Review Bocconcini Pasta & Pizza - St Kilda

We had the large pumpkin pizza to takeaway and it was great: welcoming staff, quick service, good price and the most important : yummmmmy! Enough to share for 2 people :)

I get pizzas from here pretty regularly, and it's absolutely delicious. Quality ingredients, good dough, and at very reasonable prices (order directly through their website though, since the prices are lower there than UberEats and elsewhere!). Service is very friendly, and they're always very prompt in preparing the orders. Easily the best pizza in the St Kilda/Elwood area.

I love this place, and get delivery really regularly. Always great food, hot and on time. **If you're ordering online, consider tipping (if you can) great restaurants like Bocconcini, especially through this second lock down. We need to keep great restaurants and businesses above the red line so they are there when restrictions lift, and cost of delivery platforms eats into their revenue. Pun acknowledged. Great desserts too :D

Ordered a pizza for delivery to our hotel on Friday evening . The pizza with requests was delivered steaming hot, within 20 mins to our door . Pizza was superb! The base was excellent. Best pizza I've had in St Kilda.

Never been disappointed with the food, authentic Italian just like the homemade. The staff is also very friendly they all make you feel home. Pizza is my favourite, definitely the best in town! The place is very trendy and modern with a cosy feel and the location great! Totally worth it to check it out!

Recommended by a friend to come here and I’m so glad we did! Proper authentic Italian food the meatballs and home made gnocchi were absolutely amazing. We will be back again most definitely friendly service and outstanding food!

Been going here for about 6 years. It has changed owners in the last year. But the food was still exceptional! The gnocci is like butter! I love the stuffed mushrooms and you cant go wrong with their pizza :)

Ordered a family pizza via uber eats, when it arrived the topping was off the pizza. After contacting the shop i was told that they advised the driver not to put on it's end but he did and they watched it leave their shop. I have ordered pizza for a number of years through Bocconcinni and to be told that it's not their problem and it's ubers is not right. I was than told I should have ordered through the restaurant and not support an American business WOW... So if this is the case why do they have double standards and use Uber Eats for their deliveries. Never again and strongly advise the same.

Utterly shocked and disappointed. My boyfriend and I ordered a spinach and ricotta ravioli and pesto gnocchi and specified multiple times he has an extreme nut allergy. After discovering there were nuts in the pesto as he was sick eating it, we called up to let them know and they grudgingly said we could pick up another ravioli. When I went in to get it, they complained that he had eaten some of the gnocchi and argued with me before I insisted on having a replacement meal, even though I produced evidence of nuts in the sauce. I can't believe we weren't offered a full refund or even an apology when there was such extreme neglect.

Love this place. I can't get enough of it. If you love gnocchi you will not be disappointed. Save room for dessert - they are so all so good, I'm trying to work my way through the menu.

Always have great food accompanied with friendly and warm service. This is my favourite and trusted Italian restaurant in Melbourne!!!

We popped in for a quick lunch on a bitterly cold Melbourne day and were pleasantly surprised by our impulsive restaurant choice. The pizza and pasta lunch specials were fantastic. And so were the coffees. Service was great and the new owner was very welcoming. We wish the young couple every success. So if you are ever in Elsternwick or heading to Ripponlea - check out Bocconcini.

It’s during the covid 19 times. I just finished work my partner and I where walking past. We asked the chef if they do delivery, she said yes just call our number with a big smile. <br/><br/>During this time restaurant are closed for eating in. I can’t wait for this shop to go back to normal because they pizza was delivered and the where mouth watering!<br/><br/>I had the salsiccia it was amazing. Full of flavour but you could still taste a little bit of sour from the radicchio but could still taste all the other ingredients.<br/><br/>My partner had Valentina it was also really good. His base was firm then mine.<br/><br/>They even wrote in the book thanks for your support. Bless there heart. <br/><br/>I highly recommend this restaurant.

