its the last post for my Melbourne 2018 series and was the last restaurant I went to before flying back to Sydney. Cowderoy’s Dairy cafe name really intrigued me. I imagined an old style milk bar with milkshakes and homemade burgers. Cowderory’s Dairy – St Kilda
This is like a local milk bar with a twist- I wasn’t expecting much but the menu surprised me. I had the superfood plate which is served with housemade quinoa bread, beautifully cooked seasonal veggies like pumpkin, broccoli, kale... on top of a runny poached egg. funnily enough my youngest kept picking on all the veggies and the bread!
My eldest had the eggs your way with fried eggs and spinach. He also loved his meal.
We shared a Topical Smoothie which is a delicious mix of lychee, mango, mint and peach 🍑- basically all my fav food.
The soy mocha I had was delish as well! This cafe being next to a playground is a huge plus as well.

So I'd expect to get a good burger from a specialty burger chain or my local fish and chip shop - but what I didn’t expect was to get such a delicious burger from my new local cafe, Cowderoy's Dairy. . Cowderoy's Dairy in St Kilda is like a little slice of suburbia in the (nearly) inner city. With a park situated next door and a plethora of outdoor seating, it’s the perfect place to take the kids, or stop in for a morning coffee after the morning stroll. The menu consists of all the items you’d usually expect from a good suburban cafe - scones and slices, pasties and pies, hot soup and as mentioned above, to my surprise an absolutely incredible 'Milk Bar Burger' which comprises of a house made premium wagyu beef pattie, lettuce, tomato, caramelised onion, bacon, cheddar, seeded mustard and home made BBQ sauce all on a brioche bun. The side serve of beer battered chips are also note worthy - golden and crunchy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the in, they are the epitome of what a good chip should be. Perfect for a brekki, brunch or lunch, Cowderoy's Dairy is definitely on my recommendation list. Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Venue: 3.5/5 Total: 11.5/15 Verdict: love - get around to trying it soon

Thought I went back in time. This cafe which was once a milkbar still has lollies 🍭 you can buy like you used to in the good old days.

Excellent in all ways. Staff are super friendly, make great food and coffee. Plenty of tables inside and out. Lots of families and mums groups during the mid-morning on a weekday taking full advantage of its handy location to park/playground. Quirky vintage trinkets adorn shelves inside and behind the counter. If you don't take my word for it, Sarah Jessica Parker apparently loves this place too.
Tasty as hell. Corn cakes with chorizo, fried egg and chilli chutney. Proper level of heat. Fast service. Great for ankle biters with good kid grub and playground next door.
Great coffee and very close to home = happy me! Service can be a little up and down, but consistent coffee and some enticing, but simple food offerings are sure to please.
Coffee is consistently good, however staff can be consistently so so…the girl that was on Sunday serving was so disinterested in service, I actually had to say to her good morning to get a response….she looked at me as though something was wrong…come on guys pick your game up with some good attitude, a smile costs nothing!
This cafe was a milk bar now serves coffee and meals. Located right next to park and playground is perfect for family. Also featured on channel 7 as a smoking free cafe.
I love this cafe. It feels like eating in a park. I always enjoy choosing food from the display cabinet. Service is generally good. Can be a bit sloppy sometimes (order is forgotten, mistaken), but not too bad.
Lying on the border of St Kilda West & Middle Park is a gem of a cafe - Cowderoy Dairy (14 Cowderoy St). Walking in is like entering an old school Milk Bar with tantalising delights on display and a huge menu of Breakfast & Lunch items. There is definitely a retro feel about it, with laminex tables and 1970s chairs inside. There is a nice courtyard overlooking the kid's playground certainly catering for families as well as specially made up kid's lunch boxes for sale on the counter. We went in for a mid week breakfast and ordered their famous Green smoothie full of nutritious ingredients like Kale and banana - a great start to the morning. The English Breakfast tea is served in wooly holder keeping it toasty, very cute! I ordered the Organic Porridge with banana and cinammon sugar ($7.50). Forget the kid's food, the adult food is good quality, the coffee is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. Everything seems to be made on the premises (although no-one at our table tried the cookies, which could be of the factory-line-bought-in type ) and there was plenty of variety on the brekkie menu. Lunch food was more ready to go, heat and serve foccacias, quiches, sausage rolls but again, it all seemed to be made on site and was good quality. Don't expect a restaurant menu - it's classic cafe fare - but what they do have is well done and just tastes good! Only the bacon was a let down: like many establishments, they've succumbed to the trend for grilled short-cut bacon with no fat, which I hope will die out across the whole of Melbourne soon, and we can go back to bacon with all the good bits left on. I can see why it's popular with parents of young children but it's a good spot for a casual meal on a balmy day. Prepare to wait for a table during brunch-hour.

Loved it! Funky and relax. Great food for big and little kids. Great location next to a playground. Lovely croissant( very hard to find good croissant in australia). Cool packaging for the milkshake. Go and experience it yourself!
Big fan of the BLT with salad I had today. The combination of mayo & relish was so tasty. Coffee was first rate & staff were very welcoming. Will visit again.
Remember going to the milk bar for a bag of lollies as a kid? Well this cafe will take you back on that journey. Additional to the sweets, groceries and ice creams for sale there are 2 generously filled glass cabinets with savoury delights that will surely enter your stomach with glee.
I also like to look up at what's on the blackboard too and their big breakfast is to die for. Each time I have it, I enjoy every bite. 2 poached eggs, toast, lovely bacon and the goats cheese just tops it off.
The coffee is one of the best I've had in Melbourne and the barrister was down to earth and happy to have a laugh when he brought it out to my table.
With an array of magazines and papers to indulge in and relaxed local atmosphere, I can happily sit at one of their sun filled outside tables for an hour or two on my Sunday.
Love it, Yum!. Since this place has been taken over by new owners a couple of years ago, it has been a regular on our breakfast and lunch stops. Still the great old cool dairy and the place has been cleaned up and looks really sharp. Food an coffee is a big step up and arrives quickly. Awesome allpress coffee on a la mazocco machine with serious Batistas. What more could you want.
Banana porridge was delicious and a decent serving, iced coffee made the proper way with wry tasty espresso!

This awesome little age is nestled in a great location aside a park, brilliant for those with kids, there's a playground right next to the outdoor deck.
LOVE the cowderoy! I might be bias given it is just around the corner from my place but this place never disappoints. Great coffee, tea in tea cosies, plenty of breakfast options and the lunch menu is also fantastic.

Super cute local. I live just up the road from this super cute and quirky place and think I'm lucky to have a local that does such fantastic coffee! I often have breakfast too, and whilst I never stray from the poached eggs on toast, I can say that they do them very well. I've had a bite of my friend's pancakes before and they were amazing! My experience here is always laidback with generally friendly staff. I've never waited long for food or coffee - they're always delivered very fast which is great for staving off those hunger pains. Recommended cafe.

Love this cafe it has great food and coffee. Be ready to wait a while it gets busy and even a take-away coffee can take 20mins. If you have time it's worth the wait
I grew up in the country where we had a mill bar just like this, Great place to have a cuppa while the kids play next door in the park! Good food! I think I am getting home sick for the country.