Ordered via Uber eats. <br/>Gnocchi pork Raghu - DELICIOUS! Gnocchi was cooked perfectly and the Raghu had so much flavour.<br/>Penne lamb Raghu- so tasty!<br/>Garlic pizza - fresh, base was cooked perfectly.<br/>Ricotta Bomboloni - I would eat these everyday for the rest of my life if I could! So fluffy and delicious.

Great pizzas. The base was fresh, crispy and fluffy where it needed to be. The toppings were evenly spread and well balanced. Nothing creative, but everything that was done, was done well. The service was friendly also. Worth a visit if local.

Cannot be polite or friendly - this is the worst pizza and the worst service I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing - the pizza is also definitely not authentic Italian pizza - what a joke of a place!

I ordered dessert via deliveroo and ordered the tiramisu. This was the most amazing tiramisu I’ve ever had. Perfect texture and flavour. Heaven!!!

We were invited for dinner at bocconcini on a Sunday night. We were very much looking forward to an authentic Italian dinner - which is exactly what we got. The place had a classic Italian restaurant feel. Staff were friendly and talked us through both food and drink menus.<br/><br/>We started the night with a starter from their specials board - an antipasto board which included a variety of cured meats including salami, mortadella and prosciutto. The addition of pickled veggies and buffalo mozzarella kept the dish light and fresh.<br/>We then ordered the prosciutto pizza. Pizza was cheesy and the base was nice and thin. My partner ordered the veal special which came with a side of creamy mash with parsley and capers. The veal was delicious and tender, also very generous in size.<br/>When we visit next time we’ll definitely be trying something from their dolci menu - had my eye on ordering the strawberry and white chocolate pizza but was too full at the time.<br/>Prices are pretty reasonable for the size of the meals.<br/>Definitely come here if you want something traditional, homely and filling.<br/>P.s at the moment they have a Tuesday special - $13 for dine in pizza! :)

I ordered the pollo & funghi penne on Uber eats and I honestly cannot believe that any restaurant would be comfortable to serve or deliver a meal to the standard that this was; there was literally no sauce, the mushrooms looked disgusting but worst of all, the chicken did not seem properly cooked. After three mouthfuls I couldn’t continue. How this place is rated 3.9 is nothing short of baffling.

Ordered a family size pizza from uber. One of the best pizzas on uber in the area. Size was also good. Price, reasonable. Finally something that's not absolute slop in the area.

We have always ordered through menulog and have ordered more than 3 times purely based on the quality of food and it arriving before the actual wait time which is fantastic.<br/>The quality of few different dishes ordered were outstanding, including lamb ragu, pizza, polenta,risotto.<br/>Food arrives hot and good portions.<br/>Would definitely love to go eat at restaurant- highly recommend food from here if you feel like authentic Italian meal.

Has potential, I loved the base which is usually the hardest part to perfect, but the toppings were cheap and just (what seemed) just scattered everywhere without any thought of balancing the flavours, was also slightly over cooked. Probably wouldn't go back.

Only ever ordered take out from here. Offers classic, homely, Italian food, at great prices. Pizzas are quite small compared to some places, but good value for the price, and the balance of toppings was great. <br/><br/>Just a great, simple Italian restaurant!

I love this restaurant! But never seem to leave any reviews.. <br/>Always great home style food. I had the special Osso Buco with potato at the weekend and was just the perfect dish on a cold night that is was outside. <br/>My partner had the Gambero pizza and as usual loved it. <br/><br/>We are always made to feel welcome here which is just what you want for a local place !

Extremely disappointed in service and food. I have food allergies to nuts and explicitly stated this multiple times. They confirmed they understood this and states they would prepare the meals without nuts, so I felt comfortable in eating my meal. However, after a few bites I immediately knew there was nuts as I began having a reaction. <br/>We called the restaurant to resolve the issue, hoping maybe for a refund or replacement meal. The person on the phone was generally unhelpful but we organised to pick up a different meal. When picking up the new meal, the staff were extremely rude, argumentative and unwilling to offer a free replacement. After explaining their negligence, they begrudgingly agreed. No apology was offered the entire exchange. <br/>On top of this entirely negative customer service experience, the food was overpriced for the size of the portion and was extremely oily. <br/>I write this not to be vindictive, only to explain my experience. Hopefully others do not have this experience but I will not be eating here again.

My friends and I had a very rough experience with customer service, staff was not apologetic of the fact that they caused my friend to have an allergic reaction despite countless enquiries to avoid nuts in his food. Unbelievable.

We had a table of 14 at dinner last night and received such lovely service! <br/>We were recommended the lamb shoulder and it was cooked to perfection! I don't usually hang out here but needed a halfway point for a catch up. It's small and cosy so when it's full, the noise level is a bit unbearable.<br/><br/>I ordered the pumpkin ravioli. The ravioli was beautiful however they were drowning in the burnt butter sauce. There was so much liquid it was running down my utensils & buttering up my hands. It didn't do the dish any justice.<br/>My friend got the penne ragu & that looked really delicious. We both also got tiramisu. It got a big tick of approval from me. It's a slightly drier tiramisu than I normally go, but I think I polished mine in 2 minutes, which says it all. Or maybe I just hoover everything I eat.<br/><br/>Service was fantastic. I actually would be very likely to go back again, even if I wasn't in the area. I wouldn't order what I had tonight, but that's because there's plenty more options that caught my eye for next time.

Great place with quick delivery! Estimated 45 minutes for delivery - came in 20 minutes. Was good to finally find a pizza place that you don't need to re-heat the pizza when delivered. Definitely a must!

I'm struggling to find quality pizza in St Kilda. These guys are alright, I mean it's no 400 Gradi but it ain't bad. Have had delivery twice now on weekends, takes over an hour which for Saturday is kind of standard. At least they arrive hot and tasty. Good standard go to at this point. Worth a try!

This place is so accommodating and friendly! I remember when I was there for my birthday they brought out a pavolova cake as a surprise! It was the best, thank you so much! The pumpkin gnocchi is the best and I think I have an addiction to it! I will be back again soon

Don't be put off by the twenty dollar pizza, it's well worth the price. I don't mind paying an extra five bucks for pizza this good! Magnificent!

Just happened to stumble upon this place and it turned out to be a great dinner! Service was excellent and really friendly and the food was delicious! :) We had an Italian salad, patata pizza and spaghetti bolognaise and honestly couldn't fault anything. Definitely going to go back again!

With owners Tracy and Fabio's clear passion for Italian food, the menu is diverse and features many favourites that keep locals coming back for more. Traditional comfort-food classics, we enjoyed each of our starters. The Caprese was a particularly good start to our meal. The Bufala di Parma mozzarella was feather-light and delicate but yet rich and full of flavour and was further enhanced by the flavours of the fresh basil and tomato.

Dropped in for a quick dinner before our movie and was so pleased we did. This was the best pizza we've had in a long time. It had so much flavour and just the right amount of toppings. Service was great and excellently priced. Will be back again.

We use to eat there all the time. Previous owners husband front of house and wife brilliant chef made the place brilliant. Regrettably changed owners and the food quality showed it. We will not be in a hurry to return. <br/>

Great experience at Bocconcini. Got a nice little table outside and watched the world go by. Had a couple of delicious entrees in the calamari (not too battered which I liked) and lamb cutlets which were great. Pizzas also very tasty and not too oily. Will be back!

Yum yum yum ! Delicious and gourmet food! But such a shame the owners have changed! Harry was the best.. Food Tastes home made and just yummy !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely a must. Would rate it 5* but since the take over in management must admit food isn't as good as it used to be..

Loved it!. Walked in for a casual dinner. Was greeted promptly and with a smile. Service was fantastic! Had the salt and pepper calamari for entree and spinach ravioli for main. Both were delicious and generously sized with out being over the top. The wee little bread rolls warm from the oven were super yummy too!! Will definetly be back.

Awful. Saddest $23 gluten free pizza i have ever had. The menu claimed it to be large, gourmet and with tomato and fresh basil but none of this was the case. It was more like small, cardboard like and looked and tasted like a week old frozen fare. Very disappointing since this was supposed to be our new local.

Amazing Evening.... I was on holiday in Melbourne, when I was recommended to visit Bocconcini... Im glad I took the recommendation, was an amazing evening. The food was great, I had a gnocchi gorgonzola, very tasty indeed. It was topped off with great service, although I'm from the UK and was only visiting, if i get the chance to go back before I leave OZ then I will be back with friends. <br/><br/>For me, I felt nothing was rushed, my waitress had a relaxed approach, the atmosphere was great and enjoyed every single minute of it. <br/><br/>If your in the area, I would recommend it any day of the week.

Disappointing supper. Shockingly bad service - we waited for a very long time and watched people who had ordered after us getting their food before us, our food going to the wrong table and then going back into the kitchen, had to ask the waitress where our food was and she didn't know what we had ordered. Eventually got our food, which wasn't great and then when my husband went to pay the owner said "sorry for the wait - it's not good for you guys who are hungry but it's great for us to be busy". Major let down for a restaurant that we've wanted to try for ages! We won't be back!

Decent food. I enjoy the chicken bianco with lemonata potatoes and the italian meatballs (Tapas). I feel the portion size can vary but a majority of the time offer a quality meal with great authentic italian sauces (rich and full of flavour). Definitely value for money.

Pity about the inflexibility. I've ordered several times online from Bocconcini and had my meals delivered to my home in St Kilda. I've always been impressed by the quality of the meals and price.<br/><br/>I was disappointed that when I called to see if I could have my meal delivered to my work where I was working late, that they were unable to deliver there - 1 suburb away from my home (and less than 100m from the suburb boundary where they apparently can deliver to).<br/><br/>I understand that limits are imposed for the sake of time/freshness, although this level of inflexibility due to a few metres and resulting in a loss of a sale from a business perspective seems very counter-intuitive, and very disappointing for me as a usually loyal customer.

Pizza had very gristly chicken that had long bid farewell to its days of freshness. French onion soup was ok... If you could stomach getting thru the half inch of oil to the soup. Shame; it used to have good food. No longer

Loved it!!!. Went to Bocconcini the other night I had the parmigiana and couldn't believe the size of it, it was huge. At Bocconcini you always get value for money and the deserts are absolutely amazing.

Overcharged then abused. We have ordered from this place for 12 month but never ever again. We ordered 3 pastas and small garlic pizza (first time usually pizza) after looking at menu from the restaurant website. When they arrived we were charged $10.00 more than the prices on the menu. After trying the pasta we were so disappointed I called to ask why we were charged more than advertised. I was told the website must not have been updated and bad luck that is the price. I asked to speak to the manager and advised I was speaking to Harry the owner. I was also told I know nothing, go away and that I was not a "food valuer" . $22.90 for some small, cheap imported frozen prawns and undercooked pasta. Seriously !!! The other 2 were just as bad way to much cream and no other flavour. and the garlic pizza was stone cold. Others in the area so much better and no bad attitude.

Fantastic! Can't wait to go again!. We went there Sunday night, all had pasta but could only eat half because the portions were so generous. We got to enjoy them again the next day. The service was delightful, every one was pleasant and couldn't do enough for us. Mum had the pasta with meatballs and said that they were the best she has ever had. Can't wait to go back and try something different and hopefully leave room for dessert. The hot bread rolls served to us were an extra bonus!

Large Portions and Quality Meal. I got the Chicken Bianco, a large chicken breast with a mushroom sauce, side salad and some lemonata potatoes. Delivery was very quick and the portions were very generous. First time I tried them and was very impressed hope it is consistent as they offer free delivery to my area.

Diner from Melbourne. Dined at Bocconcini tonight, decided to have French onion soup for starters which was fantastic then had one of the Italian style pizzas with patata which was amazing. The service was great especially the owner Harry who was very accommodating. Would be going there again to try the desserts which looked fantastic coming out of the kitchen .

Loved It!!!. First time at Bocconcini and must say, I loved the food. The Zucchini fritters were to die for,<br/>as was the procsciutto wrapped haloumi. We only had the tapas selections and couldn't get enough of them. Next time want to try other mains and pizza as they looked very appetising and generous portions for a very reasonable price. AWESOME. My girlfriend, brother and I went here last night and had an amazing meal. Walked in about 6. Shared a small "The Lot" pizza (6 slices) and we had the barramundi, paella and the pumpkin, corn and onion rissotto (with chicken). absolutely delicious! everything came out timely and was cooked to perfection. coffee was great! even better than goat house across the road.

I ate here for the first time last weekend and I will definitely be going back. The food was delicious, well priced and authentic. We started with a few tapas dishes - very tasty and generous serves, before moving on to pizzas and pastas. The gourmet pizzas were great - they do delivery as well so I think I've found my new stand-by! The restaurant is run by a husband and wife team, service was friendly and attentive - we had a long chat with the guy about his pizzas, he really seems to love them! It's only a small place, but the atmosphere was cosy and intimate rather than cramped. All-in-all, I had a great experience and will definitely be back!

Don't even bother!! 1.5 hours after ordering delivery and being told 'it's just ten mins away' I went down to the restaurant to see what the hold up was... Order was 'lost'- the owner even suggested I would be better off going across the road to get a new order; and I'm glad he did! Poor service for what I can only imagine is poor food at Bocconcini (based on the revolting meals I saw whilst waiting for this debacle to unfold!). Sad to see people in the hospitality industry who have no idea what 'hospitality' really means!

I had dinner here last week with friends, we didn't book or plan it just walked in. From the second you walk in you are welcomed by a lovely hostess, the smell of the restaurant makes ur mouth water. You know it's good food straight up that's for sure!! The owner came and said hello and ofcourse I made changes to what I wanted and this was no issue at all. So lovely!!! Finding somewhere nice to eat that also has nice people is so hard to find. Not anymore! I will be back! Many many times!! :-)

Come hungry!. Incredibly generous servings of some seriously tasty fare. Pizza was delicious with just the right amount of toppings, and the tapas were large and mouthwatering. The baked eggplant in particular was a standout. Great value, great food.

Be prepared to be amazed!. Went here for the first time last Saturday night - bookings are essential - they were turning people away! The 4 of us were all very impressed with our meals: lamb shanks, duck risotto, salmon & scallops/polenta mash. The servings are huge but the flavours were amazing. $2.90 corkage per person's a bit steep, especially when they don't offer to pour the first glass but apart from that I was very impressed. Am looking forward to trying more from their menu which has so many options & from what we could see around us it all looks delicious.

Dining in is fabulous, you're really looked after, and their delivery service is just as good! <br/>The rolled eggplant on the tapas menu is divine, as is the salmon gourmet pizza. Our standard delivery order though is "The Lot, anchovies on half, and Cheese Garlic Pizza". Delish!

Loves it!. Food was amazing I had the penne pollo and the serving size was huge and great value for money. The rest of our group also had pasta and there was not a bad word to be said about it. The service was fantastic even though it was a busy Saturday night. However, one small gripe was that the tables are very close together which made it a little uncomfortable but understandable as it is quite a small space. Would definitely recommend.

Ordered take away 2 pizza's and desert beautiful food fast friendly service. Recommended.

Great place. Yet another reason why the local pub is dying off. This kind of restaurant has better food, cheaper prices, full service and a great atmosphere.<br/><br/>I had the whole snapper, and it was perfect.

Seafood paella. Love em! More of a risotto but love it!! Tapas selection are good. Baked eggplant rolls with goats cheese is simple and nice

Bocconcini...not so fresh!. The name and website grabbed our attention instantly.<br/>A phone call, and 15mins later we had our pizza!<br/>Our excitement was quickly diminished at the first bite, as we discovered the pizza tasted like rubber!<br/>The so called cheese pizza, was overcooked to the point where it had no cheese or flavour left.<br/>Although we were mostly disappointed by the house special, that lacked any speciality. And the desert pizza that looked absolutely delicious.... lets just say looks can be deceiving.

Great food and nice staff. The owner harry very attentive. Spaghetti and meatballs, garden salad and a glass of red. Perfect meal.

Great food had the eye fillet tonight was perfectly cooked simple tasty and amazing value for $29. If you like and old fashioned steak and chips done with a bit of class pop into Bocconcini. Pizzas are fantastic and you have to try the strawberry pizza for dessert always a pleaser.

I love this place, honest, generous and tasty. The penne matriciana is my favourite.

Good service, good food, good price. We went to Bocconcini last night with a group of 8. The service was exellent, the staff attentive and responded to questions well. <br/>We shared 5 different starters: Zuchini Fritters, Italien Meatball, S/P Calamari, Eggplants with Cheese and Chorizo sausages. All tasted yummy and it was enough for 8 people. <br/>The mains: a mixtures of lamb, risotto, gnocci, pasta and pizza. All agreed that the food was great but far too much. But the staff is helpful with takeway containers.<br/>We would go back to this place. Note, the place can get full so better book a table before hand.

Bocconcini Bliss. I had been told about Bocconcini by friends, hearing that it was apparently very tasty and authentic Italian. I told my boyfriend about it and we decided to go. We drove up and down Glen Huntley Road searching for the restaurant, eventually finding it all tucked away between two of the millions of sushi restaurants in Elsternwick. It is very small! <br/><br/>As we arrived we were greeted by a friendly young guy, he asked us if we wanted to take a seat or if we wanted to get take away. We decided on take away as there were far too many people crammed into the tiny little restaurant. He was happy to help out with what we wanted. We ordered the Zucchini Fritters, Spanish Style Garlic Prawns and Penne Polo. <br/><br/>Within about ten minutes our food was ready. As soon as we got home we plated up our meals and demolished the lot. The Penne Polo was delicious, delicate flavours with pieces of perfectly cooked chicken in a light creamy sauce. The Garlic Prawns were tasty, a fairly small dish with only 5 prawns, but very nice nonetheless. The Zucchini Fritters were no doubt the most incredible things I have tasted in a long time. The texture was smooth and creamy on the inside with a crunchy outer. The zucchini and cheese and potato were combined wonderfully with herbs and spices that complimented every part. The aioli dipping sauce was lovely, a perfect finishing touch. <br/><br/>Bocconcini left my boyfriend and I very satisfied and curious to try other dishes. The serving sizes were very generous (except for the Spanish Garlic Prawns) and reasonably priced considering the standard of the food. If you get the chance, definitely pop in and try the Zucchini Fritters!

Terrible service, if your not a regular or part of a big group forget it. Food was very average and overpriced. Never again and I'll be informing my friends and family not to come here.

The food is excellent and the service is very good. It is noisy though so be prepared for the noise and enjoy the experience. Perhaps go with people you have very little to say too, cos the food is great.

I was so impressed with the quality of this food, I ordered delivery and the food was awesome, I'm looking forward to sitting down and eating in there!! Highly recommend

Not Impressed. I regularly order take away from Bocconcini and I do love their food- but unfortunately it is their service that has let me down tonight. While picking up an order I was ignored and moved around their tiny premises in order to suit other patrons who got there after me and then once given my take away order (which was incorrect) the manager rudely told me that was it and that I ordered wrong - and walked off dismissively without giving me a slight chance of replying. The food is indeed fantastic but unfortunately their service did not match tonight.

2nd time takeaway from here tonight, was fantastic! The pastas are really delicious! We had the Penne with chorizo sausage, the Goats cheese ravioli, and the Churros for desert-we were very happy with all of it-will def be ordering from here again-was fresh,generous and super tasty-and good value!! Highly recommend.

Loved it!. Beautiful, great quality food and terrific service. Would definitely recommend the chicken parmigiana with fresh beans and rosemary garlic potatoes! Would definitely return if it was closer to home. Bon Appetit!

For those who love "comfort food". If you're looking for tasty Italian food with big portions, you can't overlook this place. Even with the emphasis on big the little things impress even more, with the tapas and entrees exceeding expectations. The atmosphere belies its size, better enjoyed in parties of 4 or more despite the limited seating area. They take care of you here. Bring a bottle or two of wine along and make loud conversation! A Glen Huntly Road staple. 8/10
